9:00am – Dubai Frame

Begin your visit to the city with one of the top places in Dubai, the iconic Dubai Frame that overlooks the entire city. The Dubai Frame is the largest picture frame on the planet!

The frame forms a doorway of sorts between Dubai’s storied past, its vibrant present and the city’s bright future. On one side, visitors can see the modern Emirates Towers and Burj Khalifa, while ancient Deira and Karama can be seen on the other.

The frame has become a true emblem of the city and sits at the top of many travel wish lists (and features in many an Instagram post)!

Cost – Dhs 50 ($14) for adults, Dhs 20 ($6) for children over the age of 3, and free entry for infants and visitors with disabilities.
Getting there: Take the metro to Al Jafiliya and walk for 5 minutes to Zabeel Park in Zabeel.
How long you should stay: 30 minutes should be enough to get a good photo.

10.00am – Dubai Garden Glow

Experience this unique celebration of light where artists from across the globe have contributed incredible creations.

This illuminating venue has a heart for the environment with many exhibits being eco-friendly.

Walk through the parks many shimmering zones as you admire giant floating jellyfish moving with the music over Zabeel Lake, or admire the sight of a mini sparkling Burj Khalifa.

You can explore the stunning Glow Park, the largest glow-in-the-dark garden in the world, where millions of energy-saving bulbs and endless sculptures of recycled luminous fabric fill the pathways with light!

Then, head to the Art Park, which is made of recyclable bottles, ceramic dishes and CDs, all designed into incredible artworks.

Finish your visit to Dubai Garden Glow with a walk round My Dubai, a glittering recreation of Dubai, in a park that feels like it was plucked out of a fairytale (especially with a life-size replica of Cinderella’s glowing carriage)!

Insider Tip: Look out for the new additions to the park, some colorful characters from Disney’s colorful repertoire.

Getting there: Take the metro to Al Jafiliya. The Dubai Garden Glow is a 16-minute walk away.

12:00 pm – Dubai Museum of Illusions

Enjoy an incredible trip through mind-bending illusions and fascinating tricks of the light at the Dubai Museum of Illusions.

Visitors are encouraged to interact with exhibits and take tons of pictures, which you will definitely want to do.

With more than 80 uncredible exhibits that take you through a visual, sensory, and educational world to trick your brain, entertain and make you think. Play with perception at the Chair Illusion or enjoy the unbelievable sight of the Split Nose face-changing mirror (where your face is spliced with a person on the other side).

Enjoy the novelty of the Ames Room, where a trick of perception makes one person giant and the other tiny. For the videographer in you, check out the Color Room for some exceedingly awesome illusion of color and shadow!

Don’t miss out on the hilarious Maple exhibit were a fascinating mirror trick lets you have dinner with yourself. The incredible museum is also home to the world’s first Zoetrope exhibit where you can step into a movie stars shoes as you become part of an animated sequence!

Cost: Dhs 80 ($22) for adults, Dhs 70 ($19) for senior citizens and Dhs 60 ($16) for children.
Getting there: Take the metro to Al Fahidi and walk for 5 minutes.
How long should I spend there? 1-2 hours.

2.00pm – Arabian Tea House Cafe

Enjoy tasty cuisine from a diverse menu in their quaint courtyard. The ambiance of this tea house is serene and the staff is willing to help. The food is delicious, affordable and you get a decent-sized plate. Don’t forget to try Moroccan tea!

Getting there: it’s a 5 minute walk from Sharaf DG metro station.
How long should I spend there? 1-2 hours

4.00pm – Burj Khalifa & Dubai Fountain

You can’t visit Dubai, the city known for its incredible architecture, without checking out the Burj Khalifa ! It is home to the world’s highest restaurant!

As the world’s tallest building with numerous awards for its feats of height, the spectacular skyscraper makes for an incredible sight! It is also the home to the pretty amazing Dubai fountain illuminated by 6600 lights, 50 colored projectors, which illuminate the tower as spouts of water shoot through the air.

The Dubai Fountain Show is one of the best attractions around the Dubai Mall. It puts on quite the show to the sound of classical and contemporary music, and holds the crown as the second-largest choreographed fountain in the world!

The Burj Khalifa also has an amazing observation platform with a view to match. Literally, At The Top on the 124th floor is decked out with an electronic telescope and an augmented reality device where visitors can view the surrounding landscape in real-time.

You can also admire the impressive skyscraper from a spot in the lush park surrounding it, which is designed in the shape of a Hymenocallis, a fitting desert plant. The park also has a water feature at its center with a series of pools and a serene water jet fountain!

Insider Tip: the best time to visit the Burj Khalifa is to watch the sunset but between 4 pm and 6 pm, it is also prime time so reservations are more expensive.

Cost: Dhs 135 ($37) for adults, Dhs 101 ($28) for children and free for toddlers under 4 years old for a tour round At The Top; you can book tickets here.
Getting there: Burj Khalifia is located in Downtown Dubai, next to the Dubai Mall. Take the Red Line to Burj Khalifa Metro Station and then take the F13 bus to the Dubai Mall Bus Stop (one stop).
How long should I spend there? 1-2 hours, then you can dive into Dubai mall for some A/C!

7.00pm – Dubai Water Canal

Take a stroll along the beautiful Dubai Water Canal as it winds along from Old Dubai, through Downtown Dubai, Business Bay, and meets the sea on Dubai’s coastline. The bridge created a new island in Dubai when it was created.

