Door County Wisconsin is known as one of the most romantic counties in the Midwest, and it is full of fun things to do .

If you are wondering what to do in Wisconsin on your next romantic getaway, you’ll love Door County.

You can relax on the beach, explore unique museums, or tour a lighthouse.

Depending on when you visit, you can also try cherry-picking and sample some of the amazing cherry desserts in the area at one of the local restaurants.

If outdoor adventures are more your thing, Door County has those too.

Hike at the Cave Point County Park, head to one of the 35 named islands, or see the ‘backbone of America’ at the Peninsula State Park.

Appleton To See Harry Houdini History

Appleton is known for two things, Harry Houdini and the Mile of Music Festival.

Harry Houdini loved Appleton so much that he often claimed it as his birthplace, despite being born in Hungary.

However, Houdini’s family did move to Appleton when he was a toddler, so it’s safe to say it was the home he knew best.

The History Museum at the Castle has a permanent exhibit dedicated to Harry Houdini that you can tour all year long.

Appleton is also known for it’s yearly music festival, the Mile of Music Festival.

It typically takes place in August and it is completely free.

The festival spans an entire mile and you can see more than 200 up-and-coming artists performing at one of the many venues along the mile stretch.

No matter when you visit Appleton, there are sure to be plenty of attractions in this Wisconsin town.

Bayfield is known as the gateway to the Apostle Islands, but there are plenty of things to do there as well.

The small town of Bayfield is bursting with local artisans.

You can find art galleries, art workshops, and more.

If you want to learn more about the area, head to the Bayfield Maritime Museum.

The area is also full of local wineries, farms, and charming architecture.

While you’ll definitely want to explore the Apostle Islands, Bayfield is worth a stop on it’s own too!

The Wisconsin Great River Road

The Great River Road runs through several US states, and one of those is Wisconsin.

It is a National Scenic Byway that has 33 small towns that you can explore along the way.

The byway follows the Mississippi River and all of the towns along the road are old river towns.

While you drive you’ll learn that some of the towns along the byway are even the some of the oldest towns in Wisconsin.

If you are looking for a Wisconsin or Midwest road trip with stunning views, The Great River Road is a great option.

The town of Kohler may seem familiar to you if you’ve ever walked the aisles of your local home improvement store.

That’s because it was named after the Kohler company in 1900.

The town was originally built as a model company town, which is a town that has been specifically planned around an industry.

For Kohler that industry was all things plumbing.

Kohler is still known for it’s plumbing industrial history, and you can even tour the Kohler Design Center.

You’ll see a selection of both new and old Kohler designs and learn more about the companies history.

Frank Lloyd Wright is often considered one of, if not the greatest American architect.

He was also born and raised in Wisconsin.

The best way to see them all is to take a driving tour through Wisconsin of famous Frank Lloyd Wright buildings.

Along the route there are nine stops, and you’ll travel from Kenosha County to Richland County.

You’ll see gorgeous homes, administrative and business buildings, and even a church.

Lake Geneva Is Perfect For A Beach Vacation

For those looking for a Midwestern beach vacation, Lake Geneva is just the ticket.

The people from Wisconsin, or Green Bay Packer’s fans, lovingly call themselves ‘Cheese Heads’.

They’ve earned the nickname with the state’s large amounts of cheese production.

The Cheese Days Festival in Monroe is a celebration of all things cheese.

You can sample locally made cheeses, learn authentic ways of making cheese, and of course, pick your own cheeses to take home.

Its a great festival for the whole family.

There are activities for kids and adults as well as fun contests and a parade.

The Cheese Days Festival is a quintessential Wisconsin experience and that’s what makes it one of the most fun things to do in Wisconsin.

Atwater Park And Beach For Summer Family Fun

The Atwater Park and Beach is one of the most popular beaches in Shorewood, which is just outside of Milwaukee.

The beach itself isn’t super big, but it is very pretty.

There are steps to get down to the shore and the water, so keep that in mind when planning your trip.

The beach also has a very large park and that’s what makes it so popular.

In the park you’ll find sculptures, picnic areas, and even a playground for children.

Its a great place to take the family on a warm day to enjoy Lake Michigan.

Cave Of The Mounds

The Cave of the Mounds is a National Natural Landmark in Wisconsin that is super cool.

Miles beneath the ground is a massive limestone cave system that was discovered after an attempt to turn the area into a Limestone quarry in 1939.

The owners of the land quickly discovered that there was a massive cave system that should be preserved instead of turned into a quarry.

Shortly after its discovery, in 1940, the cave was opened for visitors and since then has been a popular natural landmark in Wisconsin.

The Cave of the Mounds is a rarity in the geological world and is protected by the Natural Park Service so that generations for centuries to come can marvel at it.

It is about 25 miles west of Madison, so it is an excellent day trip if you are visiting the area.

