Aerosmith Announce Rescheduled Dates for Peace Out Farewell Tour
By Andy Greene

Aerosmith have announced rescheduled dates for their Peace Out farewell tour, which was suspended in September 2023 because Steven Tyler fractured his larynx. This new leg kicks off Sept. 20 in Pittsburgh and wraps up Feb. 26 in Buffalo, New York. They’ll once again be joined by the Black Crowes.
The band announced plans to wrap their career with one final tour in May 2023, but they played a mere three shows before Tyler severely hurt his larynx. “I am heartbroken to not be out there with Aerosmith, my brothers, and the incredible Black Crowes, rocking with the best fans in the world,” he wrote in a message to fans. “I promise we will be back as soon as we can!”

About Aerosmith
Celebrating their 50th anniversary, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame members Aerosmith have sold more than 150 million albums around the world, produced genre-defining music videos such as “Amazing,” “Crazy,” “Janie’s Got A Gun,” “Livin’ On The Edge,” and “Love In An Elevator,” and launched extravagant record-shattering global tours, most recently with their smash hit Las Vegas residency. The band has broken numerous boundaries, including becoming the first rock band with a massive commercially successful hip-hop collaboration with Run DMC on “Walk This Way” and the first hard rock band to appear during a Super Bowl Halftime Show with their 2001 performance, and in 1999, Aerosmith became the first band to have their own themed attraction at Disney World in Florida and later Paris with the launch of the Rock ‘N’ Roller coaster starring Aerosmith. About The Black Crowes
In 1990, when journalists were lamenting the death of rock, as cheesy pop and hair metal dominated the charts, Atlanta’s Black Crowes gave the genre a swift and much needed kick in the ass with Shake Your Money Maker . Fueled by singles “Jealous Again,” “Twice As Hard,” “She Talks To Angels,” and the break-through cover of Otis Redding’s “Hard To Handle,” the band immediately took the rock world by storm, topping Rolling Stone’s “Best New American Band Readers Poll” in late 1990. The Black Crowes went on to release eight studio and four live albums, selling in the tens of millions along the way; they sold out shows around the world; had legendary guitarist Jimmy Page join as a member; got kicked off a tour with ZZ Top for insulting the sponsor; got screwed by bad record deals; got married and divorced, fought amongst themselves and against the rest of the world. In other words, they’ve done everything a legendary rock group should do

Aerosmith are a blues-rock band hailing from Boston, Massachusetts, U.S who formed in 1970. They are regularly referred to as “America’s Greatest Rock and Roll Band” and are to this day one of the most successful touring rock bands in the world.
Most legendary bands should descend into a kind of caricature in their third decade of being a band. No-one can keep up a hell-raising reputation after they’ve passed the age where they would normally have kids and those that try are utterly hilarious for all the wrong reasons. That, and the fact that as time goes on we get other bands and artists being ever more outrageous in what they do and say. This means that it’s difficult for a modern day audience to read about what made last generation’s parents get up in arms about and truly understand why it was so shocking at the time.
However, that’s where Aerosmith come in. Aerosmith are timeless, they’re cool whatever your surroundings and when you look at them today, you still feel the kind of thrill you get when the most dangerous person you know winks at you. Put simply, Aerosmith are still a bunch of badasses 45 years into their career, and they won’t be stopping any time soon. The band began with The Toxic Twins themselves, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry, fronting their own bands, called Chain Reaction and The Jam Band respectively.
In 1970 the two bands played together on the same bill, and Tyler was completely taken with Perry’s band, which already contained future Aerosmith rhythm section Tom Hamilton and Joey Kramer on bass and drums respectively. Tyler wanted to combine the two bands and after talking it over, that’s exactly what he got. By October 1970, the band had moved in together, Monkees style, and started writing music and rehearsing for future shows. By 1971, they’d finalised the line up with the addition of Brad Whitford on the rhythm guitar, and the following year, by playing a gig in the presence of the head of Columbia Records Clive Davis, they got themselves a record deal.
January 1973 saw the release of their self-titled debut album. Pretty much immediately they gained a devoted following with a strong album and a decent sized hit with their single “Dream On”. That’s where their career stayed for the next couple of years, their raucous Blues-rock cutting out a fine niche for them and their live shows were as unmissable as they ever would be. 1975 would change everything. Their third album “Toys In The Attic” would take them from a jobbing but talented rock band to global megastars on par with Zeppelin and The Stones.
Ever since then they’ve been legendary for all the right reasons. They have the songs, the live show, the story and the legacy, everyone from Metallica to Motley Crue swear by their Aerosmith records and even Kurt Cobain was heavily influenced by their album “Rocks”. They’ve managed to weather any storm that a lifetime of rock and roll can throw at them and come out the other side with a live show that can still knock people for six. Knowing the habits that Tyler and Perry had in their prime, they’re lucky to still be around, but we’re lucky to have them around and rocking as well. Any self-respecting rock fan would do well to see this band as soon as possible.
Live reviews
When I heard that Aerosmith was playing in my area I decided to attend. Just so I could tell my kids I saw such a legendary band.
They are truly one of the legends of classic rock. The place was very crowded and the arena was sold out. The band started out with “Love in an Elevator” and then played the great song “Sweet Emotion”. Steven Tyler sounded great and Joe Perry was awesome on guitar. They had a tons of cool effects and lighting.
They also were really, really loud! My ears were hurting at some points during the show. They did “Dream on” and also played a lot of their 1990’s hits. They had one section in the set where they played like it was 1978 again and did the song “Train Kept a Rollin” which really brought the house down.
The crowd was great and it was a good mix of young, middle age, and older people. The band did several encores including “Walk this Way” and “Janie’s Got a Gun”. They played the classic video with Run DMC when they did Walk this Way.
The show was about 2 hours and it was great. But my ears are still hurting, they were really loud...

