Contiki

  • Excellent - 5,345 reviews for New York tours
Citypass was late coming through until I chased it and hotel had an issue with the single supplement so tried to charge me again for a room trying to make me refund with Contiki. Spoiled the start of my trip so had to chase Contiki when I just had arrived. Think I could've done the entire trip cheaper to be honest. Not sure what value Contiki added.
I loved this tour and our guide Jon was great. However it should be advertised as a 3 day tour as the 4th day is just check out of the hotel, no activities.

New York Tours & Travel Guide

New York Attractions & Landmarks Guide

Vibrant New York is a destination city for dreamers. The city is home to history that goes back to before the American Revolution, and has traditionally been the first step onto US soil for decades of immigrants. It's a place for great art, theater, and entrepreneurship. Many tours that begin here may explore the wider northeastern United States, which shares a reflection of America's earliest history.

Marco Experiences

Marco Experiences

Marco helps companies discover and book high-quality experiences (virtual, in-person, multi-day retreats).  We're also building an all-in-one culture platform that allows companies to proactively create and manage a best-in-class employee experience.   We are building the all-in-one employee connection platform that allows companies to proactively plan, improve, and measure employee connection through experiences. Problem: For decades, company culture has been rooted in the office. Over the past two years, the way we live and work has been completely changed with hybrid work being embraced by a majority of companies. Based on a recent Gallup poll, 77% of employees will either be exclusively remote or hybrid, with only 23% of workers expected to be fully on-site beyond 2022. With increased distribution of workers, new challenges on how to build employee experience have emerged. Solution: Marco is building a solution for investing in the modern employee experience. Marco helps companies bring employees together outside of the office through virtual, in-person experiences, or company retreats. Marco works with companies to help determine the right cadence to bring various groups within a company together that could range from newly onboarded employees, functional teams, geographical hubs, or exec teams. Additionally, Marco provides a suite of employee engagement tools to help measure the ROI of investing in employee experience. Traction: The business has continued to grow substantially over the past couple of years. From 2H 2020 to 2H 2021, the business grew in GMV by over 7x.

International travel agency in New York

Below we have listed and reviewed our top 10 chosen best international travel agencies in New York City. But you might raise the question of how we selected those 10 agencies! Well, we figured you would ask that, and so below, we gave you the list of criteria we considered.

  • CIRE Travel
  • Aspire Down Under
  • Vacation Spirit
  • World Tours And Travel Inc
  • Hellenic Holidays
  • Sunita Travel Agency LLC
  • Black Tomato
  • Travelnista On The Move LLC.

How we selected the agencies:

We’ve compiled this list of carefully considered criteria, so you may choose the ideal one for your next international trip from New York City:

  • Experience: Because we wanted to be sure they knew what they were doing when it came to trip planning, we only evaluated agencies that had been around for a while.
  • Customer Service: The key to a successful travel agency is excellent client service. We researched firms known for their prowess in client communication and willingness to go the extra mile.
  • Flexibility: Because of the unpredictability of travel arrangements, we only included companies who were willing to make adjustments at the last minute.
  • Attention to Detail: The key to a successful vacation is paying close attention to every detail, from reserving lodgings to organizing transportation. We picked agencies recognized for their keen eye for detail.
  • Customization: Every tourist has their own specific requirements and tastes. The greatest travel agencies are the ones that cater to each customer’s special needs.

Now that you know how we selected the agencies, it’s time to move on to the review part. So, let’s begin!

How to Choose The Best Travel Agency in New York

According to travel enthusiasts, choosing the best travel agency is similar to finding the best doctor. Your free time is one of your most prized possessions, so why would you trust just anybody with it? This may seem excessive since they are merely arranging your vacation, but why would you do that?

Here are some recommendations for choosing the best agency:

  • Do Your Homework: Research is necessary to choose the best agent. Start by requesting recommendations from friends and family. According to Mr. Kolner, if people you trust are pleased with their trips, chances are that you will be as well. On Facebook, you can also post suggestion posts.
  • Figuring Out Your Needs: Do you want an agent to organize a specific vacation, such as a Rwanda gorilla trekking expedition, from a location expert? Or are you searching for someone who will become an expert in you and assist you in planning your journey for years to come? These may be the same individual, according to Mr. Kolner, but being clear about your goals upfront may help you choose a different advisor.
  • How Involved Do You Want to Be?: Some travel agents and/or agencies like to handle every detail of a trip, including arranging dinner reservations and airline bookings, while others are content to provide a second opinion on your own research. While some people like talking on the phone, others feel more at ease communicating through email or text. Working with an advisor who complements your vacation planning personality is crucial, according to Mr. Kolner. Asking counsel directly will reveal if they want to hold your hand or leave you alone.
  • Don’t Be Scared off by Fees: Depending on the details of the trip, advisor fees may vary from $50 to several hundred dollars. This is not unusual. According to Mr. Kolner, the practice of collecting fees is expanding since travel advisors spend many hours organizing their customers’ vacations and would struggle to maintain a life without being paid for their work. You pay for an advisor’s expertise and the benefits they may get for you.

How can I choose the best travel agency for my requirements?

It’s crucial to take into account aspects like a travel agency’s reputation, expertise, and history of providing excellent customer service. Additionally, search for a company that specializes in the kind of vacation or location you want.

Does using a travel agency involve any risks?

While using any service provider has some risks, respectable travel companies will usually take precautions to safeguard their customers from fraud or other problems. It is generally advisable to do extensive research on a company before making any reservations.

Can I make my own travel arrangements online without using a travel agency?

Yes, you may book your own travel arrangements online, without an agent’s help, of course. In contrast, dealing with an experienced expert who can walk you through the process and provide individualized advice may save you time and effort.

Conclusion

You’re probably eager to use these services now that we’ve covered everything from luxurious to affordable solutions, except if you want to get lost in the metro system or sleep on park benches lol. We hope this article has helped you to know the best international travel agency New York.

Planning to Combine Business and Leisure Travel? You’re Not Alone.

As employees increasingly add leisure time to their business trips, companies are trying to figure out where their duty of care obligations begin and end.

On a Sunday in late January, Melinda Buchmann, who lives in Florida and supervises client relations for RevShoppe, a 30-person remote company advising organizations on sales techniques and strategies, arrived in Banff, Alberta, to help set up a four-day company meeting.

The last day of the event, her husband, Josh, a director of strategic partnerships for the delivery company DoorDash , who also works remotely, joined her. They spent two leisurely days hiking in Banff National Park and visiting Lake Louise.

“I take advantage, because I don’t know when I’m going to return,” Ms. Buchmann said of the decision to combine downtime with a business trip.

As postpandemic work life has changed, and arrangements now include full-time office attendance as well as hybrid and remote work, so, too, has business travel. The phenomenon known as bleisure, or blended business and leisure travel, was initially embraced largely by digital nomads . But such combined travel is now also popular with people outside that group . Allied Market Research, a subsidiary of Allied Analytics, based in Portland, Ore., estimated that the bleisure travel market was $315.3 billion in 2022 and would reach $731.4 billion by 2032.

As employees increasingly add leisure time to their business trips, companies are struggling to determine where their legal obligation to protect employees from harm — their so-called duty of care — begins and ends. And workers may think that because their trip started with business, they will get all the help they need if something goes wrong on the leisure end. Instead, they should generally consider the leisure part of a trip as a regular vacation where they cover all expenses and contingencies.

Companies are responsible for knowing where their employees are during a business trip, covering expenses if an accident or emergency occurs, securing new lodging if a hotel is damaged, even swapping out a broken down rental car. Still, it’s not entirely clear if that coverage ends completely after the conference or the last client meeting.

Companies recognize that threats are increasing, said Robert Cole, senior research analyst focusing on lodging and leisure travel at Phocuswright, a market research company. They are trying to figure out how to take care of a valuable company resource, the employee, without leaving themselves open to financial risk or potential litigation.

“Crafting a comprehensive policy that balances business objectives, employee well-being and legal considerations can be challenging,” Nikolaos Gkolfinopoulos, head of tourism at ICF, a consulting and technology services company in Reston, Va., wrote in an email.

Employees may be on their own without realizing it and may be surprised by out-of-pocket expenses if they require hospital care abroad or evacuation, said Suzanne Morrow, chief executive of InsureMyTrip , an online insurance travel comparison site in Warwick, R.I.

Ms. Morrow said medical coverage provided by a company “is generally only for the dates of the actual business trip abroad.” If travelers are extending the trip for personal travel, she added, “they would want to secure emergency medical coverage for that additional time abroad.”

Employers and employees are left to figure out when the business portion of the trip ends and the leisure segment begins, a significant detail if an employee has a medical emergency. “Where does the corporation liability end?” said Kathy Bedell, senior vice president at BCD Travel, a travel management company.