Cedarburg For A Small Town Atmosphere

Wisconsin has plenty of large cities to explore, but it also has some very charming small towns.

One of those is Cedarburg, a small town outside of Milwaukee.

What makes the city so popular to travelers is not just the small town atmosphere.

While you can of course enjoy cute boutiques and one-of-a-kind restaurants, the town is also known for it’s many museums.

If you’ve ever been interested in what life would have been like for the first European settlers in the area, there is a living history museum you can enjoy.

There is also a museum dedicated to the town’s history, an art museum, and a wool and textile museum.

After a day spent learning all about the areas rich and diverse history, stroll the charming streets to shop for locally made foods, furniture, and more.

Tour The Alexander Noble House Museum

Alexander Noble was one of the European founders of the town of Fish Creek in Door County Wisconsin.

He served the community in many capacities, including as the town blacksmith and postmaster.

The home is a Greek Revival style farmhouse that was built in 1875.

In the 1990s the home was restored and turned into a museum.

Inside you’ll find a depiction of Door County life from around 1875 to 1900.

It is a unique way to learn about the European history of Door County and experience life over a century ago.

The Alexander Noble home is a unique attraction in Wisconsin that is perfect for history lovers.

Apostle Islands National Lakeshore

One of the coolest National Parks in the Midwest , and certainly in Wisconsin, is the Apostle Island National Lakeshore.

The islands are just outside of the town of Bayfield and are composed of 22 individual islands.

Depending on what island you are on there are different things you can do and see.

From the islands you’ll be able to see a shipwreck, explore caves along the shore in a kayak, or even see ice caves in the winter.

You can also go camping or glamping on a few of the islands, which is a very cool experience.

If you’re not interested in outdoor activities but you still want to see the islands, consider taking one of the Apostle Island cruises.

On the cruise you’ll be able to admire the shore of the islands without having to go hiking or kayaking.

Take A Lighthouses Of Wisconsin Road Trip

Because Wisconsin is along one of the Great Lakes, there are plenty of lighthouses you can admire.

On your road trip, you’ll want to make sure to hit some of the more historic or iconic lighthouses along the Lake Michigan coast.

Start at the Northern most tip of Wisconsin’s Lake Michigan shores and tour the Cana Island Lighthouse.

From there, continue South along the coast and stop at any lighthouses that pique your interest.

Some of the most famous ones are the Rawley Point Lighthouse, the North Point Lighthouse, and the Kenosha Light.

A tour of Wisconsin’s lighthouses is a fun thing to do in Wisconsin that gives you plenty of opportunity to admire the shores of Lake Michigan.

The Ice Age Trail

One of the most popular things to do in Wisconsin for outdoor adventurers is the Ice Age Trail.

The trail itself is 1,000 miles of footpath that crosses across the state and through stunning landscapes.

It is named the Ice Age Trail because it winds through an area of the state that was cut and created by a massive flow of glacial ice over 12,000 years ago.

For scientists, the area is an incredible example of how continental glaciation changed and formed the Earth.

You can pick up the trail in multiple spots across the state, so you don’t have to walk the whole thing to experience it’s beauty.

You’ll walk through mountains, fields of flowers, and dense woods and other landscapes that quickly change thanks to that ancient glacier.

Bradford Beach Is A Unique Urban Beach In Wisconsin

Bradford Beach is not your typical quiet sandy beach.

It is sandy, and it may be quiet at times, but as an urban beach, there is always something to do there.

Frank Lloyd Wrights homes go from Kenosha County to Sauk County, not Richland County. His most famous home, Taliesin, is located in Spring Green, which is in Sauk County

The driftless area which includes the Crawford county apple orchards, Vernon county organic valley, and la crosse bluffs and Mississippi River is a major geographic area. Not. Every thing is on east side of wisconsin.

Visitors can have a first-hand experience of village life in the 1880s and what it was like to work on a farm.

Kenosha is located on the banks of Lake Michigan.

It’s home to the Harrington Beach State Park, the Forest Beach Migratory Preserve , and also has, within its boundaries, about 6 miles of the Ozaukee Interurban Trail.

It’s named after the 17th-century French playwright, Jean-Baptiste Racine , and is another example of Old World influence on Wisconsin.

The town is situated on the shore of Lake Michigan, so there’s ample opportunity to sail or do other water sports. 

The town’s lighthouse is yet another highlight of a long weekend trip from Milwaukee.

There’s something for everyone in Racine: from fishing and kayaking to visiting the world-famous buildings designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. 

Racine is not all about culture, although you may be forgiven for thinking that it is. It has appeal for all the senses.

And that of taste can be satisfied by a visit to the local bakery, Kringle , home to the official Wisconsin state pastry, which is basically an oval Danish Pastry.

There are several Danish bakeries in Racine where you can eat these delicious treats, but try the ones on offer at Kringles in the town.

