He tries to leave his chair and walk again. In the meantime, their house catches fire and the uncle is perceived to be frantically looking for his missing son. Mary finally walks into the burning house to tell her uncle that his son is safe in the secret garden.

The movie illustrates the uncle’s depression over his lost wife and his overbearing protectiveness of his son. One could interpret his son’s disability as a consequence of his father's maladaptive protectiveness. The secret garden is the place where every problem is magically solved. I Origins is a movie that probes the great mysteries of life, starting from the incredible mystery of the human eye. It is directed by Mike Cahill, this movie represents the endless dance between science and faith. The fact-oriented molecular biologist Dr. Ian Gray (Michael Pitt) is looking to create an eye from living organisms along with his lab partner Karen (Brit Marling). Despite Ian’s fascination with the eye and his passion for this rather ambitious project, he almost loses interest when he meets the beautiful Sofi (Astrid Berges-Frisbey) at a Halloween party. Their meeting manages to create, even temporarily, a seed of doubt in his rigid scientific and factual view of life.

Sofi is spiritual and believes in a parallel intangible reality. She warns him, “It is dangerous to play God.” Their relationship comes to an end with the shocking death of Sofi. Seven years later, he marries his lab assistant and together, they carry on their quest to prove that the gift of vision is, in fact, just a result of evolution and not a divine gift. Despite Sofi’s attempts to open his "inner" eye, the scientist is rigid in his views. His obsession with eyes and sight becomes ironic when his blindness to the spiritual is introduced to the equation.

Finally, he meets an Indian girl whose eyes are the exact replication of the deceased Sofi. He starts observing the little girl and noticing the many ways in which she resembles his ex-wife. This encounter liberates Ian from his stubbornness and helps him consider that something beyond science can exist. Inception grapples with the idea that our subconscious controls the bigger part of our reality. Christopher Nolan’s masterpiece is about a professional thief named Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio) who infiltrates the subconscious of his targets with the use of a machine and a group of trained "brain hackers." If you are thinking that this is too good to be true, well, you would be right—jumping into one’s subconscious repetitively and staying there for a long time has dangerous consequences.

The protagonist’s wife, who journeys with him through the subconscious was eventually unable to tell reality from dream . When she is awake, she would be thinking that she is dreaming. In fact, she decides to jump from the balcony of a hotel room in order to wake up, not knowing that the fall will kill her. Her husband tries to warn her, but she is so convinced that she makes the jump. Cobb’s trauma over the loss of his wife, and his guilt does not leave him. Every time he dives into his subconscious , he meets her in the dream realm. She tries to get him to stay with her in that realm.

However, Cobb’s sense of reality is stronger, and he finally manages to leave the dreamworld and rejoin his children. This movie makes you think about the power that trauma holds on one’s subconscious and how it affects reality. The limitations are always internal, precisely inside the parts of the mind that are hard to reach.

2 Her (2013)

Her is a 2013 science-fiction movie that stood out thanks to its original ideas and creative, thought-provoking approach. It follows Theodore Twombly (Joaquin Phoenix) , a talented writer who develops a relationship with Samantha (Scarlett Johansson), an AI virtual assistant. The idea of a relationship between a human and a robot has been dealt with before, but never as profoundly as in this movie. There has always been the fantasy that a robot can have the human complexity that allows it to develop feelings and have a relationship. If the computer can talk back, can answer questions, and even have a full conversation, maybe it can also fulfill our emotional needs. That’s the premise of the whole movie.

Theodore is an example of a lonely and introverted writer who finds it difficult to relate to his surroundings. He is also on the verge of a divorce that he keeps delaying. The writer and his AI assistant start having deep conversations about his marriage, love, and the meaning of life. Feelings start to grow and finally, Theodore accepts Samantha as a romantic partner despite the unorthodox nature of the relationship. A risk that was worth taking, for a while—until he learns that she has been talking to thousands like himself simultaneously. She finally leaves him and refuses to disclose her next destination.

Although the movie succeeds in making viewers sympathize with this unconventional relationship , the true message behind it is that escaping one’s painful emotions and difficulties in building relationships by relying on the virtual world will only delay personal development and make things worse. The movie is also a call to face facts and opt for the truth, no matter how painful it is.

