We highly recommend that you explore beyond Siem Reap and the Angkor Temples. Getting from Siem Reap to Phnom Pehn, in Cambodia , is pretty easy and straightforward!

Getting around Cambodia does not have to be challenging or scary!

If you are wondering how to get from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh or vice versa from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap ( in a safe and convenient way ), then you have a fabulous guide for you!

Other Cambodia transport guides: Siem Reap Airport to Town (or vice versa) and Siem Reap to Sihanoukville/Koh Rong.

If you want to get from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh (or vice versa), you have several modes of transport options to choose from bus, plane, boat, taxi, and mini-bus.

As we were traveling with young kids, not even to mention that on this trip I was 22 weeks pregnant as well, so we were after something cost-effective, quick, and as pain-free as we could find.

How to get from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh

Normally I’m a great advocate for ground-level travel as it allows you to see so much more of the country whilst also getting you from point A to B, but as parents, we also knew that expecting our kids to enjoy a bumpy 6-hour bus trip might also just be too big of an ask.

Never mind expecting the kids or this pregnant lady to wait for the halfway stop on the 6-hour journey, before being allowed a toilet break!

So we bought plane tickets for a 45-minute flight from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh instead.  Easy-peasy!

Currently, there are  three different airlines offering low-cost flights from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh .

How to get from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap

Whilst the cost of the tickets is low (in our opinion), it is also the most expensive way of getting from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh, but also by far the quickest ( 45 min flights ). Both domestic airports are pretty small.

I think we went through the whole check-in and baggage scan process in about 10 min at Siem Reap.

Phnom Penh airport was definitely busier, but I think we were out in about 30 min. Very smooth, with no hassles.

1. Cambodia Angkor Air

Siem Reap to Phnom Penh by Plane

We chose to fly with   Cambodia Angkor Air .

This airline has the best reputation  out of the three airlines you get to choose from, the reviews I read all mentioned that it is the safest flight option as well.

We had a really smooth flying experience.  No complaints, plane was on time, no issues at all.

Tickets can be purchased online :   Average prices are  US$49 (flight) + US$20.90 (taxes) and this includes booked baggage of 20kg.

You should have a choice between 3 – 6 flight times to choose from, depending on your day of travel.

2. Cambodia Bayon Airlines

Another airline is available and is worth checking out to see how it compares to Angkor Air.

It could be hard to find a direct flight on this one and as we didn’t fly with this brand, I can’t comment on the quality of the flight.

Search for flights on Bayon Airline .  Booking only opens up round about 6 weeks prior to your flight date, so no need to be super organised here.

Flight time is typically around 2h 05m, so you save more than an hour by grabbing tickets on Angkor Air instead.

Bus from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh

Bus Icon

JOURNEY TIME: 6.5 hours+

COST INVOLVED: US $16+

Another option for travel is to grab tickets for the Siem Reap to Phnom Penh bus.

Whilst we did not use the bus services on this trip, we did give bus travel a tester on a journey from Phnom Penh to Kep later in our holiday.

1. Giant Ibis

If you wish to travel from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh, you can expect a journey time of around 5.5-7 hours.

The recommended bus option for this journey of 6.5 hours is definitely Giant Ibis .

They are the newest company and base their travels around safety rather than just racing at a ridiculous speed to get from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh.

Giant Ibis runs both day buses as well as night buses  and their journeys include a stop for toilet breaks and food as well.

This bus company offers comfortable reclining seats with seat belts and power outlets to keep your electronics charged up.

They widely advertise their WiFi services, however we have seen way to many complaints about WiFi not being available for that claim to be reliable.

  • Day bus options: Siem Reap – Phnom Penh | 07:45am | 08:45am | 12:30pm   ( Complimentary pickup if you are staying at one of their partner hotels )
  • Night bus from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh options:   Siem Reap – Phnom Penh Night | 10:30pm | 11:00pm | 11:30pm ( No Complimentary pickup from hotel offered )

Costs: US$15 (Ticket) + US$1  (Transaction Fees if bought online)

Where to purchase tickets:   You can purchase tickets easily from any tour company around the city, and your hotel will be able to help you out with organizing tickets too.

We just bought our tickets online , that way we could choose our own seats. It was an easy straightforward process.

There are of course loads of other types of bus companies to choose from as well, some that offer tickets from as low as only US$9.  You can scout out more options and schedules here – Baolau.com

Siem Reap to Phnom Penh by Mini-Bus

JOURNEY TIME: 5 hours+

COST INVOLVED: US $11+

Mini-buses are convenient as they travel faster than large coach-style buses.

They cut the trip short by at least 30 min as they generally  take 5-6 hours  to get from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh or vice versa. There are loads of companies to choose from here.

Seila Angkor is a popular choice,  although probably the more expensive out of those on offer.

Tickets  will set you back around  US$11-13 per person.  You can book them  here .

However, it might be worth your while to have a look at various other options available on the  BookMeBus.com site.

Siem Reap to Phnom Penh by Taxi and Van-Taxi

Taxi Icon

JOURNEY TIME: 5.5 hours+

Choosing to make the journey by taxi will cut down on your time on the road.

They typically get you from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh in about  5.5 hours , of course, that means that they drive at a faster speed than the buses.

Siem Reap to Phnom Penh by Taxi

A taxi (can fit 4 passengers) costs around $70 – $85 for the journey . Do make sure you arrange a set price before you hop into your taxi!

Van taxis (can sit up to 15 passengers)  are more suitable for families or those with more baggage.

Don’t assume that they all have seat belts, so do inquire if this is important to you.

They  cost around $115 – $180 , so best to negotiate your price before you leave.

Siem Reap to Phnom Penh by Boat

Boat Icon

JOURNEY TIME: 4 hours+

COST INVOLVED: US $25+

Click here to check prices for the boat

During the dry season (when we were there), the boat from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh are not in operation as the water level is too low.

If you are traveling between July – March  you can look into the option of getting from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh by boat.

From what I have read about the state of the boat and the length of the journey I’m not sure I would recommend this choice of travel, but I will leave you to make up your own mind.

Ferries depart Siem Reap daily at 7am  from the dock at Chong Khneas.  Tickets are $25-$38  for the 251km journey that lasts around  4-6 hours .

These boats are geared towards the locals rather than tourists, so expect them to be run-down with no life jackets, you may or may not have access to a seat and from what I’ve heard they tend to break down a bit too.

