Hidden Gems of Madrid: Secret Spots Off the Beaten Path

36 Hours in Madrid

A bird's-eye view of Madrid's rooftops. One of the façades, in the foreground, is topped with a bronze sculptures of horse-drawn chariot with a human figure standing atop. The setting sun has set the rooftops ablaze in warm orange light.

Madrid has little to prove as a premier art destination. Its central “golden triangle of art”(anchored by the Prado, the Reina Sofía and the Thyssen-Bornemisza museums) makes for a dazzling art lovers’ pilgrimage, and the city is bolstered by cutting-edge cultural foundations like Espacio Solo and Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary . In 2023, Madrid is commemorating the 50th anniversary of Pablo Picasso’s death and the 100th anniversary of Joaquín Sorolla’s with a series of exhibitions dedicated to each artist. Also, few cities have seen such a flurry of hotel openings since the pandemic’s onset — including the Edition, the Four Seasons, the Mandarin Oriental and the Hard Rock. One thing that hasn’t changed is the city’s warm embrace of anyone wanting to join the fun. Since so few Madrileños are actually from Madrid, everyone is welcome.

IN PICS: This is how to enjoy Madrid like a Rolling Stone

press tour madrid

THEY arrived on a private jet emblazoned with the iconic logo a week ago and since then the Rolling Stones have been enjoying some down time in Spain’s capital.

Keith Richards, Mick Jagger and Ronnie Wood spent their week in luxury at the newly opened Rosewood Villa Magna hotel on the Castellana but ventured out into the city to enjoy some of the most touristy treasures the city has to offer.

Sir Mick, 78, posted some of  his highlights from his stay in the city including a walk through the rose garden at the famous Retiro Park, tapas at a local bar in Chueca and a visit to Picasso’s powerful masterpiece Guernica at the Reina Sofia.

The band were also treated to a flamenco show where the artists performed a flamenco-style version of the band’s 1966 hit ‘Paint it Black’.

In keeping with sentiments expressed in their famous ‘Sympathy to the Devil’ Mick stopped off for a snap infront of the Retiro’s ‘Fallen Angel’ fountain, with its statue commonly acknowledged as the only public monument to the Devil himself.

Mick also posted a photograph of himself outside the Taberna de Angel Sierra in the Chueca district of downtown Madrid, much to the delight of the British expat signwriter responsible for the artwork at the local favourite.

“It’s pretty cool to see Mick standing in front of my sign,” said Tom Graham, who plays guitar in a rock band when he is not painting signs for a living as Freehand Madrid.

“I’ve adored The Stones since Start Me Up (First single I ever bought) and I’ll be going to the gig on Wednesday,” he told the Olive Press.

Keith Richards meanwhile posted an image of himself at the Wanda Metropolitan Stadium setting up for the concert, with a treasure found by a crew member at Madrid’s Rastro flea market.

?????I'm happy to announce my setlists will be back for the Stones Sixty tour! Go here to find out more, and see you tomorrow Madrid! https://t.co/chakL8OYlG pic.twitter.com/ZBkarCiQUj — Ronnie Wood (@ronniewood) May 31, 2022

Trains arriving in Atocha on Wednesday morning were already full of fans heading to the capital ahead of the concert.

“My train was packed full of people wearing Rolling Stones T-shirts and chattering about the concert,” Graham Keeley told the Olive Press when he arrived on an early morning train from Barcelona.

The last time the band played in Madrid was at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in 2014 for their 14 on Fire tour.

The Sixty Tour show will be the first European tour the Rolling Stones will perform without Charlie Watts who died in August last year.

Michigan Central Station releases details for public tours: Registration, times, more

press tour madrid

Michigan Central Station is weeks away from welcoming the public with open houses of the iconic building shining starting June 7.

The long-abandoned train station, which was nearly demolished in 2009, became a national symbol of Detroit's disrepair before undergoing window restorations and rescuing from Ford Motor Co. After spending years restoring the massive structure and facing delays , Ford is ready to let the public see the results.

“After a six-year restoration by Ford and so many others, Michigan Central Station will reopen, reimagined as a place of innovation and culture open to all,” Mary Culler, chair of Michigan Central, said in a news release. “This is a historic moment not just for Michigan Central but for those near and far who love Detroit, and that’s why we’re creating an opening worthy of this achievement that invites everyone to join us for the station’s next chapter, no matter where they are located in the world.”