When Aerosmith have attained the reputation as "America's Greatest Rock and Roll Band", they clearly must have a live show that matches this lofty claim. Obviously their commercial success and iconic status goes without saying, but at the age of 66, can Steve Tyler and co really still wow fans?
Luckily, they still rock out with the intensity of a band 40 years their junior. From the bold opener 'Train Kept A-Rollin'' you know you are in for an energetic show that will keep you entertained throughout. Now a household name, Aerosmith treat audiences to a dose of nostalgia playing classics such as 'Livin' On The Edge' and 'Cryin''. Unfortunately my personal favourite 'Janie's Got A Gun' was not on the setlist but with no sign of slowing down, maybe they'll add it to future dates.
The combination of a cover of The Beatles' 'Come Together' and 'Walk This Way' made for a huge closer perhaps surpassable by many other bands considered to be in the same league as Aerosmith.
Wow!!!!! at his age Mr. Tyler can still bust a move, to the point where he split his snake skin pants in the rear. He maintained his sense of humour and pointed it out later to the crowd. What a guy!!! His singing voice is still paramount! He definitely loves to be the entertainer in front of a very large crowd. I do hope he continues for many years to come. He's still got it. More than that he will sing to members of the audience and throw out trinkets of memorabilia. There was never a dull moment at Big Music Festival in Kitchener on July 13, 2014. The band supports him totally as do his camera and prop people. Sorry to say, this was the first time I had an opportunity to see Aerosmith live, but God willing, it won't be my last. Flamboyant and fun is the easiest way to describe my experience at a live performance of Aerosmith. Steven Tyler loves what he does and always will.
I have been an Aerosmith fan since I was 2 years old, back in 1974, and I used to try to swerve my hips back 'n' forth à la Steven Tyler.
I have only had the chance to see them 3 times in my life, and it seems that every time they come in concert life whisks me away some place else!
So now I'm in Cyprus for a long time coming... and nearly nobody ever comes out to this little (amazing) island at the end of the Mediterranean sea. It's unfortunate as there are some true fans out here, and I'm sure the band would love to make a pitstop in this paradisal place.
@Aerosmith - PLEASE COME!!! It really is worth it here.
I have seen Aerosmith over 30 times!!! I am from Fl., in 2015 they didn't come to the east coast. So I went to the 2nd to last concert of "The Blue Army Tour" in Hildago,Tx.
It was the best concert by them that I have seen yet.
3rd row 3rd seat, Steven Tyler seemed and acted like he was a 25-year-old .
After 30 times of seeing them I felt like it was my 1st. He threw his harmonica to me and I went nuts.
I have to say that it was the highlight of my life. Next to having my son it was the best day of my life.
I can hardly wait until they come again.......it won't be soon enough.
So great! As usual. Living Color just a huge bonus. This entire Blue Army Tour had been something I will talk about forever. It's not over, nor am I. The show was so fabulous I intend on going to Vegas for certain and Ohio if I can get tickets.
Each show has been a packed-house: but they make you feel like your the only one there.
Living Color just starts starts it off with so much energy. The crowd is pumped. Aerosmith follows it up and keeps the entire show going.
Living Color had a new album coming. I can't wait.
Aerosmith are a legendary band and their concerts are full of energy and really entertaining. Sure, they are older and one can tell that it's not exactly the same anymore but to perform the way they do at their age... it's incredible. They leave everything onstage and it's a wonderful experience.
I recommend seeing them live if they're in town.
This was my first time I saw Aerosmith.. It was a fantastic show.. I were very impressed by there performance and the tempo they had.. Very sad it's their last tour because they are so fucking good and I want to enjoy there outstanding and professional performance more then this one time..
Aerosmith fan for life now!
This was amassing ! The best concert in my life !!! Go there you'll not regret !!!
I am from Armenia, but I live in Georgia now. So I couldn't buy a ticket first, it was sold out. Then when I found I was happiest person in the world. I was always saying that Tyler is the sexiest man in the world. He is still !!!

