Guest Speaker

Kid Explorers

  • Kid Explorers Club in partnership with MAUD FONTENOY FOUNDATION.

The Greek Islands, from the Peloponnese to the Cyclades via the Dodecanese, are enchanting, bewitching and captivating. From the sheer coastlines bordered by paradisiacal turquoise waters to the archaeological sites that are as emblematic as they are monumental, let yourself fall under the spell of these jewels of the Aegean Sea. From Athens , set sail aboard L’Austral   for an 8-day cruise in the heart of the most beautiful Greek islands.

In the Dodecanese archipelago, where St. John is said to have written the Apocalypse , the island of Patmos , known as “the Jerusalem of the Aegean Sea”, reveals itself to offer you a moment suspended between unique landscapes of white-sand beaches and rocky bays.

Planted with forests of cypress trees and olive groves, Symi is bewitching. The shimmering colours of its dwellings and surrounding nature make it a real paradise for those seeking tranquillity and serenity.

You will now head towards the most easterly part of the Cyclades. Amorgos,  or the island in the Big Blue film, as it is nicknamed, is a rough gem. Fall under the spell of its volcanic and mountainous landscapes diving into the bordering crystal-clear waters and its paved small streets edged by traditional whitewashed houses.

After an unforgettable cruise in Santorini’s captivating caldera, where high cliffs surround the majestic ancient crater engulfed by water in the 2nd millennium BC, you will set sail north west. On Milos , the limestone cliffs and small hidden coves are yours to discover in a soothing atmosphere.

The birthplace of Artemis and Apollo,  Delos  is rich in archaeological ruins, UNESCO World Heritage Sites, illustrating its prestigious history. The Terrace of the Lions, the Sanctuary of Zeus and Athena, the Temple of the Athenians… journey back in time almost 2,000 years, between millennia-old heritage and sumptuous panoramas.

L’Austral will then head towards Paros . Nestling in the heart of the Cyclades archipelago, this island reputed for its sublime white marble offers a real concentration of Greek beauty, from whitewashed houses to olive groves to ancient monuments.

You will now sail towards the east of the Peloponnese, to reach your final port of call. Here, a gem named Hydra reveals its old-world charm in a stunning setting. With its hidden coves and its mountains topped with monasteries, this jewel of the Saronic Islands completely devoid of cars offers a total change of scenery against the spellbinding blue of the Aegean Sea.

Athens , the mythical city dominated by the Acropolis and its monuments, which form the most extraordinary architectural and artistic ensemble bequeathed to the world by Ancient Greece, will mark the end of this exceptional odyssey.

Maud Fontenoy Foundation

Since 2008, the Maud Fontenoy Foundation has been operating in France and internationally to protect our oceans. We organise educational activities focused on the environment for the younger generation and general public, with support from scientific partners and the French Ministry of National Education. The latter has made us responsible for its Sea Education programme and relaunch of the Sea Classes initiative. Our aim is both ecological and social: to protect the ocean and save people. We start from a strong principle that protecting the environment, particularly the ocean, is a humanitarian issue that affects all mankind, without exception. For us, the oceans are a powerful force, a potential for the future. Every year, 700,000 children benefit from our programmes.

Saint John Monastery & Apocalypse Cave

Saint John Monastery & Apocalypse Cave

From the pier, board your coach for a drive to the Saint John Monastery . Overlooking Skala port and the island’s southern region, this medieval monastery looks more like a fortress than a house of prayer. It was built to repel attacks by pirates.

In the year 95 AD, Saint John the Evangelist was banished from Ephesus and exiled to Patmos , which in the days of the Roman Empire was where those who were exiled were sent.

In 1088, the Byzantine Emperor Alexios Komnenos authorised Saint Christodoulos, an abbot from Asia Minor, to erect a monastery in memory of Saint John. The whole island was yielded to the monastery. The adjoining Theotokos Chapel has frescoes dating back to the 12th century. Other Byzantine treasures are found in the monastery. Today this holy place is a veritable museum of Byzantine art thanks to the countless frescoes, icons, holy objects and manuscripts contained within its walls.

After visiting the monastery, a short drive away, will take you to the Apocalypse Cave where the final chapter of the New Testament was revealed to John the Apostle. The Book of Revelation prophecy came to him through a symbolic vision and was written in Greek. This cave was the house of the evangelist and now is surrounded by a monastery and school of theology. You can see the resting place outlined in beaten silver where St John laid his head every night. To the right the rock is shaped like a pulpit and is where the disciple, Prochoros, wrote the revelation as dictated by John.

Finally, you will re-board your coach for a photo stop at the three windmills located at the top of Chora hill. You will then return returning to the pier.

