Throughout their career, Blackberry Smoke -- vocalist/lead guitarist Charlie Starr, guitarist/vocalist Paul Jackson, bassist/vocalist Richard Turner, drummer Brit Turner, and keyboardist Brandon Still -- has embodied Georgia's rich musical legacy, honoring the people, places and sounds of their home state. As the band celebrates their 20th anniversary this year, their reverence for Georgia has only deepened.

Over the years, the band's toured with ZZ Top, Zac Brown Band, and Eric Church, while the group's last four full-lengths reached the top 10 of the Billboard country charts, with two of these albums (2015's Holding All The Roses and 2016's Like An Arrow) landing at No. 1.

On their latest album, You Hear Georgia, the follow-up to 2018's critically acclaimed Find a Light, Blackberry Smoke is further celebrating these roots with 10 new songs that feel like Georgia, accented by the addition of Grammy-winning producer and fellow Georgia-native, Dave Cobb (Jason Isbell, Brandi Carlisle). You Hear Georgia reinforces that the band members have come so far together because they also can rely on one another for support and creative direction, no matter what the circumstances.

"Having played music together for so long, it does become a sort of a telepathic thing, where we all are nodding our head at the same time, like, 'A-ha, I know what this feels like,' or what it should feel and sound like," Starr says.

"That's what makes it so enjoyable to be in a band: to play with the same dudes decade after decade," he adds. "Because when you land on something that works to you, you don't want to stop. You want to keep doing it."

Blackberry Smoke Confirm New ‘Spirit of the South’ Tour Dates

Southern rockers Blackberry Smoke have announced new dates for an extensive tour giving praise to their musical heritage. The Georgia group’s headlining Spirit of the South Tour: A Celebration of Southern Rock N Roll will kick off July 30th and feature guests the Allman Betts Band, the Wild Feathers , and founding Allman Brothers Band member Jaimoe.

Originally slated to launch in summer 2020 but thwarted by the Covid-19 pandemic, Spirit of the South will now keep the band on the road through late October. Outdoor venues make up the bulk of the itinerary, with stops including Nashville’s Ascend Amphitheater, New York’s Pier 17, and Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre. A release notes that each show will feature a unique finale that combines the talents of the entire bill plus surprise guests.

Tickets for many of the dates are already on sale , with more becoming available on Friday, May 21st at 10 a.m. local time.

Blackberry Smoke also recently announced their new album You Hear Georgia , which was produced by Dave Cobb and recorded at Nashville’s RCA Studio A. Guests on the project include Jamey Johnson and Warren Haynes.

Blackberry Smoke Announces You Hear Georgia Tour

Blackberry Smoke is set to kick off its North American You Hear Georgia Tour beginning Aug. 31.

The headline tour launches at Columbus, Ohio’s Athenaeum Theater and runs through next spring with stops in Dubuque, Iowa, Roanoke, Virginia, Oklahoma City, Toronto, and more through April 2022. Pre-sale for the new shows begins today, June 23 with general on sale following on Friday, June 25 at 10 a.m. local time.

You Hear Georgia, the group’s most recent project, marks Blackberry Smoke’s 20th anniversary as a band. The Thirty Tigers album debuted as the best-selling country and rock album last month with 13,000 equivalent units sold. After its release on May 28, You Hear Georgia quickly went No. 1 on Billboard ’s Americana Folk Albums chart, No. 4 on the all-genre Top Albums Sales chart, No. 5 on the Top Country Albums chart, and No. 7 on the Top Rock Albums chart.

“We can’t wait to come out and play our new songs from  You Hear Georgia live!” says the band’s lead singer Charlie Starr . “We are long overdue to get out to these great places and see some friends, family, brothers and sisters that we have really missed. It’s going to be extra special playing these big rock ‘n’ roll shows again!”

  It was January 8, 2013, when Blackberry Smoke played Bogart’s in Cincinnati, OH . The band was touring in support of their latest record, The Whippoorwill , which had been released in August 2012. Up until that time, I had never heard of the band before. but the show was billed as a “band you need to know” type of event and I am always up for finding a cool new band. I have to say, the promoter of that show did not lie, Blackberry Smoke was the real deal. From the first song, I was hooked. I bought the vinyl of The Whippoorwill album at the show and then checked out the band’s previous 2 records and have never looked back since.

Fast forward to October 8, 2022. Blackberry Smoke was back in Cincinnati, this time at Riverfront Live! celebrating the 10-year anniversary of The Whippoorwill album. It is unreal to think that my first encounter with the band and that record was a decade ago. Not much has changed with Blackberry Smoke. You still have the same 4 guys that were there from the beginning. Charlie Starr on vocals and guitar, Paul Jackson on guitar, Richard Turner on bass, Brit Turner on drums, and Brandon Still on keyboards. Except now they have added some friends like Benji Shanks on guitars, Preston Holcomb on percussion, and two talented backup singers with them as well called The Black Bettys. The heart and soul of the music are still the same, but now it just has that big southern rock feel, similar to iconic bands like The Allman Brothers, The Black Crowes, and others.

To celebrate their classic third album, Blackberry Smoke performed The Whippoorwill in its entirety. The songs have only gotten stronger over the past decade, as has the manner in which they are performed. The guys now have 10 years behind them of recording and touring that brought extra confidence to the songs. It was cool to hear Charlie Starr share stories about the record in between songs. After the final song of The Whippoorwill , the band treated fans to songs from their other albums, including the most recent release, You Hear Georgia Calling .

It was great celebrating a great record with such a great band. Whether you are familiar with Blackberry Smoke or not, they are still a band you need to know. This is a great tour to jump on board with. It’s rare to find a band that continually keeps getting better and better, but Blackberry Smoke is that band. Deep Purple and Yes Announce 2024 North American Tour

Deep Purple and Yes will team up for a North American summer tour.

The trek begins on Aug. 14 in Hollywood, Florida, and concludes on Sept. 8 in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Tickets go on sale to the general public on Friday. you can see the full list of dates below.

Deep Purple is in the midst of their 1 More Time tour and simultaneously celebrating 50 years of “Smoke on the Water” (52 years now, to be exact). The band recently released a super deluxe edition of its landmark album Machine Head , which includes classics such as “Smoke on the Water,” “Highway Star” and “Space Truckin’.”

Yes, meanwhile, will deliver a career-spanning set comprising material through their latest album, 2023’s Mirror to the Sky . The prog legends are also releasing an expanded anniversary box set of their 1994 album Talk next month.
