18 Best Things to Do in Revelstoke, British Columbia

A small town on the edge of Highway 1 in British Columbia, Revelstoke is often overlooked by travellers heading between Vancouver and Calgary. But this is a mistake. I know that because I’ve made it too, I can put my hands up to that!

The truth of it is that Revelstoke should be the destination, not the rest stop – read on to discover 18 must do Revelstoke attractions and activities that prove it.

The Lowdown on Revelstoke

Revelstoke is a town in the interior of British Columbia, home to around 7000 year round residents. It is located right on Highway 1, almost halfway between Vancouver and Calgary. Despite being so well connected, Revelstoke still feels amazingly remote.

Revelstoke is a town that has real community. Speak to a couple of people and you’ll soon realise that people absolutely love living here (you could even say they’re ‘stoked’). And it’s easy to see why.

Perched on the edge of the Columbia River and surrounded by the Monashee and Selkirk mountain ranges, Revelstoke is a beautiful outdoor playground. Skiing, hiking, paddling, climbing and more, you can do it all here. And do it well, I should add. This isn’t a town that puts half effort in anything.

The best things to do in Revelstoke

To experience the best of this adventurous town, here are 18 of the best Revelstoke attractions and activities. I’d recommend to spend at least four days doing as many as you can (as the season allows, see below for more info).

Only have a day or two to see Revelstoke? Pick three or four of the below list and resolve to come back to Revelstoke ASAP.

Many of the must do Revelstoke attractions below can be done year round, or at least May to October (dependent on when the snow flies). Revelstoke may be best known for winter activities, but the town is actually an ideal summer destination too.

Indeed, on our recent late summer trip, we were blown away by the amount of cool things to do in Revelstoke at that time of year. This list is based on our own experiences plus recommendations from the many friendly locals who were happy to share their favourite adventures.

With scenery as beautiful as this, hiking is a must do Revelstoke activity. Not only is there is a huge amount of trails close to town, but the variety is wide too. Think summit trails, alpine meadows, river valleys, temperate rainforest and more. Revelstoke has it all!

Revelstoke Mountain Resort offers some excellent (and easily accessible) alpine hiking. A 11km return heads to Greely Lake while the Stoke Climb travels uphill to the alpine region of Mount Mackenzie (14km return).

Plenty of exhausting but rewarding hikes await in Glacier National Park, about 30 minutes drive from town. The Abbott Ridge trail, for example, offers incredible views to hikers who make the effort.

For an overnight hike, consider the trip to Eva Lake in Mount Revelstoke National Park . Most of the elevation to this beautiful alpine lake is completed on the Meadows in the Sky Parkway, allowing for a relatively flat hike through the wildflowers.

Pipe Mountain Coaster

Ridiculously fun no matter how old you are, the Pipe Mountain Coaster launches you on a 42km/h journey down the slopes of Revelstoke Mountain Resort.

The brakes in each car are individually controlled by the rider so you can go as fast as you like. The track really whips around the trees and features a number of sharp corners. I absolutely love fast rides and found myself using the brakes a couple of times.

This must do Revelstoke attraction has really put the town on the map in the last few years, especially since it is one of only three in Canada.

On your own visit to the Pipe Mountain Coaster, however, don’t forget to make the most of the other activities and attractions Revelstoke Mountain Resort has to offer. The alpine hiking (and views) at the top of the Revelation Gondola are particularly fabulous.

Mountain biking

If you like cross country mountain biking, you’ll definitely fall in love with Revelstoke. And you don’t have to go far to access it. Close to town, the Mount MacPherson trail network has more than 55km of singletrack on offer.

An epic ride through alpine meadows, the Keystone Standard Basin Trail is Revelstoke’s iconic single track alpine adventure. Originally a backpacking trail in the 70’s, this run is especially pretty in August when the wildflowers are out.

For the ultimate in mountain biking in Revelstoke (a bucket list ‘must do’ Revelstoke activity if you will), consider a helibiking tour. Descend as much as 3000m in one day after being dropped close to the summit of Mount Cartier.

Paragliding

If I had to choose one of these must do Revelstoke activities to go to the top of your list, it would have to be paragliding. Revelstoke has the highest paragliding descent on offer in Canada and the experience is nothing short of amazing.

Paragliding must be one of the most relaxed ‘extreme’ sports out there. As a tandem passenger, it’s basically a scenic ride (albeit hundreds of metres above the ground) in a very comfortable chair. There is also the opportunity to steer the glider and even try some exciting aerial manoeuvres.

With JR not being a big fan of heights, he was initially a little reluctant to go paragliding in Revelstoke. Arriving our landing site, the first thing he said to me was ‘can we buy our own?’ That says it all. Contact Revelstoke Paragliding to try it yourself.

Glacier National Park

Not to be confused by the American park of the same name, the boundary of Glacier National Park is 45km east of Revelstoke. Highway 1 winds directly through this rugged park, offering drivers a chance to see some of the snowiest terrain in BC.

In summer, the park is a favourite of adventurous hikers and campers, while in winter it is a magnet for backcountry skiers.

If you don’t have the time for hiking, I’d recommend at least a stop at the Rogers Pass Discovery Centre on your way through. Located in a replica of an old railway snowshed, the centre explains the incredible effort that is required to keep Highway 1 safe to drive in winter. Spoiler: it involves artillery weapons.

If waterfalls are your jam, you’ll be spoiled for choice in Revelstoke. There are numerous awesome (and easily accessible) waterfalls close to town to visit. Here are some top picks:

  • Sutherland Falls – Powerful and dramatic 13 metre waterfall dropping into a canyon
  • Begbie Falls – Short hike to a misty multi-layered waterfall
  • Moses Falls – Lesser known but impressive cascading waterfall

The Meadows in the Sky Parkway, Mount Revelstoke National Park

Revelstoke National Park may be one of the smallest National Parks in Western Canada but it is definitely one of the most accessible. The Meadows in the Sky Parkway is a 26km paved driving route that travels all the way from Highway 1 through cedar and hemlock forests into the alpine of Mount Revelstoke.

Alongside the way, there are viewing platforms and short hiking trails to explore. One of the first stops is the historic Nels Nelson ski jump, the only place in Canada where ski jumping records have been set.

The finale of the Meadows in the Sky Parkway is the summit hiking area, which is beautifully carpeted with wildflowers in summer.

For a short loop hike, head to the upper area (shuttle bus or 1km uphill hike) and take the trail to the historic firetower. Take in the impressive views of the valleys and mountains surrounding Mount Revelstoke.

The First Footsteps Trail shares local First Nation culture alongside more beautiful panoramas. Look carefully around the rocky areas; you may be lucky enough to see a tiny pika (an alpine mammal related to the rabbit).

With so many other incredible outdoor activities in Revelstoke, it seems only natural that there would be climbing opportunities in the area as well. There are currently around 20 climbing areas with 500 total pitches.

One of the most popular places to climb is Waterworld, located literally on the edge of Lake Revelstoke. This unique climbing spot is accessed from above via a very short approach (about five minutes). The wall itself is 90m high and offers adventurous and technical climbs ranging from 5.8 to 5.11.

A town bordered by water, Revelstoke hosts a number of great paddling spots. One of the most accessible (and picturesque) is Lake Revelstoke, just north of town. Actually a reservoir created by the Revelstoke Dam, this lake is an incredible 130km long.

We launched at Five Mile Boat Launch just beyond the Revelstoke Dam. Our short but rewarding paddle took us past a secret waterfall (not visible from the highway) and in sight of many snow capped mountains.

If you don’t have a kayak of your own, consider renting from Natural Escapes in town. For stand up paddleboards, check out Fine Line SUP . They have inflatable SUPs which are both easy to paddle and pack down into a reasonably sized bag for transport. Another option is to take a guided paddling tour with Natural Escapes.

Sampling local drinks

The people of Revelstoke love to be outside….and also to drink local brews. This has undoubtedly been enabled by Mt Begbie Brewing , which has been perfecting beers in Revelstoke since 1996. One of the owners has a PhD in nuclear physics and has found a way to utilise his scientific background in production. The swish new brewery building just outside of town offers tours and tastings as well as a sunny patio with views of namesake Mount Begbie.

The sign outside Monashee Spirits on Mackenzie Ave cries out ‘free gin!’ with both confidence and generosity. Thinking it would be rude to take them up on their offer, we accepted a free tasting of four remarkably different hand crafted spirits. We then watched as our unique cocktails were mixed with a flourish (and fresh botanicals).

Other locally crafted drinking options include Jones Distilling (located in a wonderfully renovated 100 year old school building) and the newly established Rumpus Beer Company.

Exploring downtown Revelstoke

As someone who isn’t much of a browser, I don’t often recommend the virtues of shopping in a destination. But Revelstoke is a little different, especially if you love (or even just like) outdoor gear.

Revelstoke’s core downtown area constitutes an easily walkable four block radius. Mount Begbie looms behind, occasionally visible on crosswalks.

Almost every store in Revelstoke’s core downtown area is an independently owned boutique store or restaurant of some kind.

There is a high concentration of outdoor clothing and equipment stores, with quite a variety within this singular category alone. Think specialist ski boot shops and bike repair stores trading alongside and more general (hiking/camping) outdoor offerings and more.

In the summer, you can combine browsing (and patio drinking) with live music. The Revelstoke Summer Street Fest presents free live outdoor music every night of the week from the end of June to late August.

Learning about Revelstoke’s history

Part of the traditional territory of four First Nation groups (Okanagan, Sinixt, Secwépemc and Ktunaxa), Revelstoke has only been known as such since 1886. The townsite was officially founded when the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) was built through the region and was once of the most prominent communities in the interior of British Columbia.