  • This excursion is not suitable for people who have difficulty walking. The coach will drop you near the old town, and access to the monastery is on foot via cobblestone streets. All together you will have to go up and down about 100 steps. Appropriate clothing is required to enter religious sites: shoulders and knees must be covered. It is not permitted to take photos inside the chapel or the cave.

Walking around Symi, the pearl of the Dodecanese

No-2127_CR21_LY240723_Istanbul-Istanbul_©StudioPONANT_AlexandreHerbrecht-2.jpg

This incredibly charming mountainous island reveals its history through its streets and colourful houses. Stroll the quays of the lower town of Symi before you take to the heights to overlook the bay.

With its amphitheatre harbour on the side of the mountain, Symi and its colourful neoclassical-style houses are one of the most beautiful sites in the Dodecanese Islands . Considered the birthplace of the Charites (Three Graces) in Greek mythology, Symi played a significant role in the Roman and Byzantine Empires. Occupied by the Knights Hospitaller in 1373, it was at its height under the Ottoman Empire, when shipbuilding and trading brought the island relative prosperity.

Fall under the charm of the Gialos port district whose quaysides are lined with picturesque houses with multi-coloured facades. If you wish, at the end of the guided tour, you can go the upper town by car or climb the 500 steps of the main street, called the Kali Strata , which offers stunning views over the coast and the turquoise waters.

  • We recommend that you wear comfortable clothing and walking shoes.

The unspoiled beauty of Amorgos

The unspoiled beauty of Amorgos

Amorgos is an unspoiled island and the Eastern-most of the Cycladic Islands, chosen by filmmaker Luc Besson for the scene of "The Big Blue".

From the pier, you will board your coach and start your visit by the island’s trademark, the Byzantine Monastery of Hozoviotissa. Dedicated to Saint of the island, which is wedged into a huge precipice at 900 ft from the sea, the Monastery was founded by the Byzantine Emperor Alexius Komninus in 1088 and contains rare icons and manuscripts.

Continuing your tour, you will reach Chora with its castle, one of the most picturesque villages in Cyclades. Along the streets lined with whitewashed houses, Byzantine or pre-Christian churches alternate with windmills. After tasting local homemade sweets served with ouzo and raki, you may stroll around the paved little streets and discover the typical architecture of Cyclades or you may relax under the shade of the huge eucalyptus tree located in the middle of "Plateia Lozza" main square.

You will then return to Katapola port to embark your ship.

  • Coaches are very limited on the island and are not recent models. This tour involves approximately 2 hours of walking. In order to visit the inside of the monastery, guests will have to negotiate the 269 steps up and back down. Guests who do not wish to walk up the monastery can enjoy a panoramic view from the parking lot where there are benches but no shade. We recommend you wear comfortable walking shoes. Appropriate dress is required to visit the monastery. Men must wear long pants. Ladies must have their shoulders covered and wear a long skirt.

Typical Milos & its Venus

Typical Milos & its Venus

From the pier, you will board your coach for a 20-minute drive to Sarakiniko , an inlet of pure white rock formations sculpted by volcanic eruptions.

The beautiful, other-worldly spot is one of the island’s many geological wonders and perhaps one of the most photographed places in the Cyclades. You will enjoy a walk down the inlet to experience this one-of-a-kind beach and take photos. Here, you will feel as if you have landed on the moon.

Your next stop will be at the outskirts of Trypiti . You will stroll towards the marble Roman Amphitheatre, recently restored. You will discover its seven entire seat rows offering a unique view of the bay. Not far from this location, you will have the opportunity to see the site of the discovery of Venus de Milo in 1820 (now residing in the Louvre Museum in Paris).

From there, you will travel the road along the northern coast towards Plaka and its cobbled streets and alleys. Plaka is a classic Cycladic “Chora” with white stone houses and bougainvilleas, situated at 250 m, above sea level. After enjoying some free time, you will get back to your coach and your ship, 10-minute drive.

The beauties of North Milos

77_Grece_Milos_Crique-Blanche-Sarakiniko_©StudioPONANT-AlexandreHerbrecht.jpg

From Fyropotmos to Pollonia along the northern coast, Milos is overflowing with marvels, between geological wonders, seaside villages and traditional buildings.

Start your visit with Fyropotamos , a stunning fishing village located near the Trahilas volcano . Its white houses with multicoloured doors and windows give it a picture-postcard appearance. Then visit the Orthodox chapel which is on the edge of the village and contains strange and primitive religious frescoes.

Continue towards the village of Mandrakia where you will be charmed by the Syrmata - small brightly coloured fishermen’s houses -, the whitewashed church, the sandy beach stretching out into turquoise water, the dried octopuses hanging in the courtyard and the small squares where you can sip a glass of ouzo .

