Tourist Police in Istanbul

In 2017, the Tourist Police appeared in Istanbul – a special detachment that guards tourists and prevents possible crimes aimed at tourists.

The Istanbul Tourist Police is based at three airports, train stations, near the Blue Mosque and near the city’s main attractions, that is, in places most popular with foreigners. Tourists can turn to officers of the tourist police in any case of violation of their rights, deception in shops and taxi , as well as misunderstandings in hotels.

Law enforcement officers from the tourist unit are easily distinguishable from ordinary police officers thanks to their special uniform – the black and orange vests of their uniforms are clearly visible in the crowd, so they can be easily found if necessary. Law enforcement officers move around Istanbul by cars, electric cars, bicycles and segways, and foot patrols are also provided.

The police officers are fluent in several foreign languages, including English and Russian, so they will be able to provide all the necessary assistance to travelers who have language problems. You can also contact the tourist police officers through the official patrol accounts on social networks and in the multilingual call center.

It is expected that in the future, similar units of the tourist police will be created in every major city in Turkey and in all resorts of the country.

Thailand Tourist Police launches ‘I Lert U’ mobile app for 24-hour assistance

The app is linked to the tourist police 1155 emergency response centre..

Bangkok, 8 July, 2022 – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) would like to inform tourists they can download the ‘Tourist Police I Lert U’ mobile application, to enjoy peace of mind throughout their travels in Thailand.

Downloadable for free at Google Play for Android phones and App Store for iOS phones, the I Lert U application is available in English and Thai. The app is linked to the Tourist Police 1155 Emergency Response Centre, where there are also interpreters and translators ready to provide tourist assistance in other languages.

Tourists requiring help at any time 24 hours around the clock can use the application to contact the Tourist Police, who will dispatch officers to the scene immediately. Tourists can also take a photo of an incident and upload via the app to require assistance.

The Tourist Police is a division of the Royal Thai Police, and is dedicated to the safety and well-being of tourists in Thailand. With over 1,900 officers, the Tourist Police operates throughout the kingdom, including in all the major tourist destinations like Bangkok, Phuket, Samui, and Chiang Mai.

The Royal Thai Government places the highest priority on the safety and well-being of every visitor to Thailand. And as the main government agency responsible for the promotion and marketing of Thailand as a preferred destination, TAT is working closely with all the concerned public and private organisations to ensure the utmost efforts to prevent any unfortunate incidents occurring on tourists and the local Thai people.

Historical Development

Tourist Police Nepal was established in 26th January 1979 AD as a special unit of Nepal Police working under Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Department of Tourism. Tourist Police today has the strength of 239 Officers working under the Supervision of Deputy Superintendent of Police and has 28 units spread throughout the country including 10 units inside the Kathmandu valley and 18 units outside the valley in 12 different districts. The Central Office is located inside the premises of Tourist Service Centre, Bhrikutimandap Kathmandu, Nepal. Since its inception, the tourist police has been actively facilitating tourists and delivering security services.Tourist Police is motivated by appreciations and receiving ample encouraging feedbacks by concerned agencies and tourists on service delivery. Tourist police is skilled to extend better and efficient services to the tourists with its motto- “Tourist police for tourists’ safety”.

Our Activities are:-

• To register complaints, conduct preliminary investigation and recommend immediate action in order to assist in recovery of lost goods and documents of the tourists and provide Police Report in case of lost documents.

Ten-year-old boy charged over alleged sexual assault of Italian woman travelling in Cairns

A 10-year-old boy accused of sexually assaulting an Italian tourist on the streets of Cairns has been released from custody after being dealt with under the youth justice act.

Queensland police will allege the Manoora boy assaulted the tourist on the corner of Lake Street and Shields Street about 10am on Wednesday.

Detective Inspector Kevin Goan said the international tourist was "going about her business" when she walked past the 10-year-old male child and was allegedly sexually assaulted.

"The lady has called for police assistance and at that time she was set upon by a number of other juveniles," he said.

"She has sustained minor bruising and scratches to her head and face.

"No doubt a traumatic experience for the young lady."

He said "within minutes" the alleged perpetrator was arrested.

"That is a result of the work that is done by uniformed police in conjunction with the CitySafe camera operators who were able to trace the movements," he said.

The 10-year-old boy was dealt with through the process of restorative justice, which means he won't need to go to court.

One of his female associates was also apprehended but has also been engaged with restorative justice and released.

