Cloning Cannabis: How to Clone Marijuana Plants – Beginners Guide
Cloning sounds scientific and inaccessible. To an extent, it is, even when the word refers to cannabis cultivation and not the thing scientists occasionally do to sheep. But there are reasons most large-scale cannabis producers rely heavily on cloned plants for their production. Predictability. Quality. Speed of production. Profit. It’s a method of growing that […]

Being the first state to pass Medical Marijuana in 1999, California was a favorite in being the first to legalize recreational in 2010. However, fate would have it that a rec law would not be passed until prop 64 in 2016. Although Washington, Oregon and Colorado all got the jump on the The Golden State, it's long and sometimes jaded history with Cannabis dating back to the 1960's has California poised to be a leader in Cannabis tourism.

Planning Your Cannabis Vacation in Vancouver – A Day in the Life of a Cannabis Tourist
I understand that a lot of people travel to Vancouver exclusively for access to cannabis products and experiences not available or legal in their home county. So, here we go… a day-in-the-life story of a cannabis tourist’s experience in Van.
Imagine… you’ve just arrived in the 4230 friendly city of Vancouver, brimming with excitement and adventurous spirit. The first step? Checking into your 420-friendly Airbnb, and pick up some weed of course! This isn’t your average vacation rental – it’s a haven for cannabis enthusiasts, complete with every amenity you could want. You’re greeted with a warm welcome and a comforting slight scent of cannabis wafts through the air, a sign of the relaxed and accepting atmosphere.
Morning rolls around, and after a wake and bake session, you opt for a hearty breakfast. And then decide to start your day with a bit of ‘ganja yoga’. Stretching into downward dog, the calming effects of a potent hybrid strain help you find a deep sense of peace and connection to your surroundings.
Now that you’re relaxed and heartily nourished, you head out to one of Vancouver’s cannabis dispensaries that’s nearby . Guided by knowledgeable budtenders, you explore a myriad of strains, each with their unique flavors and effects. With their advice, you select a few to try out during your stay.
Midday calls for some exploration. You join a guided cann abis farmgate tour , strolling through a local grow house, learning more about the brand’s cannabis culture and growing methods. The tour doesn’t end there; on the way back, it concludes with a stop at a local cannabis café , where you could relax with a cannabis-infused beverage or a vape sesh, taking in the city’s local energy.
As evening sets in, you decide to party it up and experience Vancouver’s vibrant nightlife. Why not get tickets to a cannabis-friendly comedy show. Your laughter will be heard as the comedian jokes about cannabis culture, creating a shared fellowship among the audience members.
Finally, as the day draws to a close, you return to your 420-friendly Airbnb. Maybe try out one of the Indica strains you bought earlier in the day, to help you drift into a deep sleep while reflecting on the day’s adventures.
Planning your cannabis vacation in Vancouver goes beyond simply consuming cannabis – it’s about immersing yourself in a unique culture, experiencing new things, and creating unforgettable memories. The wide range of cannabis-related activities and services available are broken down in more detail below, so let’s continue on our journey shall we?
Rent a 420-Friendly Airbnb in Vancouver or a Bud & Breakfast
The first step in planning your weed friendly adventure is finding a 420-friendly Airbnb rental. While Vancouver doesn’t have many dedicated bud & breakfasts you still have options available.
If you’re into laid-back cannabis fun, the Burrard Motor Inn is a must-visit! They host epic cannabis-related events, like educational seminars, 420-friendly dance parties, movie nights, and stoner comedy shows. And wait till you hear about their “420 Package” – discounted rooms, a welcome package of cannabis goodies, and exclusive access to their cannabis events. It’s a perfect combo for an unforgettable cannabis experience in Vansterdam.
Helpful Tip: When searching for 420 friendly rentals in Vancouver, it’s important to inquire about the property’s smoking and cannabis policy. Given Vancouver’s progressive attitude towards cannabis use, you’ll find that many hotels, motels, and resorts offer dedicated outdoor smoking spaces and easy access to dispensaries.

