DubiCompare — Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Vs Nissan Patrol: Clash Of The Japanese SUV Titans

On this week’s edition of DubiCompare, we are pitting the two most iconic Japanese SUVs against each other, the Toyota Land Cruiser 300 and the Nissan Patrol. This is a serious battle of titans of the SUV world and we are not messing around. This comparison article looks at the dimensions, design, features and mechanicals of the current-generation Land Cruiser and the Nissan Patrol. We will also look at some of the spin-off series that these two SUVs have spawned over the years.

nissan super safari vs land cruiser

But what this article will not be is a trip down memory lane. For that, we have two detailed articles discussing the history of the Toyota Land Cruiser and the Nissan Patrol features under the DubiCars Car Spotlight. Here are the links:

  • Toyota Land Cruiser: History & Generations
  • Nissan Patrol: History & Generations

Enjoy the walk down the history lane, it is worth it. Now back to the ultimate face-off.

nissan super safari vs land cruiser

Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Vs Nissan Patrol: Dimensions

In terms of dimension, the Nissan Patrol is a clear winner with a longer wheelbase, taller ground clearance and a larger fuel tank. This means the Patrol is more practical and can go over larger boulders. However, the boot space on the LC is a bit bigger.

nissan super safari vs land cruiser

Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Vs Nissan Patrol: Exterior Design

In terms of design, the Land Cruiser 300 and the Nissan Patrol are evenly matched. Both have subtle boxy styling. The straight-up stance provides an imposing road presence for both SUVs. However, Nissan and Toyota do offer a sporty version of both SUVs called the Patrol Nismo and Land Cruiser 300 GR-Sport.

Out of the two sporty versions, the Nismo is a better pick compared to the GR-Sport as Nissan has given it more power, bigger wheels and some striking-looking bumpers. While the GR-Sport gets smaller 18-inch wheels catering to off-road credentials. Now let’s see some exterior feature comparison.

nissan super safari vs land cruiser

Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Vs Nissan Patrol: Interiors & Features

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it – the Japanese have taken this theory a bit too seriously. The LC and the Patrol have subtle interiors with a good amount of tech. But given the real estate on the inside, both SUVs could do with a couple of more features. However, the biggest advantage of the Nissan Patrol is its eight-seat configuration over the seven-seat layout of the LC 300. Also, as we saw earlier, it has more room on the inside because of a longer wheelbase.

nissan super safari vs land cruiser

There is no denying the fact that the Toyota Land Cruiser 300 has a longer list of features catering to comfort and convenience than the Nissan Patrol.

Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Vs Nissan Patrol: Engine & Performance

Now this is where things get interesting. The Nissan Patrol is offered with two naturally-aspirated petrol engine options: a 4.0-litre V6 or a 5.6-litre V8. On the other hand, Toyota Land Cruiser 300 in the UAE is offered with either a 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 or a 4.0-litre NA V6. We will compare the power figures of base-spec and top-spec powerplants.

nissan super safari vs land cruiser

The base-spec Nissan Patrol engine is marginally better than the LC. However, the top-spec engine will have to go to the LC because the power is delivered efficiently as compared to the large NA V8 on the Patrol. Soon, Nissan will be replacing the V8 engine with the twin-turbo V6 much like the LC.

nissan super safari vs land cruiser

Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Vs Nissan Patrol: Off-Road

To keep it fair, we have compared the top-spec trims of both SUVs to get the right idea of their off-road capabilities. The Nissan Patrol might have better off-road angles, but it is heavier and has a longer wheelbase than the Toyota Land Cruiser. So, we feel both are evenly matched when things go rough and hilly. However, the Patrol’s edge here is its NA V8 engine on the top-spec trim that delivers power without any lag. In terms of off-road hardware, the LC 300 and the Patrol come equipped with a limited-slip differential, locking diffs, a low-range gearbox and terrain modes. Both SUVs also have their own electronic suspension setup that keeps the car upright and stable.

Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Vs Nissan Patrol: Safety

The Land Cruiser 300 and the Patrol come with a host of active and passive safety features. However, as the LC is relatively new in the market as compared to the Patrol, it is slightly better equipped with active safety features as compared to the Nissan Patrol.

nissan super safari vs land cruiser

Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Vs Nissan Patrol: Spin-Offs

Nissan and Toyota recognised that off-road purists would want their cars to be about driving and not become a tech-fest. This encouraged both manufacturers to keep the rugged no non-sense versions of their SUVs. The Nissan Patrol has the Super Safari and the Land Cruiser has the 70-Series which are moderately equipped and are better off-roaders with a rugged styling.

Toyota has gone further by offering a mid-spec version of the Land Cruiser called the Prado or the LC 250. Also, Toyota has recently updated its Land Cruiser 300, Land Cruiser 250/Prado and the 70-Series SUVs. However, Nissan is lagging in updating its SUV range.

Toyota Land Cruiser 300-Series

Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Vs Nissan Patrol: Price, Colour & Variants

Toyota offers the Land Cruiser 300 in seven variants and six colour options depending on the variant.

  • 4.0L EXR: AED 238,900
  • 4.0L GXR: AED 269,900
  • 4.0L VXR: AED 308,900
  • 3.5L EXR: AED 307,900
  • 3.5L GXR: AED 329,900
  • 3.5L VXR: AED 377,900
  • GR-Sport: AED 412,900

nissan super safari vs land cruiser

On the other hand, the Nissan Patrol is offered in 9 variants and six colour options depending on the variant.

  • 4.0L SE T1: AED 210,000
  • 4.0L SE T2: AED 233,500
  • 4.0L SE Titanium: AED 260,500
  • 4.0L SE Platinum: AED 286,500
  • 5.6L LE T1: AED 240,000
  • 5.6L LE T2: AED 290,000
  • 5.6L LE Titanium: AED 318,000
  • 5.6L LE Platinum: AED 347,000
  • Nismo: AED 398,000

Both the base and the top-spec Patrol are more affordable than the Land Cruiser 300. If you are looking for a performance for an affordable price, the Nissan Patrol would be your pick. But as an overall package, the Land Cruiser 300 is a better choice because of its efficiency and interior features.

Nissan Patrol Super Safari vs Toyota Land Cruiser | Core Differences

Nissan Patrol Super Safari vs Toyota Land Cruiser

The automobile industry has succeeded recently, although there has been competition among automakers for a long time. Every automaker aspires to be the best in the world of auto comparison regarding sales, performance, technology, development, and design. Many automakers have firmly established their names as the greatest and most recognizable SUV manufacturers worldwide in the actual world of the SUV market. The two most recognizable brands today are Toyota and Nissan. These days, Toyota and Nissan compete fiercely, especially regarding the nissan patrol super safari vs toyota land cruiser models.

Overview of Nissan Patrol Super Safari

Nissan Patrol Super Safari vs Toyota Land Cruiser

This business-oriented SUV has been produced since 1998, in its FIFTH generation. A three-door model with a short wheelbase and a five-door model with a long wheelbase were both created for the vehicle.

The Nissan Patrol displayed levels of road skill and poise that were astonishing and thrilling. Because of this, Nissan Patrol is a lot of fun to drive. A 5.6-litre engine that can generate 317 horsepower also powers the Nissan Patrol. Nissan Patrol is remarkably sensitive and smooth due to the characteristics of the direct injection valve.