Detective Inspector Goan said police were still searching for another three youths believed to be involved in the attack.

"There are a couple of other young people we would like to speak to, their identities are known to the Child Protection Unit," he said.

Young age a concern

The incident was a surprise to some Cairns residents but not to others.

Cairns City Tattoos owner Duane Cash said there was an incident every day.

"The police are working non-stop," he said.

"We see people get knives pulled on them, bashed, slapped, robbed."

Kewarra Beach resident Jeffrey King Koi said it came down to preventing youth crime before it began.

"There's just got to be programs in place for the youth," he said.

Detective Inspector Goan said the young age of the offenders was a concern.

"It's not very common at all, I can't think of another instance where a young boy has committed this type of offence," he said. 

In a statement Queensland Police Service said the 10-year-old boy was charged with one count of sexual assault, common assault and assault occasioning bodily harm whilst in company. 

The police investigation into the alleged incident is ongoing.

Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi Police General Command has introduced the “Club Car,” a new fleet of “Tourist Police” patrols now operating in various tourist sites across the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

These patrols will prominently display the Abu Dhabi Police logo along with the tourist police logo. The inauguration ceremony marked the commencement of their operations, emphasising their role in delivering services to the public, visitors, and tourists in designated tourist areas.

Security vision

General Muhammad Sohail Al-Rashdi, Director of Criminal Security Sector, stressed that the inauguration of the patrols is in line with the vision of the Abu Dhabi Police strategic plan to enable Abu Dhabi to become a global leader in maintaining security and security, reinforcing its distinctive efforts in serving tourists and visitors in the emirate.

The force responds to security, safety and crime prevention reports with utmost professionalism to enhance the safety and safety of the community.

He drew attention to the continued interest in providing new preventive services that keep up with governmental and future trends in the Emirate, and in line with the directions of the police leadership in accordance with the strategy of Abu Dhabi Police in bringing haappiness to the community, by contributing to the best services to tourists, maintaining their safety and the security of facilities and tourist sites in the emirate.

Multi-lingual campaign

General Rashed Khalaf Al-Dahiri, Director of the Criminal Investigations and Investigations Directorate of the Criminal Security Sector, clarified that the new tourist police patrols have been distributed with their cadres to perform their role in providing distinctive security and awareness services, as well as distributing awareness booklets in several international languages to tourists that include advice and guidelines on the most important laws and regulations implemented in the Emirates.

Introducing them to the tourist places, how to move by taxis and driving conditions of vehicles, and ways to contact emergency numbers to ask for help when needed.

3 bodies in Mexican well identified as Australian and American surfers killed for truck’s tires

Relatives have identified three bodies found in a well as those of two Australian surfers and one American who went missing last weekend, Mexican authorities said Sunday. Baja California state prosecutors said the relatives had viewed the bodies recovered from a remote well about 50 feet (15 meters) deep and recognized them as their loved ones.

MEXICO CITY (AP) — Relatives have identified three bodies found in a well as those of two Australian surfers and one American who went missing last weekend, Mexican authorities said Sunday.

Baja California state prosecutors said the relatives had viewed the corpses recovered from a remote well about 50 feet (15 meters) deep and recognized them as their loved ones.

Thieves apparently killed the three, who were on a surfing trip to Mexico’s Baja peninsula, to steal their truck because they wanted the tires. They then allegedly got rid of the bodies by dumping them in a well near the coast.

The well was located some 4 miles (6 kilometers) from where the foreigners were killed, and also contained a fourth cadaver that had been there much longer.

Three suspects are being held in connection with the case, which locals said was solved far more quickly than the disappearances of thousands of Mexicans.

The three men were on a camping and surfing trip along a stretch of coast south of the city of Ensenada, posting idyllic photos on social media of waves and isolated beaches, before they went missing last weekend.

Chief state prosecutor María Elena Andrade Ramírez described what likely would have been moments of terror that ended the trip for brothers Jake and Callum Robinson from Australia and American Jack Carter Rhoad.

She theorized the killers drove by and saw the foreigners’ pickup truck and tents and wanted to steal their tires. But “when (the foreigners) came up and caught them, surely, they resisted.”

She said that’s when the killers would have shot the tourists.

The thieves then allegedly went to what she called “a site that is extremely hard to get to” and allegedly dumped the bodies into a well they apparently were familiar with. She said investigators were not ruling out the possibility the same suspects also dumped the first, earlier body in the well as part of previous crimes.