Chill out at one of Vancouver’s Famous Beaches
Vancouver is known for its stunning natural beauty, including its numerous breathtaking beaches. You can smoke or vape cannabis at any beach in BC as long as tobacco smoking is permitted.
Here are some of the most popular beaches in Vancouver:
Wreck Beach (Vancouver’s Nude Beach) : This beach is unique as it’s Canada’s first and largest, legal, clothing-optional beach. Located near the University of British Columbia (UBC), Wreck Beach has a bohemian vibe and is known for its stunning sunsets. It’s named for the visible wreckage of a beached ship that was visible until the 1930s.
Kitsilano Beach : Often referred to as “Kits Beach,” this is one of the most popular beaches in Vancouver. It’s located on the city’s west side and is known for its vibrant atmosphere. Kits Beach has a rich history dating back to the early 20th century when it was a popular destination for the city’s burgeoning middle class. The Kitsilano Showboat, a unique outdoor stage, has been hosting free entertainment since 1935.
Jericho Beach : This beach is a bit more laid-back compared to Kits and English Bay. It’s a great spot for sailing, windsurfing, and other water sports. Jericho Beach was originally the point of arrival for many indigenous people traveling by canoe from the nearby village of Snauq. Later, it became a seaplane base and then a training center during World War II.
English Bay Beach : Also known as “First Beach,” this is the most populated beach area in Vancouver’s downtown area. It’s the hub of the annual Celebration of Light, a massive international fireworks competition. English Bay Beach has been a gathering place for Vancouverites since the city’s early days, and it was one of the first areas where the city expanded in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Spanish Banks Beach : Located further west along the coastline from Jericho, Spanish Banks is a series of beaches that are especially popular when the tide goes out, leaving wide expanses of sand to explore. The beach is named after the Spanish explorers who arrived there in 1792.
Second Beach : Located in Stanley Park, Second Beach is a family-friendly spot with a playground and heated outdoor pool. It’s a popular spot for picnics and barbecues.
Third Beach : Also located in Stanley Park , Third Beach is a bit more secluded and is a popular spot for sunset watchers.
Remember, while cannabis is legal, it’s important to consume responsibly and respect the rights and comfort of others enjoying these public spaces.
Vancouver’s Restaurant Scene and Cannabis-Infused Catering & Dining
In recent years, Vancouver’s restaurant scene has evolved to embrace the burgeoning cannabis culture, making it a gastronomic haven for both foodies and cannabis enthusiasts alike. With the legalization of marijuana in Canada, innovative chefs and restaurateurs are experimenting with cannabis-infused catering and dining experiences that are not just about getting high, but about elevating the culinary experience.
Whether you’re a local or a tourist, spots like West Blvd Cannabis and The Amsterdam Cafe offer a curated menu of cannabis-infused dishes that pair perfectly with their non-infused counterparts. These establishments focus on the nuances of flavor, aroma, and the interactive experience of combining food with cannabis. It’s not just about THC content; it’s about creating a holistic dining experience that caters to a variety of search intents. Whether you’re looking for a romantic cannabis-infused dinner or a casual dining experience with friends, Vancouver’s restaurant scene has something to offer. So, if you’re keen to explore the intersection of culinary art and cannabis culture, Vancouver is the place to be. Just remember to check the latest reviews and rankings online to ensure you’re choosing the best spot for your cannabis-infused culinary adventure.

My choice for the best Chinese food in Vancouver hands down is Peaceful Restaurant . With 4 locations in the Vancouver area, you won’t have a hard time getting to one. Every time I go to Vancouver, I always visit their Broadway location, because this is the spot that the TV show Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives featured, and I just can’t bring myself to try one of their other locations.
Book a Ganja Yoga Session
Who knew you could fuse fitness with fun during your cannabis vacation in Vancouver? The history of cannabis and yoga dates back centuries, both having roots in ancient India. Practitioners have long believed that cannabis can deepen their yoga practice, helping them delve further into postures, stretching, and meditation. Adding cannabis to the mix can intensify the sensory experience of movement, promote relaxation, and help the mind focus more intently on postures and breathwork. Ganja Yoga sessions in Vancouver are available, but are more of a pop up type of event, the best place to find them is on Everbrite .
Visit BC’s New Cannabis Farmgate Stores
If you’re looking for a genuine cannabis experience in the area, there are Cannabis Farmgate operators who are incredibly passionate about what they do and showcase the best of the best when it comes to their growing techniques, equipment, and, of course, their BC Bud. You can find their top-quality flower in these on-site retail shops, perfect for enjoying throughout your cannabis vacation.
While there is currently only a one farmgate operation that’s close proximity to Vancouver, more are set to open in 2024 and beyond.

