What You Need To Know When Hiring An NRVIA Certified RV Inspector

  • Make sure you get a contract
  • Know what the report will cover
  • Ask for a sample report
  • Know what is being inspected
  • Ask for points of inspection
  • Review the NRVIA Standards of Practice
  • Be sure the seller knows that you want a third-party independent certified RV inspector

Things to know:

  • When you do receive a phone call or email from an NRVIA certified RV Inspector, be sure to ask them for their Points of Inspection list in addition to the pricing and availability information.
  • Often, these inspectors will charge you a mileage fee if they have to go out of their normal route to accommodate your request.
  • You should interview your inspector or anyone you hire to perform a service for you. Ask them about their education, their certifications, etc. If you want to verify an NRVIA certified RV inspector, please reach out to the NRVIA by email: [email protected] or phone (855) 472-9948 .

Beginner’s RV Inspection Checklist for Travel Trailers or Motorhomes

Published on April 29th, 2020 by Levi Henley (Full-Time RVer, Content Manager and Media Specialist for RV LIFE)

Buying an RV for the first time is an exciting and scary experience. You’ve finally reached that dream, but the realities of it can feel heavy. There are so many choices, things to look for, and you’re not totally sure what’s a good deal or not.

If you’ve decided to buy a used RV , you’re taking advantage of the fact that RVs depreciate each year. In the first year, new RVs depreciate about 20%. Finding a well-kept RV at a good price ( more information in our article: “ Buying an RV: 10 Ways to Get a Good Deal ” ) isn’t that difficult if you know what to look for.

We’ve created a detailed checklist for you to inspect the RV you’re interested in. Feel free to print it out and bring it with you when you go for your walkthrough. Be prepared to spend a significant amount of time on a complete inspection.

Why it’s important to do your own inspection.

RV inspection by man

Completing your own inspection does a number of things for you. It gives you a complete picture of the RV. You’ll know the current condition, what your repair list will be, and won’t be surprised by any unknown X-factors.

Dealerships do there best to go through the RVs they receive from trade-ins or auctions they plan to sell on their used lot. Their inspection checklist goes through a lot of the coach. Their reviews and repairs may focus on common issues.

Private sellers may not know the whole picture. The RV they’re selling could be sitting for a while. New issues may arise on the coach that they’re unaware of.

The bottom line is, once you sign all of the paperwork, any problems with the coach become your problems. Taking the extra time to thoroughly walk through the RV before you sign anything may be annoying, but finding those problems could save you in the long run. Even if you don’t find anything, at least you have the peace of mind knowing all of the facts.

Come Prepared

You’ll want to put together a toolbox of inspection items. Most of these items you probably have lying around your home already. Others you can pick up online or at your local hardware store for under $20 each.

  • A medium-sized Phillips and flathead screwdriver
  • Needlenose pliers
  • Tire pressure gauge
  • Electric outlet tester
  • USB charger station tester
  • Liquid soap, water, dixie cup, wooden stir
  • The checklist below
  • 2 pens of different colors

The multimeter should a standard-issue item in your RV toolbox. You’ll need it in the future to test your batteries, electrical system, and almost anything concerning electricity. The outlet testers will show you if any of them are not working.

The liquid soap and water will help you find leaks in pressurized hoses. There are colored dyes you can buy that do the same thing. Putting soapy water around connections will show you if there’s a leak or not.

We recommend at least two pens of different colors. When you’re making your notes, having a pen color that stands out from the other will help you differentiate urgent matters from relative issues. A missing refrigerator shelf isn’t as important of an issue as a window that won’t open.

Issues to Look for Throughout the RV

Travel trailer camping spot

As you inspect the RV, there are some common problems to look for. They can occur regardless of the section. These are issues that can happen to any RV.

Edges are sealed with caulking and putty. Look for any gaps, cracking, or any of it not adhering. This type of inspection should be apart of your annual preventive maintenance and is fixed with a strip of silicone caulk.

Water damage or staining is a result of a leak somewhere. It may not be an exterior leak. There are sections in the wall or in cabinets you can access to hunt down the leak source to determine how serious the problem is.

Rotting wood, mold, and mildew are serious problems. Depending on where the wood is, it could be replaced and the mildew can be scrubbed clean. If you have black mold, cleaning it out correctly is expensive and toxic.

Rubber seals and the roof can become dry and flaky. This dry rot can be restored or replaced. If you have soft spots on the roof, this means that it needs replacing.

Insects, small reptiles, and rodents like to find there way into dormant RVs. Light infestations can be resolved through pest control strategies. Heavier infestations can involve severe damage to the structure of the coach itself.

Many who live the RV lifestyle will make needed repairs themselves. If done correctly, they’re just as good as professional jobs. Inspect any repair work that was done by the previous owner to see if it was done correctly and completed safely.

How To Find RV State Inspection Near Me (Helpful Guide)

  • October 9, 2019 /
  • RV Driving /
  • By James V. /

Just to make sure everything is okay, s tate and other government officials like to make sure vehicles are safe to operate and be on the road. That is the reasoning behind the different inspections RV owners have to go through in order to have their vehicles on the road when they want.