Take in the sight of the canal’s unbelievable automated waterfall, which falls back like a curtain as boats pass under it! There is also the stunning pedestrian bridge adorned with a shimmering blue arc draped lights, which illuminate the water below you. The pedestrian bridge is suspended by cables and makes for an amazing photo spot!

You can also explore further along Dubai’s landscape as you follow the Dubai saltwater creek, which winds like a ribbon across the city. The gorgeous canal with its cloak of lights makes for one of the best places to visit in Dubai at night!

Cost: it’s free!
Getting there: take the red line on the metro to Business Bay metro station, then walk towards Sheikh Zayed Road. There is a path by the bridge that takes you to the canal.
How long should I spend there? 1-2 hours, it’s a great place to catch the sunset!

The second day of our Dubai itinerary will take you to the Dubai Mall where you will see a whole host of attractions. You could spend a whole day there, but because you’re on vacation, I’ve selected some cool outdoor attractions to visit too.

10.00 am – Dubai Marina

Begin your second day in Dubai at the lapping water of the Dubai Marina, one of the best places to visit in Dubai for free! t is the home to some incredible Dubai architecture including the unbelievable Cayan Tower, which twists at 90 degrees.

This stunning canal was built along the Persian Gulf shoreline and you may even be able to spot some incredible sea life as you enjoy the view!

The sun-kissed promenade is well worth the fantastic views of the bay, where you can experience the perfect blend of beach and vibrant urban activity.

You can take a leisurely stroll down the immaculate Jumeirah Beach Residence Walk where top-quality boutiques and unbelievable restaurants are the order of the day, then find Dubai Marina’s gorgeous beach waiting for you at the end of it!

Getting there: take the metro to Damac Properties Station and cross the overpass.
How long should I spent there? 1-2 hours should be enough.

11.00am – Dubai Miracle Garden

If you’re looking for a Dubai attraction that may literally take your breath away, the Miracle Garden is the answer.

The Miracle Garden has the Dubai Butterfly Garden inside, which is the world’s largest butterfly sanctuary, with over 15 000 butterflies from 26 species!

Explore the giant park with what seems like an endless collection of flowers. Colors cascade across the garden with floral animals and incredible sculptures covered in blossoms create a dreamlike landscape!

You can wander at the Lost Paradise, a village of bungalows and houses, which are engulfed flowers of every color. This burst of color on Dubai’s landscape is also the home to a giant model of the Emirates A830, which is painted with a splash of blossoms, while an incredible floral clock stops time as you explore this flower-strewn wonderland!

As if this place could get more fantastic, there is an 18 m high Mickey Mouse who gazes over the garden’s visitors! The park just happened to be launched on Valentine’s Day and aptly has the iconic Heart’s Passage, where larger-than-life hearts create an amazing walkway that feels everlasting.

Floral animals graze in front of a glorious floral castle in this dreamy park, which is truly a ‘must-see’ in Dubai!

Insider tip: make sure you keep an eye out for the new addition of colorful characters from Disney’s famous movies.

Cost: Dhs 50 ($14) for adults, Dhs 40 ($11) for children under 12 years old, free for children under 2 years old and people with disabilities.
Getting there: take the metro to the Dubai Mall of the Emirates station and walk.

For the ultimate meeting of 2 worlds, why not take a trip to Ski Dubai, a snowy oasis in the middle of the desert!

The ski park is a snowy oasis beneath one of Dubai’s biggest malls – The Dubai Mall.

Hidden like a treasure in the Dubai Mall (which is already one of the most important places in Dubai) awaits this indoor playground for kids, adults, and skiing newbies.

In fact, it’s the perfect place to learn with less pressure than a real mountain, and trainers to help you find your feet. Then again, if you’re a pro at snow sports, it’s got some real doozies for you to enjoy.

You can stick to more traditional activities like skiing, snowboarding and tobogganing, or take a ski lift out of your comfort zone with zip lining, tubing, or an old-fashioned snowball fight! The Snow Park is a winner with giant zorbing on offer as well as exploring an ice cave or getting an adrenaline rush on the Mountain Thriller ride.

The stunning island paradise extends into the shimmering Persian Gulf and is part of a family of Palm Islands including the Palm Jebel Ali and Plam Deira. Ride the uber fast monorail from the mainland and bask in the sandy paradise.

These man-made wetlands are a glorious escape from Dubai’s urban hub where 10 km of lakes make for an unbelievable sight. The reserve is the safe haven to 19 animal species including elegant flamingos and other incredible birdlife.

It is also the home to the amazing Saruq Al Hadid Archaeological Site withall kinds of artifacts including bronze, copper and iron items as well as gold jewelry, beads and pottery. 2.00pm – Wild Wadi Waterpark

Take your thrill factor the maximum at the incredible Wild Wadi Waterpark where having fun and cooling off are top priority!

Home to Breaker’s Bay, the biggest wave pool in the Middle East. Created the Burj Surj, a double-bowled slide which is the first of its kind in the area. The park was featured in 3 seasons of The Amazing Race.

The theme park is based on the tales of Juha, a character from Arabian folklore who accompanies each heart-fluttering or jaw-dropping water slide. You can even learn to surf on one of the park’s artificial surfing machines, FlowRider.