The Legal Landscape on Cannabis in Vancouver, BC
In Toronto and all of Ontario, and Canada for that matter, cannabis is legal to use recreationally. In Ontario, you must be at least 19 years old to use it recreationally, and it is strictly regulated by the government to ensure the safety of children, youth, and road users. Medical cannabis is regulated by the Government of Canada and has different rules from recreational cannabis.

On Oct. 17, 2018, Canada became the second country in the world (after Uruguay) to legalize cannabis. And while cannabis products are still only legally sold by a limited number of federally regulated retail stores, there are plenty of ways to explore cannabis culture as a visitor to the country — whether or not that actually includes partaking in a legal high. Here are a few of our tips and suggestions for how to experience cannabis culture in Vancouver:
Please note: While G Adventures travels to Vancouver , our itineraries do not include any cannabis tourism at this time. However, you are free to explore the city’s cannabis culture safely, legally, and responsibly during your free time in the city.
You can't take it with you...
First thing’s first: don’t promise to bring home any souvenirs that contain actual cannabinoids. While the purchase and consumption of cannabis is legal in Vancouver and across Canada, travelling outside of the country with marijuana is not.
... unless it's not actually weed
While you’re exploring downtown Vancouver, you may happen upon a number of upscale lifestyle boutiques that sell cannabis-adjacent products, including pipes made by local ceramic artists, and literature about the history and cultivation of cannabis. Make sure to check out the rules in your home country about possession of cannabis paraphernalia and, if you’re in the clear, try to source stuff made by Canadian artisans for a unique, totally local souvenir. We suggest: Village Bloomery .
Redefining "munchies"
Many of G Adventures’ western Canadian tours either begin or end in Vancouver, so if you have an extra day before or after your tour begins, you can seek out a unique type of cannabis experience: a meal prepared with weed. While edible cannabis products have only recently become legal, many chefs and restaurateurs across the country are exploring cooking with cannabis — and the results are, shall we say, intoxicating. Research whether there are any culinary cannabis events taking place while you’re in the city, and book in advance. Note: you must be of legal age to attend these events (in B.C., it's 19).
Wash it down
Cannabis-infused edibles are no longer relegated to baked goods. A number of craft beverage producers across the province are looking to produce THC- and CBD-infused goods now that consumable cannabis products are legal — so fans of microbreweries can expand their palates into cannabis brews while visiting Vancouver. None of this has hit the market yet, but stay tuned — it’s in the pipeline, so to speak.
Book a weed tour
If you do find yourself with extra time on either end of your G Adventures tour, why not... book another tour? There are a number of enterprises within the B.C. capital that offer safe, guided cannabis tours of the city. Once again, participants must be of legal age!