Aerosmith Announce ‘Peace Out’ Farewell Tour With Support From The Black Crowes
Aerosmith have just revealed an extensive North American farewell tour that will take the classic hard rock act through the rest of the year and into 2024. They teased it last week. The Black Crowes will support them on the tour. General on-sale begins May 5. Longtime Aerosmith drummer Joey Kramer , who's recently been absent from the band , won't be playing.
The announcement comes months after Aerosmith canceled the final dates of their multi-year " Deuces Are Wild " concert residency in Las Vegas due to Aerosmith lead singer Steven Tyler 's health. In a statement at the time, the performer was said to feel " unwell ."
Now, the band's getting back on the road…for the last time. See a video trailer below.
In a joint statement, Aerosmith shared, "It's not goodbye, it's PEACE OUT! Get ready and walk this way, you’re going to get the best show of our lives."
They added regarding Kramer, "While Joey remains a beloved founding member of Aerosmith, he has regrettably made the decision to sit out the currently scheduled touring dates to focus his full attention on his family and health. Joey's unmistakable and legendary presence behind the drum kit will be sorely missed."

Aerosmith Announce Rescheduled 2024, 2025 Peace Out Tour Dates
The band was forced to postpone all shows after frontman Steven Tyler suffered a fractured larynx
After previously postponing the the bulk of their final run last year, Aerosmith have confirmed their rescheduled Peace Out Tour dates. While the tour kicked off last fall to rave reviews and praise from fans, frontman Steven Tyler sustained a fractured larynx during the band’s performance at UBS Arena on September 9, 2023, just three shows into the band’s 40-date grand finale. As it turns out, Tyler’s recovery has taken longer than expected.
“To our fans: unfortunately, Steven’s vocal injury is more serious than initially thought,” the band said in a statement at the time. “His doctor has confirmed that in addition to the damage to his vocal cords, he fractured his larynx which requires ongoing care. He is receiving the best medical treatment available to ensure his recovery is swift, but given the nature of a fracture, he is being told patience is essential. As a result, all the currently scheduled Peace Out shows must be postponed to sometime in 2024, with new dates to be announced as soon as we know more.”
“I am heartbroken to not be out there with Aerosmith, my brothers and the incredible Black Crowes, rocking with the best fans in the world,” Steven Tyler said. “I promise we will be back as soon as we can!”
Now, Aerosmith have announced the new round of dates. The Peace Out trek resumes on September 20 at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where they already played at the start of the original run. The group will also be returning for an encore at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where the tour kicked off last year (check out highlights from the show in the clip below). A third addition to the trek will be a performance at the Kia Center in Orlando, Florida on February 11, 2025. The band will wrap up the 40-date trek on February 26, 2025, taking their final bows at the KeyBank Center in Buffalo, New York. The Black Crowes , who just released their new album Happiness Bastards last month, are still serving as special guests for the entire tour. Opening night in Pittsburgh will feature a special performance by Teddy Swims to kick off the evening, stepping in for The Black Crowes.
Check out the full tour itinerary below.
All previously purchased tickets will be honored at the rescheduled shows. Ticketholders will receive more information via email today [April 10]. Refunds will be available at point of purchase for fans who are unable to attend the new dates. Fans are encouraged to reach out to Live Nation/Ticketmaster, or the third party entities (e.g. StubHub, Vivid Seats, etc.) with any questions regarding refunds. Tickets for the rescheduled dates and newly added shows are on sale this Friday, April 12 at 10am local time. The tour will also offer a variety of different VIP packages and experiences for fans to take their concert experience to the next level. Packages vary but include a premium reserved ticket, limited edition merchandise and more.
While the band has been touring for over five decades, there’s still plenty of tracks that haven’t seen the lights of a stage yet. At the third stop of the Peace Out Tour at UBS Arena in New York, Aerosmith played a Draw the Line rarity, “Bright Light Fright , “ for the first time in 29 years. Guitarist Joe Perry handled the vocal duties. When the tour resumes in September, there’s still a tone of tunes that the band has never broken out of the their vault. Maybe when the Peace Out Tour resumes, the band will surprise fans with a song or two from this list of tracks that they have never played live.
“We’re going to open up Pandora’s box one last time to present our fans with the Peace Out Tour,” Tyler said when the trek was announced, referencing the band’s 1991 compilation box set. “Be there or be aware as we bring all the toys out of the attic. Get ready!”
Drummer Joey Kramer decided not to take part in the band’s final tour initially. While he is still considered part of the group, Kramer took a leave of absence from the band’s Vegas residency last year to “focus his his attention on his family and health” and will continue to sit out the band’s final run.” Drummer John Douglas filled in for Kramer during the the first three dates of the original Peace Out Tour, and it appears that he will continue to sit behind the kit this fall with the run resumes.
When the original trek was announced, Aerosmith stated, “While Joey Kramer remains a beloved founding member of Aerosmith, he has regrettably made the decision to sit out the currently scheduled touring dates to focus his full attention on his family and health. Joey’s unmistakable and legendary presence behind the drum kit will be sorely missed.”