Not all details were released Monday, but here is what to know about the tours:

Tours, time and dates

Michigan Central will host a three types of events for its opening. The first, dubbed "OPEN Live," will be the main concert event on June 6 at 8:30 p.m. on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration will be online at https://michigancentral.com/open starting at noon Tuesday.

OPEN Houses from June 7-16, allowing visitors can experience the grandeur of the restored station through an "immersive" tour. Visitors can expect to explore various activations, storytelling and art throughout the ground floor of the train station. Registration will be available on a first-come, first-served basis at https://michigancentral.com/open , also expected to be available at noon Tuesday. Individuals will be able to reserve no more than four spots for the tours.

In addition, OPEN Outdoors will take place outside of the train station on the front lawn of the renovated Book Depository building, now known as Newlab. Visitors can expect to learn more about Michigan Central's growing ecosystem, enjoy music and local entertainment, purchase food and beverages, along with Michigan Central merchandise. Registration is not required for this event.

The outdoor event will run from noon to 10 p.m. June 7; 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. June 8; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 9; noon to 8 p.m. June 10-13; 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.; June 14-15; and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 16, city records show.

After the main event, Michigan Central will begin a "phased reactivation" of the train station for several months as restaurant, retail and other commercial and community-focused partners fill the space. The first floor will be open for tours on Fridays and Saturdays through the summer. Expanded hours will later be announced for the fall, when the first phase of commercial activations opens to the public, according to a news release.

Registration details

Registration for Michigan Central events will open at noon on Tuesday at https://michigancentral.com/open .

Getting there

Major events can drive plenty of traffic in the area. Several roads will close throughout the event but visitors can choose from nearby street parking, free parking in the 1501 Wabash St. garage on a first-come, first-served basis, riding the bus through the Detroit Department of Transportation, e-scooters or ridesharing.

Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift in Madrid: dates, timings, setlist and everything you need to know

The Eras tour has arrived in Europe – here’s everything you need to know about her upcoming shows in Madrid

Llorenç Julià Ruiz

Swifties of Madrid , your wait is nearly over. Following the release of her brand-new double album The Tortured Poets Department , Taylor Swift has finally landed in  Europe with the Eras Tour (the highest-grossing tour in history, we’ll have you know).

The tour kicked off in Paris last night  and she’ll be heading to Madrid at the end of May. Got tickets? Lucky you. This is everything you need to know about Taylor Swift’s upcoming shows in the Spanish capital.

When are the Taylor Swift concerts in Madrid?

The global popstar will perform twice at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium , on May 29 and 30 .

What time will Taylor Swift come on stage?

The show on May 29 will start at 8pm, while the performance on May 30 will kick off earlier, at 6.30pm. Based on the timings of her first Paris show, we estimate she’ll take to the stage between 9 and 9.30pm on May 29, and between 7.30 and 8pm on May 30.

When will the concert end?

The Eras Tour shows tend to last over three hours, and some have lasted almost four. Depending on any surprise songs or guest appearances, t he shows should end at around 12.30am on May 29, and 11pm on May 30.

Are there any tickets left?

Sadly both Madrid shows have completely sold out.

How much are the tickets?

Ticket prices range between €85 and €226.50, while VIP passes cost a whopping €589.

What is the setlist for The Eras Tour?

The release of The Tortured Poets Department understandably raised questions about whether Taylor would adapt her setlist to include some of her 31 new songs… and she did not disappoint.

This is the setlist for the Eras Tour, in order, based on the first Paris show:

  • Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince
  • Cruel Summer
  • You Need to Calm Down
  • You Belong With Me
  • We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together
  • I Knew You Were Trouble
  • All Too Well (10-minute version)
  • … Ready For It?
  • Don’t Blame Me
  • Look What You Made Me Do

Folklore/Evermore (now combined into one Era)

  • champagne problems
  • illicit affairs
  • my tears ricochet
  • Blank Space
  • Shake It Off
  • Wildest Dreams

The Tortured Poets Department (new!)

