Scheduling a Temple Appointment

Temple Appointment Scheduling Tool

In Latter-day Saint temples, members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints can feel closer to our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. Worshipping in the house of the Lord is a special, sacred opportunity where faithful members of the Church can participate in ordinances for themselves and on behalf of their ancestors. Temple schedules are open to every member with a temple recommend and making an LDS temple appointment can ensure that you have a place at the time you want to attend.

President Russell M Nelson taught, “I urge you to find a way to make an appointment regularly with the Lord-to be in His holy house-then keep that appointment with exactness and joy. I promise you that the Lord will bring the miracles He knows you need as you make sacrifices to serve and worship in His temples” (Russell M. Nelson, “ Becoming Exemplary Latter-day Saints, ” Ensign or Liahona , Nov. 2018, 114).

Making an appointment is easy. To make a reservation, visit the Temple Appointment Scheduling page. When you arrive on the page, you will be prompted to select the temple you wish to attend. The default temple is the one for the temple district in which you live.

You can search for another temple outside of your temple district. After choosing the temple, you will be prompted to select the ordinance you wish to participate in. You can choose from proxy baptism, initiatory, endowment, and sealing. For those wishing to go to the temple for their own ordinances, please see Scheduling Living Ordinances below.

Once you select the temple ordinance, you will then be prompted to choose the time you wish to attend. At this point, you can see the temple schedule by selecting the date you want to make an appointment for. To finalize your reservation, review the information and note whether you wish to receive a confirmation email of your appointment. Please also mark whether you will need language assistance. Then click on Schedule Appointment .

In addition to the process outlined above, members who have access to LDS Tools can schedule LDS temple appointments using the app. To make temple appointments using LDS Tools, open the app and select More . Then select Temples ; you will be taken to a page that shows the information for the temple district that you live in. Here you can make a temple reservation, schedule a temple ordinance, submit names to the prayer roll, and view family names that you can perform ordinances for under Ordinance Ready . Additionally, you can see any upcoming closures and hours of operation for the temple you have selected.

Scheduling Living Ordinances

Members who will be receiving their own living ordinances (endowment or sealing) should make an appointment directly with the temple. These temple appointments should be made well in advance of the desired date. To schedule a living ordinance appointment and reserve the temple, contact the temple using the provided phone number.

A Kyoto Travel Guide

Must See Kyoto 1 Day Itinerary

Want to visit all the must see Kyoto sights in one day? Here’s a step by step itinerary to help you get to all of Kyoto’s must see places in one day if you’re pressed for time.

Kinkaku-ji Temple image copyright Damien Douxchamps

Here’s a list of Kyoto attractions that I consider must-sees (roughly in order of importance and appeal). Below that, I’ve provided a Kyoto 1 Day itinerary that helps you see all of these attractions (except Nijo-jo Castle) in the most time-efficient manner possible:

  • Kinkaku-ji Temple Kinkaku-ji, the famed “Golden Pavilion,” is Kyoto’s most iconic sight, rising above its reflecting pond like an apparition.
  • Fushimi-Inari-Taisha Shrine Perhaps the single most impressive sight in all of Kyoto, bar none, Fushimi-Inari-Taisha Shrine is the most important shrine in the entire city. Don’t miss it!
  • Ginkaku-ji Temple Ginkaku-ji temple, the “Silver Pavilion”, has magnificient halls and gardens, with a tremendous viewpoint over the entire temple compound
  • Arashiyama Bamboo Grove The Arashiyama Bamboo Grove is one of Kyoto’s top sights and for good reason: standing amid these soaring stalks of bamboo is like being in another world.
  • Kiyomizu-dera Temple Kiyomizu-dera Temple is one of Kyoto’s must-see attractions. It’s a bustling riot of commerce and schlock, but it’s a lot of fun, especially for the kids.
  • Chion-in Temple Sometimes called the Vatican of Pure Land Buddhism, this vast temple is one of the most and popular temples in the city
  • Nanzen-ji Temple One of the best temples in the Northern Higashiyama district, Nanzen-ji Temple is a sprawling Zen paradise surrounded by lush green hills
  • Tenryu-ji Temple Tenryu-ji Temple is the headline attraction in Arashiyama, a Zen temple with one of the finest gardens in Kyoto and wonderful mountain views
  • Nijo-jo Castle Nijo-jo Castle is one of Kyoto’s most popular and impressive sights. It shows the power that the Shoguns wielded over the emperors throughout the Edo Period

Must See Kyoto Temples 1 Day Itinerary

– Start the day by heading to the west side of the city: Arashiyama (see the Arashiyama District page for transport details). Try to arrive in Arashiyama no later than 9am.

