Privacy is built in.

Online privacy isn’t just something you should hope for — it’s something you should expect. That’s why Safari comes with industry-leading privacy protection technology built in, including Intelligent Tracking Prevention that identifies trackers and helps prevent them from profiling or following you across the web. Upgrading to iCloud+ gives you even more privacy protections, including the ability to sign up for websites and services without having to share your personal email address.

Intelligent Tracking Prevention

safari update for ipad download

Safari stops trackers in their tracks.

What you browse is no one’s business but your own. Safari has built‑in protections to help stop websites and data-collection companies from watching and profiling you based on your browsing activity. Intelligent Tracking Prevention uses on‑device intelligence to help prevent cross‑site tracking and stops known trackers from using your IP address — making it incredibly difficult to learn who you are and what you’re interested in.

Privacy Report

Safari makes it simple to see how your privacy is protected on all the websites you visit. Click Privacy Report in the Safari menu for a snapshot of cross-site trackers currently prevented from profiling you on the website you’re visiting. Or view a weekly Privacy Report to see how Safari protects you as you browse over time.

Safari Profiles allow you to separate your history, extensions, Tab Groups, favorites, cookies, and more. Quickly switch between profiles for topics you create, like Personal and Work.

Web apps let you save your favorite websites to the Dock on Mac and to the Home Screen on iPhone and iPad. A simplified toolbar and separate settings give you an app-like experience.

Surf safe and sound.

Strong security protections in Safari help keep you safe. Passkeys introduce a safer way to sign in. iCloud Keychain securely stores and autofills passkeys and passwords across all your devices. Safari also notifies you when it encounters suspicious websites and prevents them from loading. Because it loads each web page in a separate process, any harmful code is always confined to a single browser tab so it won’t crash the entire application or access your data. And Safari automatically upgrades sites from HTTP to the more secure HTTPS when available.

Passkeys introduce a more secure and easier way to sign in. No passwords required.

Passkeys are end-to-end encrypted and safe from phishing and data leaks, and they are stronger than all common two-factor authentication types. Thanks to iCloud Keychain, they work across all your Apple devices, and they even work on non-Apple devices.

Apple Pay and Wallet make checkout as easy as lifting a finger.

Apple Pay is the easiest and most secure way to shop on Safari — allowing you to complete transactions with Face ID or Touch ID on your iPhone or iPad, with Touch ID on your MacBook Pro or MacBook Air, or by double-clicking the side button on your Apple Watch.

With AutoFill, you can easily fill in your previously saved credit card information from the Wallet app during checkout. Your credit card details are never shared, and your transactions are protected with industry-leading security.

Same Safari. Different device.

Safari works seamlessly and syncs your passwords, bookmarks, history, tabs, and more across Mac, iPad, iPhone, and Apple Watch. And when your Mac, iOS, or iPadOS devices are near each other, they can automatically pass what you’re doing in Safari from one device to another using Handoff. You can even copy images, video, or text from Safari on your iPhone or iPad, then paste into another app on your nearby Mac — or vice versa.

safari update for ipad download

When you use Safari on multiple devices, your tabs carry over from one Apple device to another. So you can search, shop, work, or browse on your iPhone, then switch to your iPad or Mac and pick up right where you left off.

Save web pages you want to read later by adding them to your Reading List. Then view them on any of your iCloud-connected devices — even if you’re not connected to the internet.

iCloud Keychain securely stores your user names, passkeys, passwords, and credit card numbers and keeps them up to date on your trusted devices. So you can easily sign in to your favorite websites — as well as apps on iOS and iPadOS — and quickly make online purchases.

Designed for developers.

To keep pace with other popular search engines, Apple’s Safari browser is constantly being augmented with new features and security add-ins. The updates not only serve to keep Safari free of bugs and malware but also makes using it on a product like the iPad a seamless appearance.

How to Update Safari on an iPad

While some changes are done automatically, in some cases you may have to control the update process yourself. In this article, we’ll tell you how to update the Safari browser on your iPad for the best browsing experience.

