35 Amazing Travel Essentials That You Need On Your Next Girl’s Trip

February 26, 2022

Are you a hottie going on a girl's trip soon? I gotchu!

Girl's Trip

Did someone say girl’s trip? Say no more, queen! Y’all know I’m all about my friends, and hanging out with them is the ultimate self care! IMO, a girl’s trip is truly the most cost effective therapy retreat.

Okay, but tell me, what’s something that you don’t go on a girl’s trip without? Wine tumblers, snacks, and a silk sleeping mask…..hello! But what else, though?

If your friend group goes back and forth about what to bring on every girl’s trip, then you’ve definitely come to the right place!

I get so many questions about what to bring on a girl’s trip.  I am definitely not a girl’s trip packing expert (does such a thing even exist?), but over the years, I’ve learned the best things to bring on a trip with my besties. I’m so excited to share exactly what you guys need to pack, whether the trip is for a bachelorette party, birthday, or just a get together with friends!

Okay, pinch me. Girl’s trip……We’re ready for ya!

Girl’s Trip

1. starbucks tumbler.

Does anyone else make a quick run to Starbucks before going on a girl’s trip? Let's be honest: We can't go a day without it!

A Starbucks tumbler is obviously the perfect thing you need to officially kick off any girl’s trip.

We are all Starbucks girls here, right? Leave me your fav drink in the comments! (Pretty please)

2. Cocktail Mixes

If I’m being honest, I don’t trust any girl who forgets to bring cocktail mixes on a girl’s trip.

I want you to be known as the girl who always knows how to bring the party.

3. Cocktail Recipe Book

COCKTAIL RECIPE BOOK aka everything you love in life!

I seriously can’t think of a better way to elevate your cocktail game. What I really mean to say is “I seriously can’t think of a better way to win Cocktail Night!” Because cocktail night is a competition, right?!

Serve up all of the cocktails (fast plz!!!)

4. Drink Pouches

Y’all know I’m basic AF, so you KNOW I can’t write about girl’s trip travel essentials without mentioning drink pouches?

I can’t even begin to tell you how essential drink pouches are (not being dramatic at all, ha!)

5. Silk Pajamas

What’s your favorite part of a girl’s trip? Mine is sleeping in silk pajamas and staying in them until noon!

You will literally not be able to get enough of silk pajamas. The fabric is hypo-allergenic, super comfy, and breathable, which basically translates to a great night’s sleep. holla!

6. Drink Pool Float

Hold my Truly. Are you ready to be obsessed?

We are obsessed with drink pool floats for pool days, and we can 10000 percent guarantee that you’ll be obsessed with them too.

They are truly perfect for holding your bottle, glass, or can, and if your friend group is like my friend group, you guys can also play fun drinking games with them.

I know, I know…you’ve never seen yourself smiling like this in front of your phone until this very moment. You guys need this drink pool holder now!

7. Fanny Packs

Okay, hear me out: If don’t like the idea of a fanny pack, I promise you will after taking one with you on a girl’s trip.

I originally bought one to go running, but I am far too busy taking my fanny pack basically everywhere except on a run. I love bringing a fanny pack with me on girl’s trips because it’s such an easy way to carry all of the things.

If you’re headed to a bachelorette party, you can easily create personalize fanny packs (or buy some cute personalized ones online!)

8. Makeup Remover Wipes

Makeup remover wipes are like that toxic ex you can’t get enough of. Like, you know it’s bad for you, but it’s extremely convenient and familiar.

I don’t remember the question, but makeup remover wipes are definitely the answer for a long night situation.

I know we’re not supposed to use makeup remover wipes or whatever, but they’re definitely travel essentials because, let’s admit it, we all feel so lazy taking our makeup off after drinking.

9. Water Bottle

If you do anything on your girl’s trip, let it be staying hydrated.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, water just taste better out of a gorgeous water bottle.

10. Nail Polish

When it’s been a long week, month, or year?, one of the nights on your girl’s trip should look like painting you guys’ nails in really cozy PJs.

I seriously don’t think I’ll ever get tired of doing my nails on a girl’s trip. There’s seriously nothing better than bonding with our girlfriends and pampering ourselves while discussing our dating stories, gossiping about our coworkers, and sharing secrets.

Does the fact that all of your friends pack a specific color of nail polish based off a spreadsheet your type A friend created mean that you guys have your life together? #areyouanickifan

11. Gel Nail Kit

When I hear celebrities and influencers telling us to “level up,” I think they essentially mean our nail game!

I know you’ve probably seen gel nail kits on your Instagram and TikTok, and maybe you’re thinking “Do I really need this?”

If we’re listening to celebrities and influencers, then yes you do. I mean, it’s the only way to

make sure your girls have nails that look like they just stepped out of nail salon.

12. Emergen C Packets

If you always go on a girl’s trip with many Emergen C packets, you’re probably the mom of your friend group that everyone appreciates and loves.

Emergen C is truly the best hangover remedy. It will keep everyone happy and healthy (and ready to drink again!)

13. Eye Masks

Who else wakes up with puffy eyes after a night partying with friends? Okay, everyone? We’re all in this together, loves!

Eye masks are travel essentials because we DON’T do puffy eyes or dark circles on our girl’s trip.

14. Turkish Towel

During a girl’s trip, you don’t want to be caught with any old towel. After all, you gotta look cute for those pics. Turkish towels look so cute at the beach and pool, and that’s why I highly recommend them.

Not only are they simply gorgeous, they also repel sand and dry/absorb quickly. Did I mention that they’re super soft too?

Imagine accidentally leaving this at the beach. You will be so mad mad! I could cry thinking about it. If it does happen though, we’ll going to let go and let God, and God will deliver it in two-day shipping!

15. Cute Makeup Bag

Does anyone else look at any of their travel essentials and think “I don’t want to pack that old thing?”

If you feel that way about your makeup bag, well, a girl’s trip is always a great excuse to get a new, cute one.

Life is really too short to not have a cute makeup bag in your life. #facts

Current Mood: Cake

I don’t know if I’m a weirdo, but I always associate a girl’s trip with cake. Cake is basically my love language, so you know I’m bringing one with me on a girl’s trip.

Whether you’re celebrating a birthday, throwing a bachelorette party, or going on a girl’s trip just because!, a gorgeous cake can make your time with your girls a little (or lot!) sweeter.

17. Heart Sunglasses

Heart sunglasses are the perfect addition to every girl’s beach bag because they literally look good on everyone.

DO NOT (sorry that’s really aggressive) end the girl’s trip without getting super cute photos with all of you guys wearing heart sunglasses.

18. Silk Sleeping Mask

The perfect sleeping mask doesn’t exi-oh wait! A silk sleeping mask is simply perfection.

When I tell you that I recommend silk sleeping mask to virtually every girl I run across, I wish I was exaggerating. It is THAT good!!

Silk eye masks can prevent eye wrinkles and improve sleep, and if you’re wondering if a silk sleeping mask can cure hangovers, the answer is basically yes.

See what I mean about silk eye masks? See?! You’ll triple love this!

19. Wine Tumblers

Okayyy, now we talkin’……wine tumblers!

My bestie loves describing them as the “best sippy cups for adults.” Haha.

I hate to be the one to tell you this but wine tumblers WILL ruin your life because you won’t be able to drink wine any other way now.

20. Body Mist

I feel like I could use a body mist several times a day (in fact I do sometimes!)

A body mist is one of the best investments you can make because it will be on REPEAT for those long days at the beach and pool.

21. Liquid IV Hydration

You will not be able to say no to liquid IV hydration because hangovers aren’t allowed on this girl’s trip.

Seriously though, liquid IV hydration is truly a must have to cure hangovers, and I seriously don’t want you to go on another girl’s trip without this life saver.

Honestly, the best purchase eva! Share to spread awareness!

22. Scrunchies

Are you team scrunchies or team claw clips? Most girls love scrunchies, and I’m happy to be one of them.

They are just so trendy, and you’ll love using them to tie up your hair on beach and pools days (which might be basically every day!) lol

The moment you’ve all been waiting for…..ADVIL. Okay that was anticlimactic 🙂

Advil is honestly such as a boring thing to pack, but it’s really something you don’t want to be without.

I can’t think of a better way to get rid of those annoyinggg hangover headaches. I’m never NOT without Advil, TBH.

24. Pool Floats

If someone asked me what’s my favorite girl’s trip travel essential, I would have to say pool floats. I just love them because they’re insanely cute and totally Instagram-y. The fact that almost every girl is equally addicted to pool floats makes me feel recognized.

So, I wouldn’t be a true friend if I didn’t mention pool floats. You literally can’t go wrong with a flamingo, pineapple, unicorn, donut, swan or seashell pool float. Obvi, pack an engagement ring pool float if there’s a future bride on the trip.

Pro Tip: Trust me when I say that no girl wants to manually blow up pool floats. Do yourself (and your friend group) a favor and pack an automatic pump.

25. Cooler Tote Bag

I feel like no one tells you how necessary cooler tote bags are for a girl’s trip. Like they can keep your food and drinks cool for hours and hours… wtf!?

