Best Portable Pocket WiFi For Europe

Best Portable Pocket WiFi For Europe – It’s no secret that staying connected in Europe can be quite challenging. But, it is getting easier all the time. Everyone these days is traveling with a smartphone or tablet , and staying connected is a top priority.

There are basically four ways you can get WiFi when traveling in Europe. They include getting a European plan with your current provider, using free hotspots in hotels and coffee shops, buying a European prepaid sim card , or using a portable pocket WiFi for Europe.

This post will cover the best portable pocket WiFi options for Europe.

Best Portable Pocket Wi-Fi for Europe

With technological advances focusing more and more on downsizing and portability, we ourselves are quickly turning into the main carrier that gadgets are designed for rather than having them fit into a domestic or professional context.

I vividly recall reading about the portable electronic device in Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy described as “the standard repository for all knowledge and wisdom.”

Ironically, I was reading this on a tablet, and it made me recall all the other Sci-Fi classics I had read that were only restricted by the imagination of the author. Through all of these literary geniuses, it had become pretty clear that technology was always meant to automatize our daily lives and make everything more efficient as well as remain interconnected.

The most important part of this is still our need to be constantly connected to the internet and finding the cheapest and most efficient way to do so. For travelers, this can be extra challenging, especially when traveling between different countries where the rules and costs might fluctuate quite a bit.

If you will soon travel to Europe and it is very important to you that you remain available online, then this is the article for you!

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on [relevant Amazon Site(s), as applicable] at the time of purchase will apply to the purchase of this product.

What is a portable WiFi device, and how does it work?

In short, portable WiFi is simply carrying a tiny router in your pocket . It allows you to connect your electronic devices to a WiFi network much as you would do at home.

The tiny device that can fit into your palm is all you will ever need without having to fiddle with additional software installations or cables.

With a range of up to 15 meters, you will remain connected for as long as your device is within that range and can also be shared with up to 10 people at the same time.

In order to receive portable WiFi, you will need to purchase a SIM card and data plan since the device turns your 4G network into a WiFi hotspot.

So, it is a general misconception that it is simply a tiny router with which you can channel other WiFi signals.

What makes portable WiFi unique?

Having a router in your pocket also means that you can be connected to the net all the time, even in places where you will have no connection otherwise. So, in essence, portable WiFi can be indispensable for business travelers who need to benefit from a safe, unlimited, and stable connection at all times for their job.

But even if you are just a tourist and find yourself in a low or no bar area but would love to research some extra information about the place you are visiting or let your loved ones know you are alright, portable WiFi can provide you with that.

We would also highly recommend this option for those traveling in groups . We mentioned before that you could share the connection with up to 10 people, depending on the plan you select. This means that you can technically purchase one plan only and then share the benefits with everyone else in the group.

If you are smart, you can even divide the price amongst everyone in the group and end up with the cheapest possible option.

Related: Can You Use a Mobile Hotspot On a Plane?

Tip : If you are traveling in a group and intend to share the connection, remember that sharing can affect the internet speed. So, take care if you are a group of heavy users, more than 6 connections are not recommended.

Social media usage, e-mail, and internet research will be just fine in this context, but if some members of the group also intend to stream or game a lot, you may want to consider the best solution before you leave.

Portable WiFi or local SIM with a data plan?

Perhaps you are asking yourself this question since 2017 marked the year that Europe abolished roaming charges. This law is relatively new and does not come without restrictions, so informing yourself is key.

As the prices listed below will show, portable WiFi is not exactly cheap, but for the right kind of user the investment can very well be worth it. The previously mentioned abolishment of roaming charges has taken effect with some providers.

This means that certain carriers such as Orange and Vodafone have cooked up some pretty good deals for travelers with no additional roaming charges for between 30 and 50 countries.

But this would again depend on what you are looking for and how long you plan on staying abroad. If you were to select a data plan with a local carrier with an unlimited plan, which is really not that easy to find, your monthly cost would not be that much different than portable WiFi.

So, before you make a choice, make sure you prioritize exactly what you want and what you don’t so you avoid paying for services you don’t necessarily need.

Local SIM is better for:

  • Those who won’t need unlimited internet and will remain in densely populated areas with decent reception at all times
  • Those who won’t travel for a long time and can take advantage of deals offered by providers for a two week rather than a monthly plan
  • Those who won’t only need the internet but also want to use minutes and texts
  • Tip : the law abolishing roaming charges is relatively new, and most providers have a list for which countries no extra costs will be charged. So make sure you select a carrier that covers all the countries you want to visit

Portable WiFi is better for:

  • Those who need a reliable internet connection much more than free minutes or texting
  • Those who will move around quite a bit and are likely to cover remote areas in their trip
  • Those who need unlimited internet and need a stable connection at all times
  • Those traveling in a group or with a family and can take advantage of the sharing option to save a lot of money

Best Unlimited Portable WiFi Options for Europe

Purchasing a SIM card and data plan can be beneficial for those who would travel to Europe on a regular base. If not, however, we would recommend that you consider renting your portable WiFi .

The principle is rather similar to that of a prepaid SIM card. It saves you the trouble of having to sign a contract, allows you to charge as needed and only binds you to the carrier for the amount of time you are abroad.

Below you can find an overview of 5 carriers offering some of the best rates and features for use in over 100 countries or more . This is a great option if you plan on backpacking through Europe or want to visit more than one country without the hassle of switching carriers.

If you only want to travel to one specific country , you will notice that some carriers offer services in a large collection of European countries separately while others only provide portable WiFi with 2 options; one country in specific and Europe.

Travel WiFi , for example, caters specifically to those traveling to France or Europe in general. Similarly, Traveler’s WiFi has packages aimed at Switzerland and global users.

iVideo Pocket WiFi , in turn, focuses on Europe in general and those requiring services globally. TEP Wireless and WebSpot are the only ones that can be used for Europe and many different countries separately and you will get a deal at around $2 per day cheaper than the European package.

If you have a strong focus on getting the cheapest deal, make sure you are smart about price comparison. You will notice that some carriers offering European options will still be cheaper than one specific country selected on another carrier.

But before you decide, do a quick internet search to see if there are carriers native to the country you plan on visiting that only offer deals there. For some countries, they can be far less economical than the options offered above, but for others, they can be very surprising. For example, check out this amazing deal in Italy!

Alternative pocket wifi options.

In addition to the best pocket WiFi services for Europe we have mentioned above, there are a couple of alternatives you can also choose. Below, you will find two of our honorable mentions.

This offers unlimited data plans for Europe at the cost of €6.50 per day. There are 43 different European countries included in this plan as well. It has been reported by several users that this plan offers a very good connection and is one of the best and more affordable prices for unlimited internet plans in Europe. They have also reported that it works with three to five mobile devices and offers 4G support.

On the other hand, one of the bigger drawbacks to this plan is that it is not the best option for those who are going to need a pocket WiFi device for less than four days. This service only offers plan options for four or more days.

This service is easy to use, gives you access to a more secure and private connection, and you can save up to 95% when compared with the rates of other operators.

Pocket WiFi Amsterdam

This WiFi service offers 4G support and covers 33 different countries. You can connect up to five devices simultaneously with six to eight hours of continuous use and battery life. This plan starts at €8.50 per day, which is higher than some other carriers but still considered affordable.

For this rate, you must rent the device for 7 days or longer. However, you will have unlimited internet access within the borders of the Netherlands. So, if this is the area you will be visiting while in Europe, then it is a great option for you to consider.

Many users reported that the long battery life, the coverage, and the delivery service was exceptional. They also find that the rates are more than affordable for what you are getting. You will also have access to friendly customer service, which is helpful in the event you have any questions or concerns that need to be addressed.

A few drawbacks users reported included a 10 GB data cap and its limited service area. This WiFi service can’t be used outside of the Netherlands. They also reported that it might not be as cost-effective as some other available options.

Can pocket WiFi be used overseas?

Yes, you can use pocket WiFi overseas. Buy a good international portable WiFi and you’ll find it is an asset anywhere you travel around the globe. Whether you have to attend a Zoom call with loved ones or share files with a work colleague, you’ll find a lot of good uses for a pocket WiFi overseas.

International Pocket WiFi – The Perfect Travel Wifi for Europe and Beyond

Sponsored post

Finding WiFi when you are traveling can be frustrating. The WiFi in hotels and vacation rental is often less than ideal. Roaming charges can put a serious dent in your vacation budget and hunting down free WiFi is not fun either.

Changing your sim card is an option, but you have to figure that out for each country and you will have a different phone number each time (which makes it hard for your family and friends to reach you in case of emergency).

But there is a solution: International Pocket WiFi . Those devices are so helpful when you travel overseas. You can share internet access across multiple devices, you can keep your phone number and it is a portable WiFi hotspot.

Who Needs an International Pocket WiFi?

  • Couples & Families: If you travel with groups of up to 5 people, who want to share access to WiFi and save money, pocket WiFi is for you. Instead of each traveler getting a separate plan for their cellphone (cost: ~$10/day), you can share the cost with up to 5 people (cost: starting at ~$5/day).
  • Digital Nomads:  If you need reliable access to fast Internet, to work on client contracts, your blog or business, the international pocket WiFi makes your life much easier.
  • Business Travelers:  To maximize your efficiency during your business trip, you need reliable and fast internet. You also need to keep your number, so you can be reached by your business partners, colleagues, and clients, so changing.

Advantages of a Portable WiFi

  • Easy, one-time setup
  • Can be shared by up to 5 devices
  • You can keep your phone number
  • Fast internet
  • Small and portable
  • Can be used in 130 countries and includes country bundles (Europe multi-country plan)

Vision Global WiFi Review

I recently had the chance to try out Vision Global WiFi’s pocket WiFi service on a quick trip to Mexico as well as on a 3 Continents Cruise in the Eastern Mediterranean .

I was able to test the device in Mexico, Germany, Greece, Egypt, Israel, Palestine, Cyprus, and Turkey and had no trouble connecting at any of the destinations and download/upload speeds were very fast.

The only time I could not connect was when I was too far from shore to pick up any cell coverage. However, the device picked up cell reception much faster than my husband’s Pixel 4 and my iPhone 8+. As we were sailing close to shore most of the time, I was able to connect on most days well before getting to the port. But keep in mind, that this device has no satellite connection, so once you are not in reach of a cell tower signal, you won’t be able to connect on a cruise.