A great local experience plus some great sights of local Cambodian life around the lake. However, if you choose to travel on this boat trip from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh – good luck to you haha!

Hello. I wanted to book Mekong, for which you show a photo in the article … as I like the big bus and they had some timing more suitable for me … but I could not complete my booking on their website. I did some research, it seems they don’t offer the service anymore or even no longer exist, not sure 100% but it appears so

The companies with schedules posted are the ones that are currently running…Mekong isn’t one of them.

Eric, do you mean Mey Hong buses? They are currently running between SR and PP, and I highly recommend them. Same type of bus as Giant Ibis, good driving, etc. You can book them on Bookmebus.com.

Siem Reap vs Phnom Penh: The ULTIMATE Decision

Deciding between Siem Reap vs Phnom Penh is the ultimate battle of Cambodian cities.

Both are walkable, filled with delicious street eats, cheap places to stay and of course: incredible Buddhist relics. It’s certainly feasible to visit both while backpacking Cambodia. But perhaps you’re short on time, or aren’t quite sure you want to see two metropolises.

While Siem Reap is a lush, compact hot spot known for the world famous Angkor Wat, Phnom Penh is more of a concrete jungle albeit with some fantastic (and harrowing) historical sites, French architecture, delicious food, and even a whole lot of “happy” restaurants if you know what I mean 😉

So which one to pick?

Well that depends on your travel style, and what you’re looking to get out of your Cambodian adventure.

To help you make the right choice, let’s dive right into absolutely EVERYTHING there is know about Siem Reap vs Phnom Penh travel , from food options, places to stay, ease of exploring, and more!

Siem Reap vs Phnom Penh

Is siem reap or phnom penh better, visiting siem reap and phnom penh, faqs about siem reap vs phnom penh, final thoughts.

While Siem Reap is a small, green city that most people visit for the famous Angkor Wat, Phnom Penh is Cambodia’s largest metro and capital. Which one you’ll prefer for your Southeast Asia adventure depends a lot on your travel style and what you’re looking for.

travel between siem reap and phnom penh

  • Size : Siem Reap is a relatively small city, and it’s easy to get around by a combination of walking + tuk tuks. In total, Siem Reap has a small population of 245,494 people as of 2019.
  • What it’s famous for : Angkor Wat of course! The UNESCO World Heritage Site is a massive temple complex dating back to the Khmer Empire of the 12th Century. Pub Street is another popular place to visit in Siem Reap , but overall, it doesn’t have as many attractions as Phnom Penh.
  • Ease of getting there : You can easily fly to Siem Reap from Phnom Penh or other cities in Southeast Asia, and buses are also an option as well. Don’t count on easy international connections, though.
  • How to get around : Tuk tuks are the easiest way to get around the city, though you can also walk in and around many areas.
  • Types of accommodations : Don’t stress about where to stay in Siem Reap . Everything from backpacker hostels to boutique hotels can be found in the city. I scored an incredible hotel near Angkor Wat for $10 thanks to an online deal.

phnom penh itinerary

  • Size: When it comes to population size, it’s certainly not close between Siem Reap and Phnom Penh . Cambodia’s capital has roughly 2.28 million residents as of 2019. That’s more than 10x Siem Reap’s–so be prepared for a whole lot of people!
  • What it’s famous for: Phnom Penh sits alongside the lovely Mekong, and is renowned for its ancient Buddhist temples and dark tourism sites like the Killing Fields and the S-23 Prison. The city also has some pretty poppin’ nightlife. You can also add a cheeky stop at a happy pizza restaurant to your Phnom Penh itinerary .
  • Ease of getting there:  If ease of travel was the only factor in choosing between these two cities, PP wins by a long shot. After all, it is the capital, and thus much better connected to international air routes.
  • How to get around: Like Siem Reap, the best way to get around Phnom Penh is by tuk tuk. The only major difference here is that prices are more expensive because distances between attractions are farther apart.
  • Types of accommodations: Phnom Penh is well-stocked with all kinds of accommodations. Hostels, guesthouses, and hotels are all about the city, though I’d definitely have to crown Siem Reap as the better choice when it comes to cheap and cute places to stay .

A loaded question but that’s why you’re here no?

Deciding whether to visit Siem Reap or Phnom Penh (or both!) will determine the direction your Cambodian adventure will take. Romantic getaways, weekend trips, budget travel, and more: these are the cut-and-dry differences between the two cities.

For Things to Do

Having visited both cities myself, Phnom Penh is the clear winner here.

Being a larger city, there are simply more things to do. While a Siem Reap itinerary will be fully centered around Angkor Wat (and Pub Street), Phnom Penh has way more for travelers to get into.

Both will appeal to historians, but Siem Reap might be the winner for travelers looking for a compact metro that makes navigation easy. It’s walkable, and distances to pretty much anywhere are short and sweet. On the other hand, once you’ve experienced Angkor Wat, there’s not much else to do in Siem Reap.

But those with kids will definitely prefer Siem Reap–you can even opt to cycle around the famous temple complex!

when to visit siem reap

Meanwhile, if you’re kid-free and into dark tourism (or recent history) should absolutely hit up Phnom Penh–it has two harrowing sites that expose one of the greatest catastrophes that most have never heard of.

Phnom Penh has numerous historical attractions and markets, all of which are quite far from each other. The populated metro is ideal for those looking to stay busy with all kinds of activities and will give you a more insightful look into typical Cambodian city life.

While Siem Reap can often feel a bit touristy (trust me–Angkor Wat gets PACKED), Phnom Penh has a bit more of an off-the-beaten-path feel to it. While you can meet fellow travelers in both cities, Siem Reap certainly has a more backpacker vibe to it if that’s what you’re looking for.

Winner : Phnom Penh

For Budget Travelers

Regardless of whether you choose to visit Siem Reap or Phnom Penh , you can rest assured that you’re in for a very budget-friendly trip .

Both cities are popular with backpackers, and you’ll have no problem finding cheap accommodation, transport, and activities in each. Even so, Phnom Penh is slightly cheaper for hard-core budget travelers.

Being a major city compared to Siem Reap, Phnom Penh hostels and other accommodations tend to be a bit cheaper, and the same goes for food and transport.

