"Active":  Why just see the world when you could bike, hike, kayak, and multi-sport it? Why, indeed. Active tours keep travellers who like to move on the move.

Hiking the Inca trail has long been on my travel bucket list and having travelled with G Adventures before, I knew I could trust that my G Adventures Classic Peru trip would live up to expectations. G Adventures Review

Why take a group tour.

For me on this particular trip, it was convenience. I had 10 weeks in order to see 6 countries – no mean feat! I also only had 2 months to plan my 10-week trip and so it was inevitable that my South America Itinerary would include a couple of group tours.

I’d also read lots about South America being a dangerous place to travel and so the thought of travelling with a reputable tour company gave me some comfort and soothed my parent’s anxiety. Turns out travelling in South America is a whole lot safer than the press makes out and travelling solo in South America would have been absolutely fine.

That said I’m still glad I took group tours in South America as it allowed me to achieve a lot in a short time – far more than I would have achieved if I was organising my own transport! And whilst I also love solo travel, sometimes you can’t beat the convenience of a group tour.

I chose to travel Peru with G Adventures because I’ve taken several G Adventures tours in the past and have always been really impressed by their professionalism and ethics. You can read more about why I love G Adventures in this G Adventures Vs Intrepid review . And if you want to read about another G Adventures trip I’ve taken, start with this article about my G Adventures Galapagos budget cruise .

What are the advantages of travelling with G Adventures?

  •  Convenience. No need for hours spent planning the boring aspects of travel such as how to get from A to B. Instead you can focus on the fun stuff like choosing which excursions you want to take!
  • Guaranteed company. No need to worry about eating out alone or hiking on your own and getting lost! You will have a ready-made set of friends who will probably be like-minded. You will have an adventurous spirit in common at the very least! I’ve made some brilliant friends on group adventure tours in the past.
  • Safety. Now whilst travelling in South America is safer than my parents still believe, there will still be inevitable risks. Mostly of theft and petty crime. Travelling in a group where you all watch each other’s backs will help protect you from becoming a victim and will help reassure your family and friends back home that you will return in one piece with all your belonging! Your knowledgeable tour leader can also help to advise you which parts of town are safe and which areas should be avoided!
  • Information. If your guide is anything like the 5 G Adventures guides I’ve travelled with, they will be a fountain of information. From the useful practical things like where to find an ATM to titbits of info about the history, culture and geography of a place.

What are the disadvantages of travelling with G Adventures?

  • As with all group tours, there’s the possibility you won’t get on with your tour group. I find it very unlikely that you won’t find anyone in your group you click with but I guess, in theory, it’s a possibility. That said, on all 5 G Adventures trips that I’ve taken, I’ve had lovely groups and have made friends for life.
  • Whilst the fast pace of a group tour allows you to see a lot of places in a short time, occasionally you may find a place you love and wish you had more time to explore. However, you could always come back again on your own to explore more…
  • Tours are not always the cheapest way to travel. That said, G Adventures is one of the most reasonable tour companies I’ve come across and offers different levels of comfort depending on what you can afford and how you like to travel.

Why I choose G Adventures over other adventure travel companies

  • In my experience, all the tour guides are local to the place you are visiting. This meant they were able to give a greater insight into the local culture and history. I also travelled with Dragoman in South America but whilst I enjoyed the trip and the overlanding style of travel, I was at times, disappointed with our guides lack of knowledge about the local area, probably because they were Brits guiding us around South America! Every tour guide I’ve had with G Adventures (I’ve had 5) has been brilliant and has gone above and beyond to make sure the trip was brilliant for everyone.
  • They have a great cancellation policy. Whilst most tours will keep your money if you back out from a tour and your only option is to claim on your travel insurance , G Adventures will allow you to exchange your trip for one of the same value in the future. Read about their cancellation policy here .
  • G Adventures takes responsible travel seriously. They work closely with the communities they travel within. G Adventures not-for-profit partner company Planeterra ensures that communities benefit from G Adventures operating in that area, supporting ground roots projects. They also make an effort to always use local businesses where they can such as local restaurants rather than chain restaurants. If you want to read more about G Adventures approach to responsible travel, click here .