1 Arrival (2016)

Arrival is a movie about the curious issue of extraterrestrial life. It follows a linguistics professor, Louise Banks (Amy Adams), who was summoned by the military in order to lead an investigation of 12 spaceships that hit different parts of the world. Whether aliens exist is still a matter of debate, however, this movie creates a possibility of interaction between species. The interaction was depicted as a mission fraught with mystery and danger. Professor Louise was brave enough to remove her suit and approach the Heptapods as an act of showing trust in order to facilitate communication. Her efforts were fruitful as she gets to decode some messages from their heavily coded interaction.

The movie presents certain aspects like time, from an extraterrestrial point of view . Time is not linear for Heptapods, and they show Louise a glimpse of her future. Despite the unpleasant things that she sees in her future, she decides to make the same decisions. It’s another way of saying that bad things are inevitable and that if you want to dodge them, you will have to dodge the good things as well. Sam, who is a young scientist and daughter of a pro-Earth activist, decides to stay behind. Though she has a plan to save Earth, staying behind is dangerous because the atmosphere is running out of Oxygen. The key to Sam’s destiny is in the title of the movie, ‘IO,’ which stands for the mortal lover of Zeus and the mother of Hercules in mythology. ‘IO’ puts forward the complex connection between women, earth, fertility, and the phenomenon of “birth.” The movie, which stars Margaret Qualley, Anthony Mackie, and Danny Huston in the lead roles, is directed by Jonathan Helpert. As expected, we are subjected to a cross-culture exploration and the issues that modern love is underscored by, including different cultures, different expectations, generational dissimilarities, and different faiths. Produced by Further Pictures, ‘Ram Dass, Going Home’ is a short documentary that paints an inspiring portrait of the titular protagonist. The popular author and advocate for awareness of death and dying has, since the 60s, remained an influential spiritual figure by offering people much-needed guidance on life. While his unforgettable message continues to resonate with his followers, facing his own death now, Ram Dass must use his own philosophy of death and dying to face the final months of his life. The Archie Hekagery directorial revolves around a young adult named Deni Ruso, who is born with a silver spoon and has to never work for anything in life. However, the life of the spoilt young man changes forever when he comes across an environmental activist who is outspoken about her beliefs and does not shy away from fighting for the greater good. 3. In Vitro (2019)

‘In Vitro’ is a sci-fi short directed by Søren Lind and Larissa Sansour. It stars Hiam Abbass and Maisa Abd Elhadi and is set in Bethlehem in the decades-long aftermath of an ecological disaster. We have two scientists who struggle to make sense of the disaster, deal with their memories, and figure out a future from scratch. With brilliant use of imagery to portray the human experience amid a lost world, the film upholds emotions and questions that many of us will struggle to grasp, and rightfully so. 2. The Miracle Club (2023)

Three formidable actresses join forces in this spiritual drama and take us on a pilgrimage filled with mirth, warmth, forgiveness, and miracles. We have Maggie Smith, Kathy Bates, and Laura Linney, and joining them is Agnes O’Casey. Set in Ireland in 1967, we follow Lily (Smith), Eileen (Bates), and their much younger friend/companion Dolly (Agnes O’Casey), who win the Holy Cross Talent Show and thereby the chance to go to Lourdes, the miraculous pilgrimage site in France. However, before the trio can leave, the youngest member of the lot, Chrissie (Laura Linney), returns after decades. It was Chrissie’s mother who organized the show but passed away before she could embark on the pilgrimage, and Chrissie is here for her funeral. As frosty as the women are with Chrissie, she joins them on the journey, replacing her mother, which seemingly results in a trip overshadowed by secrets from the past. Spiritualism has recently become a trending and new way of living that people are practicing these days. Considering the distracted and unhealthy lifestyle that we are surrounded with I believe practicing spiritualism does add the element of peace and happiness to our lives.

Moreover, it works as a buffer from negative events, thoughts, behavior, and emotions! So I have even planned to start my journey of spiritualism. I was quite not sure where to begin and a few days back while scrolling through my Netflix I realized this is the platform where I can begin my spiritual journey from!

Who could be a better preacher of spirituality than one of the greatest leaders of spiritualism? Any guesses who am I referring to here? Yes, it is His Holiness, Dalai Lama. His spiritual teachings have always inspired me to connect with something greater than myself. This amazing interaction between Rick Ray’s questions from his journey through India and the Middle East with the Dalai Lama is sure to leave you inspired. Plus, you are sure to find your answers on spirituality here.

