Tata Motors launched the 2023 Safari in India earlier this week, alongside the Dark Edition range that included the Harrier , Safari, and Nexon . Prices of the updated SUV start at Rs 15.65 lakh (ex-showroom).

2023 Tata Safari engine and specifications

The refreshed Safari is powered by a 2.0-litre Kryotec diesel engine paired with six-speed manual and automatic units. This motor, which now complies with the RDE and BS6 2.0 emission norms, develops 168bhp and 350Nm of torque.

2023 Tata Safari colours and variants

The 2023 Tata Safari is available in five colours, including Orcus White, Daytona Grey, Royale Blue, Orcus White Adventure Persona, and Tropical Mist Adventure Persona. Also up for offer will be the Adventure, Dark, and Red Dark editions. Customers can choose from seven variants including XE, XM , XMS, XT+, XZ, XZ+, and XZA+(O). With all the seats up, the new Safari offers a boot space of 420L while with the third row folded down, the boot space expands to 827L. From a design perspective, the Tata Safari gets a new look with a new close-patterned grille featuring body-colored vertical slats. The front fascia features LED headlamps and a distinctive LED bar stretching across the bonnet, providing a welcome function. Meanwhile, the rear gets a connected LED taillamp setup with a sequential function, a rear wiper with a washer, and an LED strip running across the width of the tailgate with a goodbye function. The exterior is available in a new color palette which includes Cosmic Gold, Galactic Sapphire, Stardust Ash, Stellar Frost, Oberon Black, Supernova Copper, and Lunar Slate. Customers can choose the color options in accordance to the variant they go for. Speaking of the variants, Tata Motors has reworked on its variant strategy with the new Safari, offering a range of 10 variants: Smart (O), Pure (O), Adventure, Adventure+, Adventure+ Dark, Accomplished, Accomplished Dark, Accomplished+ Dark, Adventure+ A, and Accomplished+. Tata Safari also comes equipped with a 31.24 cm touchscreen infotainment screen featuring wireless mobile connectivity, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster with a new interface,  a 10-speaker JBL sound system, ambient lighting, and a two-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated logo. The list of features continues with a panoramic sunroof, powered and ventilated front seats and air purifier. On the safety front the new Tata Safari gets an Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) safety suite along with up to 7 airbags (6 airbags as standard), electronic stability control (ESC), hill assist, a 360-degree camera, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), Under the hood, the new Safari houses a BS6 Phase 2-compliant 2.0-litre diesel engine generating 168bhp and 350Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a six-speed manual gearbox and a six-speed torque converter, delivering power to the front wheels. With the manual transmission, the new Tata Safari returns 16.3 kmpl while with the automatic transmission the SUV returns an average of 14.5 kmpl. The Tata Safari is the flagship model for the Indian car maker that was first introduced in the country in 2021. At that time, the focus was as much on drawing inspiration from an iconic name as was on putting a brand-new model on a pedestal. This eventually resulted in the introduction of a three-row vehicle that promised SUV-like style but claimed MPV-like comfort. Fast forward just two years and the updated Tata Safari has a new wardrobe to show off in 2023.

And then there is the pivotal factor of in-car features - the more, the better, even if you end up not using a significant chunk of these in the long run. The Koreans started the trend and rivals like Tata Motors are only too keen to hit back. The Tata Safari, therefore, was always going to be pampered and peppered with features galore. So how do all of these factors come together to manifest in the flagship product from Tata Motors? Here is the first-drive review of the 2023 Tata Safari facelift:

2023 tata safari facelift: exterior.

The updated Safari looks a tad bit more sporty compared to the outgoing model, while still retaining its largely sophisticated exterior design language. The face, for instance, has been reworked and now sports a new grille, a reworked vertical housing for the fog lamps and headlights, and a stretched DRL bar that connects the sequential DRLs on either side. In a nutshell, the comprehensive updates of the front fascia have given the SUV a butch yet premium look, making it significantly distinctive from the previous model which it has replaced.

