Important Notes

1. CULTURE India is a country which is very different to anything you will have experienced before. Although this means it is not the easiest place to travel, this is also what makes it so special. Pollution, poverty and the crowds can result in initial culture shock but should be seen as an exciting new challenge. During our time here we have come to love this large and wonderfully different country but we know that we should always expect to encounter some difficulties along the way. In India there are very different attitudes to time keeping, public cleanliness, privacy and service. Trains will sometimes be late, plumbing can sometimes be temperamental and power will often just vanish. Optimistic menus turn out to have only one dish available and everyone, just everyone, will want to know your name. If you are able to travel with a lot of patience and a healthy sense of humour, then we know that you - like all of us - will be captivated by what India has to offer. 2. COMBO TRIP Please note that this tour combines with other G Adventures tours. As such, the staff and some travel companions on your tour may have previously been traveling together with G Adventures, prior to Day 1 of your tour. Likewise, some staff and travel companions may be continuing together on another G Adventures tour, after your trip concludes. 3. ACCOMMODATION NOTE: Please be aware that properties we stay in with only two stories may not have elevators installed and climbing the stairs with your luggage will be necessary.

Eating is a big part of travelling. Travelling with G Adventures you experience the vast array of wonderful food that is available out in the world. Generally meals are not included in the trip price when there is a choice of eating options, to give you the maximum flexibility in deciding where, what and with whom to eat. It also gives you more budgeting flexibility, though generally food is cheap. Our groups tend to eat together to enable you to taste a larger variety of dishes and enjoy each other's company. There is no obligation to do this though. Your CEO will be able to suggest favourite restaurants during your trip. Vegetarians will be able to find a huge range of different foods - India is vegetarian heaven. For all trips please refer to the meals included and budget information for included meals and meal budgets.

Itinerary notes.

Want to experience the sights and sounds of Holi? Make sure you’re in India on March 14, 2025 or March 4, 2026 for the nation’s most colourful festival.

Day 1 Delhi

Arrive at any time and welcome to India's bustling capital - Delhi!

Tonight, wander through the electric Karol Bagh market for your first night out; pick the best looking spot and cheers to new adventures and friends!

Exclusive Inclusions:

Day 2 delhi/āgra.

Relax on the morning train to Agra while admiring the arid terrain and small towns. On arrival, check the famous Taj Mahal world wonder off your bucket list as you marvel at the iconic Mughal architecture. Immerse yourself in a guided tour and learn of the mausoleum's unique history. Opt to visit Baby Taj and the Agra Fort, the Taj’s less famous—but no less impressive—sister monument, also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Day 3 Āgra/Jaipur

Today we take a bus (always an adventure itself in India) to the capital of Rajasthan — Jaipur. Clothed in sandstone pink stucco, Jaipur is known as the "Pink City" and is one of the most important heritage cities in India. It's home to India’s second most visited site, the Hawa Mahal, or "Palace of the Winds." Ride a cycle rickshaw to the markets and enjoy an orientation walk through the stalls. In your free time, opt to visit the City Palace, the observatory, or check out a song-and-dance Bollywood film in India's largest movie theatre.

Day 4 Jaipur

Embark on a guided tour of Amber Fort, another UNESCO World Heritage Site to check off your list. The Fort's sandstone walls are perched on a hill almost blending in with the terrain, besides perfectly reflecting in Maota Lake creating a mirage effect (and perfect photograph). Wander through the halls, courtyards, and palaces inside and admire the intricate details. Afterward, head back to Jaipur and spend the free afternoon exploring with your fellow travellers and see where the night takes you.

Day 5 Jaipur/Tordi Sāgar

Ride to peaceful Tordi Sāgar and dive into rural life by visiting local potters, cobblers, and markets on a guided walk through the village. If you're feeling athletic, join in on a cricket match with some local players. In your free time, opt to bounce around with your new friends during a jeep safari or camel cart ride to the dunes for sunset. Head out for a hike in the hills or get a henna tattoo from local women. Tordi Sāgar is your oyster!

Meals included:

Day 6 tordi sāgar/pushkar.

Have a final taste of rural village life over a traditional lunch before travelling to Pushkar, often called Tirth Raj or the king of pilgrim centres. Cruise through Ajmer and over Snake Mountain to Pushkar — the site of the world’s only temple to the Hindu god of creation, Brahma. After settling into your accommodation, get your bearings on an orientation walk around the colourful city with cascading architecture and capture a group photo on the lake.

Day 7 Pushkar

Before dawn, climb to the hilltop Savitri Temple and catch the sun rising over the towering Thar Desert mountains. Afterward, reflect on the serenity at one of the many cafés in town, stretch and meditate during a calming yoga session, or scour the markets. Immerse yourself in the peaceful environment of the riverside home that played an important role in India's freedom and learn of the sites unique history. From here, get some rest on an overnight train as you cruise to Mumbai.

Day 12 Mumbai

Arrive in Mumbai and stretch your legs on an orientation walk of Colaba and the Fort district. Enjoy a free day to uniquely explore the bustling metropolis; be sure to capture a group photo under the Gateway to India. Opt to take a boat to the UNESCO World Heritage Site Elephanta Island, famous for intricate cave temples carved in rock walls.

