How we identify diversions

We identify alternative traffic routes and diversions where possible. These routes must be suitable for the class of road that is being closed. For example A class routes must be diverted on to other A roads and B class routes must be diverted on to A or B roads. This is to make sure that the routes are suitable for all traffic including HGVs and buses.

Don't follow satellite navigation unless you are certain that the route you are being directed on is appropriate. You should follow the signed diversion route. And remember that though the road may have a national speed limit, you must drive according to conditions, particularly if it is a single track road. Make sure you allow a suitable stopping distance, use passing places and don't drive on the verge.

Roadworks with traffic lights

Roadworks carried out under traffic lights may be subject to a road closure. This is for the safety of both members of the public and the operatives on site. Heavy plant and operatives will be moving around the site and require space to work, so please be aware and do not exceed the speed limit. Delays may be necessary to carry out some aspects of the work to ensure the safety of personnel and public.

Why we close roads

Where possible we try to keep roads open to minimise disruption to the travelling public. However on occasions, roads have to be closed. This is usually when they aren't wide enough or when it is unsafe for both vehicles and operatives to occupy the same section of the road.

Access to properties will be maintained but you may experience delays until a stage of the works is complete to allow machinery and operatives to be moved to provide you with a safe route through. We would ask you for your patience and understanding as your and the operatives safety is paramount. Please phone 0345 608 1205 and ask for the roads office in your area or speak to the site foreman for advice. We will do our best to accommodate your request.

Congestion Pricing Will Start on June 30 in New York City, M.T.A. Says

Transit officials announced the start of the program, which they have said will ease some of the nation’s worst traffic.

A multi-lane street filled with vehicles.

By Ana Ley and Winnie Hu

The first comprehensive congestion-pricing program in a major U.S. city will begin in New York on June 30, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority announced on Friday.

The plan remains contentious, however, and with months to go before its scheduled rollout, legal and political clashes could still dilute or stop it altogether. A growing number of opponents — including Gov. Philip D. Murphy of New Jersey, influential unions and some elected New York officials — recently ratcheted up their effort to block it.

The program is meant to ease some of the worst traffic in the nation, improve the city’s air quality, increase mass transit ridership and raise money to modernize the city’s subway, bus and commuter rail system. Congestion-pricing tolls are expected to generate $1 billion a year, with the revenue earmarked by law for capital projects, not operating costs.

The authority, which operates the mass transit system, also said on Friday that it had opened a portal for applicants seeking the program’s coveted discounts and exemptions. A website will guide drivers on who qualifies and how to apply.

Under the program, most passenger cars will be charged $15 a day to enter a so-called congestion zone below 60th Street in Manhattan. Trucks would pay $24 or $36, depending on their size. Taxi fares would increase by $1.25, and Uber and Lyft fares would rise by $2.50.

The program is widely unpopular by many measures. A survey of about 800 New Yorkers conducted this month by Siena College found that 63 percent opposed it. Still, out of more than 25,000 public comments about congestion pricing submitted to the transportation authority from late December to mid-March, roughly 60 percent expressed support, the authority said.

M.T.A. and federal transportation officials are defending it against six lawsuits in federal courts in New York and New Jersey that seek to halt the plan. The courts, which are expected to rule before the program starts, could possibly delay or block it.

“They are proceeding at their own risk in arrogant disregard of pending court cases,” said Jack L. Lester, a lawyer for a group of city residents who filed one of the suits.

This month, a federal judge in Newark heard arguments in a suit brought by New Jersey officials who argue that the congestion-pricing plan would shift traffic and pollution to some communities in the state as drivers try to avoid the tolls.

“We are awaiting a court ruling as early as next month on whether the M.T.A.’s unprecedented congestion-pricing scheme can go forward,” said Randy Mastro, a lawyer for the state of New Jersey, adding that “the jury is still out on this hugely flawed plan.”

The tolling rates, which the authority’s board approved last month , are still being reviewed by the Federal Highway Administration, which has already signed off on an exhaustive study of the program and is expected to approve the tolls.

Congestion pricing is expected to lower the number of vehicles coming into the zone by about 17 percent, according to a November report by an authority advisory committee. The report also said the program would reduce the total number of miles driven by motorists in 28 counties in the metropolitan region.