There is not much change in the side profile of the new Tata Safari SUV, apart from the reworked alloy design on the 19-inch wheels. The design is likely to evoke different reactions from different viewpoints instead of inviting unilateral awe. But what works really well is how Tata Motors' designers have managed to snub the use of chrome elements and still come up with a visually striking profile. Overall, the side profile of the SUV looks slightly curvy and pretty clean. The subtly flared wheel arches give the SUV a bold and muscular look, while the new design alloy wheels enhance the premium sporty feel.

There are no chrome elements on the rear of the Safari either, where a stretched LED bar connects the two tail lights and runs all across the length of the trunk door which, by the way, offers powered powered-open option. Besides that, the tailgate looks pretty sculpted thanks to the glossy black panel running through the centre of the trunk that also houses the sleek LED bar. The integrated roof spoiler and chunky black bumper with a thick metal skid plate are other design elements that come enhancing the SUV's bold visual appearance.

2023 Tata Safari facelift: Interior

The new Tata Safari's cabin has become much more premium now and a slew of updates to the feature list as well as to the upholstery lend the vehicle a premium appeal that would have otherwise been restricted to models in segments above the one this car competes in. The top-end Accomplished variant - or persona, as Tata Motors refers to it, comes with a dual-tone colour scheme inside the cabin but the White theme on the seats would be quite hard to maintain in pristine condition.

The layered dashboard now gets an artificial wood panel which is a nice touch while the central section is dominated by a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment display unit that is intuitive, puts out clear feed from the 360-degree cameras and supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The map feed can also be redirected to the all-digital driver display screen for better navigation which now sports customisable layouts.

The steering wheel has also been updated and is now a four-spoke set with mounted controls and has an illuminated Tata logo on it. This is certainly another nice touch from Tata Motors enhancing the premium quotient inside the cabin of the new Safari SUV. The updated steering wheel is quite easy to operate and control the advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS) functionalities that this car offers, courtesy of the layout of the control buttons on the wheel. On that note, the new Tata Safari SUV offers 11 ADAS functions in a further bid to aid driving safety and convenience.

There are plenty of other convenience features that the new Safari packs as well, whether it is the dual-zone climate control function, air purification system, ventilated seats at the front and middle, voice-activated panoramic sunroof, Alexa to Home technology or remote access to the vehicle.

Space remains the same inside the cabin of the new Tata Safari, which means that the SUV continues to be a decently spacious vehicle for passengers in all three rows. Space in that third row, however, continues to come at the cost of a compromised boot storage space. But that's really expected, right?

Overall, the new Tata Safari SUV come as a very well-appointed vehicle with quite a lot of space for comfortable long trips but now, at least in the top-spec version, is significantly more premium than before.

2023 Tata Safari facelift: Safety

Tata Motors has been taking the front row across different segments in the Indian passenger vehicle market over the last few years when it comes to making safe cars. While the modern Tata cars come with a wide range of safety features, they also come with robust build quality as well. The Tata Safari facelift too comes following the same strategy.

The Tata Safari comes well-equipped with a host of safety features designed to provide peace of mind to the occupants. Some of the advanced safety technologies available onboard the Tata Safari facelift include multiple airbags, electronic stability control, traction control, electronic parking brake with auto hold, rain-sensing wipers, rollover mitigation, hill hold control, 360-degree view HD camera system, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist and lane departure warning, front collision prevention function, blind spot detection etc. Moreover, it also gets features like ABS with EBD, Isofix child seat anchors etc.

Here are some of the key safety features onboard the Tata Safari.

2023 tata safari facelift: performance.

Here is where the updated Tata Safari SUV could have been improved so much more. But isn't. So much has already been mentioned - and experienced - about the 2.0-litre turbo diesel motor under the hood and the choice between an automatic gearbox and a six-speed manual stick. Yes, the turbocharged diesel motor could have been refined further. Yes, the grunt is still uncomfortably palpable when pushing the vehicle to its limits. But yes, the new Tata Safari - especially with the automatic transmission - is still quite a fun car to drive and has enough power to get a move on when required. The suspension continues to hold its own on rough roads and the steering still has a nice heft to aid matters.

