Behold the huge mega bloks uss enterprise.

I do wish that they could have used smooth plates on top of the saucer, but still ... looks good.

@ETY3: EXACTLY! It's a shame, as this is not marketed to kids who more likely than not don't give a damn about TOS, but adults instead. I can tell you 100% that I have zero interest in this, but actually would consider picking it up were there smooth plate bricks for the top and bottom of the primary hull, and I have to assume the majority of other adults feel the same. This was show I felt about the Klingon D7 as well, but that design is harder to realize in this fashion without some knobby bits showing through (although, perhaps I'm being too conservative there). On this TOS 1701, though, it was entirely possible to make the saucer smooth, and what's so stunning, is that they make that fact so obvious from the smoothness of the secondary hull and nacelles. I mean, you don't need comparisons; you can tell from the model shown that it didn't need to have the nubs show whatsoever. No amount of episode-specific backdrop images will help that. Considering how bad this looks to those it's really marketed at, I have to assume this is due to some contractual obligation to not provide an accurate model for fear of stepping on other licensees (like Mattel, QMx or Eaglemoss). That would be the only defense here, but it's just not strong enough for me to consider a purchase...except those figures, of course. People do love those, and more than the MiniMates, too. Maybe when Lego picks up the license in years to come, we'll get the 1701 we all want...and expected.

I did get it and, despite some frustrations, I love it. I made an unboxing and assembly video, too.

Review: Mega Bloks Star Trek U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701

I am very impressed with the Mega Bloks Star Trek U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 . It is a truly massive model of the starship from the original Star Trek series. It is made by Mega Bloks rather than Lego, but the quality and detail are excellent.

The model is made of 3098 pieces. Unlike Lego, they are not sorted into bags by assembly order, but rather semi-randomly. So, some initial sorting helped keep my sanity. I also kept a log of pieces that I was temporarily unable to find and what instruction step they were used in. I eventually found and placed them all, but it took a while.

One of the things that surprised me is that the model is entirely solid. There are no hollow void areas in it. So, large parts like the saucer section take quite a while to build up and are pretty heavy when finished.

All of the details are silk screen painted onto the pieces at the factory. There are no stickers to get old and peel off.

The orange (front) end of the nacelle will briefly light up when pressed and flicker with yellow and orange light similar to what was in the show.

Due to the scale of the model, there is an incredible amount of detail everywhere. I have built several different models of this vehicle from the original plastic model through to this and this model has the most detail.

Once the major assemblies are complete, they slide onto the corresponding struts. Not visible is a large wide strut that fits into the black display base to keep the whole model stable on the table.

Assembly took me several days during a snowstorm when both work and school were closed.

Build Your Own Enterprise! Celebrate 'Star Trek's' 50th with Mega Bloks

"Star Trek" fans, assemble! Later this year, fans of the sci-fi franchise who also love construction will have the chance to build their own Klingon battle cruiser, transporter room and (of course) the famed USS Enterprise.

To commemorate the 50th anniversary of "Star Trek" this fall, Mega Bloks — a product produced by Mega Brands, a subsidiary of the Mattel toy company — will release several kits aimed at people who followed the exploits of James T. Kirk and other crews of the USS Enterprise.

Not surprisingly, the flagship of the new "Star Trek" sets is the 3,100-piece USS Enterprise NCC-1701 itself, which will retail for $249.99. It's a 1/350 scale model of the famous ship that took Kirk and his crew across much of the galaxy. [ The Many Faces of the Starship Enterprise (Photos) ]

"It has key differentiated features that fans can appreciate, with a shaped, buildable display, authentic engraved dedication plaque, with ultracool light-up warp engines with a color-changing light pattern," said a Mega Bloks press release.

The Transporter Room ($39.99) is inspired by the awesome "Star Trek: The Original Series" episode called "Mirror, Mirror." In that episode, a malfunction in the transporter replaces the crew with evil versions of themselves from a mirror universe. Kirk, Spock and Scotty are all included in the set, which has room for up to six figures.

"The iconic Transporter Room has cool features that include new glow-in-the dark wall panels that are also interchangeable to include the Mirror Universe logo to switch between the classic and parallel universe scenes," Mega Bloks wrote in a product description.

The Klingon D-7 Battle Cruiser ($29.99) is a symbol of a species that was once the enemy of the United Federation of Planets (in "The Original Series"), but joined the federation before the events of "The Next Generation" series. Helming the ship is the legendary Captain Kor, who appeared in multiple "Star Trek" series.

"A buildable villain ship for ultimate build and display," Mega Bloks wrote. "The set includes a swiveling display stand, nameplate featuring the name of the ship, a Klingon Empire red flag and one highly detailed, superposeable micro action figure of Kor, captain of the ship, with his authentic disruptor weapon."

Mega Bloks has released some intriguing space and sci-fi themed sets over the years, including tie-ins to the recent "Star Trek" re-boot films, "Halo" video game series, and even "Call of Duty's" zombie astronauts on the moon and the Odin military space station (our personal favorites, after "Star Trek," of course).

The FNPP includes two KLT-40S reactor units. In such reactors, nuclear fuel is not replaced in the same way as in standard NPPs – partial replacement of fuel once every 12-18 months. Instead, once every few years the entire reactor core is replaced with and a full load of fresh fuel.

The KLT-40S reactor cores have a number of advantages compared with standard NPPs. For the first time, a cassette core was used, which made it possible to increase the fuel cycle to 3-3.5 years before refuelling, and also reduce by one and a half times the fuel component in the cost of the electricity produced. The operating experience of the FNPP provided the basis for the design of the new series of nuclear icebreaker reactors (series 22220). Currently, three such icebreakers have been launched.

The Akademik Lomonosov was connected to the power grid in December 2019, and put into commercial operation in May 2020.

Electricity generation from the FNPP at the end of 2023 amounted to 194 GWh. The population of Pevek is just over 4,000 people. However, the plant can potentially provide electricity to a city with a population of up to 100,000. The FNPP solved two problems. Firstly, it replaced the retiring capacities of the Bilibino Nuclear Power Plant, which has been operating since 1974, as well as the Chaunskaya Thermal Power Plant, which is more than 70 years old. It also supplies power to the main mining enterprises located in western Chukotka. In September, a 490 km 110 kilovolt power transmission line was put into operation connecting Pevek and Bilibino.