9. Lake Geneva

Distance from Milwaukee: 58 minutes driving, 54 miles

Lake Geneva, approximately 50 miles away from Milwaukee, is another of the east one-day trips in Wisconsin near Milwaukee that you shouldn’t miss.

It has 19th-century mansions contrasting with the Big Foot State Park, (which kids love) and in winter, there is a ski resort to enjoy.

In fact, Lake Geneva in winter is one of the best times to visit as you can see the famous ice castles!

So whatever the season, you should add this destination to your list of fun things to do near Milwaukee.

It’s particularly beautiful with fall foliage and it’s thus considered one of the top things to do in fall in Wisconsin .

If you love extreme sports, you can go zip-lining in winter and be awe-struck by the snowy landscape. In summer, go kayaking on the lake or try cross-country skiing or walking in snowshoes during winter.

Although there are many instances of such communities in the UK, there are few in the US.

Why visit Kohler? There’s a winery there that produces good wine, a golf course, and a design center where you can see designs of the bathroom fixtures and fittings produced at the Kohler factory.

This might not appeal to everyone, but it is one of the top sites to see, and worth stopping in during your day trip from Milwaukee.

Distance from Milwaukee: 2 hours 7 minutes, 116 miles

Green Bay is another of the tourist attractions near Milwaukee, WI which is 116 miles from the city.

Because I visited in winter, I think that Green Bay is one of the top winter day trips from Milwaukee, or if you have the time it was one of my favorite weekend road trips from Milwaukee.

You could plan to stay for a couple of days as it offers a chance to do water sports on Lake Michigan and if you have kids, there’s also an amusement park that they will enjoy.

There are also many opportunities for Wisconsin day trips from Green Bay.

When in Green Bay, don’t miss visiting Titletown, Wisconsin since it’s just one attraction among other things to do in Green Bay, Wisconsin .

12. Horicon

Distance from Milwaukee: 1 hour, 55.7 miles

Horicon is home to a marsh and wildlife center, but the city, which is close by. has year-round events for visitors and locals alike.

It’s an ideal place to have your base for your nature expeditions. 

Due to its exceptional beauty, the Horicon is ofter considered as one of the best places to vacation in Wisconsin .

Additionally, the area has served as a location for some of the best movies filmed in Wisconsin .

13. Horicon Wildlife Refuge and Horicon Marsh

The Horicon Wildlife Center and Horicon Marsh are 55 miles away from Milwaukee.

This beautiful wildlife refuge is one of the best scenic day trips from Milwaukee, especially for nature lovers, and families.

A longer visit to these places is one of the Milwaukee weekend getaway ideas I recommend.

Home to the largest freshwater cattail marsh in the United States, Horicon Marsh is the perfect day out if you want to spend a day in the great outdoors.

There is hiking, kayaking, geocaching, fishing, and birding, and in the winter visitors can enjoy sports like snowshoeing or cross country skiing.

Horicon ( not horizon ) is problematic to get right if you use a spell check. Its origins lie in the language of the Mohicans and it means either ‘ clear ’ or ‘ pure water .’

The Mohicans who lived in Wisconsin were descendants of those who were driven out of Schodack, which is near Albany, and moved to Stockbridge, Massachusetts.

They were later allotted a reservation in the 19th century and the Munsee tribe joined them.

These people became known as the Stockbridge band and some members would have hunted and fished in what is now the Horicon Wildlife Center and its marsh.

The wildlife refuge is full of great activities for solo travelers, couples, or the whole family. 

If you have kids, they will love learning about the Mohicans here and can even take part in some activities at the Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center.

The history of the marsh goes back to prehistoric times, and there is even a woolly mammoth for kids to climb on and touch.

Your kids will be fascinated by the exhibits and the information supplied by the knowledgeable staff at the center.

14. Kettle Moraine State Forest

Distance from Milwaukee: 45 minutes, 44 miles

The Kettle Moraine State Forest is in southeastern Wisconsin.

You can camp there from May to October, but you should make a reservation for a site.

If you can visit in September or October to make the most of the stunning fall colors in Wisconsin .

There are several campgrounds, most of which close by the end of October. The only one open throughout the year is the Ottawa Lake campground which has 100 sites.

At this site, there are cabins for people with disabilities.

Some facts about the Kettle Moraine Forest:

• There are various hiking trails in the forest of different levels of difficulty.
• The forest area has a long history, going right back to the Ice Age.
• You can explore the forest alone or join a group and have a guide.
• The Kettle Moraine scenic drive takes visitors through both sections of the forest and is highly recommended if you have time to explore.
• Horses and their riders are welcome.
• See the glacial landforms.
• You can bike along some of the trails.

Kettle Moraine State Forest appeals to all age groups, so it is a great place for one of the driving vacations from Milwaukee that you can take.

