I was lucky to visit Virginia which is a very popular state of USA. The Shenandoah valley was one of the best places I had seen while my visit to Virginia. The east side of the valley consisted of the Blue Ridge Mountains which was great scenery. I also had a chance to go to Shenandoah national park which was blessed with vistas, wooded hollows and also beautiful water falls. Moving further on people really forced me to visit the Virginia Natural Bridge, initially I had no mode to visit the place, however at last I decided to visit, I was stunned to see limestone terrain.

I was having a day off and luckily took to this trip to a popular USA state Virginia. Everyone told me it was the best chance I had got to visit the Virginia Natural Bridge. I was amazed to see the terrain in limestone.

The whole tour of ours was planned and organized by the Golden Bus Tours. The initial strategy was to visit all the famous destinations of Washington DC. The travel agency managed things pretty well and our plan was implemented wonderfully well. I thank Golden Bus Tours for all they had done.

You won’t see a better guided tour than this one. I had never been to these places before and needed a well guided tour like this one to make and trip to Virginia memorable. I have already recommended this tour to my friends and cousin.

While I was in Washington DC for my job, I decided to take this one day tour to the western Virginia with my fiancé. I was expecting that they will take us to many places for a complete one day journey. But the places they let us visit were the best and worth it. Shenandoah National Park & Luray Caverns are wonderful, especially at the Luray cave system; the underground attractions are too many. I could have played much better piano at the Great Stalactite Organ in underground Luray caves; it was definitely a majestic place to visit. I will try to another depart on another bus tour when I get to Washington next time.

Well, too bad that this journey is only offered on the Saturdays, but I had to depart on it because my family made a plan to go visit the destination the tour is offering. However, in a morning the bus arrive at Washington DC at sharp 7:45 AM to pick the visitors. The first destination was Luray Caverns in Virginia; I liked that interesting place and we also happened to learn so much about it. And after that, we took a never-ending bus ride through Shenandoah National Park, although we stopped at some of its lovely spots and trails. It was good!

Highly recommend to all. This time I picked one day tour. It was simply outclassed. The drive was perfect with breathtaking views, great exploration and adorable locations. I can’t explain the beauty of places in words. The driver and guide was very decent and well-mannered; they insure to satisfy every traveler. Our driver also makes quick stops as per our desire. Thanks for the services.

I joined this tour with my girlfriend. We were so happy at the end of the day. Tour completely met our expectations or it is more than what we were thinking. Places were beautiful. Our tour guide was a man of day, he was an excellent guide, a positive and decent man. Thanks for making our day memorable. Highly recommend this tour.

Dean was a very nice man and informative guide in this tour. A large group of people joined this short trip and mostly natives were dominating the trip because of its short nature. Only a few foreigners were there. Tour guide seemed to be very flexible in every step and he was always there to meet our needs. I was so particular about my protein intake and he got it very well. He told me and guided me well to find good healthy eating options in an amazing way. Places were really good and very smart planning was done in this short trip. Few places with some time long drive entertained me a lot. I enjoyed a lot and clicked the beauty of places like waterfalls of Shenandoah National Park and Luray Caverns. Both places were exceptional in their beauty. The weather was very good to comfort us and that’s why my all clicks appeared incredibly beautiful. I had an amazing time and I am sure that whoever decides to pick this tour will have the best time in this trip. Thanks a lot!

It was a short tour with a small group of people. I found this aspect the best one because I do not like noisy environment inside the bus. As our trip began I was so relaxed because the music was really so peaceful and people inside the bus were enjoying it with the relaxed mood (although some were switched to their headphones, maybe they did not like that smooth music). Steve (perfectly dressed up) was our guide who was excellent in his job and guided us so well. Seats were very comfortable and hygiene was well maintained inside the bus. Places were super cool and I loved the long drive of two hours along with a scenic ride through Virginia’s western mountains a lot. I can certainly recommend it to the people who love sightseeing the attractions of nature. It can be a good addition in the travel diaries of nature lovers. Thanks a lot!