6. Peaceful Warrior (2006)

Imagine bumping into a stranger and changing your life to 180 degrees! Giving shape to this weird fantasy of mine is the movie, based on the best-selling novel by Dan Millman- Peaceful Warrior. An all-star athlete life witnessed major life challenges due to his accident but a gas station attendant aids in his recovery by changing his view of life and way of living. You know now that is the magic of spirituality I can’t wait to explore.

Movies about faith and religion generally have a reputation for being subpar, often laughable exercises in message over substance. It's lamentable that faith-based audiences haven't had more selection historically. Especially considering the size of the demographic, it's a pity this has long been the case.

One of the surprise breakout hits of 2023, Jesus Revolution scored well with audiences and exceeded expectations at the box office. Critics generally endorsed the faith-based drama, with the film hovering just above a "Fresh" score on Rotten Tomatoes. Movies dealing with faith can be challenging to evaluate, especially from a critical angle. But as films that deal with themes of Christianity have become more popular in recent years , many have scored well on Rotten Tomatoes with both audiences and critics.

16 'Breakthrough' (2019)

Rotten tomatoes score: 62%.

Based on the true story of a young boy named John Smith , Breakthrough revolves around the miraculous recovery of John ( Marcel Ruiz ), who falls through the ice of a frozen lake and is declared dead for over an hour. But his mother, Joyce Smith, holds out hope and desperately prays for her son's recovery. John's heart begins to beat again through the power of prayer, and in defiance of initial medical expectations, he finally makes a full recovery.

Breakthrough is a rare example of a faith-based movie that respects the medical profession. Moreover, it isn't afraid to show the characters' doubts and difficulties, which makes the eventual breakthrough much more potent and poignant. The movie is more than just faith, it's an all-encompassing movie that mixes faith, love, community, and hope to uplift, inspire, and bring joy. Even though it might not be a blockbuster, this movie could inspire others of the same genre to succeed.

15 'Jesus Revolution' (2023)

Jesus Revolution is inspired by the true story of a Christian revival that took place in the late 1960s in southern California, led by, of all people, hippies. The story follows the intersecting narratives of Greg Laurie , Chuck Smith , and Lonnie Frisbee , all leaders and pastors in this movement where thousands of people in California started following Jesus, leading to thousands more across the country in subsequent years.

The three men playing these roles also couldn't be more different. Greg Laurie is played by relative newcomer Joel Courtney , whose biggest role previously was as a child actor in Super 8 . Chuck Smith is played by Kelsey Grammer , well-established in Hollywood and on television. Fans of Christian media will recognize Jonathan Roumie who plays Lonnie Frisbee from his role as Jesus in The Chosen . It's the differing paths of these actors and ultimately their characters that create the perfect storm for revival to occur in this story.

14 'I Can Only Imagine' (2018)

Rotten tomatoes score: 67%.

I Can Only Imagine is a biographical drama about the real life of Bart Mallard , lead singer of the band MercyMe. The film traces Bart's childhood in Texas, his abusive relationship with his father, and their eventual reconciliation. Dennis Quaid and Cloris Leachman are the heavy hitters of the cast, but Broadway performer J. Michael Finley gives a moving performance as Bart and handles all of his singing.

Because of its autobiographical nature, this story is intensely personal and resonates deeply with fans. It also has great music, and the popular MercyMe song "I Can Only Imagine" gets to be appreciated on a deeper level, as fans now know the origin story, not only of the singer but also of the song.

13 'Come Sunday' (2018)

Come Sunday centers on Carlton Pearson ( Chiwetel Ejiofor ), who is a successful and charismatic Pentecostal preacher in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He belongs to the prosperity gospel movement, which promotes the idea that faith can bring about material success and personal wealth, and he has a sizable congregation. When Pearson gets a discovery that contradicts his long-held convictions, however, his life takes a drastic shift.

The movie offers a warning about the theological misunderstandings and abuses that can occur in charismatic societies where the phrase "God told me" is often used . It also raises questions about the nature of God, salvation, and the role of organized religion in the lives of believers, providing audiences with a provocative look at the path of a man who dared to doubt and develop his religion in spite of the difficulties it caused.