Update Safari on iPad

It’s important to note that Safari isn’t a standalone app but is built into iOS. This means you cannot download or update it from the App Store. To update Safari on your iPad, download the latest version of iPadOS supported by your device. You will see a red dot on the Settings icon if a software update is available, however, you can still check manually. A stable internet connection is needed for this. Follow the steps below:

safari update for ipad download

  • If an update is available, click the “Download and Install” option, then choose “Install.”
  • Enter your passcode when prompted. This may be required to give your iPad permission to continue with the installation.
  • When the installation is complete, restart.

In the software update menu, more information about the download is provided such as the size of the download, etc. You can tap “Learn more” to access more software details. Also on the software update page, you can select the “Turn On Automatic Updates” option to have updates installed automatically as they are received.

Why Safari Needs to Be Updated

Software updates are a regular thing at Apple. These upgrades can be installed as soon as they are rolled out on the iPad. When you update the Safari browser, you enjoy better responsiveness and speed, as well as enhanced security and privacy.

Hackers are constantly seeking vulnerabilities in Apple’s well-regarded operating systems. So, to keep malware and bugs at bay, Safari browsers use the latest technology and are supplied with regular updates. These address known issues and add new functionalities. But the only way to access the enhancements is to update Safari whenever a new version rolls out.

Fixing Safari Issues

While Safari offers a good overall user experience, users can face issues in the course of using the browser. However, you can fix these issues easily in most cases. If you are facing issues with your browser, try the following:

Restart Your iPad

This should always be the first thing you try when troubleshooting an app. Restarting the device can fix many issues.

Clear the Cache

The cache is a browser component that stores information about your frequently visited websites so that they load fast each time. However, Safari may fail to work because the cache is full, leading to sluggish performance. Clearing the cache helps.

safari update for ipad download

This should clear the cache successfully and handle the issue.

Get an Update if One Is Available

An outdated Safari app runs into issues from time to time. You need the latest iOS software version for the browser to work correctly. Check for updates in the Settings menu and if it is available, download and install it. This may help fix the issue you’re facing.

Reset Network Settings

Resetting network settings can help fix Safari issues. To reset the network:

Note that this method removes the Wi-Fi passwords as well. As such, save the passwords using a special app or another safe source to easily access them later.

Disable Any Content Blockers

Some users may have installed special blockers to filter out questionable web content or ads. But this can cause Safari browser problems. Thus, the content blocker installed on the iPad needs to be disabled. Doing so could solve the issue and restore Safari functionality.

Can Safari update automatically on my iPad?

Safari updates only when you upgrade your iPad software. This means that you only access the latest Safari version on your device once you update your operating system software.

Can Safari be updated on an old iPad?

An iPad can be updated only when it is compatible with the newer updates. Many of the old iPad models can get the latest updates. However, for even older models like iPad 2, iPad 3, and iPad Mini, you can only upgrade up to iOS 9.3.

How can I tell if the latest Safari version is installed on my device?

This can be only done by checking for updates in the Settings menu. By navigating to General and then About, you can check the OS version installed on your iPad device. This should be the same version as the Safari browser. In iPadOS 13, the Safari version should be 13 as well.

How is an old iPad browser updated?

You need to go through the Settings menu, open General, then download and install the new software update. The steps are the same on new iPads.

Do I need to update Safari?

Software updates are important. Fortunately, you don’t need to make a special effort to update the Safari browser itself. Once you update the iPadOS, the browser is updated as well.

Can an outdated Safari browser be used?

Yes. You can still use a Safari browser even if it’s outdated. However, this can affect your overall user experience. Without an updated browser, you may be restricted from visiting some web pages. Getting the last versions allows you to access better privacy features, security, and extra encryption.

Can I delete Safari from my iPad?

Safari is integrated into the iPadOS and therefore it cannot be removed. However, you can successfully remove it from the home screen if you don’t intend to use it anymore. This won’t delete the app or the data contained therein. If you want, you can clear your history.