What You Need to Know About Exploring Luray Caverns

Luray Caverns is a beautiful and ancient American cave in the Shenandoah Valley region of Virginia. People have flocked to marvel at the Luray Caverns’ massive rooms and clear pools of water since 1878. This cave even houses the gigantic natural musical instrument, the Stalacpipe Organ. Read on to find out exactly what you need to know about visiting and exploring Luray Caverns.

Exploring Luray Caverns

The tour of Virginia’s Luray Caverns takes place over 1.25 miles of a paved walkway, and it usually takes a little over an hour to complete. Since the temperature and conditions inside the caves are not dependent on outside weather, tours are not often called off. The temperature inside the Luray Caverns is around 54 degrees, but the high humidity makes it feel like 65 degrees. The tour does include staircases and some steep slopes, so it is recommended that you wear appropriate shoes.

Reservations

Reservations are not necessary at Luray Caverns; however, the Reservation Office is available to discuss optimal service for groups of at least 20 individuals. These groups are eligible to receive a discount, and we will arrange for preassigned entry so that your group can go on the tour together. Smaller groups of visitors may join any tour. A new tour begins roughly every 20 minutes.

The Stalacpipe Organ

The Stalacpipe Organ is the largest musical instrument created, making use of over three acres of stalactites and cavernous echoes to create a magnificent organ sound. A console of four keyboards and wiring that spans over more than five miles come together to control this instrument; although the organ is sometimes played manually, it is usually set to automatically play seasonal songs.

What to Wear in the Cavern

Don’t determine what to wear based on the weather outdoors when you go. The cavern is underground and is consistently 54 degrees. I would suggest you bring a sweatshirt and pants with you to wear on your tour. You could always switch back into shorts in the summer after your cavern tour.

How Long Does It Take to Walk

The walking tour in Luray Caverns takes a little over an hour to complete. You will be walking over 1.25 miles of paved sidewalks on your tour. Don’t rush your walk as you will want to take in all the amazing views.

What to See in Luray Cavern

While walking through the Luray Caverns you'll see amazing stalagmites and stalactites on your 1 hour tour of the cavern.

To get to the cave, you will walk down a looping covered walkway. At the bottom, you will be met by a guide who will give you some history of the cave. Then begin to follow a sloping paved walkway around the cavern. Expect to spend a little over an hour seeing the whole cavern.

Depending on how busy they are, you may have a guide who walks with you or guides strategically placed throughout the cavern to tell you about the highlights in each area.

When the guides are spread throughout the cavern it’s nice because you can go at your own pace rather than following someone.

Luray Caverns has 10 story high ceilings and wide passageways so you will never feel claustrophobic walking around. It really is enormous!

Everywhere you look are huge stalagmites and stalactites to admire. Guides will point out the different colors of the stalagmites and give you an idea of when they were formed.

You will also learn the interesting story of how the cavern was discovered in 1878 by five local men.

Luray Caverns reflecting lake showing off the stalactite hanging from above.

Some highlights are the sparkling lake that reflects the ceiling to make it look like the formations are also coming up from the ground. This illusion was really cool to see! Look at the picture above.

Luray Caverns Organ

Luray Caverns Virgnia is famous for its Stalacpipe Organ. This cool organ actually plays music and can be heard and seen on a tour of the Luray Cavern.

One of the most famous areas of the cave is the Luray Caverns Organ. This great Stalacpipe Organ is made out of ancient stone formations and plays amazing music. As part of the tour, you will get to hear it play.

At the end of the tour, you will find the wishing well with beautiful turquoise waters. Make sure to have a few coins to throw in to make a wish.

The end of the tour will let you out at the Luray Caverns Store. Just a warning for those who have kids that beg for toys in the store.

Shenandoah Heritage Village

Shenandoah Heritage Village located at Luray Caverns in Virginia.