Usually, I just use my T-Mobile international plan, but I often need to get a little bit of work done and need fast and reliable internet. My international roaming plan limits my data to 256kbs in some countries – too slow to backup photos to the cloud, watch videos, and even upload photos to Instagram and Facebook . So I decided to try Vision Global WiFi.

Man with Phone in front of Yellow background

Mexico was my first time to use a hotspot device to get WiFi abroad and to be honest, I always thought it wasn’t worth the hassle. But it was so easy and convenient and did exactly what I needed it to do – give me fast, reliable internet while traveling. It is perfect for business travelers, digital nomads, or couples/families who want to connect multiple devices for a good price. So when I had the opportunity to try it again on my cruise in the Mediterranean, I was very excited.

I put this device through a tough test during our day in Egypt. We had a 3.5 hour bus ride back through the desert to the ship and I shared the Pocket WiFi with 5 journalists in our group. Each journalist was not only able to connect and check emails, but also backup their photos during that time. They were so grateful (as were we) to know that our bucket list pictures from that day were backed up to the cloud and safe and that we could get some work done during our downtime.

The difference was like night and day, going from 256kbs to 3G download speeds. During this 3.5 hour bus ride, we managed to upload over 6GB of data – spread up over 5 devices.

IMPORTANT: This device provides internet, but no cellphone coverage. That means you can call using VoIP or other internet-based calling services like Skype, FaceTime, WhatsApp, etc. Regular phone calling can incur additional charges, depending on your phone plan.

How does Vision Global WiFi’s Travel WiFi work?

It is super simple. You go to their website Vision Global WiFi a minimum 4 days before your trip and select the country/countries and daily high-speed data volume, enter your dates and it gives you the price. If that works for you, you can book the device, enter your payment details and shipping info or pickup location. If you are traveling within 4 days, you can always call and see if they can arrange WiFi for you.

If you choose to get the device shipped, you will receive it in the mail and you are ready to go. You can also pick it up at the airport at some select locations, such as Los Angeles (LAX and Torrance), and major airports in Japan.

When you are at your destination, you just turn the device on and connect. Read how easy it is to connect below.

After your trip, you either drop it off at the airport or ship it back in the provided prepaid envelope.

Vision Global WiFi Cost

The cost for Vision Global WiFi is very affordable and competitive. For example, if you plan to visit multiple countries in Europe, they offer Unlimited 4G Max (with unlimited high-speed data connection) only $15.90 per day. They also have other plans; Unlimited 4G Basic (with 500MB high-speed data connection) and Unlimited 4G Advanced (with 1GB high-speed data connection). However, you can always call customer support to get the best deal.

Vision Global WiFi also offers a long-term rental discount, so this makes it even more attractive for slow travelers and digital nomads.

You also have to pay shipping or a pick-up fee, if you choose to pick it up at the airport. You can share internet access with up to 5 devices simultaneously, though that might impact the speed a little. Please check the website for the latest prices!

And the best news: Click the link below and get 20% discount!

Vision Global WiFi’s Travel Package

So, what is included in the package? When I got the package from Vision Global WiFi, I was surprised how small it was. The package includes a little pouch, which holds the pocket WiFi device (a tiny bit bigger than an iPhone 6s) and a charging cable (US-style plug, so remember to bring your adaptor or you can rent the international adaptor plug for only $1/day). It also includes a detailed manual that explains exactly how to use the device and connect to it.

How to set up Vision Global WiFi

Setting up and connecting to Vision Global WiFi is pretty foolproof. All you have to do is turn on the pocket WiFi device, go to the WiFi settings on your phone, connect to the Vision Global WiFi network and enter the password. Super simple. It also stays connected, so you don’t have to worry to accidentally get hit by roaming charges.

Pro Tip: Charge your Vision Global WiFi’s portable WiFi device before you leave, so you can connect as soon as you arrive. Then you can check for transportation, access maps, do research, etc. as soon as you hit the ground.

What we liked about Vision Global WiFi pocket WiFi

  • Super easy to connect and stays connected
  • Very decent internet speeds (we watched YouTube videos on two devices simultaneously, while my husband updated his apps and had no buffer issues)
  • Small and compact
  • Low cost, especially when you share the access with multiple people

What we didn’t like about Vision Global WiFi

Actually, there wasn’t much I didn’t like about the Vision Global WiFi’s pocket WiFi. I think the only thing that irked me a bit is the shipping costs, especially for shorter trips ($8/each way). But even with that factored in, it is so much cheaper than most international cell phone plans (most charge $10/day/device).

Vision Global WiFi – Final Verdict

I think Vision Global WiFi is the perfect solution to get fast, reliable and cheap internet while traveling abroad. It is a great pocket WiFi choice if you need portable WiFi to work while traveling or have multiple people with multiple devices who need to connect.

It is just so nice to know that you can rely on this little device to connect whenever, wherever you want. I already recommended it to my mother-in-law who travels frequently and I know she will love it because it is so easy to connect.

And remember: Vision Global WiFi will give you a 20% discount if you order through the links on this website! Reserve now!

Best Pocket Wifi for Europe (From Experience)

August 2021 update: i used to recommend skyroam as the best pocket wifi for europe but i last traveled extensively with tep travelwifi. since it’s been a long time since i used skyroam, i recommend travelwifi. read about it here..

In March 2017, I went to Ireland, Germany, Spain, France and Italy. I didn’t want to deal with the expensive cost of extra data and minutes on my current phone plan nor get a different SIM card for each country I went to. I wanted something seamless and simple so I partnered up with Hip Pocket Wifi to put their Europe pocket wifi device to the test.

Recently though, my travel blogging friends, Travel Pocket s, turned me onto  Skyroam . What interested me about Skyroam is that it worked beyond Europe, and you could even permanently buy their device, which makes data usage cheaper in the long run.

See the differences between Hip Pocket Wifi and Skyroam to see which is the best pocket wifi for Europe.

All costs and offerings listed are as of the date of this post and are subject to change.

August 2021 Update: I last traveled extensively with TEP TravelWifi. Since it’s been a long time since I used Skyroam, I recommend TravelWifi. Read about it here.

Pocket wifi delivery costs to your home or hotel.

Both Hip Pocket and Skyroam will deliver their pocket wifi rental to your home or hotel. However, Skyroam does not deliver the pocket rental in Europe. This means you’ll have to get the Skyroam delivered to your house in the US, but this only matters if you intended on getting your wifi rental AFTER you landed in Europe to possibly save a day on data.

I personally think getting the wifi rental BEFORE you go to the airport and leave the country is smarter so that you can test out the device and have wifi on hand when you arrive at your destination for directions to your Airbnb or hotel.

For Hip Pocket, to get the device mailed to you in the US before your trip and then returning it from any European country at the end of your trip costs €29 (20 for shipping to outside Europe and 9 for shipping it back from anywhere in Europe).

You can completely avoid this cost if you have it delivered to your hotel in Europe and ship it back from France, but that means a) you’ll have to incur international data charges looking up directions from the airport to your hotel or b)  you’ll be at the mercy of pre-printed out directions.

Winner in Delivery Costs: The Europe pocket wifi that wins this category for delivery costs keeping in mind the convenience of having data as soon as you arrive in a new country is Skyroam.

The only way that Hip Pocket’s delivery cost will be the same cost or cheaper is if you get it shipped to your hotel in Europe, then return it from France (free) or another country in Europe (€9).

– Get 10% off your Skyroam rental with code: LTDXSKYROAM – They sometimes have a 15% off code if you sign up for their mailing list too!

Cost of Daily Wifi

Both Hip Pocket and Skyroam’s pricing changes depending on a few things, but let’s start with the basics for daily rates:

  • Hip Pocket’s rate for 1GB of data a day starts at €9/day (3 to 5 days) and decreases to €6,90/day (14+ days).
  • Hip Pocket’s rate for unlimited data daily starts at €11,90/day (3 to 5 days) and decreases to €8,90/day (14+ days).
  • Skyroam’s rate for unlimited data daily stays consistent at $9.95 if you rent their device or $9 if you own their device.

If you only need 1GB of data daily, then Hip Pocket is comparable on a short trip and cheaper the longer the stay. On the unlimited plan, Skyroam is cheaper on a short trip or comparable on a long trip.

Winner of daily rates: It depends on how long your trip is, but since they’re comparable and most likely you wouldn’t go to Europe just for 3 – 5 days, Skyroam seems to be a safer bet if you prefer to get your device sent to your home in US before your trip.

Cost of Monthly Wifi

Both companies offer monthly wifi, but Skyroam only offers it if you buy their device, which is $149.99. The benefit of owning their device is simply the convenience of having it. If you travel often, then this may be worth it so you don’t have to deal with the hassle and cost of shipping it back and forth and since you only pay for the days you use.

With this device, the monthly unlimited global wifi rate is $99 per month or for only 1GB of data for the month, it’s $9 for the month.

If you only need 1GB of data for the whole month, then you can save $140 in the first month of owning a Skyroam ($9.95 day rental price X 30 days = $298.50 – $9 Skyroam Go Data – $149 Skyroam device).

If you need the unlimited data for the whole month, you would still save $49.50 ($298.50 – $99 unlimited wifi plan – $149 Skyroam device).

Hip Pocket vs. Skyroam Monthly Cost Comparison

Hip Pocket has two different monthly packages : 20GB and 50GB size. It’s not so easy to compare the Hip Pocket to Skyroam because of varying data packages and time frames.

Here’s a table for you to decide which company is better for you long-term. Keep in mind that Hip Pocket is in Euros whereas Skyroam is in USD. Also, the Skyroam device can be used in other countries outside of Europe.

Number of Devices That Can Connect

pocket wifi for europe trip

What really brings down the prices of these Europe pocket wifi rentals is if you and a friend split the cost of them because you can have multiple devices on one device! The Hip Pocket Wifi can have up to 10 devices connected at once while the Skyroam can have up to five devices.

If you are a big family or group traveling together and are all using one device, then Hip Pocket wins here,  but this may not be a big issue for most.

Overall, we think that Skyroam is the way to go but Hip Pocket is also good too depending on how long your trip is. Nonetheless, we hope this post helped you make an informed decision about the best pocket wifi in Europe!

Thanks for stopping by! xo.

Europe

One of the biggest concerns when traveling to another country is how you will maintain your internet connectivity. However, many options exist to get a stable connection during your trip. Among these alternatives, you will find the Pocket WiFi . So if you are traveling soon to Europe , we will be talking about the best ones for this Continent.