What to expect on a g adventures tour, g adventures accommodation..

This will vary depending on the location and the type of tour. My Galapagos G Adventure trip was actually really luxurious. So was my South East Asia accommodation (probably as hotels were so cheap there!) My South America accommodation was a bit more basic but always comfortable.

G Adventures Food

Some of your meals will be included but most won’t be. Often breakfast is included but lunch and dinner will need to be budgeted for. Often the group finds dinner together but there’s no pressure to if you’d prefer to go off and explore by yourself.

G Adventure Activities

Always check beforehand which G Adventure activities are included and which you will have to pay extra for. Usually there is a mixture. It’s great as it allows you free time to do your own thing on occasion. Check the optional excursions in the trip notes to decide ahead of time where you want to spend your money.

G Adventures Group Size and Ages

G adventures group sizes.

One of the things I love about G Adventure trips is that they keep the group sizes small. Whilst they can have up to 16 people on one trip, I’d say the average is closer to 10-12. Enough people that you’re bound to make at least a few friends but not so many that you start to feel like a herd of cattle being herded from place to place!

On the Classic Peru trip , we started off as a group of 10 but were split into groups of 5 for the Lares trek and Inca Trail depending which trail we chose. We then each had a few extras join our group from another G Adventures tour. We had all become such close friends in a short time that we couldn’t wait to be reunited after our treks and exchanged stories and photos.

What is the Average age on a G Adventures trip?

The average age on a G adventures trip seems to vary a lot depending on which style of tour you choose and which country. Budget trips in South East Asia seem to attract more young people in their early 20’s but in my South America Group, we were aged between 25 and 60 with the average age being about 30-35. If you are a little older and want to increase the chances of travelling with a mixed bunch of ages, go for the mid-budget or comfort trips over the shoestring ones.

But regardless of how old the members of your G Adventures team are, you can almost guarantee everyone will be young at heart and keen for an adventure!

Can I go on a G Adventures Trip Alone?

Most people who join these trips are on their own so it’s great for singles and solo travellers. Sometimes people do come in couples or pairs but if you travel alone, you will be paired with someone the same gender and a similar age to share a room so you won’t have to incur a single supplement. If having a room to yourself is important, you can usually opt to have your own room at an extra cost. this is not always available on boat trips or camping sections of the trip.

How to Budget for a G Adventures Tour

The good thing about a G Adventures trip is that you know your transport and accommodation is covered so you only need to budget for food and activities, therefore its easier to manage your money on the road.

On a typical G Adventures trip, breakfast is included in most hotels but very few lunches or dinners are unless specifically mentioned in the trip brochure. Therefore this will need to be factored into your budget.

Flights are not included and so this will be your biggest outlay on top of the G Adventures trip cost.

Usually, there will be some tours and activities included in the price of the trip. Additional excursions are often mentioned in the full trip itinerary along with costs and so it’s easy to help you budget for your G Adventures trip.

Other costs to consider are immunisations, malaria medication, drinking water and taxis.

Classic Peru G Adventures Review

What to expect on the g adventures classic peru tour.

We started our G Adventures Classic Peru trip in Lima. I arrived late at night so didn’t get much chance to explore. From what my trip mates have told me, Lima is nice enough but you don’t need to allow a lot of time to explore. There are other much better places in Peru more worthy of your time and money.

Lake Titicaca

The following morning, we hopped on a domestic flight together to reach Puno on the shores of Lake Titicaca . We used this as a base for exploring this high altitude city and the beautiful Lake Titicaca .

Included in the cost of this tour, was an overnight Lake Titicaca trip where we visited the floating islands of Uros (islands and homes made entirely of river weeds,) visited a village on the Taquile Islands and then stayed at a homestay in an island on the shores of the lake.