15. Fort Atkinson

Distance from Milwaukee: 39 minutes, 58 miles

Another of the day trips to take around Milwaukee is one to Fort Atkinson.

This spot is 58 miles from Milwaukee and has a number of things to do like exploring the Riverside resort and visiting the Dorothy Carnes Country Park and Rose Lake State Natural Area .

16. Door County

Distance from Milwaukee: 2 hours 19 minutes, 154 miles

If you’re looking for the best road trips from Milwaukee, you can’t go wrong with Door County as it’s the furthest day trip from Milwaukee on this list.

There is so much to do here whether you love the outdoors, hanging out in museums, or diving! Therefore, many combine it with a Door County cabin getaway.

Diving is one of the most unique things to do in Door County due to the high number of shipwrecks off the coast. Although you can see the wreckages from a boat, or even the shore in some cases, going diving is a once-in-a-lifetime experience here.

I also recommend taking a Segway to explore Fish Creek, a ferry to Washington Island, or relaxing on the beaches (they’re some of the best beaches in Wisconsin ).

If you want to see more of the countryside, check out the Door County wine trail.

This will let you see some of the region’s beautiful landscapes, AND go wine tasting at some of the best wineries in Door County !

Basically, if it wasn’t already obvious, this is not only one of my favorite Milwaukee day trips, but also one of my top getaways to vacation in Wisconsin !

Depending on the time of year you visit, you can also visit the vineyards or go cherry-picking.

But Door County is also one of the best winter day trips from Milwaukee if you enjoy winter activities like ice fishing or snowshoeing.

17. Sheboygan

Distance from Milwaukee: 56 minutes, 57.7 miles

I absolutely fell in love with Sheboygan’s Bookworm Gardens. It’s definitely one of the top things to do in Sheboygan, WI .

Although it’s designed for kids, if you love books and botanical gardens, you’ll also adore this place.

But the gardens do make Sheboygan one of the best Milwaukee day trips for families.

There are also several beautiful parks, especially Deland Park and Evergreen Park, to wander around and enjoy nature.

If you love to surf, you can’t miss Sheboygan! It is also known as the Freshwater Surf Capital of the World.

For those that decide to stay longer than one day, there are lots of great hotels in Sheboygan to choose from.

18. Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin

Distance from Milwaukee: 1 hour, 2 minutes, 60 miles

This is another wonderful option if you are considering both Milwaukee day trip ideas or weekend trips in Wisconsin .

Elkhart is the perfect romantic getaway!

But if you don’t have time for a full weekend, I still recommend a romantic afternoon picnic on Sandy Beach.

If you are able to be there for it, try to visit during the famous Road America Race, held every summer. The race dates back 50 years and is great fun!

19. Wisconsin Dells

Distance from Milwaukee: 1 hour, 55 minutes, 123 miles

There are so many amazing things to do in Wisconsin Dells that it’s easily one of the best weekend road trips from Milwaukee.

For starters, the Wisconsin Dells is home to  The Noah’s Ark , the largest waterpark in the United States . For hot summer days, there’s also the Mt. Olympus Water Park!

But if theme parks aren’t your thing, there’s still plenty to do in Wisconsin Dells.

You can have a relaxing day trip from Milwaukee hanging out at the spa or indoor jacuzzi!

If the weather is nice and you want to get outdoors, go for a walk through the forest or along the beach.

In fact, the hiking in Wisconsin Dells is some of the best in the state.

Wisconsin Dells is also a great starting point for a short Wisconsin road trip TO Milwaukee.

20. Six Flags Great America

Distance from Milwaukee: 45 minutes, 49.3 miles

Are you hoping for driving trips from Milwaukee that end in a day of fun?

Then Six Flags Great America is the day trip for you!

This place is definitely is for the kid in all of us and will have you feeling giddy like a kid for a day.

If you love crazy roller coasters you’ll be in heaven at Six Flags Great America.

They have the American Eagle, Goliath, the Viper, and more!

But if roller coasters aren’t your thing, there are plenty of other, more tame rides and even waterparks to keep you entertained all day!

21. Milwaukee Mile

Distance from Milwaukee: 12 minutes, 7 miles

Despite the name, this isn’t actually located in Milwaukee. Instead, the Milwaukee Mile is in West Allis, a suburb to the west of the city.

So if you are looking for some short road trips from Milwaukee just to get a break from the big city for a day, a visit to the Milwaukee Mile is a great option.

So what is the Milwaukee Mile?

It is a 1-mile oval race track where major events like NASCAR and Indy happen, and if a racing event is on, this is the place in Wisconsin to be!

This is the oldest operating speed track in the world and has hosted at least one event per year since 1903.

But the track isn’t all there is to see here. Milwaukee Mile is located on the site of the Wisconsin State Fair Park , which is a fairground that is open year-round.

