Kings of Leon (formed in 2000) is an American alternative family rock band hailing from Nashville, Tennessee, in the U.S.
After the divorce of their parents, brothers Nathan and Caleb Followill moved to Nashville, Tennessee where they met songwriter Angelo Petraglia who introduced the pair to the influences of Thin Lizzy, The Rolling Stones and The Clash. In 1999 youngest brother Jared inspired by the Pixies and The Velvet Underground and cousin Matthew also moved to Nashville and Kings of Leon was born.
In 2002 Nathan and Caleb caught the attention of RCA Records who said they would be sending an A&R rep to hear them play. The band kidnapped Matthew from his home and spent a month in the brothers’ basement where they carved out the tracks “Molly’s Chamber”, “California Waiting” and “Wicker Chair”. A year later with Jared still unable to play bass, Kings of Leon released the “Holy Roller Novocaine” EP to critical reviews, receiving a considerable amount of exposure.
Kings of Leon have gone on to be one of the most successful rock bands of the 2000s, fusing their climatic Southern rock and blues influences to increasingly accessible results. The band released their debut “Youth & Young Manhood” in 2003 and subsequently “Aha Shake Heartbreak” in 2004, “Because of the Times” in 2007, “Only by the Night” in 2008, “Come Around Sundown” in 2010 and “Mechanical Bull” in 2013.
The band’s initial success was in the UK with nine Top 40 singles, two BRIT Awards in 2008 and all their five albums peaking in the Top 5 of the UK Albums chart. Following the release of “Only by the Night” in 2008 the band won the hearts of American fans largely helped by the radio-friendly “Sex on Fire”, “Use Somebody” and “Notion”. At the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards the group took home awards for Record of the Year for “Only by the Night”, Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song for “Use Somebody”.
Due to the band international success and popularity of “Only by the Night” In 2008 Kings of Leon headlined Glastonbury festival followed by headlining slots at Reading & Leeds, Sasquatch, Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits the year after.
Live reviews
!!best concert I ever attended!!
Everything (support band and kings of Leon themselves) started perfectly on time and it was a great show. The music was way better than any record could ever capture!! Hitting every note perfectly you could definitely see the band trying to do more than their best while looking so effortless and natural. Somehow every song they performed was "clearer" / more refined or nuanced (as you could hear the different instruments creating a song rather than a blurred, smeared sound as a whole) and kind of more intense than on the record: the slow, sometimes sad ones were more touching and really making me feel the emotion created by the music and the faster ones were much more rocking and engaging. The way they incorporated the audience and the atmosphere with everybody in the crowd singing the lyrics along at the top of their lungs, shouting, dancing and jumping around made it a very special event! As I was standing in the front row the whole event was made even more perfect by the fact that I was able to catch not only one but even two of the huge amount of plectrums (not sure wether this is the right plural of this word ^^) that the whole band was throwing in the crowd during their gig and a friend of mine even got a drum stick! All in all it was an evening full of highlights that made me discover a whole new side to their music but my personal favorite and definitely most emotional moment was a 10 minute version of pyro when the band somehow managed to reach every single person in the audience and make them participate (at least they made me feel like it).
Finally I want to point out that I personally never was I huge Kings of Leon fan - don't get me wrong, I always liked their music and knew the lyrics to their most common songs (like sex on fire, use somebody and waste a moment) but never got really excited for them like I did for other musicians or was actively listening to them, just once in while when I was feeling like it and then only the songs mentioned above. But this concert definitely changed my feelings towards them and reached something in me emotionally which I didn't even know existed! I really don't know how they managed to do that but I feel like I see things differently than before and it was probably one of the best moments in my entire life so far (and I really don't think that anything only close to that will happen to me in the any soon!). I would give everything to see them again soon but I think for me (living in Germany) it was kind of a rare opportunity :(
So to sum up I would really recommend to go see them if you have the chance to as it was a revelation to me! At first I thought that the tickets were too expensive but after this performance I would pay more than twice as much to get to experience a concert of them again.