It has Six-cylinder in-line engines with displacements of 2.8 and 4.2 liters (129 and 160 horsepower, respectively) for turbo diesel and 4.5 liters (200 hp) for gasoline made up the engine lineup. Since the petrol “Patrol” only had an “automatic” and was exceptionally well-equipped, featuring, among other things, body-coloured bumpers, it cannot generally be called an uncompromising off-road vehicle.

However, a five-speed manual gearbox was paired with the diesel engines. The upgraded Nis-san Patrol GR first went on sale in 2000.

Since then, a strip on the upper side of the bumper and a chrome grille has been used to distinguish all SUV models. The final quality has increased with the restyling. The variety of possibilities has grown, but the fundamental equipment hasn’t altered much.

Additionally, the interior of the Nissan Patrol super safari has been updated to meet the tastes and preferences of its devoted customers. The inside of the Nissan Patrol is designed to be the highest caliber and to satisfy the requirements and standards of its consumers.

They added legroom, elevated front seats, and seats in the third row. The functionality, comfort, and space of the Nissan Patrol’s cabin were also commended.

Although the engine is fairly dependable and low maintenance, its power is occasionally insufficient for a hefty jeep. I advise inspecting the timing belt before purchasing a vehicle with such a turbo diesel.

The Nissan Patrol super safari super is an incredibly adaptable car. Every day, you can travel in luxury to and from work and go on weekend excursions into nature without having to worry too much about the road’s condition.

Expert Opinion

If you compare the sales figures for the Land Cruiser and Nissan patrol super safari over the previous five years, you might conclude that there is only one contender in this race. Yes, the LC200 outsold the Y62 by about five to one, but this is primarily due to drivers’ preference for diesel engines.

Nissan Patrol Super Safari review: the best of both worlds

Off-road or on the motorway, the 2022 model of the region’s legendary suv is here to conquer everything in its path.

Since its resurrection in 2017, the Nissan Patrol Super Safari has continued to dominate as the region’s favourite off-road vehicle. The Japanese manufacturer bowed to popular demand and brought the wilder Nissan Patrol back into production, and tweaked and tuned every new version for the better.

The 2022 Nissan Patrol Super Safari follows the trend. For starters, it sits slightly higher than its predecessors. This not only gives you a better view of what’s ahead, but also creates more clearance underneath the car to comfortably deal with extremely uneven terrain. Or an extra-large speed bump.

Engine: 6-cylinder, 4.8-litre Transmission: 5-speed automatic and manual Power: 280 brake horsepower Torque: 451Nm Price: from Dh153,00 On sale: now

Nissan has also introduced cruise control, anti-lock brakes, smart tyre-pressure monitoring and a number of other driving aids that make for a more comfortable ride. It’s now available in either a 5-speed manual or automatic gearbox. The result is that the 2022 Nissan Patrol Super Safari feels more at home than ever when you’re driving it on asphalt. We were fairly surprised just how smooth the drive was and the silence in the cabin as the 4.8-litre, 280bhp V6 engine roared away was impressive.

Choose between cloth, leather and PVC upholstery. Photo: Nissan

Now, if you just read that paragraph above and are worried that the Super Safari has been declawed, fear not — it’s equally as fun off the road as it is on it. There’s not much (if anything) that the robust suspension and new telescopic shock absorbers can’t handle. You feel more in control than ever thanks to the intelligent system that manages engine speed when under or oversteering. When we took it for a gentle spin off-road it instantly felt safely at home. The temptation to plant our foot and bounce over every hill in sight was palpable. This one lives for rough terrain.

Nissan has been very clever with its 2022 Patrol Super Safari. While improving the driving experience for thrill-seekers it has introduced the safety and comfort features found in the more luxurious Nissan Patrol, which will appeal to drivers. You can choose between cloth, leather or PVC upholstery for inside the cavernous cabin, with each seat providing comfy and ample space. And we love the straightforward nature of the Bluetooth connection that hooks your phone up to the in-car entertainment system easily.

Yes, it’s more of an everyday SUV now. You can use it for doing the school run, transporting friends and family or nipping out to do the grocery shopping. But it’s also ready to be loaded up with camping equipment, shovels and recovery sand boards at a moment’s notice for an off-road adventure.

Nissan’s evolution of the Super Safari has so far been well balanced. And this 2022 version delivers its most complete version yet. There’s no need to rip up the rule book when it comes to improvements, and by focusing on functionality and interior comfort upgrades, the Super Safari will live on for a long time.

5 Reasons to choose the Nissan Patrol vs the Land Cruiser (and 2 reasons not to)

nissan super safari vs land cruiser

I distinctly remember the great Japanese SUV wars of the ’90s. At the time, flooding was rampant, Mount Pinatubo had just erupted, and the Toyota  Tamaraw FX was king in the middle-class segment.

In the premium category, it was a crazy four-way battle between the Toyota Land Cruiser , the Nissan Patrol (then, Safari), the Isuzu Trooper , and the Mitsubishi Pajero . All were diesel-powered, extremely reliable, and off-road-capable family trucks that endlessly shuttled Filipinos to and from family vacations .

Over the years, the balance of power shifted from these expensive land barges to midsize SUVs like the Toyota  Fortuner and the Mitsubishi  Montero Sport . With sales dwindling, the old guard was slowly replaced by these more affordable offerings .

Today, with the Pajero on its last legs and Isuzu MIA in this segment, the undisputed king of the luxury hill is the Toyota Land Cruiser LC200 . The LC is a turbodiesel-powered behemoth and is the favorite of your friendly neighborhood politician.

Then there’s this one—the best of the rest, the Nissan Patrol Royale . Having made the jump to pure petrol power a few years back, it has never regained its footing, and a 2020 sighting on our roads is almost as rare as a congressman not using a ‘ wang-wang .’ But that doesn’t mean that you should count it out just yet. We had the Patrol for one weekend, and here are some reasons you should consider the Nissan over the Toyota:

1) It stands out in a sea of Land Cruisers.

White Nissan Patrol 2020 front shot

The LC200 is a sales monster. Toyota Motor Philippines has famously never had a demo unit for the Land Cruiser because its sales are so consistently high, there is simply no need to market it through media test drives. Wait for the SONA or drop by Bonifacio Global City on a Sunday, and you will see a plethora of Land Cruisers crowding the roads like the kings they are. You know what you won’t see? A Patrol.

In our time with the Nissan, it constantly turned heads with its bold design. Love it or hate it, this SUV has a unique curvy side profile that belies its size. It looks just different enough to be special, and among all the relatively tame and serious-looking Land Cruisers, it stands out with its whimsical design—and that, for some, is enough to consider this Nissan.

2) It’s a much more affordable choice than the Toyota.

White Nissan Patrol 2020 logo closup

Thanks to the JPEPA agreement, the Patrol received a massive price drop. This full-specification unit retails for P3,988,000 , while the Land Cruiser’s bare-bones variant costs P4,569,000,  reaching a peak of P4,935,000 for the full-spec version. That’s price difference between the range-toppers is worth a Vios.