I’m having a heat stroke just thinking about how cute a cooler tote bag will look on your girl’s trip. It should honestly be illegal how much you’ll love this.

26. Sunscreen

If you never get sunburns, how does it feel to be God’s favorite?

For the rest of us, we will NOT be on the struggle (sunburn?) bus during our girl’s trip, so sunscreen is pretty much mandatory.

27. Swimsuit

Can we all agree that a swimsuit is mandatory when we’re on a girl’s trip? Some things are just non-negotiable!

I mean obviously the best part of a girl’s trip is showing off our fabulous, stylish swimsuits!

Can I stay on this day trip forever and ever plz?

28. Glow Sticks

If you didn’t play with glow sticks when you were little, you did summer wrong.

Don’t worry, you can redeem yourself by “playing” with glow sticks on your girl’s trip.

29. Cute Straws

If you’re not sipping on drinks with cute straws during your girl’s trip…..wyd? Such a vibe!!

I’m going to answer the question everyone’s wondering, and yes you do need penis straws.

30. Hand Fan

Let’s be honest: A girl’s trip in the warmer months can be unbearable, so it’s kind of like a situation.

You’d be blown away if you have a fan on your girl’s trip (See what I did there?) But really, you’ll be a happy girl.

After a long day of drinking and bathing in the sun, you guys will probably crave some bomb a$$ snacks!

32. Alcohol

When it comes to alcohol on a girl’s trip, the limit does not exist. Totally joking!

I mean, drinking on a girl’s trip is the self care practice you didn’t know you needed (I just can’t stop!)

Let’s face it: A little fun never hurt anyone (plz drink responsibly though!)

33. Slim Can Insulator

Just add a slim can insulator to your cart right away, and don’t ask any questions. You’ll thank me later.

Slim can insulators keep your white claws, truly’s, and red bulls super cold until the last drop. They will definitely replace ALL of those random wedding koozies! (I can’t be the only girl who’s not a big fan of koozies!)

Tell your friends. This product is too good to leave the house without.

34. For The Girls

Every girl’s trip is better with some fun games. You know what I’m saying…you know what I’m saying??!!?!

Is there anything better than playing For The Girls? No? I didn’t think so. It’s also a great crummy weekend weather activity.

35. Goodie Bags

How freakin’ cute are goodie bags? I can’t!

If your love language is gift giving (or you’re a maid of honor), you should totally give goodie bags to all of your friend’s on the trip. This is exactly the type of thing I’ll do for all of my besties.

Here’s some of the things I would put in the goodie bags: Chap stick, tampons/pads, makeup remover wipes, gum, condoms, antibacterial gel, Tic Tacs, and Ring pops (if it’s a bachelorette party).

Brb going on a girl’s trip asap! I can’t wait for your next girl’s trip.

30 Best Girls-Trip Destinations

By Juliet Izon

30 Best GirlsTrip Destinations for 2024

Is there any vacation that’s more exciting to look forward to than a girls trip? No significant others, no kids, just your (chosen) family. But we know finding the perfect girls-trip destination is easier said than done: Do you want the hustle and bustle of New York City? Or is the vibe more to totally unplug ( babymoon style) somewhere in sunny Florida? Are your friends wanting to stay put in America for a quick weekend getaway , or are they game for international jaunts to Mexico or the Caribbean?

We’ve helped narrow it down for you, with a comprehensive list of trip ideas that feature some of our favorite spots from around the globe (and hotels we've stayed in). Read on for where to go for the best girls trips. Now all you have to do is pick a date (and a carry-on ).

New Orleans

30 Best GirlsTrip Destinations for 2024

We probably don’t need to sell you too hard on the Big Easy: It’s been top of the list for girls trips probably since the city was founded in the 18th century. It’s a place that’s both rich in history and nightlife, which is why we love tours like Drink and Learn , where you can stroll some of New Orleans’s most famed streets with a cocktail in hand. And when you’ve had your fill of beignets, jazz, and vintage shopping on Magazine Street, you can stay at The Eliza Jane , a charming boutique hotel located ideally between the French Quarter and Arts District. The literary buffs in your crew will love that it's the former home of the The Daily Picayune and named for Eliza Jane Nicholson, the first woman publisher of any major newspaper, who worked there in the 19th century (how's that for on theme for a girls trip?). It offers the perfect respite from any Bourbon Street antics, with a lovely outdoor oasis where you can all unwind (seriously, you'll think you're in another city). With 50 stylish suites, a chic restaurant, and a bar with live music, there's more than enough space for your pals to enjoy, even if they don't want to leave the property.

Save when you book your girls trip with these Hotels.com promo codes and Expedia promo codes .

Asheville, North Carolina

Courtesy of The Radical

If you and the best friends have already conquered the Southern cities of Nashville and Austin, may we suggest a long weekend trip to this charming spot in western North Carolina? Known for its high concentration of stellar restaurants and breweries, a lively arts community, and easy access to outdoor adventures (hello, Blue Ridge Parkway), a girls trip here can be as laid-back or packed to the gills as you wish. We recommend staying in the buzzy River Arts District (RAD), at the brand-new hotel The Radical . Its rooftop is one of the best spots in the city to watch the sunset while sipping on some fantastic cocktails.

This may not be the spot to travel to if you’re looking for a 9 p.m. bedtime, but if you’re ready for late-night dinners, bar-hopping until the early-morning hours, and days spent on the beach or taking in jaw-droppingly cool architecture, then the Spanish city of Barcelona is calling your name. Book rooms for you and the gal pals at the chic Almanac Barcelona . Not only does the hotel’s year-round rooftop bar Azimuth have stunning 360-degree views of the city, but the staff can also arrange for fun group activities like guided tapas tours.

Courtesy of brand The Loren

Courtesy of brand The Loren

With a flight time of less than three hours from many East Coast destinations, the sunny and chic island of Bermuda is one of our favorite picks for a quick girls trip. And since the island is north of the Caribbean, there’s no rainy season, making it an appealing pick for typical shoulder-season months. The beaches here are probably the biggest draw, and for good reason: They’re actually pink-sanded and the water is impossibly clear. Snag rooms for your party at The Loren : We love this beachfront property’s Sisley Spa and open-air meals at The Pink Beach Club.

Buenos Aires

30 Best GirlsTrip Destinations for 2024

A strong dollar against the Argentine peso makes this South American capital an especially savvy trip idea for you and your best friends. But even without the financial incentive, there are few cities in the world that offer the same jubilant mix of beautiful neighborhoods, innovative food and drink, and storied history as this one. Treat yourself and your friends to a stay at Palacio Duhau Park Hyatt Buenos Aires , a hotel housed inside a landmarked palace that’s surrounded by a gorgeous garden. And make sure to leave time to check out the on-site Ahin Wellness Spa : You’ll need it after a night of tango.

The Berkshires

30 Best GirlsTrip Destinations for 2024

Unplugging more your speed? Then we recommend a rejuvenating girls weekend getaway to the Berkshires, a bucolic and beautiful part of Western Massachusetts. While you can certainly day-trip to the area’s many charming small towns (Great Barrington, North Adams, and Stockbridge, to start), make lively Lenox your home base. Reserve rooms at the über-chic Life House Berkshires , where communal spaces include a cozy library lounge, wood-paneled cocktail bar, and gorgeous hiking trails all minutes from the lobby.

30 Best GirlsTrip Destinations for 2024

If your pals are adrenaline junkies, there may be no better place on earth to get your heart thumping than the outdoor playground that is Costa Rica. From otherworldly hikes in cloud forests to riding the waves in Tamarindo to sky-high zip-lining, this Central American country is perfect for an adventurous girls trip. But at the end of the day, you can still relax in style: Snag a reservation at the adults-only Hotel Three Sixty . The 12-villa property is ideal for large groups and we love its secluded location inside a 58-acre rainforest reserve.

30 Best GirlsTrip Destinations for 2024

Colorado’s capital is one of our favorite cities in the West because, depending on what season you visit, it’s like hanging out in an entirely new town. Come with friends in the winter, and you should obviously take advantage of the city’s proximity to the many ski mountains. But in the warmer months, you can enjoy everything from white-water rafting to cycling to rock climbing. In the evenings, relax at one of Denver’s famed breweries before tucking in for the night at the playful Curtis Hotel , which has themed rooms and unique packages . Pro tip: You’re definitely going to want to reserve the Barbie suite for you and the girls.

Dominican Republic

30 Best GirlsTrip Destinations for 2024

With direct flights from most major East Coast and many Midwestern cities, this tropical paradise wins bonus points for how easy it is to get to. And of course, once you arrive, the pristine beaches and 18 national parks will make leaving the island a tall order. We recommend staying in Punta Cana, at the easternmost tip of the country. The beaches here are especially stunning, and the airport is less than 20 minutes away. Our favorite property for a ladies-only vacation? The high-touch boutique hotel Eden Roc Cap Cana , where many suites boast their own private pool, and the delicious food is some of the best in the Caribbean.