Day 13 Mumbai/Goa

Hop on a short morning flight to North Goa. Head to the white sand beaches, visit the many Portuguese-built monuments, wander around the churches of Old Goa (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), and discover Panjim, the capital. In the evening, opt to sample tasty treats at the night market and take in the nightlife of this coastal state.

Enjoy a free day to wind down in the paradise that is Goa. Relax on the beaches with your favourite drink in hand or mingle in the many beach bars. Scour the markets, and be sure to try some delicious Goan cuisine and fresh seafood. Get ready to dance the night away for your big night out as a group. Enjoy a drink on us and cut a rug.

G Adventures: Rajasthan & Varanasi: Trains & the Taj – India 20 day group tour REVIEW

Brit and I are both very independent travellers and love to just explore at our own pace which is why we’re not really group tour kinda people (although we have been on a few ).

However, when it came around to planning our trip to  India , a lot of people warned us about traveling India solo, especially as females. So we decided that the best thing to do was to book a tour to ensure that we had the best time traveling without having to worry (our parents) about our safety. After some research and seeing that some of my favourite bloggers (such as Rachel ) swear by them, we decided to go with G Adventures .

g adventures tour india

Check out the full itinerary and inclusions on the G Adventure’s website  here .

My highlights.

  • Exploring Raisar by camel
  • Spending a night sleeping in a bed in the middle of the desert
  • Exploring the ‘Golden City’, Jaisalmer
  • Admiring the architecture of the City Palace in Udaipur
  • Getting my palm read
  • Ziplining at Neemrana
  • Shopping in the markets and bazaars of Jaipur
  • Exploring the Amber Fort in Jaipur
  • Drinking lots of masala chai
  • Watching the beautiful sunrise at the Taj Mahal
  • Seeing a Punjabi film in the Raj Mandir Cinema

G Adventures names their guides ‘CEO’s; Chief Executive Officers, which I love as they put in so much hard work and love into their jobs. Our CEO, Shelly, was brilliant. He always made sure that we were all safe, having fun and that no one was singled out. He went above and beyond his role as CEO a number of times, for example, like the time one of our group members forgot a pair of shoes at a hostel and he had them mailed to us in a hostel further down the line. Or the time that a few of us got majorly ripped off by an official Vodafone store in Delhi and he helped us get our money back. He also just loved to spend time with us and hang out as well as party a little. He was always more than happy to answer any questions that anyone threw at him and gave us any onward travel advice that he could. We still keep in touch with him now on our group chat!

The accommodation

The accommodation in G Adventures tours vary across which ‘style’ of trip you’ve opted for. For example the National Geographic Journey style tours feature “upgraded accommodations” whereas I was on an 18-to-Thirtysomethings tour which uses a wide range of accommodation from hostels & homestays to camping.

All accommodation used on my tour was awesome. It was a good mix of budget hotels in hustle and bustle cities to sometimes having a whole hotel to ourselves in the middle of a more off the beaten track location and let’s not forget that night spent sleeping under the stars in the desert. All of the hotels that I stayed in on my tour had very lovely staff, working A/C and most had some kind of laundry service and some great food on offer.

Responsible travel

One of the main reasons why I love G Adventures so much is that they stand behind some great values; including but not limited to responsible travel. G works with a number of companies including Planeterra , a foundation that helps to support women, youth and communities all across the world as well as the environment. Whilst on this trip in India, you’ll encounter City Walk in Delhi and Women With Wheels numerous times.

“Planet Earth is an amazing place, but it’s far from perfect. Since the very beginning, G Adventures has operated under the belief that travel is an exchange, not a commodity. As a social enterprise, the planet is our product. Its social and environmental welfare is fundamentally important to us – not just as a business, but as human beings, too. When you travel with us, you’re giving back as much – if not more – than what you take away, often in ways you’d never expect.” – G Adventures

The ease of things

One of the things I love about group tours is that everything is planned for you. You don’t have to rush around trying to plan what you’re going to do or worry about when your bus is coming and if you’re at the right pick-up point; as it’s all planned for you.

I’m also really grateful that all of our transport was sorted for us as the one time Brit & I had to get a tuk-tuk by ourselves… we got ripped off and almost got into a very scary situation. Luckily the dude had pulled up at the place we’d booked for dinner (and to meet the rest of our group) and as soon as things started to get weird, the security guards came over and helped us. You’ve also most likely heard about our hotel transfer not showing up when we arrived in Delhi airport if you’ve read this post. And that could’ve also gone very wrong and we’re both extremely grateful it didn’t. I’m not trying to scare you from going solo, but due to the kind of person I am I know I really wouldn’t have coped being alone in those situations.

Not to mention how awesome the itinerary was. It was a great mix of pre-organised days with group activities to free days where we had the opportunity to explore at our own pace. There’s also a list of optional activities which you can opt to take part in. Brit & I are actually opted to take part in most of them as most of them were really cheap and we wanted to experience as much of India as we could.

g adventures tour india

Considering the amount of travel, high standard accommodation and awesome activities included in this tour, it’s a very good cost at just £699 (at time of writing).