Enhance Your Online Browsing Experience by Updating Safari on iPad

iPad owners have access to the Safari browser since it’s part of the operating system. To get the best experience using this browser, you need the latest app version that addresses bugs and glitches. Newer updates mean security improvements, as well as administrative and technical support. Updating Safari is relatively simple as it involves merely getting an iPad software update.

Which iPad version do you use? Have you faced any issues updating the Safari browser? Let us know in the comments section below.

Safari update brings new collaboration and security features in iOS 16

Avatar for Allison McDaniel

Safari is receiving a fresh update with iOS 16 this fall, as announced during WWDC 2022 ‘s opening keynote. The refresh also comes to devices compatible with iPadOS 16 and macOS Ventura at the same time. There are lots of new features and updates coming to Apple devices this year. Let’s take a deep dive on what to expect from Safari, Apple’s web browser.

More collaboration features come to Safari update

It’s easier than ever to collaborate with others using Apple’s own browser. This update to Safari brings a new feature called Shared Tab Groups. With this feature, users can collaborate on a set of tabs and see instant updates while working together. They can also share tabs and bookmarks right from the browser. Tab Groups will have their own start pages that users can customize with a background, bookmarks, and unique sections that the group can see and edit.

Safari is more secure than ever

Safari’s new update also brings more security features like passkeys, a sign-in method that replaces passwords on the web and in apps. The passwords are never stored on a web server and stay on the device, making it impossible for hackers to steal them in a data breach. With the passkeys feature, Touch ID and Face ID are used for biometric verification purposes. Also, iCloud keychain will sync passwords across iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV. I personally love these tools as I don’t have to type in my passwords all the time.

9to5Mac’s Take

I think this new update could be pretty useful. I’m especially impressed with the increase in new collaboration features in Safari. While I think Tab Groups could be super helpful for work and/or school, it’s hard to imagine seeing them in use. As these features are limited to Apple users, I’d like to see a better workflow between Apple and non-Apple devices, but I know that won’t happen.

What do you think of the new features coming to Safari with iOS 16? Let us know in the comments.

How to update Safari on iPhone and iPad

From time to time, Apple releases new versions of Safari to support the latest iOS version. You should always keep your Safari browser updated for security purposes and because it just works better with new features and improvements. There is just one way to update the Safari browser on an iPhone or iPad.

One of the most used features of an iPhone is the web browser. The Safari web browser is fast, easy to use and easy to access on any iOS device. The Safari browser on your iPhone or iPad is simple, smart and fast. It adapts to the way you use the web, can handle the latest web standards, and offers great features like Reading List to save your page for later and Shared Links to see what others are reading. The latest version of Safari is also designed to work better with iCloud; it’s as if two browsers are better than one.

It is very important to Update Mac OS and Update safari on Mac for bug fixes. Also check if it is safe to Upgrade to the latest version of Mac OS .

Safari is the default browser on Apple devices and is used by billions of people. That makes it a popular target for hackers and scammers. When Apple releases an update to fix vulnerabilities in Safari, you should install the update as soon as possible to ensure that you’re using a secure version of the browser. You can update Safari manually or use Automatic Updates, which will keep your web browser up-to-date.

Steps to Update Safari on iPhone

Safari automatically updates with new features when you update your phone’s operating system. To update Safari browser on iPhone 8, iPhone, 11, iPhone X, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro Max, iPhone SE and other Older iPhones follow the below steps:

  • Go to Settings
  • Open General

Settings srcset=

Steps to Update Safari on iPad (Air, Pro, Mini)

  • Plug your iPad Air, Pro, Mini into power.
  • Connect to a Wi-Fi network .
  • Open Settings > General,
  • Now tap on Software   Update .
  • If new software version is available, Tap Download and Install.
  • Enter Passcode and follow the instruction.

Update Safari on iPad Air, Pro, Mini

Your iPad Air, Pro, Mini Safari browser will be automatically updated to the newest version after the installation is complete.