30 Best GirlsTrip Destinations for 2024

This Scottish capital packs a punch in a small package. A girls getaway here could encompass a climb to Arthur’s Seat, the extinct volcano with beautiful views of the city, golf, and a stroll through the postcard-perfect Water of Leith Walkway. But leave your nights open for experiencing the city’s nightlife (especially the whiskey scene). Snag splurge rooms at The Balmoral , one of the city’s most famous properties, and make sure you leave time in the itinerary to check out its famed afternoon tea and the killer spa, which has both a Turkish steam room and a Finnish sauna. Plus, there's nothing cuter than Highland cows.

30 Best GirlsTrip Destinations for 2024

There’s a reason Finland has been voted the happiest country in the world for many years running: You feel healthier as soon as you land in the Helsinki airport. What makes this European city great for a bachelorette party or girls trip? Aside from the friendly Finns: the underrated yet spectacular restaurant scene that’s fit for foodies; epic boutique shopping; and where else can you hang out all afternoon sipping on Finnish Long Drink and alternating between sauna sweats and ice-cold dips in the river? Make sure to book a stay at the brand-new Hotel Maria , which opens this December. It features a tightly curated on-site boutique, spa suites with their own saunas, and craft cocktails with live piano music at Bar Maria.

Hudson Valley, New York

30 Best GirlsTrip Destinations for 2024

Just a few hours’ road trip from New York City and Boston is this stretch of bucolic farmland and picture-perfect hamlets, ideal for a weekend filled with farm-to-table eats, mountain hikes, and nights around a bonfire. One of the most popular resorts for a girls getaway in the Hudson Valley is the newish Wildflower Farms, Auberge Resorts Collection . Here activities range from requisite hiking and fitness classes but also encompass much more unique offerings, like focaccia-making workshops, sound baths, and daily feeding of the on-property chickens.

Island of Hawaii

30 Best GirlsTrip Destinations for 2024

Close your eyes and picture your perfect island vacation: Is there any chance it wasn’t Hawaii? And while all of the islands offer their own unique, compelling reasons for visiting, we’ve been lately drawn most to the Big Island, known as the “island of adventure.” A trip here can include everything from swimming with manta rays, lying on black-sand beaches, and getting up close and personal with active volcanoes. Make Four Seasons Resort Hualalai your home base: Unique experiences to share with your besties include a jaw-dropping swimmable aquarium, paddling in an outrigger canoe, and traditional lomi-lomi massages at the dreamy spa.

30 Best GirlsTrip Destinations for 2024

At eightish hours from most East Coast cities, a long weekend trip to Lisbon isn’t as crazy as you might think. And once you’re on the ground, the pedestrian-friendly capital is quite easy to explore even if you’re short on time. Spend your days wandering trendy neighborhoods like Bairro Alto, Príncipe Real, and Cais do Sodré, and your nights feasting on seafood and shellfish, before toasting with the sour-cherry liqueur ginjinha. Post up at NAU Palacio do Governador , a boutique hotel with multiple heated swimming pools, charming rooms with barrel-vaulted ceilings, and a location right in the historic center of the Belem neighborhood.

30 Best GirlsTrip Destinations for 2024

This capital city needs no real introduction but remains one of our favorites for an international girls trip for its high number of direct flights, English-speaking citizens, and those adorable double-decker buses. And if you’ve got a group of gal pals with disparate interests, we promise London offers something for everyone: world-class theater in the West End, epic shopping in Shoreditch and Notting Hill, and a pub and cocktail culture that puts basically every American city to shame. We love staying at 11 Cadogan Gardens : Not only is its location in Chelsea incredibly central, but the back entrance to the hotel opens up onto Pavilion Road, one of the best stretches in the city for a fabulous brunch. And as far as hospitality is concerned, the equally ideally located Mayfair Townhouse can't be beat. The stunning hotel has one of the best concierges in town just in case one of the girls dropped the ball on your dinner reservations.

Los Angeles

30 Best GirlsTrip Destinations for 2024

When most of the continental USA dips into chilly temperatures, it’s a comfort to know that Southern California will almost always be positively balmy. But this glittering West Coast city has far more to recommend it than just its sunny clime: Some of the country’s hottest restaurants, bars, and boutique shopping are here, not to mention plenty of gorgeous urban trails. If you’re looking to relax and unplug, this is not the trip for you, but if you and your girls want to squeeze every last drop out of your vacation days, we can think of no better city. Grab reservations at W Los Angeles West Beverly Hills and make sure to reserve poolside cabanas for you and the crew before starting your night with cocktails at the buzzy Living Room Bar.

Mexico City

30 Best GirlsTrip Destinations for 2024

You could spend a year in this sprawling capital city, also known as CDMX, and still not uncover all of its charms. But that also means that even in the span of a weeklong vacation, there is a lot to pack in every day, from taking a street-food tour to watching Mexican wrestling and touring Frida Kahlo’s home. We recommend making the vibrant Condesa or Roma neighborhood your home base, which is filled with some of the city’s top boutiques, coffee shops, and restaurants. We’re big fans of Colima 71 , a new boutique property in Roma Norte with rooms boasting full kitchens and private balconies.

30 Best GirlsTrip Destinations for 2024

Another excellent choice for when you need to escape freezing temperatures is the fun-filled playground that is Miami. If you’re looking for a trip heavy on the nightlife, spend your evenings in South Beach, but don’t overlook Wynwood, which lays claim to many of the city’s hottest restaurants, boutiques, and breweries. We love not only the central location of The Miami Beach Edition but its two pools with ocean views, the basement bowling alley, and beachfront restaurant Tropicale.

Napa Valley, California

30 Best GirlsTrip Destinations for 2024

Yes, you absolutely can take a trip to Napa just for wine tasting, but we promise there’s far more to do in this gorgeous swatch of Northern California than just visit one of the more than 400 wineries. Your food-obsessed friends, for one, will probably want to hit up at least one of the Michelin-starred restaurants in wine country (The French Laundry, anyone?), while anyone in your posse who’s a wellness guru will enjoy a day trip to Calistoga’s mineral springs or mud baths. And everyone on your girls trip will appreciate the pampering at Stanly Ranch, Auberge Resorts Collection . We especially love the wellness services here, which range from cedar and steam saunas to private yoga classes and deep-tissue bodywork.

30 Best GirlsTrip Destinations for 2024

Some of the best food in the South, live music everywhere you turn, and lots and lots of whiskey: What’s not to love about the capital of Tennessee? Spend your mornings brunching at spots like Henrietta Red or the rooftop at White Limozeen, and your nights exploring why they call this town Music City. Catch songwriter shows at The Bluebird Cafe and 3rd and Lindsley, or the bigger names at Grand Ole Opry and the Ryman Auditorium. We absolutely adore Bobby Hotel in downtown Nashville: Its rooftop pool and lounge is one of the best spots to start or end your night. If low-key Southern is more your speed, we also recommend a road trip to The Harpeth Hotel in nearby and charming Franklin.

New York City

30 Best GirlsTrip Destinations for 2024

The City That Never Sleeps is a good match for any girls vacation when you plan, well, staying out late. But aside from NYC’s famous bars and lounges, this is also paradise for anyone who loves boutique or vintage shopping and really (really) good meals. Make time to explore charming downtown Manhattan neighborhoods like the Lower East Side and the cobblestone streets of the West Village, and cross the river to check out top spots in Brooklyn, like Williamsburg, Greenpoint, and DUMBO. But if you want a true taste of that New York bustling energy, it’s worth swinging by Times Square for a Broadway show or booking a stay at the Hard Rock Hotel New York .

Nevis, Saint Kitts and Nevis

30 Best GirlsTrip Destinations for 2024

This island in the Lesser Antilles has had a bigger profile since Hamilton premiered (Alexander Hamilton was born here), but it’s high on our list for girls-trip destinations for a more current reason. JetBlue launched a new, direct flight from New York to the country this fall, making it that much easier to escape to the island’s clear waters and gorgeous beaches. Snag rooms for your and the gal pals at Four Seasons Resort Nevis : a dreamy hotel with nearly three miles of beachfront, four pickleball courts, and programming like rum tasting or monkey spotting tours.

Palm Springs, California

30 Best GirlsTrip Destinations for 2024

While we certainly don’t recommend a trip to the desert in the height of summer, there are few places more delicious than Palm Springs in the depths of winter. Start your day off with a ride on the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway for stunning views of the city, then get your dose of vitamin D with a hike on the Andreas Canyon Trail at Indian Canyons. And since this part of California is all about midcentury modern (it's one of the more Instagrammable cities), book rooms at the retro-chic Ace Hotel and Swim Club . We love the deep bench of activities at this property, from weekly bingo and trivia nights to live jazz and dinner series. And when you need to cool off, don’t miss the boozy slushies from on-site cocktail bar the Amigo Room.

30 Best GirlsTrip Destinations for 2024

The City of Love isn’t just for your, well, lover. It’s also one of the most lively and beautiful trips you can take with your girls (and a major bucket list destination). From days spent wandering the Marais’s unparalleled shopping to nights exploring some of the world’s most innovative restaurants, a trip to Paris can bring a twinkle to anyone’s eye, including your hard-to-please foodie friend and the art history buffs among you. One of the city’s buzziest new hotels is also perfect for a girls trip: Hôtel Des Grands Voyageurs is a charming, high-design boutique property in Saint-Placide that also houses one of the Left Bank’s coolest speakeasies, Poppy.