– In Arashiyama, visit Tenryu-ji Temple and the adjoining Arashiyama Bamboo Grove , then return quickly to the main street of Arashiyama (in front of Tenryu-ji).

– From here, you’ll head to the northwest corner of the city to visit Kinkaku-ji Temple (the famed “Golden Pavilion”). For this leg, a taxi is really the only way to go since there’s no direct/efficient public transport. A taxi from Arashiyama to Kinkaku-ji will take around 20 minutes and cost around Y1900.

– After visiting Kinkaku-ji, catch Kyoto City bus no 204 all the way east (make sure to take it east rather than south) to the Ginkakuji-michi Stop. Walk from the bus stop to Ginkaku-ji Temple and visit the temple.

– After visiting Ginkaku-ji, exit the temple and walk south along the Path of Philosophy to Nanzen-ji Temple (about 25 minutes at a good clip).

– Visit Nanzen-ji Temple and then walk west to Jingu-michi. Turn left (south) on Jingu-michi, cross Sanjo-dori, pass Shoren-in Temple and then enter Chion-in Temple via the enormous San-mon Gate.

– Exit Chion-in to the left, cut across Maruyama-koen Park and follow Nene-no-Michi and then Ninen-zaka and Sannen-zaka south to Kiyomizu-dera Temple .

– After visiting Kiyomizu-dera, walk down Chawan-zaka and Gojo-zaka to reach Higashioji-dori. Cross Higashioji-dori and walk west (downhill) on Gojo-dori to reach Keihan Kiyomizu-Gojo Station. Here, board any Keihan train except a tokkyu (limited express) and take it to Fushimi-Inari Station. From here, it’s a short walk to Fushimi-Inari Taisha Shrine , the last stop on this itinerary.

– Getting home from Fushimi-Inari-Taisha Shrine is easy: You can take the Keihan Line from Fushimi-Inari Station to Shihijo, Shijo or Sanjo stations, or the JR Line from Inari Station to Kyoto Station.

If you complete the Must See Kyoto Temples itinerary in one day, I wish you a hearty otsukare-same (job well done)! I sincerely hope that next time you come to Kyoto, you can slow down a bit and see some of the sights on one of my Off-the-Beaten-Track Kyoto itineraries.

If You Can Take More Than A Day, I Recommend You Do So

Important note: It is indeed possible to do the preceding itinerary in one day, especially if you are reasonably fit and are willing to take taxis where I have indicated. But be aware that it will be one long, rushed and tiring day. However, if you have two days in the city and can do the itinerary over those two days, then this would be a fantastic itinerary for those who want to check off all the must see temples in Kyoto.

  • Hotel Vista Premio (formerly Best Western Hotel Kyoto) The Hotel Vista Premio (formerly Best Western Hotel Kyoto) is an excellent mid-range hotel located in the heart of Kyoto’s downtown shopping district

Is There Anything Missing From The Must See Kyoto Itinerary?

Some might wonder why I have not included any of Kyoto’s imperial properties ( Kyoto Gosho , Sento Gosho , Katsura-Rikyu, Shugakuin-Rikyu ) on this list. Frankly, I have never felt these places to be as rewarding as other spots in Kyoto, and the need to apply to visit and tour the properties as part of a group tour conducted in Japanese really dampens their appeal. Sure, architecture and garden snobs enthuse ad nauseam about Katsura-Rikyu, but trekking all the way there and being shepherded around like a schoolchild significantly detracts from the experience. For my money, if I’m after a superb garden and sublime house, I’ll take Okochi-Sanso Villa any day.

