The tournament will be played October 7-10 at Paradise Village’s El Tigre Club de Golf .

The PGA TOUR Latinoamérica’s Dev Series announced Thursday that its season-ending Dev Series Final will be played at El Tigre Golf Club de Golf in Mexico’s Riviera Nayarit. Featuring a projected field of 84 players, the 72-hole tournament is set for October 7-10, and it will award at least 20 PGA TOUR Latinoamérica cards for the upcoming 2021-22 season.

With the global pandemic slowing things across the region, the Dev Series had an extended regular season that began in January of 2020 in Mar del Plata, Argentina, and concluded earlier this month in Caracas, Venezuela. The leading-five players available from each of the 15 co-sanctioned Dev Series events qualified for the season finale. In addition, the field includes those who finished 61st through 75th on the 2020-21 PGA TOUR Latinoamérica Points List.

“The 2021 Dev Series Final will be a great success. The course at El Tigre Club de Golf is ready to welcome and test the players who will come looking for their PGA TOUR Latinoamérica card,” said José Manuel Garrido, Dev Series Executive Director. “We want to thank our partners at Paradise Village and the Riviera Nayarit Convention & Visitors Bureau for their efforts in bringing this event to such a great destination in Mexico.”

The players competing at El Tigre next month will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of notable Dev Series Final alums such as current PGA TOUR members Sebastián Muñoz and Mito Pereira. After finishing inside the top 10 at the 2015 Dev Series Final, Muñoz went on to become a PGA TOUR champion, with a victory at the 2019 Sanderson Farms Championship. A Dev Series Final top-10 finisher as well in 2018, Pereira won three Korn Ferry Tour events this past season to earn an early promotion to the PGA TOUR, where he is a 2021-22 member.

“We are proud to provide the rising stars in Latin America with a pathway to PGA TOUR Latinoamérica and the higher levels of PGA TOUR golf. The Dev Series Final is a unique opportunity for many of them to start their international careers,” added Garrido.

The top-five players at the Dev Series Final will secure exempt status for the 2021-22 PGA TOUR Latinoamérica season, while the players finishing sixth through 10th will be exempt for the first portion of the season. Players finishing 11th through 15th and 16th through 20th, and ties, will receive two different conditional-status categories.

2023 Dev Series Final headed to Mazatlan’s Estrella del Mar Golf Club

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Florida – The PGA TOUR Latinoamérica’s Dev Series announced that its season-ending 2023 Dev Series Final will be played at Estrella del Mar Golf Club in Mazatlan, Mexico. Featuring a field of 84 players, the 72-hole tournament is set for November 1-4 (Wednesday through Saturday), and it will award 10 PGA TOUR Americas cards. The leading three players (no ties) will earn exempt status for the 2024 PGA TOUR Americas’ Latin American Swing, while the players finishing fourth through 10th (no ties) will earn conditional status.

Co-sanctioning events from the top domestic Tours from across Latin America, the 2022-23 Dev Series regular season consisted of 16 tournaments in six countries played between July 2022 and July 2023. The leading five players available from each of those events are eligible for the Dev Series Final. The field will also include players who finished 61st through 75th on the 2022-23 Totalplay Cup Points List on PGA TOUR Latinoamérica.

In addition to them, players ranked 76th through 200th in the 2022-23 Totalplay Cup standings will join an alternate list to guarantee the field of 84 players gets completed. Any player who has already earned exempt status for the 2024 PGA TOUR Americas season will not be eligible to compete in this event.

“The Dev Series Final offers a unique opportunity for the up-and-coming players competing in Latin America. We are proud to provide them with a pathway into the inaugural season of PGA TOUR Americas and the higher levels of PGA TOUR golf,” said Claudio Rivas, Director Tournament Administration of PGA TOUR Americas.

The players competing for a US $40,000 purse at Estrella del Mar this coming November will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of notable Dev Series Final alums such as recent PGA TOUR champion Nicolás Echavarría, who won the 2023 Puerto Rico Open.

Welcoming this event for the first time, Estrella del Mar Golf Club is well known by players who have competed on PGA TOUR Latinoamérica. Designed by Robert Trent Jones II and open since 1996, the 7,015-yard, par-72 has hosted events such as the Mazatlán Open, the Estrella del Mar Open, the Mexico Open, and several PGA TOUR Latinoamérica Q-Schools since 2014.

“For us at Estrella del Mar, it is a pleasure to welcome the Tour once again. We understand the importance of PGA TOUR Americas and the opportunity it provides for the players playing at the Dev Series Final here in Mazatlan. We are well-prepared and it is always our pleasure to align ourselves with the Tour's mission of promoting the game of golf in Mexico,” said Santiago Quirarte, Golf Director at Estrella del Mar Golf Club.