The park is among impressive company with neighboring, Burj Al Arab, but with its unbelievable 18 m high waterfall, it fits right in! Wild Wadi is also home to a list of incredible rides including the Jumeirah Sceirah (the highest free-fall water slide with the biggest drop outside of the Americas).

Up the ante even more with the Tantrum Alley slide, which just happens to include 3 tornados!

4.00pm – Global Village

Take a trip around the world from this incredible corner of Dubai. With exhibits, attractions and cuisine representing 90 cultures from across the globe, Dubai’s Global Village makes for a world-class day out.

The park has some sensational themed rides including the Athen’s Slingshot or the Honolo-loop.

The stunning Wheel of the World displays incredible live scenes, shows and Dubai scenery on its LED screen, and the views from one of its gondolas are incredible. Performers from across the world share their traditional dances and music in a variety of cultural shows!

The lively festival takes place along a number of pavilions where cuisine and entertainment from the representing countries are at your fingertips. Enjoy a meander through the park as you enjoy attractions from the floating market to the Heritage Village.

There are also some stunning shows on offer including incredible stunts and Circus Circus. Then, find yourself an unbelievable ride to go on at Carnaval! Enjoy the rhythmic vibe of the Global Village as you traverse the streets of what could be described as an open-air museum!

The village is also a paradise for lovers of street food with an adventurous palette. Take a walk down Kiosk Street or Cultural Square and find yourself some not-so-local cuisine. You can also discover some delicious flavors at every pavilion as you eat your way across the world.

Give Canadian poutine a try, which is a mouthwatering mixture of crispy French fries covered in cheese curd, gravy and toppings of your choice. Check out the Flaming Pumpkin for a refreshing drink on your travels and then, if you needed any more convincing, get yourself a shot of something tasty the Chocolate Injection!

You can admire the impressive Burj Al Arab as you bask in the sandy haven of Kite Beach. Walk along the pristine white sand or engage in one of the many ocean activities including kitesurfing, beach tennis, paddleboarding, wakeboarding, volleyball, kayaking and swimming. Aptly named for everything this beach has to offer, the gorgeous piece of Dubai is situated in gorgeous Jumeirah.

7.00pm – Evening Desert Safari Tour

Since it is smack dab in the middle of the Arabain desert, the weather of Dubai can be quite harsh, making it hard to decide when in fact is the best time to visit .

Dubai summers are oppressive, almost unbearable sometimes, and will often leave you trapped indoors. The best places to visit in Dubai in June, July and August will all have air conditioning and sometimes even artificial snow!

Dubai’s winter months are the most comfortable time of year and are comparable to summers elsewhere. Most of Dubai’s landmarks will be very busy though as this is peak tourist season. Plan a visit to during Dubai’s winter season but be ready to spend lots of cash.

The best months to backpack Dubai are hands-down during the spring and autumn. Dubai’s shoulder seasons are comfortable, not too hot, and not too busy with tourists. As such, these are the best times to visit Dubai’s beaches. Dubai in May starts to heat up again so take note.

It’s no surprise that Dubai is a pretty big city with loads of interesting attractions to see and do. Luckily, getting around is super easy, thanks to its well-developed public transport network spread throughout all parts of the city.

The metro is the most commonly used public transport in the city. It connects most neighborhoods and it’s just two lines, so it’s really easy to navigate and it’s also the most cost-effective way to get around. They are clean, ultra-modern, and safe. Women can choose to use the women-only carts if they want to. Plus, it connect you all the way to Dubai International Airport.

Another way to get around the city is by taxi. Uber and Careem are the common taxi service apps in Dubai. They are more expensive than a licensed taxi usually, but they offer a flat rate, which means if you get stuck in traffic you’re not paying for it. As a rule of thumb, Careem is less expensive than Uber if you’re travelling shorter distances and Uber is less expensive than Careem for longer distances.

Finally, another way to get around Dubai is by taking the bus. There are a total of 1,518 buses in Dubai, running on 119 internal lines, including 35 lines connected to the metro stations. Buses are a cheap way of getting around, but they require a bit of searching to make sure you’re on the right bus. As Dubai is so hot and it’s no fun waiting around in the scorching heat for a bus, I recommend you get the metro and Ubers. Plus they are so cheap it makes perfect sense!

Coming prepared is one of the most important parts of travelling, no matter where you want to go. Although Dubai is considered to be one of the safest cities in the United Arab Emirates. It is also known as one of the safest middle eastern destinations for women and travelers in general. However, it is still wise to take precautions and know the country you’re visiting while traveling abroad.

It is recommended that travelers who visit Dubai, especially women, dress fairly modestly in public, and bathing suits are only allowed on the beach and at hotel pools. While women are generally safe in Dubai, It is also a good idea to avoid situations that can place you in a more vulnerable position. If traveling alone, ask to be seated in the family section and try to sit in the women’s section at the front of the train.
There can also be unpredictable driving behavior in the United Arab Emirates, so keep an eye out for reckless driving. Pickpocketing is fairly rare in Dubai, but pay attention to your surroundings (as is always wise when traveling), especially around the tourist hub, Jumeirah Beach.
While Dubai is fairly cosmopolitan in many ways, they remain highly conservative, so try to avoid PDA because if someone is offended by it, you can get charged/fined. It is also forbidden to eat in public during the daylight hours of Ramadan, however, most hotels provide a screen in their restaurants so foreign guests can eat during the day.