When it first came to my attention that Kings of Leon had announced a summer series of one-off shows I knew it was vital that I managed to bag a ticket. The announcement soon came after the release of their sixth studio album 'Mechanical Bull' which soared straight to the top of the charts instantly after its release.
It was inevitable that the show would include tracks from this highly anticipated album, but with the bands huge success since they first burst onto the scene in 2003 it was inevitable that their huge number of singles would also be making an appearance. Leading up the performance we were treated with support acts 'Twin Atlantic' and 'HAIM' only giving us a small taster of what we should expect later in the evening. Racking up such a huge following over the years it was only expected that fans of the band would come out in force to see the band in person which is quite a rarity. The set list was carefully selected allowing us to share in their success over the years with a combination of their hits since the start of their career, only ensuring that all the crowds requests were met. It is true that this band do not interact with the audience as much as other artists do, but what they lack in conversation they definitely make up for in talent. Watching this band live felt monumental, they harbour such a talent and have carried with them their rock roots throughout their time in the industry.
Of course their most famous singles 'Sex on Fire' and 'Use Somebody' caused the biggest roar from the crowd all night but combined with their earlier rock ballads, this night was unforgettable. If you were to take anything away from this review, it would be say yes to buying a ticket to see this band as soon as you possibly can.
I had the opportunity to see the Kings of Leon at the Milwaukee Summerfest and other than them coming on late, only singing an hour and a half and not doing my two favorites, I was not disappointed. Since I'm fairly new to the Kings of Leon, I'm not familiar with a lot of their songs but I still enjoyed them tremendously. The songs that I knew sounded even better live than they do on their albums and their performance of most of the songs that I didn't know made me want to add those songs to my collection.
While they aren't the best vocalists, they are excellent musicians and they showcased their skills throughout the show. Additionally, from the time the concert began to the time it ended, it was all about the music. Other than graciously thanking the audience a few times, there was very little dialogue and they truly let the music "speak" in its stead.
After such awesome showmanship, naturally I was extremely disappointed when they concluded their concert after only an hour and a half, especially after not hearing my favorites. As a matter of fact, I was so disappointed that I had initially decided seeing them wasn't worth the two and a half hour drive I took to get there plus the cost of the ticket and that I wouldn't see them again. In hindsight however, I'm glad I went because their performance in and of itself was awesome. The jury is still out as to whether I'll see them again but at this point, I won't rule it out.
Kings of Leon is one of my favorite bands to see live: these guys just tend to have a great time, party, and drink along with the rest of us in the crowd! They have been around for quite a few years and really started taking off in the mid-2000s, but they still know their roots. They are all brothers and cousins so they have a connection all of their own, and Caleb's vocals are like a gateway to let us join in on the family too. They tend to play more arenas and amphitheaters these days since they are so huge, but their sound is perfect for it; these guys rock hard and always leave me walking away satisfied with my ears ringing and a smile on my face. They are another band that don't really rely on visuals and props to supplement their act, they let their instruments and vocals do all of the work, which is all anyone needs.
When you see Kings of Leon live, they don't sound totally like they do on their albums, they sound even better. Everyone can sing along to "Sex on Fire" and "Mary", but their live versions of the songs can be unpredictable and much better to listen to. They mainly play what the crowd wants to hear, basically most of the favorites from the past three albums, but once in a while they will throw in a tune from earlier in their careers. They are always worth seeing when they come around town!
Overall excellent concert. The opening band, The Sherlocks, put up a good performance that tied in quite well with what was yet to come. The KOL concert started with a not-so-impressive stage, but as part of the act, as we had to wait 40 minutes for the full stage, lights, animations, etc to be unleashed. The sound was excellent for a pavilion gig, we were on the stands facing frontally to the stage and sound was clear and enjoyable. They played all songs quite similarly to the albums without any major modifications with a great array. The only couple of things that weren't that perfect were the fact that they could have played a few more songs from the Mechanical Bull album, in my opinion would have tied quite well within the concert, and the fact that they didn't address the audience nor engaged with "us" for the biggest part of the concert, playing all songs straight without any interruptions, no breaks, no big discourses or presentations, and finishing it in 1:45 hours. Taking into consideration their music and albums, we were expecting the show to reach at least 2 hours, but was still a great experience nonetheless.
They were great live! I saw them at the Xfinity center in Mansfield Massachusetts. The opening band was pretty good (Daniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats). They did about six or seven songs as the opener. Kings of Leon came out to a beating heart intro it was neat. They performed some old "classics" such as "Notion", "Use Somebody", and "Sex on Fire". They sounded just like they do on the radio! The lead singer was very professional when the drummer had a flub and they had to stop the song. He just said "Hey that happens sometimes, live music". I thought that was cool that he was so chill about it. He talked a bit then they restarted the song. I think the lead singer has one of those voices that is made better live. He sounded good. They had really awesome background screens that changed designs and patterns. The lighting was fun a bit flashy at times but not too much. They ended the night with "Sex on Fire" and then did an extra song after that. It was a great night and totally worth the hour and a half drive it took us to get there. :) I would go see them again if given the opportunity.
KOL is one of my favorite bands and this was my first time seeing them. Had pit standing tickets and man the show had good energy. I love that they played a lot of their new album as expected but they continued to play their oldies but goodies as well, ending with like 25 total songs played. The songs sounded even better live than the recordings, and their big sound for 4 people was well alive. Their bass guitarist and drumming is a sight to see instrumentally and Caleb's voice was on point. Loved that they played "immortals" which is one of my favorites but honestly knew every song and couldn't of asked for a better set list! Great band, great show, I will be seeing them again!
Best night of my life!! Was supposed to go see them in 2010/3 but missed them & I was heartbroken!
Last night is a night I'll forever remember, I love Kings Of Leon so much! They put on the best show I've ever seen in my life and Calebs smile melted my heart.
This band is my life and to of finally seen them made me cry like a baby but I didn't care, I'm so grateful to have seen them play and I'm already looking forward to when they come back, maybe another 3/4 year wait but it'll be perfect!