This massive difference is amplified when you realize the Patrol is even cheaper than the diesel Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, a much smaller SUV. That fact makes the former a steal in our eyes.

3) It’s got a strong history of performance and reliability.

White Nissan Patrol 2020 tire closeup

While the Land Cruiser definitely has an illustrious history, what people tend to forget is that the Nissan Patrol is no slouch when it comes to having made a name for itself over the years. The Patrol was the first vehicle to cross the Simpson Desert in the Australian outback.

Much more impressively, it has had success in the then-grueling  13,000km Paris-Dakar Rally . Back in 1987, it won in the Diesel Class and became the first-ever diesel vehicle to manage a top-10 finish, securing ninth overall.

4) The cabin exudes old-school luxury.

Again, the full-spec Patrol is cheaper than the bare-bones Land Cruiser. What does ‘full specification’ mean? It means this Nissan has features like air-conditioned seats that take the legendary Nissan reputation for cold A/C to a whole new level. It means that there are screens built into the rear headrests for the kids, and it means there’s a Bose premium audio system. Full specification indeed.

The problem with old-school luxury is that there are certain dated features in the infotainment system. For instance, Nissan still touts ‘iPod Connectivity’ as a feature, even if the iPod Classic was discontinued by Apple in 2014, with the Nano and the Shuffle likewise being discontinued in 2017.

5) Petrol power!

White Nissan Patrol 2020 engine

The first thing that strikes you when you step on the gas in this massive SUV is the immediacy of the power delivery. Throttle response is amazing from low revs—instant thrust in a way that only a gas engine can provide. Specifically, the Patrol is equipped with a huge 5.6-liter V8 mated to a seven-speed gearbox. It boasts an impressive 400hp , which utterly dwarfs the 232hp on tap in the Land Cruiser.

While the V8 isn’t the most efficient mill, it definitely has the grunt to move this barge of an SUV without seeming to break a sweat. Add to this the inherent cleanliness of a gas engine, and you would be remiss in ignoring the Patrol’s strengths.

To be honest, it’s not all just positives, though—there are a few areas where the Patrol falls short of the LC. Here are two off the top of our heads:

1) Petrol power.

White Nissan Patrol 2020 v8 logo

While the Patrol has a much higher horsepower rating, for large SUVs like this, torque is more important. The Patrol may have a decent 560Nm on tap, but the Land Cruiser, being a diesel V8, has a much more appealing 615Nm . This results in less revving and more straightforward pulling power. Some say it’s also more efficient, but we were not able to test the Toyota for this.

To many Filipino buyers, a diesel is always a more appealing buy, and for this reason, the Land Cruiser is hard to beat.

2) The third row is a pain.

White Nissan Patrol 2020 cargo space

While the LC has a third row that is often criticized for folding up instead of folding flat, thereby sacrificing some trunk room, the Patrol is no better. Yes, the rearmost seats do fold flat (which would have been a plus point, truth be told), but the mechanism is quite cumbersome to operate. There is no electric system; instead, you get an old-school pull tab that you need to operate while leaning into the car from the middle row.

Thankfully, your efforts are rewarded with a much wider cargo area than in the LC, but whenever you will need to stick someone in the third row, you will curse the mechanism as you struggle with half your body sticking out from the passenger door. With the advent of push-button electrically operated rear seats, this is one feature we would like both Toyota and Nissan to work out.

So, there you have it—seven points to consider when shopping for your EDSA-crushing Japanese SUV. It has to be said, though, that both these vehicles have extremely dated infotainment systems; neither have Apple CarPlay  or Android Auto , and both have relatively aging displays—a cardinal sin in this day and age of retina displays and high-resolution touchscreens.

The Oldest New SUV That Still Nissan Makes And Why It Exists

  • The Nissan Patrol Safari Y61, known for its off-road prowess, has maintained its reputation for ruggedness and has a devoted fan base, particularly in regions like Australia, the Middle East, and Africa.
  • The Patrol Y61 is highly valued by non-governmental organizations and the United Nations for its unmatched capabilities in accessing remote and challenging locations, making it the ultimate choice for traversing unforgiving environments.
  • The Patrol Y61 offers versatile powertrain options and a comprehensive range of trim levels, catering to various needs and applications. It boasts a powerful 4.8-liter gasoline engine, making it a favorite among Middle Eastern tuners who push its performance to over 1000 horsepower.

Fewer vehicles can command the respect and admiration that the legendary Nissan Patrol Safari does. The Patrol Safari built originally in the 1950s with inspiration from the Willy's Jeep, this Japanese marvel has managed to uphold its reputation of unwavering ruggedness, owing to its exceptional off-road prowess. The Patrol has garnered a strong following in regions such as Australia, the Middle East, and Africa where off-road exploration and daring escapades prevail, and has cultivated a devoted fan base.

The fifth-generation Patrol Safari Y61 is a model the North American region never had the pleasure of seeing, however, the region got its first introduction to the Patrol-based platform in 2010 with the introduction of the second-generation Infiniti QX56. The Patrol Y61 remains the oldest new Nissan SUV that is still in production in selected markets as demand for the SUV has not weaned the slightest.

The Patrol Safari doesn't hold the distinction of being the oldest Japanese truck still in production, that spot is shared with its arch-nemesis the Toyota Land Cruiser 70 Series . While the newer iterations of the Nissan Patrol boast heightened luxury and a plethora of modern features, these aspects gracefully take a back seat in the narrative of this article. Instead, it is the fifth-generation Patrol Super Safari Y61 that claims the spotlight in this epic saga of classic mobility.

A 4x4 That Is Worth It For Corporations And Enthusiasts Alike

For nearly three decades, the Nissan Patrol Y61 has stood as the primary choice of vehicle for Non-governmental organizations operating in Africa. The vehicle's unmatched capabilities have made it an indispensable asset for these organizations, allowing them to access remote and challenging locations that are beyond the reach of conventional pick-up trucks and standard SUVs. Given the necessity to transport vital supplies to remote areas, the Patrol Y61's enduring performance has solidified its position as the ultimate choice for traversing such unforgiving environments.

Enthusiasts love the Patrol Y61 for its off-road capabilities thanks in part to its four-wheel drive system with an intelligent rear differential lock that allows the SUV to navigate difficult terrain such as mud or sand easily by distributing torque evenly to the rear wheels. Up front are three-link and five-link rear telescopic shocks and heavy-duty coil springs to ensure that the SUV beats all obstacles in its way. Nissan has made sure that whether enthusiast use or corporate, drivers are not left lacking with a host of features including:

  • Tan leather seats and door trim
  • Eight-way powered driver seat
  • Four-way passenger seats
  • Automatic climate control
  • Navigation system with Bluetooth, USB, CD, AUX, and AM/FM radio
  • Rear Pintle hook
  • Dual front airbags
  • Cruise control

In the Middle East region, the Y61 Patrol is a regular fixture on the desert dunes, in both its original form and as customized versions, a testament to its popularity and adaptability in the region. Nissan's continuous production of the Y61 Patrol isn't for amusement purposes as the vehicle is one of the big sellers in the region.