How To Find RV State Inspection Near Me: One of the best ways to find a state inspection site near you is Google Maps or nrvia.org/locate . Another option is to ask on any RV Forum. Most likely there will be a member or two near your location and can help you out.

If not, just contact your local RV dealer and they should have the information you need. To find out more about state inspections for RVs just continue to read our article. It is filled with the information you need so you can have your RV inspected correctly.

Do RVs Need an Inspection?

Do-RVs-Need-an-Inspection

The good news is that your RV may not need an inspection. The bad news is that it will if you live in a state that requires RV inspections. In other words, your RV needs to be inspected only if you are registering it in a state that requires RV inspections.

There is more good news. If your RV is registered in a state that does not require RV inspections, then you do not have to get one when you enter a state that does require them.

You can camp for weeks, say in Texas , if your RV is licensed and registered in South Dakota. The former requires inspections if you register your RV there but the latter does not. So you are safe if you are from South Dakota or use a South Dakota address for your RV’s registration address.

RV State Inspection

Each state is going to be different. That is the major negative about living in a free country where individual states get to make their own laws and regulations. The only consistency you may get is that some states require RV inspections and others do not.

Then the other thing you can count on is that these rules will vary on the scale of relaxed to strict. For example, North Carolina will not issue a new license tag until the inspection is completed. You have 90 days before the expiry of your current tags to get the inspection done.

On the other hand, Texas says you need to get an inspection on a new RV and have 2 years before you have to get another one. After that initial 2-year period, the inspections come annually.

Also, be careful as it may not be a state requirement to have your RV inspected. Texas usually lets the different counties require that to be done and not all counties in the state require an RV inspection.

The best thing to do is check with your state’s motor vehicle office to see what is required for your RV.

Who Does RV Inspections

Who-Does-RV-Inspections

There seems to be a variety of places that can conduct these inspections. Some say that the commercial truck inspection stations can do the deed and others say that they use the local repair shop to get it done.

There seems to be no hard and fast rule on who does the inspection. You can also get the inspection done at RV dealerships, their repair shops, and other places. Now there is a thing called a certified RV inspection which is conducted by the NRVIA .

This is just an inspection service to help you find out all the details of the RV you intend to buy. These inspectors are formally trained by the NRVIA and know what to look for and how to communicate what they have found. Appointments are needed to use this service.

In Canada, RVs, TTs and every recreational vehicle except for an ATV needs a yearly inspection. Canadian inspectors do not stop at checking taillights, turn signals and other surface checks. They go through the vehicle with a fine-tooth comb.

So check with your local state or RV dealer to find out who is approved to make the inspection for you. It may not be as intense as the NRVIA or the Canadian version and it may not cost you a lot of money to have done.

How Much Does an RV Inspection Cost

This is going to depend on who does the inspection and what is covered by that work. One non-state company only charges $12.50 for the inspection but that fee may not include an emissions check.

Our research did not uncover a lot of costs for state or county fees but we did uncover quite a few private costs if you want a thorough inspection done to your RV. To find out the cost in your area you need to contact your local DMV office or RV dealer.

They would tell you if an inspection is required for your RV or not and what the cost will be. For NRVIA, you are looking at paying between $500 to $800 approx . Other private inspection services can cost between $150 and $350 depending on what type of inspection you want to be done and where it is done.

Some good news, some people pay as little as $7 for their inspections but those prices have probably gone up since they were done. A lot will depend on if your RV registration address is in a big city or in a small little cow town. Cities tend to require more work to be done and you have to pay for that extra service.

What Does an RV Inspection Consist of

What-Does-an-RV-Inspection-Consist-of

Some inspections are for simple things like emissions and safety. When conducted by the state or county, or authorized by them, these inspections simply cover the basics of turn signals, headlights, brake lights, brakes, and your emissions system.

There are also private inspections that cover the whole RV inspecting items like appliances, heaters, slide outs and every feature and function of the RV. These are the ones that can really ding your pocketbook.

But they cover just about every nook and cranny on your prospective RV. To get a more detailed idea of what is involved, first check to see if your state or county requires an inspection or not.

Then ask them what is being inspected and how long it will take. The last word on Canada is that the fee is about $30 CDN, but that may be higher now, but the inspection covers everything including removing the wheels to check brakes and other wheel related parts.

What you have to watch out for is a dealer inspection on the RVs that they sell. They may charge you upwards of $700 and then when it rains, you have to go back and get another $500 worth of repairs done on issues the dealer supposedly missed.

Not all inspections are on the up and up so be careful where you go.

RV Inspection for Registration

This is a requirement in at least 2 states that we know of. Texas and North Carolina. There may be more states that require inspections before they register your RV, TT or other recreational vehicle or trailer.

You have to call your state’s DMV office to find out for sure. While you are at it, you should ask how much the inspection costs, where it can be done and what is covered in the inspection. Get all the facts before you go in and register your RV, etc.

Also, there may be age exemptions as well. If you have an older RV, you may not be required to have an inspection. You should also ask your local DMV office about this issue. You may be lucky and not have to pay for an inspection if your RV is older than 20 or 25 years.

New York is another state that requires an inspection sticker before registration of the towable trailer. You need to carry that sticker in the tow vehicle at all times. Each state will have its own requirements for you to meet, so it is best to inquire before you buy.