The homestay was a brilliant way to experience ‘real life’ and we were welcomed warmly into our host’s homes. Whilst they spoke little English and our Spanish was not brilliant, we found ways to communicate and this homestay was one of my trip highlights. We played with the children, ate delicious home cooked food, showed our families pictures from back home and in the mornings we helped our families with jobs around the farm.

Read more about visiting Lake Titicaca here .

Cusco and The Sacred Valley

From Puno, we travelled north to Cusco, a beautiful city nestled in the Peruvian mountains. By now, our altitude sickness was settling and we enjoyed wandering the markets and the churches of Cusco before a day trip to see The Sacred Valley. You have to see The Sacred Valley to believe it! We climbed to the top of the Ollytambo ruins and were rewarded with beautiful views in every direction.

We also visited local Planeterra project such as the women’s weaving initiative at the Ccaccaccollo community centre where we learnt how the super soft alpaca wool was weaved into beautiful products such as jumpers and scarves and we stocked up on Christmas gifts for our families back home.

Lunch was at the Parwa Community Restaurant, another local business supported by G Adventures and some of the best food I tasted my entire trip.

The Inca Trail or Lares Trek

The next stop for us was the start of our trek into the Andean Mountains. For me, this was the Lares trek .

For many, the question at this point is whether to choose the Lares trek or the Inca trail. In truth, either trek is fantastic and I’m sure you’ll have no regrets whichever you choose. Half our group did the Inca trail and half chose the Lares trek.

Did you know G Adventures has actually won an award for being the best inca trail tour provider? You can read more about that by clicking  here .

A few things you should know before choosing;

  • The Inca Trail requires a permit and sometimes these need to be obtained up to 6 months in advance.
  • The Lares trek will not take you right to Macchu Pichu, you will need to take the scenic railway to Aguas Calientes where you will stay overnight and visit Machu Pichu in the morning. The downside is that you don’t get your first glimpse of Machu Pichu from the sun gate but the upside is that you are showered and well rested to enjoy the Inca Ruins and spectacular scenery fully.
  • The Inca Trail gets busy and the campsites are large. If you are looking for peace and quiet, choose the Lares Trek, we barely saw another human except for a few farmers and children.
  • The Lares Trek goes to a higher altitude than The Inca Trail but is shorter – 3 days versus 4.
  • Nothing can quite prepare you for your first sighting of Machu Pichu, it is truly beautiful.

I can personally recommend the Lares Trek – it was one of my favourite experiences in South America to date. The views were stunning, the peace and quiet refreshing, the achievement satisfying. I have heard just as positive things about the Inca Trail so whichever you choose, it is likely to be something you will remember for a very long time.

Back to Cusco

You will then a have a few days in Cusco before the trip finishes. Take a trip to the multicoloured Rainbow Mountain or go horse riding or quad biking nearby Cusco or spend time wandering the quaint city. Sadly, I got sick and spent most of my time in my hotel room! But Cusco, I will be back..!

From Cusco, I flew to La Paz and travelled through Bolivia, Chile, Argentina and Brazil. You can read about my   South America Route here .

In Conclusion…

If you are visiting Peru and planning to do either the Lares trek or Inca Trail, you should definitely consider the Classic Peru trip with G Adventures . As you may have realised by reading other articles of mine, I am a huge fan of G Adventures. All opinions are my own and this trip was paid for in full by myself. I hope you’ve found this review of G Adventures ‘Classic Peru’ useful and I’m sure if you choose to take the trip with G Adventures, you will have the most wonderful trip.

I have not made it to Peru yet but when I do go I would love to do a group tour like this. Seeing Machu Pichu is definitely on my bucket list, I just need to make sure my knee is strong enough to be able to do the hike.

I have a knee problem too and a dodgy back! But we took our time and I made sure to take regular anti inflammatories which helped! You’ll love it ?

That’s very encouraging

I would definitely recommend taking 2 walking poles – they made a huge difference. And lares would be easier than inca trail with bad knees as no steps only hills

Great! I would love to visit Peru!