I love you all <3 <3 <3 <3
Kings was amazing!!!! Although my roommate and I purchased cheap GA tickets we were able to sneak closer to the front.
The show was phenomenal. One kol opened with Closer, the spirit of music came through the amphitheater like a tsunami wave. Cried like a little school girl when they played Tonight. "Tonight, I'm gonna lose my body" needless to say the sound of the music reached out and resonated with the underlying ache in my soul. I know the whole crowd was move when they have a shout to Matt followill for his birthday. HANDS DOWN BEST SHOW IVE BEEN TO. I will forever remember Kings of Leon mechanical bull tour 2014!!!
They were great! Definitely not a boring band, the music is fun and upbeat, the band members were nice to their fans and audience, and I give them lots of credit for their lighting and video displays which attracts attention. Everyone really loved the way they played and that they not only played from their new album, but oldies as well so everyone can sing along. Their stage was awesome with the video effects and lighting which kept you going. I so recommend going to see them, I won't hesitate for next time!

Can We Please Have Fun , as its title suggests, is a document of one of this era’s great rock & roll bands cutting loose, trying new things, and, yes, having some fun. Recorded at Dark Horse studio in Nashville and produced with new collaborator Kid Harpoon (Harry Styles, Florence + the Machine) the album sees a new side of Kings of Leon. On the new album, the band harkens back to their gritty origins while simultaneously finding new gears. It’s the sound of a band unified in vision and purpose, freed from any expectations, and the album the band says they’ve always wanted to make.
It was the most enjoyable record I’ve ever been a part of,” Caleb says. “It’s like we allowed ourselves to be musically vulnerable,” Nathan adds. “I love it when a rock band is not embarrassed to admit that every song doesn’t have to be on 11.”
The group is gearing up for a monumental year, and they’re ready to take the world by storm. “When you have a band, there’s a bond like no other, and when you have family, you have a bond like no other,” Caleb says. “We have both of those things. I thought, if we put all our energy toward something, who is gonna stop us? Who can stop us except us?”

Long-running, Grammy-winning rock band Kings of Leon are starting off 2024 with a bang, announcing that they have signed with Capitol Records, which will release their forthcoming ninth full-length studio album, to be followed by a major world tour.
The album, titled “Can We Please Have Fun,” was produced by Harry Styles/ Florence and the Machine collaborator Kid Harpoon (who, with partner Tyler Johnson, was Variety ’s Hitmakers 2022 Producer of the Year ), is due on May 10 and is preceded by the lead single “Mustang,” available now. The song recalls the innovative and idiosyncratic sound of the group’s 2004 breakthrough album, “Aha Shake Heartbreak.”

The new album “was the most enjoyable record I’ve ever been a part of,” says frontman Caleb Followill. His brother, drummer Nathan Followill, adds, “It’s like we allowed ourselves to be musically vulnerable. I love it when a rock band is not embarrassed to admit that every song doesn’t have to be on 11.”
The group continues to be managed by Andy Mendelsohn and Jeffrey Azoff at Full Stop; the announcement follows the recent appointment of Tom March as chairman-CEO of Capitol Music Group. All of the group’s previous releases, dating back to their 2023 debut EP “Holy Roller Novocaine,” were on RCA Records.

