The second round of Niitvälja Karikas brought a new course record!

estonian tour players club

Competition on day two of the XXXI Niitvälja Karikas by Infortar offered excitement until the very last holes and the best result of the day – the new course record of the Niitvälja Golf Park Course – scored by Kevin Christopher Jegers (-6 or 66 strokes)! Jegers started his play with a bogey on the 1st hole, but his performance improved with every subsequent hole and in the end, he scored five birdies and an eagle on the 15th.

Jegers faced strong competition from pro Blaire Hunter McKeithen (US), who also achieved a very good result (-5 or 67 strokes) and advanced into the second place (-4 or 140 strokes in total). Pro Andrew Scott Richardson (UK), who finished first in the men’s class on the opening day, played one stroke under par today and dropped into third place. In addition to the top three mentioned above, four more players played under par in the men’s class today, which again shows the strong level of the Niitvälja Karikas competition. As the results in the men’s class are very even, tomorrow promises to be an extremely exciting day, as the winner will emerge after the last holes have been played on the final day. In the men’s class, 36 players made it to the final day tomorrow and the last one who made the cut scored 166 strokes or +22.

In the women’s class , the best player of the day was Hannah Õunap, who played the course par and advanced into the third day as the clear leader (148 strokes or +4). Elizaveta Sofia Reemet (Estonian Golf & Country Club) also played a better round than yesterday (+4) and finished the day in second place with +11 or 155 strokes. Karola Soe (Estonian Tour Players Club), who is in third place, also played better than yesterday and her result for the two days is +13 or 157 strokes. In the women’s class, nine players made it to the final day tomorrow and the last one who made the cut scored +36 strokes.

There were some exciting changes among the top three of the men’s senior class today. Enn Pääro (Niitvälja Golf), who was in the first place after the opening day, scored +10 today and dropped four places. Erkki Suomalainen (St. Laurence Golf Club), who managed to score +2 today – the best score of the day in the men’s senior class – rose by the same number of places and settled in first place with 154 strokes.  Toomas Tamme (Tartu Golf Club) is still in second place after scoring +7 today (+13 or 157 strokes in total. Jan Larsson (Estonian Golf & Country Club) and David Pursley (Ozo Golf Club), who moved up from seventh place, are now joint third, just one stroke behind Tamme. The two-day score of the men is +14 or 158 strokes.

It’s also worth mentioning that Gunnar Kobin (Estonian Golf & Country Club), the defending champion in the men’s senior class, played well today and moved up five places to sixth with a score of +6. Tomorrow will show whether the defending champion will be on top of his game tomorrow and how the top three will do in the final round.  In the men’s senior class, 25 players made it to the final day tomorrow and the last one who made the cut scored 176 strokes or +32.

The second day did not bring any big changes in the women’s senior class . Triinu Tombak (Niitvälja Golf) is the leader with +28 or 172 strokes after the second day. Kristel Ulla (Niitvälja Golf), who was the best player in the women’s senior class today, moved into the second place with +32 or 176 strokes. Margit Sunni (Niitvälja Golf) dropped from second to third after today with +37 or 181 strokes. The players in the women’s senior class are also neck and neck, so we may see some surprises tomorrow. In the women’s senior class, nine players made it to the final day tomorrow and the last one who made the cut scored +59 strokes.

Three-fifths of the players from each class will be able to take part in the final competition tomorrow based on the results of the first two days. The consecutive starts from tees one and ten will start at 8 am tomorrow and the day will peak with an award ceremony after the last players have finished the competition. Keep an eye on the results here and come to the golf course to support your favourites! The final day is guaranteed to be interesting!

Niitvälja Karikas by Infortar, the oldest golf tournament in the Baltic States, is held as a 54-hole stroke play competition from 5 to 7 July 2023 on Niitvälja Golf Park Course – the home of Estonian golf. Niitvälja Karikas by Infortar is included in the R&A World Amateur Golf Ranking and the players of the men’s, women’s and senior men’s classes can earn WAGR points.

The main sponsor of the competition is AS Infortar. Saku quenches the thirst of the competitors, snacks are served by Selver, and sweets are provided by Orkla Eesti.

We thank all the shareholders and members who have supported our club over the years – thanks to you, we have come so far that we can move forward with a straight back to meet our next long-term goals. We will proceed we have done since the beginning of the club – calmly, without haste, with common sense and modesty.

estonian tour players club

Our club has important traditions, history, nature, people, golf values, and all this is expressed by the courses we build in their beautiful complexity, harmony with nature and ingenious simplicity.

