Thailand's famous beach resort town of Pattaya has developed a colorful reputation over the years. Located less than 200 kilometers from Thailand's capital city of Bangkok, it's a convenient place to enjoy the sun, sand, and sea.

Pattaya has drawn tourists and expats from all over the world ever since US soldiers "discovered" the once-sleepy getaway destination during the Vietnam War. Since then, Pattaya's profile has steadily increased, and it is now one of the most popular beach destinations in Southeast Asia.

In recent years, the government has made efforts to attract families to Pattaya, and you'll find a host of kid-friendly attractions and things to do, like water parks and an aquarium. Still, it remains more of an adult's destination – especially the area along Walking Street , the main entertainment hub in town.

The sprawling park at Nong Nooch (pronounced "nung nut") Village offers a variety of activities for all the family. Walkways wind among colorful themed gardens, including a topiary garden; 17th-century French garden; European Renaissance garden; and species-specific gardens featuring plants like tropical palms, succulents, and bonsai.

Billed as "the magnificence of heaven recreated on Earth," this massive monument, built entirely of wood, is a study in Thai architectural styles. Every available space is intricately decorated with wooden carvings, and the entire structure was built to pay homage to ancient religions and philosophies.

The cycle of life, Utopia, and humanity's relationship to the universe are some of the themes reflected in the artwork here. While visiting the sanctuary, you can enjoy Thai cultural shows and Thai boxing, go elephant trekking or horseback riding or take a ride on a speedboat.

As with all of Thailand's impressive wats (temples), Wat Yansangwararam (known as Wat Yan) offers insight not only into Thai design and architectural traditions but also into the society's values. Surrounded by sprawling palm-studded gardens, the temple was dedicated to King Bhumibol Adulyadej in 1988 to commemorate the 42nd year of his reign.

Precious Buddhist relics are housed in the main complex, and on the right-hand side of the path leading to the temple is a lake with impressive Chinese pavilions, filled with antiques and artifacts. Wat Yansangwararam's shrine stands on a hill, reached by a flight of 299 steps lined with Naga snakes.

This 18-meter-tall golden statue of the Buddha looks peaceful and relaxed perched atop the wooded Pratamnak Hill south of Pattaya. Climb the steep stairs, adorned on both sides with golden Naga snakes, to see the statue up close and admire the several smaller Buddhas surrounding it.

Many locals come here to pray for good health, happiness, and prosperity. You can also enjoy beautiful views over Pattaya and the bay from the top of the hill. If you're not up for a long walk up the hill, you can catch a taxi up and save your energy to climb the stairs to the statues.

A 30-minute speed boat ride or 45-minute ferry ride from Pattaya, Koh Larn (also called Koh Lan) is a relatively peaceful escape from tourist-packed Pattaya. Several white-sand beaches stretch along the island's shores, with food stalls, restroom facilities, and plenty of water sports. Parasailing, banana boat rides, and underwater Sea Walking are some of the most popular.

Tien is one of the prettiest beaches, and monkeys frolic on Nual Beach . Billed as "the biggest and best water park in Thailand," Ramayana Water Park offers an exhilarating day out for travelers of all ages, with 21 different water-themed rides. A riot of colorful, serpentine slides spiral around the park, including a heart-stopping freefall and more gentle slides for the little ones.

Other things to do here include the double wave pool, a kids' Aquasplash park with fountains, and even a green maze. The lazy river ride snakes through mysterious caves and bubbling geysers. Daily activities add to all the fun and include water polo, fish feeding, Zumba, and volleyball.

The first and only floating market in Pattaya, this bustling hive of commerce is divided into different sections selling merchandise from the four major areas of Thailand. Souvenirs, arts and crafts, and clothing are among the many items sold here, and it's also a great place to indulge in some exotic cuisine; you can try everything from scorpions to crickets and crocodile meat.

A great way to explore the markets is to rent a boat. Unlike more authentic floating markets, you have to pay for admission here. Your ticket gets you more than just a boat ride, however. There are shows and activities to be enjoyed here, including sea boxing, traditional Thai dances, and even a zipline over the water.