In addition, we will tell you about alternatives besides the Pocket WiFi. Which could be cheaper and easier to acquire. So that way, you have different options to choose from and stay connected at all times during your trip to Europe.

eSIM for Europe

>> The best alternative to staying connected in the continent is a Europe eSIM with unlimited data << Get 5% OFF. Code: MYESIMNOW5

What is Pocket WiFi?

Throughout this article, we will be talking a lot about Pocket WiFi as an alternative to stay connected during your travels. However, it is essential that you first know what it is.

It is a portable wireless device that works like a modem. Allowing other devices, such as cell phones and laptops, to connect to the internet through a mobile telephone network.

Currently, many companies offer this type of service in different countries. In most cases, they will provide you with Pocket WiFi for as long as you need. However, you should note that you will have to be very careful with the device as you will have to return it at the end of the rental period.

How much does Pocket WiFi for Europe cost?

One of the most important things you should know before renting a Pocket WiFi for Europe is the costs you will have when renting it. Usually, renting this type of device is a bit high since you will have to pay for rental, delivery, and in many cases, extra accessories and insurance in case of theft or loss.

We recommend that you check each of the things that the company you want to rent your Pocket WiFi will charge you for. So below, we will be talking in much more detail about the costs of the different companies that offer these Pocket WiFi for Europe.

Cello Mobile

First, we will tell you about a company based in the United States, which is Cello Mobile. This is an excellent option for those people who will be traveling from the USA to Europe so that delivery is more economical. However, you can rent a Pocket WiFi with Cello Mobile from anywhere worldwide.

Currently, this company offers unlimited primary data plans. In addition, along with the device, they offer different accessories. Such as a charger, adapters, and even a pack to carry with you.

However, renting a Pocket WiFi for a European country from Cello Mobile can be pretty expensive. For a 7-day rental, you will be charged $349.99 for the first week. A relatively high price compared to other options. Also, the delivery service for countries outside the United States, Mexico, or Canada, is 75 dollars.

The last thing to say about the company is the price paid for penalties . In the event of losing the device, $75 must be paid to the company . Which is a somewhat high, though affordable, cost.

Travel WiFi

On the other hand, we have Travel WiFi, a company from Europe, specifically Spain . So it is a great advantage because if you are traveling to Europe, they can send you to your location the pocket wifi that you rent at the beginning of your trip.

With Travel WiFi, you can rent Pocket WiFi for as long as you need. The price will vary depending on your destination. In this case, for Europe, you can rent one of these devices for $55 . With this, you will have 1GB of data daily for seven days. However, if you need more data, you can rent 5GB for $62.65. As well as 10GB for $83.65 for seven days total.

When you rent your Pocket WiFi, it will come with the Portable Hotspot Device, a lithium Battery, TravelWifi Secure , a charger, and a USB wire. Also note that if you need delivery to your location, you must pay between $3 to $29 , depending on where you are located.

Lastly, please note that if the Pocket WiFi is lost or stolen, you must pay a penalty fee ranging from $149 to $199 . The final price will vary depending on whether the device has extra accessories.

My Webspot

This is a company from a European country, specifically France , that offers Pocket WiFi rental services for different places worldwide. If you want to travel across Europe and stay connected to the internet, you can do so with My Webspot’s Pocket WiFi.

Renting one of their devices for a week will cost you $83.85 for Europe . A slightly higher price from the above-mentioned company. However, the advantage of My Webspot is that you can have a free delivery, which arrives two days before the start of your trip. However, if you want an express delivery, you must pay between 6 to 9 dollars.

On the other hand, something you should take into account is that this company works with a deposit for the device. This means that if you do not return the device, you will be charged around $190. However, if you purchase insurance for your device, this charge will be less, with a total of $95.

Finally, as for payment methods, with My Webspot, you can pay with credit cards, PayPal and Stripe.

Travelers WiFi

As the last option to rent your Pocket WiFi, we will discuss Travelers Wifi . This Swiss-based company obviously offers its Pocket Wi-Fi service in European countries.

Renting a Pocket WiFi available for Europe will cost you around $81 a week . However, if you travel only to Switzerland, it will cost $70. As for delivery of the device, this could range from $10 to around $22, depending on the distance it will be delivered.

As with most companies, Travelers WiFi also has a penalty amount for those who do not return the rented device. So, if your Pocket WiFi is lost or stolen during your trip, you will have to pay around $150 to the company.

Pocket Wifi alternatives

We know that many people may not like the idea of renting a Pocket WiFi for their travels. First of all, because it can be pretty expensive, however, it can also be a bit inconvenient for people, since they will always have to keep the device close and charged to stay connected to the internet.

That is why we will talk about some alternatives with which you can also have an internet connection on your trip to Europe. So that you can compare prices, usage, and connectivity and choose the one that best suits your needs.

holafly europe esim custom days

The first alternative we will talk about is the eSIM . This is a product that has been gaining more and more fame among travelers due to the ease with which it can be acquired and activated.

This product is basically a digital SIM card. Many of the latest generation mobile phones come with the eSIM already embedded in the phones, and you will only have to purchase it in a virtual store and proceed to activate it with a QR code. One online store that we would like to recommend is Holafly , which specializes in selling these eSIMs for many parts of the world.

Holafly’s eSIM for Europe travel will allow unlimited data for a different amount of days, and you will have to pay only between $6 and $139, depending on the plan you choose. With this eSIM, you will be connected to the best networks on the continent .

Plus, you won’t have to worry about delivery costs since everything is done virtually. It is important to mention that a portion of your plan could be used to share data with other devices, up to 500 MB per day for this service.

You may also be interested in other packages, such as the eSIM plan for Spain that is compatible with iPhone and Android devices , or Holafly’s eSIM compatible with iPhones in France .

Europe Prepaid SIM Card

On the other hand, if you don’t have an eSIM-compatible cell phone, don’t worry. Prepaid SIM cards are a similar alternative. Many travelers still use this type of product, as they tend to be a fairly inexpensive and easy-to-acquire option.

These regional solutions can be purchased from international online stores , you should always confirm in which countries they offer coverage. Locally many EU countries have agreements and you can use roaming for free or at low rates. This depends on the operator so you will have to confirm once you arrive in your destination country.

Free International Wifi

Finally, an alternative that you can enjoy in case of emergency, or if you do not have a very high budget to stay connected to the internet, is the free wifi . In the different countries of Europe, you are very likely to find free wifi points, either in restaurants, bookstores, shopping malls, or even on trains.

However, remember that this alternative can be somewhat unstable or unsafe, and you need to have a safe connection while traveling , as you will have to be at the location of the wifi hotspot to stay connected. In addition, you will be connected to free networks, where many people can connect.

Which is better?

To say which is the best option of all the alternatives, it is necessary to compare their prices, coverage and also the benefits they will bring you during your trip. That is why after having talked about each of the alternatives, we can say that in our opinion, eSIM cards are the best options.

So if you would like to purchase one of these services, remember that you can do it through the Holafly online store. With them, you will have a lot of benefits, and they will also offer you customer service 24 hours a day.

Have a portable wifi for travel is the best way to have unlimited internet in Europe.

After 3 years of nomadic life and visiting over 30 European countries there is one thing we’ve learned: it’s not easy to find good and free wifi in Europe. Or better saying, it wasn’t! I’m embarrassed to tell you that it took us a while to finally have our own international pocket wifi, but now that we have it life is so much easier.

I’m sure you have already snapped a great photo and had to wait to be back at the hotel to upload it on Instagram. Or even worse, you find yourself lost in a new city without any internet access to check Google Maps … That’s sucks!

This year we decided to get an international pocket wifi for travel and never thought a tiny device could impact our lives so much, but it does. No more roaming fees, changing SIM cards all the time, looking for free wifi in cafes and shopping malls. No more slow and annoying connections in hotels and hostels. Now we have unlimited wifi connection on the palm of our hands. With only one password I magically had access to internet in Europe and almost everywhere around the world.

Let’s go to the facts, because having a reliable  portable wifi for travel  is essential for your social media stuff and also for your travel planning and survival. If you are not familiar with portable wifi devices or if you are not sure why you should have an international pocket wifi, keep reading. I will try my best to explain the tech stuff in an easy way.

What is an unlimited portable wifi device or pocket hotspot?

It doesn’t matter if you call it a portable wifi device, pocket wifi international, pocket hotspot, portable hotspot, M iFi rental Europe … it all means the same: wifi on the go! It’s a tiny gadget that works similarly to your internet router from home. It creates a wireless hotspot to which you can connect your phone, tablet, or computer. It’s your personal and portable internet, a hotspot device that gives you the freedom to connect anywhere and anytime you want. For as long as the battery lasts, of course.

Also read:   Guide to keep your laptop safe while traveling   Advantages and disadvantages of traveling with a tablet !

It’s portable and it’s tiny. Not all international pocket wifi devices are the same, but the Teppy Wireless portable wifi that we have is smaller than my hand. It’s smaller than Rob’s iPhone and it fits in my purse so I can have unlimited wifi on the go even when partying.

With a Tep Wireless pocket wifi in Europe you can have internet in over 100 countries.

How does pocket wifi work? How does Teppy Wireless work?

In a blink of an eye Teppy can figure out which country you are in and choose the best network for you. You do nothing but turn the portable wifi device on and the magic happens. Ok, it might take a few minutes depending on where you are, but the good thing is that you don’t need to worry about settings, SIM cards, anything… it does everything automatically.

When I read the FAQs on Teppy website I thought it was too good to be true. As a girl that doesn’t like tech stuff, I was on a mission to try this portable wifi for travel that promised easy and fast connection. We received our Teppy device while traveling in Portugal , so we first used it as a wifi hotspot rental in Europe.

To my surprise, Teppy travel wifi was able to find signal and delivery good internet connection even in remote beaches where Rob’s SIM card wasn’t working. We tried it in Lisbon as well and it was flawless.

While in Portugal, we got invited for a last-minute cycling trip to Taiwan and we decided to use our Teppy pocket wifi there. It would be the ultimate challenge, to try Teppy international wifi hotspot  in Taiwan’s countryside while cycling.

The good news is that it worked perfectly and we were able to share our internet connection with the other cyclists. We had the same excellent experience using our  pocket wifi in Europe  and in Taiwan .

Why do you need international pocket wifi?

You need a good internet connection while traveling not only for social stuff. Internet is essential for communication, booking  accommodation , getting around, calling an Uber, book activities and restaurants, checking the weather forecast, telling your mom that you are alive, and also posting your killer photo on Instagram.

