Hong Kong to Macau by Ferry

Hong kong ferry terminals.

1. Hong Kong Macau Ferry Terminal (preferred, most frequent ferries)

Hong Kong Macau Ferry Terminal is near the IFC Towers in the Shun Tak Centre on Hong Kong Island. You can take the subway and get off at Shueng Wan Station. During the daytime, there is a boat every 15 minutes.

2. China Ferry Terminal (recommended, good location)

China Ferry Terminal is in Tsim Sha Tsui. It is about a kilometer north of the Tsim Sha Tsui Star Ferry. You could walk to it through Harbour City Mall, or just take a taxi to 33 Canton Road.

3. Sky Pier at the Hong Kong International Airport (for transiting tourists only)

The terminal is located next to the Hong Kong airport. If you plan to take a boat directly from Hong Kong airport to Macau, you can choose to depart from this terminal.

4. Tuen Mun Ferry Terminal (Generally not recommended, inconvenient location)

This terminal is located in the New Territories, which is not popular for tourists. There are less than 10 ferries traveling between Hong Kong and Macau every day. This terminal is only practical if you are staying nearby.

Macau Ferry Terminals

It doesn't matter which port to go to Macau because Macau is not big. No matter which terminal you arrive at, there are free shuttle buses that can deliver you to any hotel or casino.

1. Macau Maritime Ferry Terminal (close to downtown Macau)

Macau Maritime Ferry Terminal, also known as the Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal, is the main northern terminal closest to San Ma Lo, architectural attractions, and about 23 mainly smaller casinos.

You can take Bus 3 from San Ma Lo to the Macau Ferry Terminal in about 10 minutes for 2.5 HKD.

2. Taipa Terminal (close to casinos, hotels, airports)

Taipa Terminal is to the south, closest to the Cotai Strip area with the biggest casinos such as the Venetian, the City of Dreams across the street, and the Macau International Airport.

To go to the Taipa Terminal, take the Cotai Jet from any of the three Hong Kong terminals. There are late night returns (at 1 AM) from the Cotai Terminal to the Hong Kong Macau Terminal.

Ferry Tickets: Costs and Where to Buy Them

Ferry prices are higher in the evening and highest at night, and higher at weekends and holidays.

  • For economy class, the prices are from 171 to 211 HKD for a single trip.
  • For superior/first class, the prices are from 346 to 391 HKD for a single trip.

Planning a Macau Day Trip

Macau's main draw for tourists are the big casinos and hotels. It is the new gambling resort capital of the world with 5 of the world's 10 largest casino resorts. But there are also old Portuguese sites to see. UNESCO World Heritage sites San Ma Lo and Guia Fortress are popular with tourists. See the Top 6 Things to Do in Macau .

The St. Paul's Ruins

The ruins of St. Paul's Cathedral , which was built in 1580, are now the most representative landmark in Macau. They combine the style of European Renaissance and Oriental architecture, reflecting a blend of Eastern and Western culture.

Monte Fortress

Monte Fortress was built in 1627. The fortress, and the Macau Museum in it, is probably the best place to go to learn about Macau's history and culture. Museum tickets cost 15 HKD.

Senado Square

Until 1999 Macau was a Portuguese colony. Senado Square was an old Portuguese square. Old pastel colored buildings line the sides, and a church is at the back. It and about 20 other old buildings and forts are listed as UNESCO World Heritage sites.

Walking around the square, you will feel like you are in Europe, with such a beautiful view and ambience. You can see so many shops selling Macau snacks like Portuguese egg tarts, puddings, and pork sandwiches.

The A-Ma Temple

The A-Ma Temple is a symbol of Macau's Mazu culture. With a history of over 500 years, it is one of the oldest temples in the city as well as a World Heritage attraction.

The A-Ma Temple was one of the first places the Portuguese saw when they arrived in 14th and 15th centuries and it still functions as a spiritual beacon in Macau.

The Venetian Macao

The Venetian Macao is a super large resort with the theme of Venetian waters, with 3,000 luxury suites, more than 30 restaurants, more than 330 retail stores, 4 outdoor swimming pools, and an 18-hole rooftop golf course. It is one of the largest casinos in the world, with no less than 640 gaming tables and 1,760 slot machines.

At the same time, it is also a must-see for tourists and one of the most well-known places in Macau.

Grand Lisboa

The building of the Grand Lisboa is like a giant golden lotus flower. It is the landmark of Macau and is very eye-catching. There are not only luxurious suites, but also Michelin restaurants, outdoor pools, and spas.

Wynn Palace

It is owned by the world gambling king, Alan Wynn. It is said that this resort costed 4 billion USD and attracts a lot of tourists not only for its luxurious outside, but even the decoration inside.

Getting to the casinos in Macau is easy. Free casino buses line up at both ferry terminals, and pretty women representing their hotels and casinos stand and hand out coupons and information. Just get on the bus you want for free. You can easily get lost in the biggest casinos eating, shopping, and seeing the shows.