For a slice of local life and succulent fresh seafood, head to the fish market in the small town of Naklua, about a ten-minute taxi ride north of Pattaya. Vendors sell fresh-caught seafood at bargain prices and barbecue it for you on-site.

You can also buy fresh fruit and other locally sourced foods, and several good restaurants are also in the area. A group taxi is the most cost-effective mode of transport, so make some new friends while lounging at the beach and make an outing of it together.

A fun way to see the wonders of Thailand and the world, Mini Siam displays models of some of the most famous international sites. Among those on display are Bangkok's Victory Monument and Wat Arun (also known as the Temple of the Dawn), New York's Statue of Liberty, London's Tower Bridge, the Sydney Opera House , and the L'Arc de Triomphe in Paris.

Underwater World might not be as big as other aquariums, but it's home to an impressive array of sea creatures from different underwater environments. Here, at Thailand's first modern aquarium, you can feed koi fish from bottles, get up close to sharks and rays, feel the texture of sea creatures in the touch pool, and see Thailand's largest collection of jellyfish.

Special events for children include the Sleepover with Sharks & Rays Camp, where kids can spend a night in the underwater glass tunnel learning about marine animals.

This bustling Friday to Sunday market runs between 5 and 11pm and attracts both locals and tourists. While there are other markets in Pattaya, the ones in the city center tend to charge more, so it's worth hopping on a tuk-tuk to get to Thepprasit. There are both indoor and outdoor stalls here, but the indoor part of the market is by far the largest and most impressive.

As with most Thai markets, there's not a lot of rhyme or reason to the way the stalls are set up, with sellers offering hot food standing next to those selling electronics or T-shirts. To get the best deals, you'll have to walk the entire length and width of the market and practice your haggling skills.

Be on the lookout for copied designer items and dodgy products, and instead focus on paper lamps, authentic souvenirs, and surprisingly cheap silk clothing.

Known as Buddha Mountain, Khao Chi Chan is a limestone hill with the world's largest Buddha image carved right on it. The golden carving of a sitting Buddha measures 109 meters tall and 70 meters wide, and takes over most of the side of the towering rock.

Created in 1996 as both an homage to the king and as a place for local Buddhists to visit, the image was cut into the stone using guided laser technology, then inlaid with gold leaf.

A tranquil garden with a small lake, paved paths, and a number of water pools filled with lotus flowers add to the beauty of the place. You'll find a few vendors and a small visitors center here, but in general, it's a place for worship and to relax surrounded by beautiful scenery.

The mountain is located just 15 kilometers outside Pattaya and not far from Jom Tien beach. While in the area, you can visit the Viharn Sien temple and museum, which houses a beautiful collection of bronze statues, cultural and religious artifacts, and a number of archeological finds.

Most travelers visit Pattaya for the lively entertainment venues on Walking Street and the sun-soaked beaches. #17 – Jomtien Beach – A nice non-touristy place to visit in Pattaya

25 Best Things to Do in Pattaya (Thailand)

Whenever people think of Pattaya they immediately think of ladyboys, risqué shows and drunk tourists. This does not even begin to touch upon the many things that this city in Thailand has to offer. Pattaya is a place that has beautiful temples and beaches but it also has so many activities to get involved in that it is impossible to get bored.

There are a large number of expats living in Pattaya which has led to the city changing over the years, but this has only led to an increase in wealth being brought into the city, with the increased wealth business men have seen an opportunity to create attractions that appeal to holiday makers which is why Pattaya is one of the enjoyable places to stop at for a few days.

With so much to do let’s get started to the top things to do in Pattaya :

1. Party The Night Away In Walking Street

When it comes to the sights and the sounds that you experience in Walking Street you will be amazed, no other street in Thailand even comes close (despite what the tourist guides may tell you.) Walking Street is 500m long and as the name suggests there are no vehicles allowed in the street after 6pm. The street as well as many side streets are full of bars, nightclubs, go-go bars, restaurants and beer bars. During the day the road is almost deserted but when darkness falls the neon lights, loud music and an army of girls hit the streets.