With a portable wifi hotspot rental you have the freedom to connect to internet anywhere and anytime you want. In Europe and worldwide.

Although an internet connection is vital for travelers, hotels, hostels, and airports are getting annoyed over offering it for free to the guests. So don’t be surprised when booking your hostel or hotel in Europe if they give you the option of paying for wifi services, or in some cases, the wifi is free but only at the reception and lobby.

Some European cities do offer free wifi in tourist areas but for many of them you need a local number to be able to sign in. Again, not useful and not traveler friendly. If you decide to buy a local SIM card to have internet during your trip, you will find that the language barrier can be a real problem to buy the correct SIM card and choose the data plan.

Or you can be stuck during all the settings and the endless messages that arrive on your phone in a local language that you can’t even guess what they are talking about. Summing up, getting wifi in Europe can be a daunting task.

Teppy Wireless hotspot is ready to use, once you get it you only need to charge it, turn it on and start using the internet. No settings, no messages, no different language. A straightforward service that you need while traveling.

Tep Wireless international pocket wifi is so small that can fit in any bag or pocket.

Why did we choose Teppy Wireless international wifi hotspot?

We knew that we’d be using our international portable hotspot for travel and work. That’s why when we were looking for the best portable wifi device we decided to buy an international hotspot device instead of going for a Europe wifi rental only.

To have a bigger picture of the market, we searched for the best pocket wifi in Europe, Asia, South America and globally. Then we could see which brands have the best coverage and reviews on the destinations we travel more often. W e searched for the best option that could fit in our pocket [size and cost wise], that Rob and I could use at the same time, that has worldwide coverage with unlimited internet connection and that we could not only rent but buy it.

Teppy portable wifi device fulfilled all our requirements and offered more. Here are 10 reasons why you should get a Teppy wifi hotspot Europe or global:

1st – Teppy price

The rates for day passes are fair and you can choose if you want internet just in Europe, in a specific country or global. If you choose to get Teppy as a  portable wifi rental  you only pay for daily passes. Compared to some countries in Europe a 10 days Teppy pocket wifi rental is cheaper than buying a SIM card + data plan in a country. And I’m not even adding the extra roaming fees you will have to pay if you decide to use the same number and data plan in another European country. If you decide to buy the Teppy wireless hotspot than you pay for the device plus the daily passes.

2nd – Unlimited Internet connection

When you activate your day pass you get unlimited internet connection for that day. You can buy as many day passes as you want and use them whenever you want, it doesn’t need to be consecutively. If you use more than 1GB of data in a day the connection speed will be slowed to 512kbs, and get back to normal the next day you use it.

3rd – Teppy works in over 100 countries worldwide

When renting your Teppy pocket wifi you can choose the region you wish to use it in, as Europe, South America, Oceania, per country or you can get the global device. It’s your choice.

4th – Teppy is easy to use

As I said before, no settings, no changing SIM cards, nothing… Switch your Teppy on and it will show on the screen the wifi name and the password. Type it on your phone or computer and you have your wifi on the go!

5th – Up to 5 devices can connect to your Teppy

This is brilliant for any couple, group of friends or family… in one portable hotspot you can connect up to 5 devices [phone, computer, tablet] at no extra cost. If you are traveling with friends you can split the costs of the Teppy rental, have unlimited internet in Europe and save money.

6th – Teppy is the best portable wifi device for travelers

Teppy Wireless is small, it fits in any bag, purse, hand luggage. The international pocket wifi weighs only 134g and its dimensions are 10cm x 5.85 cm x 1.5 cm. Tiny, tiny! The Teppy hotspot will be delivered at your home address up to 3 days after you rent it or buy it online. Or you can schedule the delivery to your travel destination. How convenient! If you decided to stay longer you can extend your rental period by contacting Teppy’s customer service. Easy peasy!

The best part is you can have a portable wifi for travel and get unlimited internet connection in Europe, even at the beach.

7th – It’s a pocket wifi 4G connection on demand

For an extra fee you can have 4G connection in Europe and worldwide. Some people might find this option essential, to be honest, we had the normal 3G connection during our travels in Portugal and Taiwan and it worked just fine!

8th – With Teppy you can make calls and send SMS messages

Download the Teppy App, top-up credits and start calling and messaging. I know most people communicate through Social Media and email but if you need to make a call, Teppy has you covered. You pay for what you want to use, nothing more.

9th – Teppy is easy to return

When the trip is over there will be no fuss to return your Teppy hotspot. If you are in London you can return the portable wifi at the London Heathrow Airport. Travelers who live in the UK or USA you can use a pre-paid envelope to send your device back to Teppy Wireless. If none of these options suit you, Teppy can help you arrange the FedEx pick up service at your place.

10th – If you fall in love with your pocket wifi you can buy it

After renting the Teppy Wireless pocket wifi you can buy it. But before splashing your cash think about your traveling style. Are you a frequent traveler? Are you a digital nomad? If you said yes, then buying a Teppy Wireless pocket hotspot might be a good option for you. But if you travel just once in a while, you can rent it when you need it! You spend less and it will be one less gadget sitting in your drawer.

Now you know everything about Teppy Wireless portable wifi, how it works and how you can get your own international pocket wifi. There are many portable wifi companies in the market, so before you buy your Teppy or any other pocket wifi device read carefully the instructions and search for reviews like this one. You are investing money, time and choosing a gadget that will make your trip stress-free, so it needs to work well.

Love this Tep Wireless review?! So Pin it for later!!

Stay connected in Europe and around the world. How to have your own international pocket wifi and have access to unlimited internet while traveling. All you need to know to rent and use a portable wifi on your next trip.

4 thoughts on “Is this the Best Pocket Wifi in Europe? We think so.”

I love this idea Natalie an Robson. Eventually I have to cave and get one because the SIM situation and the possible free WiFi connection situation and the overall lack of reliable connections on the road makes Teppy a steal. Smart financial investment. Especially for travel bloggers like us because we build our businesses on the road. Thanks for the share guys.

Hi Ryan, It was a good choice indeed. Tried in Europe and Asia and worked like a charm! Cheers,

I used such pocket wifi service on my trips from Teppy and Rent-connect. They were really comfortable for me. To find visiting places, my hostel and uploading photo was really easy.

Hi Damian, The pocket wifi service is a great way to stay connected! Cheers,

Currently, when you choose a particular company to get a Pocket WiFi, you must evaluate the best option for you. So let’s take a look at the Pocket Wi-Fi options there are to use your cell phone in Europe .

pocket WiFi Europe

Travelers WiFi

Travelers WiFi is a Swiss-based company that obviously offers its Pocket Wi-Fi service in Switzerland. However, you can get a Pocket WiFi with them and it will work for all European countries.

This company has two types of tariffs depending on where people are going. In the case of going to Switzerland, the rate will be USD 69,74 for the whole week. While for the rest of Europe, the rate increases to USD 73,40 no matter where the person is going.

Now, maybe you’ll need shipping to get your Pocket WiFi . This is something that doesn’t really change much in terms of prices. If we detail each price, we will see that the rates will range from $10 up to $21.10 for distant distances. It all depends on where the equipment is being shipped to, and the company also offers a pickup service in some countries, reducing the price.

The good thing is that no matter where people are from or whx|ere they are going , there are several payment methods available to people.

Another essential thing to know about Travelers WiFi is that there’s a penalty in case of a Pocket WiFi loss . People who lose a piece of equipment from the company will have to pay 155 USD for its replacement. And it could be more if it has been rented with additional accessories.

Hippocket WiFi

Hippocket WiFi is a company that handles a variety of rates as they not only provide services for France but for the rest of Europe. However, the price changes a bit. For France, the rate starts at around 45.67 USD per week, while for the rest of Europe , the rental can exceed 68.51 USD per week. You can choose between 1Gb/Day or unlimited data plans.

We all know that France is one of Europe’s top tourist destinations. The good thing is that we can find a good company to have portable WiFi in this country. However, it can also be helpful for other European countries.

Moving on to shipping, this is something that is also a bit varied. People can opt for free shipping which takes about three days to arrive. Or they can pay between $11.43 to $22.87 , but this will depend on where the equipment needs to be shipped to.

The good thing about it is that the company has a variety of payment methods available. It will vary depending on where the rental is made from. But, with a credit card, you have it all sorted.

Let’s talk about penalties. Like any company, Hippocket WiFi will penalize you if you lose their equipment. The compensation is $154,35 to $171,50, depending on whether or not it was lost with additional accessories.

Travel WiFi

Now let’s talk about this company named Travel WiFi. It is a company from Spain that offers portable WiFi services in Europe with a high-quality standard.

One thing that we can consider to be quite good is that the company does not have a fixed price for the rental of the Pocket WiFi. Depending on the destination, the price will change little by little.

Generally, prices start at just over $56 and can go up to $84 per week depending on the destination . The company lets you know the exact fare once you choose your destination, so you don’t have to worry about that.

One thing that doesn’t change much is the price of shipping . Depending on where the equipment is being shipped to, the price will vary from $3 to $29 , but it’s still a pretty affordable price.

In addition, the company has several payment methods, so customers don’t have to worry about not having a way to pay for their service. And the last thing to know about this company is that, in case of loss, people will have to pay a penalty of between 149 to 199 USD depending on whether or not the device had its additional accessories.

Cello Mobile

Although the company Cello Mobile is not from Europe , it is one of the most used options for people from North America. Based in the United States, Cello Mobile is an excellent option for people from America who want to visit Europe.

The American company does not change its prices much when offering its service. Regardless of the destination, the price is $349.93 for a week. The price is high, but the quality is good.

The downside comes when it comes to shipping . For people in Canada, the United States, and Mexico, the price is quite affordable. Shipments range from 10 to 30 dollars , while for the rest of the world, the rate goes up to 75 dollars.

On the other hand, Cello Mobile only accepts credit card payments, which may or may not impede many.

The last thing to say about the company is the price that will be paid for penalties . In the event of losing the device, $75 must be paid to the company , which is a somewhat high, though affordable, cost.

My Webspot

Once again, we have a company from Switzerland that will provide us with an excellent service for staying connected thanks to its Pocket Wi-Fi service.

The first thing we have to analyze about My Webspot is its price , which doesn’t seem to be very high. With a price of USD 76.00 per week regardless of the destination , it is an affordable option for people. You can even have unlimited data, although depending on the destination, usage policies may apply. Generally, you get at least 1GB/day of high speed.