In the United Arab Emirates, for example, the Patrol Super Safari Y61 has a base price of 178,000 AED, which translates to $48,461. While this price point might not raise eyebrows among North American readers accustomed to different market standards, it's essential to consider that the Patrol Safari is the definition of basic as you will be hard-pressed to even get navigation on some models.

Versatile And Robust Powertrain Powers This Body-On-Frame SUV

The Nissan Patrol Y61 has firmly cemented its position as the preferred vehicle for Non-governmental Organizations (NGOs) and the United Nations (UN). Recognizing this significant role, Nissan has curated a collection of aid-specific models tailored to the requirements of these organizations. These specialized models are equipped with a diverse array of engine options, catering to varying needs across different trim levels. The engine displacements span a range from 2.8 to 4.8 liters, encompassing both four and six-cylinder configurations, available in either gasoline or diesel variants.

The Nissan Patrol Y61's extensive lineup of trim levels ensures that there is a model suited for every specific application. The available trims include STD, GL, GRX, Amsterdam Stock GL, and Ambulance. This comprehensive range caters to a spectrum of needs, from essential transport to advanced configurations required for specialized missions.

Specifically, the Patrol Safari is powered by a 4.8 liter inline six gas-powered engine producing 280 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. Power translates to the wheels via a five-speed manual transmission or five-speed automatic transmission. The Patrol's 4.8-liter gas engine is noticeably more powerful than its competitor the Land Cruiser 70 Series. As expected, the powerful six-cylinder gets horrendous gas mileage of 13 mpg when off-roading and 19 mpg in city driving.

Nissan Patrol Engine Specifications

The diverse engine line-up of the Patrol is held in high regard as reliable and durable, some Middle Eastern tuners have pushed the 4.8-liter engine to over 1000 horsepower. These tuners race the highly modified Patrols up the many steep dunes in the Middle Eastern region, A quick search on YouTube will yield many videos of modified Nissan Patrol beating supercars and recking dunes.

The Rugged Nissan SUV's Design Variation And Interior

The Patrol Y61 has always had an iconic design that has not changed much from the previous generation Y60. From the beginning, the Patrol has maintained a rugged boxy design that is functional and appealing . The Y61 received a light refresh in 2005 that saw new fender flares, headlights, and a larger taillight. The front is dominated by a long hood sheltering the beastly six-cylinder and a large bumper, a long side step makes it easy to step into the vehicle through the large doors.

The Nissan Y61 Patrol can be had as a four-door SUV or a two-door available in the Middle Eastern Region. The rear end features a split barn door with a spare tire housing mount on the right side, the rear of the Super Safari sports a spoiler at the edge of the back that adds to the visual appeal. Although rugged, the Patrol Super Safari does have a sunroof that offers a bit of modern creature comforts.

The interior of the Patrol is as simple as it is practical. The Patrol Safari comes with leather seats with leather door inserts contrasting the black dashboard. An 8.0-inch infotainment system takes center stage in the middle of the dash with silver contrasting sides. Unlike many modern luxury SUVs today, the Super Safari has a traditional shifter in the center console. The center armrest features a cool box to store your drink on those hot weather days.

Summing Up The Nissan Patrol

The Nissan Patrol Super Safari is an undeniable legend of offroading that very few have had the pleasure to experience due to its limited market availability and lack of modern-day creature comforts. This SUV exists in Nissan's portfolio of vehicles to serve individuals and organizations with a desire to go places many would dare not.

The Patrol is the last of a dying breed along with the 70 Series Land Cruiser that is unapologetically raw in its build concept, a vehicle that justifies the phrase " if its not broke, dont fix it". The fifth generation Y61 Patrol is a gentle reminder of a bygone era of automotive industry when manufacturers cared more about how well machines worked instead of pleasing the masses with plush interiors and unnecessary technology that distracts from the journey.

Toyota Land Cruiser vs Nissan Patrol: Which Is Better for Overlanding?

Join us as we compare the two best suvs in the industry for overlanding. here's the toyota land cruiser vs nissan patrol debate..

Toyota Land Cruiser vs Nissan Patrol: Which Is Better for Overlanding?

The Land Cruiser and the Nissan Patrol are considered to be the two kings of the full-size SUV class. Both are considered to be tough, powerful, reliable, and luxurious machines by two of the top Japanese carmakers in the world. But who wins when you compare the Land Cruiser and the Nissan Patrol for trailblazing? To answer this, the following is the Toyota Land Cruiser vs Nissan Patrol comparison.

Learn more about the Land Cruiser here .

Land Cruiser vs Nissan Patrol: Powertrain

We begin the LandCruiser vs Patrol debate with their engines. Both vehicles have had excellent engines in terms of power and capability. If you compare the 90s versions of these cars (LC 80 series and Patrol Y60), both had excellent straight-6 engine options (the diesel versions were turbo-charged).

In the 2000s, things changed with the Land Cruiser 100 series offering both V6 and V8 options. At the same time, the Patrol Y61 offered an I6, but it was a great engine if you wanted to tune it. The turbo-diesels on the Patrol were also replaced by naturally aspirated diesel engines.

So, what if we compare the Land Cruiser 200 series and the Nissan Patrol Y62 engines? Well, you’ll be glad to know that both vehicles come with V8s that are much more refined and efficient. however, the Patrol loses its diesel engines altogether.

If you’re interested in buying a brand-new LandCruiser or Patrol, know that you’ll be getting a turbo six-cylinder engine (the 2023 Patrol loses the V8). However, the power outputs are as high as ever and so are the fuel efficiencies.

As far as the transmissions are concerned, both vehicles offer manual gearboxes in all of their generations except for the most recent ones. As expected, 4x4 drivetrains are also offered on both vehicles.

Land Cruiser vs Nissan Patrol: Numbers

The next comparison between Land Cruiser and Nissan Patrol is between their figures. Currently, the more recently updated Land Cruiser has the edge when it comes to horsepower. However, the Patrol Y61 and Y62 are more powerful than the LC 100 and 200 series respectively.

As far as the maximum towing capacity is concerned, the two vehicles are the same. If we go back, the maximum ratings are the same for both but the LC has a higher minimum rating. In the 90s models, the Land Cruiser had a clear win over the Patrol.

But what about the fuel economy ratings of these behemoths? Well, both of them aren’t exactly built for earth huggers. However, the Patrol is better overall in this regard since the LC has mostly had the bigger engine.

Acceleration

Then there’s the acceleration, in which the Patrol is also better. Despite the Land Cruiser being more powerful, the Patrol’s power-to-weight ratio has always made it quicker from 0 to 60 mph. Both the SUVs are quick nonetheless.

Land Cruiser vs Nissan Patrol: Interior

There are two important aspects of the interior of these cars. The first is the build quality, which is solid for both of them. Then there’s the luxurious trait, in which the Y62 Patrol is better than the Land Cruiser. However, the older Land Cruiser models are more luxurious than their Patrol counterparts.

Land Cruiser vs Nissan Patrol: Driving

Both these vehicles are brilliant to drive as they’re comfortable and powerful with commanding driver positions. But where they really shine is on the trail. The Land Cruiser and Patrol feature all the gadgets that make a capable offroader.