The Rock and Roll Hall of Famers wrapped up their landmark Deuces Are Wild Residency in Las Vegas back in 2022, and played a special 50th anniversary show at Fenway Park. Now, fans are finally getting to witness the celebrations for themselves.
Aerosmith have 12 multi-platinum certified albums under their belt. To date, the band has garnered four GRAMMY® Awards, six American Music Awards, and ten MTV Video Music Awards. In 1999, Walt Disney World launched the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith, the band’s very own theme park attraction. In 2001, they performed at the Super Bowl Halftime Show and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Throughout a career that spans over five decades, the rock ‘n’ roll legends have sold over 150 million records worldwide, making them the best-selling American rock act of all time. Their music has transcended generations, and while they’ve been selling records since 1973, they band has just achieved a monumental modern-day milestone.
While vinyl and CDs have seen a tremendous resurgence over the last ten years, streaming has become monstrous manner by which people consume music. Since the launch of Spotify back in 2006, many artists have amassed hundreds of thousands of streams, and some hundreds of millions. Few, however, have achieved the rare achievement that Aerosmith just did – having a single song surpass 1 billion streams.
One of the band’s biggest hits, “Dream On,” has amassed 1,001,249,355 streams on Spotify. It’s a testament not only to the band’s legacy, but to their ability to achieve success in a new age and remain relevant right up to their farewell tour. The fact that “Dream On” is one of the greatest songs ever written makes this milestone a little bit less surprising.
After inking a deal with Columbia Records, Aerosmith released their self-titled debut album on January 5, 1973. Anchored by the lead single, “Dream On,” the album hit No. 21 on the Billboard 200. The seminal “Dream On” hit No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100, and dominated rock radio stations around the country.
“The music for ‘Dream On was originally written on a Steinway upright piano in the living room of Trow-Rico lodge in Sunapee [New Hampshire], maybe four years before Aerosmith even started,” frontman Steven Tyler recalls in the Aerosmith biography, Walk This Way , by Stephen Davis. “I was seventeen or eighteen […] It was just this little thing I was playing, and I never dreamed it would end up as a real song or anything […] It’s about dreaming until your dreams come true.”
Last month, Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash released a cover of Howlin’ Wolf’s “Killing Floor , ” the lead single from his upcoming blues covers album, Orgy of the Damned . The track features AC/DC’s Brian Johnson on vocals, and Steven Tyler on harmonica. The record arrives on May 17 through Gibson Records.
The band also announced in March celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the seminal sophomore outing, Get Your Wings (1974). To commemorate the milestone, Aerosmith to releasing a limited edition LP numbered 1-1974 on 180g custom color “gold sparkle” vinyl, featuring an embossed gold foil jacket, a 70’s-era logo sticker and a vintage ad replica inside. Each copy is uniquely numbered with gold foil and encased in black poly-lined sleeves, preserving the quality and sound of this iconic album. Includes the classics “Same Old Song And Dance,” “Train Kept A Rollin’,” “Lord Of The Thighs,” “Seasons of Wither” and more. All new merchandise is available for pre-order now, releasing on May 17.
Aerosmith’s Get Your Wings is certified triple-platinum by the RIAA. It marked the band’s first collaboration with producer Jack Douglas, who went on to produce the group’s next three iconic albums. Douglas was instrumental in shaping the sound that would define America’s greatest rock band for decades to come. Recorded at Record Plant studios in New York City, Aerosmith launched a tour supporting the album on March 9, 1974 at the Orpheum Theater in Boston, Massachusetts. The 74-show trek across the United States put Aerosmith on the map.

Aerosmith’s 10 Most Memorable Concerts
Aerosmith remains a phenomenon in concert. This was immediately evident as the group delivered an impressive performance on the opening night of their Peace Out farewell tour in 2023.
In one sense, a cocktail of drama and tension has often kept the band functioning in a unique fashion. But there was also clearly a brotherhood for many years which was an important contributor to the group’s songwriting -- and the connection of their stage performances.
These guys looked cool. It was impossible not to be drawn in by the unique chemistry between Steven Tyler , a whirling dervish and vocal marvel, who was forever feeding off the six-string machismo exhibited by Joe Perry . There was a certain magic when the whole band played live, with the quiet intensity of drummer Joey Kramer at the heart and bassist Tom Hamilton and guitarist Brad Whitford rounding out the offensive line.
Many concerts have been unforgettable. Sometimes it’s the music on stage, and in other moments, it’s the unknown milestones which transpired before, during or after the last notes faded away. Here’s a look back at some key moments in Aero-history.
Aerosmith's First Concert - Nov. 6, 1970 Aerosmith has long been powered in part by the group’s internal friction, especially between Tyler and Perry. The singer wrote in his 2011 memoir that the pair clashed “almost immediately” when they played their first official concert at Nipmuc Regional High School. At the root of the discord, according to both sides, was volume. “My ears are bleeding,” Tyler would tell the guitarist, regarding the volume of his Marshall amps. “Let ‘em bleed,” came the terse reply. Perry summarized the experience in his 2014 autobiography , “Sometimes I think Steven looked at this volume thing as a competition.”