Leaving the bad taste left by the service limit behind, we come to the issue of deliveries , which do not exceed 14 USD. Most deliveries are between $5.60 to USD 14.00 , regardless of the destination.

However, as in other cases, people must pay if they lose their equipment . To be exact, they will have to pay a fee of 205,80 dollars , although if they have taken out insurance that costs 13,72 dollars, the cost is halved. On the upside, the company has several payment methods for all transactions that need to be made.

Comparative table between providers of portable WiFi for travel in Europe

We have told you about some of the best portable WiFi for travel in Europe, but now we want to put them all in comparison so you can better evaluate your options.

Options similar to Pocket WiFi in Europe

Europe is a country that will undoubtedly provide a variety of options for accessing the internet even if you don’t have a portable WiFi contract.

As you would expect, there is no shortage of options on this continent. Thanks to SIM cards and International eSIM data cards, we won’t end up disconnected anytime while traveling in Europe.

Both cards have their benefits, so let’s take a closer look at both.

eSIM for Europe

European data SIM card

Data SIM cards are a great way to stay connected. Not only will you have access to the International internet , but you will also be able to communicate easily with whoever you need thanks to this card.

Best of all, buying such a card is not complicated at all. And companies like Holafly offer you their Europe data SIM cards at an affordable price and with benefits that can hardly be beaten.

Prepaid Unlimited data eSIM for Europe

The data eSIM is basically a successor to the famous old SIM card, only now everything is done digitally.

When you buy a data eSIM for Europe , things become simpler because you will receive everything in your email and you can do it anywhere in the world, with no additional cost for doing so.

Again, we have Holafly offering this eSIM service . The price is pretty good, it has coverage almost everywhere in the world, unlimited data,120 minutes of talk time , and people won’t have any problems as it is practically impossible to lose away one of these digital SIMs.

Europe is a large continent where communications have advanced impressively. That’s why as you walk around some of the European countries, you can find free WiFi quite easily.

However, be aware that this is not the best option to consider. If you think you will always have free WiFi, you are wrong. So it’s best to prepare for your trip and have some of the alternatives we’ve already mentioned.

Frequently asked questions about pocket WiFi in Europe

Yes, of course, they work; many providers sell or rent these devices for Europe. Just find one on the web, order your service, and use it when you are on the continent. These pocket WiFi are much safer than using public networks.

Although they are more expensive than other alternatives such as SIM cards or eSIM, pocket WiFi is practical when connecting multiple devices. Being able to connect several phones or laptops at the same time is ideal if you are traveling with your family or in groups. But remember that connecting too many devices can affect the connection speed.

Yes, providers allow you to buy or rent your portable WiFi to use in several countries, although you should generally choose what these destinations will be before you travel. It is usual for these devices to use international SIM cards to work and must have an associated plan that allows it. You should check with your provider to see what regional options they have for pocket WiFi.

As we mentioned, you can buy it with international providers such as Travelers WiFi, Hippocket WiFi, Travel WiFi, and Cello Mobile, among others. Remember that if you need a connection on a single device, eSIMs are a better option to keep internet in Europe .

Yes, any phone can use WiFi networks, no matter if they are from different countries. The vital point in this case is security. If you use public WiFi networks, you can compromise your personal information. If you need connection in multiple devices, it is recommended to use pocket WiFi for Europe.

Pocket WiFi for Travel Best Way To Stay Connected Abroad by JetSettingFools.com

Pocket WiFi For Travel: How To Stay Connected Abroad

Welcome to JetSetting Fools, here you will find our best travel tips for destinations worldwide. Some of the links on this site are Affiliate Links and if you use them to make a purchase, we may earn a commission. For more information, read our Disclosure Policy .

Staying connected while traveling abroad is no longer an indulgence, it is a necessity – and Pocket WiFi for travel makes it easy!

We used to scramble to find free WiFi hotspots in cities around the world, desperately connecting to unsecure networks and feeling utterly helpless when it wouldn’t work.

All of that changed when we purchased a Portable WiFi Device. With our personal pocket WiFi device, we are connected from the moment the flight touches down all around the world.

Why Do I Need Pocket Wi-Fi?

Travel has changed. It used to be that we traveled abroad to disconnect and decompress. But – like it or not – technology is a part of travel now and internet access is practically required. A WiFi connection is not just for uploading Instagram photos and keeping in touch with family and friends on Facebook , but for the essentials of travel.

Our travel Wi-Fi device sometimes feels like a lifeline. While sightseeing , we connect to WiFi to get directions and information. To get around , we rely on apps. When we need to get in touch with our Airbnb host on arrival to a new destination, we need a connection.

In our first year of full-time travel we relied solely on free public Wi-Fi for a connection outside of our accommodations …and it was maddening (not to mention risky!). Racing around in search of connectivity consumed an inordinate amount of time, which inevitably, diminished some of our travel experiences.

Buying a personal travel WiFi router changed the way we travel. We eliminated the stress of frantically searching for public WiFi and instead focus our energy on enjoying our travels .

What Is Pocket WiFi?

Why Wifi when Traveling is essential

If, at this point, you are reading this and thinking ‘What Is A Pocket WiFi?’ you are not alone. So, before we get ahead of ourselves, let’s chat a minute about exactly what pocket WiFi for travel is.

In a nutshell, a pocket WiFi device is a portable WiFi router that is small enough and light enough to fit in your pocket. Similar to your home WiFi router, it provides an internet connection for WiFi enabled devices – like your smartphone, tablet and laptop – but pocket WiFi is powered by a battery.

Pro Tip : Interchangeable terms for pocket WiFi devices are mobile hotspot and MiFi.

How Does Portable WiFi Work?

Similar to a mobile phone, a WiFi pocket device uses cellular signals to create a connection with your WiFi enabled gadgets. The signals are transmitted to the device either via SIM Card or cloud technology (eSIM). The Best Travel WiFi Devices are enabled to use both.

Can I Use My Smartphone Instead of Travel Pocket WiFi?

Yes, but before you use your phone abroad, we caution you to first check roaming rates with your provider. International data fees are notoriously high. When you use your phone, those fees can add up quickly. The last thing you want to do is come home from your vacation to a humungous phone bill.

However, when you invest in a pocket WiFi international device, you purchase data separate from your personal phone plan – likely at a much cheaper rate. There are heaps of other benefits for using a travel WiFi hotspot too, which we dive into in a minute.

Pro Tip: In the United States, some phone carriers offer International Rates packages, but the cost can add up quickly. Do the math to find out which option would be cheaper…and take into consideration future trips abroad, too.

Buying vs Renting WiFi Hotspot

Pocket WiFi rental devices are an option in several destinations around the world. In fact, we have rented devices a couple of times ourselves – in Europe and Japan .

The process is fairly simple; rental pocket WiFi devices can be picked up at the airport or they can be rented online and shipped to you before you depart. The downside to renting pocket WiFi for travel is that learning how to use a new portable WiFi hotspot device can be a bit of a learning curve (which is not something you want to be doing on vacation!).

While the rental WiFi pocket devices worked great for both trips, we determined it would have made more sense financially for us to purchase a mobile WiFi device rather than rent it. Our advice is that if you are going to rent pocket WiFi, do the math to see if it is the better economical choice over buying one.

The Best Pocket WiFi For Travel

Why You Should Always Have WiFi For Travel

Since we started traveling full-time in 2014, we have owned three different pocket internet devices – each one better than the previous.

Our first mobile WiFi hotspot device was tied to a specific mobile carrier and country ( Australia ). It was a locked device (we could only use it with that carrier), which was incredibly limiting and, in the end, ineffective for our nomadic lifestyle.

The second mobile pocket WiFi device we purchased was an unlocked pocket WiFi hotspot, which allowed us to utilize different local SIM cards for connectivity. While that portable pocket WiFi worked well, tracking down a SIM card in every new country became a hassle.

Our current pocket WiFi for travel abroad is the GlocalMe G4 and it is the best pocket WiFi we have owned!

5 Reasons Why GlocalMe is the Best Travel WiFi Hotspot

Use Mobile Wifi for Traveling on Local Buses

After fussing with SIM card pocket WiFi for years, we upgraded to the GlocalMe G4 – and we absolutely love it! We think it is, by far, the best pocket WiFi for the price…and we never travel without it. If you are going to buy pocket WiFi, we highly recommend considering the GlocalMe G4.

In fact, we think GlocalMe G4 is the absolute best pocket WiFi for international travel – and we have five reasons why.

#1 Wi-Fi Data Options

The top reason the GlocalMe G4 is the best pocket router for travel is that there are two options for obtaining data: SIM card or cloud technology. The device is a pocket WiFi with SIM card plus global WiFi data plans can be purchased via the GlocalMe app. Although it is occasionally cheaper to buy a SIM card directly from a vendor, it is invaluable to us to pre-purchase a data plan through the app and be connected via eSIM straight away.

#2 Wi-Fi Connectivity On Arrival

Piggybacking off reason #1, another reason we love GlocalMe pocket 4G WiFi is that we can be connected to the internet the moment the airplane wheels touch down. By purchasing data via the app, we can have our internet connectivity set up before we even arrive in a new country. This saves us time and eliminates anxiety on arrival, which is especially nice after a long haul flight . We can order an Uber , contact our Airbnb host and be on our way without having to negotiate buying and setting up a new SIM card.

Pro Tip:  Another feature we love about GlocalMe is that they offer regional data packages. So, for example, you can buy data plans for your European Vacation and it will keep you connected from Ireland to Italy and from Croatia to Portugal !

#3 Connect Multiple WiFi Devices At One Time

Traveling (and working ) as a couple, one of the things we like best about GlocalMe pocket WiFi 4G is that we can connect up to 10 devices at once. This feature is fantastic for couples, groups and families that travel together – because rather than needing multiple mobile hotspots, we only need one device!

When we are out sightseeing, one of us can be looking up directions, while the other is looking up attraction information. And, we can both be sharing photos with our followers on social media in real time.

#4 Utilize the GlocalMe App to Monitor Wi-Fi Data Usage

Yet another feature we love about the GlocalMe pocket WiFi international hotspot is that we are able to easily track data usage via the GlocalMe App. We can see exactly how much data we have used – and how much we have left – so that we are never surprised or stranded without a WiFi connection.

#5 Long Battery Life and Doubles as Power Bank

Connectivity means nothing if the wireless pocket WiFi or your handheld device doesn’t hold a charge. Fortunately, this is where GlocalMe excels! Once charged, the portable pocket WiFi device can be used for up to 18 hours. And, as an extra benefit, it doubles as a portable battery charger for your other mobile devices as well!