The next port of call will be Papafragas , one of Milos’ most fascinating sites. It is a long and narrow natural pool with a huge cave carved into the cliffside . A small path leads the boldest visitors to the small sandy beach, where a Catholic priest used to pray in medieval times (papa means ‘priest’; fragas means ‘from France/Europe’).

The village of Pollonia , Milos’ second port, directly linking Kimolos , will be your final stop. You will also be able to enjoy refreshments here and possibly a swim.

  • This excursion is in a 19-seater minibus. The minimum age for participation is 8. We recommend you wear walking shoes and wear your swimsuit under your clothes, and bring water shoes and a towel.

The archaeological site of Delos

The archaeological site of Delos

Your tour will start directly from the pier where you will have disembarked by ship's tender. Follow your guide and go discover one of the best preserved archaeological sites in Greece.

Both the oldest and the largest open-air site in Europe, this antique site has many houses, temples and sacred shrines. Emerging from a burned grass carpet, the ruins are spread out below Mount Kynthos. At the top of this small hill and only relief of the island, the Sanctuary of Zeus and Athena Cynthiens dating from the 3rd century BC. Overlooking the area, as on the hillside, you can see a range of cultural institutions dedicated to oriental divinities. Frozen by 2,000 years of abandonment, the city ruins draw an impressive maze of white stone in which one can get lost like the pilgrims and the merchants of yesteryear, when Delos was beaming on the Aegean.

You will reach the sanctuary of Apollo , known as the “Temple of the Athenians”, where you will admire the temples dedicated to this god, their altars, their votive offerings and other buildings.

Then, you will discover the Terrace of the Lions , with its famous marble lions that dominated and protected the town. You will continue until the Theatre District, the most luxurious district of the ancient city with the mansions known as the home “of Dionysus”, “of Cleopatra” and “of Dioscuri”. You will see the different mosaics that adorned the floors of Hellenistic houses, and the streets, the houses, the workshops and the shops that made Delos a bustling city.

  • This excursion is entirely on foot. We recommend you wear comfortable walking shoes and protect yourself from the sun. The museum is closed for revonation.

Paros by boat & swimming

Paros by boat & swimming

From the pier, you will depart by coach for a 30-minute drive to the port of Alyki. You will then board your traditionally built boat and start your cruise around Antiparos Island.

Antiparos is a small and quiet island which houses only one village built around the Venetian fort, example of fortification of the 15th century. Hosting many sandy beaches, this island became famous the last couple of years, as many Hollywood actors and singers like Tom Hanks, Angelina Jolie and Madonna have their own properties.

During your boat trip, you will have the opportunity to swim in the crystal-clear waters of the Aegean Sea.

Stops at anchorage will be made, where you will enjoy time for swimming and snorkeling. After enjoying a final swim in crystal clear waters, you will have some refreshment.

Finally, you will return to the port of Alyki, where your coach will be waiting for you to get back to your ship.

  • We recommend you wear your swimsuit under your clothes, bring a towel from the ship and protect yourself from the sun. Guests wishing to participate in this excursion must be able to embark and disembark the local boat without assistance. The boat is roof covered. The boat is equipped with toilets, ladders, fresh water shower. Masks and snorkel are provided onboard. This tour is limited to 30 participants.

Parikia & Naoussa

Parikia & Naoussa

From the pier, board your coach for a 10-minute drive to the famous Byzantine Church of Ekatontapyliani . Also named the “Lady of the hundred doors”, this church is one of the greatest early Christian monuments in Greece. The name was a creation of the 17th century scholars who wanted to compare the splendour of the church to that of the Temple of Hundred Doors (Ekatonpylon) in ancient Thebes of Egypt.

Following your visit, you will board your coach for a panoramic drive to the traditional village of Lefkes.

Lefkes is the most mountainous village of Paros and the most verdurous one. It was the first capital of Paros. The village is located under a pineforest on the hill. Follow your guide on a walking tour through its narrow streets with white walls. See the old wash-houses that are still used by some housewives, the House of Literature, the picturesque Ramnos, a street with taverns and other stores and the wonderful view: the sea and Naxos in the background. The houses are built amphitheatrical. The first residents were immigrants that came from Crete and Naoussa and locals who chose to build their village on the mountain, in order to be protected from the pirates. The town hall was built with the famous marble of Paros.

Once leaving Lefkes, you will head for the picturesque village of Naoussa . The port of Naoussa is protected by a separate fortification, the Venetian Castle. The fortification was built in the 15th century by the dynasty of Sommaripas and emerges from the sea behind the small harbour with the traditional fish boats. Today, although half sunk, the castle offers a very impressive sight worth seeing.

