STOP 1 Rhodes Old Town

You will enter the Medieval town with your guide through D’Amboise gate and walk by the Grand Master Palace and the famous Knights’ street.

STOP 2 Mandraki Harbor

We will continue our tour through the new part of the town where you will see some very impressive monumental buildings built by the Italians. Here at Mandraki harbor entrance is believed that once stood the great statue of the Colossus of Rhodes – one of the seven wonders of the Ancient World.

STOP 3 Colossus of Rhodes

The Colossus of Rhodes was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World and the most ambitious and tallest statue( between 30 to 33 meters high) of the Hellenistic period. The statue was a depiction of the Greek Titan Helios and was meant to celebrate the victory over the Dimitrios the Besieger (ruler of Cyprus) in 305 BC. Bearing a striking resemblance to the Statue of Liberty in the United States, the Colossus of Rhodes stood for no more than 56 years when a strong earthquake destroyed it. In the seventh century A.D., the Arabs conquered Rhodes and broke the remains of the Colossus up into smaller pieces and sold it as scrap metal. Legend says it took 900 camels to carry away the pieces. A sad end for what must have been a majestic work of art.

STOP 4 Rhodes Acropolis

Now we will continue through the city and see more of the great Italian architecture. We will stop for pictures also at the Northen tip of the island where the Mediterranean and the Aegean seas meet each other. Then we will drive to Monthe Smith Hill where you can enjoy exceptional panoramic views of the city and the seashore, and also visit the ruins of the Temple of Apollo, the impressive open-air ancient Stadium and the Amphitheatre.

STOP 5 Rhodes Pottery Factory

Upon request, during your tour, you can also have a stop at a pottery factory. You will be able to see how beautiful ceramics are made. Rhodes has a long history of pottery going back many centuries at least to the time of the ancient cities. Replicas of designs produced in those times are still been manufactured today together with new modern designs in a younger generation.

STOP 6 Lindos Panoramic view & St. Paul's Bay

Little before we reach the beautiful village of Lindos we will stop at a place for a panoramic view of the village together with its Acropolis on the top to capture this stunning view.

STOP 7 Lindos Village and Acropolis

Together with your guide you will walk up through the small, winding streets and will eventually reach the Acropolis on the top. A dramatic view will be your great reward combined with lots of history and great photo opportunities(entrance fee 12Euro/per person and not included in our price). The Acropolis in Lindos is the second most popular Acropolis in Greece after the Parthenon in Athens.

We will return back to the city of Rhodes and we can leave you directly to your hotel or ship or at any point of interest

Best of Rhodes and LIndos Half Day Private Tour This is an AWESOME half day tour. Our guide Dora and our driver met us right on the pier where our ship docked. No stress in wondering if they would be on time or at the right place. Our group of 14 decided to forego a tour of the Acropolis for lunch at a local tavern. Lunch was maginificent to say the least. Dora our guide was a true provessional. Thoroughly knowledgeable in the history of both Rhodes and Lindos. She was also very entertaining which our group really enjoyed. Fantastic private tour to Lindos . We drive to Lindos with very comfortable and new minibus. Manos like always was very punctual and welcoming. On the way to Lindos we stay to make some nice photos, then go Lindos town and swimming to St. Pauls bay. Excellent travel with excellent company. Manos is the best!

We booked for us and our teenage daughter and had a fantastic time from start to finish. We received clear instructions in an email on where the bus would pick us up. Our driver George, was waiting for us right outside the hotel where they said they would, ready to go to the boat. George is very friendly which made the transfer to the boat an enjoyable experience. The boat trip was good, but very sunny so we opted to stay on the lower deck under the shade. On the way to the main town on Symi, we stopped at the Monastery of Archangel Michael. My husband, 18 yr old son and I booked this tour so we would understand more of the historical facts about both these amazing towns and we weren’t disappointed. Our guide Marianna was brilliant! Full of enthusiasm, wit and knowledge, she really made the tour. We did have a couple of young child in the tour which were well behaved but I wouldn’t recommend you take small children as it’s very hot and there is lots of walking in both Lindos and Rhodes old town. Lindos – absolutely beautiful and very hot. We did walk up to the Acropolis and it’s a definite if you can but please don’t we tempted by the donkey rides, I really felt for the poor animals, use your own will power and feet it’s much more rewarding and the views all the way up and from the top are totally breathtaking. This tour was the best day of our holiday! Everything about it was fantastic. We were very fortunate in that the bus picked us up outside our hotel (we were staying in Sunwing Kallithea), and were warmly welcomed by both the tour guide, and the bus driver. Throughout the entire day, the amazing tour guide lady provided us with lots of amazing information and knowledge of the local area, and the different areas that we were visiting. She was incredibly friendly, and provided honest advise about each sight we visited, for example, she suggested at the butterfly valley to complete the upper valley rather than the lower valley as we were able to see more, and she was correct. All three sights were worth the visit. We had to pay entry for the kallithea springs (2 euros), and the butterfly valley (5 euros), totalling only 7 euros which was fantastic....