It is a pleasure to share it with as many people as possible here in Jõelähtme!

Hanno Kross CEO

650 members

We are very happy when new members join our club and pass on the values that the club holds dear in its attitude towards people – the club is only as strong as its members after all.

Of course, you can play golf without having to be a member of a club anywhere – the courses are all open, you can even acquire the right to play and make you way round the course 100 times a year if you wish. However, club membership provides a good foundation to rely on if you always want to play with us, meet new people or just have a good time. And let’s not forget Estonian Golf & Country Club’s advantages and benefits and club competitions throughout the season.

Estonian Golf & Country Club can accommodate up to 650 adult members, the limit does not apply to children and young people. You can still become a member without owning a share, but as for new members and on the waiting list, priority is given to shareholders of AS EGCC.

In 2024, the deadline for paying the club membership fee is March 15. After the deadline, we will release the places that have not paid the membership fee to golf players on the waiting list.

400 shareholders

In addition to membership, it is possible to acquire a share in AS EGCC, which owns and manages Jõelähtme golf courses. We have more than 400 different shareholders, who own more than 50% of the company. Thanks to the contribution of the shareholders in 2003-2007, EGCC construction was completed – all the funds received for the construction were largely obtained through share issues, in which ordinary golfers and club members invested, most of whom own one or two shares of AS EGCC.

Today we don’t have any shares for sale, but you can buy shares on the market if you want – so many people who helped bring the club to life in 2005 have reduced the number of rounds due to age and agree to sell to active Estonian players.

Club members and shareholder have plenty to be proud of. In 2005 we joined the European Tour Destinations to get a direct connection to the best know-how in the world of golf.

International tournaments

We have set ourselves the goal of organizing some major international competitions at Estonian Golf & Country Club every year in order to bring both players as well as competition organizers and judges to Estonia. This, in turn has given many in Estonia the opportunity to gain top-class experience here by learning from the best in the world.

Good examples are the World Cup European Qualifier competitions organized here in 2009 and 2011, which were played by many world level as well as Ryder Cup players . In addition to several European Championships, from young people to seniors and in between, there are also individual European Championships for women and men in 2014 and 2016.

Clearly, our Jõelähtme golf course has scaled an incredibly large number of peaks in a relatively short time. T he Sea Course record of 63 strokes belongs to Viktor Hovland from Norway, a young talent currently in the world’s top ten who earned silver at the European Championships in 2016.

Thomas Edur’s ballet to the music of Tauno Aints  World premiere on May 11, 2012 at the Estonian National Opera

“Modigliani – the Cursed Artist” is Thomas Edur’s debut as a stage director at the Estonian National Opera. The ballet tells an exciting story of the stormy life of Amedeo Modigliani (1884–1920), one of the most famous bohemian artists of the 20th century. His art forms a bridge between the generation of Cubists and the Art Deco painters of the 1920s. Legends are told about Modigliani’s life – his eccentric nature, his bragging, emotional twists, passionate affairs with writers Anna Akhmatova and Beatrice Hastings, and artist Jeanne Hébuterne, a dream to mount Parnassus and his rivalry with Picasso, health problems and the onset of tuberculosis that he tried to conceal by consuming alcohol and drugs excessively – it all provides colourful material for the birth of an astonishing stage-work.

“What I am seeking is not the real and not the unreal but rather the unconscious, the mystery of the instinctive in the human race.” Amedeo Modigliani

Tauno Aints graduated from Viljandi Culture College in 1998 and from Estonian Music Academy where he studied composition with Lepo Sumera and Helena Tulve. He has worked as a concertmaster at the male choir Sakala in Viljandi and the Drama School of Estonian Academy of Music and teacher of theoretical subjects at the choir studio Ellerhein. Since 2001, Aints is a teacher of music theory and music history in Tallinn Music High School. In 2002–2007, Aints was active as a pop musician in the ensemble “Genialistid”. His music has been performed by Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, Tallinn Chamber Orchestra, Estonian Dream Big Band, Ensemble U:, etc.