GlocalMe G4 vs Numen Air 5G

Why You Should Travel With Your Own Wifi

In this pocket wifi for travel review we’ve been featuring the GlocalMe G4 , as that is the device we rely on for our travels around the world. However, we would be remiss not to mention the GlocalMe Numen Air 5G . With an even sleeker design, faster speeds and the ability to connect up to 16 devices, the Numen Air is an impressive gadget. In fact, whenever the time come to replace our G4, the Numen Air will be our pick!

Whether you want to update your Insta on the go or need to keep in touch with the office, losing your internet signal can be very frustrating.

But it’s annoying (and can be unsafe) to rely on public Wi-Fi signals in every coffee shop you visit, and sometimes when traveling to remote locations, public connections are just not available.

Instead, you can invest in a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot to ensure safe, secure, and reliable internet access anywhere you go. Here’s what you need to consider when choosing the best one for you.

A Wi-Fi hotspot is a battery-powered wireless router that travels with you. Designed to be compact and lightweight enough to slip into your purse or pocket, a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot device brings the internet to your phone, tablet, or laptop, no matter where in the world it finds you.

These gadgets are a big bonus for anyone traveling away from public Wi-Fi or those looking for a secure connection. A bit like a cellular device, your Wi-Fi hotspot provides access to invisible signals in the sky, all of which can help you to upload pics or receive your emails on the move.

You will need to pay for the data you use, which can be done in the form of packages or day passes that offer unlimited access for a set period of time.

Bottom Line: Using 3G or 4G (and maybe even 5G in the coming months), these smart little devices emit a reliable and incredibly useful Wi-Fi signal that you can hook your favorite gadgets and devices to while away from home.

Battery Life

Most batteries will run happily for between 5-6 hours at a time. If you are traveling somewhere with easy access to electricity, you should be able to charge overnight to ensure your hotspot works when you need it for your daily adventures. If you spend a disproportionately large amount of time online, you may want to look at a device that offers a longer battery life.

Size and Weight

Your Wi-Fi hotspot should be small enough to be carried everywhere with you. After all, if it’s not entirely portable, what exactly is the point? Slimline, lightweight, and often smaller than the smartphone you are trying to connect to, these devices are compact and clever.

Wi-Fi Support

Because some mobile internet providers are better than others, the coverage you receive from any Wi-Fi hotspot can also vary. For example, 2.4GHz gives coverage at a more extended range but will transmit the data at a much slower speed. A 5GHz band, on the other hand, will provide less range with data transmitted at a much faster speed.

Though they may be small, they are still mighty, and most hotspot devices will have a built-in display. At the very least, the display should indicate remaining battery life and current Wi-Fi signal strength. Others may offer bonus features like SMS messages or touch screen modes.

Card Reader

Some portable Wi-Fi hotspots come with the capability to read MicroSD memory cards, which can be used to store and access files from your laptop or home computer. You can also share your stored files with the people who use your network when you want them to have access.

MicroSD memory cards are not typically included with the purchase of a Wi-Fi hotspot, but they are a useful addition that allows you to send and receive SMS messages and save images, music, and other data-heavy files.

Mobile data is delivered using 1 of 2 types of cellular signals in different countries and regions around the world. These cellular standards allow for communication between individuals; without them, we would not be able to keep in touch on such a global scale.

Known as GSM and CDMA, each standard converts both incoming and outgoing radio waves in entirely different ways. Before you buy a hotspot, you need to understand its function and where you’ll be able to use it.

Global System for Mobile Communication is used in most countries around the world. In the U.S., only AT&T and T-Mobile use GSM. GSM uses Time Division Multiple Access (or TDMA), which allocates time slots to multiple conversation streams and alters how phones transmit their information. Doing this requires a SIM card (or “subscriber identification module” card).

It is the SIM card that holds all the information you need to make calls, use mobile internet, and store your contacts. The SIM card tells the device what services you have access to and is vital for GSM communications on the go.

CDMA is used in countries including Russia and the U.S. ( Sprint , Verizon , and US Cellular), and it grants users full access to a wide spectrum of bandwidth, meaning more users can connect at any one time. It also encodes each signal, meaning that every conversation remains protected and filtered.

CDMA does not rely on SIM cards as the device has the technology built into it from the carriers’ networks. This once meant that if you wanted to change carriers, you would need to buy a new device altogether. These days though, many CDMA devices offer the capability to use a SIM card too, especially for those on LTE networks.

Bottom Line: Different countries (and different carriers) use different technologies. In the U.S., Sprint, Verizon, and US Cellular use CDMA, while AT&T and T-Mobile use GSM. When it comes to purchasing a hotspot, make sure you understand what type you’re buying, what countries it will work in, and what providers it will function with.

Many mobile hotspots do work internationally, but this would depend on what plan your device is on. Many plans include a set amount of international data, while others offer unlimited usage for a set fee.

Can mobile hotspot replace home Wi-Fi?

Although mobile hotspots can be used in place of home Wi-Fi, it usually carries higher usage costs. If you are a heavy downloader or video streamer, you would likely be better off registering for a home Wi-Fi service.

Which is better Wi-Fi or hotspot?

Hotspots usually offer slower speeds and less security than Wi-Fi; however, it is convenient if you’re on the move, and there are no guarantees that you will be able to access a Wi-Fi connection.

We're fortunate to live in an era where cell coverage reaches 95 percent of the population, according to the International Telecommunications Union. And that makes staying connected while traveling to most on-the-grid destinations a breeze. Many cell phone carriers offer some level of international data plans, which allows you to use your devices abroad — for a fee, of course.

But if you're working on the go, traveling in a group, or attempting to preserve your phone's battery, you might want to look into getting a portable Wi-Fi hotspot, which often provides more data to more devices. "Portable hotspots will use data just like cell phones do, and coverage will really depend on the carrier and the coverage they offer in the area," Best Buy mobile supervisor Thomas Walker told Travel + Leisure. "Since hotspots require data, they also require a plan, something to remember as you consider buying a portable hotspot."

Best Overall

Skyroam solis lite.

The device comes with a free lifetime global data plan.

1GB of monthly data will go by very quickly; you'll have to pay up for more.

There are many things the Simo Solis Lite does well, but the real showstopper here is the company's lifetime global data plan that gives you 1GB of data each month for as long as your device functions. And this plan truly is global, as the device works in 135+ different countries . That said, 1GB isn't much data at all. Depending on your usage, you might need to upgrade to a more robust data package, which typically costs anywhere from $6 to $109, or potentially more, per month. On the plus side, you don't need to change SIM cards in this hotspot — you can add those plans via an app.

As for the other stats with this device, the 16-hour battery life is well above average. We love that you can charge other devices with this hotspot — although that will reduce its battery life, of course. Up to 10 devices can be connected to the Solis Lite, which is likely suitable for most users, but it's an unremarkable number compared to other products on the market. Similarly, 4G connectivity is serviceable but doesn't earn any special accolades. If you're traveling with a large group of people, you may want to consider other options depending on how connected you need to be.

One other standout feature of this Wi-Fi hotspot is true 24/7 customer support — this is especially valuable for travelers who need internet access at all hours across various time zones.

Best for SIM Cards

Netgear nighthawk m6 pro.

It has Wi-Fi 6E connectivity.

13 hours of battery life is good, but not great.

If you need a fast and reliable internet connection just about anywhere, Netgear's Nighthawk M6 Pro might be the solution. It's compatible with AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon in the U.S., and it works in more than 125 countries when swapping in a new SIM card, supporting both 5G and Wi-Fi 6E. You can connect up to 32 devices simultaneously, allowing an entire team of remote workers to stay connected. And if you're on the move, you'll enjoy a more secure connection with the Nighthawk than public Wi-Fi.

Beyond its uses for remote work around the world, the Nighthawk M6 Pro could even replace a standard internet connection at your home or office. Because it can function with both a wired and wireless connection, you won't lose connectivity due to internet or electricity outages. And with 13 hours of battery life, you'll have time to wait for the outage to end. That said, increased battery life would be ideal, especially for remote workers and travelers. But whether you're in a home office or off the grid, it's hard to beat this product's speed.

The Details: 13-hour battery life | 32 devices | Wi-Fi 6E connectivity | 4.1 x 4.14 x 0.85 inches | 0.56 pounds

Most Versatile

Glocalme numen air 5g.

There's no SIM card required.

The battery life and number of devices could be better, but are likely fine for most users.

The GlocalMe Numer Air 5G works in more than 140 countries on more than 100 operator networks — that means you'll be covered just about anywhere. It doesn't need a SIM card to work, thanks to its CloudSIM technology. Upon purchase, you'll automatically receive 1GB of global data for a 90-day period, and additional data can be added easily via the mobile app. There are thousands of flexible data plans from which to choose, including pay-as-you-go options with no contract. In other words, this is a convenient mobile hotspot to take with you while you travel, since it's designed to be useful in a wide variety of cellular settings and situations.

Stat-wise, we consider the 12-hour battery life to be good, but not especially impressive. That said, it may be plenty of time depending on how you intend to use the device. You can connect up to 16 devices, which is probably plenty for most users but may not be ideal for an office setup.

The Details: 12-hour battery life | 16 devices | 5G connectivity | 6.1 x 2.8 x 0.6 inches | 6.8 ounces

RoamWiFi Portable WiFi Device

It's not just the device that's a good value — some data plans are fairly low-price.

Only five devices can connect to the hotspot at a time.

This 4G LTE mobile hotspot router delivers a surprising amount of power and flexibility inside an affordable package. The device itself is priced under $200, and a variety of data plans are available at all price points, ranging from a $3 day pass to a $299 90-day pass. No SIM card is needed, and the device works in more than 160 countries (there's a complete list about halfway down the Amazon product page). The whopping 18 hours of battery life outperforms every other battery-powered hotspot on our list.

That said, there are some limitations that come with the lower cost. The device does not connect to 5G networks, so internet speeds won't necessarily be the fastest. Also, you can only connect five devices to this hotspot which is plenty for the average solo user, but may not be suitable for groups or families.

The Details: 18-hour battery life | 5 devices | 4G connectivity | ‎4.96 x 2.68 x 0.57 inches | 6.3 ounces

Best Unlocked

Netgear nighthawk m1.

It works on all major domestic carriers, including GoogleFi.

Netgear doesn't publish battery life.