Trimbakeshwar temple visit guide: Day trip from Nashik to one of the Jyotirlinga temples in India

Trimbakeshwar temple visit guide, A jyotirlinga temple near Nashik, India

Last Updated on March 5, 2024 by admin

Are you on a trip to cover all the Jyotirlinga in India? Are you visiting Trimbakeshwar temple and want to know how to go about it? I have the perfect Trimbakeshwar temple visit guide from my personal experience.

Popular as one of the 12 Jyotirlinga temples in India, Trimbakeshwar temple has its ardent devotees which pay a visit every few years. The temple is visited by devotees who want to complete their ‘Jyotirlinga yatra’, meaning paying a visit to all 12 temples which are spread across India. I happened to pay my respects to Lord Mahadev during my Nashik trip.

Table of Contents

What are Jyotirlinga and its significance?

A Jyotirlinga refers to a divine representation of Lord Shiva. It is said that originally there were 64 jyotirlingas, but now only 12 of these are considered most auspicious and holy. Each of the 12 Jyotirlinga is believed to be a different manifestation of Shiva and is considered to be the holiest of all shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva.

According to the beliefs of Hindu mythology, it is believed that whosoever visits all of these 12 holy Jyotirlingas, will be released from the cycle of life and death. Maharashtra has the highest number of Jyotirlinga and can be easily covered. Maharashtra Jyotirlinga tour is possible to complete within 5 days.

A list of 12 Jyotirlinga is:

  • Somnath Jyotirlinga in Gir, Gujarat
  • Mallikarjuna Jyotirlinga in Srisailam, Andhra Pradesh
  • Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh
  • Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga in Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh
  • Baidyanath Jyotirlinga in Deoghar, Jharkhand
  • Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga in Maharashtra
  • Ramanathaswamy Jyotirlinga in Rameshwaram, Tamil Nadu
  • Nageshwar Jyotirlinga in Dwarka, Gujarat
  • Kashi Vishwanath Jyotirlinga in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh
  • Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga in Nasik, Maharashtra
  • Kedarnath Jyotirlinga in Rudraprayag, Uttarakhand

Trimbakeshwar temple visit guide

Trimbakeshwar Temple location

Trimbakeshwar Temple is located around 30 km from the city of Nashik, Maharashtra on the banks of River Godavari and on the foothills of Brahmagiri Mountains. Popularly known as Trimbak, Trimbakeshwar temple visit is looked forward to by a lot of people from Pune and Mumbai and rest of India.

About Trimbakeshwar Temple Visit

Built in the 17th Century by Sri Nana Saheb Peshwa, Trimbakeshwar Temple is built of black stone. The architecture features Nagara style which has a spacious courtyard, a square structure which features an internal sanctum which has presiding deity – Lord Shiva.

The entire structure is ornamented with intricate sculpture in stonework which features flowers, figures of gods, humans and animals. The sanctum is crowned with a tower, embellished with a giant Amalaka and a golden kalash. The Shiva linga is present in the floor depression of the sanctum. Water constantly oozes out from the top of the Shiva linga. The Shiva Linga is adorned with a crown studded with precious stones (emeralds and diamonds), which is said to be from the age of Pandavas.

The crown is displayed every Monday between 4 pm – 5 pm.

Note: Women are not allowed to enter the sanctum sanctorum. Only men can enter along with a priest of the temple for performing a ritual called Rudra Abhishek .

Trimbakeshwar Temple Visit Guide: My experience

I had had a long previous day so in spite of a lot of people telling me to go early, I did not. I checked out of my staycation at Holiday Inn Express at 10 am and reached Trimbakeshwar around 11 am. The February sun was high but still pleasant. From the car parking me and my friend walked towards the gate of the temple.

We came across gate 2 and were clueless about what to expect. There were a lot of boards about VIP darshan, shoe keeping fees and a lot of flower and puja material vendors dotting the gate. There were security guards standing there and I inquired for guidance. They informed me that there are 2 ways to pay respects to the lord – Free darshan or VIP darshan. Free darshan has a huge queue and would easily take 4-5 hours to reach the sanctum (of course, it was a Sunday!) and VIP darshan would take around 1-1.5 hours if we decided to give a small donation (Rs. 200).

Free darshan at Trimbakeshwar Temple is from gate no. 1 and VIP darshan after buying tickets is from gate 2. After a quick discussion, we decided to go for the VIP darshan because we did not want to lose half a day standing in the sun.