If you have two days in Macau, check How to Get the Most out of Macau in 2 Days .

Taking a flight is neither necessary nor efficient since the ferry services plying this route take just under an hour, while it’s more cumbersome and expensive to take a flight.

Hong Kong Airport To Macau By Ferry, Bus, Car, Taxi, Shuttle Bus

TurboJet and Cotai Water Jet operate services from the Hong Kong Airport to Macau. TurboJet will arrive at the Macau Maritime Ferry Terminal . They offer several ticketing classes from Economy to the Premier VIP Cabin, so you can choose one that suits your budget and preferences. Amenities provided at the boat include free WiFi, food, beverages, and some duty-free items available for purchase.

Meanwhile, Cotai Water Jet ferries will arrive at the Macau Taipa Ferry Terminal . There are three seat classes to choose from, including the Cotai VIP Cabin, Cotai First, and Cotai Class. They also offer comfortable rides with air-conditioning, snacks, and beverages for purchase.

Here’s how to get the bus from Hong Kong to Macao

READING TIME

Here’s how to get the bus from Hong Kong to Macao

After nearly three years of Covid-19, Macao is welcoming visitors once again. Nearly 40,000 people arrived on 8 January – the day that travel restrictions were lifted – and tourism has been recovering at a healthy pace since.

A growing number of visitors are discovering the bus service across the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB). Inaugurated in 2018, the service is operated by HZM Bus and is officially called the “shuttle bus” but informally known as “golden bus” after the double-decker vehicles’ distinctive livery.

Journey time is usually less than an hour. Here are more details on this speedy transport option between Hong Kong and Macao.

Where does the Hong Kong-Macao bus leave from?

Departures are from the HZMB Hong Kong Port , a sprawling transport hub that sits on dozens of hectares of reclaimed land close to Hong Kong’s airport. The passenger buildings house customs, immigration and port health facilities, as well as restaurants, ATMs and ticket counters.

How do I get to HZMB Hong Kong Port?

The quickest way to get to the HZMB Hong Kong Port from downtown Hong Kong is via the Airport Express Link train service, which takes just 24 minutes to cover the 35.3 kilometres between the central business district and the airport. From the airport, board the B4 shuttle service that plies the circular route between Terminal 1 and HZMB Hong Kong Port. It takes just 10 minutes and runs 24 hours a day.

There are several bus services from the city to the port and taxis can pick up and drop off at the facility. If you’re driving your own vehicle, parking is available for a maximum of three days but you’re advised to book in advance .

HZMB HK

What do I need to know about the schedule?

The service runs for 24 hours a day. At peak periods, departures take place every 5 minutes. For non-peak periods, there’s a 10 to 15-minute wait between services. Overnight, the buses depart every 15 to 30 minutes.

Find out more here .

What about tickets?

Daytime tickets cost HKD 65 for adults. At night, the fare goes up to HKD 70. Concessionary fares are available.

You can buy your ticket online here or you can purchase it from vending machines or ticket counters at HZMB Hong Kong Port.

What am I allowed to bring?

One small piece of baggage is allowed per person – no bigger than 64 cm x 41 cm x 23 cm (25” x 16” x 9”). You can bring snacks and drinks but aren’t allowed to consume them while the bus is in motion. Details of other regulations can be found here .

Hong Kong Zhuhai Macao Bridge HZMB

Where does the bus arrive in Macao?

The bus will set you down at the HZMB Macao port , which is situated in the northeastern part of the territory, adjacent to the Macau New Urban Zone reclamation project.

If you wish to travel by bus to the city, the two routes available are the 101X and 102X. (For an easier experience, download the local bus app for Android or iOS .)

Taxis are also available. From HZMB Macao Port, it’s just a 10-minute drive to Senado Square , 12 minutes to the famous Ruins of St Paul’s , and 13 minutes to the bright lights of the Cotai strip .

What else do I need to know about entry requirements for Macao?

Before boarding the bus, all you need is a valid bus ticket or travel documents. Travellers arriving from Hong Kong no longer need to undergo a nucleic acid test. The Macao health authorities urge people to continue wearing face masks in public, but this is a guideline only.

How to Travel From Hong Kong to Macao by Bus, Car, Ferry, and Helicopter

travel from hk to macau

The autonomous region of Macao (also spelled Macau ) is a mixing pot of cultures on the south coast of China. Its abundance of casinos and the lively Cotai Strip have earned it the nickname "Las Vegas of Asia," and—another selling point—it's just a hop, skip, and jump from Hong Kong . The two cities are just across the Pearl River Delta from each other and travel between them is as interesting as helicoptering, ferrying, or driving across the longest sea bridge in the world. Depending on which mode of transportation you choose, you can cover the 34 miles (55 kilometers) in less than an hour by road or 15 minutes by air.