  • But Daddy I Love Him
  • So High School
  • Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?
  • The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived
  • I Can Do It With A Broken Heart

Surprise songs

  • Paris (from Midnights)
  • loml (from TTPD)
  • Lavender Haze
  • Midnight Rain
  • Vigilante Shit

And these are the songs which have been removed:

  • The Archer (from Lover era)
  • Long Live (from Speak Now era)
  • the 1 (from folklore era)
  • the last great american dynasty (from folklore era)
  • ’tis the damn season (from evermore era)
  • tolerate it (from evermore era)

Who will be supporting Taylor Swift in Madrid?

The pop-punk band Paramore will support Taylor throughout the European Eras Tour.

Prohibited objects

The Santiago Bernabéu stadium does not admit bulky objects (which could hamper an evacuation), or drinks or food in containers made from metal, glass, ceramics or wood.

There’s no smoking on the premises, including vaping, and you can’t bring pets either.

Where else in Europe will Taylor Swift perform?

The tour will pass through the capital at the end of May, and will end in Europe on August 20, in London. These are all of Taylor Swift's dates on her European tour:

  • May 17, 18 and 19 - Friends Arena in Stockholm, Sweden

El alemán Christian Kukuk se impone en el Longines Global Champions Tour Gran Premio de Madrid

El alemán Christian Kukuk se impone en el Longines Global Champions Tour Gran Premio de Madrid

Boletín de Deportes

MADRID, 20 May. (EUROPA PRESS) -

2024 charles schwab challenge odds, picks and pga tour predictions, share this article.

press tour madrid

Following a thrilling finish at the PGA Championship on Sunday, the PGA Tour heads to Texas for the 2024 Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial Country Club. Scottie Scheffler comes in as the overwhelming favorite, but Jordan Spieth , Collin Morikawa and other stars will also be teeing it up.

Below, we look at BetMGM Sportsbook’s 2024 Charles Schwab Challenge odds and make our PGA Tour picks and predictions .

Colonial Country Club is once again playing host for this event, and it’ll do so following a complete restoration in the last year. The course was fully restored by Gil Hanse and Jim Wagner, which included removing bunkers, changing the elevation of specific greens and relocating some greens altogether. It’s a much shorter course than Valhalla, coming in at 7,289 yards as a par 70, which puts a greater emphasis on accuracy over length off the tee.

Spieth is one of the former champions teeing it up this week, along with 2023 champion Emiliano Grillo . Justin Rose and Adam Scott have also won this event in the past and will be in the field at Colonial again. Scheffler is the favorite at +275, followed by Morikawa (+1200) and Max Homa (+2000).

Charles Schwab Challenge – Expert picks

Odds provided by BetMGM Sportsbook ; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated Monday at 6:37 p.m. ET.

Jordan Spieth (+2200)

Course history may not be as important this week following the massive renovations Colonial underwent, but it’ll mostly be the same course and that bodes well for Spieth. He’s been up and down all year, but he’s played relatively well in back-to-back weeks with finishes of 29th and 43rd in his last 2 starts. He now comes to an event where he’s won before and has 7 top-10s since 2015. If Spieth is ever going to find momentum, it’ll be this week back home in Texas.

Collin Morikawa (+1200)

Morikawa has a chance to do something similar to what Xander Schauffele did by going from 54-hole leader (or co-leader) to champion the next week. Morikawa is on the brink of winning again after finishing near the top at the Masters and now the PGA Championship, and he’s already finished 2nd at Colonial before (2020). His odds are short, but Morikawa has everything clicking now.

Charles Schwab Challenge picks – contenders

Keegan bradley (+5000).

Bradley has finished 21st and 18th in the last 2 weeks at the Wells Fargo Championship and PGA Championship, continuing to play very well this season. At a shorter course, his lack of length off the tee won’t be penalizing and with Colonial likely to play fairly tough, it fits Bradley’s game well. Bradley hasn’t played here since 2020, but he finished 32nd that year.

Tom Hoge (+5000)

Hoge is fresh off a T-23 at the PGA Championship and has now made the cut in all but 1 of his last 15 starts this season, which includes 2 top-10s and 8 top-25s. He’s a terrific ball-striker, excelling with his irons, which will give him an edge at Colonial where approach play is extremely important.

Charles Schwab Challenge picks – long shots

Brendon todd (+10000).

