This tweak upgrades Safari’s download manager with media importing & more

When Apple released iOS & iPadOS 13 last Summer, one of the exciting new features that the company added to the iPhone and iPad experience for the very first time was a built-in download manager for the native Safari web browser. As necessary as this was to make Apple’s platforms both usable and competitive with the rest of the mobile device market, it still left quite a bit to be desired — par for the course when it comes to Apple.

Jailbreakers have significantly more options to choose from when it comes to augmenting this user experience, and with the help of a recently-updated jailbreak tweak dubbed Safari Downloader+ by iOS developer Jalal Ouraigua , jailbreakers can both expect more and get it, especially in terms of the Safari file-downloading experience. The all-new version 5.0 of the Safari Downloader+ adds full support for iOS & iPadOS 13 for the first time.

So why would users need Safari Downloader+ following the release of iOS 13? The simple answer is that this tweak incorporates a plethora of handy utilities to make downloading certain things from different websites easier.

For starters, Safari Downloader+ includes handy buttons to aid with downloading media from popular video hosting websites including Dailymotion, Facebook , Instagram, Vimeo, and YouTube to name a few. Then, after downloading said media, users will then be able to easily import it to their media library for offline viewing whenever they want.

As depicted in the screenshot examples above and below, Safari Downloader+ bakes itself directly into the Safari web browser user interface. It appears as a download button just to the left of the tabs button, and by tapping on it, users can interface with all their previous downloads and configure the Safari Downloader+ tweak however they want to suit their use case.

You’ll also notice that the media downloading and importing options are simplistic and easy to follow. Upon using the tweak on a supported media-hosting website, you can choose the download quality, where it gets saved, and then monitor download progress via the built-in download manager interface. Once finished, you can use powerful tools to fetch metadata and then incorporate those downloads into your native media library via any app of your choosing.

As for configuration, Safari Downloader+ comes with plenty:

• Enable or disable the “show welcome slides” option
• Enable or disable vibration upon completed download
• Enable or disable notifications upon completed download
• Enable or disable two-finger swipe to dismiss

• Configure the maximum number of allowed concurrent imports

In short, while iOS 13’s native Safari download manager lets you download files that were meant to be downloaded, it tends to be somewhat limited when compared with Safari Downloader+’s built-in media downloading capabilities for third-party websites. Furthermore, iOS 13’s native Safari download manager doesn’t come with the same powerful media importing capabilities that Safari Downloader+ does, which means the tweak brings a lot more to the table then a stock iOS 13 device would.

Keeping safari updated, how to update safari in system preferences.

It's a good practice to keep your web browser constantly updated for security reasons , but Apple Safari on Mac doesn't have an update button. Here's how to keep Safari updated.

Every year, Apple releases new features for Safari, and you usually install them without realizing it because they're linked to macOS updates that you get in System Preferences.

But because Safari is a browser, Apple often lets you update to the latest version of Safari without installing the next big OS release. For example, while Safari 14.0 came bundled in macOS Big Sur , macOS Catalina users can still update to it. Apple also provides regular security updates to older versions of Safari, which is the main reason why  we recommend that you keep it updated .

To update Safari, you'll have to use the Software Update feature in System Preferences. To get there, click the Apple icon in the top-left corner of the screen.

In the menu that appears, choose the "System Preferences" option.

In System Preferences, click "Software Update."

The Software Update panel will show you whether there are any software updates available for your Mac. If there are, you have two choices.

If you want to install the latest operating system along with the latest version of Safari, just click the "Update Now" button and follow the process.

If you only want to install an update to Safari, click "More Info" under the list of available updates to see a detailed list of all updates.

After clicking "More info," a panel will appear listing the updates available for your Mac. Make sure that the "Safari" update is selected, and uncheck "macOS" if you don't want to install a system update along with it. When you're ready, click "Install Now."

After a while, the Safari update will be installed on your Mac.

Once the update process is finished, you can safely quit the System Preferences app using the red Close button in the corner of the window.