But why this otherwise very capable model does not also come with a petrol engine under its hood is beyond the comprehension of many. Tata Motors is almost snubbing the petrol-buying audience in the country, a group that is steadily increasing. There is also no 4x4 option for the updated version of the SUV because the platform on which the new Tata Safari is based on does not allow for it. But here is also a miss, especially as this model does go up against authentic off-road options in the market as well.

2023 Tata Safari facelift: Verdict

The updated Tata Safari is a big step up in terms of its exterior design and cabin features and quality when compared to the previous model. Space has always been this car's strength but the additions to the feature list arm this SUV to the absolute teeth.

The diesel motor and the automatic transmission work extremely well in tandem but as mentioned previously, Tata Motors ought to strongly consider a petrol option for the model as well, especially considering the number of buyers favouring the petrol engines are increasing across India over the last few years

Tata Safari is a highly popular SUV having a long standing history in the Indian automobile industry. Originally introduced in 1998, the vehicle is currently into its Second Generation having spawned a number of facelifts. It is based on the OMEGARC (Optimal Modular Efficient Global Advanced Architecture) platform. 

Tata Safari: Exterior

Safari’s exterior provides a bold and muscular design. Up front it offers a sculpted hood, chrome-finished grille, sleek projector headlamps, LED DRLs and a skid plate. 

On the sides we get to see roof rails, strong shoulderline, flared wheel arches, black plastic cladding and 18-inch alloy wheels.

Features: New Safari gets features like a 10-inch touchscreen JBL infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Further there is a panoramic sunroof, Fully Automatic Climate Control (FATC) with HVAC, multiple charging ports, iRA- Connected Car Technology and more

Safety: Safari offers ADAS Tech like autonomous emergency brake, front and rear collision warning, blind spot detection, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, lane change alert, traffic sign recognition among others. Tata has brought the Safari name back with its latest model, which is a seven-seat derivative of the Harrier. Unlike previous Safaris, which used ladder-frame chassis and traditional, rear-biased 4x4, the new one uses Land Rover's D8 platform (OmegaArc in Tata parlance) and is front-wheel-drive only. It's powered by a 170hp FCA-sourced 2.0-litre diesel engine, which can be had with either a six-speed manual or six-speed torque-converter automatic gearbox.

What's New?

The facelifted Tata Harrier and Safari have been launched in India. The Tata Harrier facelift is priced from Rs 15.49 lakh with prices for the automatic starting from Rs 19.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The Harrier Dark Edition is priced from Rs 19.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The Safari facelift's prices, meanwhile, start from Rs 16.19 lakh with the automatics and Dark Edition variants both priced from Rs 20.69 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom). The prices are introductory and valid for a limited period. The SUVs are priced at a premium over the outgoing models but pack in a lot more tech than before.

Starting with the exterior, both SUVs now get greater differentiation in design. Both SUVs retain the split headlamp design but now feature full-width lightbars up top with the main headlamps positioned lower down. Both SUVs also get different design bumpers with the Harrier featuring more triangular housings for the headlamps to the Safari’s more rectangular housings. The Safari also gets a silver-finished faux skid-plate element while the Harrier gets a black-finished piece. At the rear, both SUVs get revised tail lamps with a lightbar element along with redesigned bumpers.

Inside, both SUVs get a revised dashboard design with new control surfaces and more tech. Top models now feature a new 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system along with a new 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. Furthermore, each trim level – Persona in Tata speak – gets its own unique interior trim finishes to stand out. There’s a lot to talk about by way of features as well with both SUVs packing in Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, powered tailgates, panoramic sunroof with mood lights, electronic parking brake with auto hold, ventilated front seats, ventilated seats in second row (Safari), powered driver seat and more.

Tata has also revised the variant names going from the previous XE, XM, XT and XZ variants to using Smart, Pure, Adventure, Fearless and Accomplished. As with the outgoing model, Tata is offering both SUVs with the Dark Edition variants.

Like many Tata models the Safari also gets drive modes so you have City, Eco and Sport and yes there is perceptible difference between City and Sport for sure. But there is also a terrain response system a la Land Rover. Rough Road mode, Wet mode and then back to the default City drive mode.

Tata Safari 

The Tata Safari carries the rich legacy of the original SUV that was a hit on Indian roads. The new Safari has been completely revamped and comes with more equipment and a whole new look and feel. 