That doesn’t mean that Siem Reap is expensive though–I found an incredible deal during my time in the city and there are plenty of places to stay for $10 or less per night . But thanks to Angkor Wat’s immense international popularity, you’ll see more of a luxury scene in the small Northern Cambodian city than in the capital.

Phnom Penh also has more local markets and nightlife options than Siem Reap, though fantastic street food can be easily found in both metros.

Budget guesthouses and Airbnbs can definitely be found in Cambodia’s capital, but this social hostel is the absolute cheapest place to stay in the city.

The pod-style dorms feature queen-sized beds with premium privacy and a lively bar with a super social atmosphere. The best part is this Phnom Penh hostel is just steps away from the city’s top attractions, and plenty of delicious street food spots fill the surrounding streets.

For Couples

Deciding between Siem Reap and Phnom Penh travel might be difficult for backpackers or foodies, but for traveling couples , I think Siem Reap is the clear winner. The small, intimate city is filled with greenery and has much more romantic stay options than the massive concrete jungle that is Phnom Penh.

Think boutique hotels with pools, luxury resorts, and other types of trendy accommodations that will appeal to couples looking for seclusion and privacy.

travel between siem reap and phnom penh

Angkor Wat alone is enough to make this a winner for couples, especially those that love ancient history. It’s the perfect place to spend a day or two exploring with your significant other. In fact, Siem Reap (and therefore Angkor Wat) is the main attraction for most couples visiting Cambodia.

That doesn’t mean that traveling couples won’t enjoy Phnom Penh though–backpackers who prefer to stay in hostels and get off the beaten path might deem Cambodia’s capital the winner of this head-to-head!

Winner : Siem Reap

This vibrant guesthouse is a budget-friendly hostel for couples to stay in Siem Reap. Sit back and relax by the pastel-outfitted poolside and enjoy a large, spacious room complete with a colorful mural. There’s also a bar and game room, plus you’ll be super close to both Pub Street and Angkor Wat!

Where to Stay in Phnom Penh: Queen Mansion

Another fab stay with a pool, the Queen’s Mansion is close to Phnom Penh’s famous Russian Market and has some truly incredible sunsets to be seen from the rooftop pool area. The hotel also features a fitness room and incredible views of the entire city. You’ll also get to start each day with a free continental breakfast.

For Getting Around

When deciding to visit Siem Reap or Phnom Penh , you’re obviously going to want to take transportation into account. Luckily, both cities are fairly easy to get around thanks to the classic Cambodian motorbike which is officially called a “remork.” You can also find motorbike taxis and regular taxis in both cities, though the remork is always going to be your best bet.

Neither city has metro rails or anything of the sort, but that’s where the transportation similarities end.

travel between siem reap and phnom penh

Siem Reap is quite walkable, and distances between destinations should only take a few minutes. The capital on the other hand is MUCH bigger, so naturally, you’ll have to deal with longer rides and a whole lot more traffic.

Do consider that many of Phnom Penh’s top attractions are quite…far. Case in point: to visit the Killing Fields, you’ll need to prepare for at least an hour trip each way whereas Angkor Wat in Siem Reap is no more than a few minutes’ drive from virtually any accommodation.

For a Weekend Trip

If you don’t have much time to spare, you’re going to want (and need) a small city that’s easy to navigate. By this point, you shouldn’t be surprised that the answer to a Cambodian weekend is none other than Siem Reap.

Spend one (or two) days wandering around Angkor Wat before topping off your night at Pub Street. Thanks to short distances, even two days is enough to see the best of Siem Reap. While you can spend a weekend perusing Phnom Penh, it will be significantly harder to cover all top attractions in such a short amount of time.

So basically–if time is of the essence, it’s a no-brainer that Siem Reap is the better city to visit.

For a Week-Long Trip

If you’re planning a week in a Cambodian city and trying to decide between Siem Reap or Phnom Penh, the best choice is pretty clear. That’s because the bottom line is that unless you’re planning to live the digital nomad lifestyle , Siem Reap will get hella’ boring after more than a few days.

travel between siem reap and phnom penh

The small city has limited attractions and restaurants, and is best suited for travelers who want to slow down rather than stay busy for a week.

Meanwhile, Phnom Penh has MORE than enough to entertain travelers for a week and then some. Aside from its top things to do, there are plenty of feasible day trips nearby, and enough unique neighborhoods and eateries to keep each day unique and interesting.

Are you a long-term traveler planning a massive Cambodia trip ? Well then you’re in luck–thanks to the country’s small size and ease of transport, it’s more than possible to visit Siem Reap AND Phnom Penh!

I visited both cities myself while backpacking the country and it simply could not be easier. Siem Reap is located in the north of the country while Phnom Penh is smack dab in the middle–all separated by a 5.5-hour bus ride.

travel between siem reap and phnom penh

You’ll have a variety of transportation options to choose from, ranging from the brokest of backpacker local vans to comfortable AC coaches that recline. Personally, I recommend the Giant Ibis for its convenience and legroom.

Although overlanding>flying, 1-hour flights between the two cities do depart daily. Just expect to pay way more than you would for the bus!

Overall, traveling to both Siem Reap and Phnom Penh couldn’t be easier, and you shouldn’t even need more than a week to do it.

Phnom Penh to SIem Reap: Transportation Guide

Most travelers to Cambodia begin their trip in the capital city of Phnom Penh . Probably best known for the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (housed in the former S21 Prison) and the Choeung Ek Genocidal Center (also known as The Killing Fields ), Phnom Penh has a long and tumultuous history. But these days it is actually one of Southeast Asia’s fastest-evolving cities with trendy microbars and health food cafes springing up just blocks away from traditional markets and ancient temples.

After spending a few days exploring Phnom Penh, you’re likely heading north to Siem Reap and the famous temples of Angkor Wat . Siem Reap is quieter and easier to navigate than the hectic Phnom Penh. But with over 2.6 million tourists annually, there is no shortage of things to do in Siem Reap .

The distance between Phnom Penh and Siem Reap is just ~200 miles (318 km). And to get to Siem Reap from Phnom Penh, you have several transportation options to fit every travel style and budget. Of course, the most convenient way to travel to Siem Reap is to fly, which takes just under an hour (plus an extra hour of drive time due to the recent airport relocation). But if you are looking to save some money, you might be better off taking a bus or minibus.

You can also arrange a private car, which can get you to Siem Reap in just five hours and allows you the flexibility to stop along the way. Or if you happen to be in Cambodia during the rainy season, and you’re up for a real adventure, there is even a connection by boat.