2. Relax Yourself At Nong Nooch Tropical Botanical Garden

If you are interested in flowers, trees and landscaped gardens this is a great place to spend a peaceful afternoon. The garden covers a space of 2.4 Square kilometers and have some of the most beautiful flowers in the world. The gardens have won many awards for their designs and will continue to do so because of the excellent condition the garden is kept in. It is not just flowers and trees though, there are also over 670 species of orchid and even an elephant talent show.

3. Experience The Pattaya Floating Market

There are various floating markets In Thailand but this one in Pattaya has something different about it. The actual name of the market is the ‘Four Regions Floating Market’ the reason for this is that the market is split into the four regions of Thailand, The north, northeast, south and central. Each section of the market sells products that represent that part of the country. Not all of the stalls are floating, some are in boats which move around the canals and some are stilted properties that stand at the sides on the banks. To experience the best of the market you should hire a small boat and discover all that is on offer.

4. Become Part Of The Art At Art In Paradise

This is no ordinary art gallery, instead this gallery takes the normal art gallery concept and turns it on its head. At Art in Paradise you become part of the artwork by a series of optical illusions and other clever tricks. The gallery is set up perfectly so you can take pictures in such a way that it looks like you are crossing an old bridge or flying over the dessert on a magic carpet. The building is split into ten sections and houses over one hundred pieces of art. It is great fun for children as well as adults and should be on any to-do list.

5. Amaze Yourself At Ripley’s Believe It Or Not!

For those not in the know Ripley’s Believe It or Not is a chain of museums that show the visitor strange facts about the world we live In, most of these facts you would have no idea existed. This museum in Pattaya is home to over 300 items split over ten different subject areas. You will find a 1937 Jaguar that doubles as a motorboat as well as a replica of the Titanic made from a million matches. There is so much to do that it will take you an entire day, especially if you get lost for hours in the infinity maze. When you are finished with the museum and maze you still have the Tussauds Wax Works and the 4D Moving Theater to explore.

6. Climb The Hill At Wat Phra Khao Yai

Wat Phra Khao Yai is also known as Big Buddha Hill, it is referred to as this because it is the biggest Buddha in the region, it stands at 18 meters tall and sits about 100 meters above sea level. When you get to the top of the hill and stand next to the Buddha you can see Pattaya beneath you and Jomtien Beach if you look outwards. As well as the Buddha there is a temple complex as well which has incense burning all day long as well many bells. The temple is still used to this day so expect to see monks and praying locals.

7. Go Ziplining At Flight Of The Gibbon

Not strictly in Pattaya but half way between there and Bangkok sits Flight of the Gibbon, a complete adventure for the whole family. An excellent opportunity to have a lot of fun whilst taking in some beautiful views of the jungle. The course is three kilometers long and consists of twenty two zip-lines as well as two abseiling stations. With an impeccable safety record this is the one place in Thailand where you should feel completely safe whilst doing something you would not do back at home.

8. See The Buddha Engraving At Khao Chi Chan

Khao Chi Chan or Buddha Mountain as English speakers refer to it is the biggest engraving of Buddha in the world. The Limestone hill that has the Buddha engraved on it used to be an active site for the construction industry before it was closed down. In 1996 a laser was used to etch the carving into the rock as part of a celebration for His Majesty the King of Thailand’s 50th year on the throne.

9. Go Back In Time At Anek Kusala Sala

Originally built to build friendships between the Chinese and the Thai’s Khao Chi Chan is a museum showing over 300 pieces of Chinese artwork, most of the pieces are brass and bronze statues of historical figures from various deities including Buddhist and Taoist. Split over the two floors the second floor has some much larger statues, the most noticeable being the Shaolin monks that have been created to depict various martial art poses. You can see statues of dress makers, fortune tellers and liquor sellers which tourists often place one baht coins on.

10. Have some lunch at Mum Aroi

In the fishing village of Naklua sits a rather delightful restaurant called Mum Aroi, the restaurant itself sits right beside the sea and serves up a fantastic variety of seafood. As you eat your dinner in this busy restaurant you can gaze out over the water and watch the old fishing boats bob up and down on the waves. Popular with expats and locals the restaurant is quite large and normally very full in the evenings. For a relaxing evening with a glass of wine and a gentle sea breeze few places can live up to Mum Aroi.