Before rejoining your ship, you will have some free time to stroll around its narrow streets, little squares and traditional whitewashed houses.

  • This tour involves approximately 2 hours of moderate walking mainly on flat ground, a few steps are to be expected at the Church of Ekatontapyliani. We recommend you wear comfortable shoes and protect yourself from the sun. Appropriate clothing is required to enter religious sites: shoulders and knees must be covered.

You will then continue to the nearby village of Naoussa , considered to be one of the prettiest in the Cyclades. Despite the development of tourism, the village has managed to keep its authenticity, its character and its charm, with its whitewashed and flowered little houses and its tiny whitewashed churches and chapels, surrounded by labyrinth-like narrow, stone-paved streets.

Your last stop will be in Parikia town , where you will visit the famous Church of a Hundred Doors. This church is the holy place of Paros and is linked to the history and myths of Byzantium.

  • This tour involves approximately two hours of walking over flat but uneven terrain and a few steps. We recommend you wear comfortable walking shoes and protect yourself from the sun.

History of Hydra

History of Hydra

The charm of Hydra town certainly lies in her rich history, port and waterfront unspoiled by motorised vehicles. This island offers a rugged charm and many scenes to discover.

It was also restored to host some competitions during the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens.

You will enjoy a photo stop at the bottom of the Acropolis Hill with its spectacular view of the Parthenon before being transferred to the port of Piraeus where you will embark on your ship.

Day 1 - Athens

Meet at Athens Airport in the Arrival hall. Look for PONANT sign. You will be greeted by our local representative off the flight selected by PONANT or any other flight (provided that you have previously communicated your flight schedule to your travel agent).

You will be transferred to the hotel Athens Capital Centre – Collection Mgallery 5*, perfectly located at Syntagma Square in the heart of Athens.

Official check-in at 15 :00.

Afternoon at leisure.

Overnight at the hotel.

Day 2 - Athens

After breakfast, your walking guided visit will be first focus on Anafiotika district.

You will learn more about its history with your guide. And you will have the perfect opportunity to take the most beautiful photos, through the lens of a professional photograph at your disposal to give you tips and help you..

Later, you will walk until a local tavern in the Plaka district and you will enjoy a traditional Greek lunch followed by a short time at leisure in Plaka.

During the afternoon, you will visit the Acropolis Museum, which is an archaeological museum focused on the findings of the archaeological site of the Acropolis of Athens. The museum was built in order to house every artifact found on the rock and at its foot, covering a large period of time from the Greek Bronze Age to Roman and Byzantine Greece. Nearly 4,000 objects are exhibited over an area of 14,000 square metres.

After the Museum visit, time at leisure to strool around the Museum area (about 1 hour), or to visit on your own, the Acropolis site (this visit is not accessible to disabled people). Then short drive back to your hotel (about 15 minutes).

Evening and dinner at leisure.

Day 3 - Athens

Breakfast followed by hotel check-out procedures.

You will walk with your guide until Benaki Museum located in Kolonaki Square (about 10 minutes).

The Benaki Museum ranks among the great benefactions which have enriched the material assets of the Greek State. It is also the oldest museum in Greece. The Museum houses a set of collections comprising many distinct categories and totalling more than 30,000 items that illustrate the Greek world through a spectacular historical panorama: from Antiquity and the age of Roman domination to the medieval Byzantine period, from the fall of Constantinople (1453) and the centuries of Frankish and Ottoman occupation to the outbreak of the struggle for independence in 1821, and from the formation of the modern state of Greece (1830) to 1922, the year in which the Asia Minor disaster took place. Board your vehicle again for a short drive to your hotel.

Following your visit, board your vehicle for a short drive to the meeting point where your local chef will await for you. Combine the best flavors of Athens has to offer, in a master class that involves putting together a menu, shopping for the ingredients in the vibrant central markets of Athens, and actually preparing it, all under the care of a professional chef and expert on Mediterranean cuisine. After collecting everything, you will head to a venue with all the necessary equipment to turn the fresh ingredients into delicious delicacies. With the guidance of the chef, you will enjoy the best meal prepared by yourselves.

You will then be transferred to the pier of Athens to embark on board your ship.

ATHENS, THE BYZANTINE & CHRISTIAN MUSEUM AND PLAKA

iStock_000042616900_Full.jpg

Travel with peace of mind as PONANT organises your day time between your port of disembarkation and the airport.

After disembarkation procedures are completed, you will be greeted at the port by our local English-speaking representative. Then, you will depart the port of Piraeus by coach for an exploration of one of the oldest city in Europe, Athens.