Welcoming this event for the first time, El Tigre Club de Golf provides a challenging golf course designed by the team of Robert Von Hagge, Mike Smelek and Rick Baril. Open since 2002, the 7,239-yard, par-72 has welcomed several professional events through the years, including a World Cup Qualifying Tournament played here between 2002 and 2005.

“We are really excited to be hosting the Dev Series Final. This will be a great opportunity to showcase the golf course itself, the quality of the design of El Tigre and just what a great golf course it is. On top of that, we also look forward to promoting such an incredibly beautiful area as Riviera Nayarit,” said Steve Johnson, Golf Director at El Tigre Club de Golf.

While at Riviera Nayarit, the Dev Series Finals competitors and visitors will have a taste of a vacation paradise nestled between the Pacific Ocean and the Western Sierra Madre Mountains. This destination is one of the largest golf corridors in the Pacific, with popular tourism areas such as Nuevo Vallarta, Flamingos, Bucerias, La Cruz, Punta Mita, San Francisco, and Lo de Marcos.

“We’re thrilled to introduce Riviera Nayarit to the Dev Series players, staff and spectators,” said Marc Murphy, Managing Director of Riviera Nayarit Convention & Visitors Bureau. “Riviera Nayarit has made a name for itself among golfers by offering the best venues and the most-renowned tournaments. The playing experience at El Tigre Club de Golf is of the highest level, with its new upscale championship facilities and the magnificent mountain, tropical forest and beach landscapes that surround it.”

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Florida, EE.

dev series pga tour latinoamerica

dev series pga tour latinoamerica

dev series pga tour latinoamerica

dev series pga tour latinoamerica

PGA TOUR Latinoamérica and PGA TOUR Canada are to merge into a singular Tour to form PGA TOUR Americas, which will begin play in February 2024, the PGA TOUR announced today.

PGA TOUR Americas will consist of 16 events contested across Latin America, Canada and the United States from February through September. The top 10 finishers on the season-long points list will earn Korn Ferry Tour membership for the following season.

“As we build on the rich golf history across Latin America and Canada, we are thrilled about PGA TOUR Americas and the role this tour will play in preparing players for the next step in their professional golf journey,” said Alex Baldwin, who oversees PGA TOUR Americas, the Korn Ferry Tour, PGA TOUR Q-School presented by Korn Ferry and PGA TOUR University. “PGA TOUR Americas will be an extremely competitive tour aimed at identifying, developing and transitioning top-performing players to the next level as they ascend through the ranks and strive to reach the highest level of professional golf, the PGA TOUR.”

dev series pga tour latinoamerica

The PGA TOUR Americas season will begin in February with the Latin America Swing, which will conclude in May. Eligibility for the Latin America Swing will include the top 60 finishers from the final 2022-2023 PGA TOUR Latinoamérica Points List and the top 60 finishers from the final 2023 PGA TOUR Canada Points List.

PGA TOUR Q-School presented by Korn Ferry will also provide access to the Latin America Swing of PGA TOUR Americas for the winners of a First Stage site, as well as additional finishers beyond the 40th position and ties from Final Stage of 2023 PGA TOUR Q-School presented by Korn Ferry. Additional access to the Latin America Swing will include the Latinoamérica Dev Series and the highest finisher on the 2023 APGA season-long points list who is a member of the APGA Player Development program.

The top 60 players from the Latin America Swing will continue on to compete in the North America Swing. Additionally, PGA TOUR Americas will host a mid-season Q-School, as well as introduce graduates from PGA TOUR University (finishers 6-20). Full eligibility for PGA TOUR Americas will be announced later this year and will feature similar categories to PGA TOUR Latinoamérica and PGA TOUR Canada, including open qualifiers, sponsor exemptions and eligible Korn Ferry Tour members.

As PGA TOUR Americas heads to the North America Swing, members will compete in Canada and the United States from June through September in an effort to finish in the top 10 on the season-long points list and earn Korn Ferry Tour membership – exempt through the third reshuffle – for the following season.

In addition to Korn Ferry Tour cards being awarded to the top 10 finishers on the PGA TOUR Americas Points List, there are also numerous performance benefits available on PGA TOUR Americas. Five conditional Korn Ferry Tour cards are available to the top two finishers in the Latin America Swing and the top three performers from the North America Swing, in the event those individuals do not finish in the top 10 on the final PGA TOUR Americas Points List.