The Revelstoke Railway Museum gives background to the town’s significance as an important CPR hub. The connection to the railway still remains strong today.

In addition to exhibits and artifacts, the Railway Museum hosts a full size steam locomotive and railway carriage (open for exploring) inside the museum. A caboose and huge railway plow sit outside with other rolling stock.

We weren’t able to fit in a visit (have you seen the size of this list already?!) but the Revelstoke Museum and Archives features two floors full of exhibits and interactive displays in a 1920’s Post Office building. They also offer cemetery tours in the spring and summer, filled with interesting tales about Revelstoke pioneers.

Revelstoke Dam Visitor Centre

Revelstoke is home to one of the biggest and most powerful hydroelectric dams in Canada. Opened in 1984, the construction of the dam on the Columbia River created a huge 130 kilometre long reservoir now known as Lake Revelstoke.

The Revelstoke Dam Visitor Centre exhibits are surprisingly reflective, showcasing the brainstorming, construction and benefits of the project alongside the negative. The latter is explained within an engaging First Nation section that includes opinions and cultural insights from the Secwépemc, Okanagan and Ktunaxa First Nations.

The flagship attraction of the visitor centre is undoubtedly the lookout point at the top of the dam. Gazing out from 35 stories up (about 175m), you really get a sense of how massive this project was.

The Revelstoke Dam is located on Highway 23, a very short drive north of Revelstoke itself. To approach the dam property itself, you’ll need to show photo ID at the security booth. Bags and purses are not allowed into the visitor centre but there are free lockers you can use.

Soaking in hot springs

One of the more unique Revelstoke activities is the chance to soak in natural hot springs. There are a few different options within a short distance, with my favourites being Halfway, Halcyon and Nakusp. Despite all three being relatively closely located, each offers a unique hot spring experience.

Halcyon Hot Springs pool backdropped by Upper Arrow Lake and mountains

Halcyon Hot Springs

Used by local First Nation people for hundreds (if not thousands) of years, the springs at Halcyon are said to have the highest concentration of lithium in North America. The soaking experience here is calming, with soft spa music, sunbeds and a spectacular view over Upper Arrow Lake. There are two hot pools (one which is perfect for floating), a cold plunge pool and a huge seasonal swimming pool.

Halfway Hot Springs

Accessed via a fairly well maintained gravel road, Halfway offers one of the most natural hot springs settings in BC. A short downhill walk from the parking lot leads through the forest to a basic changing room and several small hot spring pools. There is another, cooler, pool located just around the corner. A fairly fast moving river is close by, ideal for a refreshing dip if you need one.

Nakusp Hot Springs

The furthest south of the hot springs mentioned here, Nakusp sits somewhere in the middle when it comes to experience. The pools are not as natural as Halfway Hot Springs and the facilities a little less elegant than Halcyon but the forest setting is wonderfully relaxing even so. The pool is separated into two, with the smaller section being hot and the other warm.

White water rafting

The Illecillewaet River is host to numerous Class II, III and IV rapids, perfect for white water rafting. We joined Apex Rafting for a three hour, 26km long trip down the Illecillewaet and loved every exhilarating second.

Not only we did get to do battle with huge waves and get very, very wet (always the sign of a successful rafting trip), but this adventure also offered the chance to see Mount Revelstoke National Park from a different perspective.

With the water level having a direct effect on the type of rapids on the river, each rafting trip down the Illecillewaet is a little different. During the spring melt, for example, the rapids are bigger and more frequent. Apex generally runs rafting trips from June to early September.

Apex Rafting take care of almost everything on the trip, from wetsuits, water shoes and transport to paddling instruction, snacks and photographs. There’s even a chance to buy drone footage of your paddling trip.

Tasting the local food scene

Small town eating this is not, with Revelstoke being the host of many incredibly modern, diverse and inventive eateries. It’s impossible to mention them all, but our favourites included:

For inventive cuisine accompanied by a huge choice of draught craft beer from across British Columbia, you have to go to  Craft Bierhaus for dinner. Designed to be shared, the dishes at Craft Bierhaus are seasonally focused and made from scratch with local ingredients and plenty of flair. Amazing!

Located on the ground floor of the Regent Hotel, 112 Restaurant offers one of the finest dining experiences in Revelstoke. Think high quality steaks cooked exactly to your liking (JR received his perfectly blue as desired, a rare occurrence), halibut, ahi tuna and more. An outstanding experience.

Offering big city food and style in a small town, the Quartermaster Eatery specialises in fresh, seasonal, local dishes with an emphasis on smoke and fire (slow cooking and grilling). I loved my ‘daily catch’ special (salmon) but was definitely tempted by the unusual vegetarian options.

Multiple dishes on table at Craft Bierhaus, view from above

Lighter options

If you’re craving sushi, I’d highly recommend a trip to Kawakubo Revelstoke. Service was quick, the sushi fresh and the decor atmospheric. There are plenty of vegetarian options if you don’t eat fish. The lunch specials are fab too.

A firm local favourite for breakfast and lunch is La Baguette , an organic bakery with two locations. The main, and original, location is on Victoria Road.

Another good option for lunch is the Taco Club , with affordable and authentic meat and vegetarian burritos, enchiladas and tacos (naturally). The Taco Club is also open for dinner.

For lunch on the go, check out Mountain Meals. Tasty sandwiches, salads, pies and more can all be boxed up and eaten on the trail, mountain or anywhere else you may fancy. Large choice of vegetarian options.

Skiing and snowboarding

Revelstoke is undoubtedly best known for skiing and snowboarding and rightfully so. The surrounding mountains receive more than ten metres of snow every year. But it’s not just the quantity that is impressive, but the quality too. Dry and fluffy powder is the name of the game in Revelstoke.

Despite being a fairly recent build (2007) , Revelstoke Mountain Resort has earned a formidable reputation for steep and deep terrain. With North America’s greatest amount of vertical (1,713 metres), the longest run here is an incredible 15.2km. Despite already offering over 3000 acres of terrain, the resort has ambitious plans for growth over the next ten years.

Beyond the resort, there are numerous heli and cat skiing operations poised to take experienced skiers and snowboarders into the surrounding Monashee and Selkirk mountains.

Snowmobiling

Using skidoos to access the best winter powder has been growing in popularity all over North America and Revelstoke is no exception. Revelstoke’s relatively moderate winter temperatures, easy accessibility, high snowfall and wide choice of riding areas make it an awesome place to snowmobile. There are both guiding and rental snowmobiling options.

And there we have it, 18 must do Revelstoke attractions and activities that prove why this small town should be top of your travel list! I’m already considering a return visit in winter to find some more must do cold weather activities…

Where to Stay in Revelstoke

We stayed at the incredibly central Regent Hotel on 1st Street. This stylish family owned and operated hotel (one of the oldest in Canada!) has large, well appointed rooms. Breakfast is included and features the best hotel buffet I’ve had anywhere in British Columbia.

Being located right downtown and walkable from so many places, the Regent Hotel’s location was ideal for us. Apex Rafting’s office is located downstairs, too, so it was especially convenient when we went rafting for the day.

Alternative Revelstoke accommodation options:

If being close to the ski slopes is important, you can’t get much better than the Sutton Place Hotel . Overlooking the Revelation Gondola at Revelstoke Mountain Resort, this hotel exemplifies high end ski-in, ski-out accommodation.

On a previous visit to Revelstoke, I stayed at Swiss Chalet Motel . It’s a 10-15 minute walk to downtown but the prices are exceptionally reasonable, especially if you’re visiting in a group.

A modernist approach to accommodation, the Cube Hotel offers compact rooms with shared (but private) shower rooms and kitchen. Close to downtown, this is a great option if you want to save money on accommodation for activities instead.

For camping, both Martha Creek Provincial Park and Blanket Creek Provincial Park are close to Revelstoke. If you don’t need many facilities, I’d recommend checking out Echo Lake. It requires some driving on gravel roads to get there but is completely free.

The Best Things to Do in Canada

15 Things to Do in Revelstoke

November 22, 2022 By Matthew G. Bailey Leave a Comment

Sharing is caring!

winter is a great time for many things to do in Revelstoke, BC.

Located roughly 4.5 hours west of Banff , Revelstoke is another Canadian mountain paradise. In fact, it is widely considered home to one of the best ski resorts in the country, is basically the halfway point between Calgary and Vancouver , and is home to so much outdoor adventure in both the summer and winter months.

While Revelstoke has always been on the bucket list for avid skiers and snowboarders, it has something to offer everyone and is equally beautiful throughout the year. From hiking the mountains or soaring down one of them on a roller coaster in the summer to skiing and dog sledding in the winter, we’ve got you covered in this ultimate guide to the best things to do in Revelstoke.

Skiing and snowboarding at Revelstoke Mountain Resort is one of the best things to do in Revelstoke.

Ski or Snowboard at Revelstoke Mountain Resort

We can’t start a “things to do in Revelstoke” guide without first mentioning its most famous attraction: Revelstoke Mountain Resort . After all, this stunning ski resort has the most vertical elevation in North America (5,620 feet) and a whopping 3,121 acres of terrain. The snow is almost always perfect, which is one of the main reasons it’s so popular and often has more snow than any other resort in Canada.

Although Revelstoke Mountain Resort is popular with people who already know how to ski or snowboard, that doesn’t mean you can’t visit as a newbie either. The resort does offer rental equipment, lessons, and enough “easier” runs to get you going.

Skiing is one of the best things to do in Revelstoke.

Go Heli-Skiing

If you’re an avid skier or snowboarder looking for the ultimate experience, jump on a helicopter and get transported into the backcountry for an unforgettable ski and snowboard experience on untouched powder.