In this article, we will discuss all the best ways to get from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap so you can choose the transportation option that is perfect for you!

The Best Way to Get from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap

Flights from phnom penh to siem reap.

How to Get from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap (Angkor Wat): Airplane - Cambodia Angkor Air

Duration : Less than 1 hour (plus ~1 hour of drive time into town) Cost : $50.00+ per person

Previously, the most convenient way to get from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap was by airplane. A flight between the two cities takes less than an hour (plus, of course, the time spent checking into your flight at the airport). However, in 2023 the Siem Reap International Airport was moved about 50 kilometers out of the city. Meaning you’ll need to add about an hour of drive time to get from the airport.

While flying is the fastest method to travel, it is also the most expensive. Airline tickets are usually between $50 to $150 for a one-way flight. Cambodia Airways and Cambodia Angkor Air both offer daily direct flights between Siem Reap and Phnom Penh. Between the two, we prefer Cambodia Angkor Air for its comfort and timeliness.

Our favorite flight comparison search engine is Skyscanner . You can check available schedules and find the cheapest flights from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap. Keep in mind that Cambodian domestic flights can be somewhat unreliable and flights are often delayed. Morning flights are typically more punctual than afternoon flights.

Check Flight Prices on Skyscanner

Phnom Penh International Airport (airport code PHN) is located only about 6 miles (10 km) from the Phnom Penh city center.

The most convenient way to get to the airport is by using a ride-share service like Grab ( iPhone | Android ) or PassApp ( iPhone | Android ). You can also just hail a taxi or a tuk-tuk, but both require more hassle and are unlikely to save you any money.

The cheapest way to get to the Phnom Penh airport would be by local bus which costs less than $0.50. If you’re feeling frugal (or adventurous), it’s bus line #3 that you’ll need to take.

Transportation from the Siem Reap Airport

As mentioned above, the Siem Reap International Airport was relocated about 50 kilometers outside of the city in 2023. The ride into town used to be a short one but now it will take close to an hour.

We recommend checking with your hotel prior to your arrival to see if they can arrange an airport pickup. If not, there are transportation desks at the airport that can help you with a taxi. Or you can arrange a ride-share using an app like Grab ( iPhone | Android ) or PassApp ( iPhone | Android ). We prefer PassApp because it supports a local Cambodian company.

We also have a favorite tuk-tuk driver in Siem Reap. His name is Nakry Mean and he drives a batmobile themed tuk-tuk. You can reach him on WhatsApp at  +855 17 761 110  or on his Facebook page,  Siem Reap Batmobile Tuk Tuk .

Private Car from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap

Duration : ~5-6 hours Cost : ~$90 – $140 per vehicle

If you traveling with a group of three or more people then it may make sense to arrange a private transfer between Phnom Penh and Siem Reap.

You can book a car with a driver to take you to Siem Reap for as little as $90. So while it is more expensive than traveling by bus or shared mini-bus, it actually works out to just $30 per person if you’re able to split it between three people. And you can get a 6-passenger vehicle for just $130 which makes it just $22 per person.

A private transfer is typically faster and more comfortable than a bus and has the added advantage of allowing you to stop at interesting sights along the way. You’ll also be picked up at your hotel in Phnom Penh and delivered directly to your hotel in Siem Reap – this door-to-door service saves you quite a bit of time and hassle getting to/from the bus station or airport.

Travel time is 5-6 hours depending on traffic and whether you decide to stop during your journey.

We recommend pre-booking online because you can easily compare prices as well as read other traveler reviews. And because the fare is fixed, you won’t have to worry about being overcharged or haggling with your driver the day of your trip.

The best websites for booking a private car are GetYourGuide.com and Bookaway.com .

If you book your transfer through your guesthouse and not online, be sure to confirm the total price before departing Phnom Penh. Unfortunately, misunderstandings can sometimes happen regarding the final price.

It’s also a good rule of thumb to have the address and phone number for your hotel or guesthouse in Siem Reap. Make sure you give it to your driver if you want to be dropped off directly at your accommodation.

Stops between Phnom Penh and Siem Reap

Phnom Penh to Siem Reap (Angkor Wat): Kampong Phluk Floating Village

One of the biggest advantages of arranging a private transfer is taking stops along the way. Consider talking to your driver to see if you can make stops at a few places of interest on the route to Siem Reap.

Located about halfway to Siem Reap in the Kampong Thom Province, you can stop and visit the temple of Sambor Prei Kuk . This temple complex is not as widely visited as Angkor Wat, though it predates it. This impressive UNESCO World Heritage Site contains about a hundred small temples and it’s a fascinating place to walk around and stretch your legs. Most likely you will be the only tourist there.

For another break, stop and visit the floating villages on Tonlé Sap Lake. Located 20 miles south of Siem Reap, Kampong Phluk is one village built on stilts. You can see the community while on a boat and discover the farming and fishing lifestyle of the locals. Water permitting, you can also see a few schools in the village, visit the Pagodas, and witness other aspects of daily life.

Bus from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap

Phnom Penh to Siem Reap (Angkor Wat) by Bus: Giant Ibis

Duration : ~6 hours Cost : ~$11.00 – $17.00 per person

If you’re on a budget, then the best way to travel between Phnom Penh and Siem Reap is by tourist bus. The trip takes ~6 hours depending on traffic and will cost you less than $20 per person. There are dozens of bus companies that offer this route in Cambodia, and it’s a surprisingly comfortable (and affordable) way to travel.

Tourist bus companies like Giant Ibis have reclining seats, power outlets, and air-con that actually works. They also advertise free Wi-Fi (but it’s rare that any buses in Southeast Asia actually have working Wi-Fi).

Just beware of booking with cheaper bus companies as you’ll almost certainly regret your decision. They tend to have older buses and are notorious for breakdowns, overcrowding, and unexplained delays.

We highly recommended spending just a few dollars more and booking with a bus company that has a solid safety record and good customer reviews. The most popular bus companies are Giant Ibis, Mekong Express, Virak Buntham Express, and Mey Hong Transport.

Giant Ibis is our top pick and Mekong Express is the second-best option . There is really no reason to book with any of the other bus companies. You can compare all of your different bus options on Bookaway.com .