In the heart of the American South, a popular minister challenges the traditional Christian teachings about hell, sparking a contentious debate within his church and beyond. 12 'A Hidden Life' (2019)

A Hidden Life is based on the true story of Franz Jägerstätter , a conscientious objector during World War II, who refused to fight for the Nazis when they recruited soldiers from his small Austrian town. His fate is written on the wall, but the audience takes the journey with him, as he wrestles with his conscience, talks with his wife, and consults his local clergy about his moral dilemma. The punishment for not fighting is clear, but Franz accepts his death with sadness to lose his family but joy at having obeyed his Creator.

Directed by Terrance Malick , this is perhaps one of the most beautiful films ever made. There are wide, expansive shots of the family farm nestled in the Austrian mountains. We see the vastness of the country and also witness the intimacy between a husband and wife. We know that Franz's character has changed from how he was as a young man, but the struggle the audience sees is more simple: the struggle to follow his conviction. Once he realizes that he cannot fight in the war, he is resolved. And while his bravery is simple, the audience sees the cost of his courage, culminating in his death.

11 'Chariots of Fire' (1981)

An earnest and sentimental, undeniably touching Oscar-winning drama about love and friendship between men, this British classic directed by Hugh Hudson is based on the true story of Christian Eric Liddell ( Ian Charleson ) and Jewish Ben Cross ( Harold Abrahams ), competitors in the 1924 Olympics.

Winner of four Oscars (from seven nods) including Best Picture, Chariots of Fire is widely regarded as one of the best sports movies ever. Perhaps most of all, it's known for the pulsing and rousing electronic Vangelis score. One year later, Vangelis would compose and perform the equally brilliant score for Blade Runner .

10 'Silence' (2016)

Silence is the movie Martin Scorcese waited over twenty years to make. It's the story of two Jesuit priests, played by Andrew Garfield and Adam Driver , who go on a rescue mission to Edo-era Japan to rescue their mentor, played by Liam Neeson . Their mentor, Ferreira, is rumored to be dead or worse -- to have renounced his faith. In their search, the two men experience persecution, hunger, and despair.

This film is clearly a labor of love for Scorsese , arguably his most personal film. It's visually stunning, with sweeping shots of the Japanese coasts and forests. More intimately, Scorsese is able to showcase human suffering, loneliness, and hope (or the lack of it) through these characters. Silence is a bleak and grueling watch clocking in at over three hours, but Scorsese's passion makes it essential viewing for any film fan. Justin Chang of Los Angeles Times named Silence the best film of 2016, calling it "shattering" and "an anguished masterwork."

In the 17th century, two Portuguese Jesuit priests travel to Japan in an attempt to locate their mentor, who is rumored to have committed apostasy, and to propagate Catholicism.

9 'Hacksaw Ridge' (2016)

Hacksaw Ridge is based on the true story of Desmond Doss, an American who served in the Army during World War II but refused to handle a rifle or work on Saturdays because of his faith as a Seventh-Day Adventist and pacifist Christian. Regardless, Doss enlisted in the army as a medic following the attack on Pearl Harbor. After enduring beatings, verbal assault and nearly being discharged from the army, the explosive, powerful film culminates with Doss being accepted by his fellow soldiers, and saving 75 men at Hacksaw Ridge.

Garfield is known for taking on roles that explore faith and meaning, and this is a prime example. Directed by Mel Gibson , the intensity of the war scenes he captures offers a stunning backdrop to witness Doss's unwillingness to bear arms. Hacksaw Ridge served as something of a comeback for once disgraced Gibson, garnering positive critical and audience response in addition to six Academy Award nods.

8 'Ben-Hur' (1959)

Rotten tomatoes score: 85%.

One of the most spectacular period movies on record, The Best Years of Our Lives helmer William Wyler 's astounding epic is based on the most popular Christian novel of the 19th century: Lew Wallace's Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ . The story follows a wrongly convicted and enslaved Jewish noble whose adventures parallel, and even intertwine, with the story of Jesus.

Featuring Charlton Heston 's best performance, Ben-Hur won a record 11 Oscars (only matched by Titanic and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King . The climactic chariot race is still among the most rousing action set pieces ever committed to film. It's definitely worth mentioning the 1925 silent MGM feature here as well, a landmark in its own right that every film fan should experience. A laughably under-cooked 2016 remake came and went.

After a Jewish prince is betrayed and sent into slavery by a Roman friend in 1st-century Jerusalem, he regains his freedom and comes back for revenge.