Update Safari on Mac to the latest version (12.0.1)

Operating system software is designed to work best with the latest versions of its apps and services. Apple regularly releases new version of macOS, which includes Safari. However, it’s up to you to update your computer by installing the update.

  • Go to Apple menu  top left corner of your screen, Click on System Preferences .
  • Under System Preferences , click Software Update.
  • Install any updates or upgrades.
  • MacBook will now update the macOS and Safari version of your MacBook Air or Pro.

The latest version of Safari can help you browse the web faster. When you connect to the internet with your Mac, Safari checks for updates automatically by default. In certain situations, you can also manually check for updates. If a Safari update is available, it appears in Software Update, together with any other updates Apple provides for the macOS operating system.

Latest version of safari

Latest version of safari is the same as the latest iOS Version, which is iOS 15.4.1 and iPadOS 15.4.1.

If you are using an older version of Safari, it’s time to update your browser immediately or face security threats.

This is a precautionary measure by Apple in order to protect users from potential malicious websites and phishing attacks that may be used by criminals to steal personal information such as credit card details and passwords from their victims.

Apple has also advised all users with devices running iOS 12 or earlier versions to update their Safari browsers immediately in order to secure their privacy and avoid being victimized by hackers who might use vulnerabilities in older versions of Safari for malicious purposes.

If you’re using any other browser than Safari then you don’t have to worry about this update because it doesn’t affect any other browser except Safari itself on all devices so you don’t have to worry about other web browsers not receiving updates or support after this one because they will be still receiving updates or support like Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox or others.

Why to Update Safari browser on iPhone or iPad?

You probably already know that Apple releases new iPhone software updates regularly. But did you know that regular Safari browser updates are also available right from your iPhone or iPad? This means that you get more privacy and security along with improvements to the speed and responsiveness of the Safari browser itself.

The Safari browser on your iPhone and iPad is designed based on the latest technologies to give you the best web browsing experience. Over time, bugs may be fixed, improvements may be made, and new features will be added. To get these improvements, you need to update your browser.

Does Safari update automatically on iPhone?

Simply stated, Safari is only updated with iOS updates. The reason why the newest version of Safari isn’t automatically updated on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch is because the update is tied to iOS. You can only update Safari when you update your OS X or iOS.

Keeping your software up to date is one of the most important things you can do to maintain your product’s security. Apple releases patches, or updates, for its product software to address issues discovered since the initial release of software and to fix issues that affect compatibility and other features are found in current versions.

Apple releases software updates to fix bugs, improve security, and add new features. And staying up to date is important because there are over one million iOS apps in the App Store, many of which use your operating system’s software as a foundation for their features and functions. Running an outdated version of iOS increases the risk that you could encounter an issue on your device that you can’t successfully troubleshoot.

How often is Safari updated?

Because Safari is part of macOS and iOS you don’t need to install separate updates. Updates occur in the Mac App Store or iOS and include the most recent version of WebKit. If you’re using a Mac and have automatic software updates turned on you’ll always have the most recent version of the Safari browser.

iOS 15.3.1 Update

Would you like to update? I have a new update for you. Today, Apple released iOS 15.3.1. This is only a minor update connected to the used one before. Easy to navigate and use is the main idea behind this new version. Say goodbye to iOS bugs and ensure you are secured against malware and other vulnerabilities that can harm you or your device.

How to fix Safari not downloading files on iPhone, iPad, and Mac

You may, at times, encounter an issue where Safari refuses to download photos, videos, audio, PDFs, documents, and other files from a website. In this article, we’ll explore common reasons why Safari may not be downloading files on iPhone, iPad, or Mac and provide solutions to help you get back to downloading with ease.

List of Safari downloads on iPhone

The issues you may be facing

  • Clicking the download link opens a new blank tab, and no file download starts.
  • Safari is refusing to begin file downloads from one or all sites.
  • File download starts, but it fails immediately in a second or two.
  • The download happens up to a point and then fails midway or just before completing.
  • Safari downloads a file but opens it and then deletes the original files (this happens with ZIP and other compressed files).