Cannabis Tourism in Vancouver Canada
Marijuana dispensary rooms and the selling and buying of marijuana overall has gone through the roof after the legalization of the plant in October 2018. Now everyone can simply visit a marijuana dispensary anywhere across the country and walk out with oils, rolled blunts or pre-rolls , handfuls of flower, and seeds . In fact, there have been Vancouver cannabis clubs and stores opening well before the legalization was confirmed. You could buy cannabis accessories, wraps , and other smoking garments which now can be put to use.
However, before your search for close-by Vancouver cannabis clubs or marijuana dispensary rooms, there are some rules and regulations you need to know about in order to safely take part in using the plant recreationally. After reading this, you will be able to confidently experience legal pot in Canada .
Entering Canada legally
If you’ve been considering bringing your own pot into Canada or taking some for home, we strongly advise against it. Even though cannabis is now legal, when crossing the border you are not allowed to bring any of it into the country. If you don’t have an import or export permit this could result in a serious offense and you may get up to 14 years in prison. Trust us, with so many Vancouver cannabis clubs and marijuana dispensary rooms across the country, you don’t need to bring even a single blunt.
In-store marijuana dispensary rules
First of all, you need to know that it’s illegal to smoke inside a marijuana dispensary room. Anyone under 18 is not allowed to enter a dispensary and you will be asked for your ID to verify your age. There are areas in Canada that have set the minimum age to be 19 instead of 18 to enter a marijuana dispensary. So, remember these cities and areas that require at least 19 years of age: Ontario, Nova Scotia, Manitoba, Nunavut, Prince Edward Island, Saskatchewan, British Columbia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Northwest Territories. However, only in Alberta and in Quebec, the minimum age has been set to 18. From all the stores, the legal daily amount you can buy is 30 grams of dried matter. This is also the amount you can legally carry with you at any given day, and if it’s more than that you may be given a fine of $200.
Here are the products you can buy from a marijuana dispensary:
- Capsules , dried and milled flower, pre-rolled joints, oils , and seeds, as well as a fresh flower that hasn’t been dried yet either directly from a marijuana dispensary, a licensed producer or from any store that has them.
However, because there are other marijuana products that can be bought in the Vancouver cannabis clubs or stores, the government has created an overall chart with the maximum allowed amount of each cannabis-based product:
- Dry product 30 grams
- Fresh cannabis 150 grams
- Edibles 450 grams
- Seeds 30 grams
- Concentrates 7.5 grams, or 8 bottles of cannabis oil
- Liquids – 2,100 grams
Note that edibles and liquids will be available starting October 2019.
Where to smoke safely and legally in Canada?
While the Vancouver cannabis clubs are your best shot at enjoying the weed and staying safe, there are different sets of rules for each province individually. For instance, in Ontario , Manitoba, Nunavut, Yukon, Prince Edward Island, Saskatchewan, New Brunswick, and in Newfoundland and Labrador you can smoke only in private residences.
While in other provinces like Alberta it’s prohibited to smoke wherever cigarettes are prohibited, as well as in cars, and near minors. In British Columbia, you are allowed to smoke wherever tobacco is permitted, except on beaches, parks, and playgrounds where minors are present. Nova Scotia has similar rules on smoking where they allow smoking where cigarettes are allowed, and prohibit where minors can be present. Also, in the Northwest Territories, you can smoke in private residences and in restricted public areas.
Vancouver as the best marijuana destination in Canada
So far, you have 10 provinces and 3 large territories in Canada when smoking is permitted and legal. Vancouver is one of the biggest and most developed, so we have included a list of the places a weed-loving tourist must visit on their marijuana journey. This is practically the Amsterdam of Canada. There are many Vancouver cannabis clubs, cafes, beaches, parks, and other designated areas that will make your visit more enjoyable.
There are a lot of places to explore in Vancouver here is a video guide to watch
Spots for cannabis travelers in Vancouver:
- The New Amsterdam Café is a place that tourists visit first in their canna quest in Canada. It’s considered one of the best Vancouver cannabis clubs because you can smoke to your heart’s content, and when those munchies attack, they have a wide selection of lunch foods and baked goods. What’s even better is that they have recently built a bar designated for marijuana vaporing only , for those who like the effect without the actual smoke.
- Pot Block is another of the Vancouver ’s cannabis clubs that offers a nice selection of the plant’s varieties and while there you can visit the Herb Museum while smoking your herb with their own vaporizers.
- Wreck Beach is the largest naturist beach you can find in the westernmost tip of Vancouver. This place has a special spot in the marijuana history of Vancouver as here the most famous canna activist Watermelon aka Mary Jean Dundson sold cannabis-infused snacks and watermelon for two decades. So it’s the go-to place in Vancouver when you just want to light up a bud.
- Stanley Park is one of the largest parks in this city. It’s called the oasis of Vancouver and if you want to find people to socialize with while smoking your favorite pot, this is the place to be.
- Cypress Mountain Viewpoint is a scenic place that is high above the city giving you the chance to see Vancouver from above. Because what better place to get high than one with a high altitude?
- Cannabis Culture Lounge is recommended by locals as one of the most pleasant cafes when it comes to smoking and chilling all day long. While there are many snacks and weed-infused treats to be found, this place is a bring-your-own-bud place. But if you don’t have some weed with you no worries, there are plenty of dispensaries around to serve you.
The prices of cannabis in Vancouver