The Shenandoah Heritage Village has two areas to explore. First, enter the Luray Valley Museum a small museum that displays the history of Shenandoah Valley and the people who lived here.

Inside you will find a collection of artifacts from the 1750s to the 1920s. This area has a lot of history for both kids and adults to peruse.

how long to tour luray caverns

The second area is a collection of restored historic buildings making a recreation of a small 19th-century farming community.

There are eight historic structures to explore in the 7-acre recreation ranging from an 1800’s farmhouse, one of the oldest African American schools, an 1860’s barn filled with agriculture artifacts, a blacksmith shop, and Elk Run Meetinghouse from the early 1800s.

While we were there, a blacksmith was working in the shop and showed the kids how to make a spoon and fork. He was great at answering all the kid’s questions.

Stoneyman Mining Company Gem Sluice in the Shenandoah Heritage Village. A fun kids activity to do while visiting Luray Caverns Virginia.

The kids favorite part was mining for gems. You buy a bag of “gems” in a bag of sand in the museum store. Then take it outside to Stoneyman Mining Company Gem Sluice.

It’s a mining station where the kids can shift their sand through the water stations to discover their gems just like the pioneers did. Kids will leave with some cool gems and fun memories.

A treat for adults is the Heart Cafe, a historic cafe that serves small snacks and wine tasting. A perfect stop while touring the Luray Valley Museum. Get the kids a treat and yourself a glass of wine.

Car and Carriage Caravan Museum

Car and Carriage Caravan Museum located at Luray Caverns Virginia. A historic car museum included in your tickets to visit Luray Cavern.

In the Car and Carriage Caravan, you will find rows of more than 140 items to teach you the history of transportation. Start out viewing transportation from all the way back to 1725 and end up in the 1950s.

Kids and adults will love looking at these old cars and wagons to see how things have changed over the years. It is included in the cost of your ticket so it’s worth the 20-30 minute stop. The building is located right next to the entrance to the Luray Caverns.

Toy Town Junction

Toy Town Junction Museum located on the grounds of Luray Caverns. Included in your ticket price to visit Luray Caverns this is a fun historic look at toys over the century.

We know kids love toys so why not take a walk through this cute toy museum. Train lovers will be so excited to see a massive collection of over 30 trains plus miniature theme areas and thousands of historic toys.

Our kids really enjoyed looking at all the old toys and comparing them to the toys they play with today.

This attraction is also included in your ticket price and can be a quick stop depending on how long you want to look. It is located next to the Car and Carriage Caravan.

Additional Attractions Not Included in Your Ticket Price

Garden maze.

This is a one-acre ornamental garden maze that the kids can run through as they search for the way out. It’s one of the largest garden mazes in the Mid-Atlantic.

The Rope Adventure Park

Rope Adventure Park for kids located at Luray Cavern Virginia.

The Rope Adventure Park is located right behind the Car and Carriage Caravan Museum. The park is a huge three-level ropes course. There are lower and higher levels depending on your child’s skill and comfort level.

Kids are attached to a harness and pulley system to walk through the ropes course. So it’s pretty safe and fun to explore. We ran out of time to try this course but it looked really cool.

Tips for Your Visit

***Luray Caverns can easily be a whole-day adventure for your family. There are so many activities to keep everyone busy and excited. Check out these final tips for your visit

***Luray Caverns is a constant 54 degrees inside. I would suggest bringing a sweatshirt, even if it’s warm outside, the caverns will be cool inside.

***There are no bathrooms down in the cavern so make sure to have everyone go before you enter the cavern. There are bathrooms located right before you go in.

***Strollers – Luray has now added a stairless entry so this should make it easier with strollers. The paths are paved and somewhat smooth to push the stroller once you’re down in the cavern.

***Wheelchairs – The Cavern is now wheelchair accessible with the addition of the ramp entrance.

***Food – There are picnic table areas available if you want to bring your own snack/lunch. You will also find two places to buy food on the property. One is by the Luray Caverns’ entrance and the other is in the Luray Museum area.