While this could cause a permanent smile, it’s worth it when you find yourself gliding through fresh powder lap after lap. As you may have assumed by now, this is definitely the most expensive type of skiing and snowboarding you can do, with day trips starting at more than $1,000. However, heli-skiing really is a one-of-a-kind experience that you won’t forget.

Skiing and snowboarding at Revelstoke Mountain Resort.

Go Cat-Skiing

If heli-skiing is just too much but you’re still looking for something better than the typical runs at the resort, consider cat-skiing at Revelstoke Mountain Resort, which takes you into the backcountry near the resort. Since Revelstoke Mountain Resort is already one of the best places to ski in British Columbia, you can imagine how good it is when you jump into a cat and get driven into remote, untouched terrain with a group of people who are just as eager to hit the powder as you are. You can even take it one step further and sign up for the multi-day backcountry-lodge combo. Now that sounds like an adventure!

Go Dog-Sledding

If you’re one of those people who have always dreamed about being transported by a pack of dogs through forested snowy terrain, Revelstoke is a great place to be. Whether you opt for cozying up inside the sled bed or taking the reigns as a musher, dog sledding through the trails of Revelstoke is a very cool experience.

Not only will you get to feel the power, energy, and excitement of the dogs, but you’ll also learn about the history of dog sledding and the nitty-gritty of the sport itself. You’ll also get to know the dogs a little bit and discover the unique roles that each one plays.

Hiking is one of the best things to do in Revelstoke during the summer months.

Go Hiking in Mount Revelstoke National Park

If you’re visiting Revelstoke during the warmer months, don’t worry, there are so many things to do in Revelstoke during the summer as well. To start, hiking is an obvious attraction. After all, the area is surrounded by tall mountain peaks and some of the best trails can be found within Mount Revelstoke National Park. Whether you’re a beginner looking for something a little easier or a seasoned hiker looking for a challenge, there are lots of hiking trails in Revelstoke for everyone.

Beginners will be happy to find more than a dozen hikes they can tackle, with some popular options being the walk around Heather Lake and the Woods Loop Trail. There are also some intermediate trails that range in length from 1-6 kilometres. Then there are the more challenging trails, which can be upwards of 10 kilometres one-way with varying elevations. Some popular options include Jade Lake Pass, which climbs 428 metres at a total of 9 kilometres one-way, Lindmark Trail, which is a little shorter but almost twice the elevation at 982 metres, and the Summit Trail, which takes you all the way up to the summit of Mount Revelstoke, which is a whopping 1,353 metres of elevation. As you can imagine, the views are unbelievable.

Walk the Giant Cedars Boardwalk Trail

If you’re looking for something a little easier but still jaw-droppingly beautiful, consider a walk along the Giant Cedars Boardwalk Trail , which is just off the Trans-Canada Highway. This trail, which is only 0.3 kilometres long, offers the perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in a temperate rainforest with little challenge. It also features interpretive panels along the way, which gives you a chance to learn about the area while you admire it. It’s popular with everyone, including families and those with dogs.

things to do in Revelstoke

Take the Family to the Enchanted Forest

If you’re travelling through Revelstoke with young kids, you’ll probably want to stop at the Enchanted Forest . I still remember this place when I was a young kid. After all, it’s basically every child’s dream coming to life. The Enchanted Forest features whimsical cottages, mystical woodland creatures, and sparkly lights, creating a “real-life” fantasy world. It has come a long way since opening in the 1960s, but still remains one of those places where the kids will start shouting to pull over if you try to pass it. Take your kids on the path and let them spot familiar scenes and characters from various fables and legends, while maybe feeding your own nostalgia at the same time.

Check Out the 3 Valley Gap Ghost Town

Who doesn’t love visiting ghost towns?

Open seasonally from late spring until the early fall, the 3 Valley Gap Ghost Town will take you back in time, giving you a taste of the short-lived gold rush that occurred in the late 1800s. You’ll get to see what the pioneer days were like, including authentic shops, an old school house, a blacksmith shop, and other buildings from the era. If that isn’t enough, there’s also an antique automobile museum and a beautiful garden where you can truly stretch your legs and smell the roses.

Visit the Revelstoke Railway Museum

Another one of the top things to do in Revelstoke is the Revelstoke Railway Museum , which explains the importance of the Canadian Pacific Railway in Canada’s history through immersive, interactive exhibits. Visitors will get the chance to explore an old steam locomotive from the 1940s, tour the interior of a business car that was built in 1929, as well as check out a coal car, diesel locomotive, and road repair car. There are plenty of educational exhibits to learn more about the history and people involved in the railway and you’ll also learn about the many errors and atrocities that have been made along the way.

Pipe Mountain Roller Coaster.

Slide Down the Pipe Mountain Roller Coaster

Hiking up a mountain is a great experience but there’s nothing quite like soaring down a mountain on the Pipe Mountain Roller Coaster ! Back when we did our 150-day road trip across Canada in 2017, this was the only thing we managed to do during our short time in Revelstoke. All you do is jump in a gondola for a scenic ride to the top of the track, get settled into your individual roller coaster car, and then whiz down the 1.4-kilometre track while reaching speeds of up to 42 kilometres per hour. You’ll navigate turns, twists, and tunnels, all the while enjoying spectacular views of the mountains and forest. You also have a break, which means you get to control the speed. Whether you want to take it easy or see how fast you can go, this is a fun and exciting summer activity in Revelstoke.

Go Mountain Biking

Where there are mountains, there’s mountain biking, and during the summer months, this is one of the top things to do in Revelstoke. There are lots of trails to choose from, ranging from easy beginner trails to cross-country trails and crazy double black diamond downhill trails that are not for the faint of heart. You can bike right from downtown, book a shuttle, access alpine trails from the ski resort gondola, or book yourself on an exciting heli-biking adventure. Either way, Revelstoke is a great destination for biking.

If you’re not comfortable going alone, consider doing a guided mountain biking trip with Wandering Wheels . Local guides will take you out and ensure you have a good time without getting lost. They can also help you improve your skills as a mountain biker.

Revelstoke has some of the most beautiful scenery in Canada.

Soar Over Revelstoke in a Paraglider

Paragliding is the thrilling adventure you never knew you needed. However, once you get the feeling of soaring in the sky like a bird, you’ll likely want more. For those who don’t know, paragliding is essentially jumping off a mountain with a parachute wing attached to you, and of course, an experienced pilot if you’re a beginner. The wing helps you float and glide safely to the ground.

Revelstoke is a great place to go paragliding as it has the highest paraglide launch in North America at an elevation of 2,225 metres. Your experience starts with a gondola up the ski hill, followed by a ride up the mountain in a van. Once you jump off the mountain, you soar for at least 30 minutes before landing next to the Columbia River down in the valley below. If you want even more excitement, the pilot will do flips and other acrobatics or possibly let you fly the wing yourself.

Things to Do in Revelstoke, BC.

Hit the Water

Whether you’re looking to go paddleboarding, canoeing, kayaking, or white water rafting, Revelstoke has something for you. There are lots of lakes near Revelstoke, including Lake Revelstoke, the Arrow Lakes, and Williamson Lake. You can bring your own water vessel or rent canoes, kayaking, and paddleboards for a day out on the water.

If you’re looking for a thrill, on the other hand, consider whitewater rafting on the exciting Illecillewaet River. Surrounded by the stunning Selkirk Mountains, the Illecillewaet is a tributary of the Columbia River and is fed by the Illecillewaet Glacier in Glacier National Park. This makes the river not only beautiful to raft but also very fun, as it offers 26 kilometres of rafting with rapid levels hitting class 3+. You may even see black bears, mountain goats, beavers, bald eagles, and of course, snowcapped mountain peaks, wildflowers, and massive trees. If you’re looking for the biggest rapids, you’ll want to time your visit from mid-June to mid-July, but if you’re looking for something a bit calmer, later in the season is best.

Also R ead: Another great place for white water rafting is in nearby Golden, so make sure to check out our guide to the best things to do in Golden, BC !

Visit Some Waterfalls

Another great thing about the mountains is that there are usually some beautiful waterfalls as well. In Revelstoke, there are a number of beautiful waterfalls to see, including Sutherland Falls and Begbie Falls, just to name a couple. The waterfalls around Revelstoke are great to see during all seasons, but if you want maximum flow, spring and early summer are best. You’ll need to hike a little bit to see some of the waterfalls, but many are quite easy to find.

Sutherland Falls is a popular waterfall to witness. It’s nestled just off the highway near Blanket Creek, which is just a 20-minutes from town. The walk is only 2-4 minutes, which is significantly less time than what you’ll spend admiring this beautiful waterfall. This waterfall flows into a beautiful blue pool and out beyond through large rocks, lush moss, and massive tree stumps.

If you’re down for a longer hike, consider visiting Begbie Falls, which is located on Mt. Begbie. Begbie is accessible by a variety of routes, including a lovely trail walk that takes you past climbing walls and bike trails. You can even canoe across the lake toward the beach to begin the adventure. Many people take the Big Eddy Bluff Trail, which is 5 kilometres return, taking roughly 2 hours or more to complete. It has 240 metres of elevation gain, so it’s not that difficult, but be sure to look into the trail conditions before going. For example, in the spring, there’s often still too much snow for a normal hike.

Relax in the Hot Springs

When it comes to the best hot springs in BC , there are quite a few around Revelstoke. This is great news because whether you’re hiking in the summer or skiing in the winter, there’s nothing quite like soothing your muscles in a natural hot spring.