The fees are also supposed to discourage drivers from jamming roads and idling in gridlock, which contributes to soot and other harmful air pollutants. But some of the program’s harshest critics have pointed to evidence that certain neighborhoods could end up with dirtier air as a result of the traffic that is diverted. In response, the authority has vowed to work to diminish such potential harm .

Other cities that have adopted congestion-pricing programs, such as London, Singapore and Stockholm , have reported sharp drops in traffic and congestion.

David I. Weprin, a Democratic state assemblyman from Queens and a longtime congestion-pricing opponent, said of the plan that the authority was “trying to aggressively ram it down the public’s throat.”

“I don’t think the public wants it and I think it’s really unfair for people who have to drive and have no choice,” Mr. Weprin said. He has joined a lawsuit filed by Vito Fossella, a Republican and Staten Island’s borough president, and the United Federation of Teachers that seeks to keep the tolling plan from proceeding.

Danny Pearlstein, a spokesman for the Riders Alliance, an advocacy group, said in a statement that the start of the program “cannot happen soon enough.”

Congestion pricing, he said, “will be a win-win-win for all New Yorkers, commuters and visitors and will bring better public transit, cleaner air, and freer moving traffic.”

Gisele bündchen receives major support from florida mayor after traffic stop, gisele bündchen florida mayor backs model over officer ... in traffic stop dust up.

Gisele Bündchen is getting major support from a Florida mayor who blasted a police officer for his "wholly unacceptable" interaction with the model during a traffic stop this week.

Surfside Mayor Charles Burkett sent a letter to the town's interim Police Chief Henry Doce , detailing his dismay over the way one officer treated Gisele.

The cop pulled over Gisele for driving erratically while she tried to elude paparazzi who were following her. During their brief chat, Gisele explained why she was swerving and broke down in tears as the officer let her off with a warning.

But in his letter, Burkett wrote that he was "dismayed" to watch the publicly released body cam footage of the traffic stop, showing Gisele in tears as the officer addressed her.

The mayor also noted Gisele was upset and frightened by the photogs stalking her, but the officer's "dismissive posture" was "everything we do not want to see in the way our police interact and serve our residents.”

Burkett summed it up by saying the officer should have displayed "more empathy" and could have done a better job, even though he's considered a good cop within the community.

As for Chief Hoce, he has not indicated whether he will take disciplinary action against the officer.

Transportation | Overnight alternating traffic at I-70 Eisenhower-Johnson Memorial Tunnel begins late April

Tunnel projects and maintenance require lane closures throughout the spring and summer.

A photo of a woman named Julianna O'Clair

Overnight alternating traffic at the Interstate 70 Eisenhower-Johnson Memorial Tunnel begins in late April, according to a news release from the Colorado Department of Transportation.

Ongoing tunnel projects and maintenance work, including improvements to drainage and signage and security, require lane closures in the tunnel throughout the spring and summer. These closures were suspended over the winter and will resume with consistent warmer weather.

Lane closures will begin overnight on April 28. A single lane will be closed in the westbound bore of the tunnel from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Periods of full overnight closures of the westbound bore will begin April 29. Alternating traffic will use the eastbound bore April 29 to May 2, May 5 to 9 and May 12 to 16 from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., the release states.

Both directions of I-70 traffic will stop at the tunnel entrance while one direction of travel is escorted through the open bore. Traffic stops will last for 20 minutes and delays will be minimal, according to the CDOT.

During the May closures, maintenance crews will wash the tunnel walls, clean the drains and sweep the pavement. More work will require overnight single lane and full bore closures with alternating traffic over the summer. According to the CDOT, work will take place Sunday through Thursday nights with no planned closures on weekends or holidays.

Florida mayor slams cop's 'dismissive' treatment of Gisele Bündchen after she cried over paparazzi during a traffic stop

  •  Gisele Bündchen became emotional during a traffic stop in Surfside, Florida, this week.
  • Bündchen told a police officer she was trying to evade the paparazzi "stalking" her.
  • The Mayor of Surfside called out the cop's "dismissive" response, which he called "unacceptable."