On your way to Athens centre, you will pass by the Zea and Microlimano marinas, two of the most attractive spots in Piraeus.

Your next visit will be at the Byzantine Museum & Christian Museum, one of Greece's national museums. Its areas of competences are centred on - but not limited to - religious artefacts of the Early Christian, Byzantine, Medieval, post-Byzantine and later periods which it exhibits, but also acquires, receives, preserves, conserves, records, documents, researches, studies, publishes and raises awareness of. The museum has over 25,000 artefacts in its possession. The artefacts date from between the 3rd and 20th century AD, and their provenance encompasses the entire Greek world, as well as regions in which Hellenism flourished. The size and range of the collections and value of the exhibits makes the museum a veritable treasury of Byzantine and post-Byzantine art and culture.

At the end of the morning, you will be taken to the Plaka Old District located at the bottom of the Acropolis, in the historic heart of Athens. You will have some free time (about 45 minutes) to explore on foot Plaka's pedestrian shopping streets where you will find jewellery stores, souvenir shops, cafes and restaurants.

You will then be transferred to the airport in time for check-in for the PONANT selected flight.

  • Transfers, visits and entrance fees as mentioned in the programme.
  • Personal expenses and other services not mentioned in the programme.

Duration and order of the visits may vary. To know your PONANT flight schedule, please contact your travel advisor; they are also shown on your electronic ticket included in your travel documents.

In the event of schedule changes of PONANT's selected flight, your programme will be adapted to ensure the most seamless and enriching experience. The content of your revised programme will be updated on the PONANT website, in My Ponant space and on the PONANT app. The final programme will also be sent to you along with your cruise documents.

Spetses Island cruise port

Region Mediterranean - Black Sea

Local Time 2024-04-13 13:48

Port Spetses Island cruise ship schedule shows timetable calendars of all arrival and departure dates by month. The port's schedule lists all ships (in links) with cruises going to or leaving from Spetses Island, Greece. To see the full itineraries (ports of call dates and arrival / departure times) and their lowest rates – just follow the corresponding ship-link.

Spetses Island is part of Greece's Attica Region. It is often considered one of the Argo-Saronic Islands, the largest of which are Salamis, Aegina , Agistri, Poros , Hydra and Dokos. The island has land area approx 27 km2 (11 mi2) and population around 4,000.

Town Spetses is the island's only large settlement. Also part of Spetses Municipality are the neighboring (uninhabited) isles Falkonera, Velopoula and Spetsopoula.

An unusual fact is the lack of private cars within town's limits - so for transportation are used bicycles, mopeds, motorbikes and horse-drawn carriages. Only delivery vehicles and taxis are allowed in downtown. High-speed hydrofoils and ferries arrive regularly from Piraeus-Athens (mainland Greece).

Beaches closest to the town include Agios Mamas (central), Kaiki (1 km northwest) and Agia Marina (2 km south). All offer watersport activities and are served by public buses.

This year, MSC Cruises began calling Greek ports in March, marking the start of year-round operation .

The company’s ships will make over 400 calls to nine different island and mainland destinations around Greece, including the MSC Sinfonia and MSC Opera ships homeporting in Piraeus .

“Greece is very important for us and we see many opportunities for development,” Stiekema said while speaking to an audience of journalists and travel agents on board the MSC Sinfonia while docked at Piraeus on April 4.

Sailing year-round from Piraeus from March to November 2024, the MSC Sinfonia will visit Split (Croatia), Venice (Italy), Brindisi (Italy), and Mykonos . The MSC Opera will also home port from Piraeus from May to October 2024 and visit Kefalonia , Corfu , Katakolon , Bari and Santorini .

Presenting the company’s i tineraries and offers , Stiekema said MSC expects to bring some 500,000 cruise passengers to Greece in 2024.

“That’s massive because these passengers are also buying shore excursions,” he said, adding that the company helps boost local economies as well.

In addition to the MSC Sinfonia’s itinerary, MSC Cruises’s Greece offering includes the MSC Lirica calling to Mykonos and Santorini ; the MSC Armonia to Corfu and Zakynthos ; the MSC Divina to Santorini and Mykonos ; and the MSC Opera to Santorini , Piraeus and Katakolon . The MSC Splendida will also call to Greek ports but destinations have yet to be announced.

Winter calls in Greece for the first time

The MSC Sinfonia will also homeport in Piraeus for a whole winter season , from November 2024 to May 2025, thus extending the cruise season . The ship will include stops in Izmir/Efessos (Turkey), Istanbul (Turkey), Corfu (Greece), and Bari (Italy).