Unfortunately, there is no main bus station in Phnom Penh that all these buses use. Instead, each company has its own bus station or transportation office.

Most buses provide a free pickup service at your hotel if you book in advance. But be sure to note the location when booking if free pick-up isn’t available.

While most tourist buses bound for Siem Reap depart Phnom Penh in the early morning or late afternoon, there are also a few overnight bus options. The overnight buses leave Phnom Penh at 11 -11:30 pm and arrive in Siem Reap around 4 -5 am.

This option saves you the cost of one night’s accommodation, but you’ll be absolutely exhausted on your first day in Siem Reap. We don’t recommend the overnight bus for such a short trip, but you can make your own choice.

Be sure you tell your Siem Reap accommodation which bus you’ll be arriving on before leaving Phnom Penh. Many Siem Reap hotels and guesthouses will arrange a free tuk-tuk to pick you up.

Minibus from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap

How to Get from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap (Angkor Wat): Minivan

Duration : ~6 hours Cost : ~$9 – $12.50 per person

If you are on a budget and need something even cheaper than a bus, you can consider taking a minibus. While not as comfortable as larger tourist buses, a minibus is generally the cheapest way to get from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap. A one-way ticket will cost you between $9 and $12.50 depending on the company you choose.

There are seemingly endless minibusses departing every day, so this is also a good option if you want to decide at the last minute. In fact, some minibus companies like Larryta Express have as many as 25 daily departures to Siem Reap.

We recommend booking your ticket with one of the more reputable and well-known companies. If you don’t choose a company with good reviews, you’re very likely to get a minibus ride from hell. You’ll be squished in an overcrowded minibus with broken or no air-conditioning and no windows to open. It will be a very uncomfortable 6+ hour ride to Siem Reap.

A few companies with better-than-average reviews include Mekong Express, Angkor E-Booking, Larryta Express, and Cambodia Post VIP. Of these options, we prefer Mekong Express or Angkor E-Booking. You can check ticket prices and schedules on Bookaway.com .

Most of the time you don’t really have to buy a minibus ticket in advance due to the number of companies and departures for this route, but we still recommend booking online if you want to ensure you have a seat at a specific time rather than waiting at the bus station for the next available departure.

It seems like every minibus company has a different drop-off point in Siem Reap, so it’s best to ask the staff for the specific drop-off location, especially if you are arranging a ride with your accommodation.

Boat/Ferry from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap

How to Get from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap (Angkor Wat): Boat in Kampong Phluk

Duration : 8+ hours Cost : ~$55.00

If you are seeking the most adventurous way to get from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap, there is an option to take a ferry boat or speed boat during the rainy season. When the water levels are high enough, several Cambodian companies offer this service.

It’s not the most comfortable transportation option as it’s a hot and sticky 8+ hour ride on a slow-moving boat. However, the ferry is certainly a unique way to experience Cambodia and life on the Tonle Sap Lake.

When the Tonle Sap is at its highest water level – between November to March – you can sometimes reserve a seat online on websites like Bookaway.com . If you can’t find tickets online, you can buy them at the ferry itself or ask your hotel in Phnom Penh to call and make a reservation for you. Reserve your boat ticket a day or two in advance is generally a good idea.

On the morning of your departure, make sure you arrive early to get a good seat. During the rainy season, it is common practice for ferry companies to overbook tickets. If you arrive late, you might have to stand the entire way which will be miserable. Bring sunscreen, some snacks, comfortable clothing, a sense of adventure, and an openness to get dirty and wet during the ride.

Some budget ferry companies don’t provide life jackets so double-check before boarding. If you find yourself hesitant about the safety standards offered, it’s best to go with another company or take another method of transportation altogether.

For safety reasons, we recommend Angkor Express . They enforce safety standards such as life jackets on board. The journey is ~$55.00 per person and departs early in the morning from Sisowath Quay in Phnom Penh.

There are also a few luxury boats that also offer this route if you want to travel more slowly and comfortably. Companies like Mekong Dawn offer a 3-day/2-night cruise on a lovely boutique boat inclusive of meals and excursions along the way. These deluxe boats can set you back a few hundred dollars but might be worth it if you prefer to travel in style.

When you reach Siem Reap, the ferry will drop you off at the Phnom Krom Port. You’ll then need to take a tuk-tuk or taxi for about 20 minutes before arriving in the city center. It’ll cost around $5.00 for a tuk-tuk or $10.00 for a taxi. Moto-taxis should also be around for a total charge of a few dollars.

A flight from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap costs from 35 euros in economy class .

How to travel from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap

Phnom Penh – Siem Reap by Private car with driver

This mode of transport, which is the most expensive option, allows you to take full advantage of the tourist attractions on the road. Traveling by private car with a driver is most suitable for travelers who have a good deal of time and seek out the Cambodian countryside in its prime conditions, as well as to stop off as and when they wish. This option, combined with the presence of a guide, is the best way to travel in Cambodia.

Phnom Penh - Siem Reap by Boat

Speedboat is another option to travel from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap, crossing the entire length of the immense Tonlé Sap lake.

However, only few travelers choose this means of transport due to the following reasons:

- The safety is not optimal.

- Long travel time (6 hours)

- Apart from a few floating villages, there is nothing to see but water, hence the monotonous journey.

- Impossible to sail in dry season (From February to June)

- High price, around 30 euros/ticket.

If you insist on travelling from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap by boat , we recommend a company called Mekong Explore .

Besides, if you want to take a cruise in Cambodia , the journey between Siem Reap and Battambang is much more highly suggested.

Phnom Penh - Siem Reap by Bus

For travelers who are on a budget , the bus is a safe option, as bus tickets departing from Phnom Penh range from $11 and there is a departure every hour. The journey from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap by bus normally takes 6–7 hours . We recommend the bus companies Giant Ibis and PSD Express, as they feature large, fairly new buses with very comfortable sleeper seats, air conditioning and toilets. Day and night buses are both available. The night buses , which leave Phnom Penh at 11 p.m. and arrive in Siem Reap at 6 a.m. the next morning, save you time and a night’s accommodation.

Worthwhile stopovers on the Phnom Penh - Siem Reap route

In the event that you decide to undertake the trip by road, here is a compilation of stops we would advise you to make depending on whether you are taking the road that passes east or west of the Tonlé Sap .