Insider Today

A Florida mayor has criticized a police officer who pulled over Gisele Bündchen for a traffic stop, calling the behavior toward the supermodel "unacceptable."

Bodycam footage captured the interaction between the police officer and Bündchen, 45, in Surfside — a town about 30 minutes from Miami Beach — on Wednesday. Footage obtained by Fox News Digital showed Bündchen telling the officer she was attempting to escape the paparazzi following her.

The police officer acknowledged her situation but said there was "nothing" he could do about it.

"Yeah, but he's, like, stalking me," Bündchen said.

The police officer then told Bündchen she'd need to contact the Miami Beach Police Department since that's when the paparazzi began following her. After the police officer apologized, Bündchen broke down into tears.

"I'm so tired," she said. "Everywhere I go I have these fucking guys after me. Nothing protects me. I can't do nothing. I just want to live my life."

The police officer responded that he couldn't stop the paparazzi from doing their job, which is to take photographs.

Related stories

"I don't know how that's allowed," she said.

Now, Mayor Charles Burkett has lambasted the police officer in a letter addressed to Surfside Police Department's Chief of Police, according to WPLG .

"This response is wholly unacceptable and not reflective of the values, judgement and service residents expect from their police," Burkett wrote. "The dismissive posture towards a resident who is clearly in distress is everything we do not want to see in the way our police interact and serve our residents."

Interim Police Chief Henry Doce echoed Mayor Burkett's sentiments in a statement to the outlet.

"I would have liked to have seen more empathy at the initial contact to what was going on," Doce said.

Still, Doce added that the police officer is "phenomenal."

"Could we have done better? I think it's a learning opportunity to understand what the dynamics of that situation is," Doce told WPLG.

Representatives for Bündchen and Burkett did not immediately respond to Business Insider's request for comment. The Surfside Police Department declined to provide additional comments.

Bündchen moved to Florida in 2020 after her former husband, Tom Brady, joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers . Bündchen and Brady announced their divorce in October 2022 after getting married in February 2009.

The pair share two children — Benjamin and Vivian — and Brady has a son named John from a previous relationship.

Traffic light planned at historic Blackman crossroads

Future traffic signal near planned blackman park.

  • Intersection is short drive from future Poplar Hill Elementary scheduled to open by August 2025
  • City has long-term plans to extend Blackman Road to future interchange with I-24 northeast of Poplar Hill Elementary

Murfreesboro officials expect to build a traffic signal for fast-growing westside at Blackman Road and Manson Pike/Burnt Knob Road.

"A lot of development has happened in the area," said Chris Griffith, a civil engineer who serves as the executive director of public infrastructure for the Murfreesboro government.

The Murfreesboro City Council recently responded to Griffith's recommendation to award a $413,500 professional services contract with Kimley Horn Inc. to design needed improvements to the intersection that currently has a four-way stop in what is also known as the historic Blackman community. Once the design work is done, the road construction project will take about two years to complete, Griffith said.

Murfreesboro officials are monitoring the westside's fast growth of housing and schools west of Interstate 24 , Griffith told the council. This includes the Shelton Square subdivision with plans for 771 homes once completed off Blackman Road.

The intersection is near the Interstate 840 interchange at the five-lane Veterans Parkway with development that includes the Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford Westlawn neighborhood hospital. The Blackman Road and Burnt Road southwest corner also has Middle Tennessee Electric land available for corporate office development .

Crews break ground for Blackman school: 'Breathtakingly beautiful piece of property'

The intersection that will gain a traffic signal is a short drive from where Rutherford County is building Poplar Hill Elementary scheduled to open by August 2025 on Baker Road near Blackman Road. The future $59.9 million campus is on property that used to be part of the John L. Batey historic family farm that dates back to 1807.

The Rutherford County Board of Education also has plans to build a yet-funded $71 million middle school by August 2026 that will be on the former Batey farmland and adjacent to Poplar Hill Elementary. The board purchased 61.4 acres and Batey's former now torn-down home for $5.2 million.

The road improvement plans for the board's construction contract includes left and right turn lanes at two entrances on Baker Road and one entrance on Blackman Road, said Greg Brooks, the Rutherford County Highway superintendent.

