Aliquippa police arrest man for allegedly stealing from cars; 33-year-old faces multiple charges

car cruise beaver county pa

ALIQUIPPA ― A man was charged with felony theft and several misdemeanors Tuesday afternoon after officers said he was seen stealing items from cars and had a stolen firearm.

According to a release from the Aliquippa Police Department , they arrested 33-year-old Francis Morrison after they said he fled from arrest on Tuesday. After taking the man into custody, police said they believe Morrison may be linked to several thefts from county residents' vehicles occurring in the area.

Reports of thefts were first received by the Aliquippa Police Department around 7:40 a.m. Tuesday. According to dispatchers, residents reported thefts were occurring from parked vehicles along Polk Street. The suspect had entered the vehicles and then got into a silver Nissan SUV to leave the scene. Police said another victim in the area reported a man of the same description had stolen a firearm from his residence.

As police investigated, they reviewed several doorbell cameras in the area and were able to get an "exact description" of the suspect. Later that day, officers reported they identified the vehicle outside a convenience store on Monaca Road and approached Morrison. As they did, he fled from officers on foot.

When officers eventually apprehended Morrison, they reported he had thrown away a stolen firearm before officers made contact with him, but the gun was later recovered. Police also determined the car Morrison was driving had been reported as stolen.

More: Communities advised to lock cars, remain vigilant during rise in juvenile crime

Members of the Aliquippa Police Department said they believe Morrison may be linked to a series of local thefts from cars, which have been reported by neighborhoods in Aliquippa and Hopewell and Center townships in recent weeks. At this time, police said the cases are pending and still under investigation.

Morrison currently faces two felony charges, one charge each for the theft of a firearm and motor vehicle. He also faces misdemeanors for tampering with evidence, possession of drug paraphernalia, theft from a motor vehicle and resisting arrest.