Companies have varying policies to deal with the new travel amalgam. The chief executive of RevShoppe, Patricia McLaren, based in Austin, Texas, said the company provided flexible travel options and allowed employees to work anywhere they choose.

Even so, there are constraints. The company requires all employees, including executives, to sign liability and insurance waivers when they are on a voluntary company-sponsored trip, such as an off-site meeting. Such waivers typically place responsibility on employees for their own well-being. And if they bring someone, they are responsible for that person’s expenses.

Employees are responsible for requesting the paid time off and notifying their managers of their whereabouts, although that part is not a requirement. Managers have to ensure adequate staffing, Ms. McLaren said.

Elsewhere, employees may not bother to mention the leisure portion of their trip. Eliot Lees, a vice president and managing director at ICF, said he had been on trips as a child with his parents when they combined business and leisure. His parents were academics, who would piggyback vacations onto conferences.

Now he does the same. “I don’t think I ever asked for approval,” he said. (ICF has no formal business-leisure travel policy. It’s allowed as part of personal time off.) After a conference in the Netherlands last year, he spent four days hiking in the northern part of the country.

“I go anywhere, and take more risks than I should,” he said. He said he didn’t carry personal travel or accident insurance.

Any nonchalance may quickly evaporate if a threat emerges. Security experts say even low-risk locations can become high-risk for a few days or weeks of the year.

“Companies are concerned about losing visibility into a traveler’s whereabouts if they booked flights and hotels outside their corporate travel management company,” Benjamin Thorne, senior intelligence manager in London for Crisis24, a subsidiary of GardaWorld, wrote in an email. “The company may think the traveler is in one city when, in reality, they could have booked a holiday package to another nearby city. This lack of visibility by the company makes it difficult to support travelers when a disaster occurs.”

He also raised the possibility that “a traveler with bleisure travel reservations and expectations may find their work trip canceled due to changes in the risk environment or company policy, disrupting their leisure plans.”

Will a company step in off hours if there’s a problem? “That depends on how you are booked,” Mr. Cole, the senior research analyst at Phocuswright, said. A rule of thumb is the further you get from corporate control, the greater the gray area gets.

Half of GoldSpring Consulting’s clients take the responsibility for the entire trip, said Will Tate, a partner at the consultancy based in Cross Roads, Texas, and a certified public accountant. They don’t want the reputational risk. The other half say: “The business trip ended Friday. That’s when we end our duty of care.”

Some companies are trying to define and narrow the gray area. “If you are clearly on personal time, there is no legal requirement for your employer to provide for you,” said Nicole Page, a lawyer whose practice includes employment law at Reavis Page Jump in New York.

Uber provides employees with advisories before a trip, travel assessments, safety tips while traveling and emergency travel assistance, including medical aid, airport travel support, urgent and emergency assistance, and lost or stolen personal property insurance whether they are on business or pleasure travel or a combination.

And at DoorDash, Chris Cherry, head of global safety and security, wrote in an email that “while personal travel is not something we track, we have received requests to extend our travel support capabilities to personal travel.” Mr. Cherry said in those cases, the company has manually added employee leisure itineraries to its travel risk management system and “provided the same level of overwatch that we do for regular business travel.”

The Buchmanns plan to travel this month to Barcelona, Spain, for the McDonald’s Worldwide Convention. DoorDash will have a booth, and Mr. Buchmann will work on the exhibit floor and also entertain clients.

Ms. Buchmann will accompany him. She plans to go sightseeing in the morning, and work in the afternoons and evenings Barcelona time. She will also take three days of paid time off and has shared her plans with Ms. McLaren, the RevShoppe chief executive.

They will stay a day after the conference and plan to visit the Dalí Theater and Museum in Figueres. “I’m sure there will be no shortage of tapas and window shopping along way,” Mr. Buchmann said. He expects to be back at work the next Monday.

How Bombardier is cashing in on business elite's love affair with private jet travel

By bob woods,cnbc • published april 12, 2024 • updated on april 12, 2024 at 10:42 am.

  • Companies in the S&P 500 spent $65 million for bigwigs to use private jets for personal travel in 2022, up about 50% from pre-pandemic levels, with approximately 45% of the largest corporations CEOs receiving aircraft perks, according to Equilar.
  • Amid rising debt, Bombardier shed much of its wide-ranging transportation portfolio that included everything from snowmobiles and Sea-Doo personal watercraft to aircraft and trains, to focus solely on business jets.
  • While private jet use has come down from the 2022 peak, according to recent data, Bombardier's strategy, implemented in 2020, is popular with analysts who expect continued, if more moderate growth of private air travel.