“They may have been looking for trucks in this area,” Andrade Ramírez said.

The thieves allegedly covered the well with boards. “It was literally almost impossible to find it,” Andrade Ramírez said, and it took two hours to winch the bodies out of the well.

Australian Treasurer Jim Chalmers expressed sympathy for the Robinson family. “I think the whole country’s heart goes out to all of their loved ones. It has been an absolutely horrendous, absolutely horrific ordeal and our thoughts are with all of them today,” he said at a news conference Monday in the capital, Canberra.

The site where the bodies were discovered near the township of Santo Tomás was near the remote seaside area where the missing men’s tents and truck were found Thursday along the coast. From their last photo posts, the trip looked perfect. But even experienced local expatriates are questioning whether it is safe to camp along the largely deserted coast anymore.

The moderator of the local Talk Baja internet forum, who has lived in the area for almost two decades, wrote in an editorial Saturday that “the reality is, the dangers of traveling to and camping in remote areas are outweighing the benefits anymore.”

But in a way, adventure was key to the victims’ lifestyle.

Callum Robinson’s Instagram account contained the following slogan: “If you’re not living on the edge, you’re taking up too much room.”

At the news conference, Andrade Ramírez was questioned by one reporter who expressed approval that such a massive and rapid search was mounted for the foreigners, but asked why, when local people disappear in the area, little is often done for weeks, months, or years.

“Do you have to be a foreigner in Baja California in order for there to be an investigation if something happens to you?′ asked the reporter, who did not identify herself by name. ”Every investigation is different,” Andrade Ramírez replied.

As if to underscore that point, dozens of mourners, surfers and demonstrators gathered in a main plaza in Ensenada, the nearest city, to voice their anger and sadness at the deaths.

“Ensenada is a mass grave,” read one placard carried by protesters. “Australia, we are with you,” one man scrawled on one of the half-dozen surf boards at the demonstration.

A woman held up a sign that read “They only wanted to surf — we demand safe beaches.”

Gabriela Acosta, a surfer, attended the protest “to show love, solidarity and respect for the three lives that were lost.” Acosta said that surfers in Baja are aware of the dangers.

“We are women and we would sometimes like to surf alone,” Acosta said. “But we never do that, because of the situation. We always have to go accompanied.”

“I think that what happened to them is just an example of the lack of safety in this state,” she said.

Surfers later performed a “paddle-out” ceremony where they formed a circle on their boards in the ocean.

Baja California prosecutors had said they were questioning three people in the killings, two of them because they were caught with methamphetamines. Prosecutors said the two were being held pending drug charges but continue to be suspects in the killings.

A third man was arrested on charges of a crime equivalent to kidnapping, but that was before the bodies were found. It was unclear if he might face more charges.

The third suspect was believed to have directly participated in the killings. In keeping with Mexican law, prosecutors identified him by his first name, Jesús Gerardo, alias “el Kekas,” a slang word that means “quesadillas,” or cheese tortillas. Andrade Ramírez said he had a criminal record, and that more people may have been involved.

Last week, the mother of the missing Australians, Debra Robinson, posted on a local community Facebook page, appealing for help in finding her sons. Robinson said Callum and Jake had not been heard from since April 27. They had booked accommodation in the city of Rosarito, not far from Ensenada.

Robinson said Callum was diabetic. She also mentioned that the American who was with them was named Jack Carter Rhoad, but the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City did not immediately confirm that. The U.S. State Department said it was aware of reports of a U.S. citizen missing in Baja, but gave no further details.

In 2015, two Australian surfers , Adam Coleman and Dean Lucas, were killed in western Sinaloa state, across the Gulf of California — also known as the Sea of Cortez — from the Baja peninsula. Authorities said they were victims of highway bandits. Three suspects were arrested in that case.

President Biden consoles families of law-enforcement officers gunned down in Charlotte

CHARLOTTE – President Joe Biden reprised his familiar role as consoler-in-chief on Thursday as he met privately with the families of four police officers killed in a shooting earlier this week in North Carolina.

Biden was already scheduled to travel to Wilmington, North Carolina, to deliver a speech on rebuilding infrastructure and creating good-paying jobs. The White House added a stop to Charlotte to his itinerary.

Biden met with family members at the North Carolina Air National Guard base, situated at the Charlotte Douglas International Airport, where Biden stopped for more than two hours during his North Carolina swing. It was not immediately clear how long Biden met with the families.

