Tour Reviews

This trip will always be on the "top ten" list of favorites from my life's experiences. I learned so much and grew to understand and love the Prophet Joseph Smith and the pioneers more than I did previously. I highly recommend this trip!

Joni Flandro

My three children went on the tour for their senior trips the summer before graduation. They loved the trip and came home with a much strengthened testimony. They felt independent with a group of teenagers and I had the reassurance of great chaperones who kept them safe.

Egbert Amanda

Life changing! Testimony Building! You couldn't ask for better tour guides or experience! Every detail attended too! Everyone feels like they are loved and are known. Some who experience feeling loved for the 1st time! Thanks for the tour!

lds church history tours 2022

We will spend a full day seeing the sites in Palmyra. Our stops will include the Sacred Grove, the Smith Family Farm, the rebuilt log home where the Moroni visits took place, the Hill Cumorah, the Grandin Press (where the Book of Mormon was first published), the Martin Harris Farm, the Palmyra Cemetery, and the exterior of the Palmyra Temple. There will be time to attend the Palmyra Temple this evening for those interested. (Breakfast and Lunch provided)

lds church history tours 2022

Today we travel to Harmony, PA and the Susquehanna River. It was here that the Priesthood was restored and where most of the Book of Mormon was translated. The new Priesthood Restoration Site was dedicated in September 2016. The site now includes the Joseph and Emma Smith Home, the Isaac Hale Home, statues, historical markers, and a new Visitors’ Center. We will keep to our chronological order of Church history by then traveling to Fayette, NY where we will visit the Peter Whitmer Farm. This is where the Church was officially organized. It was also in Fayette that the Three Witnesses saw the angel and the plates. Some of the Book of Mormon was also translated at the Whitmer Farm. (Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner provided)

lds church history tours 2022

We will spend several hours at Niagara Falls today. There are many attractions to participate in, including the Maid of the Mist boat ride which will give us an up-close view of the Falls. Later, we will make our way to Kirtland. (Breakfast, and Dinner provided)

lds church history tours 2022

The day will start with a tour of the interior of the Kirtland Temple. It was here that the Savior appeared to Joseph and Oliver. Moses, Elias, and Elijah also appeared and restored Keys of the Priesthood. We will visit the Visitors’ Center, the Newell K. Whitney home (where Joseph and Emma lived) and the Newell K. Whitney store (which included the School of the Prophets and where many revelations, including the Word of Wisdom, were received). We will also visit the John Johnson Inn (where the Church periodical The Evening and Morning Star was published), the reconstructed Kirtland Schoolhouse, and the Kirtland Ashery along with a reconstructed water-powered sawmill. We will visit the Morley Farm where General Conference was held, the Father and the Son appeared, where missionaries were first sent from, and where the first High Priests of this dispensation were ordained. We will also see the exterior of homes belonging to Joseph Smith, Hyrum Smith, and Sidney Rigdon. We will have a catered lunch at the Chaplin Forest Stone Quarry where much of the stone for the Kirtland Temple was obtained. (Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner provided)

Our day begins in Hiram, Ohio at the John Johnson Farm. It was here that Section 76 was received. Nauvoo - Missouri - Winter Quarters Tour

The Things of God are of Deep Import

Tour Summary

After leaving Ohio, the Mormons were driven in Missouri, until they arrived in Nauvoo. Here they built a beautiful city unto the Lord, with a Temple at its center.

This tour focuses on “Zion” in Jackson County, Nauvoo and Carthage, as well as the beginning of the trek west in Winter Quarters. The restoration was completed here and the Saints prepared to move where they might begin to build the Kingdom of God. This tour begins in Kansas City and ends in Omaha.

The Nauvoo Tour:

Best enjoyed in summer or winter, unique experiences.

The initial call to settle in Zion would serve as one of the greatest motivating factors for thousands of saints across the world.

You will see Zion, the place designated for the Saints to build a temple in preparation for the return of Jesus Christ to the earth. You will experience the great contrast of Liberty Jail, the cornerstones of Far West, and the beautiful valley where Adam rose to bless his posterity. You will see what the saints built out of a swamp in Commerce and where the greatest doctrines of the restoration were restored. The homes and gardens stand as witness to the events of this sacred place.

To stand on the banks of the Mississippi river on February 4 th , the very anniversary of when the saints left Nauvoo is a thrilling experience. You will silently revel in the spirit of Carthage Jail and the sacred homestead of the Smith Family graveyard. You will see what they built, you will see how they showed their faith and how the Kingdom of God was worth more than any other thing. You will  experience Iowa, you will see, first-hand, why it took them months to cross that state.

Historical sites visited:

Names in green indicate sites often missed by other church history tours.