  • The Best Golf Clubs in…

In Russia, the western concept of building architecturally beautiful golf courses filled with modern and luxurious amenities has found fertile ground. What was considered a frivolous pastime during the time of the Soviets has become the latest trend for the stylish set. These days, there are countless options around Moscow to practice golf, polo, ski, yachting, and other sports alongside 5-star hotels, luxurious country houses, and magnificent villas.

The game of golf is a sport that requires passion and expertise. It is also part of a culture that considers this pastime a synonym of social prestige and exclusivity. In recent years, the new Russian elite has turned to golf as a vehicle of integration in the era of globalization. Golf courses are also meeting and socializing spaces where Muscovite tycoons can relax and also seal business deals.

Golf Courses in Russia

The Moscow Country Club, Pestovo Golf & Yacht Club, Tseleevo Golf & Polo Club, and Zavidovo Golf Club, PGA National Russia are some of the most exclusive and elegant golf courses in Russia. Some of them have made it to the list of Top 15 golf clubs in the world, a source of great prestige for the country.

The first 18-hole golf course built in Russia, Moscow Country Club, hosts the exclusive PGA European Tour. Located just eight miles from the city center, this luxurious facility was created by architect Robert Trent Jones Jr . The design takes advantage of a typical Russian birch and spruce forest to provide a natural environment of extraordinary beauty.

The Pestovo Golf & Yacht Club is 18 miles from the heart of Moscow, close to historical monuments from the 17th and 18th centuries. Designed by famed architects Paul and Dave Thomas , this 18-hole course is part of a complex that includes a yacht club, an equestrian center, and a health and wellness facility. Pestovo Golf & Yacht Club is Russia’s version of a classic country club with multiple attractions.

This park is among the best in Eastern Europe and was awarded the 2014 World Golf Award as the best golf course in Russia. Located 25 miles from Moscow, it is part of a vast complex featuring an 18-hole golf course, designed by Jack Nicklaus , a polo club and a mountain ski club with four tracks. The design combines classic Scottish, Alpine, and English features in a dreamy landscape.

Less than 60 miles from Moscow, this golf course with a definite Scottish design is the only one in Russia recognized as a PGA (Professional Golfers’ Association) from Britain and Ireland. Located in an ecologically pristine area on the banks of the Volga River, the Zavidovo Golf Club embodies the spirit and appearance of the legendary Scottish golf courses. Its many springs and streams, hills, forests, swamps and lakes justify its reputation as a very demanding circuit. Last year, it entered the exclusive club of the 15 best golf courses in the world.   ■

The Comprehensive Guide to Moscow Nightlife

  • Posted on April 14, 2018 July 26, 2018

  • 8 minute read

estonian tour players club

Moscow’s nightlife scene is thriving, and arguably one of the best the world has to offer – top-notch Russian women, coupled with a never-ending list of venues, Moscow has a little bit of something for everyone’s taste. Moscow nightlife is not for the faint of heart – and if you’re coming, you better be ready to go Friday and Saturday night into the early morning.

This comprehensive guide to Moscow nightlife will run you through the nuts and bolts of all you need to know about Moscow’s nightclubs and give you a solid blueprint to operate with during your time in Moscow.

What you need to know before hitting Moscow nightclubs

Prices in moscow nightlife.

Before you head out and start gaming all the sexy Moscow girls , we have to talk money first. Bring plenty because in Moscow you can never bring a big enough bankroll. Remember, you’re the man so making a fuzz of not paying a drink here or there will not go down well.

Luckily most Moscow clubs don’t do cover fees. Some electro clubs will charge 15-20$, depending on their lineup. There’s the odd club with a minimum spend of 20-30$, which you’ll drop on drinks easily. By and large, you can scope out the venues for free, which is a big plus.

Bottle service is a great deal in Moscow. At top-tier clubs, it starts at 1,000$. That’ll go a long way with premium vodka at 250$, especially if you have three or four guys chipping in. Not to mention that it’s a massive status boost for getting girls, especially at high-end clubs.

Without bottle service, you should estimate a budget of 100-150$ per night. That is if you drink a lot and hit the top clubs with the hottest girls. Scale down for less alcohol and more basic places.

Dress code & Face control

Door policy in Moscow is called “face control” and it’s always the guy behind the two gorillas that gives the green light if you’re in or out.

In Moscow nightlife there’s only one rule when it comes to dress codes:

You can never be underdressed.