11. Take A Trip To Khao Phra Tamnak

Sitting at the top of a forested hill between South Pattaya and Jomtien is a giant Buddha statue known as Wat Phra Yai, The statue has its origins at a time when Pattaya was just a small fishing village, and a long way away from the world Pattaya finds itself in now. From the top of the hill you have panoramic views over Pattaya City and Bay.

12. Volunteer At Pattaya Orphanage

Founded nearly fifty years ago Pattaya Orphanage has continued to do good works for the less fortunate. The orphanage was founded by a priest called Father Ray in the 1970’s when a local gave their child to Father Ray as they were unable to look after the child themselves. Word soon spread among the people and so the orphanage had its beginnings. Originally the children were ones born as a result of the US military being in the area during the Vietnam War, now the children are from misfortunate mothers who suffer from drug abuse, poverty or HIV/Aids. You can either sponsor meals at the orphanage or completely give up your time and volunteer for extended time periods.

13. Spend A Day At Koh Larn

Sitting seven kilometers away from Pattaya is the island of Ko Larn, boats leave Pattaya several times a day for the island and are always full of tourists eager to explore somewhere new. The island is only small (4km long and 2km wide) but there are six different beaches to see, each beach having its own unique personality. If you wish to stay a few nights there are various resorts and hotels on the island but due to the islands size they fill up quickly.

14. Be Amazed At Tiffany’s Cabaret

Taking place each evening, Tiffany’s Cabaret entertains over two thousand people and has been doing so for over thirty years. The performance usually lasts for an hour and the show is non-stop excitement from start to finish, the entertainers perform scenes that represent every part of the world, including Indian, Korean Thai and many more. The ladyboys are all dressed in exquisite costumers and perform with such finesse that it is hard to spot that they are not real ladies. The raunchiness of the show has been toned down for what you might expect to get in Pattaya ensuring that the show is also suitable for children.

15. Pattaya Elephant Jungle Sanctuary

16. Feast at Leng Kee

Leng Kee is a Chinese restaurant in Pattaya, it opens twenty four hours a day and is the only restaurant that serves Seafood and Chinese, Established for many years it is a favorite among the expats and Chinese locals. The restaurant sits in the thriving Chinatown part of the city and all year long it serves its main menu, the exception being Chinese New Year when it turns vegetarian and serves up a speciality known as ‘Golden Good Luck Noodles’.

You can get mango sticky rice all over Thailand and it is hugely popular with tourists and locals, not many places selling just that one item make it onto Lonely Planet though. Mai Sai Thong is the exception to this and is said to be the best place in Pattaya to eat mango sticky rice. Mango’s ripen in the hot-dry season but this little food stand next to the day market has managed to find suppliers of ripe mango all year round ensuring a steady to supply to their many happy customers.

Rising 105 meters into the sky and made from teak wood which has been carved in the most intricate wat The Sanctuary of Truth is a beautiful sight to behold. This is not a Buddhist temple as you may expect, it was designed by a business owner as a place to go and reflect on oneself. Every part of the building both inside and out has incredibly detailed carvings that need to be seen to be believed, the building itself is still a work in progress which some say will never be finished. There are so many beautiful buildings across Thailand but this one has to come near the very top of the list.

21. Chill Out For A Weekend At The International Music Festival

Each year in March Pattaya holds an annual music festival, musicians from all over Asia fly in for the event which lasts three days and is set over several different stages. The festival is set up along the Pattaya Beach Road which is closed off to cars during the event. You will get a chance to witness a very wide range of music from hip-hop to rock, with both local and international artists getting involved. Part temple, part museum, part workshop, part art gallery, The Sanctuary of Truth is a truly amazing work of art. This awe-inspiring 105-meter-tall temple is built entirely of wood. Not a single nail has been used in its construction, making it a remarkable one-of-a-kind building.

The Sanctuary is about love, peace, acceptance, and harmony. Inside the temple, beautiful artwork and Buddhist chants create a sense of calmness and contentment.