Hot springs are wonderful at soothing sore muscles, minimizing inflammation, or just being straight-up relaxing and enjoyable, which is why they are definitely one of the top things to do in Revelstoke. Some of the nearby options include Canyon Hot Springs, which is only 30-minutes from Revelstoke and home to two mineral pools. There’s also Halfway Hot Springs, which is perched on the side of the river and offers a more natural feel. In fact, the only way to access them in the winter is by snowshoeing! Then there’s Halcyon Hot Springs, which is probably the most popular hot spring in the area. It’s a bit further away but offers the full resort experience, the exact opposite of Halfway Hot Springs.

The cat's out of the bag: Revelstoke is one of the best ski resorts in Canada . For a while, this BC mountain town managed to stay under the radar, keeping its incredible snow conditions, moderate temperatures, and stunning scenery a relatively well-kept secret. However, in recent years, adventurers have been flocking to Revy in summer and winter alike.

View over Revelstoke, B.C.

There are plenty of awesome things to do year-round, the best of which we've listed for you here. Known as a must-visit destination for avid skiers and snowboarders, the magic of the mountain is not to be missed in the winter months. But there are also lots of activities in Revelstoke that don't require a ski or snowboard, like exploring the local trails via dog sled or relaxing in a nearby hot spring.

Come summer, camping and hiking are the most popular things to do. There are several campgrounds in Revelstoke and tons of different trails to choose from, with a wide selection catering to all levels of ability and experience. Whether you're walking a short boardwalk loop or summiting a mountain, there's nothing better than spending time immersed in nature.

In between the incredible array of outdoor activities, Revelstoke also has some cool man-made attractions. Have you ever visited a gold rush era ghost town? How about taking a tour in a magical forest? You'll be surprised at just how many things there are to do in and around this relatively small mountain town.

Plan your trip with our list of the top things to do in Revelstoke.

1. Ski or Snowboard at Revelstoke Mountain Resort

Top of the gondola at Revelstoke Mountain Resort

Let's get the obvious out of the way: if you are in Revy during the winter months and aren't skiing or snowboarding at Revelstoke Mountain Resort , then you need to seriously reconsider your plans.

Home to the most vertical elevation in North America (a whopping 5,620 feet ), you'll get major bang for your buck as you ski lap after lap on the resort's 3,121 acres of terrain . The snow is almost always perfect, and chances are good you'll get lots of it; in fact upwards of 30 feet a year fall here on average. In other word, it's pretty much a dream destination for a skier or snowboarder.

If you've never skied or snowboarded in your life, don't count yourself out. Let a pro help you pick out the right rental equipment, register for a lesson at the resort's Snow School, and learn the ropes on one of BC's finest mountains.

Fair warning: any resort you ski in the future will have big shoes (ski boots?) to fill!

Cat skiing in Revelstoke

Let's say you're not new to skiing. Let's say the ski and snowboarding scene is exactly what brought you to Revelstoke in the first place, and you are eager as can be to experience the fluffy pow firsthand.

If that sounds like you, then may we suggest skipping the lift lines and making your own fresh tracks on a cat skiing trip?

To be sure, a backcountry cat skiing trip is more expensive than a day at the resort, but if this is an item on your bucket list, there's arguably no better place to do it than Revelstoke.

Swapping the chair lift for a cat ski means you'll get to access remote, untouched terrain with a small group of like-minded shredders. With such great snow - in both quantity and quality - it will be a day you'll never forget. (Actually, you can make it several days you'll never forget if you book a cat-skiing, backcountry-lodge combo.)

Different cat skiing operators are geared to different types of adventures and skill levels - do your research and book a tour that best suits your needs.

Heli-skiing in Revelstoke

If cat skiing is one level up from resort skiing, then we'd say heli-skiing is one level up from cat skiing.

Shuffling into a helicopter and being whisked deep into the backcountry is the creme de la creme of ski or snowboard experiences. Packing in lap after lap of deep, glorious powder will leave you with sore legs and a permanent grin pasted to your face. If you're ready to go big or go home in Revelstoke, then heli-skiing is a no-brainer.

Make no bones about it: heli-skiing is expensive. Running a helicopter isn't cheap, so expect to drop a pretty penny to partake in this adventure. Day trips start at over $1,000 (in Canadian currency) per day.

Having said that, you'll be hard-pressed to find a better ski area than the Revelstoke backcountry. If you've always wanted to try heli-skiing, this is definitely the place to do it.

Giant Cedars Boardwalk Trail

Not all Revelstoke activities require nerves of steel. The Giant Cedars Boardwalk Trail offers the perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in the temperate rainforest in an easy, accessible way. Located just off the highway, the loop trail is only 0.3 kilometers long (just shy of 0.2 miles), but it features awe-inspiring giant cedars the entire way.

The well-maintained trail features interpretive panels along the path, so you can learn more about your surroundings as you make your way through the forest.

Kids love checking out this trail, and on-leash dogs are welcome, too. You can extend your visit by packing snacks and enjoying them at the picnic area before or after your walk.

If you're passing through the area, this is a fun place to visit to stretch out your legs and enjoy some one-on-one time with Mother Nature.

Enchanted Forest

Just outside of Revelstoke, the Enchanted Forest is every child's dream come to life. Whimsical cottages, mystical woodland creatures, and sparkly lights galore - it's a real-life fairy tale.

The story behind the Enchanted Forest is as charming as the attraction itself: in the 1950s, a retired couple took it upon themselves to craft a magical getaway in the woods. Since the Enchanted Forest opened to the public in the 1960s, it has undergone much growth and development, but the winsome nature of the place remains the same.

Children will love romping through the woods, spotting familiar scenes and characters from their favorite fables and legends - and adults will likely feel a pang of nostalgia, too. This is a sweet family activity that is certainly out of the ordinary, in the best of ways.

Zip line

If you've had enough of fairy tales and cute homes in the woods and are looking for a bit of adventure, walk right next door from the Enchanted Forest to the SkyTrek Adventure Park . Here, you'll find a treetop rope and obstacle course suspended up to 40 feet off the ground. Each trip is escorted by fun-loving guides.

Kids are catered to here as well. A specific kids' course (not quite as high in the air!) is also available. To enjoy this adventure, you need to be five years old.

All that high-wire adventure may leave you craving more fun, and if that's the case, sign up for the Sky Lines Zip wire ride. It's designed so you race against your partner, either in a traditional zipline-style harness or on a skateboard or even a GT Snow Racer.

Dog sledding

It's simple math: cute energetic dogs + a magical winter wonderland = the perfect recipe for an unforgettable excursion.

Dog sledding through the trails of Revelstoke is an insanely cool experience. Whether you're nestled in the cozy sled and enjoying the ride or trying your hand as a musher, feeling the energy of the dogs in such a gorgeous setting is simply spectacular.

In addition to getting the chance to tour Revelstoke's scenic forests and trails, you'll get to learn about the history of dog sledding and the finer details of the sport. You'll also become acquainted with your team of Alaskan racing huskies, getting to know them by name and discovering the unique role each dog plays.

There's no real skill required to join a dog sled tour - you just have to bring a sense of adventure and some warm clothes.

Mount Revelstoke National Park

No snow? No problem. Even if you aren't visiting Revelstoke in the winter, there are still lots of ways to enjoy the beauty of the backcountry - like hiking, for instance.

Mount Revelstoke National Park is the optimal setting for a hike, featuring a wide range of trails up mountains, through forests, and into subalpine meadows in full bloom.

For beginners looking for something scenic but simple, there are more than a dozen hikes rated easy. Some, like the walk around Heather Lake , can be done in less than 15 minutes. Others, like the Inspiration Woods loop trail, take closer to an hour.

There are five intermediate trails, ranging in length from one kilometer to six kilometers . These trails feature slightly trickier terrain and elevation gains in the 100- to 200-meter range .

Looking for a bigger challenge? Jade Lakes is a nine-kilometer trail (one way) that will lead you over the Jade Lake Pass, climbing 428 meters . At eight kilometers (one way), Lindmark is a slightly shorter trail but it covers more than twice as much elevation, totaling 982 meters . The Summit trail takes you up to the summit of Mount Revelstoke, covering 10 kilometers each way as you gain 1,353 meters in elevation.

3 Valley Gap Ghost Town

Open seasonally from late spring to early fall, the 3 Valley Gap Ghost Town is a bona fide blast from the past. The short-lived gold rush in the late 1800s left a few ghost towns in its wake, including this one.

A visit to 3 Valley Gap Ghost Town will take you back to the pioneer days, with authentic shops and buildings from the era. You can check out the old school house or peek inside the blacksmith shop - or even hop aboard the ghost train.

Other attractions at 3 Valley Gap include an antique automobile museum and a lovely garden - perfect for stretching your legs and getting some fresh air.

Revelstoke Railway Museum

The Canadian Pacific Railway plays a major role in Canada's history - and one of the museums that best tells the story of the railway is situated right here in Revelstoke.

Since 1993, the Revelstoke Railway Museum has offered visitors the chance to discover the history of the railway through immersive, interactive exhibits. Museum-goers can explore an old steam locomotive from the 1940s and tour the interior of a business car that was built in 1929. There are even more exhibits if you head outdoors, including a coal car, diesel locomotive, and road repair car.

While visitors will get hands-on interaction with the machinery, they'll also get to wander the educational exhibits to learn more about the history and the people involved with the railway. The history of the Canadian Pacific Railway isn't all glitz and glamor: for instance, Chinese workers played a crucial role in the railway's development, but were subjected to some horrific conditions and shameful treatment.

As fun as it is to see the trains up close, it is equally important to learn from the errors of the past. The Revelstoke Railway Museum provides a balanced experience that is approachable and informative, no matter how old you are.