7 'The Tree of Life' (2011)

Director Terrence Malick's Tree of Life is arguably one of the first and biggest mainstream films to deal with the concept of faith, pulling explicitly from the Bible, especially the Book of Job. The movie follows the adult Jack O'Brien, played by Sean Penn as he reflects on his childhood, his parents being played by Brad Pitt and Jessica Chastain .

One of the most theologically profound aspects of this movie is the attention it gives to two opposing forces of humanity: the way of grace and the way of nature. The adult Jack O'Brien feels both of these forces within himself as he remembers his childhood. His mother who is kind, nurturing, and patient, embodies the way of grace. His father who is short-tempered, restless, and at times cruel, exemplifies the way of nature. The adult Jack tries to work out who he is as these dual forces battle within him like they do for all of us. Though it's somewhat divisive, Tree of Life was an overall triumph, garnering three Oscar nods including Best Picture.

6 'The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind' (2019)

Rotten tomatoes score: 86%.

Based on the true story of William Kamkwamba , The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind follows William ( Maxwell Simba ) as he is forced to drop out of school due to a famine that devastates his village. Despite having no formal education, William is motivated to find a solution to the issues affecting his community, especially the starvation and drought that endanger their way of life. He becomes passionate about using wind energy to power a water pump and irrigate the fields, giving a lifeline for his village's survival after being inspired by a book he finds in the neighborhood library.

The movie's themes of resiliency, ingenuity, and the strength of the human spirit are set against this backdrop as it emphasizes how faith can bring comfort, motivation, and a sense of purpose during trying times. Although it's frequently tough to watch due to its honest depiction of human suffering, this only helps its high points pay off and makes the movie one of the most inspirational stories about human resilience and faith.

The Boy Who Harnessed The Wind

5 'calvary' (2014), rotten tomatoes score: 89%.

Calvary follows the story of a sincere, yet imperfect priest seeking to minister to a town that is burdened by sin and doubt. After an anonymous source warns Father James will pay for the sins of other priests with his life, the weight of the problems of the town seems to grow, and it seems there is a limit to the reconciliation Father James is able to usher in. Brendan Gleeson plays the priest Father James perfectly.

The film provides an interesting premise: rather than telling a story of a bad priest in a good world, this is the story of a good priest in a bad world. The values of forgiveness and restoration are strong, though they are always contrasted with despair and melancholy. Nearly a decade before his Oscar-nominated turn in The Banshees of Inisherin , Gleeson displayed his distinct gift for grounding dark comedy in layers of humanity.

4 'Women Talking' (2023)

Rotten tomatoes score: 90%.

Women Talking is just what it sounds like. The film centers around a conversation between female representatives of a Mennonite community in Bolivia who must decide together how to respond to a crisis in their community. Over a period of four years, the women have been attacked in the night by certain unknown men in their community. They have a small window of time when the men are away from the colony and the women must decide -- should they run, fight, or do nothing?

This movie grapples with the question so many Christians deal with: What happens when I'm suffering and God is silent? Working out the answer to this question is exquisitely achieved in this film, which calls itself "a work of female imagination." The cast and crew were made up of nearly all females, with particularly excellent performances by Claire Foy and Rooney Mara . In the end, the women make their decision communally. They share their stories, their anger, and their hurts. In the end, they do come to a decision, and while they know it's right, it doesn't mean it's easy.

3 'first reformed' (2018), rotten tomatoes score: 94%.

First Reformed deals with crises of faith. Ethan Hawke plays Father Toller, pastor of a historic church in upstate New York with a dying congregation. Amanda Seyfried plays Mary, a pregnant woman worried about her husband, a man consumed by the thoughts that the earth will become uninhabitable for their child due to climate change. These characters come together, dealing with the weightiness of their personal lives, local politics, and a worldwide existential threat.

The most marvelous thing about this film is the relationship between its two main characters, played by Hawke and Seyfried. They're calm and understated, yet carrying the weight of the world within themselves. Yet this resonates as a human experience. Humans carry on in the face of death, loss, failure, uncertainty, and fear. These two characters look to Christianity for answers, but the answers don't come easily.

As he delves deeper into the environmental cause, his growing radicalization confronts him with troubling questions about his capacity for violence and his commitment to his faith.

2 'Mass' (2021)

Rotten tomatoes score: 95%.

Mass is the story of one conversation that takes place entirely in a church basement. Two sets of parents who are connected by tragedy meet in an attempt to heal from the deaths of both of their sons. And while the setting is simple, the movie deals with the incredibly heavy issues of blame, guilt, and reconciliation. The movie is the directorial debut of Fran Kranz (he played the pothead in Cabin in the Woods ), who also wrote and directed.