The tour started with a prompt pick up, we were greeted with a friendly smile by Mariana our tour guide. Between destinations she gave us an insightful talk of the highlights of this beautiful island where we learnt more about the history of the places we would visit. Entry to each place was very reasonable coating approx €15-20 per couple for the three stops, and we were able to enjoy each stop with ample time. Our driver Yanis was very pleasant and provided a safe and comfortable journey. Lovely people, fabulous sites to experience. Full of information, history and heart from a true gem of an island. Our interaction has started at the travel agency where we have been kindly and politely greeted by a very pleasant and professional woman who has made us feel welcomed and important. She was very well informed, had great communication skills and a no sale approach (which is always welcomed) and was very easy to talk to which put us at easy. The trip (in my opinion – considering the taxi one way cost €65 from our hotel) was a good value for money. The great service, my absolute satisfaction with this agency however comes from our misfortune. On the way back we missed the bus departure (what can I say, send 2 women into a labyrinth type of shopping mall and this is the outcome ?). We called the agency and they without any hesitation sent a separate mini bus for us – what an upgrade ? Manos (the boss)...

Well organized! Response to email is very quick and pleasant. Booked and paid online for the following day. Driver was very kind and ahead of schedule to pick us up. Prices are very good and kids under 12 go half price. Busses are new, air conditioned and clean. The best on Rhodes!

Born in Rhodes in 1963, when I was four years old, we immigrated with my family in Africa, in the Belgian Congo and then in Rhodesia (Zimbabwe). Returning to our home place in 1974,  I studied business management in Brussels and became a Professional Guide of Greece in 1997. Greece launches ‘free’ holidays for tourists who fled 2023 Rhodes wildfires

Up to 25,000 holidaymakers, mainly from Britain, in line for vouchers to cover a week’s hotel stay

It has required new legislation and navigation of copious red tape but nine months after wildfires devastated Rhodes , Greece has launched the first “free” holidays for thousands of tourists forced to flee the island.

In a decision tourism officials call a world first, up to 25,000 affected holidaymakers will, as of this week, be eligible for compensation.

“The scheme is up and running as the prime minister promised,” the Greek tourism ministry’s general secretary, Myron Flouris, told the Guardian. “It’s been a very complicated process not least, I think, because we’re the first country in the world to do this.”

Under the programme , people who stayed in hotels that were evacuated because of the July fires will be able to redeem e-vouchers worth up to €500 to cover the accommodation charges of a week-long stay. The initiative will be run in two phases: between now and 31 May and 1 October to 15 November.

Take-up has already been strong, tourism officials in Rhodes say, with more than 5,000 holidaymakers enrolling on the scheme’s register of beneficiaries. “Anyone who was staying in areas that were affected by the fires is eligible,” said Yannis Papavasiliou, who heads the island’s union of hoteliers. “The response has been very good and we are told will be even stronger come the autumn.”

He said compensation would reflect the amount clients originally paid to tour operators and would range from €300 to €500. “It will apply only to hotels, not Airbnb-style private accommodation. At the end of the day Greece is making good on its promise to recompense all those who lost their holidays because of climate change.”

The country’s centre-right government, led by Kyriakos Mitsotakis, announced the initiative on ITV’s Good Morning Britain within days of thousands of stranded holidaymakers being forced to cut short their trips as the wildfires raged.

Most of those put on repatriation flights were Britons.

Visiting the island on Monday, Mitsotakis, who ordered the mass evacuation as a preventive measure, said wildfires would inevitably increase as a result of the climate emergency. “All of the Mediterranean is a hotspot for climate change. That, statistically, means we will have more fires and probably more floods,” he told a conference organised in Rhodes by the European Travel Commission under the fitting title: EU Tourism: Resilience in the Era of the Climate Crisis.

What mattered most was human life, the Greek leader said. “It wasn’t easy … to evacuate 25,000 visitors but we did it safely and we are very proud of the fact that we managed to confront this crisis essentially without mourning [the loss] of human life.”

One UK holidaymaker planning to take up the offer is Sara van Oostrum, a business owner from Hampshire, and her partner, though she said her daughter would not be joining as she felt traumatised by the experience. “We thought at the time our daughter was dealing really well, but on reflection children are funny things, they’re like sponges and take in everything and it doesn’t come out till afterwards – she doesn’t want to return,” she said.

Last August, the family were evacuated from a smoke-filled hotel in which they were handed masks and wet towels to prevent inhalation, before walking for four hours in 34C heat to another hotel, from which they were also evacuated as it became surrounded by flames. They spent the night sleeping on a floor, and the following day learned that they had to wait three days for a repatriation flight.

Since the Greek government announced the initiative last year, Van Oostrum has been messaging her tour operator, Tui, and was only recently able to get further information about the voucher. She is confused by the terms of the offer, including which hotels will be available, whether she will receive a free trip or a discount, and whether it covers children.

She said the couple had “mixed feelings” about whether to return to the hotel and beach they stayed at. “We’d probably prefer to stay elsewhere on the island to move on from the whole experience,” she said, adding: “They want to encourage people back, which is nice. We’ll take up the offer, and we’ll spend money on the island.”

Although many UK holidaymakers visit Rhodes with tour operators, including Jet2, TUI and Thomas Cook, they are expected to liaise directly with the Greek government to obtain their vouchers. TUI said its customers should individually contact the Greek government online, while Thomas Cook said the process was managed by the Greek tourist board, Rhodes authorities and participating hoteliers, rather than its team.