What Is the Cheapest Way to Get From Hong Kong to Macao?

The cheapest way to travel between these two cities is by bus. The Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macao Bridge  (HZMB)—a 34-mile (55-kilometer) bridge and tunnel system—made travel between Hong Kong and Macao a breeze when it opened in 2018. Before then, getting between the two required boarding a boat or a helicopter. Now, the 24-hour HZMB Shuttle Bus commutes between the two in 45 minutes or less, and it costs only HK $65 (about $8) each way (it's HK $70 if you're traveling between midnight and 6 a.m.).

What Is the Fastest Way to Get From Hong Kong to Macao?

The fastest way to get between the two is by the Sky Shuttle , a commercial helicopter that transports commuters across the Pearl River Delta more than 30 times a day. Both cities do have major international airports, but there's no need to endure wait times and security lines when the Sky Shuttle takes only 15 minutes to get from the Hong Kong-Macau Ferry Terminal and the Macau Maritime Terminal. The helicopter operates between 10 a.m. and 11 p.m. daily and costs HK $4,300 (around $554). This price includes a Hong Kong Departure Tax and a charge from the Civil Aviation Authority of Macao.

How Long Does It Take to Drive?

Thanks to the HZMB, driving between Hong Kong and Macao now takes only 45 minutes, but that doesn't include all the city driving you may have to do. Hong Kong and Macao are both big cities with congested streets and limited parking, so drive at your own risk. In any case, the 34-mile (55-kilometer) bridge will alone take you 45 minutes and cost 150 Chinese yuan (around $23) in tolls for private or hired cars.

How Long Is the Ferry Ride?

Before the longest sea bridge in the world connected the two, the best way to get between Hong Kong and Macao would have been to take an hour-long ferry. There are a few different services that run the route, including TurboJet and Cotai Water Jet , all departing from the Hong Kong-Macau Ferry Terminal in Sheung Wan several times per hour. TurboJet arrives via the Macau Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal and the Cotai Water Jet arrives via the Macau Taipa Ferry Terminal, which are about 10 minutes apart. Both of these services offer economy tickets from Hong Kong to Macao for HK $160 (about $21), but other, pricier classes are also available. Tickets can be booked online or purchased at ticketing booths at the terminals.

When Is the Best Time to Travel to Macao?

The climate in Macao is subtropical, meaning: sweltering, sticky summers and a five-month-long typhoon season. Summertime is best avoided because of the heat, the relentless rain, and the tourists. The best time of year to visit is October through December, after the weather dries up and cools down but before the winter chill hits (note: there aren't many places in Macao with central heating). As far as your transportation from Hong Kong goes, the ferries, buses, and helicopters run year-round, but they do often inflate prices for nighttime travel.

Do I Need a Visa to Travel to Macao?

U.S. citizens may visit Macao for up to 30 days and Hong Kong for up to 90 days without a visa.

What Is There to Do in Macao?

This gaming capital is home to ample casinos and a Cotai Strip on which to gamble and party the night away. If that's your scene, The Venetian, City of Dreams, MGM Macau, and Pharaoh's Palace are not to be missed. If, however, a mix of nightclubs and slot machines is not your thing, there are plenty of other sites and activities in Macau to keep you entertained. How about the Ruins of Saint Paul's, a 17th-century UNESCO World Heritage Site, or the ornate A-Ma Temple? You can get a bird's-eye view of the city from the top of the Macau Tower Convention & Entertainment Centre (or bungee jump off of it, if you're feeling especially daring), or treat yourself to the shopping and dining at Senado Square .

Economy tickets on the ferry start at HK $160 for a weekday sailing and increase depending on departure day and type of ticket you buy.

The ferry ride takes about one hour to complete.

The Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge (HZMB) is 34 miles (55 kilometers) long and takes 45 minutes to cross.

Macao has gone from sleepy fishing villages to Portuguese colony to flashy Vegas-style casino hub (it’s the only place to legally gamble in China). But you don’t need to be a high-roller to appreciate a day trip or weekend getaway to the other SAR.

It only takes about an hour to get from Hong Kong to Macao, where you’ll find a rich melting-pot history, distinctive cuisine, a growing arts and entertainment scene and even sandy beaches. Read on for tips on how to easily transit by ferry or bus, plus an overview of where to go and what things to do once you’ve arrived.

Travelling to Macao by ferry

To travel from the centre of Hong Kong to Macao, take a ferry ride from either the Hong Kong Macau Ferry Terminal in Sheung Wan or the Kowloon China Ferry Terminal in Tsim Sha Tsui.

There are two high-speed ferry operators that take passengers to different parts of Macao in about one hour. Ferries operated by  TurboJet  from Sheung Wan and Tsim Sha Tsui sail to and from the Macau Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal on the Macao Peninsula every 15 minutes.  Cotai Water Jet  sails to and from the Macau Taipa Ferry Terminal on the island of Taipa every 30 minutes.