The fairgrounds have been here since 1892, and are one of the best family day trips in Wisconsin.

22. Fond du Lac

Distance from Milwaukee: 1 hour, 59 miles

Fond du Lac, meaning “farthest end of the lake” in French, is perfect for scenic day trips from Milwaukee.

The city’s name is in reference to the fact that it is located at the bottom south end of Lake Winnebago – which of course is one of the top things to do while visiting for the day.

Cool off in this beautiful Wisconsin lake before enjoying a picnic at Lakeside Park – making it one of the best Wisconsin day trips for families and couples.

Don’t forget to admire the Fond du Lac Lighthouse while you’re here!

Families will absolutely love the Children’s Museum of Fond du Lac where kids can learn and play at the same time.

23. Indian Mounds and Trail Park

Distance from Milwaukee: 1 hour 3 minutes, 66 miles 

Interested in educational Wisconsin day trips for families? A visit to the Indian Mounds and Trail Park is the perfect family outing to get exercise AND learn more about the local history.

You’ll also get to enjoy the beautiful Milwaukee countryside along the way.

Located next to the Koshkonong Wildlife Area and Lake Koshkonong, the Indian Mounds – also called the Koshkonong Effigy Mounds – date all the way back to 650 and 1200 AD.

The mounds were erected by local Native American tribes in the shapes of animals and plants found in the area, which they wound have hunted and eaten.

There are over 70 mounds in the area, and you’ll find them in the shapes of birds, reptiles, fruits, and more!

24. Ten Chimneys 

Distance from Milwaukee: 35 minutes, 31 miles

Originally a summer home for Broadway legends Lynn Fontanne and Alfred Lunt, Ten Chimneys is now one of the most unique day trips near Milwaukee.

And yes, there ARE Ten Chimneys across the premises!

After opening its doors to the public in 2003, the house museum became a much loved tourist attraction – especially for those who love the arts.

Visitors can come for a tour of the house between May and November, and enjoy original furnishings, mementos from their travels, their art collection, and more.

This is one of the best things to do in Wisconsin in the fall if you are in this part of the state.

However, the Ten Chimneys Foundation also offers theater programs throughout the year in order to keep Lynn and Alfred’s love of the acting world alive.

25. Appleton

Distance from Milwaukee: 1 hour 41 minutes, 107 miles

Appleton is definitely one of the best day trips in Wisconsin for couples and families, and one of the most underrated cities in Wisconsin.

There are tons of great things to do in Appleton , no matter what you like to do. In fact, you could easily spend a whole weekend getaway here.

I absolutely love the Butterfly Gardens which houses over 200 different types of butterflies, and even a maze in the shape of a butterfly.

Visitors can even take home butterfly-friendly plants so that they might get winged visitors of their own.

Another great thing to do is walk along the Fox River and enjoy the stunning views. In the fall, the colors are exceptionally beautiful here.

To ensure this is one of the most relaxing and fun day trips for couples, make sure to pamper yourselves at one of the great Appleton spas.

My top recommendation is the Spa BenMarNicos at the CopperLeaf Hotel , which just so happens to be one of the best spa resorts in Wisconsin.

The route is 4.6 miles and travels through downtown, South Pier, the riverfront, and the lakefront. Popular destinations include Blue Harbor Resort, Harbor Pointe Mini Golf, Deland Park/North Beach, John Michael Kohler Arts Center, and more.

The 2023 schedule runs daily from June 12 – September 2. Look for the signs at any of these locations and scan the QR code to track the trolley, map, and hours.

FUN FACT: Did you spy the world’s largest flag before exiting the highway for Sheboygan? Located at Acuity Insurance, the flag is 120 ft wide by 60 ft tall, and the pole is 11 feet in diameter! Visitors are welcome at the flagpole and memorial at any time. 

• The flagpole is nearly 100 feet taller than the Statue of Liberty!

Above & Beyond Children’s Museum , one of many children’s museums in Wisconsin is a fantastic place for kids and their grownups to play (and learn). The museum offers an array of interactive exhibits that are both educational and entertaining. Kids can learn about science, art, and history while adults can play along too!

There is so much to explore in this children’s museum! A grocery store, a doctor’s office, a toddler play area, a hand-carved, animated circus display, a fire truck, a schoolhouse, a lighthouse, and more!

The newest addition to the museum is an octopus-themed park outside. This unique playground has rubberized ground and a fun climbing structure and swing. Make sure to get a picture in front of the beautiful whale mural on the side of the museum’s wall. 

North Beach & Deland Park

The beach on the north side of town has a park, a nautical-themed boat playground right on the sand, volleyball courts, a long pier with a lighthouse at the end, a boat launch area, pavilions, and a walking trail.