***Parking – There is a large parking lot and it’s free

***If you want to come and just do the Ropes Course and Garden Maze, you can just buy those tickets at the entrance to the activities.

Endless Caverns is an extraordinary underground marvel that has captivated visitors for nearly 150 years.

The caverns were discovered in 1879 as a deep hole hidden beneath boulders that marked the beginning of a timeless journey.

Nestled at the base of the Massanutten Mountain range, this remarkable six-mile cave system, one of the largest, continues to hold secrets with unexplored areas awaiting discovery. Traverse the enchanting cave rooms and awaken by the breathtaking limestone formations that adorn this natural masterpiece.

Since 1920, Endless Caverns has delighted visitors with its awe-inspiring display of formations in their natural colors. Despite numerous expeditions, the complex network of underground passageways, currently mapped for six miles, remains a mystery, with vast portions of the cave system remaining uncharted.

Guided tours lasting 75 minutes allow guests to explore this world-famous Virginia Cavern while knowledgeable guides provide insights into its unique geology and fascinating history.

Fascinating caverns are scattered throughout Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley, and among them, Endless Caverns stands out as one of the most mysterious.

The cave’s story begins in 1879 when two boys, hunting rabbits, stumbled upon a hidden world beneath the earth.

Moving rocks to flush out their prey, they discovered an opening that led them into a subterranean wonderland of natural chambers, passages, and peculiar stone formations.

Not long after its discovery, guided tours of the cave commenced, and in 1920, electricity was added to illuminate the vastly expanding world underground.

Despite its long history and numerous endeavors to uncover its depths, Endless Caverns remains only partially open to the public, shrouded in the mystery of its true extent. Its name is endless because, until now, explorers have failed to find an end to it. How mysterious!

  • A World Going On Underground: Endless Caverns is a limestone solution cave formed by the slow erosion of softer minerals, resulting in intricate passages and rooms. It is a “living cave” that continues to evolve over time.
  • Fascinating Speleothems: The cave is adorned with various speleothems, including stalactites, stalagmites, flowstone, straws, columns, cave corals, and more. The Cathedral Room showcases stunning shield formations.
  • Home to Wildlife: Endless Caverns is home to colonies of bats, primarily little brown bats, which can be observed along the tour route.
  • Narrower than most show caves:  Endless Caverns distinguishes itself from many other show caves with its cave-like ambiance, characterized by narrow crevices rather than wide walkways.

Attractions of Endless Caverns

  • Guided Cave Tour: Explore the depths of Endless Caverns on a 75-minute guided tour led by knowledgeable guides. Discover the countless tunnels and chambers as you learn about the cave’s history and composition.
  • Family-Friendly Activities: Besides the cave tour, Endless Caverns offers a range of activities for the whole family, including hiking trails, fishing at the catch & release pond, and nearby attractions like the New Market Battlefield and Shenandoah River.
  • Speleothems: Speleothem, known as cave formations, are fascinating features found within caves. Most speleothems comprise travertine, a crystalline-textured sedimentary rock made of calcite (CaCO3). Travertine forms in caves and springs through the precipitation of crystals from water. While pure travertine is white, the colors observed in the showcased travertine result from iron oxides. There is a wide range of travertine speleothem formations, the most common being dripstone. The continuous dripping of water creates Dripstone, including stalactites, stalagmites, columns, and draperies. Another prevalent variety is flowstone, resembling frozen waterfalls formed by water flow.
  • Travertine Shield: A remarkable example of travertine speleothem is the travertine shield. Shields are a rare type of speleothem, taking on a disc-like structure as water is forced out of cracks in the cave walls due to hydrostatic pressure. Dripstone flowstone often forms below the edges of shields, adding to the cave’s mesmerizing beauty.

10AM A Picture-Perfect Start

One of the great things about Luray is the location. You have super easy access to Shenandoah National Park , which is perfect if you’re looking to go hiking, take in a breathtaking view, or have two little boys obsessed with going into the woods and finding “creepy crawlies”.