Apart from admiring the building, you can also see skilled craftsmen at work in the workshop, go for a boat ride, explore The Sanctuary’s scenic gardens, and ride an elephant or horse. Also included in the cost of the ticket is a cultural show, Thai dances, and martial art performances.

2 – Alcazar Cabaret Show

Pattaya’s globally famous Alcazar Show is considered the best in Thailand. The dazzling cabaret is in a class of its own. Exceptionally beautiful ladyboys, dressed in extravagant costumes, perform elaborate dances. The colourful sets are incredibly detailed and well planned.

17 dances are performed during the 70-minute show. Our favourite was the dance from the theme song of ‘The World is Not Enough’. Most dances are country specific, which makes them even more fun to watch.

Tiffany Cabaret show (also in Pattaya) is its only competitor. Alcazar Show, however, has better reviews and is cheaper.

Attending the Alcazar Cabaret Show is a great way to spend an evening in Pattaya. The show is pure entertainment.

3 – Pattaya Floating Market

Spread out over 100,000 square meters, the Pattaya Floating Market is one of the largest floating markets in the world – and possibly the best in Thailand. The market is split into four parts, each representing a region of Thailand (this is why it’s also called ‘Four Regions Floating Market’).

You’ll feel as though you have been transported in the past as soon as you enter the market. We visited with Thai friends who explained that the market hasn’t changed at all over the years. 

There is plenty to do at the Pattaya Floating Market. You can go for a boat ride, enjoy freshly prepared Thai food, shop for souvenirs, view cultural shows, and more.

If you haven’t been to a floating market in Thailand so far, visiting Pattaya Floating Market should be number one on your list of things to do in Pattaya.

4 – Pattaya Walking Street

A trip to Pattaya would be incomplete without visiting Walking Street Pattaya. The kilometre long street has one of the largest collections of bars, nightclubs and shows in Thailand.

This colourful street can be a complete onslaught on the senses. But you must visit. Spending an evening in the Walking Street is an important part of the ‘Pattaya Experience’.

Consider getting a drink in one of the bars that have live music playing. This way you can observe the street while listening to great music. This famous Walking Street also has an interesting selection of eating options and activities to do.

If Pattaya Walking Street gets too busy for you, you can walk to Pattaya Pier and enjoy some quiet time before heading back.

5 – Coral Island (Koh Larn)

If you are looking for spectacular white sand and azure water beaches, Coral Island is the place to visit. The beaches of Coral Island or Koh Larn are counted in Thailand’s prettiest beaches. While some of the 6 major beaches on the island can get crowded in the holiday season, secluded beaches can also be found here.

Besides swimming, coral spotting in glass boats, snorkelling, and surfing are popular activities here. Water sports including jet skiing, parasailing, and wind surfing can also be done in most beaches. The seafood served on the island is absolutely amazing as well.

Koh Larn is about 4 miles from Pattaya Pier. The island can easily be reached by ferry or speedboat. (Ferry costs 30 Baht ($1), Speedboat 300 Baht ($9)) . In case you choose to spend a few nights on the island, there are plenty of accommodation options.

6 – Nong Nooch Tropical Garden

Pattaya’s award winning Nong Nooch Garden is considered the world’s best tropical garden. The beautifully landscaped 500-acre park is best explored on bicycle. The area is like a theme park, with many activities including cultural shows, Muay Thai matches, elephant shows, a dinosaur valley, village life theme parks, a centre for the best fruit exploration, resorts and more.

The highlight of our visit was the individually themed botanical gardens. These gardens give the impression of taking a journey around the world. The 17 th  century French garden, Stonehenge, and the European Renaissance gardens are favourites.

Equally fascinating are the gardens specific to certain plant species. These include tropical palm gardens, bonsai and topiary gardens, and a section on cacti and succulent plants. The orchid nurseries, which house over 670 species of orchids are a must see.

7 – Buddha Mountain Pattaya

On the Northern face of Buddha Mountain is engraved one of the largest Buddha images in the world. The striking 130-meter-tall by 70-meter-wide image can be seen from miles away.