Located off Deland Park on the harbor’s north break wall, make sure to walk out and snap a picture of the Sheboygan Breakwater Lighthouse! Built-in 1915, the lighthouse stands 55 feet tall. The lighthouse can be viewed from the shore or by a stone and concrete breakwater pathway. 

The Lottie Cooper was constructed in 1876 and tragically sank in a fierce storm nearby Sheboygan Harbor in 1894. She represents one of approximately 10,000 vessels that have disappeared in the Great Lakes, with 700 sinkings specifically in Lake Michigan and 62 around the local Sheboygan area. The shipwreck was discovered before building the marina and is now exhibited at Deland Park. Enjoy a self-guided or guided tour.

If you need a snack, head to Blast Soft Serve ! Open in the summer, the ice cream shop serves soft-serve ice cream, Dole Whip, and Slush Puppies. Walk-up service with outdoor seating.

The John Michael Kohler Arts Center in Sheboygan is a free art museum showcasing contemporary artwork in a wide variety of media. Founded in 1967, the center has become a major hub of artistic expression in Wisconsin and worldwide. Visitors to the museum can experience everything from painting and sculpture to performance art and music. 

The arts center has two locations – the original location downtown and its newest location, The Art Preserve, on the outskirts of town. Both locations are family-friendly and unique. The downtown location has a beautiful hands-on art studio perfect for kids. The Art Preserve has so much to look at and a fun and engaging art journal activity to guide your way through the immersive spaces. 

INSIDER TIP: Visit the washrooms! Artists carefully designed the bathrooms, and are also works of art. “America’s best bathrooms,” according to ABC’s Good Morning America. 

Bookworm Gardens

Bookworm Gardens in Sheboygan is a playful 7.5-acre botanic garden inspired by literature, the natural world, and the imagination. Walk through and explore whimsical gardens based on favorite children’s books, such as “Winnie the Pooh”, “The Magic School Bus” and “Charlotte’s Web,” and participate in hands-on activities and programs that promote literacy and the love of reading. Grab a book and read a story, dig in the garden, play house, and discover hidden treasures. Find new adventures with every visit!

Shaw Family Playground

The Shaw Family Playground is unique as it is the only fully accessible park in Sheboygan. Started by a local couple, Ryan and Angie Shaw, the family began fundraising for a playground after Angie gave birth to conjoined twins Mateo and McHale in 2006. In September of that year, a team of 65 medical professionals spent 19 hours separating the spinal cord the boys shared. Now the boys are healthy, in school, and have friends they want to share a playground and park with. This park is perfect for working off some energy with the kiddos.

The fully accessible ADA playground includes:

• Cozy Dome – allows over-stimulated children, especially autistics, to “take a break”
• Sway Fun – allows two children who use wheelchairs to share a glider with non-disabled friends
• Omni Spinner – children of all abilities to play alongside each other and “spin.”
• Oodle Swing – large enough for 4 to 6 children, with transfer points for wheelchair or walker

Kohler-Andrae State Park

Kohler-Andrae State Park is one of our favorite Wisconsin State Parks near the Fox Cities . This beautiful state park sits on the shores of Lake Michigan and is best known for its sandy beaches and cordwalk (like a boardwalk but above sand) through the dunes.

The Kohler-Andrae State Park is truly a place out of a fairytale with majestic sand dunes, miles of golden beach, and fun for the whole family. It is one of the last natural preserves along the Lake Michigan shoreline, and you can camp at lakeside sites!

Aside from swimming, hiking is one of the most popular activities in this area. Guests who are looking for a little challenge can attempt the Dunes Cordwalk, a trail that runs parallel to the shoreline. Along the path, enjoy sand dunes, dry-mesic white pine forests, and wetlands. 

Those looking to spend a day exploring and embracing nature can visit the Sanderling Nature Center, part of Kohler-Andrae’s wildlife refuge. Kiddos will learn about animals, plants, sand dunes, and the park’s history. The gift shop also offers field guides, patches, treats, and other surprises!

PRO TIP: This state park can get pretty busy on summer weekends. We suggest arriving earlier in the day if visiting on Saturdays or Sundays. 

Blue Harbor Resort

Blue Harbor Resort in Sheboygan is a beachfront hotel perfect for families or adult getaways. It’s one of the best indoor waterparks in Wisconsin for younger kids.

Enjoy your treat inside or from the waterfront picnic tables outside. 

PRO TIP: Make sure to look up to see the train while waiting in line!  

The resort has access to lots of beachfront to enjoy! Connected to King Park / South Beach , this beach is a bit quieter than North Beach and great for swimming and playing in the sand. The beach is open to the public, but no public restrooms exist. It’s also a great place for picnics and long walks!

Harbor Pointe Mini Golf is a family-owned nautical-themed 18-hole mini golf course on the waterfront and also near Blue Harbor.

Farmer Brandon came to Wisconsin to meet Grace's family on 'Farmer Wants a Wife.' So, what did they think?