Kings of Leon Announce New Album ‘Can We Please Have Fun’, New Song ‘Mustang’ + 2024 Tour Dates
Kings of Leon have returned with a new song called “Mustang,” their first single from the upcoming album Can We Please Have Fun , and will support the record on a 2024 tour.
“I kept telling myself, ‘I really believe we can make something special,’” frontman Caleb Followill explained of the recording process (via press release). “Every day it was positive vibes, like ‘Let’s keep it moving. Instead of getting frustrated, write another one. Keep going.’ It was a very special time for us.”
"Mustang" marks the band’s first new release since their 2021 album, When You See Yourself . Followill new the song was special when he saw the way it resonated with his children.
“Every time I would play it in the house, my four-year-old son would start really getting into it,” the singer epxlained. “Anytime I play something and my kids like it, I’m like, ‘Alright, here we go!’”
“Mustang” is propelled by a driving guitar part and emphatic backbeat, coupled with the band’s familiar southern rock style. The tune also features elements of psychedelic and garage rock within its layers, as Kings of Leon once again display the maturity of their sound. Above it all, frontman Followill’s distinctive vocals soar, such as on the chorus when he declares: “There’s a Mustang in the city, and it’s calling me out / Are you a Mustang or a king, what are you all about?”

Kings of Leon Had Been Teasing New Music
Kings of Leon originally revealed that new material was on the way during their first concert of 2024.
“Let me tell you, we have some new music coming,” Followill declared during the band’s Jan. 25 gig in Mexico. “It’s coming real soon, so get ready for the Mustang. It’s coming for you.”
Earlier this week, the band shared teaser clips on social media, including a career spanning montage in which bassist Jared Followilll asked, “Can we please have fun?”
The subtle hints on social media go back even further than that. On New Years Eve, the band said goodbye to 2023 with a message that read: "We worked really hard this year. Next year, can we please have fun?"
Can We Please Have Fun will be released on May 10. In conjunction with the album' announcement, the band unveiled a sprawling 2024 tour across North America. Tour dates and the album track list can be found below.

About Kings of Leon
Multiple Grammy Award winners, Kings of Leon are a family affair band that formed in Nashville before the turn of the century in 1999. The group quickly adopted a southern rock and blues feel to their music, which morphed into an experimental sound that included folk as well as arena rock. In 2008, they gained international recognition with the release of their album "Only by the Night" breaking into the US charts. Tracks like "Sex On Fire" and "Somebody" was their calling cards as they portrayed a musical sex appeal like no other band before them. They continued on the upward trend with their 2010 "Come Around Sundown" going platinum in over 15 countries. Their music is the perfect soundtrack to a road trip that's filled with emotions and a lot of hope for better and brighter days. For their unprecedented musical effort, Kings of Leon gathered 12 Grammy Award Nominations, and you can easily understand why!