MSC Cruises winter route falls in line with the Greek government’s wider five-year tourism development plan to extend the core visitor season.

According to Stiekema, MSC Cruises considers the route as “a real opportunity” to start developing the winter market from Greece .

“We know that Greece is more of a summer market than a winter one and that used to be the case in Italy, France and other countries… However, over time we’ve managed to create a cruise market for the winter as well and that for sure will happen in Greece,” he said.

Since the announcement of the winter cruise, Stiekema said occupancy volumes a re at a satisfying level. “It’s going in line with expectations from an occupancy perspective and from a price perspective,” he said, adding that numbers will rise mainly after August as the Greeks are known for being “late bookers” and usually make reservations after the summer.

Speaking about MSC’s Greek cruise customers, he pointed out that they add up to around 20,000 and said the company’s aim is to develop the Greek source market.

“It is a tremendous opportunity because 20,000 is tremendously low, so one of our objectives is to really improve this market here with our travel partners… The Greeks need to understand that a cruise is not a ferry and does not just take you from one destination to another… Cruises offer unique experiences both on the ship and at the destinations, experiences way different compared to what they have been experiencing on other holidays,” he said.

“Your cabin takes you directly to the destination… You go to sleep and wake up the next morning and see that you are in Mykonos. This is an experience that is way different from taking a plane, being in the airport, taking a car, going to a hotel.”

Future challenges

Referring to future challenges, Stiekema said that all the more larger capacity cruise ships will create congestion in the port of Piraeus but also in other ports of the Eastern Mediterranean in the coming years.

“We are very actively looking at how we can handle this and what could be other opportunities from a Greek port perspective… What is clear is that we see this as a growth area,” he said.

When asked about the possibility of expressing interest in the tender for the exploitation of the port of Lavrio , Stiekema replied that there are no announcements on the issue.

Staying on the subject of congestion at ports, he said the company this year is reducing pressure on destinations such as Santorini and Mykonos.

“Greece for us is very important so we are looking to take off pressure from the two classic islands – Mykonos and Santorini – due to logistical challenges in the summer… We are looking at other islands,” he said.

MSC Cruises 2024-2025 Greece season sees increased calls to other ports including Kefalonia, Katakolon, Zakynthos and Corfu.

During his presentation, Stiekema introduced the Explora Journeys , the luxury lifestyle ocean travel brand of the MSC Group, which will call to 21 Greek ports in 2024. Many of EXPLORA I’s journeys offering convenient embarkation and disembarkation in Piraeus. Ports of call for EXPLORA I in Greece include Katapola  ( Amorgos ), Paros ,  Patmos and Corfu .

Headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, MSC Cruises is the world’s third largest cruise line and the market leader in Europe, South America, the Middle East and Southern Africa, with a strong and growing presence in North America and the Far East. The MSC Cruises fleet consists of 22 modern ships with three new vessels due to be launched in 2025, 2026, and 2027 . The company operates in more than 100 countries around the world, offering cruises across five continents, calling at more than 300 destinations and welcoming more than 180 different nationalities on board.

Romance and culture await on a Greek Island cruise

It’s no wonder the Greek Islands have always been a perennial favorite of travelers. Greece is a magical, romantic destination where you can wander alongside stunning coastlines, explore the ruins of ancient cultures, and dine on fresh Mediterranean cuisine all in one vacation.

On one of our luxury Greek Island cruises, explore far-flung beaches, drift out to sea on catamarans and kayaks, and duck into tiny tavernas where you can eat and drink like a local. From the sun-soaked stone buildings in Santorini to the white-sand beaches that beckon in Mykonos, a Greece cruise is the best way to experience the captivating Greek Islands.

Greek Island Cruise Highlights

Once-in-a-lifetime experiences.

There is no shortage of unforgettable experiences to be had in Greece. Its seascapes and cityscapes are wondrous, from the mighty ruins of the Acropolis to the buzzing, modern city center of Athens. Visit an olive farm in Crete, or embark on a tour of Mykonos Town’s organic wineries. Or, take an intimate, exclusive cooking lesson on how to make local favorites in Santorini’s main square, right in the middle of it all.

Ancient History

Greece is a world-renowned destination for history buffs. Stroll through the Acropolis and marvel at human achievement, or visit the Museum of Cycladic Art to study Aegean and Cypriot artifacts. Examine the 400-year-old remains of a town buried under volcanic ash outside of Santorini. Explore the historic forts of Corfu, or hop on a boat ride to Delos, said to be the birthplace of Apollo.