Halcyon Hot Springs

There's nothing cozier than slipping into a hot spring or pool, especially after a day spent playing in the snow. Revelstoke just so happens to have several hot springs in the surrounding area, making this luxurious activity surprisingly accessible.

Hot springs aren't just relaxing; they offer fantastic benefits like soothing sore muscles and minimizing inflammation. In other words, this is a must-do activity after a day of adventure.

Canyon Hot Springs is only half an hour from Revelstoke and features two mineral pools surrounded by trees - perfect for a serene swim.

Halfway Hot Springs offers a natural take on the hot spring experience. Perched on the side of the river, these hot springs are the real deal, but they're not so easy to get to. The bad news is that you cannot access them by car in the winter; the good news is that the trip is doable by snowshoe!

Finally, Halcyon Hot Springs is one of the most popular in the area. Just over an hour south of Revelstoke, this is the place to visit for the full resort experience.

Pipe Mountain Roller Coaster

Take it from us: Revelstoke's mountain roller coaster is ridiculously fun. This summer activity involves riding the gondola to the top of the track, then settling into your individual roller coaster car and whizzing down the 1.4-kilometer track.

You'll clock some serious speeds, reaching up to 42 kilometers per hour as you navigate twists, turns, and tunnels. Not feeling the need for speed? The brake allows you to control your speed if you prefer to take it easy.

Solo riders need to be at least eight years old, but kids between the ages of three to 12 can join their parents as passengers. Riders of all ages are encouraged to hoot and holler the entire way down.

Meadows in the Sky Parkway

The entire Revelstoke area is set in some of Canada's most magical scenery, and none more beautiful than the area along the Meadows in the Sky Parkway .

This well-maintained 26-kilometer route (one way) takes you high to wide-open alpine meadows and beautiful Balsam Lake. From the parking area, a shuttle bus will take you to the top, where you'll find a restored fire tower. Pack your walking shoes. Several short and longer trails leave from this area.

The best time to take the drive is in mid to late July when you'll see a carpet of colorful wildflowers. Note that the Meadows in the Sky Parkway is located in Mount Revelstoke National Park and a fee is charged to access the route. Also, sadly for Fido, dogs are not allowed anywhere in the park, even in vehicles.

15 Things to do in Revelstoke in the Summer

The entire time I was in Revelstoke I kept thinking: “This place would be waaaay busier if it was closer to a big city…BUT it’s so awesome that it’s not.” Revelstoke, British Columbia is a small town in between big mountain ranges. It’s got all kinds of outdoor adventures, a vibrant downtown with lots to do, and a thriving restaurant and craft liquor scene. It’s compact enough to see in a weekend but has enough stuff to want to make you visit again. What’s not to love?

In the last few years I’ve taken two trips to Revelstoke and was surprised at how much I fell in love with the town. (It even made my list of the best weekend getaways from Vancouver and the best small towns in Canada for outdoor adventures .) Honestly, I even looked at real estate listings (just for fun… I think?)

I had a pretty busy schedule on both of my trips to Revelstoke and did A LOT but I still didn’t manage to see everything. So here’s my big list of 15 things to do in Revelstoke in the summer. I’ve done most of these things but a few will have to wait until next time. (Because there’s definitely going to be a next time!)

Hey there: Thanks so much to Tourism Revelstoke for hosting me in Revelstoke. All opinions in this post are my own. Some of the links in this post are affiliate links, which means I earn a small commission at no extra cost to you if you make a purchase. Thanks for supporting my website! -Taryn

Revelstoke Basics

What’s with the name?  Disappointingly, Revelstoke’s name doesn’t have anything to do with stoking revelry. When the railway across Canada was being built in the 1880s, the Canadian Pacific Railway was nearly bankrupt. Lord Revelstoke, a British banker, invested in the railway and saved the company. So they named the town after him! (Previously, the town was called Farwell after a local man who settled in the area.) Revelstoke has lots of nicknames including “Revy”, “The Stoke” and “Revelstuck” since winter snows can close the roads out of town.

Location: Revelstoke is located in eastern British Columbia, Canada. It’s on the banks of the Columbia River at 480m above sea level. Revelstoke is in a river valley between the Monashee and Selkirk Mountain ranges. The Rocky Mountains are about 100km to the east. Revelstoke is in the traditional territory of the Ktunaxa, Secwepemc, Sinixt, and Okanagan First Nations.

How to Get to Revelstoke: Revelstoke is on highway 1. It’s a 6-hour drive from Vancouver in the west or 4.5 hours from Calgary in the east. Revelstoke has an airport, but it only has charter flights. The closest major airport is in Kelowna where you can get a shuttle van to Revelstoke that takes about 2.5 hours. Revelstoke also makes a great stop on a road trip across Canada .

Revelstoke Weather: Revelstoke has a mountain climate.  Summer temperatures are typically highs of 23-25C and lows of 11C. July and August are the driest months, but Revelstoke has a wetter climate than the nearby Rocky Mountains so it can still have some rainy days in summer.

Population: Officially, Revelstoke has a population of about 7,000 people. However, locals are proud to tell you that cell phone usage data shows that the town has about 14,000 residents in winter.

Revelstoke Map: I made a custom Revelstoke google map for you that includes every single place I mentioned in this post. Click on it to zoom in.

Summer Things to do in Revelstoke

Drive the meadows in the sky parkway.

This scenic Mountains in the Sky Parkway inside Mount Revelstoke National Park provides great views with little effort. In the summer, the roadsides and summit area are carpeted with wildflowers. The best time to see the flowers is late July and early August. Be sure to stop at the roadside pullouts for great views of Revelstoke and the surrounding mountains.

Wildflowers along the Meadows in the Sky Parkway in Mount Revelstoke National Park

The road climbs 1,365m over 26km of switchbacks to Balsam Lake at 1,835m. From here you can take a free shuttle bus to the summit, or hike the 1-kilometre-long Upper Summit Trail . At the top, there are several viewpoints, plus a historic fire lookout. For the best wildflower displays, visit in mid-August. The flowers are spectacular!

Soak in Hot Springs

Western Canada is home to tons of natural hot springs. A few of them are a couple hours drive from Revelstoke. On my recent trip, I soaked in Halfway River Hot Springs . It’s an undeveloped hot spring in a beautiful natural setting. To get there you need to drive 11km up a logging road, then hike 1km down a steep trail. The hot springs are next to a rushing river in gorgeous rock-lined pools.

Halfway Hot Springs near Revelstoke, BC

We also popped in to Halcyon Hot Springs , a spa-like springs, but didn’t have time to go in the pools. There are also a few others hots springs near Revelstoke that I haven’t had a chance to visit yet: Canyon Hot Springs , Crazy Creek Hot Pools , and Nakusp Hot Springs . (I’ve got a whole post about all the hot springs in Canada if you want to visit more springs.)

Halcyon Hot Springs near Revelstoke, BC

If you’re on a budget or don’t have time to drive to a hot spring, head to the Revelstoke Aquatic Centre . It was closed for annual maintenance when I was there, but it looks giant! It has a huge pool, a hot tub, a water slide, and a lazy river.

Go for a Hike

On my most recent visit, I dedicated a week to hiking near Revelstoke. I managed to fit in over a dozen hikes from easy to challenging. I walked trails near town, and drove to Revelstoke Mountain Resort, Mount Revelstoke National Park , and Glacier National Park. If you want all the insider info about the hiking in Revelstoke, I’ve got a whole post for you! Check out my guide to the best hikes in Revelstoke .

Experience the Alpine on the Revelstoke Mountain Resort Gondola

Revelstoke Mountain Resort has the highest vertical drop of any ski resort in North America, at 1,713m. In the summer, you can ride their gondolas up the side of Mount Mackenzie for great views and lift-accessed hiking. Be sure to check out the Glacier View and Revelstoke View lookouts near the top of the Revelation Gondola. The Revelstoke View lookout has an especially great view of the town. I recommend hiking further up the mountain for even better views. All the details are in my guide to the best hikes in Revelstoke .

Ride the Pipe Mountain Coaster

Opened in 2016, the Pipe Mountain Coaster is consistently rated as the #1 thing to do in Revelstoke. I’d seen photos of it online, but it wasn’t until I rode it, that I truly understood what it was all about. In short: it’s a rollercoaster! You sit strapped inside a one-person cart attached to a monorail-like track. (Hence the “pipe” in the name.) When it’s your turn, you are launched down the 1.2km long track. You can control your speed with an onboard brake, but if you want to go fast, the carts top out at 42km/h! The track has tons of twists and turns so it feels a bit like a wild mouse style coaster. At one point, I even got a little bit of air out of my seat!

The Pipe Coaster is located at Revelstoke Mountain Resort, just south of town. Tickets are $25/ride and each ride takes about 3 minutes.

Chase Waterfalls

As you might know, waterfalls are my favourite . There are three waterfalls near Revelstoke worth seeing, especially after it rains when there’s lots of runoff. You’ll need to hike a few minutes to get to each waterfall, but all three are an easy walk. Find the details in my guide to the best hikes in Revelstoke .

Discover Revelstoke’s History

The town of Revelstoke has an interesting history, beginning in the 1880s with the arrival of the Canadian Pacific Railway. When I was in Revelstoke I went on a fabulous historical walking tour with Cathy from the Revelstoke Museum. She told us about Revelstoke’s past as the two rival towns of Farwell and Revelstoke. (Spoiler: Revelstoke won!) It was one of the most interesting things I did in Revelstoke.

Chubby Funsters in Revelstoke

If you don’t have time to take a tour, walk around Revelstoke’s downtown on your own. There are lots ofb heritage buildings to see, many of which have informative plaques. Be sure to venture a bit north of downtown to see the courthouse, built in 1912. History buffs should also check out the Revelstoke Museum and Archives or the Revelstoke Railway Museum . They’re both on my list for my next visit to Revelstoke.