Just 22 miles from Palmyra.  Was a stagecoach stop in Joseph Smith’s time.  Brigham Young , his father, and all ten living brothers and sisters joined the Church here in 1832.  So did their spouses, some of whom were Methodist ministers.  All went through hardships and persecutions as a result.  None ever apostatized. Heber C. Kimball , his wife Vilate and his father joined here too.  Heber C. Kimball, Brigham Young and many others saw a stunning vision in the night sky here the same night Joseph Smith received the plates of the Book of Mormon in Palmyra.  See John Young home , Brigham Young property, Tomlinson Inn (the stagecoach stop), Miriam Works Young’s grave , Solomon Kimball home .

Smith family farm , rebuilt log home where Moroni visits took place, frame home where the plates were hidden under the fireplace hearth.  Enjoy private time to ponder in the Sacred Grove .  Missionary tours tell about the miracles of the  Grandin Press where the Book of Mormon was first printed.  Pay tribute to Martin Harris at his farm .  Visit Joseph’s brother Alvin’s grave in the Palmyra Cemetery .  Pause for a memorable group photo at the Palmyra Temple and enjoy walking the beautiful grounds around the temple.  Feel gratitude for generations past at the Hill Cumorah where a duly prepared Joseph retrieved the plates from the ancient prophet, Moroni.

Peter Whitmer Sr farm where the Church was first organized on April 6, 1830.  Site of the visions to the three witnesses of the Book of Mormon.  The Book of Mormon translation was finished in an upstairs room of the (now re-built) Whitmer family cabin.  Many D&C sections received here.  Headquarters of the Church while Joseph lived here with the Whitmer family.

HARMONY PA & Susquehanna River!

150 miles from Palmyra.  Extremely important site and remarkably beautiful.  Home of Emma Hale Smith’s family .  Josiah Stowell silver mine digging venture.  Much of  The Book of Mormon was translated here.  Martin Harris and Oliver Cowdery lived here for a time with Joseph and Emma while serving as scribes during the translation.  John the Baptist visit to Joseph and Oliver bestowing the Aaronic Priesthood .  Higher priesthood restored near here by Peter, James, and John.  Many additional crucial events.  For some it is worth the price of the tour just to visit this incredible site! NEW since 2015:   RENOVATIONS and NEW CONSTRUCTION are complete – new chapel/visitor’s center along with reconstructions of Joseph & Emma’s home and the Isaac & Elizabeth Hale home along with improved access to the Susquehanna River.

COLESVILLE & SOUTH BAINBRIDGE

Tour the Josiah Stowell home and Joseph Knight Sr home  just north of Harmony – both very good friends to Joseph and Emma.  Joseph Knight home was location of the Colesville Branch of the Church, first led by Hyrum Smith.  These homes have been carefully and beautifully refurbished by private owners who graciously invite our groups to share in these historic homes and the incredible history that was lived here.

KIRTLAND OH

Did you know the Saints lived in Kirtland longer than they lived in Nauvoo?  It’s true!  By far, more heavenly manifestations, visitations, and revelations were received in Kirtland than any other Church history site.  Feel the Spirit in the Newel K. Whitney Store (School of the Prophets; Word of Wisdom received here with several other D&C sections).  A spectacular Kirtland Visitors Center was built in 2005.  See the newly-restored John Johnson Inn, saw mill, ashery, and family history facilities.  Visit the Isaac Morley Farm where the united order was first practiced and where a schoolhouse was the scene of heavenly direction.  Enjoy a private tour of the Kirtland Temple and marvel at this still-dedicated House of the Lord (re-opened in 2022!).

FAIRPORT HARBOR OH

On Lake Erie, just 12 miles from Kirtland.  Here, saints arrived from points east as they answered the call to “gather to the Ohio” and from where many departed on missions eastward including those going to and returning from Europe.

John Johnson Farm , an immense operation for the day.  Joseph Smith lived here for a year while producing the “Inspired Translation” of the Bible.  He and Sidney Rigdon were also tarred and feathered here.  Many sections of the D&C received including the great 76th section three degrees of glory.  Enjoy a delicious lunch at a nearby village before flying home.

NIAGARA FALLS

Most tours start at the awesome Niagara Falls to spend the night including the thrilling Maid of the Mist boat ride up to the falls!  Enjoy free time to explore the falls, the roaring river, and the platform viewpoint high atop the falls!

LDS Church announces locations for new temples in Lehi, West Jordan

S ALT LAKE CITY ( ABC4 ) — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced the site locations for three of its future temples — two of which will be built in Utah, joining more than 30 other temples in Utah in operation, undergoing construction or renovation or announced.

The Lehi Utah and West Jordan Utah Temples were first announced during the church’s annual general conference on April 7.

The Lehi Utah Temple

According to Church Newsroom , the Lehi Utah Temple will be the first temple for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the city of Lehi.

