all of the facilities are clean and the foods are all fresh, and specially thanks to ms cherrie and all the staff of the resort for their fast service and very accomodating service.

The staff was helpful made it easy to travel with a 5 year old, who enjoyed everything. Food was good. Prices for one of the restaurant which served filipino dishes was decent with big servings. We also did one day tour which was Tour A,l. Our tour guide was amazing and so good travelling with kid, you both can experience without worrying.

Luxury stay at sunlight resort, the staff is very friendly and accommodating and the beaches and water Bungalows are stunning, perfect for a relaxing holiday.

The warm welcome and superb service from the staff. The concept of conserving the coral reefs and the diverse sea life is highly commendable and admirable. It is always a welcome sight to behold especially upon waking up in the morning. It is very quiet and serene and has a very exclusive ambiance. A great place to commune with nature.

We loved pretty much everything. It was a slice of paradise. The two beaches were beautiful and the pool was massive and deep and super clean. The restaurant was great with tasty and varied food. You can even buy cigars and premium spirits there! Staff were great and very warm. There were buggys to help you get around the island. Breakfast was awesome also.

När man kom med båten så var det ett fantastiskt mottagande😊 Bra dykcenter. Poolen var så fin som den såg ut på bilderna och stränderna var magiska. Korallreven var direkt intill stranden så man kunde snorkla över dom.

Staycation in Paradise”

The booking was easy with Agoda. But communication between us & the reservation staff was a total pain in the neck. We almost cancel. It’s 1/10. Seriously! But!!! All this mess was wiped out as we experienced a pampering staycation in SETIR. We are luxury travelers as always! Hassle-free from airport transfer (coaster & speedboat), roundtrip at 4,000 pesos/person. To the resort, there were 2 other guests, while way back it was a complete private speedboat trip. Lovely! The accommodation, duplex villa, is super spacious, clean, toiletries are high quality (similar to what we use at home), room scent —jasmine peony (maybe)—which I like. There’s a coffee machine (bring your own ground coffee), an electric kettle, coffee/tea, cups & saucers, glasses (but no wine glasses), clean towels. The beddings are all Canadian, it’s a brand that I prefer due to its comfy texture & form—also like at home. The veranda with 2 big chairs is my favorite spot to view the sunrise. The villas are sit on the water so it feels really good. The food is delicious—not salty nor oily. The price of food is just alright. But for the careful spenders—you might find it a little high. But honestly I was surprised to only pay about 600 pesos/meal. Try all the 3 restaurants to enjoy various meals. For light eaters like me/us, a cup of rice is enough for two persons. The serving of food is also generous except cevichè. The Luna bar drinks are moderately priced, between 350-400 pesos per order. During the happy hour, there’s unlimited cocktail for only 999 pesos. The staff smile, greet & pay courtesy at all times. The buggy drivers are neat and courteous. I sometimes give small bills to say thank you—my own will, not mandatory. I don’t normally carry cash as we live in a digital world, debit/credit card is so handy. So, I don’t have much loss bills with me. My sister and I booked last January 17-19, 2023. We were able to enjoy our stay especially the amazing service from all the staff. We had to book roundtrip airport transfer directly from their website to enjoy our stay. Our arrival was very smooth and they have airport lounge at Busuanga, where we enjoyed our complimentary brewed coffee. What’s amazing part? We asked them for resort tour (look for Kuya Rod). They will pick you up right next to your villa. We snorkeled and had fish feeding (look for Kuya Jay). You can use bike for free!!! They also have 9 different restaurants where you can make advance order. We had the best stay ever!!! Will come back soon with our family!

Best way to end our honeymoon”

SETIR is an island where you'll feel like VIPs. They offer wide range of activities but of course for a price, but even though without any activity bookings, there are tons to do within the island - kayaks, paddle boards, bikes, snorkeling, etc. which are free. Of course anyone will enjoy the 2 white beaches and the infinity pool, which are best enjoyed during sunrise/sunsets. We even enjoyed riding buggy to roam around the island - even the boat transfers to/from SETIR were fun for us. And if you don't feel like doing anything, staying in the villa would still feel special. The rooms are well maintained and the view and the sounds of the waves underneath are simply breathtaking. There are varieties of restaurants around but some were open for a limited time due to ongoing renovations. It is not a surprise that food are generally pricey, but the big servings make it worth the price. The location of buffet breakfast is really strategic - not only the stomach will be full but also your eyes. All the staff we met were very warm and accommodating. Everyone who sees you will greet you as well. You can feel that most of them are happy to serve you (not just doing their jobs for the sake of doing it). This was one of the things that made us feel like real VIPs. There are a lot of instagrammable spots that are worth the OOTDs. I would definitely recommend staying in this resort. We'll surely be back some time.