TurboJet also operates six services a day from the Tuen Mun Ferry Pier in the New Territories to Macau Outer Harbour, and five return journeys.

For those flying into Hong Kong International Airport, a select number of ferries depart for the Macao Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal each week. Simply purchase your flight and ferry ticket to Macao in one single booking through our website.* Your baggage will be checked through to your final destination.

Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge

Travelling to Macao by bus

Travellers used to rely primarily on ferry services to move between the two cities, which made the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB) a game-changer when it opened in late 2018.

Connecting passengers between Hong Kong and Macao as well as the city of Zhuhai on the Chinese mainland, the HZMB is the world’s longest sea crossing by bridge and tunnel, spanning 55 kilometres. Operating 24 hours a day, the HZMB takes just 45 minutes to travel across.

There is a  shuttle bus  connecting the cities, with tickets sold in the departure hall of the Passenger Clearance Buildings in each of the three locations. The Hong Kong departure hall can be reached by public bus or taxi from the city and the airport. Detailed transport information is available on the  HZMB website .

Transfer coaches also run between Hong Kong International Airport’s SkyPier terminal to the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge terminal in Macao. Book your flight and coach tickets through an agent, and your tickets will be combined into a single booking (for selected routes)*. Your bags will also automatically be checked through to your final destination.

Travellers also have the option to take a privately run coach or car for direct travel from within Hong Kong.  Trans Island  and  One Bus  are two such operators, which offer advance ticket bookings online.

Exploring Macao’s three main areas

Macao consists of the historic peninsula, the islands of Taipa and Coloane and Cotai – each with their own characteristics and charms. Here’s a quick primer.

Ruins of St Paul’s

Macao Peninsula

This area is known as ‘old’ Macao for its cluster of historic sites: Senado Square; the  Ruins of St Paul’s  dating back to the 17th century; and  Guia Fortress , which affords sweeping views of the city.

Portuguese restaurant

Taipa and Coloane

Both islands are excellent foodie destinations and reflect a more traditional, laid-back side of Macao. Located in Taipa Village is  Tai Lei Loi Kei , a cafe that’s said to have invented the iconic Macanese pork chop bun.  Old Taipa Tavern , a casual neighbourhood gastropub, can be found there as well.

Coloane, in Macao’s sleepy southern tip, is full of pastel colonial buildings, cobblestone streets and beaches. It’s also a popular destination for al fresco meals at  Fernando ’s , which puts a Macanese spin on Portuguese cuisine, and for egg tarts made fresh at the original branch of the legendary  Lord Stow’s Bakery .

Macao's Cotai Strip

Credit: Macao's Cotai Strip

This is a newer part of Macao, created from reclaimed land that connects Taipa (to the north) and Coloane (to the south). Its centrepiece is the glitzy Cotai Strip, whose lineup of casino and hotel complexes – with upscale shopping, dining and entertainment – deliver on Macao’s reputation as the ‘Las Vegas of Asia.’

The House of Dancing Water

What to do in Macao

Macao counts scores of  world-class restaurants  such as the Michelin-starred Alain Ducasse at Morpheus and Cantonese fine-dining spot Jade Dragon. There’s a growing contemporary art scene as well as blockbuster live shows like the long-running  The House of Dancing Water ,  called ‘the world’s largest water extravaganza’.

For more detailed recommendations, consult our roundup of  20 old and new reasons to visit Macao .

Morpheus

Where to stay in Macao

Major hotels include  MGM Cotai , the Hollywood-themed  Studio City , the French-inspired  Parisian Macao  and the Zaha Hadid-designed  Morpheus  (above left). For something more old-school, head south to  Pousada de Coloane  (above right), a charming Portuguese colonial-style resort that was formerly home to a tycoon.

Senado Square

What to know before you go

  • Keep your passport on hand, as there are immigration and customs checkpoints between the two cities.
  • Macao’s currency is the pataca, but Hong Kong dollars are also widely accepted at an equivalent rate. However, patacas cannot be used in Hong Kong.
  • The official languages of the city are Cantonese and Portuguese; Mandarin and English are also commonly spoken.
  • Many hotels run free shuttles to and from the ferry terminals throughout the day, which allows you to skip taxi queues.
  • It’s common practice for taxi drivers to round up the fare, so don’t be surprised if you find yourself slightly short-changed.
  • Many of Cotai’s hotels and casinos are linked through massive complexes that can take a long time to navigate, so give yourself plenty of time to wander.
  • Macao launched its light-rail transit system in December 2019. The inaugural Taipa Line’s 11 stops include the airport, ferry terminal and Cotai West.

*If you’re departing from Taiwan China, you’ll need to book your flight ticket with us and your ferry ticket or coach transfer ticket via the individual operator. Before dropping your bags at your departing airport, please let us know that you’ve purchased tickets separately and we’ll make the necessary arrangements.