The four officers were killed Monday when a gunman with a high-powered rifle opened fire on them from the second floor of a residence while a task force made up of officers from several agencies was attempting to serve a felony warrant in Charlotte. Multiple officers were hit, and the other task force members called in reinforcements.

As local police arrived and began to rescue the downed task force members, more gunfire came from the house and additional officers were struck, police said.

Killed were Sam Poloche, 42, and Alden Elliot, 46, both with the state's Department of Adult Correction; Deputy U.S. Marshal Thomas M. Weeks Jr., 48, of Mooresville, North Carolina; and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Officer Joshua Eyer, 31.

Four other officers were wounded in the attack.

The gunman, identified as 39-year-old Terry Clark Hughes Jr., exited the house with a firearm and was shot by police. He was pronounced dead on the front lawn.

In a statement on Monday, Biden described the fallen officers as “heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice, rushing into harm’s way to protect us.” The death of a police officer is “like losing a piece of your soul,” he said.

Biden's meeting with the families of the slain officers in Charlotte also included officers wounded in the shooting, along with other law enforcement officers and elected officials.

Biden has been forced to take on the role of consoler-in-chief multiple times during his presidency, comforting the families of hurricanes, tornados and other natural disasters, along with the victims of mass shootings in cities ranging from Buffalo to Las Vegas and Uvalde, Texas to Lewiston, Maine .

Trek has launched its 'TrekFest' sale, and not to be outdone by its North-American rivals Specialized, who also have a Spring Sale on, TrekFest has some mega-discounts. There are site-wide price-cuts on a wide selection of mountain bikes like its best budget hardtail – the Trek Marlin and some of its highly rated e-MTB models like the Trek Fuel EXe. There are also deals from Trek's in-house brand Bontrager, which manufactures MTB helmets , shoes, and lots more...

I've had a hunt around both the Trek US and Trek UK sites and picked out the best deals on offer and added what I think are some of highlights below. The discounts are currently live but end soon. So I'd suggest if something catches your eye, don't hang around, because they are bound to be snapped up quickly.

Marlin 8 Gen 2: Was $1,329.99, now $999 Trek says the Marlin is its most popular budget hardtail mountain bike. This aluminum framed Gen 2 version has a $330 discount with a build that features a RockShox Judy Silver fork, a SRAM SX Eagle 12-spd drivetrain and Shimano hydraulic disc brakes. The Bontrager Kovee wheels are tubeless ready and they roll on Maxxis Ardent Race rubber.

Available in two color choices, sized from XXS-XL.

Fuel EXe 9.9 XTR: Was $12,999 , now $11,999 The Fuel EXe 9.9 XTR is one of Trek's best electric mountain bikes . Built around its OCLV Mountain Carbon frame, the Fuel has a 360Wh battery that powers a TQ motor which puts out 50Nm of torque and 250 watts of maximum continuous power.

You also get 150mm of RockShox Lyrik Ultimate fork travel paired with 140mm of RockShox Super Deluxe Ultimate rear suspension. A Shimano XTR drivetrain, Bontrager carbon wheels and a Bontrager dropper post make up a very nicely specced e-MTB that currently has a $1,000 discount.

Four colors and all sizes are available S-XL.

Rail 9.8 XT Gen 4: Was $8,999, now $7,999 Another discounted electric mountain bike from the Trek line-up is the Trek Rail 9.8 . The brand's long-travel carbon framed enduro e-MTB comes with the Bosch Performance Line CX motor , a long-range 750Wh battery and 85Nm of trail-shredding power.

Adding to the Rail's spec highlights is a 170mm RockShox ZEB Select+ fork , and RockShox Super Deluxe Ultimate shock with a Shimano XT 1x12 drivetrain. Four colors and all the sizing are available plus a tasty $1,000 discount.

Top Fuel 9.8 XT: Was $7,049, now $5,899 Trek's Top Fuel is one of the best cross-country mountain bikes on the market. Lightweight, carbon-framed and has another brilliant line-up of components that make it a bit of a bargain with its current $1,150 discount.

The Top Fuel has a 120mm RockShox SID Select+ fork , 120mm of rear travel with a RockShox SID Luxe Ultimate shock , and a Shimano XT drivetrain. Bontrager Line Elite 30 carbon wheels and a Bontrager Line Elite Dropper complete the spec.