Awesome place, quiet & clean, friendly & accommodating staff, BEAUTIFUL resort. We stayed for 4 nights, 2 nights at Sirakan & 2 nights at Studio villa. Sirakan will offer you a lavish island room experience. It's like you're on top of an aquarium since you can see corals & fish right under you. We pretty much stayed in the room the entire time to make every $ worth it. The balcony bathtub & indoor glass bottom floor are the 2 most unique features of this room. Only cons are it faces the sunrise (not sunset) and you either have to have a buggy pick you up or drop you off or grab a (free) bike just so you can get around the island since this room is far from everything. The studio villa was nice too, though, and the fact that it faces the sunset makes it worth it. This one's cons goes to the bathroom and bed (hard) which needs some upgrade. The rest of the room features was pretty good such as complete bar/coffee, vanity, full length sliding doors. Staff communicated the best via WhatsApp. They were one text away. If there's any cons I could think of, they are the island hopping tours and lack of convenience store. In my opinion the tour A (6,000php/person) was a a rip off. Though they provide lunch, snorkeling gear and towels, I think it should cost half of the price. The other one is the lack of convenience store. If you have any need other than food (like feminine/hygiene/self-care items) there's no way to get them. They ask 15,000php boat rental just to get you to Coron town. So you're pretty much stuck in this island throughout your time so just make sure you have everything you need before you come here.

We enjoyed staying at this beautiful paradise resort. The staff was awesome kind and helpful. Everything was there and we can’t ask for more. The restaurants and bars are 5 stars!! This was the last stop place on our trip before we head back to the US, so it was an Amazing Experience. I’ve been telling people that they should visit this resort. Thank you very much SETIR!! RENEWABLE ENERGY Each building and villa on the island has their own solar energy power source, including solar panels, batteries, charge controllers, and battery monitors. Aiming at our commitment to become a carbon neutral island, we do not use a generator to charge up batteries. Currently we only use a generator a few hours a day to run the water pump but future plans will implement a solar energy water pump station. Path lighting around the island and pier lighting utilizes special solar lights that incorporate in their body a solar panel, battery and detectors that allow the light to turn on at night and shut off during the day. There is no over or underground wiring at all on the island.

ENVIRONMENTAL WASTE REDUCTION To reduce environmental waste, we have enacted several projects on the island including:

• We do not sell any water or soft drinks in plastic bottles or plastic cups
• We do not use any plastic cutlery
• We make our own bamboo straws
• All cans from soft drinks and foods are sold and recycled
• We compost all kitchen scraps in special rotating composters
• We use only composting toilets on the island
• We do not burn any plastics

What makes El Nido Resorts Miniloc Island sustainable?

Sewage Treatment Plant El Nido Resorts operates a state-of-the-art sewage treatment plant (STP) combined with native reed bed filters. This ensures that no raw sewage and grey water are discharged into sea. Treated water is utilized in flushing toilets, watering the plants, and supplying fire hydrants. This directly reduces consumption of water, which otherwise have to be produced through energy-intensive desalination processes or sourced in the region’s water sources.

Materials Recovery Facility Solid wastes go through strict segregation before reaching the resort’s full cycle materials recovery facility (MRF). The MRF receives recyclable and organic wastes from the resorts and is looked after by the Garden Department. After segregation, the recyclable waste is stored in holding bins for pick-up by a local junk shop dealer for recycling, while the organic waste is composted onsite and later packed for use in the resort gardens or organic farms in El Nido mainland. Recognizing the negative impact of using non-recyclable wastes, El Nido Resorts implemented a refillable drinking water system in 2008 to try to eliminate the purchase of bottled waters during activities. The Kitchen Department also implemented its own refilling system, whereas instead of buying cooking oils in new containers, they just send the old containers to the supplier for a refill.

