We rate Voyager’s fleet fuel card 4/5 for its wide network coverage, and handy cheap gas station finder .

Owned by CSI (Corporate Spending Innovations) and issued and backed by US Bank, the Voyager Mastercard is one of the best fuel cards for monitoring fuel spend closely. Its biggest drawback, though, is its lack of discounts or rebates .

Formerly known as the Voyager Fleet Card, the Voyager Mastercard offers flexibility and customization on spending . Plus, thanks to the colossal Voyager network, this card can be used at hundreds of thousands of fuel and maintenance stations across all 50 states. Now that’s coverage!

We’ll explore the pros and cons in detail in this review.

Businesses Served by Voyager Mastercard

We can honestly say that the Voyager Mastercard is suitable for fleet operations of all sizes .

Why? Well, first of all, the card can be used at a (frankly incredible) 32 0,000 locations across all 50 states.

This is great for large businesses – particularly those that operate all over the country – as no matter where your drivers are, it’s likely that they’ll never be too far from a spot to fuel up. It’s thanks to this omnipresence that the card is so popular with commercial fleets, OTR fleets, aviation fleets, and government fleets. It also makes a suitable fuel card for trucking fleets .

Meanwhile, the flexibility offered by this program makes it a good fit for small fleets, too. With highly customizable reporting, purchase controls and payment options, small businesses can really tailor their Voyager Mastercard to their unique needs, in order to get the value they need out of it.

It’s worth noting that this program also supplies fleet cards to tax exempt qualified organizations , including government and nonprofit entities.

Voyager Mastercard Rewards and Incentives

The Voyager card is somewhat unique in combining purchase types: you can pay for gas, repairs, parking, and even toll fees . In our review of ExxonMobil , we noted that it offers both a Mastercard and non-Mastercard, while Voyager’s card combines these two different payment methods in one card.

Here’s what Voyager’s fleet fuel card program can offer you.

Advanced spending controls

This is a fuel card program that gives you plenty of control over how much your fleet can spend, helping you to slash fuel and maintenance costs wherever you can.

Rather than just setting a single blanket spending limit, you can choose separate limits for each individual card, based on the following:

• Whether the card can be used to buy fuel only or both fuel and maintenance services
• How many purchases can be made per day
• How many dollars can be spent on each purchase
• How many dollars can be spent in a day
• How many dollars can be spent in a week
• How many dollars can be spent in a month

You might find this particularly helpful if you have both part-time and full-time drivers, and so would expect your part-time drivers to spend less.

Customizable reporting

Fleet managers who use Voyager’s card program will also gain access to the Voyager Fleet Card online portal. Through the portal, managers can track invoices and previous transaction details, as well as view reports on drivers, vehicles, and how many miles per gallon they are achieving.

Secure purchase authorization

Purchases made with your Voyager Fleet Cards can be as secure as you like, with drivers asked to give ID prompts of your choosing to prove they’re legitimate card holders.

At the point of purchase, you can decide what your drivers are asked to give. Options include:

• Odometer readings
• Trip numbers
• Vehicle numbers
• Employee numbers
• A combination of these

If you’re feeling lucky, you can even let your drivers make purchases without having to give any ID info – though we’d advise against this.

But does the Voyager Fleet Card program offer fuel cost rebates?

Sadly, no . Though most fleet card programs give you a few cents back for every gallon of fuel you buy, we’re disappointed to say Voyager doesn’t .

Voyager’s appeal hinges on purchase control settings being enough to save on gas costs. We’re not really so sure that’s good enough, given all fuel cards give you more insight into and control over your fuel spending. It’s true that Voyager’s card gives you slightly better control over spending than other brands’ cards.

A note on distribution

It should be noted that the Voyager Fleet Card is  distributed through Voyager Fleet partners  – in other words, third party companies.

While your Voyager Fleet Card program will always offer the benefits listed here, it’s worth being aware that these distributors do have the power to add  their own service charges  to your program.

More often than not, you’ll plump for a distributor that’s local to you – but it’s worth doing your research, and finding one that doesn’t pile on any additional fees.

Have we mentioned that over 320,000 stations nationwide (including 60,000 maintenance locations) accept the Voyager Fleet Card? We have? Well, it bears repeating – especially now we’re onto the subject of finding stations.