Are cannabis tours the next big thing?
You’ve probably heard about pub crawls, but how about cannabis crawls? Tour operators have big plans to cash in on recreational marijuana in Vancouver.
The city has a rich history in cannabis culture – earning it the nickname “Vansterdam” – and Tristin Slade of High Definition Tours says there’s an obvious opportunity to offer specialized tours covering everything cannabis, along with sightseeing stops.
He pointed to what he calls the “pot block” in the Vancouver’s Gastown neighbourhood.
“There’s Marc Emery’s Cannabis Culture and the New Amsterdam Café right next door as well,” Slade said.
His planned tours will include stops at legal dispensaries, providing cannabis education along the way.
Slade and other tour companies have taken their lead from canna-tourism that has taken off in Colorado and California.
“We have a four-hour cooking with cannabis class. We have a two-hour joint rolling class,” explained Nick Manko of Canada High Tours .
Slade is also toying with idea of combining a sushi and joint rolling class. Because it seems, well, an obvious fit.
Some visitors to Vancouver’s totem poles in Stanley Park had mixed reaction to the idea of going on a cannabis tour.
“It would be like going on a brewery tour if you don’t drink,” said one man from California.
But a group of young visitors from Washington State, where recreational marijuana is legal, had a different reaction.
“The legal age is different than it is in Canada, so people from Washington coming up would probably enjoy it,” explained one young woman.
Slade says he’s had a lot of inquiries from Brazil and the U.S.
“We haven’t actually had to do too much marketing, people are finding us,” Manko added.
Visitors may not be able to take any product home with them but Slade says they are more than welcome to partake in the legal recreational marijuana market.
He’s also hoping to take tourists to a growing operation but current restrictions on visitors could make it difficult getting inside.
As of Oct. 17, only one licensed retail facility exists in B.C. and that’s in Kamloops, but more are expected to follow.
Prices for cannabis tours range from $34 and up, depending on the package you choose.
And naturally, there is a tour offered by Canada High Tours that will go to Richmond’s famous food markets, where up to 100 food stalls can satisfy the “munchies.”

Advocacy group calls on Vancouver to 'embrace' cannabis tourism after 4-20 'debacle'
V ANCOUVER — The head of a B.C. cannabis growers group says the City of Vancouver's choice to discourage instead of sanction a marijuana celebration over the weekend was a costly "missed opportunity."
The BC Craft Farmers Co-Op says the city should rethink its approach to 4-20 celebrations and sanction what could be an "international cannabis tourism event."
Co-op president Tara Kirkpatrick says the city erected barriers around Sunset Beach and had police target vendors at the unsanctioned celebration over the weekend, instead of authorizing a "professionally run special event," similar to the annual Pride Parade.
Previous celebrations in Vancouver on April 20 — considered the day to celebrate smoking cannabis — have drawn tens of thousands of people, caused traffic gridlock and expensive damage to city parks.
However, Kirkpatrick says such an event could generate millions in tourism revenues for the province, which could cash in on B.C.'s "rich cannabis culture" and reputation as a place with "legendary craft cannabis farmers."
Vancouver's Parks Board had temporary fences put up, and closed washrooms and parking lots on Saturday as a way to "mitigate" what it said was a "non-sanctioned cannabis protest event."
The group says Vancouver could have followed in the footsteps of the City of Prince George, which held a permitted "cannabis summit" over the weekend attended by thousands, including the city's mayor.

StratCann’s first cannabis tour connects retailers, growers, and processors
StratCann’s inaugural farm tour took place on Vancouver Island on Father’s Day, visiting three outdoor cannabis farms located between Victoria and Nanaimo, BC.
Blessed with some rare sunshine in an otherwise cool and wet spring, the Vancouver Island Cannabis Island Farm Tour, the first of its kind not only in BC but in Canada, helped shed light on three very unique approaches to cannabis farming.
After an early-morning departure from Seed & Stone retail store in Victoria, the tour made its way to Cedar Organics , located next to Quenelle Lake in Cedar, BC. The tour was met by company founder Greg Kasting and his team who shared stories from two seasons on their 24-acre farm.
Cedar Organics
Cedar Organics utilizes the natural features of their farm and the proximity of rich soil and lake water for irrigation, fertilization and even pest management, while supplementing organic nutrients later in the season.
Leaving behind the beauty of Cedar, BC, the tour bus’ next stop was Dabble Cannabis , an 80-acre farm located just outside Duncan, BC. Dabble Cannabis is part of the Hi Point Guest Ranch , with cultivated fields, rolling hills, forest trails, a private lake, lake house and guest loft, as well as a cannabis farm.
Dabble Cannabis
Alannah Davis, the CEO of Dabble, met the tour and walked them past the guest loft (available through Airbnb) to the cannabis field and greenhouse where they were working on this year’s crop, before heading to the lake for a catered lunch.
Tour guests enjoyed lunch and a toke by the lake at Dabble while Davis shared stories of her father, Doug Davis convincing the rest of the family to try their hand at growing cannabis. The tour offered Dabble a chance to connect more with retailers who attended, said Davis. It also gave a chancre to show off the bed and breakfast.
“I thought the tour was great. To have people experience the magic of our farm, to learn our story was great. It certainly didn’t hurt that there were retailers there who now want to buy my product, and people were interested in the bed and breakfast, so it was good for us and I will continue to support events like this in the future.”
Sea Dog Farm
After some welcome downtime in the sunshine by the lake, the tour moved on to the third and final farm of the tour, Sea Dog Farm in Saanichton, BC. A labour of love for owners Katy and Shawn Connelly, Sea Dog Farm is a working market farm growing vegetables, fruit, cut flowers, chickens and alpacas, along with their 200m2 of sun-grown cannabis.
The Connelly’s shared with tour guests some of the highs and lows of cannabis farming so far, from the ever-changing challenges of the weather (last year was record highs, while this spring has been cool with a record-breaking amount of rainfall) , plus finding buyers for their small-batch cannabis.
Garlic and cut flowers, Katy says, might actually bring in more than cannabis but with a round of their pre-rolls now on the market (Lemon Grass pre-roll sold under the BC Sun Grown label) , she says she’s hopeful they can keep cannabis as a piece of their market farm.
After a long day and hundreds of kilometres covered, the tour bus and its 20 guests made their way back to Victoria, BC for a final stop at the Seed & Stone retail store to learn more about some of the products produced by the farms they visited.
“It was an incredible trip,” said Veronica, and a really nice way to learn about the farms right in our own backyard.”
Serena Donovan, the owner of Because You Cann , a micro cannabis licence in Alberta, as well as Mary Jane Manor , a cannabis-themed resort, said the tour gave her a chance to learn from and connect with cannabis farmers and others on Vancouver Island.
“I loved the tours. As a cannabis producer, I am very familiar with my growing styles and environmental issues, but seeing how other cannabis producers navigate outdoor growing brought me a new level of respect for the industry.”