Puerto Rico

30 Best GirlsTrip Destinations for 2024

Hungry for a tropical getaway but not all your ladies got their passports renewed in time? Trust us, we’ve been there. Luckily, one of the best destinations in the Caribbean is a US territory. And Puerto Rico, at only two and a half hours from Miami, is also one of the easiest islands to travel to if you’ve got limited time. It’s also packed with things to do, from the famed bioluminescent bay to rainforest hikes and more than 300 beaches. We recommend reserving the adults-only Condado Ocean Club in San Juan: Oceanfront bar Sandbox is the perfect spot to start your night, and we love relaxing at the infinity pool with views of the Atlantic.

Punta de Mita, Mexico

30 Best GirlsTrip Destinations for 2024

There may be no international destination more popular for girls trips than America’s dynamic neighbor to the south: Mexico. And while we could write a whole article just on places to go within that country, for this list, we’re going with our perennial favorite of Punta de Mita. Easily accessible from Puerto Vallarta, this sun-drenched peninsula is known for its silky white-sand beaches, über-chill vibes, and stellar hotel properties. We recommend the Conrad Punta de Mita : a secluded and tranquil resort with four pools, two miles of beach, and activities like whale watching and sailing.

Reykjavik, Iceland

30 Best GirlsTrip Destinations for 2024

While beach vacations or major city explorations might be the more popular options for vacations with your girls, if you’re feeling a little more adventurous, we’d love to suggest the otherworldly landscape in and around Reykjavik. Iceland’s capital is less than a six-hour flight from many major East Coast cities, and its wealth of activities are certainly not excursions that are easy to find in the US. In the winter you can try to time your visit to see the Northern Lights, while the Blue Lagoon offers blissful soaking any time of year. Post up at The Reykjavik Edition , a modern hotel steps from the city’s main shopping area of Laugavegur Street with chic rooms with floor-to-ceiling views of the bustling city.

Savannah, Georgia

30 Best GirlsTrip Destinations for 2024

There are few cities in America more beautiful, charming, and fun than Savannah. And while you could certainly spend a whole weekend just ogling the stunning mansions and wandering through the city’s verdant gardens, it’s also home to some of the South’s best restaurants, bars, and boutiques. And only 20 minutes away lies Tybee Island, a laid-back beach town that’s a perfect addition to a long-weekend trip. Our favorite property in the city is Perry Lane Hotel : We love its location in the Historic District, the unique cocktails at on-site bar The Wayward, and—pro tip—that you can throw private tea parties in the hotel’s library.

Turks and Caicos

30 Best GirlsTrip Destinations for 2024

If your friends are craving white-sand beaches, water sports, and minimal flight time, then there is really only one answer: Turks and Caicos. These islands located in the Lucayan Archipelago boast some of the world’s most beautiful stretches of sand (Grace Bay is the most famous), along with plenty of prime spots for snorkeling, kayaking, and parasailing. The British Overseas Territory is also home to some of the best resorts in the region, including The Somerset on Grace Bay . With a superb location on the beach, other perks at this hotel include gargantuan suites perfect for sharing with pals, kiteboarding lessons, and private spa experiences for you and your friends.

Washington, DC

30 Best GirlsTrip Destinations for 2024

Sure, our nation’s capital is fun for history buffs, but even if you don’t set foot on The Mall, DC is a vibrant, exciting place all on its own. And in recent years the city has seriously upped its game when it comes to food and drink. Just take a look around The Wharf and Navy Yard, two neighborhoods that have fast become meccas for innovative dining and buzzy cocktails. One of our new favorite hotels is right in the heart of it all too. Pendry Washington DC has beautiful views of the water; one of the city’s best rooftop cocktail bars, Moonraker; and, when the weather is right, a sleek outdoor pool, complete with cabanas.

EXPLORING THE PICTURESQUE STREETS OF KYOTO IN JAPAN

Amanda twine – fly stay luxe.

I recently took a spontaneous trip to Japan with a girlfriend of mine, Faustine , whom I’d met on a luxury retreat in Bali organized by Travel Girls Getaways . Faustine and I clicked immediately and have since been on two overseas trips together. Kyoto was an absolutely perfect choice for a girl’s getaway, so much so, that I’m considering going back to spend Sakura season with my mum.

If it’s your first visit to Japan, I highly recommend you make a beeline for Kyoto, as it’s one of the oldest and most picturesque cities in Japan. We visited shrines, temples, Zen gardens and of course, ate some amazing Japanese food. We wandered around the Nishiki Food Markets, ate lunch by the river, went running through Fushimi Inari’s iconic orange Torii gates, and fed the deer in Nara.

If you’re looking for something fun and unique to do in Kyoto, hire kimonos and spend the day wandering around the picturesque streets of Gion, imagining you lived in the pre-World War II Geisha era. And if you’re lucky, you might get to see a real Geisha or Maiko on their way to work.

VISIT LAPLAND, FINLAND FOR A NIGHT IN AN IGLOO

Becky van dijk – we are travel girls & becky van dijk.

My all-time favourite girls getaway was to Lapland, Finland with a group of four girls in the deep of winter. Whilst this trip is without doubt a splurge, sleeping in a glass igloo beneath the Northern Lights and staying in an Ice Hotel is truly a once in a lifetime experience.

What makes Lapland a great girls getaway? Well, on arrival you sledge together to your igloo; during the day you can take adventures on snowmobiles through the snow-covered forests; your evenings are spent warming up in the sauna or even a hot tub together under the stars; and finally, to finish of your days you can’t beat snuggling up for a glass of hot wine and a girls gossip in the bar.

During my trip to Lapland, we stayed at Kakslauttanen Arctic Village in a four-person glass igloo. In addition to these famous glass igloos you can stay in a large log cabin if you are a larger group of girls travelling together. We had so much fun drinking in the igloo bar and then sledging with glasses of wine (probably not actually allowed) back to our own igloo each evening!

After all the fun at Kakslauttanen we went onwards to Ivalo to stay at the Arctic Snow Hotel . Here we got to sleep for a night under the ice, drink in the dome shaped ice bar and have our meal in a full ice restaurant.

You can read my full Lapland guide and 5-day itinerary for this perfect girls getaway.

ADMIRING THE STUNNING CITY OF RAJASTHAN, INDIA

Inka creswell – inka creswell.

If you are looking for pure adventure on your next girl’s getaway there are few places that compare to the stunning cities of Rajasthan India.

I first travelled to India when I was twenty with my best friend. Despite concerns about being two young girls travelling alone through India it was the most incredible experience which I cannot recommend enough.

Whether you choose to explore the beautiful blue streets of Jodhpur, take a stroll around the stunning lakes surrounding Udaipur, look for hidden gems in the markets of Jaipur or take a midnight camel ride through the deserts of Pushkar you are guaranteed to have the trip of a lifetime.

This stunning country is full of endless opportunities for adventure, abundant with stunning fortresses and palaces and with streets full of curious monkeys this city break is like no other and is guaranteed to leave you full of wanderlust.

SURFING & HIKING IN THE CHANNEL ISLANDS OF JERSEY

Ellie quinn – the wandering quinn.

‘The Channel Island of Jersey is a great place to go for a girl’s getaway, I should know, I’ve been twice with 2 different girlfriends!

From the UK it’s so easy to get to which makes it a perfect weekend break and once you’re there, the size of the island makes it easy to get around which is good because there is so much to do in Jersey!

I spent one-weekend Surfing, out on a boat trip spotting Dolphins and exploring the beaches with one friend. The next time I visited, we went walking along the many hiking trails that line the islands impressive coastline and explored the city of St Helier.

Jersey is known for its food and I can see why, it’s all so delicious, especially if you eat seafood. But even if you don’t, it’s still world class. From shopping, spas, historic monuments and many more water sports, there are so many ways in which Jersey can be enjoyed.

SKI IN THE SPECTACULAR AUSTRIAN ALPS

Vanessa rivers – we are travel girls & glitter and mud.

If you’re looking for this perfect girls getaway destination for winter 2020 you should consider booking a ski trip to the Austrian Alps! The Austrian Alps are gorgeous, affordable, safe, and offer epic spring skiing conditions.

Last March, We Are Travel Girls Founders Becky van Dijk and Vanessa Rivers hosted an Austrian Alps Ski Retreat ! During this amazing week in the snow we indulged in spa treatments, unlimited yoga classes, gourmet dining, après-ski parties, and of course excellent skiing – all from our luxury ski-in / ski-out eco accommodations in the breathtaking Austrian Alps.

All skill levels welcome! Grab your bestie and or come solo and make new, amazing girlfriends!

EXPLORING LISBON’S CULTURE AND FOOD SCENE

Christine wheeler – live love run travel.

Lisbon, Portugal is full of rich culture and history, amazing food, and Instagrammable locations and is a great place to visit with your girlfriends!

Start early to enjoy the sunrise at Miradouro de Santa Luzia or the nearby Portas do Sol. And you can’t miss Jeronimo’s Monastery and Belem Tower. Most attractions are open from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Make sure to visit Rua Augusta to see the famous arch early. But I recommend you go to Pink Street a little later in the morning after it has been cleaned up from the parties the night before.