However, the Patrol is the better offroader due to its greater ground clearance, as explained here .

Land Cruiser vs Nissan Patrol: Reliability

Both the vehicles are known to be reliable but with a couple of problems. The Land Cruiser has faced issues with the gearbox and oil consumption. Meanwhile, some Patrol models have faced some issues as well.

Land Cruiser vs Nissan Patrol: Price

Finally, we compare the LandCruiser and Patrol in terms of their prices. As the Land Cruiser holds its value better, a used Nissan Patrol will be the cheaper option.

Land Cruiser vs Nissan Patrol: Verdict

So, which is better, Land Cruiser or Nissan Patrol? Well, it is a clear tie between the two. The Land Cruiser gets the win in terms of engine options, power, and interior luxury (older models). The Patrol wins when it comes to fuel economy, acceleration, build quality, offroading ability, and price.

Both are excellent vehicles for overlanding and you should consider the aspects discussed above.

The Big SUV: 2022 Nissan Patrol Vs 2022 Toyota Land Cruiser

We compare the international version of the 2022 Nissan Armada to the 2022 Toyota Land Cruiser that we dearly crave, in this big SUV face-off.

The Nissan Patrol and Toyota Land Cruiser are two famed names in the big SUV leagues. The Middle East and various other countries on the other side of the Atlantic pond love these two SUVs for being immortally reliable. Toyota dropped a big bomb with the all-new generation of the Land Cruiser in 2021 after 14 long years.

It wreaked havoc and people were going gaga, like fans at a Michael Jackson concert. It is an all-new ground-up SUV that still echos its predecessor's legacy. The world loves it and its sleeker styling. But sadly, we don't get the next-gen Land Cruiser (yet) as Toyota was unable to position its legend among the super-staked SUVs that we have here in the US. But all hope is not lost as we are getting its plusher cousin - the all-new next-gen Lexus LX for 2022.

It is technically a Land Cruiser in a tuxedo. The Nissan Patrol has a similar upbringing, but it hasn't been updated much since 2010 when the sixth-gen model came out. The most that Nissan got it refreshed was with a sharper front fascia that looks cool for sure. But despite lagging, it is still available in the US as the Nissan Armada , and that matters! We compare both these brutes and try to conclude which of these two luxuriously capable SUVs is the better one.

Nissan Patrol Vs Toyota Land Cruiser: Pricing And Trims

If you think that the Nissan Patrol looks familiar, you aren't wrong. Because the Nissan Armada that we get in the US is technically a rebadged Patrol. Talking about the UAE-specific model, the 2022 Patrol comes in eight trim levels - LE, Safari, SE, and XE.

Nissan recently also introduced a Nismo trim, cos why not! Prices for the 2022 Nissan Patrol start from an equivalent of around $55,000 and top out at around $91,000. In comparison, the Armada comes in 4 trims and ranges from $49,150-$68,550.

In other markets, the 2022 Land Cruiser is offered in six trim levels - GL, GXL, VX, Sahara, Sahara ZX, and GR Sport. In Japan, the new-gen Land Cruiser starts with an equivalent of $46,500 and tops out at $73,000. In Australia, the prices go notably up to over $100,000. But yes, if you look at the bigger picture, the Land Cruiser has gotten pricier, but it is well worth the whole new page.

Nissan Patrol Vs Toyota Land Cruiser: Engine And "Do It All" Performance

In most parts of the world, the Nissan Patrol is powered by a 5.6-Liter naturally-aspirated V8 motor, churning out 400 hp and 413 lb-ft. Mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission, power is sent to all four wheels in a 4X4 system. But, as always, UAE is dear to Nissan, which is why it gets a Nismo trim with 20 more horses from the V8.

But, on the other end, Toyota Land Cruiser has parted ways with its V8. It has now been replaced with an all-new 3.6-Liter twin-turbo V6 motor that churns out 409 hp and 479 b-ft of torque. Despite having two fewer cylinders, the power has gone up by almost 30 horses.

In certain parts, the new Land Cruiser also gets a new 3.3-Liter twin-turbo turbo diesel with 304 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via a clever 10-speed automatic transmission. So, despite losing out on the V8 fever, it is the Toyota that puts more options on the table.

Nissan Patrol Vs Toyota Land Cruiser: Driving Dynamics And Hauling Capabilities

Nissan Patrol still rides on a decade-old platform, but a tried-and-tested one. This makes the Patrol an easy tamer with better body control. Toyota has tweaked its GA-F platform with increased rigidity and lesser weight.

Both the 2022 Nissan Patrol and the 2022 Toyota Land Cruiser can tow 3,500 kg (7700 pounds). But Patrol takes the payload position with 750 kg (1653 pounds) which is 100 kg (220 pounds) more than the new Land Cruiser.

Rugged Yet Plush-Looking Exterior Face-Off

Both Nissan and Toyota have made huge SUVs look polished and brawny at the same time. While the Patrol's design is not a revolution since it still is based on the sixth-generation model, it still managed to breathe in the fresh air with a sharper front fascia design. Toyota Land Cruiser is all-new and has our heart here by having old-school vibes despite flaunting a modern design language. But in terms of dimensions, the Patrol is larger than the Land Cruiser.

Related: Lexus Off-Roader SUV Comparison: 2022 LX600 Vs 2003 LX470

Spacious And Surprisingly Luxurious Interior In Both

Both these luxury SUVs are neck-on-neck when it comes to keeping their occupants cozy and tech-savvy. Common features include heated and ventilated seats, sunroof, satellite navigation, and power-adjustable front seats and steering wheel. But Toyota edges forward when it comes to technology.

The Land Cruiser's 12-3-inch infotainment unit is superior to the 8-inch in the Nissan Patrol. The seating is a bit more spacious in the Patrol, thanks to the added dimensions. The quality of materials is at par, but while the Patrol offers genuine leather, Land Cruiser makes its mark with fake ones.

2022 Nissan Patrol Vs 2022 Toyota Land Cruiser: Which Big SUV Has The Edge?

Both the SUVs are neck-on-neck when it comes to luxurious off-roading experiences. The only difference is that Toyota has turned over a new leaf, but Nissan continues to embrace the old-school appeal. But Nissan's leaf will soon be turned, and we suspect that they will take the lead from Toyota soon after. But for now, it's a tally between the best off-roading luxury SUVs out there.

nissan super safari vs land cruiser

2021 Nissan Patrol “Super Safari” Is The New SUV You Really Want

We have lamented the Nissan Patrol SUV not being available in the US. Instead, we are stuck with the overpriced, bloated, overstuffed Armada. The 2021 Nissan Patrol “Super Safari” is the new SUV you really want. This is a full-size SUV 4×4 available in the Middle East and the Philippines. They’re rugged, dependable, and as capable as any stripped-down Toyota Land Cruiser.

The 2021 Patrol Super Safari has seen limited changes which is probably good

nissan super safari vs land cruiser

Nissan has chosen 1) not to change it since the late-1990s, and 2) not to make it available anywhere else but the aforementioned countries. For 2021 Nissan has added some great features and upgrades making us want it even more. The change you’ll notice first is that black has been added to the very limited pallet of Patrol colors. So now paint colors have really expanded with black added to either gold or white. No, we’re not kidding.