Planes, trains and snowmobiles comprised the transportation portfolio that Bombardier was riding as the 21st century unfolded.

But the Montreal-based company also was carrying a boatload of debt incurred while building those diverse businesses over several decades, especially the billions it poured into developing the C Series passenger jet, launched in 2008 to compete with Boeing and Airbus for commercial airlines orders.

By 2018, the financial and operational headwinds became too strong, forcing Bombardier's then-CEO Alain Bellemare to begin shedding key assets, most prominently by selling Airbus the C Series program — rebranded as the popular A220 airline. That was followed by divesting the rest of its commercial aircraft businesses, the Learjet brand of private planes and the railway unit. The recreational products entity, featuring Ski-Doo snowmobiles and Sea-Doo personal watercraft, had been offloaded in 2003.

A new management team, headed by CEO Éric Martel and CFO Bart Demosky, took control in 2020. They immediately established an ambitious, five-year strategic plan to reposition Bombardier, with a focus squarely on its sturdiest leg: the high-flying business jet and ancillary services industry. That is proving to be a smart calculation, based not only on Bombardier's almost 40 years of experience in manufacturing and marketing business jets but also the current state of that aviation sector.

Deliveries of business and general aviation aircraft last year topped 4,000 for the first time in more than a decade, the General Aviation Manufacturers Association reported in February. When compared to 2022, all aircraft segments saw increases in shipments, and preliminary aircraft deliveries were valued at $27.8 billion, an increase of 3.6%, according to the trade association, adding that business jet deliveries climbed 2.5%.

Bombardier's pure-play strategy is based on four key pillars, Demosky said. The first two revolve around its highly regarded Challenger and Global business jets, both new and certified-preowned models, sold to well-heeled individuals, companies and fleet operators such as, Flexjet, Wheels Up and NetJets, the fractional-ownership unit of Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway . The third pillar is the worldwide network of aftermarket maintenance and repair centers, and finally the global defense market for retrofitted, special-mission military aircraft.

Ceos spending big on private planes.

No matter who owns the jets, corporate executives have doing plenty of flying in recent years. Companies in the S&P 500 spent $65 million for bigwigs to use private jets for personal travel in 2022, up about 50% from pre-pandemic levels   three years earlier, a Wall Street Journal analysis earlier this year found. CEOs benefited the most, with spending for their aircraft perks reaching a five-year high in 2022, according to executive compensation consultant Equilar . Approximately 45% of Equilar 500 CEOs received aircraft perks in 2022, while only 14.2% of CFOs received the same perk.

Of course, when the entire aviation industry was disrupted — and when commercial airlines started flying again later that year with mandated health restrictions, flight delays and airport chaos — individuals and companies that could afford to buy, lease, rent, or share business jets did, and demand soared. The post-Covid peak numbers are expected to moderate, but the growth continue over the longer-term. Honeywell said in a global aviation outlook issued last October that 2023 growth would still be 10% above the 2019 level, and demand for business jets over the next decade should remain strong.

Historically, the business jet market has been cyclical, said Noah Poponak, an analyst for Goldman Sachs, "but it's been hyper-cyclical in the past 20 years."

He cited the period from 2003 to 2007, when demand was high and OEMs ramped up production, only to be hit by the 2008 financial crisis. Demand collapsed and OEMs significantly cut production, leaving them with a plenty of new and used inventory. Sales of all business jets were healthy leading into 2020 — and then the Covid pandemic hit.

The best barometer for the business jet market, said RBC Capital Markets analyst Walter Spracklin, is the percentage of the total global fleet up for resale on the used market, which generally follows overall economic conditions. "That percentage is typically in the 10% to 12% range," he said. "When it goes into 12% to 15%, that's when we are in recession. Coming out of Covid, it went down to 3%. Everyone wanted a business jet and was willing to buy whatever was out there, new or used."

Today, the percentage is around 6%, so the demand environment is very strong, Spracklin said.

By staying that new course over the past three years, the company has grown revenue and earnings, reduced its massive debt nearly by half and expanded free cash flow. For 2023, Bombardier reported revenues of $8 billion, up 16% year-over-year, driven by higher deliveries and record-setting aftermarket revenues of $1.75 billion, also up 16%.