The solutions below should help fix all the above issues and also ones similar to them.

Before you begin

It’s possible that you’re not following the right steps to download the file. On Mac, it’s super easy, but on iPhone and iPad, downloading files may not be as obvious. With that said, even if the file has been downloaded, you may not know where it’s saved and how to find it. So, look at these tutorials, if needed:

  • How to download videos from Safari on iPhone and iPad
  • How to download files and documents to iPhone or iPad
  • How to access downloaded files on iPhone and iPad

Retry the download

In many cases, initiating the download again does the trick. Try hitting the download link again, and it should work. If not, refresh the webpage and click the download button again.

Note: Some websites put downloads behind a login wall. So, make sure to honor that.

Pause and resume the download

The download may look like it has started, but it will pause or fail in a few seconds. If that happens, hit the tiny retry button a few times, and it should start the download. If not, hit the download link again on the website.

Check your internet

Make sure your iPhone, iPad, or Mac is connected to a stable Wi-Fi, Cellular Data, or Ethernet connection and the internet is working properly.

Some useful tips

  • Turn off VPN if you’re using one.
  • Restart your Wi-Fi router.

Allow the website to download files

When you try to download a file from a website for the first time, it doesn’t start immediately. Instead, you will see an alert asking your permission to allow this site to download and save files locally or not. Make sure you allow that. If you choose to block the download, follow these steps to fix it:

On iPhone and iPad: Hit the download link again on the website and tap Allow or Download when asked. If you don’t see the Allow button, clear your browser data.

Allow and Download popup alert in Safari before downloading a file

On Mac: Open Safari and click Safari > Settings from the top menu bar. Now, go to Websites > Downloads > click the drop-down menu next to the website name and choose Allow . While you’re here, also make sure it says ‘ Ask ‘ or ‘ Allow ‘ next to ‘ When visiting other websites .’

Allow websites to download files in Safari on Mac

Force Quit and reopen Safari

On iPhone and iPad: Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and hold or double-press the Home button to enter App Switcher. From here, drag the Safari app card all the way up to close it .

On Mac: Save your work in any other open Safari tabs. Next, click the Apple icon  and choose Force Quit . Here, select Safari and click Force Quit .

Now reopen Safari and try downloading the file again.

Use alternate download links

You may see more than one download link on a website. If one link fails to work, try the other one. Note: Sometimes, picking a different download quality (for a video, audio, or image) should do the trick.

Choose different download quality for image, video, and audio

Set Safari download location to anything other than iCloud Drive

If you have set Safari to download files to iCloud Drive,  switch it to any other local storage folder using the steps below:

On iPhone or iPad: Settings > Safari > Downloads > On My iPhone or Other .

On Mac: Open Safari and click Safari > Settings from the top menu bar. From the General section, select Downloads , Desktop , or any local folder next to ‘ File download location .’

File download location in Safari on Mac

Stop Safari from automatically opening files after download

By default, Safari on Mac is set to open files after downloading them. That means if you download a ZIP file, Safari will automatically unzip it after downloading. In rare cases, this may cause the download to fail, not complete successfully, or not even start in the first place if the file you’re trying to download is incompatible. Therefore, it’s best to turn it off from Safari Settings > General > uncheck ‘ Open “safe” files after downloading .’

Restart your device

If Safari is unable to download files due to minor glitches, save your work and do a restart .

Make sure your device has sufficient free space

New file downloads will only succeed if your iPhone, iPad, or Mac has enough free space. So go to Settings, and check how much free storage you have. If it’s full, use these tutorials to free up space:

  • 50+ tips to free space on your iPhone and iPad
  • 30+ ways to free storage space on your Mac

Clear Safari history and cache

One of the most reliable solutions to fix Safari issues is clearing its history and website data .

On iPhone and iPad, you can do this from Settings > Safari > Clear History and Website Data .

On Mac, click History from the top menu bar and select Clear History .