Obviously this price doesn’t include money for food, alcohol, souvenirs and tips. It is recommended to bring £400, and I spent £350. I didn’t buy many souvenirs (please remember to haggle!) and I didn’t drink too much alcohol as we only had one night out.

Other Information

In terms of nightlife, I didn’t really get that kind of vibe from India and on our tour there wasn’t really that many opportunities to go out-out. We went out twice: once in Jaipur and again in Delhi on our last night. On nights we didn’t hit the bars, the evenings were spent either hanging out as a group playing games, group meals or just having some relax time back at the hotel. There was absolutely no pressure to do anything which I thought was awesome and I felt safe enough to go explore by myself as well 🙂

The food was really really good. We had a lot of group meals which I enjoyed as it’s the easiest way to break the ice with your group. But I also regret not exploring by ourselves as much to find different restaurants. I think we were all a bit too afraid of getting ‘Delhi Belly’ – which, luckily for me, I didn’t (but Brit did). Breakfast is included in the rate at a lot of the hotels we stayed at and if it wasn’t, there was always an opportunity to get something either the night before or in the morning.

I loved our group. No G Adventures group is more than 22. Our group was made up of 14 people. In terms of nationalities, the majority of this group tour were British, and we had 1 Canadian, 1 American, a couple of Kiwis, an Irish and someone from Germany. Both Brit & I made some really good connections with our group and we’re still all in touch today (some more than others).

g adventures tour india

Rounding up

I’ve been on a few tours before and have enjoyed every single one but this one really stood out to me as I really don’t think I would have enjoyed this trip as much as if it was just Brit & I.

I especially think tours are perfect if you’re a new ornervous traveler (like myself ). I also think tours are great for travellers who don’t have a lot of time and are wanting to cram a lot of things in.

Obviously, you can do this trip for less money if you organised it by yourself but I love this way of travelling and so do a lot of people. I think it’s such an awesome start or finish to a gap year as you can just relax and not have to stress over what you’re doing. We finished our gap year with this tour 🙂

I really think that our CEO, Shelly, really made our trip special and I think that it was great value for money.  I’d be more than happy to go on another tour with G Adventures in the future.

Save it for later…

G Adventures Announces 2024 GX Community Tourism Summit to Take Place in India

G Adventures , the world's largest privately owned small-group adventure travel company, has just announced the imminent return of last year’s GX Community Tourism Summit in 2024, to be hosted in conjunction with its non-profit partner, Planeterra, in the vibrant destination of India .

After seeing how incredibly successful its inaugural event was in Cusco, Peru in 2023, G Adventures and Planeterra will once again invite an assortment of agents, suppliers, media members and travelers to assemble in-destination to experience firsthand the profound impact that community tourism can have on local people in a destination, as well as on travelers themselves.

Scheduled to run from September 24 to 29, 2024, the second GX Summit will also reprise the incorporation of the Change Makers agent event, which brings together “agents of change” from all around the globe. The summit itself will wrap up with full-day World Community Tourism celebration on September 27, 2024, coinciding with World Tourism Day.

The Change Makers campaign signup is already live and submissions will be accepted through May 31, 2024. The initiative incentivizes advisors to work toward altering people’s lives through travel by booking trips with G Adventures. Advisors who succeed in securing a place at the Change Makers conference will witness firsthand how their efforts directly benefit the communities their clients visit during a six-day exploration of India.

In concert with the non-profit Planeterra, G Adventures selected India as the host country for its 2024 GX Community Tourism Summit because of its colorful culture, wealth of tourism offerings, warm hospitality and the limitless opportunities to launch more community tourism projects intended to spread wealth within the country.

Bruce Poon Tip, founder of both G Adventures and Planeterra, called India an obvious choice of venue for the event, given the type of experience that the GX Summit provides to participants.

“Last year we hosted our first GX Summit in Peru, and I was mind blown by the feedback we received following the event,” he said. “There was no question we had to repeat this experience. The feedback from attendees was so encouraging, people came back energized about the power of community tourism to make a real difference to people in the places we visit.”

He continued, “India is an electrifying location, and one that really needs tourism’s support. It’s not fully bounced back since the pandemic, so I’m excited to host our guests and to be able to encourage more people to travel to India the right way at the same time. There’s no better feeling for me than seeing all our communities come together over one shared experience. We learn a lot, but we also have a lot of fun.”

The GX Summit itinerary will guide attendees on an immersive six-day journey across such destinations as Delhi, Jaipur and Agra, highlighting aspects of community tourism in each location. The culminant World Community Tourism Day Summit on September 27 will convene advisors, suppliers, media and travelers together to listen to inspiring speakers discuss the transformative potential of community tourism.

Agents interested in attending can find more information on the Change Makers campaign on the G Adventures website or contact their regional global purpose specialist. Further details on GX and the World Community Tourism Day program will be unveiled in the coming months.