Warning: Spoilers ahead from Episode 11 of Fox's "Farmer Wants a Wife" Season 2 that aired Thursday, April 25.

Farmer Brandon Rogers — and the world — got a glimpse of dater Grace Girard's homestate of Wisconsin on "Farmer Wants a Wife" this week:

Caledonia farming fields, acres of green grass, beautiful homes, ponds and big blue skies.

Rogers also met his potential future-in-laws, Girard's parents. Oh, and Grace revealed she's "falling in love" with him. NBD.

But, the thought of her leaving behind her family and moving more than 1,000 miles away remained heavy on her heart.

This season's four farmers are down to their two final daters . On Thursday's episode, the farmers each visited one of their daters' hometowns and met their loved ones for the first time.

Girard and her crew, who live in Caledonia, were up first for Rogers.

"He loved Milwaukee and Wisconsin," Girard told the Journal Sentinel after the episode aired. "He was like all the rage about it. So that was really fun. It was great to show him around, and it was super-emotional actually just to be like, 'This is my world.'"

But before the visits, the daters spent their last day on the farms with their farmers.

The 'Farmer Wants and Wife' daters' last day on the farms

While Rogers and Girard sat on the back of his truck in a field, he asked her how she was feeling about it being the last day at the farm.

"Sad," she replied.

"I've been very blessed and lucky and happy to have you on the farm," Rogers told her. "And, very excited to meet your family."

"Yeah! I'm really excited to see them," Girard said.

With Girard's potential move to the farm — a potato and barley operation in Center, Colorado — she told him she's worried about how far away it is from her family. Rogers said he understood her concern.

"I've heard about her family from the beginning," Rogers said in a confessional. "Asking someone to move away from their family and move to the farm, I think that's a big step."

Rogers and his other remaining dater, Emerson, spent their time together that day gathering eggs from Rogers' chickens.

"The thing about Emerson, she understands farming," Rogers said in a cutaway. "Our lifestyles seem to be a really good match."

Later that day, the daters said goodbye to their farmers and farms.

Rogers and his dog watched as they drove off.

"Are we gonna be sad?" Rogers asked his four-legged friend in a baby voice. "Should we go back in the house? Let's go."

The doggo let out a whimper. And now we're holding back tears.

In a cutaway, Rogers said he hoped he would get some clarity in the upcoming days, and that the family visits would help him determine his person.

As Farmer Brandon drove to Caledonia, he talked about his thoughts going into meeting Grace's family

Viewers got to see the landscapes of Caledonia as Rogers drove into town. Nettles described the village's location as "a stone's throw" from Milwaukee. We concur.

"It's been a while since I have met a girlfriend's family, so there's definitely some nerves coming back up," Rogers said.

As some of the couple's memorable moments played, Rogers said it's very natural with Girard. He called her "very" sweet, pretty and smart.

"She's obviously pretty comfortable on the farm, and there's definitely a lot of possibility there," Rogers said. "But, Grace is very involved with her family. So, is she really ready to give that up and possibly live in the middle of nowhere?"

Dater Grace's family meets Farmer Brandon for the first time

"My connection feels really, really strong with him," Girard said in a confessional. "So, it's everything to have my family's approval."

Inside the Girards' breathtaking home, Grace, her parents, two sisters and aunt were in the kitchen, preparing for Rogers' visit.

"It's important to us that we like him too, because we want to know that you're happy," Girard's aunt said.

Girard called her family "the most important part" of her life as Rogers rang the doorbell.

"Hi, Farmer Brandon," Girard said as she opened the door.

The two hugged while Girard told him she missed him.

"I missed you, too," he said, bashfully.

Then it was time for the grand reveal.

"Here's Farmer Brandon!" Girard said as she brought him in to meet her family.

Rogers hugged the ladies, then went in for a handshake with Girard's dad, Sam.

"That's one hell of a belt buckle," Sam told Rogers as the room burst into laughter.

"I don't know how it's gonna go with my family," Girard said in a confessional. "It's kind of just like a big test if I see myself with him long-term."

As they all sat in the living room, Girard asked Rogers how his drive was. He said it was good and that "it's beautiful out here." You know it!

It only took him around 20 minutes to get to Girard's house from the airport as opposed to the four hours — through mountains and valleys — it takes him to get to an airport from his farm.

In his neck of the woods, rush hour is at 3:30 p.m. when school gets out and consists of only about 15 cars, he said.

That made Girard's mom wonder how many students were in Rogers' high school. He said there were about 90 students total from kindergarten through 12th grade, and that he graduated with 23.

Then, Sam got down to business.

"So, you've known Grace now for that brief period of time," Sam said. "What have you learned about her that you like?"

Rogers said "obviously" her personality and how she's very funny and genuine.

"And, what have you learned about yourself as you've gone through this process?" Sam, with another good one.