Try disabling a recently installed Safari extension

If you could download files earlier but can’t after installing an extension, then that extension is likely the culprit. Remove it, restart your device, and now you should have no problem downloading files.

On iPhone and iPad: Head over to this guide on installing and removing Safari extensions .

On Mac: Go to Safari Settings > Extensions > select the extension and click Uninstall .

Uninstall extension from Safari on Mac

Update Safari

Safari updates are tied to system updates on iPhone and iPad. So, go to Settings app > General > Software Update and get the latest version of the operating system.

On Mac, you can update Safari from System Settings .

Update your Mac

If you’re on an older version of macOS, consider updating to the latest version, which should improve your computer’s overall working and stability.

On macOS Ventura and later, go to System Settings > General > Software Update . And on macOS Monterey and earlier, go to System Preferences > Software Update .

How to manage downloads in Safari on iPad

Manage your downloads in Safari like a pro. Here's how to get those downloads organized.

Safari on iPad

How to download a file in Safari

How to manage your downloads, how to view your downloaded files on ipad.

In the most recent versions of iPadOS, Apple is finally bringing desktop capabilities to Safari on the iPad. This is possible in part because the iPad is finally separating itself from the iPhone, and iPadOS brings about a ton of new functionalities, especially with Safari. One of the biggest new features in Safari is the ability to download and manage files from webpages.

Since Safari now has a desktop-class browsing experience on the iPad , it's actually possible to download files directly on your iPad. Whether it's zip folders, documents, videos, music, software restore files, or whatever suits your fancy, you can do it right on your iPad.

  • Launch Safari on your iPad.
  • Navigate to any webpage that contains the file you want to download.
  • Tap on the link to the file that you want to download. If the website has the Download option hidden under a menu, just tap on it until you find the download link .

Click Download link for the file you want to download. It may be under a menu

  • Confirm whether you want to download the file by tapping on Download .

Click the Download button to confirm the download

  • If you change your mind about the download, just tap on the "X" . Your download will begin downloading immediately if you chose to download it.

Like on the desktop, you can view and manage your current downloads right in Safari.

  • Tap on the Downloads button in the toolbar (it's the arrow pointing down inside a circle). This reveals a popover menu with your current downloads.

When you have downloads, the download manager becomes visible

  • If a file is still downloading but you want to cancel it, just tap on the "X" .
  • If you want to resume the download, tap on the Resume button (looks like the refresh icon in Safari).
  • To view your file, tap on the magnifying glass to open up your Downloads folder in iCloud Drive.
  • This gets rid of any unfinished downloads as well, so be careful.
  • Any completed downloads will still remain in your Downloads folder in iCloud Drive.

Pause or Resume a download, stop the download and get rid of it, or Clear the entire list

After you download a file from Safari, you can quickly jump to it from the download manager by tapping on that magnifying glass icon. But if you want to view them manually after clearing out the list, you can do that too.

  • Launch Files on your iPad.
  • Tap on Browse .

Launch Files

  • Make sure to select iCloud Drive from the Locations side panel.
  • Locate the Downloads folder and tap it.

Select Downloads

  • Tap on a file to view it.
  • If you want to share the file, tap on the Share button in the top right corner to bring up the Share Sheet .

Select file

Download like a pro

With this type of functionality, the best iPad feels ever more like a cross between a computer and a smartphone. This ability to download and manage files is quite MacBookish, but in its own iPad way. Once you have this mastered, you can manage downloads in Safari and keep them organized for a more streamlined experience.

Safari Update on iPad [4 Leading Procedures to Perform]

Lisa Ou

Hi, guys! My friend is visiting me at our home this morning since we have not met for over a month. I saw her searching for information using the Safari web browser on her iPad. I notice that the features it contains are new. I would like to get the new features of Safari on my iPad, too! How do I update Safari on my iPad? Please help me with this process. Any recommendations will be appreciated. Thank you so much in advance!

Generally, iPad applications can be updated on the App Store. However, the built-in tools of the mentioned device cannot. If so, how will you update your iPad Safari? You only need to update the iPadOS to get new features for your iPad's built-in tools, including Safari. See how below.