The intersection is also a short drive from where crews are building Rutherford Collegiate Prep , a public charter school expected to open by this August next to adjacent Blackman United Methodist Church. Charter schools operate with tax dollars and are independent of the elected school board and administration..

The Blackman Road intersection at Manson Pike, which used to be known as Wilkinson Pike, is the historic crossroads of the Blackman community that dates back to the Blackman brothers arriving in 1808 to farm land grants their father earned for military service from the nation during the Revolutionary War. The crossroads area included a blacksmith shop, the former Blackman store and a scale house to weigh agricultural products, said Batey, a direct descendent of one of the Blackman brothers.

Preserving farmland: New Murfreesboro road plans spare historic Batey farm

The traffic signal project could cost in the $6 million to $7 million range, Griffith said. The traffic signal part will be in the $200,000 to $300,000 range, and the rest will involve right of way purchases and road improvements that would include added lanes stretching 500 feet each way, he said.

Long-term, the city expects to widen Manson Pike and portions of Blackman and Burnt Knob roads to five lanes, Griffith confirmed.

The city also has long-term plans to extend Blackman Road to a proposed I-24 interchange northeast of the nearby Poplar Hill Elementary.

Another long-term plan involves extending the five-lane Veterans Parkway from Burnt Knob Road to Baker Road by the westside of Batey's remaining 347-acre historic farm.

Blackman Road intersection with Manson Pike/Burnt Knob Road is also a short drive from where the city plans to build Blackman Park with a playground, walking trails and picnic pavilions off Veterans Parkway.

Existing westside recreation at this time that includes two pickleball courts, a basketball court, a playground and picnic pavilion is provided by the Blackman Community Club on Manson Pike.

The city's future park property also has land saved for a future Murfreesboro elementary school.

On Friday afternoon, based on a Freedom of Information Law request, the Webster Police Department released video from the body-worn camera of the officer, Cameron Crisafulli, and of other officers who responded to the scene.

It shows a highly tense exchange with Doorley refusing to follow Officer Crisafulli’s commands and cursing at him while wandering in and out of the garage of her home and at one point entering her home on Fallen Leaf Terrace in Webster, where the stop ended.

After Doorley swears at Crisafulli, he says, “I don’t know why you’re acting like this toward me,” pointing out that she should have stopped on Phillips Road, where the officer, with his emergency lights activated, tried to pull her over after clocking her going 55 mph in a 35 mph zone around 5:30 p.m.

Instead of stopping, Doorley continued on to her residence about half a mile away in a subdivision off Phillips Road because, she told Craig, there was less traffic there.

In the footage, when Crisafulli asks her why she didn't pull over, she says, sounding exasperated, “Because I didn't feel like stopping on Phillips Road at 5:30.”

She told Craig that she called Webster Police Chief Dennis Kohlmeier from her car with Crisafulli behind her.

She said she wanted the chief to tell the officer who she was so he would know there was no possible danger to him after the stop since she did not stop immediately.

During her heated conversation with Crisafulli captured on video, she calls Kohlmeier again and says, “Can you please tell him to leave me alone?”

At one point, Doorley asks Crisafulli how she would have known he was trying to pull her over and not someone else.

Because, he says, “I was right behind you.”

As the argument continues, he asks, “What is it that you’re so against what I’m doing? I’m doing my job. You say you’re a DA?”

She replies, “I’m the DA … I’m the DA of Monroe County.”

“I understand that,” says Crisafulli, who eventually calls for a supervisor to the scene. “But that doesn’t give you the right to go 55 in a 35.”

Doorley asks Crisafulli if he knows what she has been dealing with all day and then tells him: three homicides in the city of Rochester.

She asks, “Do you think I really care if I was going 20 miles over the speed limit?”

At the end of the 26-minute video from Crisafulli's body-cam, Doorley, visibly more calm, accepts the traffic ticket.

In a statement issued Thursday, she wrote: “By 1:00PM (Tuesday), I pled guilty and sent the ticket to the Webster Town Court because I believe in accepting responsibility for my actions and had no intention of using my position to receive a benefit. Nobody, including your District Attorney, is above the rule of law, even traffic laws.”