B.C. cannabis tourism struggles to take flight

More than five years after cannabis was legalized in Canada, many in the industry are struggling to survive.
When the Cannabis Act came into force in October 2018, it was believed legal weed would be a sure-fire moneymaker, something that has been proven wrong.
One of those struggling businesses that popped up after legalization is Okanagan Cannabis Tours .
Owner Anne Marie Locas tells Castanet many of the rules around cannabis are preventing businesses like hers from surviving, let alone growing.
"The industry has just taken such a hit. You're asking, 'what am I doing this year?' I don't know what I'm doing this year because the industry just keeps running into roadblocks," she said.
This is despite a significant change for the cannabis industry announced by the provincial government in February , allowing for cannabis-friendly spaces and consumption of cannabis on public patios.
The information bulletin says , "licensees are able to promote a place to consume cannabis or to spend time after consuming cannabis."
It goes on to say that, "smoking and vaping cannabis on public patios is now permitted where smoking and vaping tobacco are already allowed."
On the surface that sounds like good news, but Locas says every municipality has different rules and interpretations. So far in Kelowna, no one has stepped forward to allow cannabis smoking in so-called 'smoke-pits' outside of coffee shops, restaurants, bars and nightclubs.
"I really don't think it changes anything. What coffee shop is gonna want people smoking cannabis on their patio? If they do have a smoking area, there might be sort of some backlash to that," Locas said.
When Locas started her business she envisioned touring cannabis curious and aficionados around the Okanagan to see how the product is grown, learn more about cannabis, and of course, sample the products.
Instead, Locas says typically she has to pull her tours over in a parking lot or on the side of a road for her clients to partake. A far cry from the Okanagan's wine-touring industry.
"So we break the law, basically. It was sketchy."
Locas says she's not allowed to transport or produce cannabis and her business is only successful if her clients have a good experience.
"The problem is the industry is so young that they don't know how to engage with tourists."
The wine industry has turned into a well-oiled machine that is the envy of many tourist operations across the country, Locas hopes the cannabis tourism industry gets there too one day.
Right now, Locas says her tours end up going to cannabis shops.
"It's kind of like taking someone to a liquor store — it's not like taking someone to a winery."
Lucas says she's still breaking even but struggles with how to grow her business.
"I keep contemplating shutting this thing down."
Restrictions around other parts of the business like advertising also make it hard to grow, she said.
Government of Canada statistics indicate that the legal sale of cannabis peaked in 2023 and while the federal Cannabis Act sets the laws around cannabis advertising, provinces have the power to determine what is allowable in retail shops.
In the quarter that ended in September 2023, there were 490 cannabis stores in B.C .
