IND vs ENG 2024, Test schedule: Full fixtures list, venues and match timings for England tour of India
India will be embroiled in a long, gruelling five-match Test series with England from January 25 till March 11 2024 – here’s the full schedule, list of venues and match dates for IND vs ENG next year.
Famous venues have been overlooked for the series, with no games in any of Kolkata, Chennai, Mumbai or Ahmedabad, home to the Narendra Modi Stadium, the largest in the world. The five games will be played in the eastern cities of Hyderabad and Vizag, before the two teams will travel to the west, with Rajkot hosting the third match. India and England will fly east once more, playing in Ranchi before concluding the series in the scenic Dharamsala in the north.
The first Test will begin on January 25, with only a four days gap between the first and second games. There will be an eight-day break between the second and third Tests, with another six-day gap as teams travel to Ranchi for the fourth Test. The last Test will be held on March 7, eight days after the end of the fourth Test.
England have not won a Test series in India since 2012/13 when Alastair Cook’s team became the first English side since 1984/85 to win in the country. They have visited India two more times, in 2016/17 and 2020/21, but returned empty-handed, falling to 4-0 and 3-1 defeats.
On the last tour, England started with a thumping 227-run win in Chennai, but the joy soon evaporated as they were blown away in the remaining three Tests. India also visited England later in 2021 (one reschedule game was played in July 2022), ending the series 2-2.
IND vs ENG 2024 Test series schedule:
1st Test , Hyderabad: Thursday, January 25 – Monday 29, 2024 2nd Test , Vizag: Friday, February 2 – Tuesday 6, 2024 3rd Test , Rajkot: Thursday, February 15 – Monday 19 4th Test , Ranchi: Friday, February 23 – Tuesday 27 5th Test , Dharamsala: Thursday, March 7 – Monday 11

Jimmy Anderson to end Test career this summer as England look to future
- McCullum tells Anderson in person on whistle-stop UK visit
- Record-breaking seamer will make way for next generation
Jimmy Anderson is set to bring the curtain down on his record-breaking England career this summer after face-to-face talks with the head coach, Brendon McCullum.
The Guardian understands McCullum recently made a whistle-stop five-day visit to the UK, travelling 11,000 miles from his home in New Zealand to meet Anderson and tell him in person, over a round of golf, that the Test team is looking to the future.
This primarily means building a seam attack for the next Ashes series in the winter of 2025-26, by which time Anderson will be 43. England play six Tests against West Indies and Sri Lanka this summer, including one against the latter on Anderson’s home ground, Old Trafford, in late August – and that will likely be it.
It speaks volumes about Anderson’s burning desire and commitment to fitness that a tap on shoulder has been required. Fresh from claiming his 700th Test wicket on the final day of England’s Test tour of India in March, the 41-year-old declared himself to be in the “best shape” he had ever been in and looking forward to the summer.
Equally, there was an acknowledgment that his place in the Test side was no longer a given after a low-key Ashes the previous summer and 18 wickets at 50 runs apiece from his last eight outings. “I’ve got to work hard to prove I’m worth a place,” Anderson told the Tailenders podcast.
McCullum and Ben Stokes have made a virtue of living in the present during their first two years as Test captain and head coach. They recalled Anderson and Stuart Broad at the start of their time together – they had been dropped for Joe Root’s final tour as captain – and looked to wring every last wicket out of the decorated pair.
While Broad called time at the end of last summer’s drawn Ashes series, choreographing his exit to perfection and claiming a wicket with his final ball in an England shirt, Anderson, four years his senior, was not minded to follow suit. Instead he was handed a new one-year central contract by Rob Key, the managing director of England cricket, and ploughed on into the winter.
But that 4-1 defeat in India – a first series defeat under Stokes and McCullum – has prompted a change of outlook; a realisation that their side’s ultra-aggressive, freewheeling approach needs “refinement” – McCullum’s word – and a deeper stable of new seam bowlers must be blooded in time for the next tour of Australia.
Asked at the end of the India tour whether Anderson could make that trip, McCullum replied: “I don’t know, honestly. Who knows where the end line for him is but for now, just enjoy having Jimmy around and make sure we utilise that experience he’s got. He’s a great resource for the other guys within the unit.”
after newsletter promotion
As well as cutting down on the number of voices in the dressing room, Anderson’s 20-plus years of Test knowhow are why McCullum has never had a fast bowling coach in his management setup. Unless a backroom role follows, this final summer represents one last chance for Anderson’s fellow seamers to mine that precious resource.
This includes Josh Tongue, Matthew Potts and Brydon Carse, all namechecked by McCullum during that India departure press conference. Whether Ollie Robinson is among them remains to be seen, England growing increasingly impatient with a seamer who, for all his abundant skill, pulls up lame in Test matches too often.
The 30-year-old Robinson’s fitness record sits in stark contrast to that of Anderson, who is set to play his 23rd season as a professional and will go into his final Test summer needing just nine more wickets to surpass Shane Warne’s career tally of 708 victims and sit second behind Sri Lanka’s Muttiah Muralirathan (800) in the all-time list.

CWI confirms Action Packed 2024 Home Schedule for West Indies Men
West Indies to host South Africa, England and Bangladesh in busy year of cricket
ST JOHN’S, Antigua - Cricket West Indies (CWI) today announces an action-packed schedule for the West Indies Men, featuring three international home tours against South Africa, England and Bangladesh, from May to December 2024.
The home tours begin with a visit from South Africa, for three (3) T20 Internationals (T20Is) at Sabina Park, prior to the start of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. The Proteas then return to the region, after the West Indies Test Tour to England in July, with a two (2) Test Match Series to be played in Trinidad and Guyana, followed by a second three (3) match T20I Series at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad, ahead of the Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
Following a white ball tour away to Sri Lanka in October, the West Indies will welcome England to the Caribbean for a white-ball tour consisting of three (3) CG United One Day Internationals (ODIs) and five (5) T20Is. The series will be played across Antigua, Barbados and Saint Lucia with travel packages on sale from today from CWI’s Official Tour Operators.
Bangladesh then complete the action packed year with an all-format tour before Christmas with two (2) Test Matches in Antigua and Jamaica, three (3) CG United ODIs in St. Kitts and three (3) T20Is in Saint Vincent.
CWI Chief Executive, Johnny Grave, said:
“We are delighted to announce our West Indies Men’s Home Series for the remainder of the year that will welcome South Africa, England and Bangladesh to eight of our host countries in the West Indies, including Saint Vincent for the first time since 2012. With significant improvements being made to the National Stadium in Grenada and Windsor Park in Dominica we were unable to host International cricket there this year, but we are already looking forward to returning to both venues in 2025. Fans can purchase tickets online from today for the first Series against South Africa in Jamaica and with our official travel partners for the England Tour later this year, with all other tickets expected to go on sale in July after the ICC Men’s T20 World. We urge fans to rally behind our Men in Maroon as we strive for a historic third T20 World Cup title and seek to secure all important points in the ICC World Test Championship.”