People dress A LOT sharper than, say, in the US and that goes for both sexes. For high-end clubs, you definitely want to roll with a sharp blazer and a pocket square, not to mention dress shoes in tip-top condition. Those are the minimum requirements to level the playing field vis a vis with other sharply dressed guys that have a lot more money than you do. Unless you plan to hit explicit electro or underground clubs, which have their own dress code, you are always on the money with that style.

Getting in a Moscow club isn’t as hard as it seems: dress sharp, speak English at the door and look like you’re in the mood to spend all that money that you supposedly have (even if you don’t). That will open almost any door in Moscow’s nightlife for you.

Types of Moscow Nightclubs

In Moscow there are four types of clubs with the accompanying female clientele:

High-end clubs:

These are often crossovers between restaurants and clubs with lots of tables and very little space to dance. Heavy accent on bottle service most of the time but you can work the room from the bar as well. The hottest and most expensive girls in Moscow go there. Bring deep pockets and lots of self-confidence and you have a shot at swooping them.

Regular Mid-level clubs:

They probably resemble more what you’re used to in a nightclub: big dancefloors, stages and more space to roam around. Bottle service will make you stand out more but you can also do well without. You can find all types of girls but most will be in the 6-8 range. Your targets should always be the girls drinking and ideally in pairs. It’s impossible not to swoop if your game is at least half-decent.

Basic clubs/dive bars:

Usually spots with very cheap booze and lax face control. If you’re dressed too sharp and speak no Russian, you might attract the wrong type of attention so be vigilant. If you know the local scene you can swoop 6s and 7s almost at will. Usually students and girls from the suburbs.

Electro/underground clubs:

Home of the hipsters and creatives. Parties there don’t mean meeting girls and getting drunk but doing pills and spacing out to the music. Lots of attractive hipster girls if that is your niche. That is its own scene with a different dress code as well.

What time to go out in Moscow

Moscow nightlife starts late. Don’t show up at bars and preparty spots before 11pm because you’ll feel fairly alone. Peak time is between 1am and 3am. That is also the time of Moscow nightlife’s biggest nuisance: concerts by artists you won’t know and who only distract your girls from drinking and being gamed. From 4am to 6am the regular clubs are emptying out but plenty of people, women included, still hit up one of the many afterparty clubs. Those last till well past 10am.

As far as days go: Fridays and Saturdays are peak days. Thursday is an OK day, all other days are fairly weak and you have to know the right venues.

The Ultimate Moscow Nightclub List

Short disclaimer: I didn’t add basic and electro clubs since you’re coming for the girls, not for the music. This list will give you more options than you’ll be able to handle on a weekend.

Preparty – start here at 11PM

Classic restaurant club with lots of tables and a smallish bar and dancefloor. Come here between 11pm and 12am when the concert is over and they start with the actual party. Even early in the night tons of sexy women here, who lean slightly older (25 and up).

The second floor of the Ugolek restaurant is an extra bar with dim lights and house music tunes. Very small and cozy with a slight hipster vibe but generally draws plenty of attractive women too. A bit slower vibe than Valenok.

Very cool, spread-out venue that has a modern library theme. Not always full with people but when it is, it’s brimming with top-tier women. Slow vibe here and better for grabbing contacts and moving on.

estonian tour players club

High-end: err on the side of being too early rather than too late because of face control.

Secret Room

Probably the top venue at the moment in Moscow . Very small but wildly popular club, which is crammed with tables but always packed. They do parties on Thursdays and Sundays as well. This club has a hip-hop/high-end theme, meaning most girls are gold diggers, IG models, and tattooed hip hop chicks. Very unfavorable logistics because there is almost no room no move inside the club but the party vibe makes it worth it. Strict face control.

Close to Secret Room and with a much more favorable and spacious three-part layout. This place attracts very hot women but also lots of ball busters and fakes that will leave you blue-balled. Come early because after 4am it starts getting empty fast. Electronic music.

A slightly kitsch restaurant club that plays Russian pop and is full of gold diggers, semi-pros, and men from the Caucasus republics. Thursday is the strongest night but that dynamic might be changing since Secret Room opened its doors. You can swoop here but it will be a struggle.

estonian tour players club

Mid-level: your sweet spot in terms of ease and attractiveness of girls for an average budget.

Started going downwards in 2018 due to lax face control and this might get even worse with the World Cup. In terms of layout one of the best Moscow nightclubs because it’s very big and bottle service gives you a good edge here. Still attracts lots of cute girls with loose morals but plenty of provincial girls (and guys) as well. Swooping is fairly easy here.