Reed Birney , Ann Dowd , Jason Isaacs , and Martha Plimpton all give moving performances of parents dealing with grief and hurt. The four of them create a lasting tension in the room together that makes trudging through their feelings difficult and volatile. Despite overwhelmingly positive response from critics as well as audiences ( the audience score on Rotten Tomatoes is 91%), Mass more or less went under the radar upon release. It's one of the most powerful drama movies so far this decade, a gut punch about grace and redemption.

Years after a tragic incident that changed their lives, two sets of parents agree to meet in a small church basement to discuss the unimaginable pain caused by their sons. Through their conversation, they confront their deepest grief and seek a path toward understanding and reconciliation.

1 'The Passion of Joan of Arc' (1928)

A breathtaking triumph of the silent era, Carl Theodor Dreyer 's masterpiece depicts the trial and execution of the eponymous defender of France who claimed to hear the voice of God. The film was released eight years after the Roman Catholic Church made Joan of Arc a patron saint.

Stylistically, The Passion of Joan of Arc is the place where French Impressionism, German Expressionism and Soviet Montage meet. The director was famously meticulous in research surrounding the life and death of the subject, the production exquisitely framing Renée Jeanne Falconetti's performance that's long been regarded as among the best in film. Few films if any have relied so heavily on close-ups to such remarkable effect.

Sadie Robertson Huff, Husband Christian Share ‘Refining’ Parenting Journey

As Christian podcaster Sadie Robertson Huff and her husband Christian Huff prepare for daughters Honey and Haven’s birthdays in May, the couple shared what they have discovered about parenting in this last year.

“We just think Honey, the things she’s saying right now are so funny and so good that we were like, we have got to get her on the podcast,” Robertson Huff said as she introduced her soon-to-be three-year-old on the “WHOA That’s Good” podcast.

“[S]he gets really nervous for things and gets shy, even though at home, she’s not shy at all, but that’s how I was when I was little,” she said of the toddler.

The DUCK DYNASTY alum said that one thing that has surprised her as a parent is her daughter’s moments of insecurity and shyness. She uses singing as an example.

“She’ll get nervous to sing, and she’s like, ‘I can’t do that. I can’t sing.’ And I’m, ‘That’s crazy. You’re two years old…you’re so good at singing,’’’ Sadie said . “But I’m so nervous about that. I get so nervous to sing. I feel like, okay, are you insecure in that way because you saw me be insecure that way, or is it just a generational thing or is that just like in you?”

Sadie said seeing her daughter’s insecurity has made her more “intentional” in the ways she speaks around her to instill confidence.

“I want to show her that you can do things that make you scared, you know?” she said .

The Louisiana native recalls how her mom, Korie, helped her deal with fear growing up.

“She was such a good mom to me, and I remember the scriptures that she spoke over me: ‘Do not be dismayed for I am thy God. I will strengthen you. I will uphold you in my righteous right hand.’ I would probably only know that verse by heart because my mom always spoke it over me,” the 26-year-old said .

In another episode of her podcast, Robertson Huff shared another lesson that her mom taught her about overcoming fear.

“She’s like, ‘Being afraid is not a good enough excuse to not do something.’ She’s like, ‘Look, you can have other excuses, and I might listen to it, and I might be “Okay,” but if you ever come to me, and you say I’m not going to do it because I’m afraid, then you’re doing it,’” Robertson Huff recalled .

“I think our generation focuses so much on not having any anxiety, and it’s like sometimes you need a little healthy dose of anxiety to get you going. And you know, sometimes that just means it matters. It just means you care,” she went on to say .

Sadie and Christian share that they’re learning parenting is a balance between encouragement and overbearance.

“You don’t want to force your kids to do anything, but then again, you know, we don’t want to be those parents that just never push them,” Christian said .

He said that they are dealing with that balance as their oldest, Honey, has been going through the toddler years and dealing with inevitable tantrums of that age.

“[I]t’s a new challenge, and it takes more patience and more just self-control to not get frustrated or even just flustered at a situation, so I think that’s for me, the biggest thing I’ve learned this year,” he said .

Sadie said that it has been a process and that through each season of life, God is preparing them for the next, even if they might not feel ready for it.