RV Inspection Before Buying

This is not a mandatory duty. It is advisable and highly recommended one as sellers do not always tell the truth about their RV. One buyer did hire an NRVIA inspector to check out the vehicle before he or she paid any money.

The inspector found many issues with the vehicle and saw that the seller was not being honest. Getting an inspection before you buy is a good thing to do. It may cost some money upfront but save you a lot in the long run.

There are many companies out there that will do private inspections before the sale is complete. This is for your peace of mind but you should be aware that these inspections are not as cheap as the mandatory state or county inspections.

We have seen where some of the inspection fees can go as high as $1200. other companies’ fees are more reasonable and their cost will depend on what is inspected and how big or small the RV is.

As we said the cost of the private inspection may well be worth it as one inspector found where a seller covered up a crack in the street sidewall of an RV with a sport’s team sticker and it was not a small sticker. Here is the link to that inspection with pictures.

You will have to decide if a private pre-purchase inspection is worth it or not.

RV Buying Inspection Checklist

RV-Buying-Inspection-Checklist

These will vary between the companies doing the inspection and what type of inspection you want done. The NRVIA, which started in 2014, has their standard uniform checklist which covers a lot of territory on your prospective RV.

They have their usual; Disclaimers and limitation warnings as well as an introduction to let you know what is covered and what is left out. You can view their full checklist at this link .

Another company can do a safety check only for $350 and it covers propane systems, leveling systems, king pin condition, VIN confirmation, check your holding tanks and a lot more.

They also offer a how to operate your RV inspection for $150. This task gives you the proper instructions on how to operate different features on your RV including slide outs. To see the checklist for both inspections just click here .

If you want to do your own inspection and save yourself some costs and other fees, here is a link to a downloadable and printable inspection form you can use. If you need tips on how to do your own inspection, then click this link .

That latter link provides you with all the tips and tricks you need to know about making sure your personal inspection is thorough and accurate. Then this link gives you both tips and a printable form to use.

Whether you hire someone or do it yourself, your inspections protect you from possible money pit traps that have you throwing more money at your newly purchased RV than you intended or expected.

Some Final Words

While they can be a hassle and a pain in the neck, state inspections are a good thing. These inspections make sure your RV is fit for the road and makes sure you know what is going on with your vehicle.

Usually state or county inspections can be done just about anywhere that the government officials have authorized to conduct their inspections. You should not have to go too far out of your way to find a station that will do it for you for a nominal fee.

For pre-purchase inspections, these are up to you. You may not like the cost that comes with using these services but they may save you thousands of dollars after you purchase the vehicle or trailer.

Inspectors will find lots of hidden secrets that you may not think about looking at. So consider getting a private inspection before you buy a used RV .

RV Inspection And Care

RV Inspection And Care

A NRVIA certified inspector explains how you can inspect and care for your own RV.

RV Inspectors – What They Do And How You Can Find Them

RV inspectors - What They do and how to find them

RV inspectors – increasingly more RVers are realizing the value of these skilled RV experts when its time to buy an RV .

But there is still a lot of confusion about them as well.

What exactly do they do? How do you find them? How much do they charge? When should you hire them?

These are all great questions that need to be answered. The good news is that I am an NRVIA certified RV inspector and I will be happy to explain what you need to know.

Table of Contents

Rv inspectors – what do they do, why rv inspections are complicated, what does an rv inspection cover, what to expect from an rv inspection, qualified rv inspectors – how do you find them, what does an rv inspection cost, when should you hire an rv inspector, conclusion about rv inspectors.

Probably the best way to think of RV inspectors is to think of them as the equivalent of a home inspector.

In other words, buyers often hire the services of a home inspector before they buy a house. And that inspector goes through the house thoroughly and provides a detailed report about its condition.

Many people these days would not even consider purchasing a home without a thorough home inspection beforehand.

Well, an RV inspector does essentially the same thing, only with RVs.

RV inspectors are like home inspectors

One advantage that home inspectors have is that their subject doesn’t have to move. It’s only for living in as a residence.

But RV inspectors have to be knowledgeable with more than just the living area of an RV. That’s because RVs are mobile and can travel long distances.

So this means that the inspector has to also be familiar with the mobile components of this traveling home as well. Because it is actually a blend of both a house and a vehicle.

In addition to that, it can often have multiple fuel and power sources. And some appliances can run on more than just one source of power.

For instance, a typical RV refrigerator usually needs 12 volt, 120 volt and LP gas lines to function correctly.

So clearly, RV inspections require experts with specialized training and experience.

First of all, it’s important to note that RV inspections do not involve repairing any problems that are found.

Download my R V guidebooks

That is not the function of the inspector. Instead, the inspector focuses on testing and examining all components of the RV. And the goal is to determine whether they are in workable and acceptable condition or not.

To do this, the RV inspector will go over the RV from the roof all the way down to the tires. The inspection will include every major system on the RV.

These include roofing, plumbing, electrical, safety equipment, waste systems, appliances, and much more. It’s really a time-consuming and comprehensive endeavor!

If a problem is found, the inspector will note it and often take a picture of the issue. Then a brief recommendation about how to address the issue is provided.