Dubai is considered to be friendly and safe for the most part, but make sure you check out all the rules and tips for traveling there before you go. I’ve systematized the Dubai itinerary in such a way that you get to see all of the city’s main attractions, discover the top city neighborhoods, go on a day trip to Abu Dhabi, and even be part of off-road adventures such as desert safari.

But, not all travelers have the same interest. So, use this 7 days Dubai itinerary as your base to add more experiences or swap attractions at your relaxed pace.

7 DAYS DUBAI ITINERARY IN DETAIL

Below is the day-by-day breakdown of the Dubai itinerary, including things to do, alternatives, and places to visit, ideal for families, kids, and couples, apart from solo travelers.

Day 1: Dhow Cruise

Head to Dubai Marina or Dubai Creek for Dhow Cruise

After you check in to your hotel in Dubai , relax in your room to overcome jet lag and then step out for a laid-back evening dinner cruise before starting your Dubai itinerary. Although you can choose from two cruise spots, I highly recommend you to go on a dhow cruise at Dubai Marina , one of Dubai’s happening hotspots.

As this two-hour cruise begins, delight in the breathtakingly illumed city skyline views while relishing buffet dining and traditional shows like Tanura onboard. To avoid hassles, make sure that you add hotel transfers when booking your dhow cruise.

As this is your first day in Dubai, I don’t suggest you get active or do anything insane. That said, if you are an adventurist and can manage to reach here early (at Dubai Marina), you can choose to add activities such as XLine Dubai, which is worth trying, being the world’s longest and fastest urban zipline.

Day 2: Old Dubai & Desert Safari

Dubai is a super stylish modern city, but its well-preserved historical attractions across Old Dubai are a must-experience. Following this, head to Dubai Creek, just a few blocks away, where you can take an abra ride to reach the other side of the creek, i.e., Deira. You can take a taxi or board a metro as well, but this cruise offers a pleasant experience and won’t cost you more than AED 1.

After you have had your fill of culture and shopping, keep your evening for a thrilling desert trip . With all transfers and the most exciting cultural experiences included, a desert safari in Dubai is probably the perfect way to culminate your culture-and-history-inspired day out in Dubai.

The main draw is an electrifying session of 4X4 dune bash and adds to these activities like camel ride, sandboarding, and dune buggy ride. You further get to watch traditional entertainment (like Tanura), savor buffet BBQ dining, and participate in activities including henna tattooing, Shisha smoking, etc.

Day 3: A Day At Palm Jumeirah

Don’t restrict your Dubai holiday to just the city sights. You can easily add a few day trips to your Dubai itinerary, thanks to the excellent connectivity. Be sure to venture out of Dubai; it assures you of a refreshing escape from the glitzy pictures for a few hours. One of the top recommendations is to head towards Abu Dhabi. It is not only the UAE’s largest emirate but also the largest city. Consider taking a full-day Abu Dhabi city tour through a reputable tour provider.

With transfers to and from your Dubai location included, it covers almost the entire of Abu Dhabi, with a stop at the iconic Sheikh Zayed Mosque (also known as Grand Mosque), and Heritage Village and photo ops at the region’s top attractions such as Emirates Palace Hotel , Abu Dhabi Corniche, and Yas Island. We opted for the later tour and night views and loved this experience!

3. Dubai Water Parks

Dubai has two major water parks – the Aquaventure at Atlantis The Palm and Wild Wadi near Burj Al Arab and the Jumeirah Beach Hotel.

The price of the two parks is about the same and I really cannot say which one is better. We visited Aquaventure and loved it. If our kids had been taller, we would have definitely tried both parks (many water slides have 120 cm (a bit less than 4ft) height limit, but there are still really nice water play areas for the younger kids too).

Whatever you decide, make sure to book your tickets in advance as they are much cheaper online than at the entrance of the park.

TIP: It’s worth noting that the entrance to Aquaventure is included for all hotel guests of Atlantis The Palm. If your family really likes waterparks it might be worthwhile looking into booking this hotel. In a less busy season and for families with up to 2 kids this might be a great option. Unfortunately, recently, they really hiked up the prices of the hotel. In any case, it’s worth checking the availability and prices for Atlantis The Palm if you haven’t booked a hotel yet.

TIP: Consider checking the prices for a family stay at the Jumeirah Beach Hotel as well. Guests of this hotel enjoy complimentary access to Wild Wadi Waterpark. The same is true for the guests of Burj Al Arab Hotel , however, this luxury hotel is in a totally different price category…

While you can see most of Dubai’s attractions individually, taking a city tour is a nice way to see all the main sights in a short time. We did a city tour one day at the beginning of our trip and it gave us a good overview of the city and the places that were potentially worth going back and exploring more.

There are several options for Dubai city tours, ranging from hop-on hop-off busses, guided city tours, and private tours… Some tours focus on the modern city, while some others bring you to the old town, or offer a combination of both…

Old Dubai is so very different than the modern parts most of the tourists visit. If you want to get a taste of more traditional Dubai, the way it was just a few decennia ago, don’t miss it!

Here are some of the best Dubai city tours:

Old Dubai Culture, History, Souks & Street Food Walking Tour . This is one of the best tours of the historic Dubai. We recently did it and I can say that their itinerary and food choices were great.
Half-Day Blue Mosque, Creeks & Souks Tour . This tour offers the quickest way to see some of the highlights you’d probably miss otherwise.
Magical Dubai 8-Hour Tour with Burj Khalifa Experience. Similar tour to the previous one, but it’s longer and also includes tickets to Burj Khalifa and Dubai Aquarium.
Dubai: Hop-on Hop-off Bus Tour (1 to 7 Days) . This is a good way to see Dubai at your own pace.