Safari Update on iPad [4 Leading Procedures to Perform]

iPads offer a built-in Setting app to update the iPadOS version it contains and update its built-in applications. These procedures will only require an internet connection, like a Wi-Fi network. Cellular data is not recommended because it consumes too much data. If that’s the case, there are tendencies wherein you will lose all the cellular plan your iPad contains. If the amount of data is insufficient, the process will be interrupted.

FoneLab iOS System Recovery

FoneLab enables you to fix iPhone/iPad/iPod from DFU mode, recovery mode, Apple logo, headphone mode, etc. to normal state without data loss.

  • Fix disabled iOS system problems.
  • Extract data from disabled iOS devices without data loss.
  • It is safe and easy to use.

Do you want to use the Settings app to learn how to update Safari on iPad? Please follow the detailed steps below. Move on.

Step 1 Access the Settings app and choose the General button on the next interface. After that, please select the Software Update  at the top of the main interface. The iPad will show you updates on the screen if available.

Step 2 Now, it is time to update your iPadOS. Please stop the Download and Install  button to start getting the new features of the iPadOS, including the Safari web browser.

iTunes is known for being a versatile program installed on your Mac and Windows operating systems. It can convert play videos and update the Safari on your iPad by updating the software version of the mentioned device. You can only use this program on your Mac if the MacOS version is older. iTunes is unavailable on the latest macOS version because it has been replaced with Finder.

But there's nothing to worry about because you can also use it on your Windows operating system. The procedures for iTunes regarding the operating systems are almost the same. Please scroll below to see how to update Safari on iPad with iTunes. Move on.

Step 1 Get a USB cable to connect the iPad to the computer. After that, please launch the iTunes program to start the process. Please choose the iPad icon at the top left. Later, select the Summary button and click the Check for Update button.

Step 2 Later, the program will scan to see if updates for the iPadOS are available. If there are any, please choose the Download and Update  button.

Do you not have the latest version of iTunes on your Mac? Finder is the best and only built-in alternative to the software mentioned. They have almost the same process but only differ in your buttons. Do you want to use Finder to update Safari on iPad by updating the iPadOS version? Please refer to the detailed steps below.

Step 1 Connect the iPad using a USB cable to the computer. After that, click the iPad icon at the top left corner. After that, choose the  Check for Update button on the right. Later, wait for the software to load if there are available updates.

Step 2 If your iPad is eligible for updates, please click the Download and Install button. After that, please wait for the process to end for the best results.

Aside from the built-in tools mentioned in the previous sections, you can use a third-party tool to update your iPad Safari by updating the iPadOS. Among all the available software on the internet, FoneLab iOS System Recovery is the most recommended one, mainly because of its two repair modes for updating process. Advanced mode will eliminate all the data on your iPad after updating the iPadOS. In contrast, the standard mode will not delete even a single piece of data on your iPad after the process.

Do you want to use this software to update Safari on iPad by updating the iPadOS? Please see the detailed steps below that we have prepared for you. Move on.

Step 1 Download the tool on your computer by ticking the  Free Download  button. After that, please set it up and launch it on your computer. Please click the  iOS System Recovery button on the initial interface.

Step 2 You will see the supported malfunctions of the software. All you need to do is click the Start button to begin the process. You will be directed to another interface afterward.

start the process

Step 3 Please get the USB cable and connect the iPad to the computer. If any permissions are asked from your iPad, please allow all of them to give access to the software. Later, choose between the two repair modes of the tool. Click the Confirm button to proceed.

choose repair mode

Step 4 Follow the on-screen procedures to put the iPad into recovery mode. Later, choose the iPadOS version in the Update to Software section. Later, click the Repair or Optimize button to update your iPadOS to update the Safari web browser.

Can I update Safari without updating iPadOS?