So, after breakfast we hopped in the car and headed to Skyline Drive to take in the beautiful views of the Shenandoah and look for a good place to adventure. After passing a few different overlooks, we decided to stop at Stony Man Overlook which had a bigger parking lot and a path into the mountains.

Luray Stony Man Overlook

When we got out of the car it was still a cool-ish summer morning. By the time we reached the top, the summer heat we had been having was kicking in. I was so thankful the path we took was shaded.

The boys found plenty of creepy crawlies and there were a ton of butterflies to chase around. A TON!

At the top, they really enjoyed walking along the ledge (with me close by of course), looking out over the valley, and taking in the cool breeze that was blowing.

I don’t think you really can go wrong on picking a path along Skyline Drive. The whole area is so beautiful, you can start anywhere and just walk until you’re happy where you wind up.

12PM Luray-Hawksbill Greenway

On the way back into town, we stopped to get some more outdoors time at the Luray-Hawksbill Greenway Trail. It’s a fantastic multi-use path that follows along Hawksbill Creek and runs through the center of Luray. It really gives Luray a touch of character that makes it such a fun little town.

Luray Hawksbill Greenway

There are a bunch of murals to see as well as the more natural works of art – flowers. So many beautiful flowers!

While walking we came across a crazy amount of ducks. SO MANY!

There was a local couple there with a HUGE bucket of bird feed and they let the boys take their turns feeding the ducks. Some loved it. Some were a little scared (me).

Chris also took the boys out in the creek to play on the rocks and cool off a little bit. There were some incidents of splashing, but no tears were sighted.

1PM Warehouse Art Gallery

Just a bit off the Greenway is the Warehouse Art Gallery . As you probably guessed from the name, it is in an old warehouse that has art in it and, side note, is way bigger than I thought it was going to be.

Luray Warehouse Arts Gallery

If you’ve never tried taking young children into an art gallery, it can be pretty hit or miss. This art gallery has such a variety of art that the boys actually really enjoyed the whole experience and were plenty entertained. So that’s a win.

There’re paintings, sculptures, photography, jewelry, pottery, and pretty much anything you can think of (and some you couldn’t). It’s bright, open, and fun and they have over 1,000 creative works by 90 regional artists on display.

Luray Warehouse Arts

We were only there for a little bit, but they say they switch out the art fairly often. You never know what you’ll find on any given day.

2PM Luray Depot & Railway Museum

You know that tricky time of any outing with your kids where they’re on the cusp of needing a nap, but they’ve still got enough energy to put up a fight? We were on that cusp coming out of the art gallery and we decided to roll the dice because…

Luray Train Museum

Literally right across the street was the Luray Depot and Train Museum. Anything with trains is guaranteed to get these kids excited. There’s just something about boys and trains that I am never going to be able to fully understand. They love them. Simple as that. Even hubby got that little sparkle in his eye that just screams, “OH BOY! A TRAIN!!!”

The way they have the museum laid out and setup is really neat, as in interesting. It’s also really clean and very well organized. There was even a model train running along the inside. The boys LOVED it. Each time it came back around it was like they were seeing it for the very first time.

Boys and trains..." — Chris

After we went through the museum, we went out back to where the actual train track is, hoping to see one up close. Unfortunately, none went by while we were there.

They do have telescopes for you to look down the track with and watch the trains roll on in. Maybe next time. ☺

2:30PM Hawksbill Trading

This was a cute little shop that you would 100% assume you’d find in a small town like Luray. It had that small town, antiquey, eclectic feel and I LOVED IT!

What’s really cool about Hawksbill Trading is that it is a vendor-owned cooperative, all from Luray. So it’s kind of a small business made up of smaller businesses, which is so cool.

Luray Hawksbill Trading

They offer arts and crafts, produce and baked goods, accessories, gifts, home décor, and antiques. All under one roof. And all of it amazing.