Dubai Marina area is one of our favorites in the city. There are several ways to explore it: on foot, by bicycle, by water bus, or by boat.

There are many companies running these tours. And yes, they are oriented toward tourists, but it’s a really nice experience. If you choose well, it may not cost that much more than just a regular dinner at the restaurant (check this post for more information about how much everything costs in Dubai ).

Luxury Dubai Marina Dinner Cruise – the most popular option for dinner.
Alexandra Dhow Cruise in Dubai Marina is one of the best options we found when looking for a more local experience when we visited. The boat is a traditional Arabic wooden dhow and you get to see a live traditional Tanura dance performance as well. Once again, it’s tailored for tourists, but so is everything in Dubai.

We took this dinner cruise and really enjoyed it. There are many companies offering dhow dinner cruises, but most have really poor ratings. We chose this dinner cruise because of the good reviews and excellent price/quality ratio. It’s also one of the best options for families – kids under 6 travel free, and kids under 12 get a discount.

You can find similar dinner cruises on Dubai Creek as well. But we found that the Dubai Marina area is a much nicer and more spectacular place to be in the evening.

Take the scenic cable car to the island and admire the various beautiful residences on Palm Island. Take a look at the endless sea views on both sides on the sightseeing cable car, and take a photo with the Atlantis Hotel at the end point. In addition to boats and helicopters, the most economical way to get to Palm Island is the Palm Island Sightseeing Cable Car. Although it is called a cable car, it is actually an unmanned light rail with only three stops, which can directly reach the Atlantis Hotel on The Palm from downtown Dubai. Business hours The operation time of the sightseeing cable car is from 10:00 to 22:00 every day. Each station stops for 3 minutes for passengers to get on and off. Also, you can see a few palm fronds are bare, there are no buildings on them, and some are just artificial islands that have just been filled. When the sightseeing cable car approaches the terminal Atlantis Water World Station, the scenery of the Atlantis Hotel on the left and the Water World Water Park on the right will shock your eyes. Let’s kick off this solo female travel guide by discussing if traveling to Dubai alone is even worth it.

When solo travelers consider visiting the Middle East , it is fairly typical to feel a few nerves. After all, this region does not get the best press in western media.

In my opinion, that is a shame. I’ve had some of the best travel experiences of my life in the Middle East, particularly in Dubai.

Dubai is a great place to dip your toes into solo travel in the Middle East . It has everything a visitor could ask for, and then some: a welcoming culture, incredible architecture, interesting history, rugged nature, and adventure activities galore.

Additionally, English is commonly spoken, and the infrastructure is modern and reliable.

I originally went to Dubai not necessarily expecting to ever return back; but now, many years later, I’ve visited the United Arab Emirates countless times. I’m continuously impressed by Dubai, and I’m willing to bet that you will be too!

Where Is Dubai?

Dubai is an Emirate within the United Arab Emirates on the Arabian Peninsula. Think of “emirates” as states – and Dubai is the best known one.

The city of Dubai is located within the Emirate of Dubai, and it sits next to Abu Dhabi, which is the nation’s capital. Dubai is also bordered by the Arabian Sea.

Best Time To Visit Dubai

Dubai is a great place to visit year-round, but you may opt for one season over another depending on the activities you plan to do.

Summer in Dubai

If you enjoy outdoor adventures , you will likely want to avoid the summer heat. Summers can be overwhelmingly warm if you aren’t used to it. Triple digits and scorching sun should be expected.

That being said, almost anywhere you visit indoors will be expertly air-conditioned, such as hotels, malls, restaurants, and attractions. Be aware that some outdoor attractions are closed in the summer.

Winter in Dubai

The most pleasant weather is found in the winter months, between November and March. It’s the best time for outdoor activities and sightseeing.

But with the comfortable temperatures comes larger crowds. The winter season is when most tourists visit Dubai, so your accommodation and tours may carry a higher price tag during this time.

Getting To Dubai

Dubai International Airport (DXB) is the central hub in the Middle East, so you can catch flights here from just about anywhere.

Most cities in Europe and Asia have easy direct flights here, and even the USA’s larger cities have non-stop and connecting routes here. The airport is modern, clean, and easy to navigate.

Alternatively, Abu Dhabi’s airport sometimes offers cheaper flights, but be aware that it is at least one hour away from most places in Dubai.

Getting from either airport to Dubai is easy, either via taxi or Uber, and even the metro stops at DXB.

Getting Around Dubai As A Solo Traveler

Those traveling alone in Dubai will be happy to know it is an easily navigable city. If you only have limited time, you will likely hire taxis and Ubers to get around. These are reliable and safe.

If you have more time to spare and are traveling on a budget, consider taking the Dubai Metro . It is clean and simple, with different colored routes carrying passengers around the city. You can reach many of the major attractions from the Dubai Metro too.

Overall, Dubai is not an easily walkable city. Think of it like Los Angeles – certain pockets are very walkable, but you will need transportation of some kind to get from one area to another.

Is It Safe To Travel To Dubai Alone As A Woman?

One of the reasons that Dubai is an excellent place to travel solo is due to its safety. In fact, according to Numbeo , the risk of violent crime and even petty theft and robby are very low.