Able to connect and share data with 20 devices at once, the Netgear Nighthawk M1 Mobile Hotspot can handle multiple tasks at once without sacrificing power or speed. It's an unlocked device that uses GSM SIM cards, compatible with AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, and GoogleFi in the United States, and can serve as a backup internet connection while not traveling. It's equipped with fast 4G LTE broadband and offers up to one gigabit per second (Gbps) of download speed. Worried about how much data you've used? Its LCD screen clearly displays how much data is remaining, calculates when it will run out, and keeps count of the devices connected.

While Netgear doesn't publish the battery life of the Nighthawk M1, it claims it can last "all day" — and you can even buy a battery booster pack for more juice. There is an upgraded version of this hotspot that is 5G-compatible, but it's nearly double the price. 5G connectivity may not be necessary for most travelers.

The Details: "All day" battery life | 20 devices | 4G connectivity | 4.15 x 4.15 x 0.8 inches | 8.5 ounces

Best Router

Gl.inet gl-mt3000 wireless travel router.

It creates a more secure internet connection for your devices.

Routers like this one are not capable of providing internet on their own.

Technically, a Wi-Fi router is not a portable Wi-Fi hotspot. But what it does do is allow you to take one internet connection with a tricky login situation — say, hotel Wi-Fi that asks you to input your room number every time you connect — and streamlines the process for connecting additional devices. In a nutshell, you connect to Wi-Fi via the router, which then creates a more secure network for you to connect to from other devices. This router can also boost Wi-Fi signals throughout a space, so if you're in a vacation rental where the Wi-Fi is strong in one room but not another, a router can help.

This portable router is compatible with more than 30 VPN service providers and can accommodate up to 70 different devices, making it one of the best devices for securely accessing high-speed internet while traveling or on the move. The AdGuard feature helps to protect your devices from malware, phishing, ads, and online trackers. This is an especially important safety feature for using unfamiliar WiFi connections.

The Details: 70 devices | Wi-Fi 6 connectivity | 4.53 x 3.15 x 1.18 inches | 6.9 ounces

Tips for Buying a Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot

Consider where and when you'll use it.

Not all portable Wi-Fi hotspots can be used everywhere. If yours is tied to a U.S.–based carrier (like AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon), and you're planning on going abroad, you need to make sure you've paid for a data plan that includes international use. If you're only traveling for a short period of time, this might be the most convenient option.

But if you're planning on traveling internationally for an extended period of time, you might want to opt for an unlocked portable Wi-Fi hotspot — that is, one that isn't tied to a specific carrier. You can then buy a data plan from a company based in your destination, which usually is a more economical decision. "SIM cards are cheap and easy to get in lots of countries worldwide, and going this route ensures you get the strongest signal possible for the lowest price," Peter Holslin, senior staff writer at internet comparison site HighSpeedInternet.com, told T+L.

The duration of your trip should also inform whether you want to purchase an as-you-go data plan (better for shorter tips) or a monthly one (better for longer trips).

Check with your phone carrier

"When you use a portable hotspot, you can choose the carrier it's connected to. So if you want to maximize your coverage, you can use one carrier for your phone and a different carrier for the hotspot," Walker said. It's often cheaper to buy a Wi-Fi hotspot to hook up to a local network while traveling versus paying for an international phone plan with your current carrier as well.

Think about voltage and battery life

For the most part, portable Wi-Fi hotspots use a relatively low amounts of power (about five to seven volts, depending on the size and strength of the device). However, you should still utilize a power converter when plugging your hotspot in during international travels. Not all outlets around the world support the same power output, so using an adapter can prevent blowing a fuse or sparking your devices. If you want a more portable Wi-Fi hotspot that doesn't need to be plugged in, be sure to check its expected battery life to know exactly how long you can use it on the go.

"Wi-Fi hotspots work similar to phones, tapping into your cellular network to provide high-speed data for use with laptops, tablets, gaming systems, etc.," Verizon spokesperson George Koroneos told T+L. "What's more? You can give access to your travel companions, so they can use your dedicated hotspot, similar to a Wi-Fi network."

Yes, it does. "Mobile hotspots connect to cellular networks to provide internet connection allowing customers to connect anywhere," Jeff Howard, AT&T's vice president of hardware and partner solutions, told T+L.

It depends on what type of portable hotspot you have and what type of plan you have. If your hotspot plan is locked to a specific carrier, you'll need to make sure your carrier has an international plan. (Spoiler alert: most do.) It might be as simple as turning your device on and letting it automatically connect to a local cell network. But if your portable hotspot requires a local SIM card to work, you'll have to pick one up at the airport or at a store and insert it into your hotspot to connect to a local cell network.

Many cell phone providers have international plan options for travelers, and you can turn most smartphones into a mobile hotspot under that plan. Then you can connect devices to your cell phone for internet services. But that's not always the best solution. "One thing to consider is carriers may limit the hotspot data amount on your phone, so you may see slower speeds at a certain point," Walker said. "You also don't have to run your cell phone battery when you use a standalone hotspot." On the other hand, portable Wi-Fi hotspots require their own data plans, which costs additional money.

How to Get Internet in Europe Without Roaming Fees

When traveling abroad, get a policy from one of the  best travel insurance companies . Y ou can get a  5% discount   on Heymondo , the only insurance that pays medical bills upfront for you, HERE!

Having Internet in Europe is something you’ll want to consider when planning your trip to this diverse continent. Not only will Wi-Fi in Europe help you look up directions and book reservations, but it’ll keep you connected to friends and family back home.

Until a few years ago, roaming in Europe was an expensive service, so if you used the Internet, made calls, or sent texts, you’d rack up a huge bill. However, a few years ago, the European Union passed a law that made data roaming in the EU free for travelers in European Union countries, Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway. So, if you’re from any of those countries, you can use your phone’s regular SIM card and enjoy Internet while traveling around Europe.

How to get Internet in Europe without roaming fees

For travelers from the US, the UK, Canada, and other countries, a SIM card for Europe will help you stay connected during your trip. I always use the Holafly eSIM , which is super easy to install since it’s 100% digital. It also provides coverage in over 32 destinations in Europe, as well as unlimited data and 60 minutes of calls made and received within Europe. If you’re interested, be sure to take advantage of our Holafly discount code .

As you can see, there are different ways to get Internet while traveling , so keep reading to see which option suits you.

Using roaming in Europe

Data roaming in Europe is a service that allows you to have mobile data for surfing the Web, making calls, and sending texts while abroad. This is possible because your telephone company has agreements with different local operators across Europe, so you can stay connected without changing your usual SIM card.

However, this service is super expensive, even if you travel to the cheapest destinations in Europe , so if you use it, you’ll come home to a big phone bill. It’s a much better idea to use an EU pocket Wi-Fi device , a European Wi-Fi hotspot , or a European SIM card. Each of these options will let you have Internet in the EU at a much cheaper price.

As I mentioned, the EU passed a law a few years ago that makes roaming in Europe free between its member countries as well as Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway. So, as long as you have a European SIM card , you can use your data throughout the continent, regardless of which country you bought it in, and without being charged extra fees.

Using roaming to get Internet in Europe

If you don’t have a SIM card for Europe and want to use data roaming in the EU , I’ll tell you how to do so, but get ready for a hefty phone bill. You should also keep in mind that some European countries aren’t part of this EU law, so if you want to have Internet in Switzerland , or stay connected in Andorra , for example, it’s worth looking for alternative methods.

To clear things up, here is a complete list of the countries included in the EU roaming agreement: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, and Sweden.

The United Kingdom isn’t included in this agreement, but some UK telecom companies don’t charge for roaming in Europe . However, if you’re coming from the U.S., you’ll need to find a solution so you can avoid high roaming charges.

Fortunately, there are several ways to get cheap mobile Internet in Europe , such as the Holafly eSIM for Europe . I’ll share more options below, so keep reading!

How to get Internet in Europe

If you’re coming from the United States, the UK, or any other country not included in the EU roaming agreement, your usual SIM card won’t cover data roaming in Europe . Don’t worry though because I’m sharing the best ways to get Internet in Europe .

1. Holafly eSIM , the best way to get Internet in Europe

First, the Holafly eSIM is the best way to get mobile Internet in Europe . It offers great coverage in over 32 countries, as well as unlimited data. Plus, since it’s totally digital, installation is super easy, and you can even purchase it when you’re already abroad.

To get this eSIM for Europe, you must order it through the Holafly website . Immediately after purchasing it, you’ll receive an email with a QR code that you need to scan to start browsing the Internet. If you have any issues, the Holafly customer service team is available 24 hours a day, so it’s the most convenient option.

Holafly eSIM, best pocket wifi europe

This European Internet card is ideal for travelers who don’t have a dual SIM slot on their devices. Since the eSIM is 100% digital, you don’t need to insert it and worry about keeping your original SIM safe while traveling. You can also keep your local number, making this a practical solution for people who need the Internet in Europe for work. Holafly’s European mobile plans with unlimited data also offer 60 minutes to receive calls and 60 minutes to make calls in Europe.

Before buying the international eSIM card , make sure you check your device’s compatibility here . Holafly works with all the latest smartphone models, but it’s always a good idea to check anyway.

We’ve used Holafly in over 10 different countries and have always had excellent coverage, so I highly recommend it if you want to have Internet in the EU . If you decide to get it, make sure you use our 5% discount on Holafly to save money.

2. SimOptions SIM card , another good way to get Internet in the EU

If the Holafly eSIM isn’t compatible with your device, or you prefer a physical card, I recommend the SimOptions SIM card . It offers several different plans at affordable prices, so you can get Wi-Fi in Europe without breaking the bank.

Installing this SIM is simple since you just have to insert it into your device. Of course, if you don’t have a dual SIM slot, you’ll have to remove your usual SIM and store it somewhere safe while you use the European one.

SimOptions, best internet europe

Another nice thing about SimOptions is that they can send the European mobile data SIM card to any part of Europe within 1-3 business days. This means you can have it sent to your hotel so it’s ready for you when you arrive. You can also order it before your trip and have it delivered to your house, but make sure you give yourself ample time since it’ll take up to 72 hours for it to arrive.

Depending on the card you choose, SimOptions can be more expensive than the Holafly eSIM . Also, Holafly offers unlimited Internet in Europe , so it’s my first choice.

3. Local SIM card, a cheap way to get Internet in Europe

For those who are on a budget, there are ways to get cheap mobile Internet in Europe . In this case, you can buy a local SIM card at your destination, as these cards are available in any country.

The downside is that you’ll have to spend time figuring out which option best suits your needs when you arrive at your destination. This involves comparing the different telephone companies and their prices and data plans depending on the first country on your tour.