Outside temple premises

After paying donation and receiving a receipt for it, we kept our shoes in the dedicated shoe stand (paid service) and were directed to enter the temple premises. We reached a looped metal structure where the VIP darshan line had to queue up. It had a sunshade, ceiling fans and people were waiting patiently.

We moved from one loop to the next every few minutes. We could finally see the Trimbakeshwar Temple structure from a distance in the last loop. The sun was directly over our heads and all I did was to stare at the beautiful black structure in front of me.

We were finally allowed to go inside the sanctum. A dedicated queue was maintained here and security priests directed where to stand, when to pray and when to move forward. One of them shouted ‘No mobile phone inside’. A quick glance at the Shiva Linga, I folded my hands and paid my respects. And within seconds I was out of the sanctum on the other side.

Queue area in Trimbakeshwar temple

As I came out, I photographed the beautiful structure and ended my visit to this beautiful temple. I also paid a quick visit to Kushavarta, a sacred pond in the temple premises which is the source of the Godavari River, the longest river in peninsular India.

Festivals and Celebrations at the Temple

While Kumbh Mela is the most devoted festival which is attended by people all over India, there are many other festivals which take place and are of importance. Kumbh Mela is held once every 12 years, which is one of the largest religious gatherings in the world. Millions of pilgrims from far wide gather here to take a dip in the River Godavari.

Other festivals celebrated here include Mahashivaratri, Tripuri Purnima and Rath Poornima.

Carvings at Trimbakeshwar temple

Are mobile phones/photography allowed in Trimbakeshwar Temple?

Yes! Mobile phones are allowed in Trimbakeshwar Temple. But you have to keep it switched off/away while going to the sanctum. Visitors are allowed to take photographs of the temple structure. Even small purses or bags are allowed. No food items or water bottles allowed inside.

Trimbakeshwar temple visit timings

The Trimbakeshwar temple opens its gate to the devotees at 5:30 am and closes at 9 pm.

Best Time To Visit Trimbakeshwar temple

Early morning is the best time to visit the temple. Month wise the best time to visit Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga Nashik is October to March as the weather is pleasant and it is bearable to stand in the sun. but keep in mind that this is a high tourist season. If you want to beat the crowds, visit in monsoon.

How to reach Trimbakeshwar Temple

Trimbakeshwar is located near Nashik so the best way to travel from Nashik to Trimbakeshwar is by road, and the time taken to reach is about 45-60 minutes.

There is no train station in Trimbakeshwar. The nearest railway station is Nashik Railway Station, which is about 41 km away. You can reach Nashik railway station from Mumbai or any other city in India. One can hire a taxi or take a public bus to reach Trimbakeshwar.

There is no airport in Trimbakeshwar. The nearest airport is Nashik Gandhinagar Airport, which is 30 km away. From Nashik Airport, you can reach Trimbakeshwar by hiring a taxi or auto-rickshaw.

Trimbakeshwar is well connected by road. You can reach Trimbakeshwar easily by public or luxury buses or taxis.

Accommodation in Trimbakeshwar

While there are many options to stay in Trimbakeshwar from guesthouses to luxury hotels, visitors have to pass through Nashik. According to me, Nashik has more accommodation options than Trimbak. My suggestions for the same are:

Luxury: Express Inn , Grape county eco resort

Mid- range: Holiday Inn Express , Grand rio

Homestay: Utopia farm stay , Vihang farm stay

Sustainable travel tips:

  • Being an ancient pilgrimage site which sees heavy footfall every day, respect the structures by not sitting on them.
  • Do not enter places which are closed off, and always follow the directions given by the temple security.
  • Keep your mobile phone away while entering the temple sanctum.
  • Throw your garbage in the dustbins located at the entrance of each temple.

These days in Florida, the money-changers are welcome in the Temple

The party that calls itself “Republican” worships a petty, angry, and aggressively white god.

I’m not talking about Donald Trump — though they often confuse him with the Son of Man. (Check out the fake courtroom sketch of Jesus sitting next to Trump at the defense table.)