And this brings us to the RV inspection report. Because that is what communicates the inspector’s findings to the prospective buyer.

The inspection report readability is absolutely critical for the RV buyer. Because it doesn’t matter how much the RV inspector knows about RVs, if that knowledge isn’t communicated clearly.

In addition to a written report that is comprehensive and understandable, the inspector should be available for questions afterward.

Most RV buyers aren’t familiar with all of the components of an RV rig. So naturally, they may not understand some of the report information.

That’s why a good inspector makes themselves available to help answer questions on the part of the prospective buyer. It’s best to save this question and answer session until after the inspection is finished though.

Post-inspection phone call with an RV inspector

That way the RV inspector can focus on the job at hand while involved in the inspection process.

But here are a couple of insights about what questions an RV inspector can’t answer:

  • Don’t expect the inspector to provide an estimate of the cost of repairs for issues found. RV inspectors are not necessarily RV repair technicians or service people. So any estimate they provide could often be inaccurate. But armed with the information in the report, an accurate repair estimate can be ascertained. Just a few phone calls to local RV repair facilities is usually all that’s needed.
  • The other question RV inspectors won’t answer is “Would you buy this RV?” Of course, that is what many prospective RV buyers want to know. But the answer to that question is irrelevant. It doesn’t matter what the inspector would decide about the buying decision. What matters is whether the prospective buyer feels the RV is still worth buying after learning its true condition. So please don’t try to shift the buying decision to the RV inspector.

The best way to find a truly qualified RV inspector is to visit NRVIA.org online. The NRVIA is an organization that trains and certifies RV inspectors.

Once an inspector passes their certification process, they can be recommended by the NRVIA for use by the public.

Then the NRVIA tracks the locations of their certified inspectors nationwide. Then all prospective buyers have to do is visit the organization’s website to find a local available inspector.

You can find certified RV inspectors by clicking here

How To Avoid Buying An RV Money Pit

To find an inspector, just click on the link at the top of the page entitled “Locate An Inspector”. On the following page, enter your location and a list of local certified inspectors will be provided.

rv travel trailer inspection near me

From there, just contact them and inquire about their availability for the RV inspection. Some may not be available when you inquire. So just expand your search further outward from your location to find one that is available.

In some cases, an RV inspector may not be found easily though. If that is the case, just email the NRVIA or call them at the contact information they provide on their website.

If you explain that you have done all you can to find an inspector, they often can still help further. To do this, they put out a notice to all inspectors in their network for help.

Many RV inspectors are willing to travel since they are RVers too. So they may be willing to come to your location to help out.

I get a lot of questions about how much an RV inspection costs. The answer is that it depends on what the RV inspector chooses to charge for the inspection.

RV inspectors are allowed by the NRVIA to set their own fees and charges. So you may find a fairly wide disparity in what each one charges for an RV inspection.

And there can be quite a bit of difference in how labor and time intensive inspecting different types of RVs can be. For instance, a small travel trailer will not take nearly as much effort to inspect as a 40+ foot diesel pusher motorhome .

Having said all of that, let me provide some general expectations for RV inspection costs.

Larger RVs like big fifth wheels and larger motorhomes can cost on average between $600 – $1100 in most cases. Smaller RVs like travel trailers and shorter motorhomes are often less.

You may find an inspector that charges more than the range mentioned above. But you may also find someone who charges less as well.

But there is an important point to keep in mind here. And that is that whatever an RV inspector charges, within reason, will usually save you money in the long run.

That’s because an RV inspection provides a true picture of the condition of the RV you may be considering. And in many cases, the inspection will reveal issues that you would never have known about otherwise.

And very often, the issues found during an RV inspection will give the buyer bargaining power with the seller. So if a repair is found to be needed, you can either ask the seller to handle it or negotiate for a lower price.

Either way, a quality RV inspection often saves the buyer money in the overall deal.

RV Gear

Clearly then, hiring an RV inspector before you buy an RV is a great idea. But I don’t recommend having them inspect every RV that you may be considering.

If you do, there may be several inspections that are performed before you find the one that is worth buying. And that could get very expensive.

So you only want to hire an RV inspector on the rigs that you are really convinced could be a good candidate for purchase.

Toward that end I recommend that the buyer learns enough about RVs to be able to perform a personal inspection first. This personal inspection isn’t really technical or difficult.

But if you know what to look for, you can spot many serious issues without having an advanced knowledge of RV components.

I explain the whole process of how to perform a personal inspection before the RV inspector is hired in my new ebook. It’s entitled “How To Avoid Buying An RV Money Pit”.

Used RV buying guidebook

The ebook explains how to find a quality RV, how to personally inspect the ones you like, and how to hire the RV inspector.

There’s really nothing that I know of available online that compares with the information in the ebook. And I also make myself personally available to help you with any questions you may have.

And if you aren’t sure about any part of the personal inspection process, I’ll be happy to help.

Get my ebook “How To Avoid Buying An RV Money Pit” by clicking here

I hope that you can now appreciate the value of having a quality inspection before your next RV purchase.

If you get a certified RV inspector to do a thorough job on the prospective RV, it can be helpful in many ways.

Fisrt of all, if there are plenty of hidden problems with the RV, the inspection may help prevent you from buying an RV money pit.