I have been thinking about booking a tour with G Adventures for a while now. Thank you for sharing such a comprehensive review of your experience!

I highly recommend them! Intrepid are good too but I think g adventures are my favourite

Thank you so so much for such a thorough review! This is so helpful! I’m definitely interested in booking this!

Great post. I had a look at their website recently and really liked the concept. Thanks for sharing

They are a great company. Which tour were you thinking to take?

The tour had an excellent itinerary and activities, giving a broad overview of Peru - we loved it. Accommodations (with one exception) were great, and all had an included breakfast buffet. The tour's included activities (e.g. cooking class, pisco tour and tasting, potato park, boat tour of Isla Ballestas) were terrific. Appreciated the two included flights which saved a lot of driving time. Logistics were handled, and everything was smooth and easy (thanks to our CEO, Mary Chu!).

Great people. Great value. Great experience.

My first trip with GAdventures was even better than I had expected. The lodging was fantastic, especially for the price of the adventure I chose. Our guide Marco was so accommodating of the various levels of stamina, as well as a wealth of local knowledge. The people were all friendly and inclusive. The only thing I would change is my arrival date so I could enter the experience without the fatigue of a 20 hour travel itinerary!

Went on a 1 month trip around south east Asia with g adventures. Wow, best trip ever. Very professional and amazing guide Ratha Van. The trip is planned to perfection with time for culture exploring and fun. I wish I could go back and relive it! They also help and donate a lot to small communities, and help the family and kids in need. I can only recommend!!!

We completed the Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand tour in February which was simply amazing. Our CEO, Bun was so kind and enthusiastic - full of knowledge and just couldn't do enough for us. My communication with G Adventures prior to booking was speedy and efficient. We will definitely book again.

AVOID! AVOID! AVOID!

AVOID! AVOID! AVOID! DO NOT USE THIS UNPROFESSIONAL ORGANISATION OR YOU WILL REGRET IT! G Adventures are awful! The staff are useless and the managers don't call you back! More hassle than it's worth! They are quick to take your money but don't want to help! Intrepid are much better! Do not give your money to this company!!!! Vile company!!!!! I have spoken to Ashely and Zeeshan but their manager is refusing to call me!! Waste of my time and money!

AWFUL !! G Adventures, National Geographic & Disney

After having one fantastic overseas trip with Nat. Geo. several years ago, we decided on a US trip. When I had to cancel due to a medical issue, I found out what you really get with some trips is a subcontractor called G Adventures. Disney now owns and runs most things. This is hidden in the fine print; you are not told you're dealing with a subcontractor. While they refunded the trip cost, they have given me the runaround for over 6 weeks regarding the airline refund. I even had to go to the airline and now have documentation that the airline refunded G adventures over a month ago! National Geographic and Disney passed the buck and refuses to back a trip they advertise and be responsible for this subcontractor. Fortunately, my credit card company refunded!! I no longer recommend Nat. Geo. or Disney for any trip as a result. Check the online reviews for G Adventures, National Geographic Tours...F rating with BBB and horrible ratings with yelp and other reviewers.

Lousy experience. Double cancellation

Nope. They have taken my money and booking then cancelled the first tour I booked. I booked a second tour and then was told that there was no room in the tour. All this 4 days before the expected departure flight. Seriously! Now my agent tells me that they have not yet reimbursed the money I paid them. I am appalled.

This is one of the best travel agents…

This is one of the best travel agents which services I have used. I love traveling all over the world and you know… it is hard to find a suitable travel agent that aligns with your needs and wishes. I came across this company accidentally by scrolling through a blog of one website and saw an advertisement. After reading their terms of cooperation I was convinced that it is exactly what I was looking for. I bought their tour “three days in Iceland” for 719 bucks and it is quite cheap to be honest and at the same time they are not inferior in providing qualitative services. We had a great tour and I was so happy. In the near future, I will come again, guys! 😀

An amazing one week tour of Malaysia and Borneo

We had a one week tour of Malaysia and Borneo which was absolutely amazing! We had a great guide called EJ along the way who was helpful and efficient at getting us from place to place. We had the opportunity to visit remote islands, see Bornean orang utans and sun bears and much more! Would highly recommend this trip for anyone.