But their god conveniently hates the same people Trump hates: Black people; book-readers; science-believers; women; Latinos; Muslims; LGBTQ — all of whom aren’t true Americans and clearly headed for hellfire.

temple visit days

This mean little deity enjoys making threats, at least according to Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, who recently posted on her Twixxter account, “God is sending America strong signs to tell us to repent . Earthquakes and eclipses and many more things to come.”

Kids, this is what happens when you don’t pay attention in fifth grade science.

Moscow Margarine goes on, insisting Vladimir Putin’s only killing thousands of Ukrainians to  protect Christianity .

Many of her MAGA co-religionists agree: Vlad the Impaler is a fine Christian leader who invaded Ukraine because it’s full of, you know, Ukrainians, and Jesus doesn’t like them.

Donald Trump desperately wants to be Putin when he grows up: wouldn’t it be fun to have your political enemies killed instead of having to face them in a free democratic election?

Meanwhile, there he is, a criminal defendant in a grubby courtroom, alternately glowering and nodding off, whining he’s being persecuted because — just like Jesus! — he’s God’s anointed, leader of a battle between Good and Evil.

He insists he was “ PRAYING not sleeping !!”

Almighty’s representative

Trump claims the “Good” role, which shows how far the geniuses in his party have strayed from any grasp of reality, not to mention the faith they claim to espouse.

I seem to recall non-white, non-nasty Jesus favoring the poor, the powerless, the old and the sick over the rich, the authoritarian, and the heavily armed.

So much for the New Testament.

temple visit days

Trump has convinced his acolytes that he’s the Almighty’s representative on earth, so holy he’s now selling bibles.

Seems the tacky-ass $399 gold sneakers didn’t rake in enough cash, so for the low, low price of $59.99, you can have a “ God Bless the USA Bible ,” the only one “officially endorsed by Donald Trump and Lee Greenwood.”

That would be Lee Greenwood, the spiritual leader and musical giant who brought you the immortal McDonalds breakfast song : “McDonalds and you, McDonalds and you/Fresh scrambled eggs, sausage, hotcakes, juice, and coffee too./Just like sunshine every morning, McDonalds and you!”

And, of course, the ubiquitous and bellicose anthem “God Bless the USA.”

Fun fact: Greenwood once tried to trademark the phrase “God Bless the USA” for, he said, “ accent pillows ; decorative centerpieces of wood” and “wall hangings.”

Move over, Old School Messiah: The money changers are now welcome in the temple and MAGA Jesus is all about profit and power — forget all that peace, love and understanding crap. “Christianity” now means white supremacy, misogyny, and xenophobia.

A ‘real scumbag’

Take Matt Gaetz, charitably described by one of his Republican colleagues as a “ real scumbag .”

Gaetz, the eminently punchable congressman from Florida’s First District, claims he’s a faithful Baptist, a Believer with a capital “B.”

The guy seems a couple of quarts low on the milk of human kindness, however.

temple visit days

Gaetz has made racist remarks about Florida legislators and says pro-choice women shouldn’t worry about abortion because they are fat, ugly spinsters no one wants to have sex with, anyway.

He does favor suffering the little children to come unto him as long as they’re 17, female, and cute.

The House Ethics Committee is still investigating him for this particular religious practice.

Another fine MAGA Christian, Sen. Josh Hawley, famously raised a fist in support of the Jan. 6 insurrectionists, then courageously hid from them as they rampaged through the Capitol.

temple visit days

Hawley has grandly quoted Patrick Henry saying, “ this great nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians ; not on religions, but on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. For this very reason, peoples of other faiths have been afforded asylum, prosperity, and freedom of worship here.”

Problem is, Patrick Henry never said that. It comes from a 1956 article in an anti-semitic, anti-Black magazine called The Virginian .

Demonstrating his brand of Christian humility, Hawley posted a “clarification” that was mostly snark aimed at the historians who called him out: “I’m told the libs are major triggered by the connection between the Bible and the American Founding.”

Hawley has a degree in history from Stanford.

Foolishness about the Founders

Ron DeSantis has a history degree from Yale. Yet he, too, has a troubled relationship with actual history.

He’s just signed a new law allowing taxpayer-supported schools to bring in chaplains. All these chaplains have to do is pass a background check — as if background checks catch every lunatic, pedophile, proselytizer, anti-vaxxer, and racist fruitcake likely to apply to “counsel” students.

temple visit days

DeSantis claims he’s “restoring the sense of purpose that our Founding Fathers wanted to see in education” and says that, back in George Washington’s day, “every school was a religious school. Public schools were religious schools.”