“You’re learning through the whole thing, and it’s hard, and it’s refining, but, man, it makes you so much better as a person,” Sadie said .

After the birth of Honey, she was asked how many kids the couple wants, to which she told E! News: “One day we’ll say four kids, one day we’ll say three.”

She said that they’re open to adoption as well. Three of her five siblings are adopted.

Sadie revealed in the past her battle with anxiety after the birth of her firstborn as reported by Movieguide®:

“It was like, so many emotions happening that I couldn’t really fight the fear like I normally do. All of a sudden, I was just in a state of anxiety. I didn’t even realize that it was creeping us as much as it was.” “That is such a toxic brain spiral to go through that it will manifest itself in some way,” she added. “I didn’t even realize that those thoughts throughout the day were making me jittery, were making me have all these feelings of anxiety and were making my chest feel super tight, like, I couldn’t breathe.” Robertson Huff recalled a particular moment where her husband found her crying in her closet alone. “I just said, ‘I’m so scared. I’m so scared that something is going to happen to [Honey],’” Robertson explained. “It was so real. I was like, ‘I’m so scared that something is going to happen to her. I’m so scared that she’s not really OK. What if whenever she got stuck [during delivery], the oxygen actually cut off to her head. I’m scared that something happens to me and I am not going to get to be the mom that I want to be to her.” Despite the couple’s happiness and thankfulness to God for blessing them with a child, Robertson Huff said she was still fearful. “I didn’t understand how I could be so happy and so joyful, yet also experience so much fear,” Robertson said. “I realized that you don’t have to choose just one of those feelings. You don’t have to choose fear and trade out all the joy. You don’t have to choose joy and trade out all the fear. It can actually go hand in hand.”

Her last LP, “Midnights” from 2022, rolled out in multiple editions, each with its own extra songs and collectible covers. Her record-breaking Eras Tour is a three-and-a-half-hour marathon featuring 40-plus songs, including the revised 10-minute version of her lost-innocence ballad “All Too Well.” In this imperial era of her long reign, Swift has operated under the guiding principle that more is more.

What Swift reveals on her sprawling and often self-indulgent 11th LP, “The Tortured Poets Department,” is that this stretch of productivity and commercial success was also a tumultuous time for her, emotionally. “I can read your mind: ‘She’s having the time of her life,’” Swift sings on “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart,” a percolating track that evokes the glitter and adoration of the Eras Tour but admits, “All the pieces of me shattered as the crowd was chanting ‘more.’” And yet, that’s exactly what she continues to provide, announcing two hours after the release of “Poets” that — surprise! — there was a second “volume” of the album, “The Anthology,” featuring 15 additional, though largely superfluous, tracks.

Gone are the character studies and fictionalized narratives of Swift’s 2020 folk-pop albums “Folklore” and “Evermore.” The feverish “Tortured Poets Department” is a full-throated return to her specialty: autobiographical and sometimes spiteful tales of heartbreak, full of detailed, referential lyrics that her fans will delight in decoding.

Swift doesn’t name names, but she drops plenty of boldfaced clues about exiting a long-term cross-cultural relationship that has grown cold (the wrenching “So Long, London”), briefly taking up with a tattooed bad boy who raises the hackles of the more judgmental people in her life (the wild-eyed “But Daddy I Love Him”) and starting fresh with someone who makes her sing in — ahem — football metaphors (the weightless “The Alchemy”). The subject of the most headline-grabbing track on “The Anthology,” a fellow member of the Tortured Billionaires Club whom Swift reimagines as a high school bully, is right there in the title’s odd capitalization: “thanK you aIMee.”

At times, the album is a return to form. Its first two songs are potent reminders of how viscerally Swift can summon the flushed delirium of a doomed romance. The opener, “Fortnight,” a pulsing, synth-frosted duet with Post Malone, is chilly and controlled until lines like “I love you, it’s ruining my life” inspire the song to thaw and glow. Even better is the chatty, radiant title track , on which Swift’s voice glides across smooth keyboard arpeggios, self-deprecatingly comparing herself and her lover to more daring poets before concluding, “This ain’t the Chelsea Hotel, we’re modern idiots.” Many Swift songs get lost in dense thickets of their own vocabulary, but here the goofy particularity of the lyrics — chocolate bars, first-name nods to friends, a reference to the pop songwriter Charlie Puth ?! — is strangely humanizing.

