Your driver provides insightful commentary on the city and shares firsthand experiences of Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath during the 45- to 60-minute drive to the West Pearl River in Slidell. Upon arrival, hop aboard the 14-passenger US Coast Guard–approved vessel, which provides plenty of shade from the Louisiana sun. You and your party will embark on an interactive 2-hour boat tour of Honey Island Swamp, which boasts nearly 70,000 acres (28,327 hectares) of protected wildlife preserve. This private tour for family and friends allows you to spend as much time in one area as your group desires. See the lovely sight of moss hanging from the gnarled cypress trees and take in the sweet smell of wild azaleas. Listen to your captain’s swamp tales of pirates, Bigfoot sightings and prehistoric creatures, and keep your eyes peeled for alligators, herons, egrets, deer, feral hogs, nutria, raccoons, otters, turtles and frogs along the riverbanks and lurking in the murky waters below. Also be on the lookout for bald eagles, owls, osprey and other water fowl soaring through the sky. Passing through a Cajun village where local fisherman reside, you may observe them catching bluegill, sunfish, largemouth bass, alligator gar, flathead catfish, freshwater drum and buffalo fish in addition to thousands of pounds of crawfish caught in these waters each season. • Smarterchoices 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Why you should choose this tour Fantastic trip. We took visitors to a nearby tour last week. We chose this company for this week's visitors. While similar, this one spent more time in the actual swamp. This tour did not have a huge Pavillion where we were divided into groups wearing wristbands like a cruise ship. It felt more intimate. The office is a small cabin with clean bathrooms. The gift shop is small. It carries appropriate items and no pressure to purchase anything. There are some small snack items available if needed. Our Captain, Roy, was great. He is a local man who was well versed in swamp flora, fauna and lifestyle. The boat was covered, and there isn't a bad seat. It was full, but not crowded. You start on the Pearl River. You see real homes and "camp homes." We saw turtles and gators up close. Definitely worth the price for a 2 hour tour. We'll bring our next visitors here. Don't forget to tip your captain, he/she keeps you safe! Read more Written April 24, 2024

  • Champagneproblems 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Such a fun experience Our recent trip on the Honey Island Swamp Tour was absolutely so much fun! Captain Hunter, our guide, was fantastic. He knew everything there was to know about the swamp and made the whole experience so much fun, especially for the kids on our class trip. Captain Hunter was super interactive and really great at keeping everyone entertained. He told us cool stories and even got the kids involved by asking questions and making the tour really engaging. We saw so much wildlife! Alligators, raccoons, turtles, and even snakes! It was like being in our own little nature documentary. And it was perfect timing for our Louisiana unit in class. Captain Hunter shared interesting facts and stories that tied in perfectly with what we've been learning. Overall, I can't recommend the Honey Island Swamp Tour enough. Captain Hunter made it an unforgettable experience, and we all had a blast. Whether you're a local or just visiting, this tour is a must-do for an awesome adventure in Louisiana's wild side! Also, absolutely request Captain Hunter -- he made the tour! Read more Written April 18, 2024

  • mayacosmos 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles The best way to experience the magic of the Bayou If you want to see the bayou firsthand the only way to do it is by traversing the canals and waterways by boat. Dr Wagners e swamp tours is knowledgeable and thorough. Our guide Pat was gentle, patient, super interesting and clearly loved the area and knew it well. Very authentic exploration of visiting the magical inlets of the Bayou. We saw a lot of the wildlife as well as experienced the captivating beauty of the “swamps” We meandered up and down the water ways on a picture perfect day and mostly were the only group on the trail Pat took us on. It’s hard to take a “bad” photo as wherever you look there’s a photo to be taken. End of March was optimal as the waterway was high and the temps were perfect. The foliage was just turning green and filling in so it allowed us to see deep into the bayou. So interesting to view the “camps” that were accessible only by boat. A very interesting way to live or get away from life. Very reasonable price and the two hours flew by - gave one a really good feel for the area. Pat recommended some great lunch spots after the tour. Would do this tour over and over again. Read more Written April 1, 2024