In case you pass through the west of the Tonlé Sap

Located in Kandal province, about 40 kilometers from Phnom Penh , Oudong used to be the royal residence and capital of Cambodia for more than 250 years. The former capital of the kingdom is today a monumental royal necropolis perched on a hill where some sovereigns rest. The view from the summit is quite exceptional, owing to its unobstructed panorama over the surrounding countryside and the Tonlé Sap. This is a site steeped in history, where in 1863 the King of Cambodia, Norodom, and Admiral de La Grandière signed a treaty guaranteeing France’s protection of the kingdom from Siam and Annam.

Kampong Chhnang

Kampong Chhnang , the capital city of the namesake province, lies around one hundred kilometers northwest of the country's capital. It is also a port on the Tonlé Sap river, from which you can embark on a boat trip to some picturesque floating villages and discover the fascinating authentic aquatic life. Kampong Chhnang is also renowned for pottery workshops, where skilled artisans perpetuate age-old traditional know-how. This city also boasts some beautiful colonial-style buildings and a vibrant market.

Located in the northwest of Cambodia, this city gives a certain charm in the eyes of travelers thanks to its provincial atmosphere. Most of the buildings are in colonial or traditional Cambodian style, clustered along the river and the large, bustling central market with its art-deco architecture. As the country's largest rice-growing province, Battambang is certainly a treat for countryside lovers. A visit to this province will allow you to discover agricultural life and some beautiful Buddhist temples lost in the countryside, such as Phnom Sampheou , an ancient religious center famous for its Buddhist cave temples. The hypnotic countryside can be explored on the "bamboo train", a typical attraction that uses large bamboo trays equipped with a small engine to take you on a wild 6-kilometer ride through the rice paddies. From Battambang, Siem Reap can be reached by boat on a beautiful cruise on the Sangker River, passing through narrow canals, floating villages and marshy areas.

Koh Dach or Silk Island

A charming little island located on the Mekong at the gates of Phnom Penh. A true speck of beauty with rice paddies at its center, where authentic rural Khmer life thrives. It's a pleasure to cycle around Koh Dach and discover local life, especially watching the women weavers who, under their wooden stilt houses, weave beautiful silk or cotton textiles on old traditional looms. There are some magnificent temples and vestiges of the French presence to discover, and at the very north of the island, a beautiful seasonal sandy beach awaits you for a refreshing swim and to admire the sunset over the Mekong. Extend the pleasure and choose to stay at least one night on the island.

Skun Insect Market

A very special stopover that's sure to leave you with unforgetable memories. Located 80 kilometers north of Phnom Penh , Skun village  attracts many Cambodians and courageous international tourists for its exotic insect market. Eating insects in Cambodia has been a common thing since the famines caused by the Khmer Rouge and is a culinary practice that you absolutely must discover even if it may seem repulsive at first. Grasshoppers, crickets, larvae, cicadas, scorpions, and spiders such as tarantulas are just some of the delicacies you can try along the way.

Kampong Cham

Come visit this river town, you won't regret it. Immerse yourself in the authentic ambiance of Kampong Cham, accentuated by the captivating remnants of colonial architecture as well as of the lively market. Cross the world's longest bamboo bridge to reach Koh Pen Island , where a mesmerizing, untouched Cambodia awaits your exploration on two wheels. Uncover the well-preserved Chup and Memot plantations, steeped in the rich history of colonial times. Ascend the majestic Phnom Pros and Phnom Srei hills, offering panoramic vistas of the awe-inspiring Mekong. Lastly, be sure not to overlook the awe-inspiring Angkorian temples of Wat Nokor and Wat Hanchey, further enriching your journey through this remarkable destination.

Kampong Thom

Kampong Thom , the powerful capital of Southeast Asia during the Funan reign, is a very interesting stopover for lovers of history and ancient architecture,FF as it is extremely rich in pre-Angkorian temples and sanctuaries. Don't miss out the Kakaoh village which is located 16 kilometers before Kampong Thom , renowned for stonemasons who work mainly for temples and mainly sculpt Buddhas. A small detour allows you to discover the Prasat Phum Prasat Temple , distinguished by its superb brick and sandstone structure dating from the 8th century.

The Preah Khan complex of Kompong Svay

In the process of being classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this exceptional complex houses the largest single-temple enclosure built during the Angkorian empire. Built between the late 11th and 12th centuries, the Preah Khan complex is a veritable treasure trove of Angkorian architecture. We suggest you take advantage of the lake and its surrounding restaurants for a pleasant lunch break!

Kompong Khleang

Before arriving in Siem Reap , stop off at Kompong Khleang , a floating village that has well preserved its charm and authenticity. Located on the eastern shore of Tonlé Sap, the Kompong Khleang floating village is a must-see for its unique aquatic life, resolutely focused on the lake and all its related activities, particularly fishing, which is the livelihood of the Vietnamese and Cham communities that make up the majority of the village. Kompong Khleang is best visited just after the rainy season, in late October and early November.

Overland travel between Phnom Penh and Siem Reap by Giant Ibis Bus

Overland travel between Phnom Penh and Siem Reap has become much better in recent years due to the main road upgrade. This journey is now much safer and easier to endure; it’s also quicker, with most options taking between 5 and 6 hours.

There is much scepticism about night buses and therefore it’s not highly recommended to travel on them due to a number of safety factors; namely theft and risk of accident due to driver fatigue.

Phnom Penh to Siem Reap by Taxi

A taxi, usually an SUV, is between $60 and $100 from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap, for private use. Expect high speed and a lot of weaving in and out of traffic. Taxis can be a very effective means of getting from A to B in Cambodia, but are not for the feint hearted.

Phnom Penh to Siem Reap by Bus

The following bus companies offer a direct service between Phnom Penh and Siem Reap.

Giant Ibis is the most reputable bus company in Cambodia; they are renowned for their safety standards and extra modern conveniences on their buses. Buses are medium size, seating around 25-30 people. They have charging ports and wifi, and a welcome refreshment. They also have a television and normally show movies on the trip. Generally the Giant Ibis bus will make two stops on the journey, one for a rest room and drinks and another where you can buy something to eat, as well as rest room and drinks. They have two drivers and a host on board, who will speak English and Khmer.