The other noticeable changes include 17-inch alloy wheels, now finished in black. Also, the Super Safari decal on the quarters has been updated. Nissan doesn’t hesitate to pull out all of the stops for some exciting and dynamic changes from 2020 to 2021 models. Not.

Inside the center stack is housed an eight-inch infotainment screen and includes Apple CarPlay. New cloth upholstery along with tan leather are two new features. An option is the addition of Super Safari embossing in the seats.

The Middle East get the Patrol-both as a two- or four-door

nissan super safari vs land cruiser

So why does the Middle East get the Patrol-both as a two- or four-door, and the rest of the world doesn’t? Thierry Sabbagh, Nissan’s Managing Director in the Middle East, told Carbuzz that Super Safari’s longevity in the Middle East is due to its “deep-rooted heritage.” He continues that the Patrol “adds a modern look to the powerful performance and durability of the SUV – maintaining its credibility to be the ideal partner for an off-road driving adventure across the region.” In other words, he doesn’t have a clue why.

We suppose if he knew why he’d be head of marketing or he’d be a VP at Nissan. Instead, he is tasked with providing no reason for the reason the Patrol is popular there and why it is not sold here. But we digress.

One reason we can readily see why the Patrol is so popular in the Middle East is price

nissan super safari vs land cruiser

One reason we can readily see is because of the price . The 2021 Patrol Super Safari lists for 171k AED, which translates to $47k in the US. Some may find that a bit high considering the Nissan Armada starts at just $1,500 more. But let’s get real; most Armadas are loaded up to the $65,000 to $80,000 price. That is getting close to twice the price of a Patrol.

We can lament further but instead look to the immediate future for a new Nissan Titan and its SUV offshoot Armada. Nissan has a lot of catching up to do as it has let its catalog of vehicles somewhat die on the vine. That in turn has caused a cash crunch that puts the future of the company in question. There is hope that Nissan can get its act together and start a product cadence of new, competitive vehicles that match feature to feature the best in each class.

History of Nissan Patrol Super Safari

Origins and early history of nissan patrol super safari.

The Nissan Patrol Super Safari has its roots in the broader Nissan Patrol series, which has been an iconic part of Nissan’s lineup since the early 1950s. Established as a rival against vehicles like the series Land Rover, the Patrol was marketed as a no-nonsense off-roader built to take on the most challenging terrains. Over the years, the Patrol series evolved significantly from its utilitarian beginnings into a more sophisticated and comfortable vehicle, while maintaining its rugged capabilities. The Super Safari variant, introduced in the late 1980s, marked a significant milestone in the Patrol series and quickly became a favorite among off-road enthusiasts.

The Evolution of Nissan Patrol Super Safari

Over the years, the Nissan Patrol Super Safari saw numerous modifications and improvements in design, performance, and technology. From the initial y60 model to the current y61 version, each generation aimed to improve upon the last by incorporating state-of-the-art designs and features.

One of the first major facelifts occurred with the transition from the y60 to the y61 model. This carried significantly enhanced features, including a new exterior design, interior refurbishments, and engine upgrades. The y61 model provided both luxury and reliability without compromising the vehicle’s renowned off-road prowess.

Key Influencers Behind Its Development

Nissan’s primary objective behind the Super Safari was to create a vehicle that combined luxury and comfort with off-road capacity. This model was the result of extensive research and development by Nissan’s team of engineers and designers who understood the need for a robust, comfortable, and versatile 4×4 vehicle.

One of the key influencers in the Patrol Super Safari’s development was consumers’ feedback and their need for improvements. Nissan consistently incorporated this feedback into the design and performance of the Super Safari, leading to ongoing refinement of its specifications, power, and comfort levels.

The Unique Features Each Model Introduced

Every new iteration of the Nissan Patrol Super Safari introduced distinct features that set it apart from its predecessor. The y60 model, for example, was the first to introduce the coil-sprung suspension instead of the traditional leaf springs, resulting in better suspension and a smoother ride.

The y61 model saw an introduction of a more powerful engine, a turbo diesel option, as well as a direct injection petrol engine. Additionally, Nissan added creature comforts normally found in more upscale vehicles like an adjustable steering wheel, power windows, and dual airbags.

Perhaps the most notable feature, unique to the Super Safari, is its off-road prowess. The Super Safari’s robust engine, combined with a highly capable 4WD system and high ground clearance, allows it to tackle the harshest and diverse terrains with ease.

nissan super safari vs land cruiser

Ever “softer” and car-like, more luxurious and exponentially complicated, modern SUVs have become more popular, but less capable, more fragile and have largely lost the authenticity and extensively rugged abilities the segment was previously known for. However, the breed is not completely extinct, with some manufacturers maintaining tough old school SUVs, including legacy models like the UAZ Hunter, and previous generation Nissan Patrol and Toyota Land Cruiser variants, alongside more modern successors.

UAZ’s second best known vehicle, the Hunter is essentially a civilian version of the iconic Russian 469 military off-roader first introduced in 1972. Developed and improved incrementally since, the Hunter is powered by a more modern 2.7-litre petrol four-cylinder engine, mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Producing 133BHP at 4,600rpm and 160lb/ft at 2,500rpm, it yields 90 per cent of maximum torque over an accessibly wide 2,000-4,500rpm band, and achieves a 130km/h top speed.

A highly capable and uncompromising off-roader with stiff body-on-chassis construction and tough all-round live axle suspension with front coil springs for improved ride and wheel travel in front, and rugged rear leaf springs, the Hunter operates rear wheels on-road, but can engage four-wheel-drive and low gear ratios for difficult low traction off-road conditions. Riding with 210mm ground clearance, it boasts excellent off-road angles including a 50° approach, and 500mm water fording capability.

A practical and utilitarian 5-door SUV with 1,830-litre cargo capacity and a functional and un-pretentious cabin, the Hunter’s compact dimensions make it something of a mountain goat that easily negotiates narrow and demanding routes and trails. Available in hard- or soft-top versions, the Hunter range includes a more capable Expedition version with improved 241mm clearance, 235/85R16 off-road tyres, electric winch, bull-bar, bottom-hinged tailgate, modified wheel-arches, reinforced bumpers and running boards with two crossbeams.

Nissan Patrol Super Safari ‘Y61’

A Gulf motoring icon, the Nissan Patrol “Y61” generation first launched in 1997 and was re-introduced in the Middle East in 2017, alongside its Y62 successor. However, the Y61 never truly went away, and was available for fleet sales and in some markets throughout its 2010-2017 “wilderness years”. Ruggedly durable, thoroughly capable and very comfortable, its comeback was tailored for regional preferences and includes luxurious Super Safari, and in-house modified Gazelle variants.

Utilitarian yet indulgent in character, the Y61’s chunky and upright design, tough build quality and off-road ability go unchanged, but its spacious and homely cabin receives modern infotainment features. Also unchanged is its metaphorically “bullet proof” 4.8-litre naturally-aspirated straight six-cylinder engine and 5-speed automatic gearbox. Smooth and progressive in operation and low-revving and abundant in delivery, it develops 276BHP at 4,800rpm and 332lb/ft torque at 3,600rpm, in the generous “gross” rating system.