We trekked the Inca Trail in March - it was an adventure packed with history, culture and breath taking views with every step taken that no words or photographs can give it the honourable respect and justice it deserves. I was completely in awe of the Porters who were dedicated and disciplined carrying 30kg each on their backs to ensure we were fed, watered, safe and warm and always had a welcoming smile and very courtesous. How they maintained the stamia each day was humbling- my only criticism is that prehaps alittle less weight for each Porter and definitely the use of walking poles for each of them. Also a huge thank you to our Guides Richie and Paulo & team for pushing us along with inspiration, historical culture and belief! Treasured memories 😊 Jacqueline Grant

Costa Rica - very commercial and not eco

Embarking on a 16-day Costa Rica journey with G Adventures was a mix of highs and lows. Despite the promise of eco-friendly exploration, some accommodations fell short, and the reality of plastic pollution was apparent. San Jose was underwhelming with its dirty streets and hazards like uneven pavements and missing drain covers posing safety concerns. However, experiences like the Manuel Antonio National Park visit and activities in Monteverde offered memorable moments. La Fortuna had hidden gems, but inadequate information sharing was noted. Sarapiqui Rainforest and Tortuguero were highlights, but Puerto Viejo deserved more time. Overall, while G Adventures provided experiences, improvements in accommodation and information transparency are needed for future trips. Costa Rica proved costly, primarily catering to American tourists. Considering the mixed experience, returning is unlikely, though some aspects were enjoyable. As for G Adventures, while some aspects were positive, improvements in trip quality and inclusions are necessary for potential future use.

The best 20 days in Rajasthan and Varanasi

I just finished 20 days in Rajasthan and Varanasi, India with G Adventures. This was my first group tour and it was the best experience. Our guide Siddhraj was amazing, incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about his work and his country. It was a Basic trip so accommodation was basic but always clean enough. We used public transport, buses, trains, and sleeper trains. These were always basic but adequate. Siddhraj made sure we were all safe on the sleeper trains and made sure we were all ready to leave even when we were spread across numerous coaches on the train which can’t have been easy as we were a group of almost 20. We were in Agra for Holi Festival and Siddhraj made sure we had somewhere safe to experience the festivities, going above and beyond to secure hotel rooms for us to shower in before our sleeper train. Everything on the tour was well-organised and ran smoothly. I would definitely recommend this trip to anyone considering it.

My trip to Antarctica..best thing I have ever done!

My trip to Antarctica delivered more than I ever expected, every step of the tour was handled by expert friendly staff, from beginning to end.As a long term traveller I'm 70yrs old, this has been the best experience of my life. Find it hard to put into words how great the whole experience. The staff were fantastic. The on board scientists were so passionate and eager to share their knowledge. As a solo traveller (no extra charge) I would give gadventures 10 out of 10 with no hesitation. Thanks to all on gadventures quest for the antartic circle for your friendly, informative and fun time. If you have a passion to see Antarctica definatly do it with Gadventures also add kayaking which was spectacular. and camping on the ice overnight, great experience...Thanks Gadventures..Graeme

I have done 2 trips with GAdventures, one to Southern Africa and one to Ecuador. Both tours were great! Can't wait to do more tours with GA!

Cheated their customers.

We asked for a photographer tour same as friend’s, who introduced us to her tour. But their agent made the vagus travel contract to us, hide the truth that the tour was a cheaper classic tour. But the end, we pay photographer tour price which is $400 more expensive, but got a cheap classic tour.

Great trip for a first time traveller

I did the Highlights of Ireland GAdventures tour in June 2023. The tour guide, Jamie was great. Very knowledgeable and friendly, and knew of some great spots around the country for scenery, live music, great food, and of course great pubs/bars. The trip was decently paced, and I felt like I got to see a good chunk of the country. The most memorable parts for me were the Cliffs of Moher, Giant's Causeway, and of course, the group on the tour. I would definitely do another trip with GAdventures, Iceland is high on the bucket list.