Water Conservation El Nido Resorts operates a rainwater catchment system to capture, filter, and store rainwater for use in the guest rooms and staff quarters. Water saving devices such as low-flow showerheads and low-flush toilets are also in place.

Desalination Plant There is a very limited supply of fresh water in island resorts. El Nido Resorts operates a desalination plant to convert salt water into fresh water suitable for human consumption. The desalination plant enables us to avoid depleting mainland water sources and competing with local communities for water supply.

In 2019 we joined  Mission 2020 , an online platform created by Fourth Element, for dive organisations around the world to publicly pledge to do something positive for the environment by World Oceans Day 2020 (8th June). We pledged;

“At Atmosphere Resorts & Spa, we have already made great strides in limiting our environmental impact. By World Oceans Day 2020, we pledge to have eliminated front of house single-use plastics and will continue to expand our sustainability and awareness raising efforts with our guests, suppliers and local community.”

This has led us to create single-use plastic free minibars, tea and coffee making facilities, as well as toiletries. We do not provide plastic straws or toothbrushes, instead offering natural bamboo alternatives. No plastic water or soda bottles are available on site, guests are provided with reusable aluminium bottles on arrival, and large refillable water containers within their rooms.

• Taking environmental ownership of our beach and house reef with regular clean-ups involving our guest. Data from these surveys contribute to global datasets on plastic pollution with  Project AWARE  and the Ocean Conservancy.
• Raising environmental awareness with marine conservation focused presentations.
• Guests are kindly asked not to remove coral, shells or sand from our beach.
• Hosting school groups for service trips focusing on marine conservation and community outreach activities.
• Working with local Non-Governmental Organisation, the  Institute for Marine Research , who are gathering long-term monitoring data on the heath of Dauin’s coral reefs.

Vincent Callebaut Envisions Shell-Inspired Eco-Tourism Resort in The Philippines

Vincent Callebaut Architectures has released a design proposal for a new eco-tourism resort in The Philippines inspired by natural coastline forms. Making extensive use of cradle-to-cradle and other sustainable design principles, the resort features a series of spiraling apartment buildings and shell-shaped hotel buildings, themselves positioned on two Fibonacci spirals of land in a coastal lagoon. At the center of the ensemble, a mountain-like complex combines a school, recreational swimming pools, sports halls, the resort's kitchens, and a suite of laboratories for environmental scientists.

Named the "Nautilus Eco-Resort," the project's eco-credentials were a focus of the design, with Vincent Callebaut Architectures pinpointing the environmental threats to the Philippine archipelago as inspiration for the design. The proposal includes a variety of renewable energy sources, including tidal and solar energy, with any surplus planned to be connected to the local grid and provided to the community.

The designs also heavily utilize sustainable materials, such as bio-concrete in the shell-shaped hotel facades, green walls, and cross-laminated timber in the central complex. The primary proposed transportation system for the resort is via boat, in an attempt to prevent the imposition of road infrastructure; the boats will have flat bottoms in order to prevent damaging the marine environment.

The goal of the resort is a symbiosis in which eco-tourism would fund the work of the resort's environmental scientists, while tourists and residents would be exposed to the scientific knowledge that is generated in the laboratories. This was the key intention behind the large cross-laminated-timber complex at the heart of the resort; by including both recreational and scientific spaces in the same building, it is hoped that more interactions could be encouraged between scientists and visitors.

"In a world that is shrinking," explained Vincent Callebaut Architectures in a press release, "the Nautilus Eco-Resort project wants to extend the field of action of a triple-zero eco-tourism: zero-emission, zero-waste, zero poverty. Discover the world without distorting it. Revitalize ecosystems instead of impoverishing and polluting them. Actively participate in the restoration of cultural heritage."

"Zero-emission, zero-waste, zero-poverty"

      1. THE PHILIPPINES, A COUNTRY IN CRISIS FACING ENVIRONMENTAL DEGRADATION

The Philippine seas are severely threatened. Over-fishing, mass tourism, massive pollution of plastic waste and toxic products, as well as climate change present real threats to the health of the archipelago and, of course, the survival of its inhabitants.

Corals are dying, mangrove areas are being destroyed, sea-grass beds are suffocated by erosion, and vital populations of fish and other marine species are declining dangerously.