How’s the Design?

The Tata Safari has a front fascia that is almost similar to the Harrier. The split headlamp cluster is the same and there is a differentiated tri-arrow pattern for the front grille with chrome finishing. There is a third row of seats now and the roofline is also higher for the SUV along with a rear overhang which is longer. It also comes with a rear quarter glass that is full-sized and the tail-end is also very upright. The tail lights are different from the Harrier though. There are chunkier roof rails which are designed to indicate a stepped roof. The Safari is longer and taller while the wheelbase and width remain the same. 

How does it perform?

The Tata Safari’s engine has high levels of refinement while there are Eco, City, and Sport driving modes. The engine offers a wide and punchy power band, while the Sport mode is the best for higher drivability. You can easily get the SUV up to higher speeds although there is some noise when you rev the engine hard. There are 6-speed manual and automatic transmission systems and the driving experience is also neat. The clutch is a little heavy if you are using the manual transmission unit. Slotting the gears will require a little more effort in turn. The automatic version comes with a unit from Hyundai and shifts smoothly engine. The Safari is responsive and agile enough.

How’s the driving experience?

The Tata Safari offers a mixed bag in terms of the driving experience and the ride. The steering feels heavier at lower speeds while higher speeds are not as comforting or balanced. However, the Safari is a good highway cruiser and offers more confidence and stability. The suspension system is more robust and is softer as well, leading to better absorption of bumps at lower speeds. The Safari can readily tackle bad roads, potholes and uneven stretches. 

What’s the interior like?

The cabin is quite similar to the Harrier. The dashboard looks neat although the Oyster White interior theme is the stand-out feature here. There is also the electronic parking brake now. There is a great view from the driver’s seat with mostly high quality materials inside. The central console, however, may eat into the driver’s knee room. The 8.8 inch touch screen infotainment unit appears small inside the car. The quality of the rear view camera could also have been better. There is a lengthy feature list including the JBL audio system, panoramic sunroof, and the powered seat for the driver along with connected tech features. Wireless charging is unavailable though. The middle row has theatre-esque seating with a higher placement for the seats. Comfort is great and the overall experience is good enough, with the 60:40 sliding function. There is a Boss  mode for adjusting the co-driver’s seat from the back itself. The top-end variant also gets a six-seater configuration with captain’s seats in the middle. These come with great cushioning and comfort, while offering several adjustments and a folding armrest. The rear windows however skip sun blinds and USB slots are hard to find when you venture near the central tunnel. The third row is accessible with the one-touch fold and tumble mechanism. Once you are in position, the space is not that bad. Adults will find decent legroom and the big windows create an airy feeling with blower control and two USB charging slots as well. 

Tech and infotainment

The Tata Safari comes with its 8.8 inch touch screen infotainment system with connected car and remote tracking functions, a reverse camera, panoramic sunroof, USB charging slots, JBL audio system, powered driver’s seat, and a lot more. 

Safety equipment

The Tata Safari comes with six airbags along with ABS, EBD, ESC, traction control, and brake assist. There are other features including fog lamps, parking sensors, and hill-descent control. 

Which variant to buy?

You may check out the XT option if you are on a tighter budget. The XMA is the value pick from all the variants, while if you are okay paying more, then the XZA or XZ variants are par for the course. The XE variant has decent equipment at the entry level including good safety features, projector headlamps, remote central locking, power outlets, and more. The XM trim comes with the automatic transmission option, a 7 inch touch screen infotainment unit, driving modes and more. The XT gets more premium features including TPMS, automatic wipers and headlamps, rear view camera, 18-inch alloy wheels, LE3D DRLs, iRA connectivity suite, ambient lighting, and a lot more. It comes only in the manual guise. The XT offers a panoramic sunroof for an extra amount. The XZ comes with an automatic transmission system and is a value offering with more airbags and safety features, the 8.8 inch touch screen infotainment unit, 7 inch semi-digital instrument console, terrain response modes, JBL audio system, Xenon headlamps, and more. The XZ+ and XZA+ take it up a notch with captain’s chairs and the sunroof but are costlier. The XZ+ Adventure is more popular with buyers due to its interior changes. 