I haven’t been at this place in over a year, ever since it started becoming ground zero for drunken teenagers. Similar clientele to Icon but less chic, younger and drunker. Decent mainstream music that attracts plenty of tourists. Girls are easy here as well.

Sort of a Coyote Ugly (the real one in Moscow sucks) with party music and lots of drunken people licking each others’ faces. Very entertaining with the right amount of alcohol and very easy to pull in there. Don’t think about staying sober in here, you’ll hate it.

Artel Bessonitsa/Shakti Terrace

Electronic music club that is sort of a high-end place with an underground clientele and located between the teenager clubs Icon and Gipsy. Very good music but a bit all over the place with their vibe and their branding. You can swoop almost any type of girl here from high-heeled beauty to coked-up hipsters, provided they’re not too sober.

estonian tour players club

Afterparty: if by 5AM  you haven’t pulled, it’s time to move here.

Best afterparty spot in terms of trying to get girls. Pretty much no one is sober in there and savage gorilla game goes a long way. Lots of very hot and slutty-looking girls but it can be hard to tell apart who is looking for dick and who is just on drugs but not interested. If by 9-10am you haven’t pulled, it is probably better to surrender.

The hipster alternative for afterparties, where even more drugs are in play. Plenty of attractive girls there but you have to know how to work this type of club. A nicer atmosphere and better music but if you’re desperate to pull, you’ll probably go to Miks.

Weekday jokers: if you’re on the hunt for some sexy Russian girls during the week, here are two tips to make your life easier.

Chesterfield

Ladies night on Wednesdays means this place gets pretty packed with smashed teenagers and 6s and 7s. Don’t pull out the three-piece suit in here because it’s a “simpler” crowd. Definitely your best shot on Wednesdays.

If you haven’t pulled at Chesterfield, you can throw a Hail Mary and hit up Garage’s Black Music Wednesdays. Fills up really late but there are some cute Black Music groupies in here. Very small club. Thursday through Saturday they do afterparties and you have an excellent shot and swooping girls that are probably high.

Shishas Sferum

This is pretty much your only shot on Mondays and Tuesdays because they offer free or almost free drinks for women. A fairly low-class club where you should watch your drinks. As always the case in Moscow, there will be cute girls here on any day of the week but it’s nowhere near as good as on the weekend.

In a nutshell, that is all you need to know about where to meet Moscow girls in nightlife. There are tons of options, and it all depends on what best fits your style, based on the type of girls that you’re looking for.

Opera by Giacomo Puccini  in three acts with two intervals Libretto by Giuseppe Giacosa and Luigi Illica after Victorien Sardou’s play of the same name

Premiere on 13 May 2005

Puccini’s Tosca is one of the most popular operas in the world and it is not difficult to tell why. It is a passionate drama full of contrasts in which daily life might prove to be more unpredictable than the most adventurous dream. The love of the beautiful opera singer Tosca and an artist Cavaradossi is poisoned by the cruel and powerful police chief Scarpia, who entangles them in his stealthy plans. There is a struggle between love, political intrigues, confidence and thirst for power that knows no mercy. In the end, there are no winners…

As one of the greatest 20th-century melody masters, Puccini has used bold colours and memorable melodies to create imaginative and enticing portraits for his characters. The highlights of the opera include one of the most beautiful arias in the soprano repertoire Vissi d’arte and one of the most famous tenor arias E lucevan le stelle that have won the hearts of both opera lovers as well as first-timers.

The Most Famous Golfer at the Masters Is Black. Why Aren’t There More Players Like Him?

Tiger Woods, alone and seen from a distance, stands on a fairway with a mass of trees behind him.

By Peter May

Mr. May is a former sportswriter for The Times and The Boston Globe and the author of “Changing the Course: How Charlie Sifford and Stanley Mosk Integrated the PGA.”

When the Masters Tournament commenced on Thursday, featuring 89 competitors, there was exactly one Black golfer in the field: the one we all know, Tiger Woods. Beyond that, the field for the 88th Masters didn’t look all that different from the previous 87.

This is not what Charles Sifford envisioned when he and Stanley Mosk, the attorney general of California, fought to integrate the Professional Golfers’ Association of America. Sifford, who is often referred to as the Jackie Robinson of golf, became the first Black P.G.A. member in 1964 after a decades-long fight to join the organization that had, for much of its history, stated in its charter that it would admit only golfers “of the Caucasian race.”