And yet the Philippines , with its 7,641 islands and islets, and its 266,000 square kilometers of coastal, turquoise waters and bays, is one of the true sanctuaries of marine biodiversity in the world, at the top of the famous "Coral Triangle".

These seas harbor at least five species of marine turtles, 28 marine mammals, 168 cartilaginous fish, 648 species of mollusks, 1,755 fish associated with reefs, and 820 species of algae.

 What would resilient tourism, capable of revitalizing the symbiosis between humans and the environment, look like? How should we humbly accompany the local population to implement urgent measures to establish marine protected areas, to protect them from severe floods, landslides, and typhoons, to restore waste management, and revitalize their biodiversity? In short, how can we reconcile the human adventure with the whole of life?  

     2. A PIONEERING ECO-RESORT FOR ECO-RESPONSIBLE, ETHICAL, AND UNITED TOURISTS.

Tourism has become the most important industry at the international level. Its potential to contribute to sustainable development is therefore substantial and can be reinvented. Since the early 1980s, ecotourism has been exploring ways to reconcile the socio-economic development of our societies with the protection of the environment.

One step further, the Nautilus Eco-Resort project is a pioneering, eco-tourism complex designed to unite the knowledge of the scientific community with the willingness of eco-tourists to optimize the revitalization and protection of a degraded ecosystem such as in the Philippines. Based on biomimicry, the architectures of this Eco-Resort are inspired by the shapes, structures, intelligence of materials and feedback loops that exist in living beings and endemic ecosystems.

Ethical and eco-friendly, the Eco-Resort promises to the host populations and travelers to be actively involved with engineers, scientists, and ecologists in the protection of the environment that it wants to discover.

This collaborative concept offers responsible ecotourism based on education and interpretation in a natural environment, where the resources and well-being of local populations are to be preserved and gradually restored in a voluntary approach to "reimburse ecological debt ".

By minimizing its ecological footprint, the experience is centered on the preservation of nature and local urban ecology while respecting endemic ecosystems and agro-ecosystems.

While upgrading the natural heritage and culture, this "zero-emission, zero-waste, zero-poverty" project will be 100% built from reused and/or recycled materials from the archipelago.

Self-sufficient in energy and food, it will satisfy its needs thanks to renewable energies and permaculture. A zero-waste policy means that it will systematically upgrade its own waste into resources.

Through a co-creation process, the Eco-Resort will contribute to the well-being of local communities by including them in its planning, development, and operation.

Through crowdfunding, the project will generate funds for the site's conservation with the association of preservation of fauna and flora. It will directly support local economic development in the form of jobs and income. Finally, it will encourage respect for the archipelago's different cultures.

It is above all a project made to exchange and transmit ecological gestures between the natives and the newcomers. It will ask volunteer ecotourists to clean the washed-up plastic waste from beaches, put in place "cradle to cradle" recycling schemes, learn permaculture, protect coral crops, restore reasonable fishing, which will allow nature to regenerate, or strengthen natural protection against flooding.

     3. A LOW BIOPHILIC DESIGN BASED ON UPCYCLING AND ECO-MATERIALS

"Upcycling" means using waste and consumer products to make new objects or materials. In this process of industrial ecology and economical zero-waste logic, everything is transformed: series production collapses from factories, plastic waste recovered at sea, glass bottles, non-edible agricultural waste, or old boats.

The notion of waste is thus banned in favor of the notion of a closed cycle and circular economy.

To ensure that the Nautilus Eco-Resort is built in perfect harmony with the climate, the spirit of the place, and its resources, bio-sourced materials derived from vegetable biomass will be adopted. For example: co-products from agriculture or wood and hemp wool for thermal insulation, microalgae and linseed oil to produce organic tiles, local tropical wood species from eco-responsible forests for pontoons and wood floors.

Plants, their raw materials, are at the heart of the architectural project, simply because man has an innate need to be constantly connected to Nature. The five principles of biophilic design applied to the Nautilus Eco-Resort project are as follows:

     - Strengthen the visual link with nature 

     - Focus on thermal variability and the renewal of air 

     - Enjoy dynamic and diffused light 

     - Multiply biomorphic shapes and patterns

     - Optimize the sensory link with bio-sourced materials

      4. A PLUS-ENERGY VILLAGE IN A DOUBLE GOLDEN SPIRAL ON STILTS

The objective clearly defined in the architectural design of this Eco-Resort is to select with care the best of Low-Tech and High-Tech rather than choose one over the other.