Go Mountain Biking

In the summer months, mountain biking is one of the most popular things to do in Revelstoke. And that’s because Revelstoke is a world-famous mountain biking destination. There are tons of trails in a few areas around town. The trails range from easy beginner cross country trails to gnarly double black diamond downhill trails. You can bike right from downtown, set up a shuttle, access alpine trails from the ski resort gondola, or book a heli-biking adventure.

A woman on a mountain bike in Revelstoke

On my first trip to Revelstoke, I explored the easy trails at Mount Macpherson with Matt and Connor from Wandering Wheels . It was great to have local guides show us the trails. Plus they helped me improve my admittedly very mediocre mountain bike skills. (I got quite a few bruises from some epic crashes though!)

On my second trip, my husband and I explored the trails on our own, using the Revelstoke Mountain Bike map and the Trailforks app. I’m still a beginner mountain biker, but my husband Greg and my Dad are not. They rode the spectacular trails alpine Frisby Ridge route just north of town and the brand new lift-accessed Fifty Six Twenty Trail at the Revelstoke Mountain Resort ski hill. It descends 5,620 feet! That’s over 1,700m! They said both were incredible.

Soar Above Town in a Paraglider

Until going to Revelstoke, I honestly had never thought about going paragliding. If you aren’t sure what paragliding is, you’re not alone. Basically, it’s jumping off a tall mountain with a parachute wing attached to you. You use the wing to float and glide safely down to the ground. Beginners get strapped to an experienced pilot for a tandem paragliding flight.

Paragliding in Revelstoke, BC

Revelstoke has the highest paraglide launch in North America at an elevation of 2,225m! You take a gondola up the ski hill, then climb into a van to go even higher up the mountain. After take-off, you soar for at least 30 minutes before landing next to the Columbia River down in the valley below. If you want, the pilot will do flips and other acrobatics. You might even get to fly the wing yourself! I expected the whole thing to be scary, and while it was a bit nerve-wracking at first, mostly it was quite peaceful. And the views were incredible!

However, if you have a weak stomach like me, you may want to take some anti-nausea meds beforehand. Real talk: I felt a bit nauseous during the flight, and it got worse as we began to land. I think if I had taken some anti-nausea meds, I wouldn’t have had an issue and others in my group didn’t feel sick at all.

Paraglider landing in Revelstoke, BC

To book a trip, get in touch with Revelstoke Paragliding . I flew with Brad, who was amazing! He made sure I felt safe, let me fly the wing for a long time and tailored the flight to minimize my nausea. I definitely recommend him!

Go Paddling

There are lots of lakes near Revelstoke including Lake Revelstoke, the Arrow Lakes, and Williamson Lake. You can rent canoes, kayaks, and paddleboards to get out on the water.

Stand Up Paddleboarding on Lake Revelstoke

Raft Some Whitewater

If you are more adventurous, sign up for a whitewater rafting trip on the raging Illecillewaet River. And if that sounds too hardcore, you can float mellow sections of the Columbia River instead.

Explore BC’s Tallest Treehouse

Head to the Enchanted Forest 25 minutes west of Revelstoke to experience BC’s Tallest Treehouse. I’ve seen photos of this on Instagram, but sadly I’ve never had time to stop. It looks incredible. The treehouse is part of a larger fairytale forest experience aimed at children that includes over 350 folk art figurines and their homes. The whole thing is set in a magical green rainforest of old-growth cedars.

For a small town, Revelstoke has a surprisingly large number of craft breweries and distilleries. There is a distillery and two breweries in town! They all focus on local ingredients, but each has its own flair.

As a gin-lover, I was really excited to try the award-winning gin at Monashee Spirits . It might just be my new favourite craft gin! We chatted with Josh, the owner who told us his story. He started as a welder and got interested in distilling when someone asked him to help weld a backyard still. He’s been perfecting his gin ever since. His tasting room has a full bar with a fun cocktail menu. If you’re looking for drinks in Revelstoke, this is THE spot.

Monashee Distilling in Revelstoke, BC

Rumpus Beer Company just opened in 2019. We chatted with Fred, the founder about how he had wanted to open a microbrewery for over a decade. We tasted a flight of all of his beers and I have to admit that while I’m not a huge beer drinker, I was really impressed. The beers at Rumpus are designed to be sophisticated and nuanced, but still easy to drink. The way Fred explained it is that Revelstoke is a town where you go play outside in the mountains with your friends all day, and afterward all you want to do is go drink a couple of beers in a fun atmosphere. He wants his beers to match that Revelstoke attitude. I think he’s definitely hit the mark.

Rumpus Brewing in Revelstoke, BC

I didn’t have time to visit the original craft brewery in Revelstoke, Mt. Begbie Brewing . It’s been around since 1996 and has won tons of craft beer awards. They run tours and have a tasting room where you can grab a pint or fill your growler.

Go Shopping

Revelstoke’s compact downtown is home to lots of fun shops. If you need outdoor equipment, there are lots of bike shops and sports stores. Check out the boutiques for handmade and local goods. I didn’t have much time to shop in Revelstoke, but I did do some window shopping. Lovemaking Designs has some really cool screen printed designs and jewelry.

If you visit on a Saturday, don’t miss the Revelstoke Farmer’s Market in Grizzly Plaza right downtown. There are lots of fresh fruits and vegetables from local farmers. You can also find baked goods, jams, honey, plants, knitting, and crafts.

Eat Amazing Food

Revelstoke isn’t known as a foodie destination… yet! It definitely should be since almost everything I ate in Revelstoke was amazing. Obviously, I haven’t had time to try every single restaurant in Revelstoke, but here are a few of my picks:

Fine Dining: 112 Restaurant & Lounge – An upscale restaurant at The Regent Hotel, the 112 has classics like steak and West Coast-style fare like salmon and halibut. The chef also moonlights as a tandem paragliding pilot (hi Brad!), so you know the dishes will have an adventurous flair.

112 Restaurant in Revelstoke

Casual Comfort Food: Old School Eatery – Located in an old elementary school, they describe themselves as serving old school classics with a new school twist. I had a fried chicken sandwich with a delicious Korean-style sauce that was better than anything I’ve had in the big city. We like this place so much that we went twice on our most recent trip. Brunch on the weekends is also amazing.

Pub for Apres Hiking/Mountain Biking/Anything: Big Eddy Pub – Located across the river from town, you can literally roll right downhill from the Mount Macpherson mountain bike trails into the pub. It’s a popular place with locals and outdoorsy visitors and they won’t bat an eye if you show up covered in mud.

Funky Mexican: Taco Club – A fun spot right downtown serving up giant burritos and tasty tacos. They also have killer margaritas. Their patio is a great spot for people watching too.

Bakery Cafe: The Modern Bakeshop Cafe – Delicious savoury and sweet baked goods, coffee, and sandwiches right downtown. Their veggie focaccia is amazing and makes a great hiking lunch.

Sandwiches: La Baguette – This bakery has amazing sandwiches on homemade bread. They have a location near downtown and one at Revelstoke Mountain Resort. Another great option for a hiking lunch.

Hipster Coffee: Dose Coffee   – A fun and funky hipster-style coffee shop with great espresso based drinks. They have great breakfast too.

Where to Stay in Revelstoke

There are lots of options for accommodation in Revelstoke. Here a few of my Revelstoke hotel recommendations:

Upscale Hotel: The Regent – I stayed at this family-run hotel during my trip to Revelstoke. It has a great location downtown. Over the years the owners have renovated a few different adjacent heritage buildings to create a modern, yet classic building. Breakfast is also included and it was one of the better hotel breakfasts I’ve had in North America.

Boutique Hotel: The Explorer’s Society Hotel – We learned about this hotel on our heritage walking tour of downtown. Built in 1911, this historic brick building was recently restored and converted into a hotel. The entire space is modern yet outdoorsy, with lots of exposed brick and weathered wood. My parents stayed here recently and loved it. My dad loved the lounge area for watching the hockey game and my mom’s favourite part was the rooftop patio.

Explorers Society Hotel in Revelstoke

Budget Hotel: The Cube Hotel – Part hotel, part hostel, the Cube Hotel has a stand-out cubist exterior. It also has lots of adventure-friendly features on the inside like a gear drying room, a lounge, and a shared kitchen so you can cook your own dinner.

Cabins: Boulder Mountain Resort – These cabins just outside of town are super cute with a cozy tiny-house vibe. But they still have full sized kitchens, a king-size bed and a barbecue. I spent a few nights here recently and was really impressed.

Camping – There are lots of places to camp in Revelstoke. In town you can stay at a few privately run campgrounds: Williamson Lake Campground , Revelstoke KOA Campgrounds and Cabins , or Lamplighter Campground . The Snowforest Campground at Mount Revelstoke National Park just opened in 2020 and I was lukcy enough to spend a few nights there. It has the nicest bathroom/shower building of any campground I’ve ever been to! If you’d rather stay in a provincial park, Blanket Creek and Martha Creek Provincial Parks are only a 20-30 minute drive away.

So there you have it: 15 things to do in Revelstoke in summer. I think I’ll have to go back in the winter to make another “things to do in Revelstoke” list. I hear the snow is epic! What’s your favourite Revelstoke activity? Tell me in the comments.

For clarification, halfway river hot springs are 4 hours away from from Revy and you need to take a ferry to get there. I got excited for a second and then realized how far they are. Definitely more than a “short drive” away.

Hi Ernie. I'm not sure why Google maps says it's a 4 hour drive. It's about 1.5 hours, depending on when you catch the ferry. The ferry ride is short, and very scenic. While the hot springs may not be right in town, lots of Revelstoke locals love to visit them.