Note that while Dubai is known for being ultra-modern, it is still a Muslim country. Women should dress conservatively and cover shoulders, knees, and heads for mosques. And, in areas outside of Dubai, this is even more important.

While you may see other women dressing in a casual way, I typically see it as a sign of respect to dress in a way that locals would. This also helps you avoid unwanted attention when you’re traveling solo!

Additionally, don’t leave valuables out in cars, restaurants, or hotels when you are not present. It’s also wise not to wear flashy jewelry or carry tons of cash when traveling solo to avoid pickpockets .

And, as with anywhere, don’t go out late at night alone. While walking at night in Dubai is generally considered safe, it’s still smart to take precautions when on your own.

Overall, you can travel Dubai without worry, even if you are solo.

Where To Stay On A Solo Trip To Dubai

Wondering where to stay when going to Dubai alone? You’ve got plenty of safe options, both near to the tourist spots and in more secluded areas away from the hustle and bustle.

Dubai Marina

One of the best areas to stay for first timers in Dubai is near the Dubai Marina , which is within walking distance of the popular Marina Beach . You can also walk to a few popular attractions, like the Dubai Eye Ferris Wheel (Ain Dubai) — the world’s tallest observation wheel — and trendy eateries and shops.

This is also a good base to reach many of the other sights by car.

Top Things To Do Alone In Dubai

Dubai is known for being a modern, clean city with impressive architecture; but, there is much more to it than that!

It’s truly a city that offers something for every type of traveler. After spending countless months here, I have found some of the best things to do in Dubai as a solo traveler:

1. Go to the top of Burj Khalifa

You can’t visit Dubai and not see the world’s tallest building, the Burj K`halifa . While it is stunning from the ground, visitors have the option to ride up to the 148 th floor for some of the best views in the city.

Every evening at 6pm, you can catch the famous Dubai Fountain show in front of the Burj Khalifa. If you get a table at one of the restaurants inside the adjacent Dubai Mall , you will have one of the best vantage points. Just get there early as tables sometimes fill up.

Whether you appreciate architecture or just a spectacular view, the Burj Khalifa is a must see.

2. Explore outdoor public art

Dubai has a steadily growing art scene, and plentiful artworks have been cropping up around the city.

During my time enjoying Dubai solo female travel, I fell in love with the Wings of Mexico by Gorge Marin. Not only are the wings themselves beautiful, but the sculpture perfectly frames the Burj Khalifa and is a great photo spot.

Another unique artwork in Dubai is Mirek Struzik’s Dandelions . Located just outside of the Dubai Opera , the artwork consists of 14 giant steel dandelions. Stay until after sunset, when they light up in different colors that reflect the mood of their surroundings.

And near to the Dandelions is another piece called Declaration . Bright pink calligraphy is etched into a grey wall that depicts a saying from Sheikh Mohammed: “Art in all its colors and types reflects the culture of the nations, their history and civilization.”

3. Take an abra to Old Dubai

Old Dubai is, as you would guess, the older and more traditional side of the city. Though it has been getting a bit of a facelift over the years, this is where you can still find the old souks and shops from days before.

Take an abra, or traditional wooden boat, across Dubai Creek to explore the Spice Souk , which showcases a colorful display of aromatic spices.

Or wander the Gold Souk , where a labyrinth of shimmering gold jewelry is on display. Explore the ornate mosques and get lost in Al Seef’s alleyways.

Old Dubai is one of my favorite areas of the city. Don’t miss it!

4. Stroll the Dubai Miracle Garden

The Dubai Miracle Garden offers a stunning display of colorful flowers.

Closed during the summer, it’s the largest outdoor flower garden in the world — which is quite a feat, given that it is in the middle of a desert city.

Featuring endless flower species in every bright color you can imagine, the garden is absolutely breathtaking.

Shapes and characters have been sculpted through expertly cut leaves and shrubs, and you may even see animatronic dancers and animals covered in blankets of petals!

5. Book a desert safari

Whether you spend one day or one week in Dubai, make it a point to book a desert safari . For me, nothing says “Middle East” more than the stunning Arabian Desert .

You can choose from sunrise or sunset options, and both will include wild dune bashing — as in, driving at high speeds over the dunes — beautiful photo stops, and often a trip to a camel farm.

If you book the dinner safari, you’ll also be treated to a Middle Eastern buffet, a belly dancing show, henna tattoos, and more.

6. Visit the Jumeirah Mosque

If you are a first time visitor to Dubai, be sure to add the Jumeirah Mosque to your list of things to do in Dubai solo.

Dubbed by some as the “love mosque,” the Jumeirah Mosque has become a popular spot for newlyweds to take their wedding photos. You may catch a couple standing against the backdrop of its striking white facade, with intricate designs and towering minarets that seem to touch the sky.

I like to wander around the outside and inside, when allowed, of various mosques when in the UAE. The architecture is usually stunning, with plush carpets and Arabic calligraphy adorning the interior.

Be sure check the day’s prayer times to avoid disturbing any services.

7. Take a sunset cruise on Dubai Creek

As vibrant Dubai shifts from day to night, there’s no better way to witness the colorful sky than on a sunset cruise. Prepare to be amazed as you set sail with a backdrop of the cityscape against the fiery red sky.

Most tours, like these , serve a buffet dinner and provide entertainment as you glide along the tranquil waters of the Arabian Gulf. Bring your camera, as there will be traditional dancing, singing, and lively music on board.