The Day Aerosmith Got Signed - Aug. 5, 1972 Having inked managers David Krebs and Steve Leber earlier in the year, a showcase gig was arranged for Aerosmith to perform in front of several record label luminaries at Max's Kansas City in New York. Among those in the crowd, Columbia Records president Clive Davis, Atlantic Records founder and chairman Ahmet Ertegun and his label president, Jerry Greenberg. Reportedly, the band showed up that night and found they weren’t on the bill -- and paid to get a slot. Atlantic passed, but Davis offered Aerosmith a deal with Columbia on the spot, which was later revealed to be worth $125,000.

Fireworks in Philadelphia - Oct. 10, 1977 The main part of Aerosmith’s second night at the Spectrum in Philly went off without incident, but things changed drastically as they made their way back to the stage to play the encore set. As the band climbed the stairs, a cherry bomb went off. Tyler reportedly suffered a cornea burn, while Perry had a ruptured artery in his hand. A little more than a year later, the singer again was injured in Philadelphia. This time it was a beer bottle, which was launched from the balcony and exploded on the stage. Reaction was swift, though Tyler wanted to finish the concert. “The vote was four-to-one against,” Whitford remembered in the band’s book Walk This Way . “We were in the limos two minutes later. Fuck this."

Joe Perry Leaves Aerosmith - July 28, 1979 Aerosmith reportedly played the best show of their 1979 tour at the World Series of Rock in Cleveland -- it was also the night that things came to a boiling point between Tyler and Perry and the guitarist exited the group, putting a period on their first chapter. “I've never actually punched Joe, but that night I came really close,” Tyler recalled in Walk This Way . Backstage, there was plenty of drama, including an epic brawl between two of the band member’s wives. Years later, it was still hard for the bandmates to completely reconstruct the events, but Whitford offered up perhaps the best summary: “Being in Aerosmith was like walking into a dog fight and both dogs bite you."

Brad Whitford's Departure - Dec. 3, 1980 With guitarist Jimmy Crespo replacing Perry in late ‘79, the band had seemingly successfully moved on, but their fortunes were continuing to dwindle. Though Tyler had been in a motorcycle accident in August, the band came back together for their first show in nearly six months to celebrate the group’s 10th anniversary. The gig at Club Boston, broadcast nationally on the radio, was Whitford’s final performance with Aerosmith in this era. He showed up at the studio briefly in 1981 as the sessions for Rock in a Hard Place began, but it wouldn’t last. “It would take us 12 hours to do 20 minutes of work,” Kramer wrote in his memoir, Hit Hard . “Brad did some tracks with us, then he got disgusted and walked out.”

Aerosmith Debuts Their New Lineup - Oct. 31, 1982 Whitford was eventually replaced by guitarist Rick Dufay, a friend of longtime band associate Jack Douglas. The revised lineup, now featuring Crespo and Dufay, made their debut with an under the radar Halloween performance. They played more than 70 shows in support of Rock in a Hard Place , but it eventually became clear a proper reunion was taking shape in the background. Aerosmmith performed their final concert with Dufay and Crespo on Feb. 17, 1984 in Providence, Rhode Island. While Dufay, a longtime fan, encouraged the reunion, Crespo was unfortunately collateral damage. “I feel weird that we never sat down with Jimmy and said, ‘Man, you did fuckin’ great, but we gotta put the band back together and someday we hope we can make it right for you,” Hamilton wrote in Walk This Way . “Always meant to call him. Never did.”
The Classic Lineup Reunites - June 22, 1984 With Perry and Whitford finally back in the Aerosmith fold, the band booked 30 shows for an exploratory trek appropriately called the Back in the Saddle tour. After lengthy rehearsals in the Massachusetts area, the group made their official return to the stage for a two night stand at the intimate Capitol Theater, with a capacity of just 1,300. Band associate Tim Collins, who would play an important role in their overall resurrection, noted that Columbia Records wasn’t returning their phone calls, which sparked the idea to move forward with a tour. “We just said, ‘Fuck them,’" he told Rolling Stone . “We’re going to go on the road and get out of this contract.”