Coiled at the foot of the hills in a crescent of fine sand, the Eco-Resort houses natural pools and waterfalls of vertical gardens.

The two main architectural entities - the shell-shaped hotels and the rotating apartment towers - wind up along two golden spirals respecting the Fibonacci sequence, a symbol of balance and harmony.

The height of each building increases with the convolution of the two spiral pontoons from the central island hosting the nautical center and the scientific research laboratories under its large plant roof.

The whole is dense to better preserve the territory and agricultural land. It is accessed mainly by sailboats or electric boats with flat bottom to limit the ecological footprint of road infrastructures.

This sustainable village is built on telescopic piles that produce, on the one hand, ocean thermal energy by exploiting the difference in temperature between the surface and deep waters of the sea, and, on the other hand, tidal energy which exploits the marine currents in kinetic energy by capturing them using hydro-turbines. Frigories for cool air and kilowatts for lighting are thus produced by renewable sources.

The façades and roofs combine plant walls and photovoltaic cells to increase the thermal inertia of the building, optimize natural cooling, and generate electricity.

Producing more energy than it consumes, the Eco-Resort thus achieves a positive energy balance. The added value of energy is thus redistributed in real time via a mini smart-grid to the local community, making them self-sufficient.

Rainwater is used and the gray water is biologically recycled in waste stabilization ponds bordering the gardens, while organic waste is recycled into biomass.

Each architectural entity offers a specific experience:

     - Rotating triskeles : To the East, 12 small spiral towers of varying heights invite travelers to live in apartments turning on their axis and following the course of the sun. Distributed in three branches, the 54 modules of three dwelling units fully rotate 360 degrees in one day. The 162 apartments offer exceptional views towards the landscape. The facades are adjusted surfaces integrating ramps to access the panoramic terraces. The central mat incorporates the vertical circulation and is covered with lush vegetation walls. At the top, a triskel roof also integrates solar tubes producing hot water and photovoltaic pergolas.

     - Green shells : To the West, 12 small museum-hotels in the form of a sea snails seem to emerge out of the water. On the lower floors, there are exhibition spaces explaining in particular the environmental and socio-cultural challenges of the archipelago. A bio-cement structural moucharabieh is deployed in a three-dimensional spiral to cover the programmatic functions distributed in alcoves. This bio-cement incorporates microorganisms improving its performance by inducing the precipitation of calcium carbonates in recycled concrete, as does a real shell to form its exoskeleton. These 12-living nautiluses feature a self-stable shell covered with vegetable essences that are to be protected on the island. Their two openings form funnels and are closed by curtain walls, incorporating silicon cells in imposts and green balconies in cascades.

     - Petals and corals : Punctuating the two-large golden spiral quays, small pavilions with organic and quasi-maternal shapes invite ecotourists to rest and relax along the water. The "petals" are covered with a vegetated hyperbolic roof while the shape of the "corals" is inspired by an Enneper triple surface, spiraling to erase any boundary between the inside and the outside. From each of their 22 pavilions, scientists have access to the fish and coral reef ponds in order to reintegrate endangered wildlife and plant life.

    - Origami mountain : In the center of the lagoon, the scientific research center and the nautical recreation base are located under a CLT (Cross Laminated Timber) framework. This is covered with 360 degrees of undulating ramps unfolding like giant origami. On the roof, there are vegetable gardens and organic orchards supplying, in short circuit, the kitchens of the restaurants of the Eco-Resort. The architecture is furtive and resembles the surrounding hills. This artificial mountain has a sports pool and a seawater leisure pool surrounded by all the scientific laboratories in order to increase exchanges between researchers and ecotourists. It also hosts an elementary school, a children's home and sports halls for local youth.

In a world that is shrinking, the Nautilus Eco-Resort project wants to extend the field of action of a triple-zero eco-tourism: zero-emission, zero-waste, zero poverty. Nautilus Eco-Resort

The Philippines, a Country in Crisis Facing Environmental Degradation

Corals are dying, mangrove areas are being destroyed, sea-grass beds are suffocated by erosion, and vital populations of fish and other marine species are declining dangerously.

And yet the Philippines, with its 7,641 islands and islets, and its 266,000 square kilometers of coastal, turquoise waters and bays, is one of the true sanctuaries of marine biodiversity in the world, at the top of the famous “Coral Triangle”.