The Lehi Utah Temple will be built on a site measuring 22.48 acres that is northwest of the intersection of 3950 North and Center Street in Lehi. Plans reveal the site will include both a new meetinghouse and a multi-story temple measuring about 85,000 square feet.

The West Jordan Utah Temple

The West Jordan Utah Temple, which was also announced on April 7, will be the first temple in the city of West Jordan.

The plans for this temple also call for an 85,000 square foot multi-story temple and a new meetinghouse. The site for this temple is 16.10 acres, located at approximately 7148 South and west of Highway 111.

The Tampa Florida Temple

The site location for the Tampa Florida Temple has been changed since the first location was announced in October 2022, according to Church Newsroom.

The single-story Tampa Florida Temple is set to be 29,000 square feet, and will be built on a 12-acre site located at 945 Camden Fields Parkway in Riverview, Florida.

This temple was first announced in April 2022, and will join the four other Florida temples that have been announced, are already under construction or are operational.

Here’s where the new LDS temples in West Jordan and Lehi will be built

For the first time since 2021, church president russell m. nelson announced this month that utah would get new temples. now we know exactly where they’ll be located..

(The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) The Taylorsville Utah Temple will be dedicated on June 2. This month, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced two more Utah temples, in West Jordan and Lehi.

A new Latter-day Saint temple will land in the far western reaches of the Salt Lake Valley, just north of one of the world’s largest open pit mines .

The recently announced West Jordan Temple will sit on about 16 acres at approximately 7148 West, off of Highway 111 , The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints revealed in a news release Monday.

The future temple’s nearest neighborhood already hosts Jordan School District’s Sunset Ridge Middle School and Oakcrest Elementary School.

Church President Russell M. Nelson told attendees at this month’s General Conference in Salt Lake City that a new temple is also coming to Lehi.

That temple is slated to be built on a roughly 22.5-acre spread at the intersection of 3950 N. Center St., next to Alpine School District’s Viewpoint Middle School and near a Texas Instruments campus.

Plans for both sites call for a multistory temple of about 85,000 square feet and an accompanying meetinghouse on each property. Both will be their city’s first temples.

West Jordan’s temple will be the fourth on the west side of the Salt Lake Valley, joining two in neighboring South Jordan and a new temple in Taylorsville set to be dedicated June 2. The West Jordan and Lehi temples bring the total number of planned or constructed temples in the faith’s home state to 30.

The announcement of the new temples this month marked the first time since October 2021 that Nelson has revealed plans for new temples in the Beehive State.

After the announcement, public officials in both cities expressed excitement and surprise about their communities being chosen for new temples, saying the edifices will bring better opportunities for their residents to participate in religious life.

Latter-day Saints — although only those who have been deemed worthy — enter temples to participate in the faith’s most sacred rituals, like eternal marriage.

Tours, Attractions and Things To Do in Nizhny Novgorod

Nizhny Novgorod is the fifth largest city in Russia with a population exceeding 1.2 million. The city is located at the confluence of two rivers - the Volga and Oka. It is the center of Nizhny Novgorod region and Volga Federal District, as well as one of the country’s major administrative, economic and cultural centers.

Furthermore, Nizhny Novgorod is the Russia’s largest industrial center with the enterprises of mechanical engineering, metalworking information technology playing a leading role.

Nizhny Novgorod was founded in 1221 by Prince Yuri Vsevolodovich to protect Russian borders. Under Ivan III, Nizhny Novgorod was a sentry city. It had a regular army. This was the place for Moscow to march against Kazan.

Nizhny Novgorod made a great contribution to the construction of the Russian state. In 1612, Kuz’ma Minin and Prince Dmistry Pozharsky’s militia from Nizhny Novgorod played a decisive role in the liberation of Moscow from Polish intervention.

During the Soviet period from 1932 to 1990, the city was named after Maxim Gorky, the Great Russian writer who was born there. From 1959 to 1991 it was a “forbidden” city for foreigners because of defense plants, located there. On October 22, 1990 the city got its former name, and about at the same time, it began developping tourist business.

Today, the city, once playing such a significant role in the history of Russia, is developed into a modern metropolis. So, the urban development plan intends to build a metro bridge, cableway, funicular, and a new branched transport infrastructure there. Furthermore, Nizhny Novgorod is the Russia’s largest center of river cruise tourism and venue of Nizhny Novgorod fair-based major international exhibitions.

Nizhny Novgorod is one of the richest cultural centers of Russia. The most prominent artists have received education in the local theater and art schools. The city has opened a large number of theaters, museums and cinemas.

This city can surprise any traveler by an entwinement of modern and ancient buildings, each time rising before your eyes in a completely unexpected appearance.