Carrying its estimated 2.5-tonne mass at a reasonably brisk pace, the Y61 is a comfortable and relaxed on-road cruiser, dispatching long distances with a planted stability, forgiving ride, bank vault-like solidity and velvety refinement. In its element through inhospitable terrain, it rides with 215mm ground clearance and generous off-road angles, and benefits from a tough construction, while low gear ratios and a locking rear differential ensure progress over more extreme conditions.

Toyota Land Cruiser 70 Wagon GXL

Largely unchanged and in continuous production since 1984, the Toyota Land Cruiser 70 was mildly revised for a then more contemporary look in 2007, and again recently for the 2024 model year. Its latest aesthetic refresh includes notably a chunkier style, with a squared off bonnet and grille, and circular headlights with LED elements for a somewhat retro-inspired aesthetic, akin to the Toyota FJ Cruiser, rather than just being evolutionary in character.

That said, the Land Cruiser 70 remains a bona fide legacy model with the same tough body-on-frame construction and engineering, and rugged live-axle suspension design with front coil springs for comfort and long wheel-travel, and rear leaf springs for durability and authentic workhorse duties. Under its more stylized bonnet, the latest 70 retains its powerhouse 4.5-litre turbo-diesel V8 engine and 5-speed manual gearbox, but is available with 2.8-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder with automatic transmission.

Developing 202BHP at 3,400rpm and huge 317lb/ft torque throughout a low-revving 1,200-3,200rpm band, the Land Cruiser 70 normally drives its rear wheels, but can engage four-wheel-drive, low gear ratios and an optional differential lock for difficult off-road driving. Available in single and double cab pick-up, 3- and 5-door wagon or long wheelbase high roof 3-door “troop carrier” variants, it also receives a more modern, retro-styled and well-equipped cabin, and safety and infotainment tech.

During the 2024 Land Cruiser reveal, Toyota teased a smaller, still off-road capable-looking SUV in the background. We also saw a similar “Compact Cruiser” amidst Toyota’s smorgasbord of new EV concepts back in 2021. Both vehicles could preview a new Toyota SUV coming, the Land Cruiser FJ.

Here’s what you need to know about it.

Land Cruiser FJ should be the name

A LandCruiserForum user has uncovered a Toyota trademark application in Japan for “Land Cruiser FJ.” Toyota used “Land Hopper” for a three-wheel mobility concept . Per the Japanese website Best Car , another option could be “Land Cruiser FUN .” No name has been confirmed. But we’d have Land Cruiser FJ as the front-runner if it comes to North America.

The Toyota Land Cruiser FJ should be body-on-frame

According to Best Car and other reports , the Land Cruiser FJ should be a body-on-frame SUV on a shortened TNGA-F platform. It should be a compact SUV, similar in size to the Corolla cross. And we’d bet it looks boxy, judging from Toyota’s teaser, the Compact Cruiser concept and recent designs like the new Lexus GX .

The Toyota Land Cruiser FJ won’t be an EV — at least initially

Toyota initially unveiled the Compact Cruser as an EV concept. But Best Car says the Land Cruiser FJ will have a combustion engine. That report has the Land Cruiser FJ getting the 2TR-FE engine, which is the 2.7-liter inline-four base engine from the second and third-generation Tacomas. The report lists outputs of 161 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque.

Per Best Car Toyota abandoned work on the hybrid engine planned for the Land Cruiser FJ. A new hybrid version could arrive a year after the Land Cruiser FJ’s launch. We’d bet the more powerful hybrid version is the one Toyota would bring to America.

When will the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ arrive?

Best Car thinks the timeline may be delayed as Toyota deals with the fallout from its emissions cheating scandal . The outlet now expects Toyota to announce the vehicle sometime in 2024 with deliveries beginning in Spring 2025. If America has to wait for a hybrid version, that would mean 2026.

How much will the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ cost?

The Land Cruiser FJ should be super-affordable. Best Car is projecting a starting price between 3.5 and 4.5 million yen in the Japanese Market, which would be between $23,000 and $30,000 in America at the present exchange rate. YouTube analysis Kirk Kreifels believes the vehicle would be a bit more expensive in America , perhaps in the $30,000 to $40,000 range and slot below the 4Runner.

Will Toyota bring the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ to America?

Toyota has not confirmed the Land Cruiser FJ is coming. So we don’t know whether America will get it. But if the vehicle can clear emissions and safety standards in America, there’s no reason to think Toyota would not consider it.

The Land Cruiser FJ would come in at a price point Toyota dominates. If well executed, it could be a strong competitor for vehicles like the Ford Bronco Sport and undercut some of the markets for the Jeep Wrangler and Ford Bronco .

TOP-11 Moscow Parks to Visit

I have chosen the best 11 Moscow parks to visit and spend a beautiful time for you. Do not miss and choose one that you like the most – cycling, festivals, flowers, panoramic views and many other things are waiting for you!

Gorky Park (The Central Park of Culture and Leisure) – The main one of the Moscow Parks

In my opinion this park could be called the main park of the city. Why? Because of its huge territory, the central location and the amount of people visiting the park daily.  It was founded in 1928 and in 2011 it was totally reconstructed. Now it pleases visitors with modern objects and soft green lawns.

  • Oktybrskaya or Park Kultuty metro station, Krimsky Val, 9

The Gorky park is a the right choice for everyone! The youth will like a free WiFi, bicycles, skateboards and other rentals; the couples will enjoy spending time near the river, watching a sunset; parents will appreciate colorful playgrounds and a room for mother and child. Everyone can find something for themselves: from yoga classes  to watching movies in a cozy summer cinema, from dance classes to volleyball playground. Gorky Park is also the venue for all kinds of exhibitions, festivals, events for children and adults. During the winter there is one of the biggest skating rinks in the park.

Museon Art Park – A Second Gorky they say

“Museon” is located on the opposite side of Krimsky Val street. And right now some people believe that Gorky and Museon together is a one space sharing the same beauty.

  • Oktybrskaya or Park Kultuty metro station, Krimsky Val, 2

The Park of Arts was named this way because there is the largest composition of open-air sculptures in Russia. In its territory there are already more than 1000 unique exhibits: from monuments of the socialist realism era to various kinds of contemporary art. But this is not all the attractions of the park. In recent years, “Museon” has become an important cultural site of the city. The park regularly hold many different concerts, festivals, educational projects in the field of art and design. There is a Central House of the Artist, a comfortable summer cinema and other attractions on territory. Be sure to stroll pedestrian Crimean embankment, which looks like a modern park.

Neskuchny Garden – True Russian Nature is Here

Neskuchny garden is located on the right bank of the Moscow River. Today it is also seen as a part of the Gorky Park. This landscape park is one of the oldest in the city and is protected by the state. Its name was received from the Neskuchnoye Estate of  Prince Trubetskoi which is still located in the park.

  • Leninsky Prospekt metro station, Leninsky Prospect, 30

This park is famous mostly for its location close to the Gorky park. It is a quite place with true nature, lots of trees and squirrels and also ancient architecture. As in every park, there are sports and playgrounds, cafes and even a football field.