The terminal in Phnom Penh is near the night market, though if you book through your hotel or guesthouse they will pick you up at the hotel. You need to be ready around an hour before the bus departure time for the shuttle to collect you. The terminal in Siem Reap is just out of town (not far from the Angkor National Museum) and you’ll need to take a tuk tuk to your guesthouse or hotel, which shouldn’t cost more than $5, depending on location.

Ticket price: $17

Mekong Express

Mekong Express is another well-known and reputable operator that run coaches between Siem Reap and Phnom Penh. The drivers often don’t speak English, and announcements are normally made in Khmer. The Mekong Express makes two stops along the journey. There is a wifi, snacks and television, normally with loud Khmer karaoke songs and film clips, so you may want to bring your own entertainment.

The Mekong Express terminal in Phnom Penh is near the night market and if you book through your guesthouse or hotel they will pick you up and take you to the terminal. The terminal in Siem Reap is very centrally located, on Sivatha Boulevard, from here it should only be about a $3 tuk tuk ride to your hotel or guesthouse.

Ticket price: $13

Capitol Tours

Capitol Tours operates coaches between Phnom Penh and Siem Reap in a low fuss and efficient manner. You will be entertained with Khmer karaoke songs and film clips. The bus will stop at least once during the journey.

The bus terminal in Phnom Penh is near Olympic Stadium, you need to buy your ticket here and board the bus here too. The Siem Reap terminal is a short way from town near Psar Krom market; it should be about $3 or so in a tuk tuk to your hotel or guesthouse.

Ticket price: $8 ( There is also a VIP van service for $12,5.)

Check out  CamboTicket  to  book your bus tickets online  for the above mentioned companies and others.

Phnom Penh to Siem Reap by Mini Van

There is a vast array of mini van services between Phnom Penh and Siem Reap and all around Cambodia, here’s a selection.

Virak Buntham

Virak Buntham have regular services to Siem Reap from Phnom Penh. If you book via your hotel or guesthouse, they will send a tuk tuk to take you to the bus station. The van has minimal customer service, but this is one of the most comfortable mini vans available. There is Wi-Fi and air conditioning and reclining seats, that actually recline so far you could probably lie down – though obviously not if you don’t want to make an enemy with your neighbour behind. There is one stop along the way. The bus terminal in in the center of Siem Reap, near the riverside roundabout.

Ticket price: $14+  (depending on your hotel’s mark-up)

Cambodia Post

Cambodia Post have a mini van service that operates between the two cities post offices. It is purely a passenger van, not one piled up with mail! The van is reasonable and there are two stops on the way. There are two trouble spots in the van to be wary of, the seat next to the driver, which is above the engine and thus elevated, not great if you are even a moderate height, and in the back above the rear wheel, extremely cramped and uncomfortable, so do your best to avoid these seats. You need to arrange your own transport to the Phnom Penh post office and from the Siem Reap post office to your hotel or guesthouse.

Ticket price: $10,5

Seila Angkor Express

Seila Angkor are one of the most frequent services with a departure every 1-2 hours from Phnom Penh. If you book from your hotel or guesthouse, you can be collected to go to the bus terminal. There is Wi-Fi and air conditioning and one stop along the way. The terminal in Siem Reap is fairly close to town, opposite Samaki Market . It should be around $3-4 for a tuk tuk, or more if your hotel is further away.

Ticket price: $12,5

Siem Reap to Phnom Penh

Siem Reap to Phnom Penh

Best options, other options, siem reap to phnom penh schedule, how to get from siem reap to phnom penh.

Wide leafy boulevards, exquisite Buddhist temples and a beautiful riverside promenade – even if Phnom Penh cannot boast a lot of large-scale tourist attractions, it possesses its own special charm. Easily one of the least developed capitals of South East Asia, Phnom Penh is changing rapidly nowadays; new Western-style shopping malls and high-rises make their way to the city, and there are even air-conditioned public buses cruising its streets. You can have a look at the darkest years of Khmer history in Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum or venture further afield to the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek. But you can choose just to enjoy Phnom Penh’s – alas! – rapidly vanishing French flavour, indulge in world-wide cuisine offered in its fancy restaurants at half the price you pay anywhere else or absorb the local colours visiting markets and people-watching. There is an abundance of worth-seeing places of interest around Phnom Penh, easily explored during a day trip, including Phinom Chisor, a stunning example of the Angkorian period temples, or Koh Dach, the Silk Island, where you can witness the process of silk weaving and buy some of the finest textiles in Cambodia. All in all, architectural wonders, busy nightlife venues and shopping opportunities galore in Phnom Penh. It may not become your favourite city in Asia, but Phnom Penh definitely deserves a closer look.

From Siem Reap to Phnom Penh by bus

There is hardly another city or town in Cambodia – possibly Sihanoukville being the only exception – with such a wide choice of destinations on offer as Siem Reap. Buses to Phnom Penh leave throughout the day from several locations all over the capital; and prices and level of comfort vary a lot. Note that the majority of the operators use the main bus station in Siem Reap located four km out of town. If buying your ticket in a street agency, always inquire where from your bus departs.

Giant Ibis Transport is the best operator serving the route due to many factors, including the excellent safety record, insurance coverage for all passengers, free Wi-Fi and electrical outlets on board. The company uses its own bus terminal in Siem Reap behind the Angkor National Museum. It is located closer both to the Old Market area and Wat Bo Road where the majority of accommodation is found. To get to the Giant Ibis bus terminal, take a tuk-tuk (from USD1 to USD3) or use complimentary pick-up service – inquire in your hotel in advance.

There are at least four (in certain periods up to six) daily buses of Giant Ibis from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh. No matter which one you choose, tickets cost USD15. All buses take from 5½ hours to seven hours to reach the Phnom Penh.

Morning buses which leave Siem Reap at 7.45am, 8.45am and 12.30pm, make two pit stops en route: the first one is a short ‘bathroom’ stop and the second one is one-and-a-half-hour lunch stop. Note that there are no toilets on board of the morning buses, and lunch is not included into your ticket price. The buses themselves are standard big buses with air-conditioning and slightly reclining seats, so your trip in general should be quite ok.

Night buses are sleeper buses with two tiers of sleeping bunks. There are reading lights for top bunks, toilets and no entertainment program during your trip – you can have some rest, of course, if you manage to make yourself comfortable on a bunk which is frankly speaking is not an easy task at all! The advantage of taking a night bus lies in saving a few dollars on your hotel room. Besides, the night bus is the most convenient one if you are going to connect via Phnom Penh to other Giant Ibis’ buses to Kampot, Sihanoukville or Ho Chi Minh.