Take some time to admire the tilework in the Alfama district and Bairro Alto – you can take the elevadores if you’re tired from all that walking.

On your trip, budget in an extra day (or two) for visiting the castles and palaces of Sintra. Located less than an hour away, you will be transported back in time with the grand structures like Pena Palace and Quinta de Regaleira.

MARGARITAS & BEACHES IN TULUM, MEXICO

Michelle halpern – live like it’s the weekend.

My favorite girl’s getaway this year was without a doubt to Tulum, Mexico for a friend’s bachelorette party.

Tulum is one of those destinations that can be both super low key and easy and also a little wild when it needs to be! There’s everything you could need there for a home run girls trip, from beautiful beaches and flowing margaritas to relaxing spas, great shopping and epic jungle parties.

We spent lazy mornings getting a local brunch in town (Tulum has some of the best restaurants!) before making our way to the beach to work on our tans.

If you’re looking for the best places to grab dinner and cocktail with your girlfriends, don’t miss Rosa Negra, Azulik, Gitano’s (they have epic Friday night parties) and Posada Margherita. Then head to Papaya Playa Project for a fun night of dancing to jungle beats on the beach. It’s an absolute must do trip!

To plan the perfect trip be sure to read our favorite Airbnbs in Tulum !

SHOPPING, DINING & GLAMPING IN MOROCCO

Alexandra saper – the wayfaress.

For unique experiences catering to many different travel preferences, look no further than Marrakech. The cultural enthusiast will love walking through the medieval medina, ancient mosques and palaces, and lively food stalls in the Jemaa El-Fnaa Square.

For the artists and shopaholics of the group, there’s no better place to find the widest selection and highest quality Moroccan handicrafts — from colorful rugs to hand-welded lanterns and jewelry, to unique leather goods, and more.

The foodies will be thrilled to find world-renowned restaurants serving some of the best cuisine in the country. The luxury-lovers will swoon at the palatial riads (traditional Moroccan homes with iconic central courtyards) that you can call “home” during your stay. And for those looking for a bit of adventure, the Sahara Desert’s sprawling golden dunes are nearby, for a couple nights of glamping, camel rides, ATV excursions, and dining under the stars.

ACTION PACKED ADVENTURES IN NORTHERN NORWAY

Alyssa ramos – my life’s a travel movie.

If your friends are as adventurous as you are, plan an epic trip to  Northern Norway  during the winter months for a badass girl’s getaway! Who says adrenaline activities are for boys? Grab your girls and jump on some snowmobiles as you race across the frozen tundra, passing three country borders on the way to the meeting point of Norway, Sweden, and Finland!

Next, stop by an authentic reindeer farm for some furry friend selfies and insight to the indigenous culture.

Last but not least, layer on ALL your clothes and head out in the middle of the night to chase the  Northern Lights ! Literally, nothing is more magical!

A ROAD TRIP THROUGH AUSTRALIA’S RED CENTRE

Sarah & amy todhunter – mooski adventures.

Thinking of where to take a memorable trip with the girls? Somewhere different and a bit more magical?

Then look no further than Australia’s ‘Red Centre’!

This place is unlike any other, you will fill your days soaking up the Indigenous Australian culture, one of the Oldest Living Cultures in the World. You’ll also marvel over natural phenomenons, watching the sunrise and set over ancient landscapes, and sleeping under a sky full of stars.

With something to suit everyone – you can either bike, Segway or even Skydive Uluru. Try hiking through Kata Tjuta (Uluru’s bigger brother), or take a dip in the refreshing waterholes and gorges in the West and East MacDonnell Ranges. Or, if you’re up for a detour, the Kings Canyon Rim Walk is an absolute must-do!

There are many ways to experience this beautiful region, but the best way is to hire a car and start road-tripping through endless outback colours in every shade of red, orange and yellow!

Follow Sarah & Amy’s travels on Instagram   or Facebook .

GO ON SAFARI IN SOUTH AFRICA

Sarah louise – sarah’s trek.

Although we do love a horizontal holiday on the beach, my girlfriends and I tend to get restless after day one, which is where an active getaway ticks all the boxes. Flying to Johannesburg, then driving up to Kruger National Park, ensures road trip vibes and plenty of opportunity for carpool karaoke!

You can choose to stay in a lodge together, and spend mornings spotting elephants in the bush, lunch by the pool and evenings clinking bubbles or tracking hyenas.

A safari also offers daily flexibility for the group – if some of the group are feeling fragile from the previous night they can miss the morning game drive, whilst others can sign up for extras like hiking or a walking safari.

Best friends + elephants = a getaway you will never forget!

DANCE THE NIGHT AWAY IN CABO SAN LUCAS

Christina vidal – jetset christina.

There’s nowhere quite like Cabo for a girls getaway. The surreal setting at the tip of Baja California combined with world-class all-inclusive hotels, delicious Mexican food, a great nightlife, and days filled with sunshine and margaritas make it tough to beat this Mexican paradise.

And, if that’s not enough to convince you, a flight down to Cabo from the USA is usually only a couple of hours (and direct from many places), and villas and even all-inclusive hotels in the city can be really reasonable, making it a great excuse to get away for a few days, without breaking the bank.

With a group, you’re going to want to stay near Medano Beach, the heart and soul of Cabo San Lucas, and at night head to El Squid Roe for some dancing.

A SCENIC TOUR AROUND THE FAROE ISLANDS

Phoebe kenny – kaptain kenny travel.

A couple of months ago I returned from the trip of a lifetime to the Faroe Islands, where I met a lovely girl, Lauren . During the month of October, in the short space of seven days, together we left Earth. Momentarily of course. We visited another planet and returned with Faroese tales.

For me, ‘the trip of a lifetime’ means that I am alone, discovering a new place without too many tourists to contend with. The Faroe Islands taught me that the landscape on Earth can be so impressive and all-consuming that it’s even possible to feel small and insignificant among its grandeur. It’s funny how a mountain can teach you to stop sweating the small stuff.

After hitting the road with the car, the trip soon became a classic sense of ‘let’s go get lost’ and drive, baby. We followed our loins and well, it was a pretty good first try.

After chasing the scenic routes, the landscape went from being slightly mountainous and a rich auburn brown to being foggy, mystical and dark green. We took many a swift turn to just sit absorbing it all, listening to Ludovico Einaudi. After such a long and arduous journey, it was lovely to be rewarded with some spectacular Mother Nature.

It was at this very point that we knew the next seven days were going to be unforgettable and full of colour, life, and adventure. Not only because we had found paradise, but because we were experiencing it together. We weren’t wrong. The Faroe Islands delivered.

Travel Shop Girl Is Back! 2021 New Beginnings

Happy New Year!

Perhaps you’ve been wondering where Travel Shop Girl has been. I know I’ve been wondering that as well. First let me say, “Happy New Year!” For 2021 I’m going to strive to be a different person. How? By doing something that until now I realize I have avoided at all costs. I’m talking about transparency. I’m going to try to share all of me with my readers no matter how difficult it may be to do.

So what exactly happened to me? After my amazing world cruise , I went back to Boston a completely different person. It wasn’t anything in particular that changed me, but I was different. Unfortunately, one of the changes that had to happen in my life was that I knew my marriage was coming to an end. Our divorce was finalized in September of 2020.

Although I wasn’t writing on my blog or updating social media, I was still traveling and trying to find my new normal. I traveled to the Philippines numerous times and made countless new friendships that I will treasure forever. While in the Philippines, I traveled to many exciting places in the Philippines as well as Thailand, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Bali, and Vietnam. I look forward to sharing with you many stories and images from those trips as they were healing and happy trips for me.

girl shopping travel

While I don’t know what the future holds for me, I’m taking life one day at a time. I’ve always felt like a gypsy or a nomad, which makes life on the road the perfect life for me. I moved to New York in 2019 and in September 2020 I made the big move to Los Angeles. Of course, living abroad is always my number one goal, but I want to find somewhere that will make me happy at least for a while especially during this crazy pandemic.

So here’s to a happy and productive year and to 2021 new beginnings ! Let me know what you’ve been doing and I certainly plan to keep writing here on the blog because I’ve missed it so much.

Schooner Heritage in the water

Living in New England, Maine has become my go-to girls’ weekend getaway destination, especially for my friends that love the outdoors and adventure as much as I do! My friend Kim and I have spent a girl’s trip relaxing at a cabin in Moosehead Lake . Our days were filled with hiking, moose safaris, naps, and laughter while our evenings were spent reading, talking, cooking, and drinking wine together.

My friend Tracy and I took a trip from Portland, Maine to the Inn at Diamond Cove . After enjoying lobster and shopping in Portland, we took the ferry to Great Diamond Island for a relaxing and car-free stay. We spent our days exploring the island, searching for sea glass, and relaxing on private beaches and our evenings enjoying fine dining and beautiful sunsets.