The boys were into it, but mostly because there were MORE toys that we eventually had to pull them away from. After purchasing a few of course. ☺

4PM Hawksbill Brewing

We were interested in trying some of the local craft beer so we stopped at Hawksbill Brewing Company , conveniently located off the Greenway, to cool off for a bit.

Hawksbill Brewing Company not only brews their beer locally, but nearly all of the ingredients are grown in Luray as well. I don’t know for sure if that is what makes the beer absolutely delicious, but I am going to go ahead and say it does.

Luray Hawksbill Brewing

Also, an entire chalk wall and section for the kids to make a mess? Can you beat that? Nope." — Natalie

The boys had a blast drawing on the giant chalk wall while we enjoyed our beer. It was the perfect place to cool down.

Luray Hawksbill Brewing Playspace

Once everyone was ready, we headed back out to the Greenway.

5PM Mimslyn Inn

After Hawksbill , we all decided we had tempted fate enough and headed to the Mimslyn Inn to put the boys down for a nap.

The AC felt soooooo refreshing after being out in the heat all day. We had some snacks, chilled out, and rehydrated. We even got in a little pool time with the older boys which was awesome.

Mimslyn Inn & Manor House

I forgot to mention that this was a joint adventure with my sister-in-law and her family. In total there were four adults and four kids, ranging in age from 2-5 (the kids, not the adults, obviously).

We rented The Manor House at The Mimslyn Inn. Totally worth it.

The Manor House sleeps 16 people across six bedrooms with bed sizes ranging from kings to bunkbeds to a sofa sleeper and plenty of bathrooms. Like I said, totally worth it for each kid to get their own room.

Today was the big day. Today was the day we were going to take the boys into Luray Caverns . They were excited. Chris and I were excited.

All we had to do was get through breakfast... ...which we did.

11AM Luray Caverns

This was the boys’ first trip to Luray Caverns. Chris and I had both visited before years ago. Like almost every kid that grew up within a 100-mile radius, we took field trips here back in elementary school.

First of all, the Caverns are AMAZING. The formations are awesome to see. Just nature being nature. The stalactites, the stalagmites, it’s all just amazing. Then add in this other element to it that’s hard to describe. It’s like seeing a visual of how time passes because they have taken so long to form and that just adds into the WOW factor. And it is HUGE!

Luray Caverns

It wasn’t lost on the boys either, which was something we were a little worried about. With young ones, you can never be too sure if they’ll grasp just how amazing something is. I don’t know if they fully got it, but they were still blown away. They kept saying they felt like they were in another world. Oh, little minds.

The tour lasts about an hour and involves a little over a mile-long walk, which is very doable. Kellen, my youngest, got a little restless towards the end but once Chris picked him up, he relaxed.

I think we all loved Dream Lake the most but ask me again tomorrow and my answer will probably be different." — Natalie

12PM Car and Carriage Caravan Museum

After the Caverns we visited the Car and Carriage Caravan Museum , which is included with your tickets. It’s also located right next door which was a big plus.

I don’t know who liked the cars more, the parents or the kids! The boys are into just about anything mechanical (cars, trains, trucks) and Chris is super into cars. I liked that the tour was self-guided so we could go at our own pace.

It was so sweet seeing Chris walk the boys through the evolution of cars. He’d read the plaques and they would say, “OH COOL!” and then ask questions if they had them. They went back to re-read some of them if they couldn’t figure out how the cars had changed. SO CUTE!

Luray Car Museum

Afterwards, we stopped and got some fudge from the fudge shop that is right in the museum. I am not going to lie the fudge was DELICIOUS! HOLY COW!

Luray Fudge Factory

12:30PM Shenandoah Heritage Village

We then headed over to the Luray Valley Museum to begin exploring the Shenandoah Heritage Village. They had a bible from the 1500s (Kellen asked if I was older than that because apparently he thinks I’m the oldest person on the planet) and a dog-powered butter churn!