Additionally, performance on the PGA TOUR Americas Points List will grant access into 2024 PGA TOUR Q-School presented by Korn Ferry. The top 10 finishers on the PGA TOUR Americas Points List, the top two finishers in the Latin America Swing and the top three finishers in the North America Swing will earn exemptions to Final Stage of PGA TOUR Q-School presented by Korn Ferry.

Finishers 11–25 on the PGA TOUR Americas Points List, finishers 3–10 from the Latin America Swing and finishers 4–10 from the North America Swing will earn exemptions to Second Stage of PGA TOUR Q-School presented by Korn Ferry.

All remaining PGA TOUR Americas members will earn exemptions to First Stage of PGA TOUR Q-School presented by Korn Ferry.

The 2024 PGA TOUR Americas schedule will be announced in September. Finalized details regarding eligibility – including the priority ranking – as well as purses and points distribution, will be announced closer to the 2024 PGA TOUR Americas season beginning in February 2024.

Pga tour americas merges latinoamerica and canada tours, aims to create a more efficient, competitive pathway for players, share this article.

Goodbye PGA Tour Latinoamerica and PGA Tour Canada, hello PGA Tour Americas.

Beginning in February 2024, the two third-level tours will merge under one umbrella as the PGA Tour continues to grow and develop its product. The restructure will aim to create a more efficient and competitive pathway for players looking to take the next step in their professional golf careers.

PGA Tour Americas will hold 16 events across Latin America, Canada and the United States from February-September, with up to 15 Korn Ferry Tour cards available, as well as numerous exemptions to various stages of PGA Tour Q-School.

“As we build on the rich golf history across Latin America and Canada, we are thrilled about PGA Tour Americas and the role this tour will play in preparing players for the next step in their professional golf journey,” said Korn Ferry Tour President Alex Baldwin.

So how will it all work?

The full 2024 PGA Tour Americas schedule will be announced in September. Finalized details regarding eligibility, priority ranking, purses and points distribution will be announced closer to the inaugural event in February 2024. Here’s an outline:

  • The season begins in February with the Latin America Swing, which wraps in May.
  • Following that the PGA Tour Americas will host a mid-season Qualifying School and introduce a handful of PGA Tour University graduates.
  • The season will then continue with the North America Swing, where players will compete across Canada and the U.S. from June-September.

Eligibility for the Latin America Swing

Fields for the Latin America Swing (February-May 2024) will consist of 144 players. Those eligible to compete will include the top 60 players from the PGA Tour Latinoamerica points list from 2022-23 as well as the top 60 players on the PGA Tour Canada points list from 2023. Players can also qualify via the following routes ( priority ranking to be announced ):

  • 2023 PGA Tour Q-School
  • Latinoamerica Dev Series
  • Highest finisher on the 2023 APGA season-long points list who is a member of the APGA Player Development program

Eligibility for the North America Swing

The top 60 players from the Latin America Swing will continue on to compete in the North America Swing (June-September 2024), where the field will increase to 156 players. The top 50 from the PGA Tour Americas Q-School as well as Nos. 6-20 from PGA Tour University will also be eligible. Players can also qualify via the following routes ( priority ranking to be announced ):

  • Open qualifying and sponsor exemptions
  • Korn Ferry Tour
  • Additional finishers Latin America Swing / PGA Tour Americas Q-School

Performance benefits

The top 10 finishers on the season-long PGA Tour Americas points list will earn Korn Ferry Tour membership. Five conditional Korn Ferry Tour cards are available to the top two finishers in the Latin America Swing and the top three finishers from the North America Swing.

The top 10 finishers on the PGA Tour Americas points list, the top two from the Latin America Swing and the top three from in the North America Swing will all earn exemptions to the Final Stage of PGA Tour Q-School.

The following players will all earn exemptions to the Second Stage of PGA Tour Q-School:

  • Nos. 11–25 on the PGA Tour Americas points list
  • Nos. 3–10 from the Latin America Swing
  • Nos. 4–10 from the North America Swing.

All remaining PGA Tour Americas members will earn exemptions to the First Stage of Q-School.

Why it makes sense

The Latinoamerica and Canada tours were essentially doing the same thing on a different schedule from two tours it was supposed to be feeding, the Korn Ferry Tour and PGA Tour.

Aside from streamlining a confusing pathway to the Tour, the merge will also put all three levels – PGA Tour Americas, Korn Ferry Tour and PGA Tour – on the same operating schedule in a January–September/October window. From October–December, most PGA Tour players will compete in the fall series. Everyone else will enter Q-School to play for status and exemptions.

More benefits for solid play and an easier to understand system are improvements for both fans and the players. Time will only tell if this was the right move for the Tour, but in theory, it checks out.