This past summer, my friend Michelle and I had a unique adventure on the Schooner Heritage , a Maine Windjammer that cruises out of Rockland, Maine. We made friends with fellow passengers, helped the crew raise and lower the sails, and enjoyed the scenic views of the Maine coast — topped off with an authentic Maine lobster bake on a deserted beach.

Whether you prefer mountains and lakes or Maine’s rocky coast, there is a unique girls’ trip location waiting for you in Maine.

2. Fort Wayne, Indiana

Fort Wayne Indiana Promenade Park from the water

Fort Wayne has two big claims to fame — Vera Bradley and the Genealogy Center, which is the nation’s second-largest genealogy collection, and a great place to research family history. Yes, the Vera Bradley Annual Outlet Sale is a great time to visit and shop on a girl’s trip, but there is plenty more to enjoy in Fort Wayne for a weekend getaway.

Start off by renting kayaks, bikes, or paddle boards from Fort Wayne Outfitters and explore the riverfront in Promenade Park. Afterward, check out The Landing neighborhood, which used to be where canal boats docked to unload goods. In this new food and entertainment district, you can fill up at The Landing Beer Company or enjoy farm-to-fork dining at Tolon. Fort Wayne is also home to one of the largest Burmese populations outside of Thailand so you may want to sample authentic Burmese dishes at restaurants like Mahnin.

Your gal pals will also love searching out some of the murals that are part of Fort Wayne’s growing public art scene, shopping at great downtown boutiques, and sampling the goods at DeBrand Fine Chocolates.

Where to stay: Fort Wayne’s new boutique hotel — The Bradley , which was created in partnership between Vera Bradley co-founder, Barbara Bradley Baekgaard, and Provenance Hotels.

3. Glacier Country, Montana

2 women with 2 llamas on llama trek

If you are looking for an outdoor adventure combined with cute towns, local breweries and distilleries, and one-of-a-kind adventures, head to Glacier Country in Western Montana. My friend Keryn and I recently came back from a Montana girlfriend getaway and we had the best time just reconnecting and enjoying nature.

From the epic views of Glacier National Park to the lesser-trod gems like the Kootenai Falls and Suspension Bridge or Ross Creek Cedars, you won’t run out of room or fun ways to get outdoors. A highlight of our trip was getting to try llama trekking and I’m convinced this is the best way to hike!

Where to stay: For a short stay, fly in and out of Missoula and stay at the Residence Inn Missoula downtown where you can walk to cute boutiques, restaurants, day spas, and cocktail bars. For a small-town setting, book a cabin at Bridge Street Cottages in Big Fork, Montana.

4. Franklin, Tennessee

Three women holding wine at a picnic table in a vineyard taking a selfie with a phone

Just a half-hour south of Nashville lies the cutest little downtown with a great American Main Street that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. There is a reason the town has appeared in so many Hallmark movies! In downtown Franklin, you will find unique shops, restaurants, antique stores, entertainment, and the arts. It is also a great spot to explore Civil War history or take some tasting tours at local distilleries on a day trip along the Masters & Makers Trail.

If you want to stay active, try paddle boarding on the Harpeth River, bike out to Leiper’s Fork, or challenge yourself at the SOAR Adventure Park.  Nearby you can also explore sections of the Natchez Trace Parkway, a 444-mile “All American” national scenic byway, which follows the course of the ancient trace traveled for centuries by tradesmen and Native Americans from Natchez, Mississippi to Nashville, Tennessee.

A photo with your friends in front of the double arch bridge is the perfect memento for your trip. Be sure to check out the Visit Franklin website to see if you can coordinate your visit with any of the area’s fun festivals or events.

Where to stay: The Harpeth Franklin Downtown , a Curio Collection by Hilton property, which is just steps away from Main Street.

5. El Paso, Texas

Women standing in front of blue wall with cowboy boots and hands on hips

El Paso, Texas is one of those unexpected spots for a girls’ getaway. I visited with my friend Kim a few years ago and it was great because she was coming from the West Coast and I was from the East Coast, so we got to meet somewhat in the middle and experience something new. It was a fun mix of adventure, eating, drinking, and shopping in the American Southwest.

You can’t miss browsing at some of the boot factory outlets around town. We even had a chance to watch some of the master bookmakers in action at the Lucchese factory before I snagged a new pair of snazzy boots.

We also explored downtown and had fun with our Instagram poses in front of the many murals. I developed a fondness for all things green chili, while we slugged down margaritas the size of our heads and steaks the size of a platter. Don’t worry, we worked some of it off hiking in Franklin Mountain State Park (even did a little spelunking!) and off-roading at Red Sands, where I learned I’m terrible at driving an ATV. To chill out, we popped into nearby New Mexico for some wine tasting at local wineries.

Where to stay : Hotel Indigo was perfect for a girl’s trip with a rooftop pool and bar and lots of local flair.

6. Buffalo, New York

Buffalo NY RiverWorks boats on lake and Pabst Blue Ribbon stacks

If you love a destination with a great urban transformation story, it is time to check out Buffalo, New York. In recent years, Buffalo has redeveloped its waterfront and revitalized neighborhoods with over $1 billion in new investment. History lovers can explore the robust history of this region, from its original Senecan inhabitants to its time as the Gateway to the West on the Eerie Canal, to its critical role in the Underground Railroad. Once home to many wealthy industrialists, the city has a number of Frank Lloyd Wright homes and restored architecture.

What may really surprise you is the city’s rising prominence as a foodie destination. Famous for the spicy wings first introduced at the Anchor Bar, there are many other “ must eat” foods in Buffalo, from sponge candy to beef on weck sandwiches. Follow the many food trails, experience the international flavors brought to the city by immigrants from Southeast Asia and Africa, and check out some of the city’s burgeoning craft beer purveyors. Read about my recent girls’ trip to Buffalo !

Where to stay: Hotel at the Lafayette is a boutique hotel built in 1904. This landmark French Renaissance-style hotel was designed by Louise Blanchard Bethune, the first American female architect, making it perfect for a girls’ weekend.

7. Oceanside, California

girl shopping travel

If you are looking for a SoCal beach getaway, skip the tourist spots and head to Oceanside. Located between LA and San Diego, you can even access Oceanside on the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner train for a car-free trip. This beach town has a laid-back vibe with gorgeous beaches, a historic wooden pier, a quaint New England-style harbor, and charming bungalow neighborhoods.

You can explore surf culture at the California Surf Museum, or take a surf lesson and catch some waves yourselves. O’side (as locals affectionately call it), is a perfect spot for outdoor adventures from paddle boarding and biking to bucket list activities like sky diving and helicopter tours. Movie fans will get a kick out of seeing the Top Gun house, while shopping aficionados will enjoy strolling through The Rising Co., a fun makers space/co-op with several noteworthy local artisans such as Rais Case, which makes handmade leather goods. Read about my recent Southern California girls’ trip to Oceanside!

Where to stay: Mission Pacific Hotel has a rooftop pool and a fun bohemian style, and ocean views, and is a fun alternative located in the heart of downtown is The Fin Hotel , part of the Tapestry Collection by Hilton. This 26-room boutique hotel is in a historic building with many of the original architectural and design details, but modernized rooms.

8. Outer Banks, North Carolina

Coquina Beach in Rodanthe NC looking through the dunes at the ocean

The beach house rentals available in the Outer Banks make it a perfect laid-back, girls’ trip destination for a large friend group. This was actually where I used to go with my college girlfriends back in my 20s, but it is still a perfect pick decades later. In addition to enjoying the beach and the Cape Hatteras National Seashore, you can get your thrills by trying out hang gliding off the 90-foot sand dunes at Jockey’s Ridge.

Seafood fans can explore the newly-launched North Carolina Oyster Trail, and then stop at a few of the local breweries. A visit to Roanoke will take you back to America’s earliest colonial history, and a climb to the top of America’s tallest brick lighthouse in Cape Hatteras will make a perfect photo opp to remember your trip.

Where to stay : Browse the vacation rental homes on vrbo .

9. Cincinnati, Ohio

Cincinnati skyline and bridge at sunset

The Queen City rises to the top of the list when considering the perfect midwest destination for a girlfriend getaway.  Situated along the scenic Ohio River, Cincinnati surprises visitors with an array of entertainment, an eclectic food scene, and plenty of lively happenings.

The first stop on any girlfriend getaway is Cincinnati’s historic neighborhood, Over-The-Rhine (OTR). This neighborhood has seen a massive transformation over the past decade, shaping it into today’s incredible destination. OTR is full of boutique shops, cocktail bars, craft breweries, and some of the city’s best food. Don’t miss favorites such as the Eagle’s fried chicken, a classic donut from Holtman’s, or gourmet tacos from Bakersfield.

Downtown, you will find the Aronoff Center for the Arts for those looking to catch a Broadway performance. Before you the show you can try to snag dinner reservations at nearby Sotto or Nada.

A girlfriend getaway is never complete without a mimosa or bloody mary! Cincinnati’s brunch scene is booming, offering creative dishes, and fresh local ingredients in an upbeat atmosphere.  Splurge on an exquisite brunch buffet at the Orchids of Palm Court or dine at a must-visit spot like Taste of Belgium. While the Taste of Belgium is known for its decant waffles, they also serve various traditional Belgium recipes with a twist.