Some RVers have spent many thousands of dollars on repairing problems with uninspected RVs they bought. But a thorough RV inspection helps prevent being surprised by hidden problems after the purchase.

And if issues are found during the inspection, it gives you more bargaining power before the purchase.

Finally, when you buy an RV that has been inspected and found to be worthy of purchase, it puts your mind at ease. You can now have more confidence that the purchase you are making is a good one.

So before you buy your next RV, get it inspected by an NRVIA certified RV inspector. You’ll be glad you did!

4 thoughts on “RV Inspectors – What They Do And How You Can Find Them”

It really helped when you talked about RV inspectors and how they test every part of the vehicle. Recently, my cousin said he’s interested in buying an RV, but he wants to make sure everything’s working as it should. I believe my cousin could benefit from hiring an expert inspector, so I’ll be sure to suggest it! Thanks for the advice on how to make sure your RV’s ready to hit the road!

I’m glad you enjoyed the information Eli. These days I recommend having a certified NRVIA inspector go through not only any used RV you might buy, but even new ones as well. I hope this helps your cousin!

Regarding price: Although your article states inspection costs can vary. You only state the ranges between trailer – motor homes. My concern is the expertise of the individual inspectors. Are they rated ? I would pay for an excellent rating. What is I’m considering an RV at a dealership that is away from my state? Should I still search in my home area or attempt to find one closer to where the RV is located? I would be a solo owner and would need as much confidence as possible. The manufacturer of the RV I’m considering does not provide recommendations. Thank you for you help.

Hi Juliette. It’s very hard to get more specific about RV inspection prices as they actually can vary quite a bit from one inspector to another and from one part of the country to another. And there are no ratings for certified inspectors. I usually suggest that you check for any reviews that may be available on an individual inspector. But I also feel that since all NRVIA certified inspectors have been trained before being certified, the certification itself puts them way ahead of other inspectors that have no certification. If the RV you are considering is located far away from you, choose from the inspectors that are available in that area on the NRVIA website. As I said, any NRVIA certified RV inspector should be able to do a good job for you. It’s true that manufacturers and many dealers will not make any recommendations about getting your RV inspected. Unfortunately, that is not because RV inspections are not useful, but rather, a good RV inspection often finds issues that they would rather not see found, even on new RVs. I hope the information in my response is helpful.

RV Inspections

Why do i need to get an inspection.

The bottom line – how much do you trust the seller/dealership/manufacturer to be honest about the condition of the RV? It doesn’t matter if it is a new RV straight from the manufacturer or a consignment from a dealership or a used RV from a private seller, you can bet that the seller just wants to get rid of it for as much money as they can get.

Since 2019, the demand for RV’s has skyrocketed. New or used, dealerships and manufacturers cannot keep units on their lots. As a result, build quality and accountability has dropped significantly. That’s where RV inspectors come in. As a 3rd party, the RV inspectors job is to simply state the facts and what they observe. What is done with that information is up to the client.

NRVIA Logo

At That Mobile RV Guy, we are a part of the National Recreation Vehicle Inspectors Association (NRVIA), which means we have the training to provide some of the most detailed inspections out there. We also have a Code of Ethics, which all NRVIA Inspectors abide by. So when you hire an NRVIA Inspector, you can rest assured you are getting one of the best inspection reports available.

Inspection Levels

Essential Level

The Essential Inspection is a basic overlook of the RV. We examine the general condition of the roof, sidewalls, end caps, appliances, running gear, inside rooms, furniture, waste/water, electrical, and LP systems, and life safety items (smoke detectors, etc) to make sure there is nothing majorly wrong with them.

Time to Complete – 3 hours

Essential Plus Level

The Essential Plus Inspection includes everything in the Essential Level but we look a little bit closer at the RV, including the outside seals and trim for water leaks, how well do the appliances work on the various sources, rips/tears on furniture, water damage on the walls, ceilings, and things like that.

Time to Complete – 4-5 hours

Premier/NEw RV level

The Premier/New RV Inspection is where we try to give you the best picture of the current state of the RV. This inspection includes everything in the Essential Plus Inspection, but in the most detail. We basically run everything as you would when living in it to determine how the RV functions under heavy use.

Time to Complete – 6-8 hours.

* PREMIER/NEW LEVEL INSPECTIONS ALSO INCLUDE FLUID SAMPLES AND 360 DEGREE PHOTOS. SEE BELOW FOR DETAILS

Fluid samples.

JG lubricant Services is a leading US fluid analysis firm that provides oil and coolant analysis on samples pulled during NRVIA certified RV inspections. Fluid analysis gives you that extra measure of protection you need when you take off in your new investment. It can give you peace of mind and help to ensure against potential “high cost” repairs or equipment failures.

Depending on RV type, fluid analysis allows you to “take a look” inside the engine, transmission, generator and/or cooling systems. It can alert you to early signs of excessive wear, can find such things as fuel or coolant leaking internally into your oil systems or it can find signs of oil leaking into your coolants. If anything serious is going on inside the engine, transmission, generator and/or cooling system, the best way to determine it is through scientific fluid analysis.