Zaryadye Park – 5 Steps Away From The Red Square

The area of this brand new park was opened only in September 2017 and located in the very heart of Moscow – right near the Red Square.

  • Open from 10AM to 10PM
  • Teatralnaya, Okhotnyi ryad, Ploschad Revolutsii

The park has 4 zones, each of them represent different parts of Russian landscapes. Above the river there is a floating bridge from where you get to see one of the best panoramic views on Moscow. Other attractions of the park are 5D cinema where you can take a flight above Moscow, few cafes and restaurants, pretty lakes with fishes and old preserved churches. In addition there is still being built a  philharmonic hall, covered with a huge dome and an Ice cage where the temperature will always stay below zero degrees.

When you are on the Red Square do not miss it!

All-Russia Exhibition Center (VDNKh) – The Soviet Style Moscow Park

Park VDNKh – one of the most famous parks in Moscow. This park is one of the sights of the city as it hasn’t changed much since the Soviet era.

  • VDNKh metro station, Prospect Mira, 119

The symbol of VDNKh is a fountain with 16 women symbolizing the friendship of the nations of the USSR. Around this fountain there are all the pavilions representing 16 republics. Now inside the pavilions you find various shops, cafes and exhibitions. If you go deep inside the park you will find a rocket Vostok and and an aircraft. What is funny the inside of the aircraft there is actually a photo exhibition. Near the northern entrance you there is a famous sculpture “Worker and Kolkhoz Woman”. It is extremely famous among Russians as all the movies by Mosfilm corporation used to start with the picture of this statue. But if you go further inside the park you will reach a very calm area. A lake is there, forest and birds singing. Since the park occupies a large area I suggest you to rent a bicycle.

Sokolniki Park – A Place For A Hunt Or For Leisure?

The park got its name because of the royal falconry, which took place there in the past when there was a dense forest. (Sokol means a falcon.) In 2011 it was significantly transformed: updated lawns, landscaped ponds and picnic areas, restored summer cinema and theater, a large rose garden, sports grounds, bicycle paths and other things.

  • Sokolniki metro station, Sokolnichesky Val, 1, p. 1

From the main entrance along the alley you can walk to the Sokolniki circle, where 8 alleys form 9 sectors, in each of them you will find trees of the same breed.  The park is famous for its rosary, as well as flower decoration. On the territory of the park there are concert halls, a library, amusement zone, dances zone and many many other attractions. In winter the park has a skating rink (a free of charge one) and ski runs. During the warm season you can rent a bicycle.

Tsaritsino Park – A Different World Inside Moscow

Here you can walk for hours, admiring the most beautiful nature and magnificent architecture.

  • Open from 6AM to 12AM
  • Tsaritsyno metro station, Dolsky, 1

The most amazing part of the park is the lake with a light and musical fountain. Every evening the fountain starts the show. Lights and music combined make you feel like you are not in Moscow but in a fairy tale. The park is also well equipped for sports lovers and healthy lifestyle. There are volleyball and basketball courts, a tennis court, sports facilities for acrobatics, bodybuilding equipment.

What I personally like about this park is the atmosphere. This place is actually far from the city center but I love going there anyway. Whenever I go there I feel like I left Moscow with all its hectic lifestyle. It is the place where I relax, enjoy myself or a company of my friends and feel kind of different. By the way totally suggested for a date!

Kolomenskoye Park – Combination Of Reserve and Architecture

The Kolomenskoye park is actually a Museum-Reserve. It is a former residence of Russian tsars and one of the most scenic places in Moscow.

  • May to September – open from 8AM to 12AM, October to April – from 8AM to 9PM
  • Kolomenskoye metro station, Andropov Ave, 39

Alike with Tsaritsino park Kolomenskoye park has its own special atmosphere with all the architecture, trees, ponds and even a river bank. The park regularly hosts various folk festivals and different fairs. In summer time you can play with kites or rent a bicycle and ride around the huge area of the park.

I love the view that you get on the city from one of the hills near the river. I love the apple trees alleys and the beautiful churches. It is also a bit far from the city center but yet worth going there. One of my best friends even celebrated her wedding there.

Aptekarsky Garden or Botanical garden of the Moscow State University – The Best Botanical Garden in The World

Aptekar in Russian language means a pharmacist so basically it is a pharmacist’s garden. It was founded in 1706 by Peter The Great for growing medicinal plants for the royal family. But later they moved it from under the walls of the Kremlin to the current location.

  • Open from 10AM to 8PM
  • Prospect Mira metro station, Prospekt Mira, 26

In the botanical garden there are no attractions and noisy crowds of tourists. The area of the garden is not as big as any other park in Moscow. And the entrance is not free. But this exactly what makes this park one of the most comfortable in the city. In the Aptekarsky garden they grow thousands of different plants, flowers and trees. Some of the trees are more than 300 years old. They held different festivals there: flowers festivals, sand and ice sculptures expositions.

For me it is one of the most beautiful parks not only in Moscow but in the world. I have never seen so many different flowers and plants anywhere else. And trust me I am a real park lover. And what is more the staff really takes care about every single tree or plant there, some of the trees have names and stories. I love it there and I think the price is really worth what you get.

Victory Park – A Park That Makes Us Remember The War

The park is located on the Poklonnaya Hill and it has one of the world’s largest memorial complexes dedicated to the World War II. The park was opened for the 50th anniversary of the Victory on May 9, 1995. It is also one of the main venues in the city for holding a variety of mass events.

  • Park Pobedy metro station, Brothers Fonchenko, 7

On the main avenue of the park there are with 1418 fountains – exactly as long as the war lasted. Fountains make five water terraces, symbolizing five years of military operations. And in the center of the park there is the Museum of the Great Patriotic War. If you are interested in the history of the war do not miss it. The Poklonnaya Hill is a part of the park and from the hill you get one of the best views on the city of Moscow. And I could say this is the best place for watching the fireworks during the mass celebrations. But be aware it gets too crowded then. As in most of the other big parks you can rent a bicycle or rollers there.

Izmailovsky Park – A Mix of a Big Forest and Attractions

Izmaylovsky Park occupies a huge green territory, making up a large part of the Izmailovo district. The park consists of two parts: Izmaylovsky Park of Culture and Rest and the forest park of Izmailovo. First part is full of attractions and restaurants while the second one is like a real forest with pine trees, birch groves, beautiful clearings and ponds.

  • Izmaylovskaya, Shosse Entuziastov or Partizanskaya metro stations, Izmaylovsky Park

It is easy to spend there a whole day. A large landscaped area and a lot of various entertainments for children and adults will help you not to get bored. An observation wheel, a boat station, children’s playgrounds, a dance floor, sports grounds, a skate park – all this is only a small part of the possible leisure activities. In the park there are bike paths and a rental services.

I don’t go there often to be honest. But the park is very very close whenever to a souvenir market on Partizanskaya metro station. And whenever the weather is nice and I have enough of free time I stroll through the alleys of the park and enjoy the nature. So if you are going to the souvenir market too and you have enough free time then do go to the park too.