Put simply, this awesome coverage makes it extremely easy to find a station that’ll accept your Voyager Fleet Cards. Stations are available in every state, and are easy to pin down using US Bank’s online Voyager Merchant Locator . You can also use the free app – Voyager Mobile – which is available for both Apple and Android users.

The Voyager Merchant Locator enables fleet managers and their drivers to filter station searches by fuel type and available amenities. Results are shown on a digital map, and you can even check the current price of your fuel at each location that pops up.

It’s worth being aware, though, that a large proportion of Apple Store customer reviews for the Voyager Mobile app are less than positive – they complain the app is glitchy and sometimes doesn’t work, and overall, it’s been rated a measly 3.3 stars. It’s 3.5 on the Google Play Store.

How To Use A Voyager Fuel Card

If you have never used a Voyager fuel card before, you might be wondering what to expect when you first try using your card at the pump. Fortunately it’s nothing too exciting. The Voyager fuel card operates much like an ordinary credit card, but we figured it would still be helpful to through together step-by-step guide so you know exactly what to expect.

How To Use A Voyager Fuel Card At The Pump

When at a gas station or truck stop, simply swipe your fuel card in the card reader at the pump. Once you have swiped your fuel card, you will be prompted to enter the following information in this order:

• Pin number: This is the pin number assigned to you by your manager.
• Odometer reading: The current odometer reading displayed on your vehicle’s odometer.
• Vehicle number: The number of your assigned vehicle

Once you have entered the information above, the pump will activate and you can begin to fuel your vehicle.

After you are done fueling, hang up the nozzle and continue on your route.

How to Spot a Credit Card Skimmer at Gas Pumps and Avoid Getting Scammed

Spotting credit card skimmer

As gas prices soar to unprecedented levels, drivers are vigilant not only about the financial impact but also the looming threat of gas pump skimmers.   

These fraudulent devices, known for compromising credit card information, are commonly placed by thieves on or near card readers at gas pumps and ATMs. Mitigating the risk of falling victim to gas pump skimmers often involves opting to pay inside the gas station, a precautionary measure that demands a few extra minutes.   

Deceptive devices

Credit card skimmers are deceptive devices attached to point-of-sale terminals, enabling criminals to extract card information during transactions. These skimmers operate by capturing data from the magnetic stripe of your credit card as you swipe it.   

Chris Hauk, a consumer privacy advocate at Pixel Privacy, explains that skimmers are commonly affixed to gas pumps and other unmonitored point-of-sale devices, allowing perpetrators the time to discreetly install the device without detection. Gas skimmers, like their counterparts, surreptitiously gather credit card data when customers make payments. Paul Bischoff, a privacy expert at Comparitech, describes these devices as magnetic stripe readers placed over legitimate card readers.   

Transaction

During a transaction, both the skimmer and the authentic reader capture the card details without arousing suspicion in the customer, as transactions appear to proceed as usual. The inconspicuous design of skimmers ensures that victims remain unaware of the breach, with the stored credit card information retrieved by the perpetrator at a later time.  

Fraudulent activities

Once a thief obtains your credit card information through a skimming device, they can engage in online fraudulent activities, utilizing the stolen data to make unauthorized purchases on the internet.  

Magnetic strip

Despite the chip technology present in many credit cards, skimmers target the magnetic strip for data extraction. To mitigate risks, it is advisable to avoid using the magnetic strip reader whenever possible and opt for chip-enabled transactions.  

Chip readers

Implementing a comprehensive strategy to combat gas pump skimming includes utilizing chip readers on pumps, selecting visibly located pumps within the gas station premises, such as those near the cashier's window. High-visibility pumps pose a challenge for skimmer attachment, reducing the likelihood of unauthorized data collection.  

Permanently

Gas pump skimmers are designed to blend in with the point-of-sale hardware, appearing bulky, plastic, protruding beyond the machine, and featuring misaligned arrows. These devices may also exhibit a loose or wiggling fit, as they are not permanently affixed to the machine.

Paul Bischoff highlights the importance of vigilance in detecting skimmers, suggesting a gentle tug or examination of the card reader for abnormalities. Despite external skimmers being a common threat, individuals, including those trained in surveillance techniques, remain susceptible to falling victim to gas station scams through various methods of credit card skimming.  