Natural Wonders

Discover Elafonisi Beach, a paradise of pink, powdery sand and shallow waters off the island of Crete. Take an unforgettable cruise through the impressive Corinth Canal on a shore excursion in Athens. Stand in awe at the base of Mount Olympus, Greece’s highest mountain and the fabled home of the Greek gods. In Zakynthos, don’t miss a visit to the awe-inspiring Shipwreck Beach, which often tops best-of lists.

Featured Ports

Santorini, Greece

Travelers flock to Santorini for its cobalt-roofed homes, friendly locals, and fine local wine. On this crescent-shaped island, soak up the sun at black-sand beaches like Perissa, or spend a day at the Santorini Caldera, one of the only places in the world to see submerged remnants of an erupted volcano. Sample Greek wines at family-owned wineries dotting the Aegean coast, and take the time to marvel at the incredible panoramas all around you.

Mykonos, Greece

Mykonos is the quintessential Mediterranean beach destination. Choose your favorite to spend the day on, or book a sailing excursion to go beach hopping. Take a day trip beyond Mykonos to the nearby island of Delos, an uninhabited archeological site said to be the birthplace of Greek gods. Experience an authentic side of the island with a home-cooking class, where you’ll sample and prepare delicious local specialties.

Athens, Greece

To visit the capital of Greece is to take a trip back in time, whether you’re exploring the narrow streets of the Plaka District or hiking the Acropolis for well-earned views of the Parthenon. After a day of exploration, pop into a taverna for Mediterranean meze and a cold beer.

7 amazing cruise itineraries to book in 2024

I don't know about you, but each year, as the weather turns cold, I start daydreaming about getting out of Dodge — or, in my case, Pennsylvania. My mind wanders to cruises that will take me to places where the temperature is warmer, but I also take a hard look at the (exceptionally lengthy) list of places I'm longing to visit.

After digging through what's new for 2024, I've come up with a shortlist of sailings that I think are noteworthy. They range from a standard Bahamas voyage with a new twist and an extended Alaska sailing that includes a foray across the Arctic Circle to more far-flung destinations in the Asia-Pacific region.

Dream on, dear reader, and add these to your list of 2024 cruise itineraries.

Note: All prices listed are per person, based on double occupancy, unless otherwise noted. Fares do not include taxes and fees.

Seabourn's 'Kimberley Expedition: Waterfalls and Wandjinas' itinerary

Last year, the Australia and New Zealand cruise region gained momentum following the pandemic shutdown. In 2024, the hardly populated Australia region of The Kimberley is gaining popularity. Luxury cruise brand Seabourn will be offering a series of six 10-night voyages between Broome and Darwin on expedition vessel Seabourn Pursuit during what will be early winter in the southern hemisphere.

The line's " Kimberley Expedition: Waterfalls and Wandjinas " will take passengers to places along the coast few passengers are able to visit to see the stunning teal waters and horizontal waterfalls of Talbot Bay, sample wines in the Hunter River Region and check out nature preserves in Wyndham.

Details: The first sailing, from Darwin to Broome, embarks on June 12. The final voyage, from Broome to Darwin, departs on Aug. 1. Prices start from $6,134 per person ($613 per person, per night), double occupancy, for the July 2 cruise. All accommodations are suites with balconies.

Celebrity's 'Best of Japan' and 'Vietnam and Thailand' cruises

The number of voyages in Asia was trending upward notably prior to 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic brought cruising in the region to an extended halt. And it's once again on the rise. Following that curve, Celebrity Cruises will be running new 11- to 13-night Asia sailings in 2024 on two ships — Celebrity Millennium and Celebrity Solstice — that bring stops in Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Vietnam and Thailand.

What's notable about the offerings is that they will aim to immerse passengers further into the destinations by including overnights in a total of 11 ports across all itineraries. That means more time to explore Hanoi's Old Quarter as the sun sets, indulge in nighttime gastronomy in Hong Kong, visit one of Bangkok's many markets, or learn why Osaka is known for street food.

Details: Celebrity Millennium's " Best of Japan " cruises run from early mid-March to early October. At press time, the least expensive fares — for a 12-night sailing — start from $1,330 per person ($111 per person, per night) for an inside cabin. It travels round-trip from Yokohama and visits Hiroshima, Pusan and other ports, including Osaka, where the ship will overnight.

Celerbrity Solstice's Vietnam and Thailand cruises kick off in mid-January and run through March. The ship will resume them again in the fall of 2024 and run through the winter season. Prices start from $1,255 per person ($105 per person, per night) for an inside cabin. The voyage sails from Hong Kong to Singapore with stops in Da Nang and Koh Samui, plus overnights in Hanoi and Bangkok.