Todd is one of the shortest hitters on tour, ranking 185th in driving distance. He’s 33rd in driving accuracy, however, which is more important this week at the Charles Schwab Challenge. He finished 8th here in 2021 and 3rd in 2022 before coming in 57th last year, so he’s had success at this event before. He also finished 5th in Texas earlier this year at the Valero Texas Open.

Michael Kim (+15000)

Kim placed 20th in the Myrtle Beach Classic, which was his 5th top-25 finish this season. In his 1st start at this event since 2019, he finished 6th last year. Kim is another player who doesn’t hit it very far but he’s a good putter and about average when it comes to his approach game.

MADRID (AP) — Iga Swiatek avenged her loss in last year’s final to Aryna Sabalenka and won the Madrid Open on Saturday after a third-set tiebreaker.

The top-ranked Swiatek beat No. 2 Sabalenka 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (7) for her third title of the season. The 22-year-old Polish player became the youngest player to reach 20 titles since Caroline Wozniacki in 2012.

Swiatek faced two match points when she was struggling with her serve at 5-6 in the third set. But she held on to force the tiebreaker, where she saved a third match point.

Swiatek collapsed on the red clay after Sabalenka hit long to end a match that lasted 3 hours, 11 minutes, the longest WTA final so far in 2024. Each player broke serve five times.

“Who is going to say that women’s tennis is boring now?” Swiatek said. “Congrats as well to Aryna because we both had an amazing effort today.”

Swiatek will seek her fourth French Open title later this month as the two-time defending champion at Roland Garros.

Swiatek improved her head-to-head record with Sabalenka to 7-3. She has won her last seven finals, since her loss to Sabalenka here in 2023.

Sabalenka got the better of Swiatek last year at Madrid in three sets for the first win over her rival on clay. The two-time Australian Open champion was seeking a record-tying third title in Madrid.

“I had my opportunities,” Sabalenka said. “I wouldn’t say that I kind of missed them or lost them. It was just incredible play from her, and I think that’s the lesson I have to learn.”

Madrid was the only European clay-court tournament at the WTA 500 level or above that Swiatek had yet to win. Now her collection is complete.

On Sunday, Andrey Rublev plays Felix Auger-Aliassime in the men’s final.

Tourists flock to Tornado Alley, paying big bucks for the chance to see dangerous storms

The national weather service is very much not in favor of the public going out in severe weather. but tour operators say they take safety seriously..

press tour madrid

Pat Timmons has seen hail the size of baseballs and lighting storms that filled the sky. She faced wind so strong she could barely stand – and multiple tornadoes, too.

“My friends and family think I’m crazy but I’m having the time of my life,” the 76-year-old from West Des Moines, Iowa, said from a roadside stop in Texas where she was on her second storm-chasing trip of the year with Tempest Tours.

Timmons is one of thousands of people from around the world who flock to Tornado Alley to get as close as safety allows to the massive storms that wash across the American countryside from March through June. As climate change warms the atmosphere, the number of storms increases and the crowds are only growing.

There are over a dozen companies that run storm-chasing tours in the United States, a number that’s increased slowly but steadily over the past few years said Christoffer Björkwall, a Swede who caught the storm chasing bug in 2009 and now runs StormChasingUSA , a website that tracks tour companies.

That doesn't surprise Alan Fyall, Visit Orlando professor of Tourism Marketing at the University of Central Florida. Adventure tourism has been becoming more popular in the past few decades, and especially in the last ten or 15 years with the rise of social media, he said.

“It’s a bigger market than people appreciate,” Fyall said. “People want the thrill and the adrenaline rush.”

Storm-chasing tours are part of that market. They're not your typical bus tour – no visiting tourist traps for quick photos.

Most tour companies run between one to three small vans with perhaps six people in a van. They seldom have more than 20 guests per trip. The groups drive as far south as Texas and as far north as the Canadian border, chasing images on a radar screen and then patiently waiting for a storm to form.

"The guys will find us a high place where we can sit for half an hour and we just keep watching and photographing it," said Timmons.

Costs vary between $2,000 and $4,500 depending on how long, how luxurious and how many people are on the trip. The season typically lasts from April through August, though May is generally the busiest month.

Björkwall estimates between a quarter and a third of people who go on these kinds of tours are from outside the U.S.

“This kind of weather only exists in the United States,” he said. Add to that an excellent system of freeways and rural roads, accessible weather data and the endless vistas of the plains – it makes for a perfect recipe.