Entering the '90s With Jimmy Page - Aug. 18, 1990 After stumbling commercially with 1985’s Done With Mirrors , Aerosmith continued their retooling process. Permanent Vacation (1987) and Pump (1989) put them firmly back on top. The pinnacle of that era came when they played the annual Monsters of Rock festival in London in front of more than 80,000 fans. Joined by Jimmy Page for the encore, the band’s journey came full circle. The legendary Led Zeppelin guitarist showed up again two days later when they played a secret show at the 650 capacity Marquee Club. "Our soundcheck was about five hours long," Perry remembered in 2015. "We played every Led Zeppelin and Yardbirds tune we knew with Jimmy. It was just amazing."

Aerosmith in Turmoil - Aug. 5, 2009 Aerosmith’s 2009 performance at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally tore open fissures that had been developing within the organization. Sound issues started midway through the set and Tyler turned his showman skills up, dancing to entertain the audience. As he was completing his steps, he took a tumble from the stage. A subsequent examination revealed a broken shoulder and the rest of the tour was scrubbed. Word emerged that Tyler wasn’t communicating with the rest of the band -- and by November, he’d reportedly left the group. By December, he was in rehab -- and they’d eventually mend fences to tour again in 2010.

Joey Kramer's Last Ride - Feb. 15, 2020 Kramer began having health problems during the 2014 Let Rock Rule tour. Continuing issues not only affected Kramer’s availability to perform, but frayed his relationship with his bandmates. In 2019, drum tech John Douglas took his place during a stint of the band’s Deuces Are Wild residency in Las Vegas. Things got ugly in January 2020 when Aerosmith prevented Kramer from performing with them during the Grammys, with the drummer even briefly suing his bandmates in response. Cooler heads eventually prevailed and Kramer was performing with the band once more less than a month later. The Feb. 15, 2020 concert appears to have been his final show with the band. Kramer bowed out of Aerosmith’s 2022 concerts and is not participating in the band’s farewell tour.

“Alright!” shouted a clearly excited Chris Robinson last week as the Black Crowes performed on stage in Chicago. “Friday night at the rock and roll show!”
Following last month’s release of their latest studio album Happiness Bastards , their ninth, the Crowes performed Friday night in Chicago at Aragon Ballroom about halfway through the U.S. leg of their current tour, a lengthy jaunt set to take them abroad next month ahead of fall and winter dates in support of Aerosmith’s rescheduled “Peace Out” North American farewell tour.
“When we saw we were coming back to the Aragon, we were very excited,” said Robinson late, noting the group’s first performance in the picturesque room in almost 25 years. “And we’re very excited to have Glyders opening for us. They’re from this town, check them out,” he continued, lauding the work of the Chicago-based, psychedelic garage rock trio (as a cardboard cutout of Chuck Berry looked on from the venue’s balcony).

“Cheers, everyone!” said bassist Eliza Weber early. Singer/guitarist Joshua Condon and drummer Joe Seger would soon find a groove during standout tracks like “Geneva Strangemod” and “High Time,” both from their 2023 full-length debut Maria’s Hunt.
Since we were first introduced in 1990, the Crowes have tallied a pair of platinum albums and three gold records, with Happiness Bastards , the group’s first studio album of original material in nearly 15 years, a worthy addition to their unique brand of southern-fried rock and roll.

“There’s a little town about 90 miles south of Atlanta called Macon, Georgia,” Robinson explained Friday night in Chicago, spotlighting the group’s roots. “Little Richard is from Macon. And the Allman Brothers Band,” he began, just one day removed from the death of co-founding Allman Brothers guitarist Dickey Betts. “But there’s another: the greatest soul singer of all time, Otis Redding,” he continued. “Well, we jumped on that song and it goes like this,” said Robinson, setting up a late take on one of the biggest Black Crowes hits in Redding’s “Hard to Handle.”
While recent tours celebrated their Shake Your Money Maker record, this one makes the case for the new project, with the Black Crowes performing six songs from it over the course of about 95 minutes on stage Friday in Chicago.
As they do on the album too, “Bedside Manners” and “Rats and Clowns,” two of Happiness Bastards ’ more rollicking moments, kicked things off Friday night.

Performing as an 8 piece group, drummer Cully Symington and keyboard player Erik Deutsch were set beside backing vocalists Mackenzie Adams and Lesley Grant atop a unique two-tiered stage built to resemble stacks upon stacks of vintage amplifiers and audio equipment.
Frontman Chris Robinson, who performed in front of a large mirror, was joined on stage by guitarists Rich Robinson and Nico Bereciartua as well as longtime bassist Sven Pipien. Festive lighting strung over, along and behind the stage flanked the group who performed under a massive “Happiness Bastards” banner hanging from the lighting rig over the stage.
“Good to see you all. Welcome to the ‘Happiness Bastards!’” said Chris early in Friday’s set. “We’ve got some new songs and we got some old ones - like this!” he said, shuffling left before pointing right at Rich on the slide guitar, ultimately bunnyhopping in reverse back to center stage as “Twice As Hard” rang out early in Chicago.