Since this process is somewhat confusing and non-obvious, we recommend enabling the auto-update feature to keep Safari and your Mac updated. Good luck!

Apple Seeds Fourth Betas of iOS 16 and iPadOS 16 to Developers

Apple today seeded the fourth betas of upcoming iOS 16 and iPadOS 16 updates to developers for testing purposes, with the updates coming three weeks after Apple released the third developer betas .

iOS 16 introduces a revamped Lock Screen that offers a new level of personalization and customization through widgets, a notification redesign, and adjustable fonts and colors for the time. Multiple Lock Screens are supported, similar to watch faces, and can be associated with Focus modes.

Focus is easier to set up than before and more customizable, with Focus filters available to cut out distracting content within apps. The Messages app now features tools for editing a iMessage, unsending an iMessage, and marking messages as unread, plus it supports SharePlay, much like FaceTime .

The Mail app has improved search and tools that include undo send, schedule send, and follow up so you can get a reminder to check up on an email if you haven't gotten a response. Safari supports Shared Tab Groups and Apple is working to replace passwords with Passkeys, a more biometrically secure way to log in to accounts.

iCloud Photo Library allows users to more easily share photos with family members, and Live Text is supported in video. There's a neat new feature for lifting the subject from a background with a tap, which is part of Visual Lookup.

Dictation has improved, Maps now supports multi-stop routing, Apple Pay Later lets you split up purchase payments, and the Home app has been entirely overhauled with a new look. On the iPad , the update adds a new Stage Manager feature for more Mac-like multitasking, but it's limited to M1 iPads.

TuneIn Is Now Blocking Thousands of UK Radios Due to Infringements

• TuneIn is now imposing geo-restrictions and will keep them up until a decisive ruling comes on its appeal.
• A London court has previously decided that the internet radio platform must comply with copyright licensing restrictions.
• The platform wants to avoid having to pay millions to Sony and Warner Music for not complying.

Last year, the British High Court of Justice in London ruled that TuneIn was facilitating copyright infringement on its platform by allowing access to radio station feeds without considering geolocation-related license restrictions .

The plaintiffs in this legal action were Warner Music UK Ltd. and Sony Music Entertainment UK Ltd., who felt that their rights were violated by the popular internet radio platform. That decision was appealed, but until a final ruling comes out, TuneIn decided to play a safe game and avoid having to pay any hefty damage compensations to the music labels.

For this reason, they have started imposing regional restrictions recently, so users are suddenly finding themselves locked out from accessing their favorite radio stations. The response of TuneIn Support on Twitter to any complaints around this leave no doubt that the action is the direct result of the recent court ruling.

The number of blocked stations hasn’t been announced, and it may fluctuate every day depending on the detection methods and rates, but it is estimated to be on the thousands. Of course, users, and especially those who pay for a premium subscription on TuneIn are simply circumventing these restrictions by using VPN tools, which is a simple solution that doesn’t place TuneIn in any legal trouble.

And according to reports that came from TorrentFreak , this isn’t even the only way to access blocked radio stations right now. Reportedly, there are other websites transmitting the radio feeds on the internet, covering the gap that was created by targeting Tune In. In many cases, the radio stations operate their own websites so they can be streamed live by anyone in the world without any restrictions whatsoever. Essentially, it is like the court has removed these stations from TuneIn’s catalog, and that’s the end of the measures taken against this particular case of copyright infringement.

Surely this doesn’t make much sense, but considering the popularity of the TuneIn platform, restricting access to radio stations only from within it keeps the plaintiffs satisfied. This is what the online radio station stated in regards to the recent developments:

“TuneIn is the best platform for broadcasters, and we continue to work with both the broadcast community and users to deliver a world-class listening experience. TuneIn is under judicial order to cease communicating to the public in the UK any sound recordings owned or controlled by Sony and Warner.

Over the past several months, we have worked with broadcasters to confirm their licensing status, removing from our platform those radio stations whose licensing status we are unable to verify at this time. However, stations licensed in the UK can still be made available through the TuneIn service to TuneIn’s UK users.”