21 Things To Do In Revelstoke in the Summer

things-to-do-in-revelstoke

Revelstoke is easily one of our favorite places in all of Canada. It’s a small BC town near the Selkirk Mountains and Glacier National Park, famed worldwide for its epic powder in the winter, and great mountain biking in the summer.

Due to its remote location off Trans Canada and near Rogers Pass, Revelstoke is not a busy Canadian mountain town like Banff. Instead, it is a renowned ski destination, which has put it on the map for winter enthusiasts. However, that’s not to say that Revelstoke doesn’t have much to offer visitors in summer.

Most people will visit Revelstoke while on an epic Western Canada road trip connecting Vancouver to Calgary. From the highway, it’s easy to skip over Revelstoke without even noticing it’s there. However, we urge you not to do this as Revelstoke is well worth visiting . Consider staying a few days to enjoy the quiet, small-town mountain vibes that make up the town. Wondering what things to do in Revelstoke in the summer? We have you covered.

Where is Revelstoke?

Valley View in Revelstoke

Revelstoke is a small town in southeastern BC situated on the banks of the Columbia River south of the Revelstoke Dam. It’s nestled in between the Selkirk Mountains and Glacier National Park.

The closest cities are Kamloops and Kelowna , but many people stop in Revelstoke while on a Western Canada road trip between Calgary and Vancouver on the ultimate Western Canada road trip . (Here are our favorite stops from Calgary to Revelstoke ) .

A little history…

The City of Revelstoke was founded in the 1880s when the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) was built. At its onset, the town relied heavily on mining first and then the railway; both of these beginnings are still apparent when strolling through town today. It’s estimated that over $3,000,000 in gold was mined in Revelstoke.

You may have noticed the name is a little interesting, so where did Revelstoke come from? Revelstoke took its name in honour of Lord Revelstoke , Edward Charles Baring of Devon in England. He was head of the London banking house of Baring Brokers and his timely financial assistance saved the Canadian Pacific Railway Company from going bankrupt in 1885 and ensured the completion of the transcontinental railway.

Though Revelstoke was built on mining and railway, it’s now most well known for its epic powder dumps at Revelstoke Mountain Resort and mountain biking in the summer. Though you can still see plenty of traces of its early days when you visit, as many original buildings from the early 1900s are still present (psst – like the post office!).

Things To Do in Revelstoke in the Summer

Stroll around downtown revy.

downtown revelstoke

Downtown Revelstoke is a super cute, small, and charming town that doesn’t see huge crowds like Whistler or Downtown Banff. It won’t take you long to stroll up and down MacKenzie Ave! There are some nice outdoor and boutique shops to wander into in Revy. Grab a baked good and coffee at The Modern Bakeshop or Dose and take some time for a snowy stroll.

Grab a Coffee at Dose

dose coffee

Before you head out for the day, you’ll need to fuel up. My favorite place to grab a coffee and baked treat is Dose. They also make great lunch dishes!

Soak in a Hot Spring

Halcyon Hot Springs

A key part of Kootenay culture is to soak in a natural hot spring or two. Doing this is exceptionally lovely on a cool summer day. Pack a bathing suit and a beer (remember to Leave No Trace), and get ready to soak your muscles.

The Halfway River Hot Springs is accessible by a logging road and steep trail and is your most “bask to basic” natural hot spring. South of Revy on Highway 23 is the Halcyon Hot Springs that overlook Upper Arrow Lake. Other options are Crazy Creek Hot Pools and Canyon Hot Springs!

Walk the Greenbelt

The Greenbelt is a local walking trail in Revelstoke that offers enchanting vistas of the valley, mountains, and wildlife and embodies the serene ambiance of the small town. The Illecillewaet Greenbelt Path is conveniently accessible by foot from almost anywhere in town.

Its gentle terrain makes it a perfect choice for a tranquil, easy stroll in the summer. If you have a pair of cross-country skis, you can also Nordic ski here for free. You’ll be accompanied by the awe-inspiring Columbia River Gorge throughout the entire walk. Majestic mountains such as Mt. Cartier and Big Eddy surround you, making the scenery truly magical.

Paddleboard on Echo Lake

Echo Lake in Revelstoke

One of the best things to do in Revelstoke is paddle on the lakes! One of our favorite afternoons in Revy this past summer was when we went to Echo Lake for a paddle. This tiny lake is somewhat of a local secret. It’s warmer than other lakes in Canada and charming for a swim! If you’re itching to camp, there are a few places to pitch a tent.

Visit the 3 Valley Gap Ghost Town

3 Valley Gap Ghost Town

Step into history at the 3 Valley Gap Heritage Ghost Town. In the 1800s, the prospect of gold brought thousands of fortune seekers to this part of British Columbia. Many left penniless, but they left behind abandoned buildings, which you can still see today. Entrance costs $16, and with that you get access to 25 historic buildings, the auto museum, and the railway roundhouse.

Go Mountain Biking

Natasha Mountain Biking In Revelstoke

Revelstoke is one of the best places in British Columbia to go mountain biking in the summer. There are some fantastic mountain bike trails in Revelstoke. We enjoyed a full day exploring the area on our bikes and wish we could have ridden longer.

We usually mountain bike in Canmore, and there is just something so beautiful about riding in the lush forests of British Columbia. Some recommended trails are the Upper and Lower Mount Macpherson Trails, Martha Creek, and Boulder Mountain.

  • Mount Macpherson: This area has cross-country trails that are suitable for beginners and eBike-friendly. We usually bike here as visitors.
  • Revelstoke Mountain Resort: Intermediate and advanced downhill bikers should head to the resort for a full day of downhill biking.
  • Sunnyside : Located on the sunny side of Revelstoke, this area is great for intermediate mountain bikers. eBikes are allowed.

Enjoy a Beer at Mt. Begbie Brewery

 Mt. Begbie Brewery

After a day out on the trails, one of the best things to do in Revelstoke is refresh with a cold one. Mt. Begbie Brewery is an amazing local brewery that has been brewing since 1996. Their beer is created from the surrounding mountain water. It’s definitely worth trying their Mt. Begbie Cream Ale. The only bad news is it’s in a somewhat odd location away from Downtown near the Coast Hotel, so you’ll need a car to get here unless staying at the Coast!

Enjoy Arrow Lakes

Lower Arrow Lake From A Boat

A great Revelstoke activity! Arrow Lakes run from Revelstoke to Castlegar and are split into two sections (Lower Arrow Lake and Upper Arrow Lake). To access the lakes, you just have to go right outside of Revelstoke.

They are a fantastic place to take a boat or jet ski out and enjoy the mountain views in the summer. Don’t forget to grab some snacks from Revelstoke – there’s not much in terms of food or drinks once you leave town.

Road Bike the Meadow in the Sky Parkway

Flowers in Revelstoke

Visiting the Meadow in the Sky Parkway in Mount Revelstoke National Park is a must-do while visiting Revy. The Meadow in the Sky Parkway travels uphill 26 kilometers through beautiful spruce and fir forests and wildflowers in the summer.

It’s a workout to cycle all the way up, but think about how fun the downhill will be! Or, if you have a car shuttle, you can always start at the top and ride down. Don’t forget to stop and take in the viewpoints along the way.

Enchanted Forest

Enchanted Forest

One of the most popular things to do in Revelstoke with kids is get lost in the Enchanted Forest . The Enchanted Forest is 32 km west of Revelstoke and is a series of trails through the beautiful BC forests. Nestled in the forest is BC’s tallest and grandest treehouse, as well as folk art figurines, a castle, dragons, and dungeons.

The Enchanted Forest was a lifelong dream of Doris & Ernest Needham. So they opened to the public in the 1960s, and now it has become one of the best things to do when driving across Western Canada.

Farmer’s Market

Farmers Market

From May to October, Revelstoke has two local weekend markets. So if you’re visiting Revelstoke on a Saturday in the summer, we recommend heading to the Revelstoke Farm & Craft Market at 1504 Second Street West or the Local Food Initiative Market at Centennial Park.

It’s the best place to get that local BC honey you’ve been craving, or fresh flowers, local fruits, and delicious vegetables. BC is well known for its amazing produce – so make sure not to miss it!

Ride the Sightseeing Gondola

Come May, the Revelation Gondola will start operating for the summer season again. You can load and ride up to 1700 meters above the Columbia River, taking in the views of the valley and mountains.

Once at the top grab a burger at the Mackenzie Outpost before taking to one of the hiking trails around. Split Rock Falls, the Subpeak Loop, and Greely Trail are some of the most popular trails up here in the summer.

The Pipe Mountain Coaster

Pipe Coaster in Revelstoke

A fun thing to do in Revelstoke for families is to enjoy the Pipe Mountain Coaster at Mount Revelstoke. It’s a 1.4 km ride across ski runs, glades, and even through a tunnel. The ride goes as fast as 42 kilometers per hour! (If you want it to). Buy tickets beforehand online for a lower rate (as low as $18!)

Wake Surf on Lake Revelstoke

Arrow Lake in Revelstoke

Lake Revelstoke is an artificial lake on the Columbia River and one of the top places to camp near Revelstoke in the summer. It’s a great spot for locals and tourists alike. One of the best parts about Lake Revelstoke is that it’s not in a park, so you can operate motorized boats on the lake.

This includes jet skis and boats. Or you can bring your paddleboard (just be careful it is big and gets windy). If you don’t feel like getting out on the water, there’s a large beach area to sunbathe on.

Hike Mount Begbie

Mount Begbie

Hiking Mount Begbie is like a right of passage for locals in Revelstoke; it is the icon of Revelstoke, which is why some businesses are named after it. Mount Begbie is 2733 meters high, requiring you to hike 12.4 km, and is rated as difficult.