MACAU TO HONG KONG BY FERRY or BUS (via Sea Bridge)

MACAU TO HONG KONG BY FERRY or BUS (via Sea Bridge)

By continuing to read this article, you agree to double check with the authorities or other concerned entities for the latest updates.

Hong Kong is easily accessible from Macau. All it takes is a one-hour ferry ride. Hence, it is not unusual for travelers to bundle these two cities together. Some travelers fly to Macau, take a ferry to Hong Kong, and then return to their country from there. Some do it the other way around.

If you have a roundtrip ticket to Macau, you can visit Hong Kong on a day trip. Just make sure you build your itinerary well to maximize your day.

You have two options: by ferry or by shuttle bus via the newly opened Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge (HZMB).

WHAT'S COVERED IN THIS GUIDE?

Macau to Hong Kong by Shuttle Bus (Sea Bridge)

By direct bus with hotel pickup (chinalink).

travel from hk to macau

Normally, you can catch a bus at the HZMB. But if you book with Klook, you can be picked up at any of the following hotels or casinos:

  • Grand Lisboa Macau
  • Starworld Hotel
  • The Venetian Macao
  • Galaxy Macao
  • Sands Macao

The bus can take you directly to either Prince Edward in Mong Kok or Kowloon Elements in Tsim Sha Tsui. Note that you will also have to go through Immigration and Customs inspections.

Bus Fare: HK$ 158 to 160.

You can reserve a bus below.

travel from hk to macau

By Public Bus

  • Make your way to HZMB. Depends on where you’re coming from, you can take the 101X Bus, 102X Bus, or taxi to HZMB.
  • Board the shuttle bus to Hong Kong (Lantau Island). MOP65 (regular times), MOP (midnight to 5:59am).
  • Take the B5 bus to Sunny Bay MTR station, Fare: HK$ 5.80.
  • Take the MTR to city center. If your hotel is in Central area, fare is HK$23.5. If your hotel is in Tsim Sha Tsui, fare is HK$ 16.

Note that you will also have to go through Immigration and Customs inspections.

If your hotel is in Tsim Sha Tsui (Kowloon) area, I recommend either the direct bus or the tried and tested ferries because the ports are much closer. Taking the public bus via sea bridge means you will be arriving in HK in Lantau Island, which is a bit detached from the rest of the city. You will have to take the another bus and MTR to reach the city center. That’s 3 transfers, which is cumbersome if you have heavy luggage.

Macau to Hong Kong by Ferry

1. choose your terminal in macau and hong kong..

There are two ferry terminals that you can use:

  • Macau Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal , located in Macau Peninsula. This is closer to the city center.
  • Taipa Terminal , sometimes called Cotai Terminal, just a short walk from Macau International Airport.

These ferries sail to any of these terminals in Hong Kong. These are completely difference terminals and a bit far from each other, so make sure you book the right one.

  • Hong Kong MACAU Ferry Terminal along Connaught Road Central, Sheung Wan area in Hong Kong Island.
  • Hong Kong CHINA Ferry Terminal along Canton Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon.
  • Sky Pier at Hong Kong International Airport. Exclusive to tourists only.

If your hotel is in Tsim Sha Tsui, choose the one in Kowloon so you will just have to walk. If your hotel is in the Central district, board a ferry bound for Sheung Wan.

2. Purchase a Ticket.

You can buy tickets at the terminal itself. Often, the fares are very similar. If they vary, only by a little bit. Even the travel experience is pretty standard and similar. It’s just a matter of travel time.

travel from hk to macau

  • Macau to Hong Kong Island/Kowloon: HKD 160 to 172 (in daytime) and up to HKD 211 (at night), one-way.
  • Macau to Hong Kong International Airport: HKD 270 (day time), HKD 300 (night), one way.

For tickets to Hong Kong Airport, if you want to score some discounts, you can book in advance online via Klook! For example, the regular one-way TurboJet fare is HKD 270. But with Klook, it’s only at HKD 263.

travel from hk to macau

3. Board the Ferry.

The boarding process is pretty straightforward. After getting a ticket, follow the signs to the boarding area. Usually, there are staff members that can point you in the right direction.

If necessary, check in your bags. For hand-carry, only one piece per person is allowed. I remember, however, that they let me through with a small backpack and a suitcase. I asked but they said I didn’t need to check in anything. Not sure if small backpacks are counted as an item or I just got lucky.

Luggage Restrictions for Carry-On Each passenger is allowed only one carry-on (hand-carry) bag.

  • Size : maximum 600mm x 200mm x 350mm
  • Weight : maximum 20kg.

Luggage Restrictions for Check In Each passenger is allowed 3 pieces of luggage for check in.

  • Size : maximum 76cm x 56cm x 23cm
  • Weight : 40 kg

You’re gonna have to go through the Immigration counters, too. Make sure you have your passport and the details usually needed in the arrival form including the boat name and number and your address in Hong Kong. Falling in line can take some time especially at peak hours so consider that when planning your trip.