Roscoe 8: Was $2,399, now $1,999 The Trek Roscoe 8 is another entry-level hardtail with a specification ready for some serious cross-country riding. This Roscoe build features a lightweight aluminum frame, a 140mm RockShox 35 Gold fork , a SRAM NX Eagle drivetrain, 4-piston brakes, and a dropper post. 

A $400 discount and sizes XS-XL are available in two size color options.

Slash 9.9 XX1 Gen 5: Was $12,549, now $9,999 Trek say the Slash 9.9 is its best enduro mountain bike in the range. It's also the go-to bike for the Trek Factory Racing Enduro team. This model has a $2,500 discount and you get a bike ready for anything. 

A full carbon frame, hard-hitting suspension with RockShox Flight Attendant , Bontrager carbon wheels, and a SRAM XX1 Eagle drivetrain make this top-of-the-line ride a very attractive buy with the current discount. Available in all sizes and the very stealthy-looking Lithium Gray colorway.

Marlin 8 Gen 3: Was £1,025, now £825 The Trek Marlin Gen 3 is the latest model of its popular budget hardtail mountain bike. The Gen 3 has an updated geometry, and the alloy frame features a RockShox Judy Silver fork, a SRAM SX Eagle 12-spd drivetrain and Shimano hydraulic disc brakes. Roscoe 8: Was £1,675, now £1,394 The Trek Roscoe 8 is another entry-level hardtail with a specification ready for XC riding. This Roscoe build features an aluminum frame, a 140mm RockShox 35 Gold fork , a SRAM NX Eagle drivetrain, 4-piston brakes, and a dropper post. 

A £280 discount and sizes XS-XL are available in two size color options.

Slash 9.8 XT Gen 5: Was £6,000, now £4,500 Trek say the Slash 9.8 is one of its best enduro bike models coming with the brand's OCLV Mountain Carbon frame. It features a massive 160mm of travel from the highly-rated RockShox Super Deluxe Ultimate shock , paired with a RockShox ZEB Select+ fork and 170mm of travel. 

Only available Lithium Gray colorway and sizes M-XL.

Bontrager Foray MTB Shoes: US: Were $159, now $111 UK: Were £159, now £111 Trek says the Foray shoe is a versatile MTB shoe ready for trail riding and even cyclocross. Its versatility makes it one of the best gravel shoes too.

Foray has a Boa L6 dial for a customizable fit, a stiff sole and a durable upper featuring the added protection of GnarGuard – a rubberised coating that protects against abrasions and other damage. Four color choices and a ton of sizing are available.

Trek Line Elite Pedals: US: Were $119, now $94 UK: Were £109, now £76 The Trek Line Elite are SPD-compatible clipless MTB pedals . Dual-sided and made from forged aluminum, which they say makes them durable and lightweight. They have an easy clipping-in platform and a stylish aesthetic look to back up the performance features.

Bontrager Line 31.6 Dropper Post: Was £199, now £139 The Bontrager Line 31.6 dropper post has everything needed to contend as one of the best dropper posts around. It has internal cable routing and should provide reliable and infinite adjustability. This discounted version comes with 170mm of travel and allows fine-tuning with easy-fit 10mm or 30mm travel-reducer spacers.

Bontrager Flatline Shoes: Were $139, now $99 Were £139, now £97 The best flat mountain bike shoes should deliver plenty of grip to keep you connected to the pedals. The Bontrager Flatline tick the boxes here and comes with a grippy Vibram outsole, that partners up with a reinforced toe box for protection and durability.

They also offer a more relaxed fit for comfort on the bike but plenty of support making them a highly practical trail MTB shoe. Five color and plenty of sizes are available.

2 killed, 4 injured in nightclub shooting, police say

ATLANTA ( WANF /Gray News) - Two people were killed and four others were injured in a shooting at a nightclub in Atlanta early Sunday, according to police.

Police said they responded to a call about a person shot at the Elleven45 Lounge at 2110 Peachtree Road NW around 2:30 a.m. When officers arrived, they reportedly found six people shot.

According to police, two victims, a man and a woman, died on the scene. Four others – two men and two women – were taken to area hospitals in stable condition and are expected to survive.

Police said based on preliminary information, it appears all the victims were club patrons between 20 and 30 years old.

They said there was a dispute inside the club, leading to a physical altercation that erupted into gunfire.

Police said it appears there was one shooter. No arrests have been announced.

There is no description of the suspected shooter yet. Police said they’re reviewing surveillance video from inside the club for leads. They also plan on interviewing the surviving victims along with other witnesses.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