Robinson was in fine form Friday, a rejuvenated frontman shimmying about while delivering a still impressive lead vocal, with the new music cementing a once unthinkable rebirth for the Black Crowes, who’ve continually staked their claim as one of America’s best rock acts since reforming in 2019.
From 1996’s Three Snakes and One Charm , “Nebakanezer” was an early highlight in Chicago. The gnarly dual guitar riffwork of “Horsehead,” from 1999’s By Your Side followed, providing one of Friday’s more rewarding one-two punches.

While “Oh Josephine” slowed things down momentarily, “Thorn in my Pride” found the group beginning to roll, with Chris on harmonica as the Crowes delivered an all hands, Stones-like jam to close the cut.
“Everyone say hello to Rich Robinson,” said Chris, gesturing toward his younger brother. With a wave of his right hand, Rich greeted the rapturuous Chicago crowd, soon strumming in the familiar opening licks to “She talks to Angels” on acoustic guitar.

From the new record, “Flesh Wound” followed, quickly proving to be a late high spot. The saccharine-drenched affair was a blast in the live setting, conjuring up the power pop stylings of Cheap Trick as the Black Crowes soared forward in fun fashion.
The brothers Robinson leaned in close, singing into the same mic during “Jealous Again” before closing with “Remedy,” with Chris back on harp as the new “Kindred Friend” wrapped things up in the Windy City.
“What is a band, other than something you dream up?” asked Chris rhetorically on stage in Chicago. “This band started in our mom and dad’s house in the 80s,” he continued, noting the pair’s humble roots. “And that dream will continue on.”

JIM MORRISON CELEBRATION CONCERT FT. WILD CHILD
Doors: 7:30 pm show: 8:00 pm.
In the aftermath of Jim Morrison’s death in 1971, the surviving members of the Doors tried all sorts of ways to carry on. They initially attempted to soldier forward as a trio with keyboardist Ray Manzarek and guitarist Robby Krieger sharing lead vocals, but they gave that up after just two underwhelming albums. In 2002, Krieger and Manzarek rebooted the band (minus drummer John Densmore and plus singer Ian Astbury) as the Doors of the 21st Century. That project petered out, too, due to a nasty legal battle with Densmore over the use of the Doors name, and Astbury’s commitments to his main band, the Cult.
Fuel’s Brett Scallions and Steelheart’s Miljenko Matijevic both had brief runs fronting the band after Astbury left, but Krieger and Manzarek didn’t settle on a winning formula until 2010, when they brought in Dave Brock, lead singer of the long-running Doors tribute band Wild Child. “We’ve always been kind of afraid to ask him to play with us, because people say, ‘Oh, you’re using a tribute singer. Now you’re your own tribute band,'” Krieger told Billboard in 2011.
“But then Journey got a karaoke singer [Arnel Pineda] and everyone loved it,” he continued. “We said, ‘If they can do that, we can use David.’…. When people come to see Ray and I, they want to see us do the Doors music as it should be done, so why not use a guy who really is an expert? He knows the songs better than we do, really.”
Brock grew up in San Francisco and loved groups like Steppenwolf, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Jefferson Airplane, and Led Zeppelin as a kid. His first concert was Sammy Hagar, and he followed it up with 1978’s Day on the Green featuring AC/DC, Van Halen, Foreigner, and Aerosmith. But a career in music wasn’t much of a thought when he finished high school and enrolled at Long Beach State.
“One of my mother’s last wishes was that I follow business administration,” Brock tells Rolling Stone on the phone from his home in Huntington Beach, California. “She passed away when I was just out of high school. I majored in marketing. I gotta say, it probably did me some good in the career that I’m in.”
During his time at school, he heard a commercial on the radio that Gazzarri’s on the Sunset Strip was going to stage a rock opera dedicated to the life of Jim Morrison.
He’d recently read the Doors biography No One Gets Out of Here Alive , and decided to check out the show. “I drove down there,” he says. “Turned out to be a live audition.
Honestly, it was a surprise. But I got the lead role. I only knew one Doors song, ‘L.A. Woman.’ It was kind of my theme song at the time.”
As the years went by, his knowledge of the Doors went way, way beyond “L.A. Woman.” It was a journey that ultimately led Krieger and Manzarek to tap him as their final Jim Morrison replacement.