When it’s time to board, find your seat. Your ticket has an assigned seat number.

The journey usually lasts 55 minutes for Macau-Hong Kong city center.

Useful Tips

  • Most seats have overhead compartments for bags and suitcases. Most, not all. I once had to hold my big bag on my lap all the way through.
  • If you suffer from sea sickness, take your meds before sailing. The current can be wild at times. I have seen passengers puking their guts out on the aisle floor a couple of times. It’s messy. You don’t want to be that passenger.
  • Check your seat number upon purchase. If you’re a group, even when you book the trip together, your seats may be super far from each other. This is probably a result of trying to fill the last remaining seats on the boat. I once traveled with my mom, who is an elderly, and a cousin, who was a first-time traveler. We booked together but we were assigned seats on completely separate aisles. I was so nervous that I would lose my senior mom and clueless cousin. We ended up waiting for everyone else to go disembark first before reuniting and getting out of the ferry together.

Is ferry in taipa terminal to hongkong operate 24 hours?

Yosh Dimen

Hi Marilou, ang alam ko, Taipa to Sheung Wan in Hong Kong, hanggang 1am merong sailing. Yun din sabi sa website ng Cotaijet. After 1am, 7am na yung next.

april

Hi, yung ferry ba from taipa to kowlooon travels every 30 mins??

Hi April, hindi. Mas konti na lang ngayon. Mas marami sa Macau Outer Terminal kaysa sa Taipa.

loid

what if wala po kaming accommodation sa Hongkong kasi by day time puta namin dun tapos babalik kami ng Macau sa gabi, hindi po ba mahigpit yung sa immigration kahit wala kaming accommodation doon? and if we go to the Macau Ferry Outer Terminal diritso na po ba sya or MRT pa din po kami? many thanks in advance

Hi Loid, yung experience namin, hindi naman mahigpit. Wala namang questions. Ewan ko lang ngayon. To be safe dala ka na lang ng proof of accommodation nyo sa Macau para pag nagtanong, sabihin nyo lang day tour and babalik din kayo the same day.

Dun sa 2nd question mo, what do you mean? Sakay kayo ferry sa Macau Ferry Outer Terminal tapos punta kayo HK. Whether sa HK Island (Sheung Wan) or Kowloon, may malapit namang MRT Station doon (may kaunting lakad though).

Pia Dela Cruz

Hi sa HK Disneyland Hotel kami naka checkin kong papunta kaming macau ano pong mas malapit sakyan ferry or bus papuntang macau?

Since may Sky Pier sa airport, halos pareho lang sya if you’re taking the MTR. Bababa ka rin sa Sunny Bay Station. Ang difference lang, if punta ka Sky Pier, magtransfer ka to another train. If yung bridge naman, transfer ka to bus.

Note however na limited lang ang number of sailings per day from Sky Pier. Ang pinakamaaga last time I checked ay 11am pa, so if gusto nyo mamaximize yung time, di sya ideal.

boy pancit

Hi im planning a RT trip Manila-Macau but will make it 5 days so I can visit HK for 3/5 days. If I enter Macao then go straight to HK then babalik again Macau for my return flight to Manila, will there be an issue sa immigration?

Hi Boy Pancit, usually, there should be no issue. I have done that before, going to HK immediately after landing in Macau. I had no problem.

Just make sure you have all your hotel bookings and return flight ticket, just in case they ask.

Kristine Liquido

Hello po. We booked tickets from cebu to macau and v.v., pero we’re planning to stay sana sa hongkong since cheaper daw hotels doon. Would that be ok po ba? wala po ba magiging problema? Then we will be arriving in macau late evening na po, would you suggest to go directly to hongkong? or stay muna sa macau till it’s morning?

Looking forward for your reply. Thanks po!

Hi Kristine, based on experience, okay lang po yun. Nagawa na namin na entry ay Macau tapos diretso kami HK after landing. Late evening din ung arrival ng flight namin.

Gerd

Do you have an understandable description for travelling HKIA to MAC b bus? Can I book bus as easy as ferry, leaving my luggage and bord, or do I have to carry everything to busstation. Is there customs clearence. Do busses go through to hotels or finish at border and I have to go by taxi or local bus? Tks

Jenny

Hi, ask ko lang yung update ng transportation fee from macao to hongkong via ferry?

Yep, updated.

Marah

Hi, tanong lang po if ever po we will purchase iventure card sa macau, magagamit po ba namin ang 15percent discount via Cotai terminal? And regarding din po sa iventure card (3days) included na po ba ang HK disneyland or sa iventure (5days lng)? Thank you

Andrei

If my flight is Manila to Macau and return flight is HK to Manila, may magiging problem po ba? Or need from Macau din ung return flight? Thanks..

Wala naman po. Pwede magkaiba ang entry and exit point. Just make sure meron ka lang ticket pabalik ng Pinas and hotel reservation.