It's "something no other place has."

How safe are storm-chasing tours?

The National Weather Service is very much not in favor of the public going out in severe weather and would much rather have people stay safely at home.

“The NWS does not encourage anyone to pursue dangerous storms for any reason other than promoting public safety (spotting) and official research,” the agency says in a FAQ about severe weather.

But the agency acknowledges that despite the dangers, people do. So it cautiously suggests that tours are a better way of doing it. “Joining one of the professional tour groups is probably safer than going out yourself without appropriate training.”

Fyall says that's the trick of this kind of extreme travel. “The key with adventure tourism is to make it look as dangerous as possible but at the same time make it as risk-free as possible."

Tour operators are very clear that while there’s never a guarantee of safety, they do everything they can to keep their clients satisfied but safe, said Roger Hill of Silver Lining Tours based in Denver.

“Any time you’re around a severe thunderstorm, especially a supercell thunderstorm, there’s an inherent risk. You can’t keep anything 100% safe, it’s not possible. That’s why every tour operator has guests sign a waiver saying these are the potential dangers,” he said.

Tours offer long and detailed safety information before anyone even sets foot in a van.

“The first night they went over safety and how everything works, down to how to get in and out of the van and who has responsibility for moving the back seat so the last person could get out quickly,” said Samantha Ashby, 33, who took her first storm-chasing tour earlier this month.

And unlike in the movies, tours stay well away from the heart of the action. They want a vantage point with a vista, not a target.

“We try to position ourselves a few miles from the storm so we’re out of the way of large hail or lightning. And if a tornado forms, you always have an escape route planned,” Hill said.

If a storm starts getting too close, they move further away.

The thrill is not seeing things get destroyed, like in the movies, but to see something so powerful and beyond any human control, said Burns.

"The best storms for us are out in the middle of nowhere. They’re not going to hurt anything, maybe some fence posts some hay bales. But when it’s right in front of you it makes you feel really insubstantial,” he said.

But there are dangers. Quite a few years ago, a lightning bolt hit one of his vans, destroying it. But none of the guests were injured because the electricity went through the van and into the ground.

Surprisingly, the guests loved it. “About every one of those guests came back, they said it was so much fun,” he said.

A typical day on a storm-chasing tour

A typical day on one of the tours means driving hundreds of miles. They usually begin around 9 or 10 in the morning, after the tour guides have decided on a likely area for storms.

“The day before our chase we look at the data and make our forecast and then plan our logistics,” said Erik Burns, the owner of Tornadic Expeditions in Whitesboro, Texas.

Getting to the next spot might mean traveling halfway across a state and then setting up to wait for what might come.

Twisters get the press, but many tourgoers say that's not what ends up being the most awe-inspiring.

“We all come to see the tornadoes, but we go home in love with supercells,” said Timmons. These are enormous storms that can reach up to 10 miles in diameter and be 50,000 feet tall , according to the National Severe Storm Laboratory.

“When you get them in late afternoon when the sun lights them up they’re just incredible, they just blossom and grow. Sometimes they’ll be lightning and they get lit up from inside, they cover the sky,” she said.

Something else she fell in love with was seeing a part of the country most people never see. Despite living in Iowa, the tours have given her a new appreciation for the country.

“It’s just getting to roll down the road and just watch American small towns,” she said. “America is beautiful. We’ve met the kindest people.”

The danger of traffic

While being flattened by a tornado might seem the biggest danger, traffic is more of a threat, say tour leaders.

“The traffic issue has gotten horrible, there’s no question about it,” said Hill. May, which is prime tornado month, is especially bad.

“When we first started running tours in the late ’90s a lot of times there was no one else around. But now if you have a very significant threat area in Oklahoma or Kansas, every storm chaser or storm spotter or local resident is out there chasing. You can get a line of traffic that’s a mile or more long,” he said.

“It can be a little chaotic,” said Björkwall, who’s now been on 11 tours. “I have a friend who was in El Reno , the biggest tornado in the world, and he was stuck and couldn’t get out because there were too many cars on the road.”

Between social media, radar, weather forecasting and weather-sharing apps, hundreds of people can converge on an area where large storms or tornadoes are anticipated. Tour companies and news crews make up the smallest percentage of the cars on the road at that point, said Björkwall.