Sifford blazed a trail for talented Black golfers such as Lee Elder, Calvin Peete, Jim Dent, Jim Thorpe and, of course, Woods. But 60 years later, their stories of success are still exceptions. The P.G.A. remains woefully inaccessible to Black golfers and has made only marginal and inadequate efforts to diversify its ranks. According to Golf Digest, fewer than 1 percent of the P.G.A.’s 29,000 members are Black. The P.G.A.’s tournaments and its professional golf shops need to take concrete steps to look more like the America they purport to represent.

In 2014 the P.G.A. identified diversity and inclusion as “foundational principles” but, in practical terms, that has meant little more than the occasional golf camp or clinic at a public course in a Black neighborhood. The P.G.A. recently partnered with the Advocates Professional Golf Association, which was founded in 2010 to diversify the game, and together they will host 18 tournaments this year. But the P.G.A. must do more to lead the way in action and by example, promoting inclusion at every level. Until private country clubs, elite prep schools and Division I golf programs actively recruit and train Black golfers, Sifford’s legacy will remain unfulfilled, and the game will continue to be dominated by white players.

For the decades that Sifford and other Black golfers fought to become P.G.A. members, they dealt with bigotry, death threats and countless humiliations while simply trying to play golf with and against the best players of the era. Because the P.G.A. had explicitly codified racial discrimination in its bylaws, Black golfers not only couldn’t compete as PGA Tour members; they also couldn’t find jobs in P.G.A.-affiliated pro shops — which, until the 1950s, had been the traditional route golfers took to join the P.G.A. The P.G.A. continually thwarted the efforts of Black golfers, abetted by star players who failed to speak up for inclusion.

The battle to integrate professional golf stalled until Mosk, enraged by Sifford’s exclusion from the P.G.A., threatened to sue the association to prevent it from holding its segregated tournaments in California. Several other state attorneys joined Mosk in the fight, and their resolve forced the P.G.A. to eliminate the Caucasians-only clause. The removal of what Mosk called “this obnoxious restriction” paved the way for Sifford to become a full-time member.

But Sifford’s breakthrough did not open the gates to Black players. Fifteen years after Robinson broke baseball’s color line, Black players represented over 10 percent of Major League Baseball rosters. Yet decades after Sifford’s breakthrough there were still only a few of Black golfers on the pro tour. The Masters waited an unforgivable 41 years from its inception before inviting a Black player to participate, when Elder broke the color barrier in 1975. Even after Sifford won two PGA Tour events, the Masters refused to invite him to its tournament. Sifford never set foot on the grounds of Augusta National Golf Club.

Little has changed. The 2022 Masters featured just three Black players , which was a record high for the tournament. There were no Black golfers last year in the United States Open, and this year’s Masters features only Woods — who has publicly credited Sifford with making his career possible, calling him “the grandpa I never had,” and named his son Charlie in Sifford’s honor. But Woods, who is 48 and oft injured, can no longer play a full schedule, which means there are only two Black golfers today who play professionally with any regularity. One is Cameron Champ, a three-time PGA Tour winner. The other, Harold Varner III, is no longer a member of the P.G.A., having joined the Saudi-backed LIV tour.

There are currently efforts to promote diversity in golf, such as the Charlie Sifford Memorial Exemption at the Genesis Invitational, which sets aside a spot in the tournament for a golfer of color every year. Why not introduce such an exemption at every P.G.A. tournament? The P.G.A. should also be funding more programs to develop young Black golfers, as well as interest in golf among Black athletes. This year, the basketball star Stephen Curry — who funded the revival of the golf program at the historically Black Howard University — will be honored at the World Golf Hall of Fame induction ceremony with the Charlie Sifford Award for advancing diversity in golf. The P.G.A. should follow Curry’s lead.

Sifford lived long enough to see significant change in the world. He saw Woods become the dominant player in golf. He saw other sports integrated in ways that once seemed unthinkable, including baseball in 1947 and, later, tennis with the rise of Arthur Ashe and Althea Gibson and the emergence of Venus and Serena Williams. In 2004, Sifford became the first Black person inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame and, in 2014, he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Barack Obama.

But when Sifford died in 2015 at age 92, he had yet to see a truly integrated P.G.A. Were he alive today, he’d still be waiting.