You will also have the best views of iconic landmarks such as the Burj Al Arab or Old Dubai , depending on where you sail.

The Dubai Mall is an absolute behemoth. Not only does it house over 1,300 stores, but it also has its own aquarium, ice rink, and indoor theme park. Did you ever think you could ice skate in the desert? You can in Dubai.

Meanwhile, the Mall of the Emirates has it’s very own indoor ski slope, complete with man-made snow.

And if you’re looking to indulge your wanderlust while shopping, then the Ibn Battuta Mall is the spot for you. This gigantic mall is designed to look like different countries, with each section themed after a different region of the world.

So whether you’re a shopaholic or are just looking for an offbeat experience, Dubai’s malls won’t disappoint.

9. Visit the Dubai Frame

This incredibly tall architectural marvel is a must see. Looming over Dubai, the Dubai Frame captures the skyline of this magnificent metropolis within its boundaries.

This stunning attraction offers visitors a unique experience too: from 150 meters (492 feet) high, visitors can see panoramic views of the city, the desert, and the Persian Gulf on a clear day.

My favorite part about this structure is that Old Dubai sits in one direction, and modern Dubai sits in the other.

With its shimmering gold design and unparalleled views, the Dubai Frame is one of the best things to do in Dubai as a solo traveler.

10. Take a day trip to Abu Dhabi

If you have the time, I highly recommend taking a day trip to Abu Dhabi , the capital of the UAE. Here you will experience a more quiet and understated atmosphere, but with equally stunning views.

In Abu Dhabi, you can tour the Emirates Palace or stroll the Louvre Abu Dhabi art museum. You can also visit the Sheik Zayed Grand Mosque , which will wow you with its opulence.

Abu Dhabi also has several theme parks, like Ferrari World — which is perfect for car fanatics — and Warner Brothers World , which is home to the world’s largest indoor theme park.

Though very different than Dubai, visiting Abu Dhabi on a day trip will give you a deeper understanding of the country.

We know what it’s like to feel the need to take a trip back to nature after a long week of work in Dubai. Here are 10 easy day trips from Dubai , perfect for the whole family that have been tried and tested. And bonus – most are free!

Read on for our top, cheap family-friendly ideas for escaping the city on a day trip from Dubai. Pack a picnic, fill the car up and wear some comfortable shoes…..

10. Al Qudra Lake, Love Lakes and Expo Lake

Al Qudra Lake is a short trip from Dubai, only 30mins from the Marina. It can be just an afternoon or morning out with the family. Al Qudra desert is an oasis with ducks and lots of other birds, watch out for the flamingos. It can get really popular on weekends with campers and the Al Qudra road is lined with people selling firewood, charcoal and other camping requirements.

Love Lakes has a structured path which you can walk around (5km) so great for getting the steps in, a popular and easy day trip from Dubai!

Expo Lake is a bit further away, closer to the stunning Bab Al Shams desert hotel . It is quieter than Al Qudra Lakes and Love Lakes. We liked the oryx spotting tower and it is a lovely, early morning walk around the lake.

Practicals: 4×4 not required but some of the roads around there can have soft sand so do be careful if not in a 4×4. Pack a picnic and plenty of water, no toilets available in Al Qudra Lakes – go to Last Exit! Love Lakes and Expo Lakes have toilets.

9. Abu Dhabi

The capital of the UAE is only a short 45minutes down the road with much to offer for a day trip from Dubai. Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is a must-see, a simply spectacularly opulent building best seen as the sun sets. Yas Island has lots to offer with a beach, marina, restaurants and the popular Warner Brothers, Ferrari World and Water Park.

We have enjoyed the Emirates Zoo Resort when the kids were younger as there are lots of opportunities to get close to the animals. You can book breakfast with the giraffes. We also stayed overnight once which was an incredible experience. With lots to do in Abu Dhabi it is an easy day trip from Dubai.

8. Kite Beach Centre, UAQ

Who doesn’t love a beach day? This centre offers one of the most wholesome beach days in the area. Don’t be expecting waiters on roller skates or your own cooler box and towels. This place reminds us of Thailand and is perfect for what we know and love.

There are beach huts that can be reserved that have showers, hammocks and offer some well needed shade. The cafe is gorgeous and cooks up some amazing pizza from the wood fired ovens as well as lots of other delicious food. There are some small huts that can be rented overnight and you can bring your own tent and pitch up in a designated spot if you want to extend your day trip from Dubai. Practicals: Around 45mins – 1 hour drive from Dubai. Book beach huts well in advance especially for weekends. Dogs are welcome!

Sharjah has so much to offer and we love the fact that all the attractions are so affordable. It makes for the perfect affordable day trip from Dubai. Combine a few of the attractions so that you can get a full day trip from Dubai. Some of our favourites are Al Noor Island , Sharjah Aquarium and Maritime Museum, Rain Rooms Sharjah , Discovery Centre and a wander around Al Majaz Waterfront for a coffee or some lunch.

Sharjah Safari is the largest park outside of Africa. A vast space with many Arabian animals. The kids will enjoy the trip on the bus.

There is so much in Sharjah that is not difficult to fill up the day so definitely add this on your list for easy day trips from Dubai.

Practicals: Pre-book the Rain Room and make sure to combine with something else as it is a half hour visit. Only a 30-45minute drive from Dubai so great for a shorter family day trip from Dubai.