Perhaps he fell asleep in class: 1. There was no public education system then; 2. The Founding Fathers never put forth rules for public education, though some of them thought religion should be taught in schools while others, such as Thomas Jefferson, were adamantly opposed ; and 3. There was indeed prayer in schools until the Supreme Court figured out that was horrendously divisive, but public schools were not expressly religious.

To be fair, Massachusetts passed the Old Deluder Satan Act in 1647 (more than 100 years before the Declaration of Independence) which required towns to teach children to read.

They weren’t focused so much on Satan except if you couldn’t read the Bible and understand the Word of the Lord, you might end up in his clutches.

Ron DeSantis is, however, focused on Satan — or at least the Satanic Temple. He imagines all these chaplains will be Baptist preachers, a few Catholic priests, and a handful of rabbis.

But Florida, with its diverse population, may see Muslims, Hindus, Zoroastrians, and — inevitably! — ministers of the Satanic Temple who want to become chaplains.

Aryan tough-guy Jesus

DeSantis insists he will not allow those pagan monsters to get near your young’uns, insisting the Satanic Temple is “ not a religion ” and “not qualified to be able to participate in this.”

Newsflash: Satanism is a religion and the Satanic Temple is, in fact, a church, recognized by the IRS, so excluding its, er, ministers is unconstitutional.

DeSantis has a degree in law from Harvard.

But since when have Christo-white nationalists cared about the law? When have they cared about America’s cherished separation of church and state?

Fear and hatred make people accustomed to unchecked power do strange things.

MAGA adherents to Aryan tough-guy Jesus see America becoming less white and less Christian , so they’re freaking out, flailing around, breaking things — such as your right to control your own body, your right to read what you want, identify however you want, and love who you want.

I liked the old Jesus better.

Hundreds of Jews to fly Israeli flags on Temple Mount on Independence Day

S ome 500 Jews plan to fly Israeli flags atop the Temple Mount on Independence Day, the move's organizer, Beyadenu, announced Thursday.

Beyadenu is a non-profit organization that supports the realization and application of full Israeli sovereignty on the Temple Mount, full equal rights for Jews on there, and the restoration of the site back to its natural status as the heart of the Jewish nation.

The organization describes the holy site as "a place of ascension, a place of longing and aspiration, a central spiritual, religious, and national site where Jews can ascend freely, visit, and worship."

On Wednesday, a billboard was mounted on the northbound  Ayalon Highway in Tel Aviv announcing Beyadunu's intention that declared.

The sign read, "On Independence Day, we raise the flag on the Temple Mount."

Israeli Independence Day will begin the evening of May 13th and conclude the following evening.

Throughout Passover, a new record of Jewish visitors to the Temple Mount was broken, as over 4,000 people visited the site despite the limited number of days of the holiday compared to previous years.

Some Jewish visitors complained about how they were treated, saying they were not allowed to mutter prayer verses and were ordered to hurry and not to linger with explanations and stops on the Mount.

The police detained former MK Aryeh Eldad and Rabbi Aryeh Cohen after refusing to comply with illegal orders, according to Beyadenu.

Comments from Beyadenu

The CEO of Beyadenu, Tom Nisani, commented, "For anyone who had doubts until now, the conflict is not based solely on historical injustices due to the 'occupation' or the British government's policy 80 years ago. It is not a coincidence that many soldiers who arrived at houses in Gaza found the image of the Dome of the Rock engraved on the walls. It is certainly not a coincidence that the terrorist organization Hamas chose to call for a massacre during the celebration of Simchat Torah in the name of the Temple Mount. This is a religious-national conflict, and so far, the State of Israel has refused to address it and demonstrate true sovereignty on the Temple Mount.”

Nisani then added that it is unfortunate that the Waqf is the entity that manages the Waqf, something that “must be corrected.”

“So far, 500 ascendants have announced they will raise Israeli flags on the Mount on Independence Day," Nisani added. "This is the resolute response to terror. Those who involved themselves in battle with our enemies will prove on Independence Day that our national stature has only doubled."