Amazon to the Andes Forced to Tip $100 & nasty room mate...

Amazon to the Andes Forced to Tip $100 & nasty room mate...So overall the trip was good because Peru 🇵🇪 itself is so rich in culture & so many things to do. I was really forced to tip the porters at the Inca Trail. I forgot the cash & the fellow travellers started saying it's not fair & becoming nasty. Since when is tipping compulsory? Disgusting G adventures being forced to tip. In this case it was & I had to pay back the leader with more tips. This is where the porters working on the mountains are already paid in advance by G adventures. The Amazon experience overall was great and the accommodation. I was put with a roomate who I was sharing with who complained first, everything was friendly out of spite she started complaining & making the experience less enjoyable because of her presence. G adventures don't force people to tip, since when did tipping ever become compulsory & a fixed amount. Also if 2 people sharing rooms don't get along, give them the own room something serious like physical assault or a very unpleasant experience can happen. Don't force people just because you want to keep the money for your company. The dinner was included on most of the inca trail and Amazon experience which is a plus. However, avoid and I will not be booking any trips other travel companies are way better.

Mayan Encounter

Mayan Encounter to Guatemala, Belize and Mexico Loved this 11-day tour with GAdventures! This was my first time as a solo traveler on a guided tour; I’m so glad I went with this company for several reasons: our guide, Ella, was delightful; all the logistics were taken care of; the cultural and outdoor experiences were great; sufficient free time was built in; the group was like-minded; and it was fun! The accommodations were just what we needed: clean decent places to sleep (I slept well every night after those fun-filled, active days). My top experiences were Tikal, snorkeling trips (including night-snorkeling!), cave tubing, and low-key bike riding on Caye Caulker. Best of all: to see how GAdventures is helping out very-worthy endeavors. I know I’ll travel with GAdventures again as I love being out in nature and experiencing new things. Now to figure out where to go next! Pam

Make yourself a favour and Do Not book…

Make yourself a favour and Do Not book youtlr tour with them. My tour for Costa Rica got cancelled due to some "places being sold out" but on the website it was advertised 3 places available for this tour. If I knew I would have booked myself a car from the airport and avoid all this hassle and stress I'm going through now because I planned my trip based on this tour. Anyway, this experience is for Costa Rica only. Don't know anything about other countries.

G Adventures Enables Its Guests to Travel With a Purpose

This article originally appeared the April issue of AGENTatHOME magazine.  Subscribe here to receive your free copy each month.

As G Adventures has grown it has become part of a larger company, but its mission remains the same: to be “a social enterprise in the business of changing lives through travel,” said Steve Lima, director of marketing.

That mission goes back to when Bruce Poon Tip started the company in 1990 as a small-group tour operator with a focus on community tourism and how travel can make a positive impact, instilling that belief in all employees and extending it to partners, including travel advisors and their clients.

“I don’t just work for a travel company,” said Lima, “I work for a purpose.”

G Travel Community

With the recent acquisition of several other tour operators, a holding company called G Travel Community (GTC) was formed. Ben Perlo is now CEO and president of G Adventures while Jeff Russill is CEO of GTC. Poon Tip continues to play a highly active role on the board of GTC.

With the larger structure, the company is able to have an even more powerful impact on the places it visits – an impact measured by a proprietary Ripple Score, a tour evaluation that provides data on the money spent locally by G Adventures, including accommodations, restaurants and transportation. The higher the score, the more positive the effect on a community.

Small Groups

That pervasive social consciousness, said Lima, is combined with a quality product offering memorable experiences as the operator has evolved in recent years from its origins as a high-end adventure travel provider. Since about 2015, G Adventures has upgraded accommodations and slowed tour pacing but kept the focus on small groups – 10 passengers on average, a “true small-group operator,” he said. This year, the company expects to move 200,000 people on 15,000 departures, with a choice of more than 750 different trips in 100 countries on every continent.