Adjusted EBITDA rose 32% from 2022 to $1.23 billion, while cash flow generation from continuing operations reached $257 million, beating the company's 2023 guidance. "All of that cash has gone to debt retirement, which went from $10.1 billion in 2020, down to $5.5 billion last year," Demosky said.

Bombardier delivered more aircraft than any of its peers in 2023, Demosky said, referring to OEM competitors such as Gulfstream, Embraer, Dassault and Textron . Poponak concurred, and then some. "Bombardier has been closer to their delivery targets than anybody over the last three years," he said. For 2021, the company estimated that it would deliver between 110 and 120 jets and it hit the 120 mark. For 2022, the target was 120 jets and 124 were delivered, and last year it reached the set goal of 138 deliveries. The estimate for this year is between 150 and 155 deliveries.

How the pandemic changed aviation's course

The pandemic upended a lot of things for Bombardier, Demosky said. Martel had been with the company from 2002 to 2015. He was president of the business jet unit when he left to run Hydro-Québec until 2020. Coincidentally, his first day as CEO was just as the world shut down, halting Bombardier's production facilities in Canada.

"When we came back a few months later, the world had changed," Demosky said, notably severe interruptions throughout supply chains. "Many of our peers reduced their supply chain capabilities, but we made the decision to increase ours," based on anticipating an incremental demand for business jets coming out of the pandemic. "Being proactive allowed us to get ahead of the curve with supply chain challenges and able to meet commitments on deliveries and grow our business more rapidly and effectively than our peers," the CFO said.

Bombardier produces three versions of two classes of business jets, the mid-size Challenger and the large-cabin, long-range Global. The largest and fastest is the 19-passenger Global 7500, capable of speeds up to Mach 0.925. An upgraded 8000 model is scheduled for release later this year. "Order activity remains very strong for both the Challenger and the Global [models]," Demosky said. "We are either number one or two in terms of sales and deliveries of medium and large aircraft in every geographic segment."

A Bombardier Global 7500 business jet is pictured during a presentation of the brand new aircraft from the global business aviation company at Geneva airport on March 3, 2022.

To help keep that growing fleet in the air, the company has expanded its aftermarket service business, now operating 10 centers spread across the U.S., Europe and Asia, and projected to generate $2 billion in revenues this year, Demosky said.

Another growth opportunity is the defense segment, which for close to 30 years has sold jets to air forces around the world. "We made the strategic decision a few years ago to invest in our capability to grow that business, not only in delivery of aircraft, but in providing other value-added services — maintenance, engineering services and modification services," he said.

Bombardier heads into the final stretch of its five-year transformation having achieved demonstrable success as a stand-alone business jet company. Yet feedback from investors "has been very interesting," Spracklin said. "Many, particularly Canadian investors, have had a storied past with this company, so early on, buying back into Bombardier had been met with some skepticism, but they're converting those skeptics. It's a work in progress, but one that is going in the right direction."

Poponak offered a similar assessment. "Overall, the investment community hasn't fully come around," he said. "Any time a company and a stock go through a long period of challenges, having done some things wrong, even after they fix the issues and make it a good business, the market feels like it needs to see a multi-year window of consistently delivering [positive results] before it will divorce the company from its past. Investors are coming around, but it will probably be a few more years before they're fully out of that," he said.

Although Bombardier's stock has fluctuated over the past 52 weeks, from a high of around $54 last March to a low of almost $30 in October, the company can achieve less than their guidance and still have their stock go up this year, he said.

Demosky acknowledges that at the beginning of the repositioning, "there were doubters about whether we could turn the company around and perform as well as we believed we could," he said. "I'm pleased to say that those naysayers are now few and far between. We've met or beat guidance over the past 13 quarters, so I think we have the track record to support the view that we can perform. Our job is just to keep executing."

People from Massachusetts down through New York City, New Jersey, and Connecticut all the way to Philadelphia reported feeling shaking for as long as 30 seconds.

Earthquake specialist Dr. Wendy Bohon talks with AccuWeather about the probability of stronger earthquakes in the Northeast and what to do if they happen.

The U.S. Geological Survey reported a 4.8 earthquake struck near Lebanon, New Jersey. The earthquake struck at 10:23 am EDT. and its epicenter was about 3.1 miles northeast of Lebanon, New Jersey, at a depth of just over half a mile. Lebanon is about 48 miles west of New York City.