Which cars compete in the segment?

The Tata Safari takes on the Mahindra XUV500 and the MG Hector Plus in its segment. It is the tallest and widest of the lot, while the MG Hector is the longest here. The Hector Plus has the biggest boot space while the Safari has the lowest volume. The Safari and Hector Plus both have more powerful diesel engines in terms of output. However, the torque output is the highest for the XUV500’s diesel engine. The Safari manages to hold its own in terms of features, design, handling, performance, and interior space. 

Verdict (Value for Money)

The Tata Safari offers a spacious and comfortable last row of seats along with a rugged and durable vibe. It offers good performance, a refined engine, and a long list of features. The SUV’s design is also a head-turner on the road. However, the driving dynamics and heavy steering could be minor hindrances. If you talk about a muscular and attractive three-row SUV with good performance, then the Tata Safari certainly makes a strong case for itself.

The world’s electric car fleet continues to grow strongly, with 2024 sales set to reach 17 million

Despite near-term challenges in some markets, based on today's policy settings, almost 1 in 3 cars on the roads in China by 2030 is set to be electric, and almost 1 in 5 in both United States and European Union

More than one in five cars sold worldwide this year is expected to be electric, with surging demand projected over the next decade set to remake the global auto industry and significantly reduce oil consumption for road transport, according to the new edition of the IEA’s annual Global EV Outlook .

The latest Outlook , published today, finds that global electric car sales are set to remain robust in 2024, reaching around 17 million by the end of the year. In the first quarter, sales grew by about 25% compared with the same period in 2023 – similar to the growth rate seen in the same period a year earlier, but from a larger base. The number of electric cars sold globally in the first three months of this year is roughly equivalent to the number sold in all of 2020.

In 2024, electric cars sales in China are projected to leap to about 10 million, accounting for about 45% of all car sales in the country. In the United States, roughly one in nine cars sold are projected to be electric – while in Europe, despite a generally weak outlook for passenger car sales and the phase-out of subsidies in some countries, electric cars are still set to represent about one in four cars sold.

This growth builds on a record-breaking 2023. Last year, global electric car sales soared by 35% to almost 14 million. While demand remained largely concentrated in China, Europe and the United States, growth also picked up in some emerging markets such as Viet Nam and Thailand, where electric cars accounted for 15% and 10%, respectively, of all cars sold.

Substantial investment in the electric vehicle supply chain, ongoing policy support, and declines in the price of EVs and their batteries are expected to produce even more significant changes in the years to come. The Outlook finds that under today’s policy settings, every other car sold globally is set to be electric by 2035. Meanwhile, if countries’ announced energy and climate pledges are met in full and on time, two in three cars sold would be electric by 2035. In this scenario, the rapid uptake of electric vehicles – from cars to vans, trucks, buses, and two- and three-wheelers –  avoids the need for around 12 million barrels of oil per day, on a par with current demand from road transport in China and Europe combined.

“The continued momentum behind electric cars is clear in our data, although it is stronger in some markets than others,” said IEA Executive Director Fatih Birol . “Rather than tapering off, the global EV revolution appears to be gearing up for a new phase of growth. The wave of investment in battery manufacturing suggests the EV supply chain is advancing to meet automakers’ ambitious plans for expansion. As a result, the share of EVs on the roads is expected to continue to climb rapidly. Based on today’s policy settings alone, almost one in three cars on the roads in China by 2030 is set to be electric, and almost one in five in both the United States and European Union. This shift will have major ramifications for both the auto industry and the energy sector.”

The report finds that manufacturers have taken major steps to deliver on the strengthening EV ambitions of governments, including by making significant financial commitments. Thanks to high levels of investment over the past five years, the world’s capacity to produce batteries for EVs is well positioned to keep up with demand, even as it rises sharply over the next decade. The pace of the transition to EVs may not be consistent and will hinge on affordability, the report emphasises.

In China, more than 60% of electric cars sold in 2023 were already less expensive to buy than their conventional equivalents. However, in Europe and the United States, the purchase prices for cars with internal combustion engines remained cheaper on average, though intensifying market competition and improving battery technologies are expected to reduce prices in the coming years. Even where upfront prices are high, the lower operating costs of EVs mean the initial investment pays back over time.