SeaDream's 'Yachting the Adriatic & Greek Isles' sailing

Here's one to put on your radar if you're looking to book — but not necessarily sail — in 2024. It's a new Mediterranean itinerary that doesn't start up for nearly three more years, in 2026. The SeaDream routing brings stops at seven ports that are rarely visited by cruise passengers. During the seven-night voyages, there will be calls at Primosten, Croatia; Cesme, Turkey; Cetubal, Portugal; and Kythira, Kythnos, Syvota and Tinos, Greece — making these sailings unique and well-suited to anyone who loves the region but who's looking for new places to experience.

SeaDream's small ships, each of which carries just 112 people, are able to reach locales about which passengers on megaships can only fantasize. Couple that with excellent service, and you'll be visiting the Our Lady of Loretto statue in Primosten, touring the Cesme Castle and lounging on stunning Greek beaches from a home base that puts you squarely in the lap of luxury.

Details: An itinerary that includes three of the seven new ports is the 11-night " Yachting the Adriatic & Greek Isles " itinerary from Venice, Italy, to Athens, Greece, departing on Aug. 8, 2026, on SeaDream I. Prices start from $10,399 per person ($946 per person, per night) for a room with a porthole view.

Holland America's 'Alaska Arctic Circle Solstice' Legendary Voyage

Alaska is an absolute must for anyone who enjoys the vastness of untouched wilderness, the wildlife it houses and adventurous pursuits it provides. (Think whale-watching, hiking on glaciers and salmon fishing.) However, Holland America 's Westerdam is hosting a 28-day sailing that's anything but your standard cruise to the Last Frontier .

Passengers will visit the usual Alaska ports, such as Ketchikan, Sitka and Juneau, with scenic sailing through the Inside Passage, past Hubbard Glacier and to Glacier Bay. But they can also expect less-common stops at places like Nome, Kodiak, Anchorage (with an overnight) and Homer. Plus, about halfway through, this cruise crosses the Arctic Circle — a rite of passage for many travelers.

Details: Holland America's 28-day " Alaska Arctic Circle Solstice " cruise — one of the line's Legendary Voyages, known for longer durations and a unique mix of port calls — sails June 9-July 7, round-trip from Seattle. Inside cabins start from $5,299 per person (about $189 per person, per night).

Silversea's summertime French Polynesia cruises

Another consideration for future travel is Silversea Cruises , which is featuring its first full-summer season in French Polynesia in 2026. Silver Whisper will offer two immersive itineraries, including overnights, across 17 voyages between April and September.

Passengers can choose seven-night sailings that visit idyllic favorites like Tahiti, Moorea and Huahine and which also include overnights in Bora Bora. Or, they can cruise for twice as long by selecting a 14-night voyage that calls on the same ports as the seven-night option but with Fakarava, Nuku Hiva, Fatu Hiva, Atuona and Tahuata added.

Details: Silversea's seven-night voyages begin April 6, 2026, and start from $5,650 per person ($808 per person, per night) for an ocean-view cabin.

The line's 14-night sailings start on April 20, 2026. Fares start from $10,450 per person ($747 per person, per night) for ocean-view accommodations.

New Bermuda voyages on Carnival Venezia

Beginning in May of 2025, Carnival Cruise Line 's Carnival Venezia will sail a series of eight four- and five-night cruises to Bermuda from New York. These itineraries are notable because the line is aiming to increase its presence there but also because the style of the ship is new to even most of the brand's most dedicated passengers.

In 2022, Carnival announced its Costa by Carnival concept after revealing it would be transferring ships from its Costa sister brand to the Carnival fleet. Now, when travelers visit the Gibb's Hill Lighthouse or check out the island's renowned pink-sand beaches during a sailing on Carnival Venezia, they can enjoy both the Italian style of the ship and Carnival's fun atmosphere and high service standards.

Details: Voyages kick off on May 22, 2025. Prices start from $429 per person ($108 per person, per night) for an inside cabin on a four-night cruise departing Sept. 18, 2025.

Disney Cruise Line's Lighthouse Point itineraries

Disney Cruise Line 's new Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point , a private destination on the Bahamian island of Eleuthera, is set to open in June with a three-night preview sailing on June 6 aboard Disney Magic. Following the initial voyage, the line will run regular three- to seven-night voyages to Lighthouse Point on Disney Magic, Disney Fantasy and Disney Dream.

The island will feature a dedicated family beach and water play area, an arts and culture pavilion focused on Bahamian culture, 20 family cabanas, an adults-only beach and a selection of shore excursion options.

Details: Prices for itineraries that include Lighthouse Point start from $624 per person ($208 per person, per night) for a three-night cruise on Disney Magic. The cruise departs Nov. 5 and sails from Fort Lauderdale's Port Everglades to San Juan, Puerto Rico.