John Mayer Jokes Pal Sammy Hagar 'Is Always Having Way More Fun Than You' as Rocker Receives Walk of Fame Star
The Van Halen rocker received a star on the Walk of Fame on Tuesday, April 30
Rocker Sammy Hagar is making his mark on Hollywood with a little help from friend John Mayer .
The Van Halen star, 76, received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Tuesday, April 30, and was honored in a speech given by pal Mayer.
“As you can see, I'm a Van Halen fan,” the guitarist said, gesturing to his t-shirt as he put on his reading glasses. “But I'm an even bigger Sammy Hagar fan."
Mayer, 46, described how the two initially met, just after he had linked up with Dead & Company, the Grateful Dead offshoot he joined in 2015.
"Sammy's studio was down the street from Bob Weir's — he and Bob were already good friends. Sammy came to visit the rehearsal. During a break, I sat down at the piano and started playing "Dreams" from the 5150 [Van Halen] album and Sammy sat down next to me and started singing the tune along with me — the first time we'd ever met. It was one of the most unforgettable moments of my life. From there we were off and running as friends."
Kevin Winter/Getty
The musician spoke of how he found a kindred spirit in Hagar as he stepped in his new role in Dead & Co., much as Hagar had when he replaced David Lee Roth in Van Halen in 1985.
"Sammy understood my nervousness about joining an already established legendary rock band, and he was incredibly supportive of me," Mayer recalled. "It's not easy stepping into a position that the audience isn't quite ready to accept, and Sammy knew that and he gave me great comfort in his instant friendship, his kindness — and by letting me drive his Lotus Esprit around the neighborhood alone without even thinking twice about it."
"Sammy shares his toys," he added, laughing.
Mayer continued, "Sammy was already a hugely successful artist in his own right. When he was asked to be the frontman of Van Halen, he certainly didn't have to join another band to continue making hit records. I think the reason he took them up on the offer was for the same reason he does anything — because it sounded like fun. Sammy is driven by having fun. Sammy has the kind of fun that we only dream about letting ourselves have, if only we could get out of our own way and simply enjoy the fact that we're alive and on this planet for a relative blink of an eye."
He continued, jokingly touching on the breadth of Hagar's lyrics — "Even when he is being a horndog, he's still monogamous" — his bands following his time in Van Halen, and the launch of his tequila brand. "In a world that promotes ruthless hustling and cold analytics, Sammy Hagar proves that living your life with generosity, curiosity and kindness pays off in every way imaginable," Mayer told the crowd.
For Hagar, keeping busy and having a good time doing it remains at the center of everything. As Mayer said, "Every time I think of him, a thought comes to mind that I'd like to share with you today. Wherever you are, whatever you're doing, Sammy Hagar is having way more fun than you. Congratulations on this well-deserved honor, my friend. I love you."
Accepting the accolades, Hagar had friends and family laughing as he revealed "this old guy" often answers Mayer's phone calls shirtless.
"By the way, John Mayer — he calls me in the car on FaceTime, that handsome devil. Here I am sitting around my house in a bathing suit, no shirt at my age. He's FaceTiming me trying to tell me how cool some song that he's listening to that I wrote or sang on [is] ... he goes off and says all these wonderful things. Can you imagine, I'm sitting there — this old guy here — going this is John Mayer on the phone telling me, 'You're the greatest, man. I love you, man! Your music has changed my life!' Imagine that, OK?! That's what I have to put up with, stuff like that."
The longtime friends have previously performed together on multiple occasions, and have played hits like Van Halen's “Finish What Ya Started” and Mayer’s “Queen of California.” Before they knew each other, Mayer often covered the band's "Panama" on his Continuum tour in 2008.
In 2017, the two interviewed each other for AXS TV’s Rock & Roll Road Trip with Sammy Hagar , ahead of Hagar’s annual Acoustic-4-A-Cure concert.
Following the ceremony, Hagar told PEOPLE his own version of his and Mayer's initial meet-cute. "The first day of rehearsal I had to go over because — I’m a big fan, always have been — their studio is right across the street from mine. So I went over. Him and I sat down, he’s just playing the piano, I start singing … he’s been to Cabo, we’ve jammed at Cabo, I’ve jammed with him and the Dead a million times, he’s done my Rock & Roll Road Trip . He did my Acoustic-4-A-Cure..."
Concluded Hagar: "Call John and he shows."
Hagar’s star ceremony also included remarks by his longtime manager Tom Consolo, and was emceed by celebrity chef Guy Fieri .
"The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is thrilled to honor rock legend Sammy Hagar for his contributions to the world of Rock & Roll music," Ana Martinez, Producer of the Hollywood Walk of Fame, said in a statement. “From his humble beginnings in Fontana, California to strolling the Hollywood Walk of Fame as a young boy, he has truly come a long way!"
Hagar was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame with Van Halen in 2007, and has amassed 25 platinum albums on sales surpassing 50 million worldwide.
In May, he’s set to launch Sammy’s Island at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, and Stage Red, a performance venue renamed in his honor, will open on June 15 in his hometown of Fontana, California.
The rocker is currently set to embark on his The Best of All Worlds Tour this summer with Joe Satriani, Michael Anthony and Jason Bonham.
“It’s crazy to think that it’ll be 20 years since Mikey and I played many of these songs with Van Halen on the '04 Best of Both Worlds Tour,” Hagar said in a statement. “With Joe on board, we can take a deeper dive into those years which will be really cool for the fans, and us."