Growing electric car exports from Chinese automakers, which accounted for more than half of all electric car sales in 2023, could add to downward pressure on purchase prices. Chinese companies, which are also setting up production facilities abroad, have already seen strong sales of more affordable models launched in 2022 and 2023 in overseas markets. This highlights that the composition of the main EV-producing economies is diverging considerably from the traditional auto industry.

Ensuring that the availability of public charging keeps pace with electric vehicle sales is crucial for continued growth, according to the report. The number of public charging points installed globally was up 40% in 2023 relative to 2022, and growth for fast chargers outpaced that of slower ones. However, to meet a level of electric vehicle deployment in line with the pledges made by governments, charging networks need to grow sixfold by 2035. At the same time, policy support and careful planning are essential to make sure greater demand for electricity from charging does not overstretch electricity grids.

While 2024 isn't as brutal so far, there are 10 solid rides for which this will be their last year in production. Quadrifoglio, Italian for "four-leaf clover", is Alfa Romeo's performance brand, much like BMW M, Mercedes-AMG, or Fiat Abarth. The Giulia Quadrifoglio, introduced as a model in 2018, is one of the fastest and most upscale sports sedans on the market, with a 500+ horsepower twin-turbo V-6. It may not be the most reliable ride of all time, but it is one of the most fun to drive.

The Giulia Quadrifoglio will make its final lap in 2024, being discontinued, and there are no immediate plans to replace it with anything. Larry Dominique, the head of Alfa Romeo’s North American division, confirmed the Giulia Quadrifoglio's demise on Linkedin , stating the final vehicles would be leaving the factory in June of 2023.

It, however, will cross the finish line of obsolescence at the same time as its brand mate, being discontinued after the 2024 model year.

With that, the Quadrifoglio performance brand seems to have died off entirely, but there is a possible resurrection in the future. Alfa Romeo is ditching all high-performance gas-powered engines as they transition into electric vehicles, which could bear the Quadrifoglio name somewhere down the line. It might have made more sense to carry the ICE cars until the EVs were ready, but sales in North America were never that strong to begin with.

Since its introduction in 1967, the Camaro has been synonymous with performance and cool, helping to define the classic muscle car era. After it was reintroduced in 2010, with unimaginable horsepower, it also helped define the modern muscle car era.

The Dodge Charger and Challenger were discontinued following the 2023 model year and now the Camaro is traveling that same road in 2024, leaving the Ford Mustang as the only remaining American muscle car. While the gas-powered Dodges were supplanted by the all-electric Charger Daytona EV muscle car, there are no plans to electrify the Camaro or introduce a battery-powered replacement.

Ford Escape

No escape for the ford suv.

Since its introduction in 2001, the Ford Escape has been an incredibly popular compact crossover SUV . It has constantly moved one hundred thousand units or more in every year of production, including over 140,000 sales in 2023. This doesn't seem like a vehicle destined for the chopping block, but Ford has announced that 2024 will be the last year for the Escape.

The reasons for the Escape's demise are quite simple. It is a terribly dated vehicle that is in desperate need of a complete overhaul, which Ford could certainly do. However, the crossover SUV segment is very crowded, even within Ford's lineup, and there are many better alternatives out there. Ford currently makes 9 different SUV models, so it makes more sense to shed a few, like they did with the Edge, and focus on competing with other automakers, not themselves.

Maserati Ghibli

It's maserati giblets now.

With a six-figure starting price, the Ghibli is considered an entry-level Maserati. The luxury mid-size car is, as expected, also a high-performance ride with a muscular 572-horsepower twin-turbo V-8. Unfortunately, the Italian automaker is going through a major overhaul of its line-up and one reoccurring theme is that anything with a V-8 is getting mothballed.

Maserati had actually said 2023 would be the final year for the Ghibli, but extended that to the 2024 model year, even though there is literally no difference between the two. Much like Alfa Romeo, Maserati says it is shifting its focus to all-electric performance vehicles, which is the modern way of saying they are killing off all the awesome ICE machines.

Mitsubishi mirage, the mirage is just an illusion.