So, whether you chose an inspection level that included fluid analysis or you elected to add it on, you can consider yourself among an elite group of savvy buyers who’ve taken advantage of this tremendous opportunity. You’ll get to “peek inside” the RV’s engine, transmission, generator and/or cooling systems.

Premier/New RV Level inspections include 3 fluid samples. To add fluid samples to other inspection levels, let us know BEFORE the inspection date. We can also come out and simply pull fluid samples on your RV.

In order to help you get the best snapshot of the current state of the RV you are looking at purchasing, we offer 360 photos as part of our Premier and New RV inspections. This is especially great for those who are looking at purchasing an RV from another state. You don’t have to worry about any creative photo editing with a 360 photo. You get to see everything.

A 360 photo also helps you get a feel for the space of the RV. Instead of trying to imagine how big the bathroom is from a floorplan, a 360 photo can put you right in the space..

Add 360 Photos To Your Inspection

360 Photos are included in all Premier and New RV Inspections. 360 degree photos can be added to any inspection for an additional fee.

Frequently Asked Questions

Our most frequent questions and answers., the national recreational vehicle inspectors association (nrvia), nrvia’s purpose:.

The NRVIA was established to provide increased awareness of the importance of quality RV inspections and enhance RV inspectors’ professionalism.

The association is governed by the National RV Training Academy (NRVTA) and its staff, who are dedicated to increasing awareness of the need for and availability of quality RV Inspections while increasing the professionalism of both the inspectors and the industry as a whole.

The NRVTA outlines the ethics, training standards, and quality of reporting required to meet the criteria of an NRVIA Certified report. This ensures the end consumer is receiving a quality inspection by a qualified professional.

NRVIA’s Mission:

NRVIA’s mission is to set and promote standards for recreational vehicle inspections and provide the educational programs needed to achieve excellence in the RV Inspection profession.

Their goal is to develop a nationwide network of certified professional RV inspectors across North America that have undergone a strict, standardized testing and certification process to ensure that the end consumer is getting a quality inspection by a true professional.

Private party RV sales account for  more than 1/2 of the 600,000 RVs sold annually!

There are many reasons why people sell their RVs. Lifestyle changes, financial issues, and upgrading/downgrading are some of the more common causes. Like a home inspection, an RV inspection will give you peace of mind that you’ll make an informed buying decision in today’s competitive used RV market.

New RV inspections are just as necessary as used RV inspections. The demand for new RVs and labor shortages have placed tremendous pressure on manufacturers to deliver units to customers. An independent and unbiased 3rd party assessment of the operating condition of a new or used RV you are planning to purchase is highly beneficial. Even if everything is in good working condition, the report will confirm that.

Most importantly, if components are not working, the report lets you, the buyer, know the actual state of the RV before you take possession, possibly reducing the time your RV spends getting warranty work done.

For us to perform a quality RV inspection, you must ensure access to the RV and provide full hook-up services, which includes the following items:

  • Running water
  • Appropriate electrical service (20, 30, 50 AMP)
  • A stable, dry, and level parking area
  • Keys to all inspection areas, including engine if it is a motorized vehicle
  • Sewage hook-up if possible. Some items may not be inspected otherwise
  • Remotes with batteries for onboard entertainment equipment
  • The refrigerator should be running at least 12 hours before inspection if possible.
  • If fluid samples are ordered, please run the vehicle’s engine at least 30 minutes the day before the inspection for circulation purposes.

I would never ask a client to “not” be present at an inspection because you have a vested interest in the vehicle. However, the inspection process is very tedious, in-depth, and typically takes around 4-8 hours to complete. With that in mind, minimizing interruptions will ensure and enhance the quality of the inspection you expect us to perform.

You (the client) will be the only person that will receive a completed inspection report. RV Pro Solutions will not reveal the results of an inspection verbally to any other party without expressed consent from you. Additionally, we will not disclose any inspection findings, test results, or client information without the clients’ approval. However, we are obligated to disclose observed hazards that will impact the occupant’s immediate safety and well-being if uncovered during an inspection.

The inspection report will be delivered via email in Adobe Acrobat (PDF format) within 24 hours of the inspection.

Yes, in addition to our NRVIA Certified Inspections we perform a variety of inspection services to include:

  • Unit Pre Delivery Inspection
  • Life Safety and Department of Transportation (DOT) Equipment Inspection
  • Insurance Inspections
  • Lender and Valuation Inspections
  • FEMA and Disaster Relief Agency Inspections
  • Verification of Work/Repairs

RV Inspections

rv travel trailer inspection near me

Buying an RV is typically the second largest expenditure you’ll make after your home. It makes sense, then, to know exactly what you are buying. An RV Inspection by an NRVIA trained and certified inspector is a critical part of the process. A lot of the most common RV issues are hidden from the casual observer and even seasoned RV owners.  A knowledgeable, certified inspector uses tools and training to uncover the true state of an RV.

A professional inspection from a NRVIA trained and certified inspector not only benefits RV buyers, but it also helps sellers, lenders, and warranty underwriters. Sellers can maximize their sales price and establish buyer confidence. Lenders can verify the condition of the asset they are financing. Underwriters can protect their exposure when offering an extended warranty. RVs are complicated assets that travel on highways, hit potholes, and twist and turn and buckle if they’re being used as intended. A professional inspection ensures peace of mind and helps every party involved in the RV purchase process.