Step into one of Cincinnati’s gorgeous museums and exhibits like the Cincinnati Art Museum in Eden Park, Cincinnati Museum Center at Union Terminal, and the Cincinnati Contemporary Arts Center.   Enhance your art experience by touring the city with a self-guided walking tour of the downtown Artworks Murals. While there are over 130 murals throughout the city’s regions, many popular ones are found downtown and  OTR. Cap off any visit to Cincinnati with a stroll along the lovely riverwalk at Smale Riverfront Park while enjoying a scoop of Graeter’s Ice Cream.

Where to stay: 21c Museum Hotel is located in the heart of the Queen City and this unique modern hotel offers a luxurious spa, a beautiful rooftop bar, and a contemporary art museum.

10. Providence, Rhode Island

View of Downtown Providence from the Pedestrian Bridge

The “Creative Capital” of the country’s smallest state is a great New England girls’ weekend destination . Perfect for foodies, you can spend your whole weekend seeking out the city’s best restaurants, breweries, food trucks, and pop-ups. Or, make it easy and take a food tour with Rhode Island Reds.

Get your exercise by biking the East Bay Bike Path, kayaking through downtown with Providence Kayaks, or climbing College Hill and finishing with a walk across the Pedestrian Bridge. The best boutique shopping is found on Westminster Street or in Wayland Square. For relaxation, book a treatment at the Bodhi hydrotherapy spa.

Where to stay: Hotel Providence is an ideal boutique hotel option in the heart of downtown, or pick the Dean Hotel for something funky. The new aLoft Providence also has a great location and a fun roof-top bar.

11. Door County, Wisconsin

If you want a unique destination for a girlfriend getaway, Kirsten from Kids are a Trip suggests heading to Door County, Wisconsin where you will find shopping, delicious food, and a wine trail, as well as countless outdoor adventures. Door County sits at the tip of a peninsula north of Green Bay. Surrounded by water on three sides, the peninsula is a dream getaway with breathtaking scenery, a thriving artist community, and endless opportunities for fun.

Door County is a popular Midwest summer and fall destination. The popular Door County Wine trail, which includes stops at eight local wineries, is a perfect part of a girls’ trip. There are cute local shops all over the peninsula, but take extra time to walk and explore downtown Fish Creek. It’s situated right on the water and there are some lovely restaurants. The historic White Gull Inn has a delicious French toast with cherry cream cheese filling that everyone should try once in their life.

Be sure to leave time to explore Door County’s five state parks where visitors can try everything from kayaking to exploring the island’s lighthouses (there are 11 of them). Your group should also make plans to attend a local fish boil. Door County was settled by Scandinavian immigrants and a fish boil was part of their culture. Many local restaurants prepare the fish according to traditional methods and tell stories along with the meal. It’s definitely a fun night out.

Door County also has a lavender farm (Washington Island), you-pick orchards (cherries and apples depending on the season), and seasonal festivals. There is truly something for everyone in Door County.

Where to stay: There are vacation rentals all over Door County, but consider choosing a place that is within walking distance of shops and amenities. Ephraim and Fish Creek are good choices. For a hotel stay consider Ashbrooke Hotel in Egg Harbor, Edgewater Resort in Ephraim, or White Gull Inn in Fish Creek.

12. Excelsior Springs, Missouri

The Elms hotel and pool at sunset

Back in its heyday in the late 1800s, Excelsior Springs drew hundreds of tourists and families hoping to drink or soak in the supposedly healing mineral waters from the dozens of springs and wells on the hillsides. The springs are long closed, but now the Missouri town near Kansas City is a relaxing destination for girlfriends who want a little pampering. Kim from Oh My! Omaha recommends the fabulous spa and accommodations at The Elms Hotel & Spa , a historic hotel.

The hotel’s lavish outdoor pool is an attraction in the summer, but the indoor spa is a year-round treat. The hotel’s spa is well known for The Grotto, think modern Roman bath with a steam sauna, cold plunge shower, steam shower, and an exfoliation bar. Within walking distance to the hotel, you can stop at a lively brewery called Dubious Claims and hit the shops, including the Willow Springs Mercantile, which features goods made by Missouri artisans.

If wine’s more of your crew’s style, visit the nearby wineries, like VanTill Family Farm & Winery or Fence Stile Winery, which offers private wine cave tours paired with candlelit wine tasting.

13. Tempe, Arizona

Kim Tate and Tamara Gruber hugging in front of mural in Tempe AZ

If you crave some desert sunshine and a great winter escape, head to Tempe, Arizona for a girls’ trip . This small city just outside of Phoenix is home to Arizona State University, so it has the energy of a college town with the amenities of a city. Hike up to “A” Mountain for a spectacular sunrise or sunset, kayak on Tempe Town Lake, e-bike through the city, and visit the Desert Botanical Gardens.

Make sure to enjoy some great tacos, take pictures by murals, and plan an adventure like hot air ballooning or horseback riding through the desert.

Where to stay: Tempe Mission Palms Hotel and Conference Center is a perfect spot for hiking A mountain or taking the light rail from the airport and it even has a rooftop pool (although only on the second floor.)  If you are looking for something on the trendier side, you will want to stay at either The Westin Tempe , with the tallest rooftop lounge and bar in the East Valley, or the Canopy by Hilton Tempe Downtown , which offers a rooftop pool for guests.

14. Finger Lakes, New York

Wine flight in front of a field

If your girlfriend group includes a few wine aficionados, skip Napa and head to the Finger Lakes Region in New York. Whether you stay in Ithaca or Watkins Glen on Seneca Lake , you have your choice of wine trails, state parks, and waterfalls.

Make sure you include a sunset cruise on the lake and a visit to a local farm to taste freshly-made cheeses, ice cream, or fresh produce. You can even visit an alpaca farm and take the animals for a stroll.

Where to stay: W atkins Glen Harbor Hotel is located right on Seneca Lake and offers beautiful views, yet is a short walk into downtown or Watkins Glen State Park.

15. Manchester, Vermont

If you want to explore country roads, charming towns, and beautiful scenery, a Vermont girls’ trip is just the thing. Stay in artsy Brattleboro, historic Bennington, shopping-central Manchester, or charming Woodstock. You will find ample hiking to help work off all the cheese, beer, and maple syrup you will sample along the way.

Where to stay: Kimpton Taconic Hotel in Manchester is within walking distance to the town’s many restaurants and shops, including my favorite the Northshire Bookstore. You will also find plenty of designer outlet shopping nearby.

16. Orange Beach, Alabama

Orange Beach girls trip - two women on beach

During spring break and the summer, Gulf Shores and Orange Beach are brimming with families. However, if you can go in the shoulder season, you can still enjoy the soft, white-sand beaches without the crowds (you just may not get much of a suntan.)

Off the water, you can fill your days indulging in the region’s tasty cuisine, visit a spa, or even make your own bath products. From dolphin watching to sunset catamarans, and paddle boards to kayaks, there are so many ways to enjoy Orange Beach. A girl’s trip wouldn’t be complete without an evening at the famous Flor-a-Bama bar.

Where to stay: Rent a condo overlooking the Gulf at Turquoise Place , complete with indoor pools and a lazy river.

17. St. Augustine, Florida

Tamara and Keryn at Flagler College on a St. Augustine girls weekend

For anyone seeking the fountain of youth (and aren’t well all?), head to St. Augustine, Florida for a girlfriend getaway . Located on Florida’s northeastern “Historic Coast”, is the oldest continuously-inhabited city in the United States so it is a great destination for history buffs, but the beach is also nearby.

Have fun exploring the charming downtown on a ghost tour, food tour, or trolley tour. You can also tour local distilleries or try local craft breweries to wash down all that yummy local food.

Where to stay: Stay downtown at the historic St. Francis Inn Bed and Breakfast to easily walk to all the local downtown attractions.

From beach vacations to city escapes, here are seven underrated girls trips to take this year.

Rulex O/Getty Images

There are few things in life quite as exciting as the moment when a girls trip actually makes it out of the group chat. Oftentimes, a trip falls apart before it even begins because the group can’t agree on where to go, so deciding on a destination for your vacation is half of the battle. There are typical girls trip hotspots like Miami or Nashville, but we’re here to show you where to go for a unique getaway that will have something for everyone in your circle. We’ve got details on the up-and-coming destinations for your next girls vacay, including what to see, where to eat and drink, and where to stay. Here are the best underrated destinations for your next girls trip.

Instead of Nashville, try Louisville.

benedek/Getty Images

Louisville is slowly but surely coming into the spotlight as a top destination for a girls trip down South. Whether it’s a bourbon-themed bachelorette party or a foodie-fueled getaway, there’s an abundance of activities to choose from in Derby City to make your girls weekend spectacular from start to finish. Start off with a tasty brunch at Proof on Main before embarking on a steamboat ride down the Ohio River for breathtaking views of the city from the water. Book a few whiskey tastings along the Bourbon Trail for happy hour before heading to the NuLu district for dinner and a girls night out. Book a room at 21c Louisville for an artsy stay in the center of the action.

Instead of Los Angeles, try San Diego.