Kristine

Hi ano po cheapest na mode of transportation from macau to hongkong?

Airene

Gano po katagal ang travel time from Macau to HK or HK to Macau by Bus?

Hi Airene, 30-40 minutes.

Mas mura po ba pag nagbus kami compare sa ferry?

Jhon Saramosing

Good day. We will be travelling going to Macau this September.Tanong ko lang po. Sa Macau kami maglaland tapos sa punta agad kami sa Hongkong , kasi don kami mag sta-stay sa HK.Okay lang ba yun?

Usually, there should be no issue. I have done that before, going to HK immediately after landing in Macau. I had no problem.

Jean Suico

Good day! Are there any other locations where we can buy the octopus card aside from HKIA?

Hi Jean, according to their website, it is available at any MTR Station Customer Service Centre (except Racecourse station).

laine

Hi, Macau po Entry namin 11:30PM arrival and plan is day tour sa Macau then HK na. So hindi na po kami check in ng hotel sa macau since ilang oras lang naman po kami doon. Here’s my questions & hoping to hear from you soon.

1.) San po namin pwede iwan luggage namin, mas okay po ba sa airport nalang para hassle free, then pagpunta HK, taipa to kowloon nalang ang ibook na ferry? 2.) Kapag via bus naman po, sobrang hassle ba pag may luggage, I think mas cheap kasi via bus.

1. Alam ko pwede mag-iwan ng luggage sa Venetian. May left luggage din sa Macau Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal.

2. Saan po ba kayo mag-stay sa HK? If sa Tsim Sha Tsui, mas okay pa rin ang ferry in my opinion. Ang dami kasing transfers ng bus, mas mahirap if may mga luggage kayong dala.

Karissa

Hi! Tanong ko lang po… regarding the ferry luggage restriction: May extra payment ba if ever i-chcheck-in namin yung mga luggage namin? Or does it come with the ticket fee na po?

Kits

Meron bang trip by ferry macau to hk airport?ano time ang first trip sa umaga?

You can find the schedule here: https://www.turbojet.com.hk/en/routing-sailing-schedule/hk-airport-macau/sailing-schedule-fares.aspx

Costa

If I take the ferry from Macau to Sky Pier , how far is the Airport from there and how long it takes to get there ? Thanks

Rother

Hi… Thank you for these information. I have a question, since the sea bridge ends in Lantau Island, malapit na ba ito sa Giant Buddha?

Anonymous

Hi po, any suggested booking site for bus tickets from Macau to Hong Kong? I’ve only seen 12go asia. Is that okay? Thank you!

U.S. Issues New Travel Advisories For These 3 Asian Destinations

Post may contain affiliate links; we may receive compensation if you click links to those products. This has no impact on how offers are presented. Our site does not include all offers available. Content on page accurate as of posting date.

Asia is home to some truly phenomenal places to visit, but travelers may want to think twice about 3 destinations with safety concerns.

This, of course, derives from the U.S. State Department, which has been dishing out travel advisories for multiple popular getaways in recent months.

These 3 new advisory updates are not quite as surprising, however, as there have been political rumblings regarding American tourists visiting here for quite some time.

That being said, we'll stick to the facts as we know it and set aside the political chit-chat for the talking heads who love flapping their gums.

The U.S. State Department just issued new travel advisories for these 3 Asian destinations:

Mainland China – Level 3

A lot can be said about China, and to be frank, there's more hearsay than a Johnny Depp lawsuit.

There's no denying how historical and amazing China is as an epic vacation destination, but the question is, “can they be trusted?”.

While we live in a free country where, ironically, it seems everything is ‘made in China', the opposite can be said for their citizens.

Tourists do not want to find themselves detained or treated wrongfully otherwise, which is the main concern of the State Department.

Tensions are running high politically and the fear is U.S. tourists can be used as pawns, facing risks of arbitrary enforcement of laws, wrongful detentions, and not allowing tourists to exit their borders.

As tempting as it may be now to visit now that the dark days of the pandemic are behind us, it's fair warning, at the very least, to do your due diligence and understand the risks and differences between our cultures and governments.

So, before crossing off ‘The Great Wall', the ‘Harbin Ice Festival', or ‘seeing pandas in the wild' off your travel bucket list, 2024 may not be the year.

Hong Kong – Level 2

China's government has enacted some extreme changes in Hong Kong, and the U.S. State Department's intelligence has picked up on further information, insinuating there will be even further action to “restrict civil liberties.”

So, how does this potentially affect Americans? Hong Kong is China's top destination despite not being entirely ‘Chinese', per se.

Typically, Hong Kong marches to its own beat as a ‘special administrative region' (SAR), but China has laid down the hammer in recent years, and more so in recent months, hence the concern from the State Dept.

Despite being a draw for tourists, there is a reason it's taken so long to make a comeback from a tourism perspective.