The image was carved to commemorate His Majesty The King of Thailand’s Golden Jubilee in 1996. Computer software was used to create the image, which was engraved into the mountain using lasers. The carvings were filled with gold.

8 – Big Buddha & Wat Phra Yai Pattaya

The Big Buddha statue in Wat Phra Yai Temple is another iconic landmark in Pattaya. The 18-meter-tall gold painted Buddha image is popular with Thai people and visitors alike. 

At the entrance to the temple is a large staircase, flanked by golden nags (snakes). The walk up the staircase will lead you to a number of golden Buddha images that surround the Big Buddha statue. You can also enjoy beautiful views of Jomtien and the ocean from the temple.

On the way up the hill, you’ll pass a Chinese shrine dedicated to Confucius and Guan Yin. Inside is a garden, a pond and interesting statues. The shrine is worth a visit, especially if you are walking up and need a break.

9 – Pattaya View Point

About 800 meters from Big Buddha Hill is Pattaya View Point (also called Khao Pattaya View Point). You can see stunning panoramic views of Pattaya and Jomtien from here. Consider visiting late afternoon, when the changing lights enhance the already amazing view.

This is also the location of the broadcasting station of the Royal Thai Navy. A monument dedicated to Admiral HRH Prince of Chumpon can also be found here. The Admiral is known as the ‘Father of the Royal Thai Navy’. You’ll see a number of Thai people paying their respects to the Admiral here.

The beaches of Pattaya are one of the main reasons for the city’s popularity. Cool ocean breeze helps reduce Pattaya’s temperature and gives it a refreshing feel. While Pattaya Beach is the place to go to for water sports, Jomtien Beach is for those looking for quiet beach time.

The waters of both beaches are calm and warm, and both have some good spots to swim in. Sitting on the sand while watching waves and listening to the sound of the ocean is, in our opinion, one of the simplest joys of life.

If you like to watch artists at work, Art Street Pattaya is the place to visit. This colourful and quiet street is a welcome contrast to hustle and bustle of the surrounding area.

You’ll see talented artists painting portraits and working on landscapes. Even if you are not looking to purchase a painting, watching them paint is a delight. Art Street is also the place to go to get a tattoo. The tattoo artists here come highly recommended.

Pattaya is a shopping heaven. From the poshest brands to locally made items, almost everything you can think of – including counterfeit goods – is sold in Pattaya.

The newly opened Terminal 21 Pattaya is Pattaya’s fanciest mall for high end shopping. Even if you are not planning to shop, you could step into a mall to cool down and grab a bite before heading back.

Since Upside Down Pattaya is about 15 miles from Central Pattaya, it makes sense to visit another Pattaya attraction along with this theme park. Upside Down Pattaya is about 1 mile from Kho Chi Chan (Buddha Mountain), so you can cover both in a trip. (You also get a nice view of Buddha Mountain from the top story of the house).

Airasia flies to Bangkok twice weekly (Wednesday and Sunday) between the Ninoy Aquino International Airport and Don Mueang International Airport.

Pattaya is a resort city located on the east coast of the Gulf of Thailand, about 165 km southeast of Bangkok. It is known for its beaches, nightlife, and shopping opportunities. Famous tourist attractions in Pattaya include the Sanctuary of Truth, Walking Street, and the Pattaya Floating Market. Visitors can also participate in water activities such as snorkeling, scuba diving, and jet skiing. Many hotels and resorts in Pattaya cater to different budgets and preferences.

Giant Buddha Engraving at Khao Chi Chan

The Giant Buddha Engraving at Khao Chi Chan is a large image of Buddha carved into the side of a cliff in Chonburi, Thailand. It is one of the largest Buddhist images in the world and was created by using laser technology to carve the image into the cliff face. The image is 130 meters wide and 70 meters tall and depicts the Buddha seated. Additionally, other family activities are inside the park, such as traditional performances at the Thai Cultural situated inside Nong Nooch. These traditional performances include dances, sword-fighting, kickboxing, and even performances with animals like elephants! This is particularly enjoyable if you have kids, which is why it is perfect for families. If you tire of walking around, you rent bicycles or use the local transport available inside the park!