In Phnom Penh, Giant Ibis buses arrive to the company’s own bus terminal in 106 Street, close to the night market and the riverfront. If you have just a couple of hours to explore the capital before your next bus leaves, just go for a stroll along the magnificent riverfront promenade.

Connecting to other Giant Ibis buses

From Phnom Penh, you can connect to other Giant Ibis buses to Kampot, Sihanoukville or Ho Chi Minh in Vietnam.

If you have traveled at least a bit anywhere in Cambodia, you may have noticed that the Khmers know no modesty as far as the width of their roads is concerned. This local love for expansions makes Phnom Penh tough for covering on foot. Tuk-tuks and motorbike taxis are ubiquitous and plentiful; they are an affordable and easy way to get around the city. Expect to pay from USD1 to USD3 for a tuk-tuk ride, even less for a motorbike taxi.

Renting a scooter is also an option in Phnom Penh. Daily rates are about USD5. Note that helmets are a must, traffic is chaotic and accidents with casualties are not unheard of. Rent only if you are an experienced rider – we mean with some experience in Asian countries.

There are public buses in Phnom Penh. Tickets cost less than USD0.5 per trip. The most useful route is Line 03 which stops at the International Airport, Central Market and Night Market. Line 01 combined with some walking brings you to the Royal Palace and National Museum.

Further afield from Phnom Penh

Located literally in the heart of the country, Phnom Penh has good transport connections with all the other cities and towns around Cambodia and in the neighbouring countries. Apart from the already mentioned Kampot, Sihanoukville and Ho Chi Minh, some of the destinations which you can reach overland from Phnom Penh, include Poi Pet, Battambang, Koh Kong, Preah Vihear and Mondulkiri in Cambodia; Bangkok in Thailand; Vientiane and Pakse in Laos.

Both Phnom Penh and Siem Reap are full of hotel, rental, and hostel options.

You can use the interactive map below to plug in your dates, and move around to find an option that fits your desires.

I’m centering the map in a popular part of Siem Reap, where you’ll find a lot of tourists, ex-pats, restaurants, and bars.

Phnom Penh to Siem Reap Day Trip

Not many people take a day trip from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap (or vice versa) … but … it *is* doable! I can actually vouch for this option, since I’ve done it.

Five Five sky bar at the Hyatt Regency in Phnom Penh

While you can hire a driver in Phnom Penh to take you the distance, it’s easier (and far more efficient) to fly. Even with all the time in the airport (and in flight), you’ll save yourself 8 hours of travel time by flying.

Private Taxi Day Trip

The cost of hiring a driver would likely be around $150 (USD) and the day trip would look something like this:

  • Leave Phnom Penh: 6:00 am
  • Arrive at Angkor Wat: 12:00 pm
  • Explore temples all afternoon
  • Dinner in Siem Reap: 5:00 pm
  • Drive back to Phnom Penh
  • Arrive in Phnom Penh: midnight

Day Trip by Plane

Airline departure times vary, so this is a rough estimate of what a day trip would look like. This is the schedule I followed:

  • Depart Phnom Penh International Airport: 10:00 am
  • Arrive at Siem Reap Airport: 11:00 am
  • Tuk-tuk takes you to Angkor Wat: by 11:30 am
  • Explore temples until 5:00 pm
  • Dinner in Siem Reap until 6:30 pm
  • Flight departs from Siem Reap at 8:30 pm

Siem Reap International Airport in Cambodia

Whether you choose to fly or drive, you’ll spend about 5 to 6 hours at the temples near Siem Reap. It’s not enough to truly soak in the history of this area, but if it’s all your schedule allows, I’d highly recommend making the effort! A day trip to Siem Reap will be a highlight of your trip to Cambodia.

Best time to visit Cambodia

What’s the Best Month to Visit Cambodia?

Ultimately, the best time to visit Phnom Penh or Siem Reap depends on your tolerance for weather conditions and your desire for crowd levels. Many travelers prefer the cooler and drier months of November to February for a more comfortable experience, but if you’re looking for budget-friendly options and don’t mind some rain, the wet season from May to October can offer unique experiences with fewer tourists.

There are year-round benefits to visiting Cambodia, which remain the same regardless of the heat, humidity, and monsoonal rains.

  • The Culture & People : Phnom Penh and Siem Reap are rich in culture and history, and you can explore its heritage, including temples, palaces, and museums, throughout the year.
  • Cuisine : Enjoy delicious Cambodian cuisine, with street food vendors and restaurants serving traditional dishes.
  • Local Markets : Explore vibrant local markets like Central Market and Russian Market to shop for souvenirs and local products.

Here’s a breakdown of the pros and cons of different months to help you decide:

  • Dry and Cool Weather : These months offer pleasant, dry, and cooler weather, making it ideal for outdoor activities and sightseeing.
  • Festivals : You can experience various cultural festivals and celebrations, including Chinese New Year.
  • Crowds : The nice weather draws the largest crowds of the year.
  • Warm Weather : It’s the start of the hot season, but you can still enjoy outdoor activities comfortably.
  • Khmer New Year : Celebrate the Khmer New Year, which is a major cultural event with parades, parties, and traditional ceremonies.
  • Monsoon Season : The weather is hot, and turns humid with the start of the monsoon season.
  • Fewer Tourists : As it’s the beginning of the rainy season, there are fewer tourists, meaning you can enjoy attractions with smaller crowds and potentially lower prices.
  • The Rainy Season : These months see the heaviest rainfall, so plan accordingly. The days usually won’t be washouts, but rather involve afternoon storms.
  • Indoor Activities : Due to the frequent rain, consider exploring museums, markets, and indoor attractions.
  • Smaller Crowds : Fewer tourists visit in the summer, and you’ll find better hotel deals.
  • End of the Rainy Season : The rains start to subside, and the countryside remains lush and green.
  • Small Crowds : Before the high tourist season begins in November, you’ll still have smaller crowds and better hotel deals.
  • Cooler and Dryer : These months offer cooler, more comfortable weather with minimal rainfall. Weatherwise, they’re prime for visitors.
  • Festivals : Celebrate Water Festival (Bon Om Touk) in November, a major Cambodian event with boat races and other festivities.
  • Large Crowds : Expect thousands a day to visit Angkor Wat.