To give you a head start, I’ll tell you that two of the most popular companies are Orange and Vodafone, which operate in many European countries. You can see an overview of their EU mobile Internet plans and prices below:

In my opinion, buying a local European Internet card can be useful for long trips. However, if it’s a short visit, you don’t want to waste time shopping around and comparing the different offers.

4. Pocket Wi-Fi, another option for using the European Internet

Another practical way to get Internet and data in Europe is by using a portable Wi-Fi device . There are different European pocket Wi-Fi options, such as this mini router , which we use and love. If you work remotely like us, this is the most convenient way to enjoy mobile Wi-Fi in Europe while ensuring a secure, encrypted connection.

Pocket Wi-Fi, unlimited internet europe mobile

You can use EU pocket Wi-Fi even if your device is locked, and you won’t have to risk your information by using a public network. In addition to greater flexibility, having portable Wi-Fi in Europe allows you to connect several devices simultaneously. If you’re traveling as a group, this can work out great and save everyone money, compared to the other European Internet options. Otherwise, you should consider whether the benefits of a pocket Wi-Fi device outweigh their high mobile data plan prices.

5. Public Wi-Fi network, a way to get free Internet in the EU

The last option I’ll mention is using the public Wi-Fi network at hotels, restaurants, and airports during your trip. While you’ll be able to use the Internet in Europe for free , there are definite drawbacks.

Public Wi-Fi network, roaming in europe

Public Wi-Fi network, a way to get free Internet in the EU

For example, the connection isn’t reliable, and may not even be secure, so you’ll risk having your data stolen. Also, the Internet speeds in Europe via public Wi-Fi are much slower since many devices are connected. You may even have a time or data usage limit per day, which can be frustrating. And of course, you’ll only be able to access the Web if you’re in that specific spot, so it’s not ideal for traveling.

If you only need to check your email and messages, then using public Wi-Fi in the EU may suffice. However, for working and staying connected to friends or loved ones, I recommend choosing one of the other options I mentioned, such as an international SIM card or European Wi-Fi router .

How much is roaming in Europe?

If you’re from one of the countries in the EU data roaming agreement, then there is no cost for roaming in Europe . Just go into the Settings menu on your device and make sure Data Roaming is activated.

La Sagrada Familia, internet speed europe by country

How much is Internet in Europe if you roam?

For everyone else, including travelers from the UK or U.S., roaming in the EU could be pretty expensive, so I don’t recommend it. Rather, I suggest going with one of the options I mentioned in this guide, such as a European SIM card or mobile hotspot for Europe .

What is the best way to have Internet in Europe?

Hands down, the best way to have Internet in Europe is by using a European SIM card . If you don’t have one because you’re visiting from outside Europe, then I recommend getting the Holafly eSIM , a virtual SIM card with unlimited data for Europe . If your device isn’t compatible with an eSIM, then a physical card from SimOptions is the best option.

I hope this guide helps you get the best travel Wi-Fi in Europe for your needs and budget. Don’t hesitate to leave me a comment with any questions you have about accessing the Internet in Europe .

HippocketWifi’s Network Partner may suspend Services: (i) in order to carry out maintenance or testing of the Network; (ii) during any technical failure of the Network, (iii) when it is necessary to safeguard the security and integrity of the Network or to reduce the incidence of fraud; (iv) where it identifies Artificially Inflated Traffic; or (iv) due to Emergency Planning Measures. Where Customer is in breach of its obligations under this Sec. 3, HippocketWifi shall be entitled to suspend the Customer’s use of the Services. Before exercising this right, HippocketWifi shall notify the Customer of its intention to do so where this is reasonably practicable, allowing an opportunity to remedy the alleged breach (where it is capable of remedy); otherwise HippocketWifi shall notify Customer as soon as reasonably practicable after the suspension. During any period of suspension, Customer shall continue to pay all Charges due under this Agreement in respect of the suspended Services.

3. START, DURATION AND TERMINATION OF THE CONTRACT The service contract between HippocketWifi and the customer takes place with the order at HippocketWifi website https://www.hippocketwifi.com and with the following assumptions by HippocketWifi: our mobile hotspots may be rented by the customer for a specified number of days and requires the customer to pay a daily rental fee from the date of the rental start, to the date of return. The contract ends as soon as the customer returns the rented mobile hotspot after the end of the rental period. The customer is strictly forbidden to make changes to the device or to change or remove any part of the device related to the ownership of the device by HippocketWifi.

4. CHARGES AND PAYMENT 4.1 CHARGES FOR USE a) HippocketWifi states all Charges inclusive of VAT, unless specified otherwise. b) HippocketWifi maintains the right to debit the Customer the amount due for a late return of the Equipment in accordance with Sec. 4.2. c) If Customer reasonably and in good faith disputes an invoice or part of it, Customer shall notify HippocketWifi of such dispute within 14 days of receipt of the invoice, providing details of why the invoiced amount is incorrect and, if possible, how much Customer considers is due. d) HippocketWifi may require a reasonable security, such as a credit card guarantee, from the Customer upon conclusion of the Agreement for claims under Sec. 4.2. For this purpose, HippocketWifi will ask for authority from the card issuing company for an amount equivalent to the Replacement Fee. In the events described in Sec. 4.2, HippocketWifi may use the credit card information to charge the Customer for the Equipment’s use, replacement or repair. e) The Customer shall not be entitled to set off any of its claims against claims of HippocketWifi, except where the Customer’s claims are undisputed or have been confirmed by final court judgment. Unless the Customer is a Consumer, the foregoing shall also apply to any right of retention under civil or commercial law, and in particular to any deductions from recurrent payments to HippocketWifi based on alleged non-conformities of Equipment or Services. The foregoing shall not limit the Customer’s claim for repayment of any amounts paid but not actually owed to HippocketWifi after such payment to HippocketWifi. 4.2 CHARGES FOR LOSS AND DAMAGE The customer is solely responsible for all loss or damage to the equipment during the rental period. For the case of loss or damage of each device a deposit of EUR 150 must be secured and is retained in the event of a claim. In case of a claim, the following amounts will be used: – Full loss: EUR 150 – Device only: EUR 135 – Charger: EUR 10 – Cable: EUR 10 – Case: EUR 5 4.3 LATE FEES Failure to return the equipment (including all accessories and user guides) promptly to HippocketWifi will incur additional late charges. – Return from France All returns must be postmarked from France at latest the business day following the rental’s end date. All returns must be made using the supplied prepaid return envelope. If this envelope has been lost, the equipment must be returned using a 3 days max shipping method. This shipment method must be paid for by the customer. -Return from outside France Sending back the equipment is the customer’s responsibility, and for this the customer should choose an “express” delivery option. The address for the shipment is: HippoDev SARL 3 rue des Pres – 69008 Lyon – France In the event that we fail to receive the equipment, or any portion of the equipment, three business days after the specified rental end date, the customer will incur a daily penalty fee of EUR 10 until the date the equipment is received. If for any reason the customer is unable to return the equipment to us, including but not limited to the equipment being lost or stolen during the rental period, the customer should contact HippocketWifi immediately via email to [email protected] , so that additional late charges are not incurred. For any complaints regarding the late fees the customer must provide the confirmation of the return of equipment to HippocketWifi to ensure that the equipment was sent back as the customer claims.

5. DELIVERY The customer is responsible for checking that the delivery mode he chose is compatible with the date of order and the first day of rental. It is the customer responsibility to make sure that the mobile hotspot’s delivery will be accepted. If the delivery address entered by the customer during the booking phase is not his own address, it is the customer’s responsibility to warn the hotel (or office, third party…) so that they accept the delivery on his behalf. Mobile hotspots lost because of a wrong and/or incomplete address provided by the customer will be charged to the customer following the amounts defined in paragraph 4.2 (Charges for loss and damage). The shipping costs include the delivery to the designated address. The shipping costs are calculated individually and are shown separately during the online-registration and order process.

6. RETURN All returns should be returned by “LaPoste”, the French local mail service, using the enclosed prepaid envelope. It should be postmarked no later than one business day following the specified rental end date. The HippocketWifi equipment shall be returned in working order and good physical condition. The customer assumes all risk of loss and damage from the return of all equipment to our designated address. If the customer leaves France without posting the device, it is his responsibility to ship it as soon as possible. It is then his responsibility to pay for the international return shipping charges. Device should be shipped to: HippoDev SARL 3 rue des Pres – 69009 Lyon – France For any complaints related to the HippocketWifi return policies the customer must be able to proof the shipment.

7. RESERVATION OF TITLE AND USAGE The HippocketWifi mobile hotspot device shall always remain the property of HippocketWifi. Any notes on the devices may not be changed or removed or be disguised. The customer is only entitled to use the device for purpose stated in this contract. Any use of the HippocketWifi mobile hotspot contrary to the purposes described herein is prohibited. It’s strictly forbidden to customer to remove or change any parts of the device. The device could not be used with any other SIM card than the provided one. On the consignment of the mobile hotspot an instruction sheet is allocated to the customer. The customer must use the device carefully. The customer must pay for damages on the devices.

8. REFUND / CANCELLATION 8.1 REFUND / CANCELLATION / MODIFICATION POLICY The customer may cancel any reservation at any time at no charge until the device is shipped. This means 3 business days before start date for “Standard” delivery. It’s not possible to modify, shorten or extend his rental. 8.2 DAILY QUOTA AND REDUCED SPEED Our daily quotas are pooled, and can be used whenever the client wishes during his rental period. For example, if a customer rents a device for 5 days, with a quota of 300 megabytes per day, he has an available quota of 1 500 megabytes, which he uses the way he wants during these five days. If the customer uses more than his quota, the speed could be drastically reduced and Customer may have very limited access to the Service. 8.3 CONSUMPTION MONITORING It is your responsibility to track your consumption using tools on your equipment (smartphone, tablet or laptop) as the consumption reports we have can sometimes come a couple of days after the consumption.

All customer provided data saved byHippocketWifi, will be explicitly used for purposes of contractual fulfillment and to inform the customer about products related to their contractual agreement. A revocation of consent may be served at any time, but must be made in writing to HippocketWifi, stating the affected email addresses. Any such data is is protected by French law “Loi N° 78-17 Informatique et libertés du 6 Janvier 1978” that states that the customer can access, modify or delete any personal data, and that he could use this right by writing to: HippoDev SARL, 3 rue des Pres, 69009 Lyon – France