These seas harbor at least five species of marine turtles, 28 marine mammals, 168 cartilaginous fish, 648 species of mollusks, 1,755 fish associated with reefs, and 820 species of algae.

What would resilient tourism, capable of revitalizing the symbiosis between humans and the environment, look like? How should we humbly accompany the local population to implement urgent measures to establish marine protected areas, to protect them from severe floods, landslides, and typhoons, to restore waste management, and revitalize their biodiversity? In short, how can we reconcile the human adventure with the whole of life?

Cebu Eco-Resort by Vincent Callebaut Architectures

A Pioneering Eco-Resort for Eco-Responsible, Ethical, and United Tourists

Tourism has become the most important industry at the international level. Its potential to contribute to sustainable development is therefore substantial and can be reinvented. Since the early 1980s, ecotourism has been exploring ways to reconcile the socio-economic development of our societies with the protection of the environment.

One step further, the Nautilus Eco-Resort project is a pioneering, eco-tourism complex designed to unite the knowledge of the scientific community with the willingness of eco-tourists to optimize the revitalization and protection of a degraded ecosystem such as in the Philippines. Based on biomimicry, the architectures of this Eco-Resort are inspired by the shapes, structures, intelligence of materials and feedback loops that exist in living beings and endemic ecosystems.

Ethical and eco-friendly, the Eco-Resort promises to the host populations and travelers to be actively involved with engineers, scientists, and ecologists in the protection of the environment that it wants to discover.

This collaborative concept offers responsible ecotourism based on education and interpretation in a natural environment, where the resources and well-being of local populations are to be preserved and gradually restored in a voluntary approach to “reimburse ecological debt”.

By minimizing its ecological footprint, the experience is centered on the preservation of nature and local urban ecology while respecting endemic ecosystems and agro-ecosystems.

Cebu Biophilic Learning Center Building

While upgrading the natural heritage and culture, this “zero-emission, zero-waste, zero-poverty” project will be 100% built from reused and/or recycled materials from the archipelago.

Self-sufficient in energy and food, it will satisfy its needs thanks to renewable energies and permaculture. A zero-waste policy means that it will systematically upgrade its own waste into resources.

Through a co-creation process, the Eco-Resort will contribute to the well-being of local communities by including them in its planning, development, and operation.

Through crowdfunding, the project will generate funds for the site’s conservation with the association of preservation of fauna and flora. It will directly support local economic development in the form of jobs and income. Finally, it will encourage respect for the archipelago’s different cultures.

It is above all a project made to exchange and transmit ecological gestures between the natives and the newcomers. It will ask volunteer ecotourists to clean the washed-up plastic waste from beaches, put in place “cradle to cradle” recycling schemes, learn permaculture, protect coral crops, restore reasonable fishing, which will allow nature to regenerate, or strengthen natural protection against flooding.

A Low Biophilic Design Based on Upcycling and Eco-Materials “Upcycling” means using waste and consumer products to make new objects or materials. In this process of industrial ecology and economical zero-waste logic, everything is transformed: series production collapses from factories, plastic waste recovered at sea, glass bottles, non-edible agricultural waste, or old boats.

The notion of waste is thus banned in favor of the notion of a closed cycle and circular economy. To ensure that the Nautilus Eco-Resort is built in perfect harmony with the climate, the spirit of the place, and its resources, bio-sourced materials derived from vegetable biomass will be adopted. For example: co-products from agriculture or wood and hemp wool for thermal insulation, microalgae and linseed oil to produce organic tiles, local tropical wood species from eco-responsible forests for pontoons and wood floors.

Plants, their raw materials, are at the heart of the architectural project, simply because man has an innate need to be constantly connected to Nature. The five principles of biophilic design applied to the Nautilus Eco-Resort project are as follows:

• Strengthen the visual link with nature • Focus on thermal variability and the renewal of air • Enjoy dynamic and diffused light • Multiply biomorphic shapes and patterns • Optimize the sensory link with bio-sourced materials

A Plus-Energy Village in a Double Golden Spiral on Stilts

The objective clearly defined in the architectural design of this Eco-Resort is to select with care the best of Low-Tech and High-Tech rather than choose one over the other.

