• Private Guided Tasting: Available for groups of 10 or more with optional food menu.

King Family Vineyards

• Winery Tour & Tasting : A behind-the-scenes glimpse into the vineyard and winemaking programs. Available for groups of 2-12. Tours are not private unless all spots are booked by one party.
• Founders Tasting : A seated, intimate tasting hosted in King Family's private library and led by one of the winery's founders. Available on Saturdays or by appointment.
• Private Reserved Tasting : A pre-reserved offering in the indoor Pavilion with a King Family Associate. $100 or 4 guest minimum.

Merrie Mill Farm & Vineyard

• Guided Tasting : An intimate tasting led by a Merrie Mill Associate. You will be guided through each wine with detail in addition to enjoying a thoughtfully selected and paired cheese and charcuterie board. Reserve ahead of time.
• Wine Tasting & Vineyard Safari : A one-of-a-kind tasting experience! Take a vintage safari Land Rover to tour the 12-acre vineyard before arriving at a safari-style tent for a guided tasting of 7 wines and a delicious picnic. The safari is offered seasonally, weather-permitting.

Michael Shaps Wineworks

• Small Group Guided Private Tasting : Visit Michael Shap's Main Tasting Room (1650 Harris Creek Road) for a private tasting for groups of 6-20. Charcuterie can be arranged. Larger groups can also be accommodated for larger events.

Pippin Hill Farm & Vineyard

• Vintner's Table : A 4-5 course meal of chef-inspired fare for parties of 10 or more. The perfect agritourism experience.

How to Plan Your Charlottesville Wine Tour

Planning any kind of event is the hardest part. Deciding what to do, where to go and who to invite are not always the fastests or easiest decisions, especially if the event being planned is a surprise celebration. Luckily, we’re happy to help. While we can’t tell you who to invite, we can help you decide where to go if a Charlottesville wine tour is on the agenda.

It’s a good idea to plan on spending most of the day on your tour. Most of our groups leave out of Richmond going to Charlottesville so there will be roughly an hour and a half ride on the front and back end. Most groups spend between 1 and 3 hours per vineyard with an hour and a half being the typical average.

Factoring time bewteen stops is important. Depending which wineries you’ve chosen for your wine tour, there could be anywhere from 15 minutes to 45 minutes or more in ride time from one winery to the next. Remembering this when you’re planning is a must.

Always allow extra time. The day you spend wine touring is supposed to be relaxing and worry free so make sure you allow a little extra time. Don’t plan down to the second so you’re having to “watch the clock” all day.

About the Wineries

Choosing your destinations. If you already know what you have a taste for then that makes it easier. We have a lot of groups who’ve never been on a Charlottesville wine tour before so we have lists a suggestions for you to try.

Remember that most wineries require reservations for parties bigger than 6. We always suggest reserving a spot at the wineries you plan on visiting. Some vineyards have very limited space and cannot accept large groups. Make sure you check with each winery about their capacity limits and reservation policies ahead of time to avoid disappointments.

Mount Ida Farm & Vineyard

Pippin Hill Vineyards

It’s not only the award-winning wines and exquisite mountain views that have helped build Pippin Hill’s reputation as one of the Charlottesville area’s premiere wineries. Grace Estate Winery

Many Charlottesville-area wineries claim rich history, but none date as far back as Grace Estate’s. Owner John Sheffield Grace traces his lineage to the 11th century with Odo, Earl of Aumale, Count of Champagne. Three wine collections are named to honor Grace family ancestors, and grapes to make those wines are grown at the 50-acre Mt. Juliet vineyard. The estate mansion remains the Grace family home and also serves as a venue for elegant events.

Septenary: The Winery at Seven Oaks Farm

Stinson Vineyards

Founded by the father/daughter team of Scott and Rachel Stinson, Stinson Vineyards offers small-lot wines with a distinct French influence. Rachel Stinson and her husband, Nathan Vrooman, use traditional French winemaking methods including whole berry fermentation for reds and sur lie aging for whites, emphasizing subtlety and complexity over the power and super-ripeness of West Coast wines.

Cardinal Point Vineyard and Winery

A multi-generational passion project, Cardinal Point was conceived while Paul and Ruth Gorman were living in Europe with their son, Tim. The vineyards were planted more than three decades ago. The Loop begins at Crozet’s Downtown Square near Starr Hill Brewery and continues to: King Family Vineyards, Valley Road Vineyards, Veritas Vineyard, Pro Re Nata Brewery (includes Hops Kitchen food truck, Blenheim wine and Blue Toad cider.)