The Oilers’ matchups and tweaks most impacting series vs. Kings
The Edmonton Oilers and Los Angeles Kings are four games deep in their best-of-seven series.
First-blush impressions on deployment and strategy have now given way to a more substantial read on what each coaching staff is trying to accomplish.
What’s working for Edmonton in the heart of the game? Here’s a look.
Special teams
Entering action on Sunday night, Edmonton’s power-play success was a major factor in the team’s 2-1 lead in games.
It was the biggest factor in Game 4, as the only goal in the game came on the man advantage.
The Oilers have scored eight power-play goals, taking fewer than 20 total minutes in the game state to crush the Kings over the first four games of the series.
At the other end of the special teams spectrum, Edmonton’s penalty killers didn’t surrender a goal in just shy of 22 minutes short-handed through four games.
The first and only goal of Game 4 in Los Angeles on Sunday night came on the power play.
So far, special teams has delivered a net plus-8 in favour of Edmonton.
The usual suspects are having success on the power play, led by Connor McDavid (1-7-8), Leon Draisaitl (2-4-6), Evan Bouchard (1-3-4) and Zach Hyman (3-0-3).
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (zero goals against in 10:25) leads the forwards in clean minutes on the penalty kill, while four defenders ( Vincent Desharnais , Mattias Ekholm , Cody Ceci and Darnell Nurse ) have also played significant minutes without surrendering a goal, via Natural Stat Trick .
McDavid vs. Danault and Doughty
Through three games of this year’s series, the McDavid line is hammering the combination of Phillip Danault ’s line and Drew Doughty ’s pairing at a tremendous rate.
One year ago, McDavid played 58 minutes against the Danault line over the entire series, winning both the goal share (1-0) and expected goal share (53 percent).
So far this playoff series, Edmonton’s captain is enjoying a 4-1 goal advantage in 25 minutes with an expected goal percentage of 78 percent.
The numbers versus Doughty are similar.
One of the tweaks made by Kris Knoblauch and his staff is running the Ekholm-Bouchard pairing with the top line. It worked well during the regular season, and so far in this year’s playoffs the totals are outstanding.
In 51 minutes together, McDavid-Bouchard is 4-2 goals and 70 percent expected goals at five-on-five.
That’s a massive advantage; the five-man unit is an innovative wrinkle by Knoblauch and his staff.
Rolling four lines and three pairings
There’s considerable evidence from the regular season showing Knoblauch doesn’t chase specific line or pairings matches unless the Oilers are behind or in a specific (defensive) situation.
During the Kings series in the spring of 2023, coach Jay Woodcroft ran the No. 1 line heavily.
McDavid averaged 19:06 at five-on-five, with Draisaitl at 18:31 per game.
So far this spring, McDavid is averaging 16:11 and Draisaitl 15:04.
Increased playing time and double shifts may come to pass during the rest of this series, but through four games Knoblauch isn’t pushing anyone beyond what could be considered manageable minutes.
Defensive zone faceoffs
During the Oilers-Kings series one year ago, Woodcroft used veteran centre Nick Bjugstad for 48 defensive-zone faceoffs. Draisaitl (30), McDavid (29) and Ryan McLeod (24) followed.
Under Knoblauch during this year’s series versus the Kings, it is Draisaitl (37), McDavid (25), McLeod (14) and Sam Carrick (14) leading the way.
The Oilers are using the top-end players more often for defensive-zone faceoffs.
It’s smart deployment, and also lends itself to using McDavid most effectively.
When the captain starts in his defensive zone, and the faceoff is won, it allows Edmonton to dictate the pace on outlet passing. If Bouchard can hit McDavid on the fly entering the neutral zone, the Kings defence is instantly in trouble.
McDavid works best with more room to wheel, and can lose checkers easier in the neutral zone.
Knoblauch appears to be using Edmonton’s best players, and best offensive players, in what is a traditionally checking (defensive zone faceoffs) situation.
Added to the improved outlet strategy (using the middle of the ice in the high slot more), the result has more clean air for McDavid and instant panic for opposition defencemen.
Attention to detail
Perhaps the most important difference between last year’s Oilers team and this one is coverage and all-out effort to suppress offence and thwart danger in the early stages.
On Sunday night, the Oilers were under attack early and often, but the shots came from the outside and Edmonton goaltender Stuart Skinner was not overwhelmed by a barrage of high-danger chances.
A year ago, fans and media spent the summer discussing man-to-man versus zone, specifically in regard to a Vegas Golden Knights goal scored by Zach Whitecloud .
NHL defencemen can play any style required, but attention to detail and making good decisions is key.
This year’s team, so far, is right on time to impact key moments in a positive way.
Calm defence, calm goalie
Skinner delivered the best playoff performance of his young career on Sunday night in defeating the Kings.
His defencemen kept things calm, with most of the shots coming from the outside and from range.
Skinner is a year older and more mature, and Edmonton is playing a far more structured game in this series (with some wobble in Game 2 ).
The result is an increasingly confident stopper and should pay off as the series with the Kings continues.
There are fewer icings, panic outlets, turnovers and low percentage plays.
The club routinely executes place and chase deep inside the Kings zone, thus delaying entry into the Edmonton end and reducing neutral zone turnovers.
Bottom line
This is a veteran team with a sophomore goaltender, ridiculous skill and a top unit that contains five skaters who work effectively as a tandem.
The attention to detail, the lack of panic, contesting every play, the discipline required to resist retaliating on late hits and high sticks was on display Sunday night. The Oilers delivered a complete game in all areas.
It’s been a long time coming.
It isn’t the most famous 1-0 victory in franchise history, but the Game 4 victory will be remembered by Oilers fans.
That’s the kind of style, effort and execution that wins the Stanley Cup.