Investigating

Despite expertise in investigating gas pump skimmers, a Secret Service agent fell victim to gas pump fraud twice, underscoring the difficulty even for trained officials to detect these devices. Robert Siciliano, CEO of ProtectNow, notes a concerning trend where gas pumps are increasingly targeted internally, with skimmers placed within communication lines to intercept card data transmitted online.  

Amidst concerns about fuel efficiency and vehicle maintenance, it is crucial to allocate time during gas station visits to inspect the pump for potential skimming devices. Recognizing signs of tampering is essential in uncovering gas pump skimmers. Before proceeding with payment at the pump, scrutinize the point-of-sale terminal for any irregularities.  

Thorough inspection

Observing the surrounding machines and comparing the card-reading slots and keypads can reveal discrepancies that may indicate the presence of credit card skimmers. Vigilance and thorough inspection are key in safeguarding against potential fraud at gas pumps.  

Securely closed

Prior to fueling up, examine the lockable door on the pump, typically used by attendants to load receipt paper, to ensure it is securely closed without any irregular gaps that suggest tampering. Some gas stations employ tamper-resistant seals on the door as an additional security measure, although this practice may not be universal across all stations.  

Check the point-of-sale machine for stability and ensure that all components are securely attached without any signs of movement. Taking a moment to confirm the integrity of the machine can help prevent potential skimming incidents.  

Hidden cameras

Stay vigilant for hidden cameras that thieves might install to capture your PIN entry, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding sensitive information during transactions. Being mindful of these security measures can enhance your protection against fraudulent activities at gas pumps.  

Remain vigilant

Enhancing your awareness of credit card skimmers and their deceptive tactics is a crucial initial step in safeguarding yourself against gas pump fraud. It is advisable to remain vigilant whenever using public payment stations or when your card is out of sight, as perpetrators may exploit such opportunities for skimming.   

For instance, if a shop employee takes your card to a separate location for processing, they could potentially be using a skimmer. Additionally, pumps located out of the gas station attendant's direct line of sight provide thieves with the chance to install skimming devices unnoticed.  

Recommendations

To ensure your safety while refueling, consider the following expert recommendations: Opt for pumps situated closest to the building, as they are typically within the view of employees and less likely to have been tampered with. If possible, avoid using a debit card and instead opt for a credit transaction to minimize risks.   

Debit transactions

Credit purchases offer a delay in payment and often come with zero fraud liability, unlike debit transactions that immediately deduct funds from your account. Implementing these precautions can help mitigate the risks associated with using your card at gas pumps.  

Regularly monitoring

To mitigate the risk of scammers using skimmed cards for online transactions, LifeLock suggests setting up alerts for "card not present" purchases exceeding $100. Regularly monitoring your statements, especially in crowded areas like subways and airports, is also recommended by Siciliano to detect any unauthorized activities promptly.  

When possible, avoid using PIN pads and opt for chip-enabled cards or Apple Pay for enhanced security. Chip cards offer a safer alternative to swiping, while Apple Pay generates unique transaction codes for added protection against fraudulent activities.  

Consider purchasing gas station gift cards if you frequent the same gas stations regularly. These cards do not contain personal information and have limited value, reducing potential losses in case of a security breach.  

Secure payment

Gas apps provide a secure payment option at the pump, offering a safer alternative to traditional payment methods. Incorporating these practices can enhance your protection against card skimming incidents at gas stations.  

Federal Trade Commission

If you suspect that your card has been skimmed, it is essential to report the incident to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) promptly. By reporting the issue, you not only protect others from falling victim to scams but also aid in dismantling skimming operations.  

Timely monitoring

Installing mobile apps for your accounts provides a convenient method to track your transactions. However, regardless of the monitoring approach, regular scrutiny of your statements is crucial. Timely monitoring can determine whether you incur any out-of-pocket expenses as a result of fraudulent activities.

SHOPPERS are being advised to use their cell phones to detect credit card skimmers after the devices were found at a Massachusetts gas station.

A gas station in Brookline, located 20 minutes outside of Boston , recently discovered scamming devices were being used to steal several customers' credit card information from January 16 to March 15. 

Credit card skimmers are devices placed on pin pad machines that steal personal information using Bluetooth technology. 

Once users input their card and pin, the information gets sent to an external recorder via Bluetooth.

Skimmers look similar to keypads and range in size, making it hard to tell if one is on the card machine you're using. 