Our comprehensive and multi-faceted RV inspections can cover over 100 points of inspection spanning 14+ categories. A Prime RV Services Inspection Report will consist of 30 to 50 photos describing the items that have been identified during the detailed inspection.

Pre-purchase Professional RV Inspections

"We will be your eyes and ears"

Call or Text 256-605-0706

My wife and I have been RVing for 22 years. Our experience, plus my training, plus our desire to help others is what prompted us to start our business “WE RV SERVICES, LLC”.  We offer pre-purchase and post-purchase Professional RV Inspections , preventative maintenance, and other services. Please CALL or TEXT or EMAIL us if we can help you in any way.   Living to serve, David

Why should you get an RV Inspection?

An RV INSPECTION is very similar to a home inspection, but more. An inspection will make sure your RV is roadworthy, safe, and helps you learn about potential issues in your RV earlier rather than later.

A pre-purchase inspection identifies problems and the dealer can address all issues before you take possession of your RV.

A post-purchase inspection identifies problems after your purchase so that when you take it in for repairs, all the issues can be addressed at the same time. Saves you multiple trips to the service shop.  Also, if you are selling your RV you can share with the buyer that it has been professionally inspected.

Hiring a Professional Certified RV Inspector to do a complete inspection not only ensures that the unit is functional and safe, but saves you time, money, and frustration. Even with new RVs, components get missed or installed improperly at the factory. You don't want to find these issues on your first camping trip when your slide won't retract, or your AC is not cooling properly!

About integrity rv inspections.

RV inspector Chris Reynolds

RV Inspector Chris Reynolds #3141

My name is Chris Reynolds, the owner of Integrity RV Inspections. I love the world of RVing and have turned my passion and eleven years of experience owning towable trailers and motor homes into helping you obtain all the information you need to know the condition of your current RV or the one you want to purchase.

I am an NRVIA Certified RV Inspector and an NRVTA Registered RV Tech. Finding the RV that best suits your needs begins with an RV that is reliable, safe, and will bring you enjoyable and dependable travel.

Helping Buyers & Sellers

A comprehensive inspection of your current or future RV will give you full details and disclosure regarding the condition of the unit at the time of inspection. This information allows you to make an informed decision and/or provides you with a negotiating tool for determining your purchase offer.

If you are a SELLER, I can help you determine if your unit needs immediate repairs that could help improve your ability to obtain the best price for your purchase. A certified inspection can make your RV more marketable and help you get the best price knowing the current condition of your unit.

If you are a PURCHASER, I can help assure you that you have all the best information from an objective third-party inspector for making an informed purchase decision. A professional inspection will focus on safety issues to help ensure you have the assurance that you can sleep easy after a day of travel or just help make you aware of future needed repairs and minimize unexpected surprises.

Do not overpay or buy a unit that brings heartache instead of the fun that you are expecting with one of the largest purchases of a lifetime!

Moore RV Inspections

Randy Moore

Nrvia certified rv inspector in allen, tx..

I was born and raised in Corpus Christi, TX. After high school, I moved to Dallas, TX to attend a technical school that offered courses in computer programming and computer operations. Following graduation, I landed my first professional job working for Electronic Data Systems ( EDS ). The eight years at EDS and my previous technical training helped me become very detail oriented and have the ability to explain technical issues to our customers in laymen terms. This IT career continued for five years at Peer Services, Inc. and then another Twenty Eight and a half years working at Hitachi Data Systems in the Dallas area.

Following a layoff in 2017, I started working for LegalShield. LegalShield offers a Pre-Paid Legal Plan and IDShield Plans that Monitor and Restore your Identity should it be stolen.

I have been married to my wife Liz for 37 years. Our two children ( Greg and Kathryn ) are adults and married to their sweethearts. They live fairly close to us. Greg and his wife Lizbeth and our grandson ( Seth ) live in Grand Prairie, TX. Kathryn and her husband Joe live in Edmond, OK with our granddog ( Onyx ).

About four years ago, Liz and I started going to RV shows to see all of the latest models. We finally decided to invest in a Travel Trailer in 2021. We purchased a 2021 LANCE 2075 in April 2021. This also meant an investment in a truck to pull it. That choice was a 2021 Ford F-250 with the 7.3L Gas engine. Now, we are Part-Time RVers. Yes, we had one minor issue on our New travel trailer that would have been identified with a Premier RV Inspection prior to purchase. This required taking the travel trailer back to the dealership for a service technician to repair. It was repaired while we waited. RV’s are expensive and having an Independent ( third party ) Inspector document all the visible and operational issues will help potential buyers make better decisions. Let’s get out on the road and have Fun with our RV’s.

Why choose us

Liz and I are RV owners, and we are part-time RVer's. We purchased a 2021 LANCE 2075 travel trailer in April 2021. I understand travel trailer towing, setting up, tearing down, operating the different components and appliances as well as ongoing maintenance for our travel trailer. I attended the premier schools in the U.S. to learn more about the different RV systems ( Propane, 12V, 120V, Convertors and Inverters ) and to become a Certified RV Inspector. These schools are located in Athens, TX:

RV Inspector Professional Reviews

See what our customers have to say about using RV Inspector Professional! (Hint: hover over a testimonial to stop the rotation and have more time to read!)