Jomtien Beach

The Jomtien Beach is spread over 6 km and serves as a way to relax from the chaotic central area of the city! You can cool down at the beach and enjoy the soothing sounds of the waves crashing. Or if you want to get involved in activities, many options are available. These include parasailing, surfing, jet-skiing, and so much more! Once you are done with all the fun stuff, you might feel tired.

There are cafes and restaurants available all along the beach where you can snack up and enjoy the rest of the night.

Walking Street

The third place we have on our list is the walking street! This might seem like an ordinary street, but you won’t find anything like this in Thailand! Basically, after 6 pm, all vehicles, including cars and bikes, are not allowed here. It becomes strictly for pedestrians only! Many bars and nightclubs are located, which are perfect if you want to party all night.

Additionally, there are restaurants and some shops as well for shopping around. Just remember that there is no use in going here during the day since it serves like a typical street. However, all the neon signs get turned on at night, and music is in the background. If you travel with friends, you will enjoy this street a lot!

Floating Market

Next up on our list, we have the Pattaya Floating Market. You might be confused by the word floating market. Well, to put it simply, you can look at different buildings and stalls while traveling on a boat! How cool is that? Thailand has a few floating markets, but the one in Pattaya stands out because of the gorgeous buildings inspired by Thai heritages! You will get dropped off at the entrance, and you will get on the boat.

Along the ride, locals will sell tourist souvenirs and merchandise. There are even dancing performances and boxing demonstrations along with the stalls. It will be a memorable experience that you will never forget! After all, there aren’t many places that offer floating markets! Additionally, at the end of your boating ride, you can go to the spas there and get massages.

The fifth place on our list is the Big Buddha statue, also known as Wat Phra Yai. It is situated south of Puttaya, at Pratamnak Hill. This is the biggest Buddha statue in the world as it is 18 meters tall and 100 meters above the sea. It rests on top of the Hill and is entirely gold in color. It looks unreal! You can climb the stairs to the top and see the statue up close.

There are a few smaller statues around it as well. This golden statue is famous amongst locals visiting it to pray for hope and well-being. You can also visit it and see the locals there as a tourist. Not only will you see the statues, but you can also stand on top of the hill and observe the scenery around you! In case you are too tired to walk up the steep stairs, you can take a taxi which will take you to the top directly.

Another very famous tourist attraction is the coral island named Koh Larn. It is approximately 30 minutes away from Pattaya. You can either take a ferry ride or use the boating services there. Pattaya is filled with tourists, so this can serve as a small getaway from all the rush! There are several beaches on this island with all sorts of facilities available.

Each beach is unique, as there are different restaurants and stalls for the public to enjoy. Boat rides are going back, too, after a few hours. But if you wish to stay overnight, you can book a resort or a hotel room at Samae or Tawaen! There is also an option for underwater sea walking, where you can see colorful marine life. Moreover, you can take bikes for rent and go around the islands.

Art in Paradise

Art in Paradise is an art museum, but not a regular one! It has illusion art where you can blend into or pose with the artwork. It’s the perfect place to take Instagram photos and share them with friends and family!

There are things like rhinos, eagles, and whales. Due to the 3d nature of the art, it looks very realistic. The museum has different themes, including Egyptian art, dinosaurs, fantasy, marine life, and o much more. You won’t find fun places like these every day, so visit here on your trip!

Ramayana Water Park

Next up, we have the Ramayana Water Park on our list. This is the biggest water park in Thailand, and luckily it is located in Pattaya! This has over 20 water rides for all ages! Families don’t need to worry about kids as there are suitable rides for them too. The park is colorful and lively and will surely light up your mood. Many people prefer going to the beach and the waterpark on the same day, so you can also try that!

Underwater World

The second last place on our list is the underwater world, an aquarium in Pattaya! There are so many different types of marine life found here. It’s not only an educational place but also effortless and cheap. The underwater world is Thailand’s first grand aquarium, where you can find sharks and stingrays!

You will be able to see the fish and touch them by going to the touch area. As many families visit here, there are special activities for kids, such as overnighting in an underwater tunnel and observing sharks and fish.