If you’re using a gas pump that has a skimmer, there’s no way to protect yourself after you’ve inserted your card.

Card skimmers are most commonly found at gas stations or ATMS, but can also be found at self-checkout machines or restaurants. 

Since card skimmers can be hard to locate by eye, Brookline police are helping customers find an easier way to detect skimmers by using the Bluetooth capability of their cell phones. 

The police posted a video to Facebook explaining what a card skimmer is and how to detect it. 

“In your settings, if you open Bluetooth and hold your phone close to the pump, it should pick up the skimmer device with the code HC-05 or something similar,” Sergeant Rob said in the video.

The officer advises customers not to connect to the HC-05 Bluetooth and instead report it to the gas station. 

The Brookline police advise hiding your keypad when entering your PIN to avoid your transaction being recorded. Apple or Google Pay is recommended over using a physical card.

On top of checking via Bluetooth for credit card skimmers, try to stick to gas stations or ATMs you’re familiar with.

SKIMMING ON THE RISE

Card skimming is on the rise across the United States.

In 2023, the total number of compromised debit cards was up 96% from 2022, according to FICO .

Compromised cards caused by ATMs were up by 90%.

Last week , two scammers were arrested right outside of Houston on charges related to credit card skimming. 

Not only did the pair of scammers place a credit card skimmer internally in credit card machines, but they also inserted a camera into the card readers to record users' transactions. 

Protect Yourself

Protect yourself from credit card skimming

• Check available Bluetooth connections on your phone's settings
• If HC-05 or something similar appears, then that pump has a credit card skimming device attached to it
• Do not use that pump and report it to the gas station or store

About 60% of skimming occurs at privately owned ATMs typically located in convenience stores or other privately owned establishments, according to United Credit Union .

Most credit card companies also offer alerts of possible fraudulent activity happening on any accounts.

HONG KONG – A Hong Kong transgender activist on Monday received a new ID card reflecting his gender change, after a yearslong legal battle to change the document, and he vowed to continue working for equality for the LGBTQ+ community.

Henry Tse won his appeal over the government’s refusal to change the gender on his ID card in February 2023. Previously, Tse was not able to make the change because he did not undergo full gender-affirmation surgery.

Last year, the city's top court said the government's policy was unconstitutional in a landmark ruling , arguing it imposed an unacceptably harsh burden. The judgment prompted an easing of rules earlier this month.

Tse's victory is seen as an important step forward for the city's LGBTQ+ community, many of whose transgender members consider the operation unnecessary and risky.

After obtaining his new ID card, Tse told reporters that life has not been easy since he lodged a judicial review in 2017. In addition to the legal challenges, he has also faced obstacles from the government and attacks from others.

“What is normal for many people has finally become normal for us,” Tse said.

Public sentiment in Hong Kong has become increasingly welcoming to the LGBTQ+ community, but many still face challenges in daily life.

Tse said bank staff told him he did not match his ID card and asked him to resubmit documents. He also could not change the gender on his travel permit to mainland China , which caused him a delay when crossing the border. Immigration officials searched their computer for 15 minutes, he said, before finally letting him enter.

In April, the Hong Kong government revised its policy to allow people who have not completed full gender-affirmation surgery to change their genders on ID cards as long as they fulfill certain conditions. The conditions include the removal of breasts for transgender men, the removal of the penis and testes for transgender women, and having undergone continuous hormonal treatment for at least two years before applying.

Applicants also have to continue their hormonal treatment and submit blood test reports for random checks upon the government's request.

Tse, after receiving his new ID card, said he would start changing his other documents, including his passport and bank details. The activist, who was previously active in sports, said he might sign up for a gym membership too.

“It's a return to normal life,” he said.

A military tour – riding on tanks in Stupino (Moscow region)

Russian Military is one of the largest military forces in the world formed in 1992. With my Military Tour experience what it likes to be in the Russian military, shooting guns, ride the Tank T-34 and various models of German tanks from the Second World War, as well as armored personnel carriers and vehicles. You will also shoot from the AK-47 and another combat weapon.

The tour will begin with your private tour guide Moscow in a Soviet army van accompanied with some tasty snacks and tea for a tasty start. Upon arriving, you will have to put on the army safety clothing and climb the Russian armored vehicles. The tour will take you on the noisy, smoky tank, driving through mud roads.