Since 2000, there have only been three other earthquakes matching or exceeding today's magnitude of 4.8 in the eastern U.S. (not including earthquakes in Canada and the Atlantic Ocean). The Ramapo Fault runs through Pennsylvania into New Jersey and New York.

People from Massachusetts down through New York City, New Jersey, and Connecticut all the way to Philadelphia reported feeling shaking for as long as 30 seconds, many of them taking to X to share their experience.

An earthquake was felt across multiple states in the Northeast as security cameras and phones recorded first reactions to the event.

Here in #NYC , everyone I’m in touch with in all boroughs, felt #earthquake . Maybe more like 20 seconds of rumbling, shaking — then 10 more of me freaking out wondering if I’m on West Coast. New York City resident and employee Catherine Gulotta said her building was shaking and she immediately ran to her bathroom for safety. Other New Yorkers are reporting on X that their buildings were being evacuated as a safety precaution.

The FDNY posted on X that there are no initial reports of damage or injuries.

There were initial delays at regional airports, including Newark, JFK and LaGuardia, as they initiated a 'ground stop' while they inspected buildings and runways. New Jersey Transit rail services reported delays of at least 20 minutes due to bridge inspections after the quake. Amtrak also inspected tracks and restricted train speeds, saying lines throughout the Northeast may be impacted until all inspections are completed.

How does today's earthquake compare with past earthquakes?

This is the strongest in the East since the 2020 North Carolina earthquake, according to the USGS, and the strongest in the Northeast region since a 5.3 quake in northern New York State in 2002. The largest earthquake in New York City history was a 5.2 magnitude in 1884. In New Jersey, this is the strongest earthquake in nearly 250 years and 3rd strongest on record for the state in 280 years of record-keeping (1737-2017). The only 2 stronger ones: a 5.2 mag in 1737 and 5.3 mag in 1783, according to the governor's office . Northern New Jersey is situated above the Ramapo Fault, the longest fault in the Northeast. According to the New Jersey Monthly , "It begins in Pennsylvania and moves into New Jersey, trending northeast through Hunterdon, Somerset, Morris, Passaic, and Bergen counties before terminating in New York’s Westchester County, not far from the Indian Point Energy Center, a nuclear power plant. And though scientists dispute how active this roughly 200 million-year-old fault really is, many earthquakes in the state’s surprisingly varied seismic history are believed to have occurred on or near it."

This is a developing story and AccuWeather will continue to bring you updates .

What time the 2024 solar eclipse started, reached peak totality and ended

By Sarah Maddox

Updated on: April 9, 2024 / 5:04 AM EDT / CBS News

The 2024 solar eclipse will be visible across North America today. As the moon's position between the Earth and sun casts a shadow on North America, that shadow, or umbra, will travel along the surface from west to east at more than 1,500 miles per hour along the path of totality .

That means the eclipse will start, peak and end at different times — as will the moments of total darkness along the path of totality — and the best time to view the eclipse depends on where you are located. Some places along the path will have more totality time than others.

In Texas, the south-central region had clouds in the forecast , but it was better to the northeast, according to the National Weather Service. The best eclipse viewing weather was expected in New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine, as well as in Canada's New Brunswick and Newfoundland.

What time does the 2024 total solar eclipse start?

Eclipse map of totality

The total solar eclipse will emerge over the South Pacific Ocean before the shadow falls across North America, beginning in parts of Mexico. The path of totality , where onlookers can witness the moon fully blocking the sun (through eclipse viewing glasses for safety ), is expected to first make landfall near the city of Mazatlán around 9:51 a.m. MT.

The total solar eclipse will cross over the U.S.-Mexico border into Texas, where it will emerge over Eagle Pass at 12:10 p.m. CT and then peak at about 1:27 p.m. CT.

In Dallas, NASA data shows the partial eclipse will first become visible at 12:23 p.m. CT and peak at 1:40 p.m. CT. The next states in the path of totality are Oklahoma and Arkansas, where the eclipse begins in Little Rock at 12:33 p.m. CT.

Cleveland will see the beginning of the eclipse at 1:59 p.m. ET. Darkness will start spreading over the sky in Buffalo, New York, at 2:04 p.m. ET. Then, the eclipse will reach northwestern Vermont, including Burlington, at 2:14 p.m. ET. Parts of New Hampshire and Maine will also follow in the path of totality before the eclipse first reaches the Canadian mainland  at 3:13 p.m. ET.