Although it now offers more programs on the soft-adventure side, a full gamut of options is available, including more active ones like treks to a basecamp at Mount Everest or hiking the Atlas Mountains in Morocco, Lima said.

Sailing Options

The company portfolio also includes three ships and 15 tours in the Galapagos, offering everything from active trips to explorations for families. The newest ship, which debuted last year, is the Reina Silvia Voyager, accommodating just 16 passengers. The sailings are accompanied by a Chief Experience Officer (CEO) naturalist guide who introduces passengers to the wonders of the islands. In addition, there are sailing trips in Greece, Croatia, the Caribbean and elsewhere, as well as expedition cruises in Antarctica.

G Adventures is also focusing on its National Geographic Journeys product, now comprising 90 tours globally under two umbrellas: National Geographic Journeys and National Geographic Family. These are designed to take travelers deeper into cultures and habitats, and offer more inclusions, greater hands-on exploration, interactions with local experts, and the freedom to roam, all within the structure and security of traveling in a small group.

Domestic Offerings

During the pandemic, G Adventures doubled down on domestic tours, refocusing them to appeal to American travelers. With the rise of domestic travel in the last few years, a series of USA Adventures was developed to the American West featuring upgraded accommodations, a slower pace and visits to national parks, Lima said.

G Adventures sells a great majority of its tours through travel advisors and has as many as 85 consortia partnerships, mostly in the U.S. – and it is aggressive in offering incentives to sellers. The annual G-Normous promotion, which runs for the first four months of the year, offers over $75,000 in prizes, including a $10,000 top prize, lots of cash giveaways, free trips and bonus commissions.

Change Makers Summit

In September, the Change Makers Summit – an annual conference for advisors – will return for the first time since 2019 in G Adventures’ top destination, Peru. A Change Makers Challenge is running from March 1-June 30 with 13 advisors chosen from each major market based on their sales and brought to Peru for the event. There they will meet with global purpose specialists and senior leaders for a week.

The feedback from the travel community following the inaugural summit in 2019 was “incredible,” Lima said. “We change the lives of our travelers when they choose to explore the world with us. We’re so excited to not just welcome our valued travel advisors on this special trip, but to also celebrate the return to travel with them.”

Selling G Adventures

The operator offers the National Geographic Journeys Agent Specialist Program, a four-part course that provides advisors with everything they need to know to start booking tours. Sherpa is G Adventures’ advisor booking engine, which lets them book tours, check availability, order brochures, access online training, create marketing collateral and gain access to exclusive deals like G-Normous.

Also inside the portal is the Agent Backpack, filled with helpful selling tips and product training as well as access to a private “Agents of Chance” Facebook group.

G Adventures offers 13 Travel Styles. The newest is Roamies, a collaboration with Hostelworld designed for younger travelers who want to combine the fun of staying in some of the world’s best hostels with the ease and excitement of a G Adventures trip. Another unique Travel Style is Local Living, where travelers unpack once and stay at the same accommodations throughout. Among the options are a winery in Tuscany or a week or at lemon farm.

Travel booking times are shortening back to three to five months, with younger clients booking within one to two months out.

Portrait of the Client

G Adventures’ U.S. clients’ age averaged around 35-42 in the past, but with the expanded National Geographic and National Geographic Family lines, the company is seeing a lift in that range to 47-52. That includes more multigenerational groups on family adventures and more mature customers sailing on the G Expedition polar ship.

Over 68 percent of clients are female.

Hosted solo travelers are a significant contingent of the company portfolio – people avoiding big motorcoach tours but perhaps not ready to explore on their own.

The company is seeing more worldly/conscientious travelers who like knowing their trips are “Built with Purpose” and feature a supplier infrastructure that’s mindful of its impact on communities. The Ripple Score metric “has been super helpful to travelers who want to dig deeper into how their dollars make a difference,” Lima said.