But the fun doesn’t end there. The village isn't just one building but an entire collection of historic buildings from around the area that were moved and rebuilt piece-by-piece. So we walked around to experience some living history.

Shenandoah Heritage Village

We met Mr. Fey the Blacksmith and watched him make a keychain. The boys practically did backflips when he gave it to us.

There was also an 18th-century cooking demo going on where they made donuts…from potatoes. Holy geez, they were great! They make something different every week, so there's always something new to try.

The donuts got our appetites going so we popped into the Heartpine Café, located in the Burner Barn. We had some great sandwiches, some great wine (Chris and I, not the boys 😜), and some great views of the Blue Ridge Mountains while we recharged.

Heartpine Cafe

When we were ready to get moving again the boys really wanted to go panning for “treasure” at the Stonyman Mining Company Gem Sluice. So we bought each of them a gem bag and had so much fun getting a hands on history lesson.

The boys did get to go home with some “treasure” like quartz, amethysts and red jasper.

After taking a step way back in time, we headed over to Toy Town Junction.

1PM Toy Town Junction

Our next stop was Toy Town Junction which is also included with your ticket to Luray Caverns. It is also located right next door to the Car and Carriage Caravan Museum.

Like the name suggests, Toy Town Junction is a collection of various toys. There’s a toy train that runs around and so many toys EVERYWHERE.

Anything with trains is a win with the boys. Toys, too – double win! " — Chris

It was hard to pull them away, but we had made plans to do the Garden Maze. And the boys were really excited to see if they could beat me and Chris to the end of it.

The race of the century was about to go down.

1:30PM Garden Maze

The Garden Maze was the last stop on the property. Even though it was pretty hot (I know I keep mentioning that, but seriously it was), they had misters running throughout so you got a nice, cool mist the whole time.

how long to tour luray caverns

The kiddos ran around like crazy and we may or may not have lost them on occasion. But they were really enjoying the game aspect of the entire thing.

I’m not going to say that Chris and I didn’t try to win, but I also won’t say that we let them win. It definitely proved that kids have a better sense of direction than adults.

Or at least our kids do.

2PM Flotzies

We had looked online beforehand for some ice cream places we could take the boys to. Flotzies is a local ice cream stop that had AWESOME reviews. Plus anytime you do dessert BEFORE dinner is a huge mom win.

how long to tour luray caverns

It most definitely lived up to the reviews! Not only that, but there were a TON of options. Like, almost overwhelming.

I went with some cherry shaved ice, while everyone else got ice cream. The boys were talking a big game about all the toppings they were going to get but, in the end, they went with their favorites: a very simple chocolate/vanilla ice cream with sprinkles.

It was the perfect way to keep everyone happy on a hot summer day.

3PM Wisteria Farm and Vineyard

After we had recharged and relaxed, it was time for the parents to indulge in their own fun and try some of the local wine. We loaded the boys up in the car and headed out to the Wisteria Farm & Vineyard .

how long to tour luray caverns

What’s cool about Wisteria is that the whole winemaking process happens right on their farm, from growing the grapes to bottling. Plus their layout and location is GORGEOUS!

You can hang out on their porch, walk through the grapes (or run like Kellen did), or sit and swing without a care in the world. There’s even a flock of sheep and free-range chickens running around. They sell yarn and eggs from said sheep and chickens, respectively.

how long to tour luray caverns

All the running around got the boys a little overheated so we took them down to a little creek at the edge of the property where they were able to cool off.

Around this time, the boys became very vocal about wanting to do something other than “adult time” and that was our cue that it was time to pack up and head home.

Hitting the Road

All in all, our trip to Luray was everything we could have hoped for with the boys. Everything is close enough that you can do just about anything and not have to worry about missing nap time… or pool time.

And it’s so great to get away to a place where everyone is super nice without driving super far. I can definitely see Luray getting put into our regular rotation of family trip destinations.

Can’t wait for next time!