This gets you all the way to the glacier and back! If you have mountaineering and glacier travel experience, you can continue on to the glacier, but this is not recommended without experience! Read more about hiking Mount Begbie here.

Downhill Biking at Revelstoke Mountain Resort

Downhill Mountain Biking

Revelstoke Mountain Resort offers many activities in the winter and summer. If you want to try downhill mountain biking, It offers British Columbia’s newest lift-accessed mountain bike trail network.

These are newly built trails that have both blues and extreme blacks. The Fifty-Six Twenty Trail is said to be the longest flow trail ever built! You can purchase tickets in advance for a discounted price.

Explore Mount Revelstoke National Park

Mount Revelstoke National Park

Mount Revelstoke National Park is a 260 square-kilometer park that offers so much for visitors and locals. Eva Lake Trail is a spectacular hike to one of the clearest lakes in BC . Or try the Balsam Lake hike for another epic day. It’s also fun to drive up the Meadows in the Sky Parkway at night for stargazing.

Visit the Railway Museum

Natasha at the railway museum in Revelstoke

Revelstoke was officially founded in the 1880s when the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) was built through the area to assist with mining. Given this information, one of the best things to do in Revelstoke is to learn about its railway history.

A fun Revelstoke attraction for the whole family is the Railway Museum, which delves into the history of the Canadian Pacific Railway. It’s the perfect place to learn about Canada’s important railway heritage. If it’s a mixed weather day, the Railway Museum is well worth a stop. I’m not a huge museum girly when on vacation, but I spent two hours here delving into the all information.

It’s not just all reading placards, either. There are interactive exhibits and a trainyard, and you get the chance to go inside a retired carriage.

Hike the Waterfall Trifecta (Begbie Falls, Sutherland Falls, Moses Falls)

Waterfalls in Revelstoke

Revelstoke is in an inland rainforest, meaning the forests are incredibly lush. There are some fantastic waterfalls to hike to and check out. If you want to hit a slam dunk in one day, it’s easy to see the waterfall trifecta with just a couple of short Revelstoke hikes.

Sutherland Falls, Begbie Falls, and Moses Falls are all a short distance from Revy. Make sure to download a hiking app like Alltrails to find the trailhead!

Revy Live Outside

If you’re visiting in July and August, head down to 111 MacKenzie Ave for free live music all summer long. Every night in the summer, you can listen to blues, folk, indie, country, reggae, roots, and rock from 6:30-9:00 pm. Expect a lively vibe filled with food trucks, dancing, and friendly locals.

Visit in the Winter

cameron snowboarding at revelstoke in the winter

We spent a full winter season in Revelstoke, and still dream about snowboarding on all that fresh powder. If you think winter is more your calling, or you plan to visit during both seasons, check out our full guide to visiting Revy in the winter .

Where to Stay in Revelstoke

staying at basecamp resorts in revelstoke

There aren’t many places to stay in Revelstoke—it’s a pretty small town! However, we always stay at one of the best properties when we visit. Basecamp Resorts Revelstoke is easily the best place to stay in Revelstoke in the summer. Its location along the river, secluded in the forest, is much better than staying in Downtown Revy (where it can get quite loud at night).

staying at basecamp resorts in revelstoke

Just a short drive away from downtown Revy is this awesome property that literally overlooks the Columbia River. It’s great for friends, families, and couples, offering different room types. Starting with a micro-studio and working up to a six-bedroom apartment, Basecamp has something for everything. Rooms are clean and ultra-modern. They all come with a full kitchen that is well-equipped to cook any meal after a day out, which saves money by not eating out.

basecamp resorts in revelstoke

What I love about Basecamps are the comfortable beds and big entertainment area. The WiFi is fast (Revelstoke has fiber internet -yay), which is perfect since we always seem to have to work a bit while on our trips.

There are even two large hot tubs to enjoy under the neverending view. I was honestly blown away by this property and wouldn’t hesitate to book it again next time we are in Revy. See our other favorite Revelstoke cabins and rentals .

The Best Places to Eat in Revelstoke

cameron at la baguette revelstoke

For such a small town, Revelstoke surprisingly has some good places to eat. When wondering what to do in Revelstoke, you have to walk down Main Street and see all the great shops and eateries. The downtown area is super tiny, so it won’t take long! I would recommend the following for a few great meals.

  • Dose : As mentioned they have fantastic coffee and great lunch items.
  • La Baguette: We always stop in La Baguette when in Revy. They have a cozy space, a nice coffee shop, and I love their creative pizzas.
  • The Village Idiot: Large and delicious caesars combined with pizza makes for an amazingly good time.
  • Paramjit’s Kitchen: Quick and tasty Indian dishes – great for takeaway!
  • The Rockford : This is our favorite apres-ski spot that sits right at the base of Revelstoke Mountain Resort. Super tasty modern pub food and a decent selection of beer on tap along with specials.

Waterfalls near Revelstoke

Do you love finding waterfalls? There are three waterfalls near Revelstoke to check out: Mosses, Sutherland and Begbie Falls. Ask locally for good directions as each of these waterfalls can be a little difficult to find.

All three can be visited in one day but we only had time to visit the most spectacular one, Sutherland Falls.

In the winter, the trail to the waterfalls are popular with snowshoers.

Begbie Falls

Begbie Falls is a located 8 km south of Revelstoke on Highway 23 in the Begbie Falls Recreational Site . The falls sit at the mouth of Begbie Creek on Upper Arrow Lake.

The trailhead can be reached from a small parking lot about 1 km from the Mt McPherson Ski Trail parking lot. Once you reach the trail it is a steep 2 km hike down Begbie Bluff Trail to the small falls. Download a map to the falls.

Moses Falls

The falls are located 9.5 km from Revelstoke. Go to the intersection of South Highway 23 and Westside Road. Take Westside Road north 6.1 km to the parking lot. The short, but steep, trail to Moses falls is 1 km.

Sutherland Falls

We could have stayed here all day to listen to the soothing sounds of the tumbling glacier waters of stunning Sutherland Waterfalls. The falls are located 27.3 kms south of Revelstoke on Highway 23 in Blanket Creek Provincial Park on the Upper Arrow Lake Reservoir.

It’s an easy, short walk to see the breathtaking falls tumble 10 metres into Blanket Creek Canyon.

Best food and drink in Revelstoke

Mt. begbie brewery.

Mt. Begbie Brewing has been crafting beer in Revelstoke for 25 years.

While sitting on the patio of Mt. Begbie Brewing, views of the stunning rugged Monashee mountain range, which includes Mount Begbie and Mount Macpherson, were enjoyed.

We stopped here for a tasting flight of craft beer along with homemade spelt grain pretzels served with a cheese and bacon dip, flavoured with their Nasty Habit IPA.

The microbrewery is open Thursday to Sunday. Food service is available.

The brewery is on the BC Ale Trail .

Monashee Spirits Company

Monashee Spirits Company creates some of the most amazing cocktails in the heart of the mountain town of Revelstoke, BC.

The family-run distillery, operated by Josh and Jenn McLafferty, crafts award-winning spirits and offer a selection of Instagram-worthy cocktails.

The company produces gin, vodka and two liqueurs:

  • Vulcan’s Fire gives off some heat with an infusion of red Thai chili peppers, apples, cinnamon, honey and maple syrup.
  • Big Mountain Creamer is an espresso cream liqueur using local Stoke Roasted Coffee combined with organic BC cream, infused with chocolate, caramel, almonds, vanilla honey, maple.

Behind the bar there is an array well-stocked spirits and numerous varieties of Scotch Whisky.

Watching the mixologist perform the fine art of carefully selecting the perfect ingredients, glassware and garnishes to build each cocktail, is an experience in itself.

We tried the Ocha Sour and the Flying Dead cocktails.

The Ocha Sour is a $13 concoction of Earl Grey infused Vodka, Black Tea Caramel simple syrup reduction, Chambord, lemon juice, saline, bitters and egg white. The garnish is an impressive edible artwork on a printed wafer. The teas used in the drink are sourced from Revelstoke’s Oteas Company.

The Flying Dead is a $14 boozy Zombie-like Tiki Punch. This cocktail features four different rums, grapefruit juice, pineapple juice, Pernard, bitters and Zombie syrup.

We also tried a tasting flight of Monashee Spirits hand crafted gin, vodka and the two liqueurs. Chubby Funsters

We first planned to have dinner at the popular Village Idiot but there was a 45 minute wait. They suggested their sister property a few blocks down the street. What a terrific find! Chubby Funsters restaurant opened in 2014 and is housed in a historic 1890 telegraph building.

We tried two offerings and will be forever craving the warm zucchini noodles sautéed with kalamata olives and sundried tomatoes in a parsley and sunflower seed pesto, topped with goat cheese. The hearty bison burger topped with rosemary onion compote, blueberries and goats cheese was delicious. If we make it back we will try the Stuffed Yorkies. This dish is two Yorkshire puddings stuffed with brisket, caramelized onions, button mushrooms topped with Gruyère cheese and their own special gravy.

The Village Idiot

The Village Idiot is a local Revelstoke favourite. This casual family friendly après themed restaurant says, “It’s for toque wearing, beer drinking, pizza eating skiers and snowboarders” and it really does have that vibe.

The flavourful Wasabi Wit You salad was scrumptious. It featured a seared sesame-crusted albacore tuna topped with a spicy wasabi aioli over greens and quinoa drizzled with balsamic soy, topped with crisp wontons and crispy chow mein noodles.

The made to order pizzas looked amazing and we will have to try on our next visit.
