Scenic Cruise Budapest to Bucharest 10 days

One of our best holidays ever, our boat the Scenic Crystal was magnificent ,nearly new, the crew were the happiest hardworking bunch you could ask for, nothing too much trouble. The choice of food was exceptional as was the quality. The choice of wines, spirits and beer was superb. Facilities were fantastic with a main dining room plus two specialist high end dining areas plus a cafe for light bites. The excursions were thoughtful, varied and usually provided a choice. The highlight for me was a meal in a family home in Croatia, wonderful food, home made plum brandy and wine. Our journey included stops Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria ending at JWMarriot in Bucharest, Rumania. The really best part the cruise was all in, not a penny extra! All food and drink 24/7 all gratuities, not even a charge for the Champagne I Drank at breakfast. Very highly recommended !

We took a boat cruise (approx 90 mins) which cruised past all the lovely buildings on the Danube. Viewing from the water gives the buildings a new perspective which is not obstructed by the crowds that flock to lovely Budapest.

The views from the river on both the Pest and Buda sides rival any in the world. The buildings, full of history,are beautiful, best seen from a river cruise.

I always thought the Danube river was the biggest in Europe but it was certainly a little disappointing but at night the lights from the castle and other building were shinning brightly on it. Beautiful

The Danube is a major river in central and eastern Europe that is the second longest waterway on the continent. This river cuts through the centre of Budapest separating Buda on one side of the river and Pest on the other. A popular way to enjoy the Danube is to take a boat cruise along the river, allowing you views of the attractions on both sides of the river. There are quite a few companies offering these services which you can find online or by visiting the Budapest Vacation and forum pages here on Tripadvisor. Similarly, there are floating restaurants mooring in the Danube that you can visit for an interesting dining experience. Floating hotels are available as well keen to try something very different. Another way to enjoy the Danube is to walk one of the many bridges that cross the river, linking Buda and Pest. The two that we enjoy most are Chain Bridge and Liberty Bridge. Chain Bridge is excellently located in the heart of the city centre area for Pest and just under Castle Hill on the Buda side of the river. Liberty (Freedom) Bridge is further south, linking the two sides near the famous Gellert Hotel on the Buda Side and Spa and the Great Market Hall in Pest. For very nice views, you can walk along the Danube Promenade or even take the famous yellow Tram Line 2 along the river. This affords nice views of the river and Buda, allowing you to see Castle Hill and its attractions on this side of the Danube. For best views of the Pest side of the river, you can make the leisurely climb up Gellert Hill or make your way Buda Castle or St. Matthias Church and Fisherman's Bastion where you will be richly rewarded with stunning views of the river and the Pest side of the river. Views of the gothic style Parliament building is gorgeous from up here, especially on clear days. In the end, much of what Budapest has to offer is found near the Danube so you are very likely to end up on or near the river at some stage of your holiday. Just have your camera ready so you can snap a few pictures of the Danube and the beautiful city buildings and attractions which line its banks.

I took a cruise when it was getting dark, started at 7pm and went on for an hour or so and what a view! I love the river and all the buildings you can admire from there... You must take a river cruise!