Chelsea Loren/Travel + Leisure

While Los Angeles may be the first city to come to mind for a Southern California sojourn, if you drive just a little farther south you can stay in San Diego for an amazing beach vacation with your girlfriends. The coastal city has all of the best parts of Los Angeles (breathtaking hikes, great food, and beautiful beaches), with fewer crowds and a more relaxed vibe than you’ll find on Hollywood Boulevard. Take a group surfing or paddle boarding lesson in Pacific Beach, then re-fuel with mouthwatering tacos from Fernandez Restaurant or The Taco Stand . For nightlife, head to the Gaslamp District, which is chock-full of restaurants and bars for a night out on the town with your girls. Stay at the Kimpton Alma Hotel near the Gaslamp Quarter and Little Italy — the rooftop pool deck is the perfect place to cool off after a day spent touring the city.

Instead of Miami, try San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Taylor McIntyre/Travel + Leisure

For years, Miami has reigned as the #1 spot for girls trips, but head just a bit farther south to Puerto Rico, and you and your girlfriends can enjoy all the beach vibes and fun nightlife in a gorgeous island setting. Start your day off with Mallorca bread from a local bakery, then learn how to craft the perfect cocktail in a mixology class or admire the street art and landmarks during a walking tour of the city. Of course, you have to carve out time to relax at the beach — the crystal-blue waters of El Escambrón are perfect for a boat day, swimming, snorkeling, or simply relaxing before dancing the night away in Old San Juan or the Condado district. The best part about this city is you and your girlfriends will feel like you’ve taken an international trip, with no passport required for U.S. citizens. Book the iconic Caribe Hilton — credited with creating the piña colada — to enjoy easy beach access close to the city’s main attractions.

Instead of Puerto Vallarta, try Careyes, Mexico.

The allure of a Mexican getaway draws travelers to Puerto Vallarta all year long, but if you travel just a bit farther south, you will reach Careyes — a small but magical retreat located on the coast of Jalisco. Careyes exceeds all expectations of a typical Mexico beach vacation, with luxurious accommodations, picturesque beaches, and zero crowds. Boat tours to secluded beaches, horseback riding adventures, and yoga classes are all available to take your girls trip to the next level. Party under the stars with international crowds at the Playa Rosa Beach Club or Punto Como Steakhouse. Multi-bedroom accommodations at the beachfront El Careyes Club & Residences make this property ideal for a group vacation.

Instead of Paris, try Copenhagen.

Alexander Spatari/Getty Images

Paris is known for chic shopping, delicious food, and beautiful art, but what if I told you that you could find all that and more in Copenhagen? The Scandinavian capital is the perfect destination for a European girls trip with incredible culture, dining, and fashion that rival the likes of Paris (or any other major European city, for that matter). Instead of cruising down the Seine, take a boat ride through Copenhagen’s famous canals, then head to the Copenhagen Contemporary , The Glyptotek , or Louisiana Museum of Modern Art . Copenhagen is considered one of the best food destinations in the world, so there is no shortage of restaurants to recommend. For gourmet dining, you can try Barabba or Høst , but you also can’t go wrong with a simple burger from Popl or a pastry from Lille . Before heading out for a night on the town, take a stroll down the charming Nyhavn , which at night is just as enchanting as the glittering Eiffel Tower. Stay at Hotel Skt. Annæ, located just a block away from Nyhavn and a short walk from other top attractions.

Instead of Napa Valley, try Oregon’s Willamette Valley.

RobertCrum/Getty Images

A wine-tasting vacation is almost synonymous with Napa Valley, but for a new destination that boasts great wine, scenic views, and so much more, head north to the Willamette Valley in Oregon. Just an hour south of Portland, you can spend your days sipping at wineries like Beacon Hill or Compris and soaking up the pinot with meals at Dos Mundos or Honey Pie Pizza . When your group is not on the wine trail, you can go canoeing or kayaking on the Willamette River Water Trail, take a thrilling hot air balloon ride , or have a restorative spa day at The Allison Inn and Spa , which makes for a perfect home base for this wine country escape.

Instead of New York City, try Chicago.

Cory Giguere/Travel + Leisure

Even though New York gets all the big-city buzz, Chicago should not be overlooked when planning an urban getaway with your girls. Chicago is filled with exquisite art, exciting nightlife, and a celebrated food scene. Choose between deep-dish pizza at Pequod’s or a classic burger and fries at Au Cheval before heading towards Millenium Park. Snap a photo at the Cloud Gate sculpture or peruse the Art Institute of Chicago before exploring more of the shops, bars, and restaurants in the downtown area. At night, your crew can check out a comedy show or live music performance at one of Chicago’s many iconic venues before bar-hopping in Logan Square or The West Loop. Stay at TheWit Chicago for stylish and modern rooms in the heart of the city.

It’s a practical gift, but a new suitcase that matches your teenager’s personality could be a fun way to give the gift of travel. Look on Etsy for fun designs. Or find reviews of the best luggage for teens and choose one that will last them well into adulthood.

Other popular practical travel gifts include:

GoPro Hero 9 : This versatile action camera is perfect for capturing all their travel adventures. It’s compact, durable, and can capture high-quality photos and videos.

Portable Bluetooth Speaker : A compact, wireless speaker is a great addition to any teen traveler’s backpack. They can enjoy their favorite music or podcasts on the go, whether at the beach, in a hostel, or during a road trip. My favorite is the JBL clip that can be clipped to your backpack , or on a hook in a hotel room.

Travel Adapter : A universal travel adapter is one of the practical travel accessories for teens to charge their electronic devices in any country they visit. Look for one with multiple USB ports for added convenience.

Packing Cubes : These handy organizers help keep luggage neat and maximize space. Teens will appreciate the efficiency and ease of using packing cubes to find their belongings while on the move.

Portable Hammock: Teens can relax and enjoy scenic views wherever they go with a lightweight, packable hammock. It’s perfect for lounging in parks, beaches, or even in the wilderness during camping trips. Especially if you want some outdoor gifts for teenagers, this is it. It’s essential travel gear for teens.

Reusable water bottle: I’m always on the lookout for eco-friendly products when I travel. A reusable water bottle is an essential item for any teen looking to reduce their carbon footprint.

Travel Games: Does your teen love to play games? Portable travel games are always fun when traveling with the whole family . This certainly works as the best travel gifts for those that love road trips!

Remember, personal preferences may vary, so consider the interests and travel style of the specific teen you’re buying for when choosing the perfect travel gift.

Still not sure what to get your teens? Etsy has a curated list of stocking stuffers to fit every style. Be sure to check them out here .

Experience Gifts

When it comes to finding the perfect gift for a teenager, many shoppers may just think of buying something like a new iPhone or the newest trending item.

But in reality, why not give them experiences as travel-related gifts?

Going on a road trip together, booking a stay in a unique hotel, or taking a cooking class are all amazing ways to show them you care and create memories that will last so much longer than any material item could.

Plus, these types of adventures will make for great stories that can be shared and cherished with friends and family for years to come! So when looking for the perfect gift don’t forget to consider creating memories as well!

FAQs About a Travel Gift for Teenagers

Q: what are good travel gifts for teenagers.

A: When shopping for teen travelers, look for items that are both useful and trendy. Consider buying a travel-sized phone charger, a noise-canceling pair of headphones, or a universal adapter so they can stay connected while on the road. A stylish suitcase, passport holder, or wallet also make great gifts that will last them through their travels.

Q: How do I find the perfect travel gift for my teenager?

A: Start by considering your teen’s interests and hobbies. If they’re into fashion and beauty, buy a set of mini beauty products like facial moisturizers or makeup removers that fit in their carry-on bag. If sports are their thing, get them a set of personalized luggage tags to easily spot their bags at the airport baggage carousel. Don’t forget practical items too—a microfiber towel that quickly dries is always useful!

Q: What are some affordable travel gifts for teenagers?

A: You don’t have to spend an arm and a leg to get your teen traveler something special. Small souvenirs from places visited work well as mementos of past trips. Look for touristy T-shirts, magnets, keychains – anything small and inexpensive that is easily transportable. Books related to their destination can also be great travel companions when they’re off exploring new places!

What are some good strategies for choosing birthday or holiday gifts for teenagers?

When it comes to buying presents for teenagers, the key is to find something unique and thoughtful while keeping within their interests. Consider personalizing the item with an engraving or custom design. Consider also gifting experiences instead of items, such as concert tickets, movie passes, or classes in activities they like such as music or sports lessons. A day trip or vacation getaway could also be a great way to celebrate a special occasion.

Final Thoughts about Gifts for teens

I hope this list has helped you find the perfect travel gift to give your teenager. And if you’re looking for travel gifts for tweens, most of this list would work for that age group as well.

Now, it’s time for me to turn things over and hear from YOU! What are YOUR favorite and fun travel gifts for teens? Do they enjoy any of these items or would there be something else that they would love more? Let us know in the comments below or on social media so we can help other travelers out too!

Overall, finding the right teen travel gifts doesn’t have to be hard! With just a little bit of research (and the following list) and thoughtfulness, you can ensure they have everything they need to make their time away from home all the more special and memorable.