That would be because it's teetering towards mirroring mainland China, where the same concerns now apply to tourists.

Specifically, the State Dept. outlined new concerns over arbitrary enforcement of laws and to be wary of publicly criticizing Hong Kong or China under the new directive.

Macau – Level 3

All things considered, if there is a surprising destination to make this list, it would have to be Macau.

The reason is that China's other SAR has been on a fast track to becoming one of the region's tourism hotspots .

However, the truth is that Macau has been designated ‘Level 3' status by the State Dept., deeming it more risky for tourists than Hong Kong.

The popular destination commonly referred to as the ‘Vegas of Asia' is not all it's cracked up to be right now.

They say, “what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas”, but what may happen in Macau is you being forced to stay wrongfully under the guise of cherry-picking which laws to enforce.

And should you ever need emergency assistance, due to China's strict rules regarding U.S. personnel, you have very limited options where consular services may be delayed or completely off-limits depending on circumstances.

While Macau may be tempting to visit as one of the most entertaining cities on Earth, Las Vegas is a lot closer, a lot cheaper, and a lot safer, unless your name is Jimmy Hoffa.

Travel News: Macau roadshow to showcase new attractions, discounted airfares and hotel stays

travel from hk to macau

SINGAPORE – Macau, known as the “Las Vegas of the East” for its numerous casinos, is looking to woo Singaporeans with travel deals and experiences catered to youth and families at an upcoming roadshow.

Organised by the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) in collaboration with other partners, the Experience Macau roadshow will run from April 25 to 28 at Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre, from 11.30am to 9.30pm.

It will include booths showcasing tourist attractions such as Senado Square and The Venetian Macao, which meld the city’s Portuguese and Chinese historical influences into their architecture and lifestyle offerings.

These booths will be hosted by Macau’s tourism partners, including the Economic Development Bureau of Hengqin, Macau’s six integrated resort enterprises and Air Macau. Travel agencies such as Chan Brothers Travel and Nam Ho Travel will also be participating.

Additionally, the roadshow will include games, performances and a lucky draw, with prizes such as resort vouchers, hotel stays and cruise tickets.

Macau, which has a vibrant entertainment scene and rich cultural heritage, is aiming to welcome at least 33 million visitors in 2024 by marketing family-friendly attractions and wallet-friendly travel packages aimed at younger tourists.

The city had slightly over 22.5 million visitor arrivals in 2023, based on statistics from the MGTO. Of these, 91,219 were from Singapore.

Singapore is the eighth-largest international visitor market for Macau, which is located an hour away from Hong Kong by ferry.

Both Air Macau and Scoot operate direct flights between Macau and Singapore. Round-trip flights from Singapore to Macau on Scoot in May start at $232.15, based on checks by The Straits Times.

In celebration of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Macau Special Administrative Region, MGTO will be rolling out special deals on airfare, hotels, dining and entertainment. These will be available at the roadshow, on MGTO’s social media platforms and online at tourism partners’ websites.

Torrential rain battered southern China on Sunday, causing flooding and forcing tens of thousands of evacuations in the country’s most populous province, as a waterspout appeared briefly in Hong Kong and forecasters warned of potentially severe flooding.

Rain has been falling in Guangdong, which has a population of about 127 million, since last week. It intensified over the weekend, hammering the north of the province and the Pearl River Delta in the south, which includes Guangdong’s capital, Guangzhou, as well as the cities of Hong Kong and Macau.

The city of Yingde, in Guangdong’s north, received nearly a foot of rain from Friday to Sunday, the state-owned newspaper China Daily reported on Sunday . Nearly 20,000 people were evacuated and nine rivers were at risk of overflowing, it said.

In Guangzhou, the Longxue neighborhood received nearly five inches of rain over four hours on Sunday morning, the highest amount in the province.

The Beijiang River, a tributary of the Pearl River, flooded on Saturday night, China’s Ministry of Water Resources said on Sunday. As the downpour continued, the river faced a risk of an “exceptionally large” flood through Monday, the ministry said.

And in Hong Kong, a Chinese territory south of Guangdong, a waterspout was sighted over water by the local meteorological agency on Sunday morning. Waterspouts are whirling columns of air and water mist that form when cold air moves over warmer water, drawing up moisture.

There were no reports of the waterspout’s causing damage, and a rainstorm warning for the city was canceled at 2 p.m. But forecasters warned of violent winds and possible flooding.

Heavy rain was also affecting parts of the neighboring Chinese provinces of Guangxi, Jiangxi and Fujian on Sunday.

The heaviest rain was forecast to shift from the north to the east of Guangdong on Monday, and some areas could receive up to 10 inches of rain over 24 hours, according to the China Weather Network, an arm of the country’s meteorological authority. The rainfall was expected to begin easing on Tuesday.

Thunderstorms and sometimes heavy showers were also forecast for Hong Kong on Monday.