Although the experience won't be exactly the same, viewers in all the contiguous U.S. states outside the path of totality will still be able to see a partial eclipse. Some places will see most of the sun blocked by the moon, including Washington, D.C., where the partial eclipse will start at 2:04 p.m. ET and peak at about 3:20 p.m. ET.

In Chicago, viewers can start viewing the partial eclipse at 12:51 p.m. CT, with the peak arriving at 2:07 p.m. CT.  In Detroit, viewers will be able to enjoy a near-total eclipse beginning at 1:58 p.m. ET and peaking at 3:14 p.m. ET.

New York City will also see a substantial partial eclipse, beginning at 2:10 p.m. ET and peaking around 3:25 p.m. ET.

In Boston it will begin at 2:16 p.m. ET and peak at about 3:29 p.m. ET.

The below table by NASA shows when the eclipse will start, peak and end in 13 cities along the eclipse's path.

What time will the solar eclipse reach peak totality?

Millions more people will have the chance to witness the total solar eclipse this year than during the last total solar eclipse , which was visible from the U.S. in 2017.

The eclipse's peak will mean something different for cities within the path of totality and for those outside. Within the path of totality, darkness will fall for a few minutes. The longest will last more than 4 minutes, but most places will see between 3.5 and 4 minutes of totality. In cities experiencing a partial eclipse, a percentage of the sun will be obscured for more than two hours.

Mazatlán is set to experience totality at 11:07 am PT. Dallas will be able to see the moon fully cover the sun at 1:40 p.m. CT. Little Rock will start to see the full eclipse at 1:51 p.m. CT, Cleveland at 3:13 p.m. ET and Buffalo at 3:18 p.m. ET. Totality will reach Burlington at 3:26 p.m. ET before moving into the remaining states and reaching Canada around 4:25 p.m.

Outside the path of totality, 87.4% of the sun will be eclipsed in Washington, D.C. at 3:20 p.m. ET, and Chicago will have maximum coverage of 93.9% at 2:07 p.m. CT. New York City is much closer to the path of totality this year than it was in 2017; it will see 89.6% coverage at 3:25 p.m. EDT.

Detroit is another city that will encounter a near-total eclipse, with 99.2% maximum coverage at 3:14 p.m. ET. Boston will see 92.4% coverage at 3:29 p.m. ET.

What time will the solar eclipse end?

The eclipse will leave continental North America from Newfoundland, Canada, at 5:16 p.m. NT, according to NASA.

At the beginning of the path of totality in Mazatlán, the eclipse will be over by 12:32 p.m. PT, and it will leave Dallas at 3:02 p.m. CT. The eclipse will end in Little Rock at 3:11 p.m. CT, Cleveland at 4:29 p.m. CDT and Buffalo at 4:32 p.m. ET. Burlington won't be far behind, with the eclipse concluding at 4:37 p.m. ET.

Meanwhile, the viewing will end in Chicago at 3:21 p.m. CT, Washington, D.C. at 4:32 p.m. ET, and New York City at 4:36 p.m. ET.

In Detroit, the partial eclipse will disappear at 4:27 p.m. ET, and in Boston, it will be over at 4:39 p.m. ET.

How long will the eclipse last in total?

The total solar eclipse will begin in Mexico at 11:07 a.m. PT and leave continental North America at 5:16 p.m. NT. From the time the partial eclipse first appears on Earth to its final glimpses before disappearing thousands of miles away, the celestial show will dazzle viewers for about 5 hours, according to timeanddate.com .

The length of the total solar eclipse at points along the path depends on the viewing location. The longest will be 4 minutes and 28 seconds, northwest of Torreón, Mexico. Near the center of the path, totality takes place for the longest periods of time, according to NASA.

Spectators will observe totality for much longer today than during the 2017 eclipse , when the longest stretch of totality was 2 minutes and 32 seconds.

The moon's shadow seen on Earth today, called the umbra, travels at more than 1,500 miles per hour, according to NASA. It would move even more quickly if the Earth rotated in the opposite direction.

What is the longest a solar eclipse has ever lasted?

The longest known totality was 7 minutes and 28 seconds in 743 B.C. However, NASA says this record will be broken in 2186 with a 7 minute, 29 second total solar eclipse. The next total solar eclipse visible from parts of the U.S. won't happen until Aug. 23, 2044.