The Mitsubishi Mirage started out life in North America as the badge-engineered Dodge Colt. It eventually became the Mirage in the U.S. market and, after a hiatus from 2003 to 2012, was relaunched as the most affordable vehicle in its segment . Of course, affordability means stripped-down features and double-digit horsepower performance, but as basic transportation, it worked well.

It would seem, perhaps a bit too basic, though, as sales have fallen in recent years, indicating people want a little extra something in their rides. Mitsubishi claims they have discontinued the Mirage after the 2024 model year to make way for electric vehicles, of which they have nine EV models planned for the rest of the decade, but do acknowledge that nobody is buying the once-popular vehicle anymore.

Mini Clubman

The clubman is no longer on the list.

In February 2024, the final Mini Clubman rolled off the line, marking the 1.1 millionth subcompact executive car ever built. Any model that pushes over a million units in 14 years of production seems like a reasonable success , but it has been discontinued, with no replacement in the works. Mini has announced they intend to be an all-EV brand by 2030, and the gas-powered Clubman is the first to fall.

"Clubman" was originally a name given to a classic Mini in 1969, but for whatever reason, was never an official model. To celebrate its departure, 1,969 Mini Clubman "Final Edition" models are to be built, with a "1 of 1969" badge on the C-pillar and other special markings. That figure is for global sales, but reportedly 1,000 of them will be available in the United States.

Nissan Titan

Nissan lost the clash of the titans.

News that Nissan is discontinuing the Titan after the 2024 model year is huge, literally. The full-size pickup has been a staple of the Japanese automaker's lineup since its introduction in 2004, and a favorite among off-roading enthusiasts. There apparently is way too much competition in the segment, dominated by the Ford F-Series, Ram 1500, as well as the Chevrolet and GMC 1500 pickups, so the Titan has become a casualty in the pickup wars.

Actually, the demise of the Titan is part of a larger purge at Nissan, which kind of looks like a massacre. Last year, the Japanese automaker axed the Maxima, and next year will be the last for the Altima and Versa. Like many vehicle manufacturers, Nissan is apparently going all in on EVs, with hopes of being totally electrified by 2030, but they aren't really filling in the gaps until then, which is a weird move a lot of their peers are doing as well.

RAM 1500 TRX

The latest dinosaur to go extinct.

The RAM 1500 TRX isn't officially its own model, but it is a trim level that gets treated as such, so it qualifies as a ride that won't make it until past 2024. Ram is discontinuing the super-performance truck, which coincides with the Stellantis Mopar brands that are ditching gas-powered V-8 awesomeness. The Charger and Challenger were executed last year and now the most amazing truck that ever was is being euthanized in the name of fuel economy.

The good news is, the RAM 1500 isn't going anywhere and there's a better-than-average chance that there will be a new hyper-truck trim in the lineup come next year. It, however, will not have a Hellcat V-8 under the hood, but may feature a 540 horsepower high-output version of the turbocharged Hurricane inline-six engine . While it's not quite the insanity that the TRX offers, it's still a crazy amount of power for a pickup truck, and hopefully, somewhere down the line, the TRX moniker will return.

Toyota venza, the venza dies again.

The Toyota Venza mid-size crossover SUV was introduced in 2008 and was a rare miss for the dominant Japanese automaker, being discontinued in 2017 for less-than-optimal sales. The crossover SUV market was too tempting to ignore, so it was brought back in 2020, only to get a pink slip again in 2024. The second time around, it wasn't killed off because of low sales, though they weren't great, but rather due to an exciting new replacement.

Toyota Venza Stats

• Top Sales Year: 2021 - 61,718 units
• 2023 Sales: 29,907 units
• 2024 MSRP: $35,070

Many of the vehicles on this list were canned without naming an immediate successor, but the Venza is bowing out so the Crown Signia can reign supreme. The low-profile Signia is a variant of the Crown line that has been made by Toyota since 1955, mostly as a sedan. The crossover SUV version, to be introduced in North America for the 2025 model year, will be both a hybrid and plug-in hybrid with a 2.5-liter naturally-aspirated I-4 that each produces 243 horsepower, which is more power than a base model Venza ever jammed out.