Hatta is one of the most popular day trips from Dubai. Hatta has taken adventure under its belt over the last few years and really invested in activities in the area.

There is the famous Hatta dam where you can opt for a tranquil kayak around, we love going early morning before the crowds. Hatta Wadi Hub has a range of activities on offer from zip lining, hammer throwing, high ropes to a giant water slide. There are numerous walking trails and mountain bike tracks – you can hire bikes there too. The addition of the mountain chalets, trailers , campsite and more recently the domes and caravans has given a range of accommodations as well as the renowned Hatta Fort Hotel.

Practicals: Around 1.5hours drive from Dubai. Hatta Wadi Hub is where all the activities are based as well as the walks and mountain bikes. We have camped here which is a good option as it’s one of the only campsites we have found in the UAE offering toilets, showers and BBQ pits – more of this please UAE!! The accommodation gets booked up far in advance so be sure to be organised.

An archaeological site in Sharjah where recent discoveries have led to information about how Bedouins used to live. The site is in the desert close to Fossil Rock, if you are confident desert driving to explore. Alternatively you can book a guide for dune bashing, walking tours and other trips. Before entering the archaeological sight go and explore the wadis and caves around (free), a short hike and then go to the museum with a/c to cool down, there is a 55dhs entry charge (for a family of 5) which is worth a look. Keep your eye out for the winter pop up cafes that are often in this area. They have also recently opened a glamping spot.

Practicals: 1 hour drive from Dubai (put in Waze), wear walking shoes, bring plenty of water – it is the desert so it’s hot, go early before the midday sun!

4. Wadi Shawka

A firm favourite day trip from Dubai for us. A valley in the mountains of Ras Al Khaima which has lots of ideal walking trails from beginner to expert. Download the wikiloc app for detailed trails. It has lots of parking, no need for a 4×4 and is a great spot even if you’re not big hikers. You can just go for a picnic and a little wander around, play in the park, see the dam and take in the mountain air. Practicals: 1.5 hour drive from Dubai (put into Waze), get there early as parking can fill up, toilets there, sometimes a coffee van, bring a picnic/bbq and lots of water.

3. Jebel Jais – RAK

Jebel Jais is the tallest mountain in the UAE, it gets busy with hikers, cyclists and motor bikes so go as early as you can. It can get cold in the winter in the UAE so make sure you take a jumper with you. There are some easy hikes at the top, a park and of course the zip lines – if you’re brave enough. There is also the new Jais Sledder which is amazing. Fun for the whole family.

Right at the very top of Jebel Jais is 1484 by Puro restaurant but you need to pre-book that before turning up. Worth adding to your list of easy day trips from Dubai for the freshest air in the UAE!

Practicals: A 2 hour drive from Dubai. The last 30minutes is driving up the mountain. Have the camera ready and pull in along the way to admire the views – watch out for the mountain goats. There are toilets, car park, playground, viewing points and a coffee van at the top.

2. Jebel Hafit

The most stunning, spiral drive up to the mountain peak offering impressive views of the Hajar mountain range in Al Ain . The drive is actually voted as one of the best in the world and Top Gear did a section about Jebel Hafit. Definitely worth the day trip from Dubai to check it out. At the foot of the mountain is the green mubazzarah which is as green as the name suggests, a rarity in the UAE. A perfect place for a picnic, to kick the ball about and enjoy nature.

Practicals: Around a 2 hour drive from Dubai to Al Ain, with the final 20minutes being the spectacular drive up the mountain. Stop at the various view points to take in the scenery.

1. Khorfakkan

Khorfakkan was named best Arab city in 2023. It is the perfect day trip from Dubai as there is so much to do here. Stop off in Al Rafisah dam on the way or way back there is a lovely cafe with views, go for a short hike in Wadi Sheesh nature trail, drive over to the corniche and check out the amphitheatre and old souk. Practicals: 1.5 hour drive from Dubai, fill up petrol and use the toilet before the last 45minutes as there’s not many places to stop! Combine a few activities in one trip.

When is Eid al-Fitr 2024 and how is it celebrated?

The three-day festival celebrates the completion of the fasting month of Ramadan by Muslims across the world.

As a new moon was not sighted on Monday evening after Maghrib prayers, Muslims in Saudi Arabia and neighbouring countries will fast one more day, completing 30 days of Ramadan. The first day of Eid will then be celebrated on Wednesday, April 10.

The first day of Eid al-Fitr is determined by the sighting of the crescent moon marking the start of the month of Shawwal, the 10th month of the Islamic (Hijri) calendar.

How do Muslims celebrate Eid?

Traditionally, Eid is celebrated for three days as an official holiday in Muslim-majority countries. However, the number of holiday days varies by country.

Muslims begin Eid day celebrations by partaking in a prayer service that takes place shortly after dawn, followed by a short sermon.

On their way to the prayer, which is traditionally held in an open area, Muslims recite takbeerat, praising God by saying “Allahu Akbar”, meaning “God is great”.

It is customary to eat something sweet before the prayer, such as date -filled biscuits known as maamoul in the Middle East. This particular festival is known as the “sweet” Eid – and the distribution of sweets is common across the Muslim world.

Each country has traditional desserts and sweets that are prepared before Eid or on the morning of the first day.

Girls and women in many countries decorate their hands with henna. The celebration for Eid begins the night before as women gather in neighbourhoods and large family gatherings for the application of henna.