Chris-Abbott

I’ve recently converted from another competing software product to RV Inspector Professional after it was recommended to me by a peer whom I respect a great deal. He and I met when going through the NRVIA Level 2 Inspectors Training Class and were lamenting over the lack of Apple/IOS support in the inspection software market. A few months after our training, he found RV Inspector Professional and shared with me how great it was once he demoed the product and how much time it saved him. So I had to try it for myself…..and am very glad I did.

I love the ease of use, functionality, flexibility, support and portability of the product. On top of it all, I now don’t have to maintain a separate Windows computer just to support my inspection software needs. Long term, it will not only be a time saver, but will be a money saver. The one-time fee, plus the small annual maintenance will put money back in my pocket in less than a year. And while I originally sought out an Apple/IOS solution, RV Inspector Professional is platform agnostic and will operate on Google and Windows equipment alike.

Simplicity, ease of use and functionality are exceptional. It’s easily possible to create and send the final report to clients even before leaving the location where the inspection is being performed. That’s a phenomenal improvement over the prior software I used which typically took 3-5 hours to complete the report later that evening.

Support and changes to the software are made through recommendations and suggestions by the user base going through a Standards Committee. Control is not maintained by a single individual, so the needs of the user base are met with changes being tested and approved before distribution. Changes are made on a timely basis, so we don’t have to wait for months to make improvements to the product or to keep up with changes in the RV industry.

Ed-Tworek-RV-Guy-Mobile-RV-Service

I’ve been a user of RV Inspector Professional™ for several months now and love it!

RV Inspector Professional™ is perhaps the most intuitive software that I have seen for inspectors. My previous method of performing inspections was using check sheets and a digital camera.

RV Inspector Professional™ saves me tons of time! I use the check boxes to record my points of inspection and the drop-down lists make everything so easy. The ability to take a photo and have it immediately in the correct location saves me hours of report prep when I get back to the office, no need to import the photos from the camera and then drop them in and format them in my report. RV Inspector Professional™ even lets me annotate and draw on the photos – right on site! I can draw a circle or an arrow in any number of colors. My customers love it!

The best part is that I can email the .pdf RV inspection report to my customer almost immediately after completion of the inspection.

The templates are constantly being revised and updated to meet our needs based on our input. The cost is affordable with a minimal monthly charge for the base App. I could not be happier!

Marco-Massei

Prior to RV Inspector Professional™ I spent as much as 5-6 hours sorting pictures and creating the inspection report.

Now as soon as I am done with the inspection I can email the report to the client immediately from my IPad.

This software has basically cut my time on an inspection in half!  I can effortlessly add more pictures to the report which the client loves, as well as store anymore I don’t use on the tablet.

RV Inspector Professional™ is a major time saver and is simple to use. I love it!

Charles-Pickel

I can say, I have used other programs that are not as easy to use as RV Inspector Professional™.

It is very easy to use and quick to get a report ready for the customer.

Other programs I have used, I had to spend hours after an inspection getting the report ready for the customer

Now I spend minutes getting the report ready and delivered.

Lew-King

I used RV Inspector Professional™ to inspect a large Class A top-of-the-line motorhome manufactured about 10-12 years ago, which turned out to have a lot of issues.  I used an Apple iPad Air 2 tablet to do a successful inspection that produced a professionally detailed PDF report which I emailed to my client.

Remember the dream that all of us RV Inspector trainees had at the beginning: to use a tablet to photograph and take notes on as we performed the inspection?  The dream has come true – the RV Inspector Professional™ worked great for those two main tasks.

I had no problems with my inspection plan – I just followed the software as it led me through all the inspection sections just like I used to do previously with the RVIC and then NRVIA Scope Sheets.  Changing sections back and forth as needed was easy to do.

RV Inspector Professional™ can be modified by the individual inspector.  That means that you can omit sections not used by you or not installed in the RV being inspected by simply not pressing the blue “+ Add” tab.  Items not “added” will not show up on the report as empty fields, which I really like.

The RV Inspector Professional™ software will work on iPad, iPhone, and Android tablet or phone.  The software has already been updated to the 2.0 version and will continue to be honed and fine-tuned by the creators.  I am excited to have it as my chief inspection method from now on.

It is very worthy of your consideration as an alternative to the paper, pen, and clipboard method.

Don-Baker-RV-Inspector

I used to drive to the RV inspection, spend 5 hours performing the actual RV inspection using the paper checklist I created using Microsoft Publisher along with my digital camera, then return to my home office.

There I would spend another 5 to 6 hours loading pictures from my camera while I typed the data from my printed forms to the digital form on my computer, and merge the pictures to my report. After a combined 15 hours I sent the report to my client by email.

Now I drive to the inspection site, spend 5 hours doing the RV inspection using RV Inspector Professional™ and I send the report to the client at inspection completion!  RV Inspector Professional™ has reduced my RV Inspection and report delivery time by a minimum eight (8) hours and has made my RV inspection business FUN!

An RV inspection is an objective evaluation of an RV's condition and components by a qualified third party.