It's been "eye-opening," Rogers said, and he's learned that it's nice to have someone around the house, as well as learning different perspectives.

Remember back when Girard asked Rogers' dad a juicy question about Brandon when she first met him? Now we know where she gets it from.

Was Rogers single for five years on purpose? That's what Girard's aunt asked him.

"Dating in the valley is hard," Rogers explained. "It's not like you can go out to the bar and meet someone new ... I definitely live in an extremely remote area. But, I do love what I do — in the field, taking care of something that's alive."

In a confessional, Sam said he thinks Rogers is "very honest." But, his daughter is used to being 19 minutes from a big city and enjoys her friends, groups and going out.

"There's not as much of that in the middle-of-nowhere Colorado," Sam said. "So that is my biggest worry."

Dater Grace's sisters pull Farmer Brandon aside for a chat

Girard's sisters — Natalie and Abby — pulled Rogers away for a little chat.

"Well, this escalated quickly," Rogers said.

"Let me know if you need another drink," Sam replied.

"I might," Rogers said.

"My sisters very much want to make sure that I end up with the right person," Girard said in a cutaway. "They know I have strong feelings for him. Hopefully, he performs well."

Once they got settled in the basement, Rogers asked Girard's sisters if they had heard a lot about him. Answer? YUP.

"From what Grace has told us, she like really likes you," Natalie said.

"I feel like we make a good connection, and there is kind of hope there," Rogers told them.

Natalie wanted to know if he thought their personalities and lifestyles would mesh well long-term. With Girard being more of a "city girl" and Rogers living in such a remote spot, Rogers said they'd have to try to see.

"And, she loves you guys," Rogers told them. "So, I worry about taking her away from you guys."

Natalie thought everything he said was "spot-on" and said he and Grace would have to talk and figure it out together.

"Maybe that's what it comes down to, a deep discussion with Grace," Rogers said.

Abby asked Rogers when he'd have that discussion with her sister. Cue the suspenseful music.

The three started laughing as Rogers fired a finger gun and let out a "Dang!"

"I thought he was super-nice, like a very genuine person," Abby said in a confessional.

"But, we're definitely protective of Grace," Natalie added.

"Grace moving out there, I think she would have to be 100% sure that she thinks that Brandon and her could go the distance," Abby said.

What else Grace's family had to say about Farmer Brandon

Rogers gave the Girard family a few minutes alone to share their thoughts with Grace.

"What do you guys think of him?" she asked them.

Grace's aunt thought Rogers was a "really nice guy." Sam called him "a good genuine person and a good spirit."

"I could see you with him," Natalie said. "I think my only worry, too, is like different lifestyles. Will you miss your life here? And, figure out how that would work."

While Girard wants to end up with Brandon, she said in a confessional, she revealed that she's been homesick since she's been in Colorado.

"Meeting Grace's family was, you know, that was the cherry on top," Rogers said in a cutaway. "Because Grace is such an amazing woman. Getting to see where that stemmed from is really awesome."

If the roles were reversed, though, he said he might have a really hard time leaving his family.

Grace took Farmer Brandon on a walk through her neighborhood and things got deep

Girard took Rogers on a walk through her neighborhood, which he called "very pretty."

And, we have an answer for Abby as to when Rogers will have that deep convo with her sister. Literally, right now.

Seeing how close Girard is to her family and how much they love each other, it "hyped the pressure up" for him, he told Girard.

"Life's good. You like being close to the city. At what point does that become possibly troublesome?" Rogers said.

"Yeah, you're kind of far away from things," Girard said. "But, the No. 1 thing for me is finding my person. And, I do feel like I have significant feelings for you. I'd want to see where that goes."

Rogers called her an "amazing woman" and said he finds himself missing her when they're not talking.

"Grace and I have this really good emotional connection," he said in a confessional. "I'm really looking forward to now seeing where things might go."

"If You Love Her" by Forest Blakk started playing as Rogers said he should probably get back on the road.

"Aww, man, so sad," Girard said.

"Are you going to be able to handle being away for so long?" he asked her.

"No," she replied.

The two shared the longest embrace and the sweetest kiss.

"I'm feeling bubbly about Brandon right now," Girard said in a confessional. "I think I definitely am falling in love."

At the time of the Wisconsin trip, Girard hadn't seen her family or friends since she left for filming.

"Getting home, I was just so grateful to see them for the first time after like, you know, it was like six weeks at that point," Girard told the JS. "That was awesome. It was really cool to see them all interacting."

While in town, Girard got to get together with all of her friends in Milwaukee. They had dinner at San Giorgio Pizzeria Napoletana, then were off to Nashville North.

"I was like, 'We need to go a country bar,' " Girard said. They also went to Wolski's Tavern, one of Girard's go-tos .

And, Rogers got to catch a Bucks game while he was here, Girard said.