For all its sprawl, though, “The Tortured Poets Department” is a curiously insular album, often cradled in the familiar, amniotic throb of Jack Antonoff’s production. ( Aaron Dessner of the National, who lends a more muted and organic sensibility to Swift’s sound, produced and helped write five tracks on the first album, and the majority of “The Anthology.”) Antonoff and Swift have been working together since he contributed to her blockbuster album “1989” from 2014, and he has become her most consistent collaborator. There is a sonic uniformity to much of “The Tortured Poets Department,” however — gauzy backdrops, gently thumping synths, drum machine rhythms that lock Swift into a clipped, chirping staccato — that suggests their partnership has become too comfortable and risks growing stale.

As the album goes on, Swift’s lyricism starts to feel unrestrained, imprecise and unnecessarily verbose. Breathless lines overflow and lead their melodies down circuitous paths. As they did on “Midnights,” internal rhymes multiply like recitations of dictionary pages: “Camera flashes, welcome bashes, get the matches, toss the ashes off the ledge,” she intones in a bouncy cadence on “Fresh Out the Slammer,” one of several songs that lean too heavily on rote prison metaphors. Narcotic imagery is another inspiration for some of Swift’s most trite and head-scratching writing: “Florida,” apparently, “is one hell of a drug.” If you say so!

That song , though, is one of the album’s best — a thunderous collaboration with the pop sorceress Florence Welch, who blows in like a gust of fresh air and allows Swift to harness a more theatrical and dynamic aesthetic. “Guilty as Sin?,” another lovely entry, is the rare Antonoff production that frames Swift’s voice not in rigid electronics but in a ’90s soft-rock atmosphere. On these tracks in particular, crisp Swiftian images emerge: an imagined lover’s “messy top-lip kiss,” 30-something friends who “all smell like weed or little babies.”

It would not be a Swift album without an overheated and disproportionately scaled revenge song, and there is a doozy here called “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?,” which bristles with indignation over a grand, booming palette. Given the enormous cultural power that Swift wields, and the fact that she has played dexterously with humor and irony elsewhere in her catalog, it’s surprising she doesn’t deliver this one with a (needed) wink.

Plenty of great artists are driven by feelings of being underestimated, and have had to find new targets for their ire once they become too successful to convincingly claim underdog status. Beyoncé, who has reached a similar moment in her career, has opted to look outward. On her recently released “Cowboy Carter,” she takes aim at the racist traditionalists lingering in the music industry and the idea of genre as a means of confinement or limitation.

Swift’s new project remains fixed on her internal world. The villains of “The Tortured Poets Department” are a few less famous exes and, on the unexpectedly venomous “But Daddy I Love Him,” the “wine moms” and “Sarahs and Hannahs in their Sunday best” who cluck their tongues at our narrator’s dating decisions. (Some might speculate that these are actually shots at her own fans.) “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived” is probably the most satisfyingly vicious breakup song Swift has written since “All Too Well,” but it is predicated on a power imbalance that goes unquestioned. Is a clash between the smallest man and the biggest woman in the world a fair fight?

That’s a knotty question Swift might have been more keen to untangle on “Midnights,” an uneven LP that nonetheless found Swift asking deeper and more challenging questions about gender, power and adult womanhood than she does here. It is to the detriment of “The Tortured Poets Department” that a certain starry-eyed fascination with fairy tales has crept back into Swift’s lyricism. It is almost singularly focused on the salvation of romantic love; I tried to keep a tally of how many songs yearningly reference wedding rings and ran out of fingers. By the end, this perspective makes the album feel a bit hermetic, lacking the depth and taut structure of her best work.

Swift has been promoting this poetry-themed album with hand-typed lyrics, sponsored library installations and even an epilogue written in verse. A palpable love of language and a fascination with the ways words lock together in rhyme certainly courses through Swift’s writing. But poetry is not a marketing strategy or even an aesthetic — it’s a whole way of looking at the world and its language, turning them both upside down in search of new meanings and possibilities. It is also an art form in which, quite often and counter to the governing principle of Swift’s current empire, less is more.

Sylvia Plath once called poetry “a tyrannical discipline,” because the poet must “go so far and so fast in such a small space; you’ve got to burn away all the peripherals.” Great poets know how to condense, or at least how to edit. The sharpest moments of “The Tortured Poets Department” would be even more piercing in the absence of excess, but instead the clutter lingers, while Swift holds an unlit match.