“There are thousands and thousands of storm chasers, that number keeps growing every year, everybody comes out on the Plains in May,” said Hill.

That’s likely to increase this summer with the arrival of a new movie about storm chasing.

New movie could increase interest

Hollywood plays a surprising role in the business of storm chasing.

Silver Lining Tours launched a year after the release of the 1996 movie “Twister,” about a group of storm chasers in Oklahoma.

“We really feel that movie started the storm-chasing industry,” said Hill, who’s been with the company since 2000.

In July, a new stand-alone sequel, “ Twisters ” will be hitting theaters and he expects an even greater surge of interest.

“People underestimate the power that the movies have in swaying people’s behavior. It’s a huge driver of tourism,” said Fyall.

If 1996's "Twister" was any indication, tour groups might see a flood of new customers come summer. But it's not clear there will be space for them. There are not that many tour companies and most of them sell out a full year in advance.

"We’re already 70% filled for next year," said Burns of Tornadic Expeditions.

Tourists can form bonds while storm-chasing

The experience was so profound that Ashby just finished a tour the first week in May and has already booked another.

Her group saw eight tornadoes in seven days, which was “incredible and powerful,” said the 911 dispatcher from northern Virginia.

“There were four guests in our van all told and we decided it was so amazing that we all wanted to do it again,” she said.

The tours for 2025 were already full so they had to schedule for 2026. “I’ve never planned a vacation that for out before,” she said.

“This was four people I’d never met before and now we’re going to spend 10 days together and do it all over again,” she said.

Spain's Vox party hosts global far right ahead of EU elections

Marine Le Pen, Viktor Orban, Giorgia Meloni, Javier Milei and even pro-Trump Americans took up the Spanish nationalist party's invitation to prepare 'a global alliance between patriots' at the Viva 24 conference in Madrid on Sunday.

Spanish far-right Vox party leader Santiago Abascal speaks during a rally organised by the Vox party ahead of the European elections, with various far-right leaders including Argentina's President Javier Milei, in Madrid, Spain, May 19, 2024.

"Li-ber-tad! Li-ber-tad!" In the old arena of the Palacio Vistalegre in Madrid on Sunday, May 19, the stands overflowed with people, Spanish flags twirled and thunderous applause greeted far-right leaders from Europe and beyond, in response to an invitation from the Spanish nationalist party Vox. They repeated the words "wokism," "globalism" and "socialism" in their speeches, eliciting appropriate booing from the crowd. Another word, "freedom," was chanted over and over again while insults against the Spanish president's left-wing government regularly rose from the stands, where almost 10,000 people were seated.

After two days of meetings and round tables organized on May 17 and 18 in the Spanish capital by the European Conservatives and Reformists (CRE) group, to which Vox belongs, on "freedom in the face of cancel culture," "the criminal left," "the conservative alternative to illegal immigration" or "Judeo-Christian tourism," the Spanish party decided to broaden the spectrum of participants at the big Viva 24 closing rally, the launch pad for the European elections on June 9.

The stated aim of Vox president Santiago Abascal was also to prepare "a global alliance of patriots," in the face of "socialist globalism," "woke totalitarianism" and "feminist supremacism," at a time when far-right parties are expected to surge in the European elections.

Strong borders

Rassemblement National (far right, RN) leader Marine Le Pen, although a member of the European Parliament's Identity and Democracy (ID) group, was also there. She called for June 9 to be "a day of deliverance and hope" and warned against the risk of turning the European Union into a "centralized European superstate." She also tapped into a widely shared anti-immigration discourse in Vistalegre. "Entire areas of my country, France, are given over to migratory submersion and today escape the authority of the state," she said, denouncing a "situation of migratory separatism" and calling for "starting the reorientation of the European Union."

André Ventura, president of the Portuguese party Chega (Enough) and member of ID, called for "strong borders" against "Islamist and Muslim immigration" and defined the parties in attendance as the "last hope" when "the future of our civilization" is at stake.

Calling the June 9 elections "decisive" for "putting an end to anti-natural majorities" between the right-wing European People's Party (EPP) and Europe's Social Democrats, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni appeared via videoconference. Applauded, she warned against "attempts to erase our Christian roots" and "call into question the family."