Thepprasit Night Market

The last place on our list is the Thepprasit Night Market. As you can tell by the name, the market opens from 5 to 11pm, and it’s only set up on the weekends. The souvenirs here are very affordable as there are local sellers. You can find unique local creations and also local food!

The place is a little out of the way, but it’s worth going there. If you are taking a taxi, make sure to tell the driver to take you to “Art in Paradise” and not just “Paradise Park”. It is located on the second floor of a shopping complex called Royal Garden Plaza.

There are many things to do at Art in Paradise. You can take pictures with the paintings, but there is also a mini-golf course, a 4D theatre, and an aquarium. The best route is to start with the ground floor and work your way up. This will keep you from getting lost.

Admission to Art in Paradis e is only 400 baht for adults and 200 baht for children (ages 4-12) . For your budget, I would also recommend eating at the food court in Royal Garden Plaza.  

7. Underwater World – Indoor aquarium showcasing Thailand’s marine life.

Thailand is home to some of the most diverse and beautiful marine life in the world. Located just off the coast of Pattaya, Underwater World is an indoor aquarium that showcases this incredible biodiversity. As you explore the different sections of the aquarium, you’ll see everything from brightly-colored reef fish to giant sea turtles. There are also interactive exhibits where you can touch stingrays and learn about the importance of coral reefs.

If you’re interested in flowers, trees, and gardens, this is undoubtedly one of Pattaya’s tourist places that you can’t miss. It’s a great spot to spend a pleasant afternoon away from the crowds.

Nong Nooch Botanical Garden is a theme park with various highlights. The Stonehenge Garden and the 17th-century French Garden host some of the most beautiful flowers not only in Thailand but the world. 

Be sure to rent a bicycle at the entrance. Why? Because it’s the best way to tour the garden, and you’ll see more of everything that way! If you are looking for things to do in Pattaya with kids, go to the Botanical Garden, the Dinnousour Valley will keep them entertained for hours.

2. Visit the vibrant Pattaya Floating Market

There are numerous floating markets in Thailand, but none like the one in Pattaya. The market is called the “Four Regions Floating Market” because it’s divided into four regions of Thailand: North, Northeast, South, and Central.

Traders, farmers, and fishermen float along the water, selling fresh produce from each region of the country. Note that not all of the stalls are floating. Some are stilted shops that stand at the sides of the banks, giving you a privileged view of all the activity.

You can travel from Pattaya to Koh Larn by ferry, which leaves every 30 minutes from Bali Hai Pier. With countless breathtaking sceneries, Coral Island has some of the best beaches in Pattaya. It’s a true tropical paradise with great options for Thai seafood. 

Koh Larn has 6 different beaches; each one has its own unique vibe. One of the best things to do in Koh Larn is to go beach-hopping by renting a local motorbike and driving around the island, drive carefully ok?!. This is one of the best ways to discover the hidden beaches on Koh Larn, and it’s also one of the top things to do in Pattaya with family or friends.

With a striking appearance seen from miles away, the 130-meter-high Buddha Mountain is one of the most interesting places to visit in Pattaya.

How to get to Pattaya and around

Pattaya is situated southeast of Bangkok, and from there, it is quite easy to reach, yay! The trip from Bangkok to Pattaya takes about 2 hours, depending on the traffic.

Our destination is connected to Thailand’s capital through Highway 3 and Highway 7.

If you don’t feel like  renting a car (check the prices here) , you can go from Bangkok to Pattaya by bus (check the air-conditioned ones for some comfort). Buses depart every half hour from early in the morning until almost midnight. They leave from the Eastern (Ekkamai), Northern (Mo Chit), and Southern (Sai Tai Mai) bus terminals.

Hotels (especially in the Khao San area) and travel agencies offer transport by minivan, which is more expensive but has the advantage of picking you up at your hotel door.

There are also taxis and private cars doing the route, but the prices can go as high as 1500 baht per person. The cheapest option is to get the train that departs from Bangkok on weekdays between 6h45 and 6h50 and enjoy 3 hour’s trip.