The Jerusalem Post has reached out to the IDF for comment but has not yet received a response.

Top choice in The Urals

Perm-36 (officially known as the Memorial complex of political repressions), located some 125km east of Perm, was a labour camp for dissidents from 1946 to 1987. In 1994 it became a museum complex run by the international human rights organisation Memorial, which was founded by the dissident Andrey Sakharov. It's one of the only remaining gulags in Russia and today acts as a museum, with exhibitions about the camp as well as changing displays that don't relate directly to life in the gulag.

It's a haunting site, isolated and set deep in a landscape which in summer is verdant and filled with birdsong. Countless artists, scientists and intellectuals spent years in the cold, damp cells here, many in solitary confinement. They worked at mundane tasks such as assembling fasteners and survived on measly portions of bread and gruel.

It's worth hiring a guide for the day to learn about the regimes and history of the gulag – and to get you there and back. The gulag is located in the outskirts of the village of Kuchino, about 25km from the town of Chusovoy, which itself is 100km from Perm. You can take a bus bound for Chusovoy or Lysva, get off at Tyomnaya (R200, two hours) station, walk back to the main road and backtrack to the Kuchino turn-off (also leading to (Makhnutino), then walk another 2.5km to the village.

Video: President and Sister Oaks speak on the blessings of ‘Filling the Temples’

In this church news video, president and sister oaks testify of the need to fill temples, not just build temples.

A close-up of the statue of the angel Moroni atop the Urdaneta Philippines Temple, with the text “Filling the Temples” on screen.

“Returning to dedicate a temple is a wonderful thing,” President Dallin H. Oaks said in the days prior to dedicating the Urdaneta Philippines Temple .

President Oaks, first counselor in the First Presidency, and his wife, Sister Kristen M. Oaks , served in the Philippines 20 years ago when he was called to serve as the Philippines Area president for two years while still serving as an Apostle. He said that they focused a lot during those two years on teaching the importance of being worthy to enter the house of the Lord so that more temples could be built in the country.

In this Church News video, titled “ Filling the Temples ,” President and Sister Oaks testify of the need to fill temples, not just build temples.

With the construction of more temples around the world, President Oaks said that members of the Church should “be more diligent in teaching the doctrine of the Church, the temple covenants and worthiness.”

Sister Oaks added: “What a great protection the temples are to the world.”

‘Star Wars’ actor Mark Hamill drops by White House for a visit with ‘Joe-bi-Wan Kenobi’

WASHINGTON (AP) — “Star Wars” actor  Mark Hamill dropped by the White House  on Friday for a visit with President Joe Biden and walked away with a pair of the president’s aviator sunglasses and a greater respect for the office.

“I love the merch,” he said, taking off the glasses during a quick appearance at the White House daily press briefing following his visit with Biden. Hamill, 72, famous for playing Luke Skywalker, kidded with reporters that he’d take a few questions — as long as they weren’t about “Star Wars.”

“I was honored to be asked to come to the White House to meet the president,” he said. He’s been to the White House before, during the Carter and Obama administrations, but he’d never checked out the Oval Office, and that was quite something, he said. Biden showed off photographs and other Oval Office items, Hamill said.

Hamill said Biden told him to call him “Joe,” to which Hamill offered an alternative suggestion: “Can I call you Joe-bi-Wan Kenobi?”

“He liked that,” said Hamill, who also voiced the Joker in “Batman: The Animated Series.”

Both Hamill and the White House were vague about his reason for visiting. But Hamill, a Democrat and Biden supporter with a huge social media following, has been posting about the president’s reelection campaign this week.

“May The First Not Quench Your Thirst For Biden’s Re-election!” he wrote on May 1.

On Friday he posted, “May The Third Be Absurd That The Guy Who Tried To Steal A Fair Election Is Allowed To Run Again,” a reference to Donald Trump and his efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election.

May 4th is unofficially “Star Wars” Day, in part because of the famous Jedi phrase “May the force be with you.” The pun goes, “May the fourth be with you.”

Hamill also lent his voice to “Air Alert” — a downloadable app linked to Ukraine’s air defense system. His voice urges people to take cover whenever Russia unleashes another aerial bombardment on Ukraine.