Coiled at the foot of the hills in a crescent of fine sand, the Eco-Resort houses natural pools and waterfalls of vertical gardens. The two main architectural entities – the shell-shaped hotels and the rotating apartment towers – wind up along two golden spirals respecting the Fibonacci sequence, a symbol of balance and harmony.

The height of each building increases with the convolution of the two spiral pontoons from the central island hosting the nautical center and the scientific research laboratories under its large plant roof.

The whole is dense to better preserve the territory and agricultural land. It is accessed mainly by sailboats or electric boats with flat bottom to limit the ecological footprint of road infrastructures.

This sustainable village is built on telescopic piles that produce, on the one hand, ocean thermal energy by exploiting the difference in temperature between the surface and deep waters of the sea, and, on the other hand, tidal energy which exploits the marine currents in kinetic energy by capturing them using hydro-turbines. Frigories for cool air and kilowatts for lighting are thus produced by renewable sources.

The façades and roofs combine plant walls and photovoltaic cells to increase the thermal inertia of the building, optimize natural cooling, and generate electricity.

Producing more energy than it consumes, the Eco-Resort thus achieves a positive energy balance. The added value of energy is thus redistributed in real time via a mini smart-grid to the local community, making them self-sufficient.

Rainwater is used and the gray water is biologically recycled in waste stabilization ponds bordering the gardens, while organic waste is recycled into biomass.

Each architectural entity offers a specific experience:

Rotating triskeles: To the East, 12 small spiral towers of varying heights invite travelers to live in apartments turning on their axis and following the course of the sun. Distributed in three branches, the 54 modules of three dwelling units fully rotate 360 degrees in one day. The 162 apartments offer exceptional views towards the landscape. The facades are adjusted surfaces integrating ramps to access the panoramic terraces. The central mat incorporates the vertical circulation and is covered with lush vegetation walls. At the top, a triskel roof also integrates solar tubes producing hot water and photovoltaic pergolas.

Green shells: To the West, 12 small museum-hotels in the form of a sea snails seem to emerge out of the water. On the lower floors, there are exhibition spaces explaining in particular the environmental and socio-cultural challenges of the archipelago. A bio-cement structural moucharabieh is deployed in a three-dimensional spiral to cover the programmatic functions distributed in alcoves. This bio-cement incorporates microorganisms improving its performance by inducing the precipitation of calcium carbonates in recycled concrete, as does a real shell to form its exoskeleton. These 12-living nautiluses feature a self-stable shell covered with vegetable essences that are to be protected on the island. Their two openings form funnels and are closed by curtain walls, incorporating silicon cells in imposts and green balconies in cascades.

Petals and corals: Punctuating the two-large golden spiral quays, small pavilions with organic and quasi-maternal shapes invite ecotourists to rest and relax along the water. The “petals” are covered with a vegetated hyperbolic roof while the shape of the “corals” is inspired by an Enneper triple surface, spiraling to erase any boundary between the inside and the outside. From each of their 22 pavilions, scientists have access to the fish and coral reef ponds in order to reintegrate endangered wildlife and plant life.

Origami mountain: In the center of the lagoon, the scientific research center and the nautical recreation base are located under a CLT (Cross Laminated Timber) framework. This is covered with 360 degrees of undulating ramps unfolding like giant origami. On the roof, there are vegetable gardens and organic orchards supplying, in short circuit, the kitchens of the restaurants of the Eco-Resort. The architecture is furtive and resembles the surrounding hills. This artificial mountain has a sports pool and a seawater leisure pool surrounded by all the scientific laboratories in order to increase exchanges between researchers and ecotourists. It also hosts an elementary school, a children’s home and sports halls for local youth.

In a world that is shrinking, the Nautilus Eco-Resort project wants to extend the field of action of a triple-zero eco-tourism: zero-emission, zero-waste, zero poverty. Discover the world without distorting it. Revitalize ecosystems instead of impoverishing and polluting them. Actively participate in the restoration of cultural heritage. Exchange without arrogance and enrich yourself with the local communities by sharing eco-responsible behaviors.

In the years to come, the relationship that we decide to maintain with nature will determine the sustainability of the Homo-Sapiens that we are. With this mindset, the Nautilus Eco-Resort is resolutely committed to the concept of environmental resilience, militating for a new social system that is concerned about human and planetary health!