Unfortunately, no. Aside from getting the latest iPadOS version, updating the Safari app is impossible with other procedures. One of the main reasons is that the web browser is a built-in app for the iPad. Although you can see the Safari app on the App Store once you search, Apple does not offer update options, only the Open button.

How do I find the version of Safari on my iPad?

Finding the version of the iPad Safari is easy. You only need to open the Settings application on your iPad. After that, please choose the General button among all the options. After that, scroll down and select the About button on the next interface. Later, please locate the iPadOS Version section. The version of the operating system will be the version of the Safari.

That's how you update Safari on old iPad, including the new models. Do you find the 4 methods in this post helpful? We assume you did! Among all of them, we hope that you find FoneLab iOS System Recovery convenient if you update Safari by updating the iPadOS on your computers. Do you have more questions about the topic? Apple released iOS 17.4.1  on March 21, more than two weeks after the company released iOS 17.4 . The iOS 17.4 release brought fresh features to your iPhone , like new Stolen Device Protection options and transcripts in Podcasts . The iOS 17.4.1 update patches two zero-day vulnerabilities on your iPhone. A zero-day vulnerability is a security flaw that can be used to access vulnerable systems in software or hardware, according to  IBM .

To download the update, go to Settings > General > Software Update , tap Update Now and follow the onscreen prompts.

"This update provides important bug fixes and security updates and is recommended for all users," Apple wrote in the update's description.

iOS 17.4.1 update information which reads this update provides important bug fixes and security updates and is recommended for all users.

Apple wrote in the update's  CVE entry -- which stands for common vulnerabilities and exposures -- that iOS 17.4.1 addresses two issues that could lead to arbitrary code execution. According to the  IT services company Okta , arbitrary code execution could allow a third party to steal your data or hack your device for other nefarious purposes. Apple didn't say these issues were actively exploited, but these issues could be exploited without this update.

According to Apple, both issues were uncovered by  Google's Project Zero , a team of security analysts who research and report zero-day vulnerabilities in hardware and software.

Apple's mysterious iOS 17.4.1 and iPad OS 17.4.1 updates are actually very important

adrian-kingsley-hughes

[UPDATE: March 30, 2024: Apple posted a security bulletin listing two security patches present in iOS 17.4.1 and iOS 17.4.1.]

Last week, Apple rolled out iOS 17.4.1 and iPadOS 17.4.1, a swift follow-up to the 17.4 release earlier this month .

So, what exactly does this update include?

The bottom line is that we don't know, as Apple isn't saying much about what's inside. The release notes offer the standard mention of "bug fixes and security updates," as well as urging users to install the latest version.

Also: Why I limit my iPhone 15's charge capacity to 80% (and you should you too)

Strangely, even Apple's dedicated page for outlining the security content of updates is oddly devoid of details this time around. Apple only teases us with a note of "details coming soon."

iOS 17.4.1 update.

This is reminiscent of the iOS 17.2.1 update that Apple released in late 2023, another update with very little information associated with it.

Digging around, I've found that this update fixes an issue where an iPad might not be able to scan QR codes  and the annoying bug where the alarm doesn't go off. I've also noticed that AirDrop seems to be a lot faster and more reliable, as connecting my AirPods seems to be quicker and the connection more stable.

As far as battery life and performance are concerned, things seem to be about the same as before.

Regarding the inevitable "Should you install this?" question, my answer is yes. Not only might it turn out to contain security fixes, but there doesn't seem to be much downside to applying it.

iOS 17.5 Lets EU iPhone Users Download Apps From Websites

Apple today released the first beta of iOS 17.5 to developers, and as expected, the update introduces support for downloading apps from developer websites in the European Union.

Apple EU iOS Changes

To offer an app for download from a website in the European Union, developers need to meet specific criteria. Developers need to be a member of the Apple Developer Program for two continuous years or more and must have an app with more than one million first installs on iOS in the European Union in the prior year. Other requirements include submitting to Apple's notarization process and publishing transparent data collection policies.

Apple will provide authorized developers with an API that allows them to offer their apps for download via the web. Apps downloaded this way will be able to be backed up, restored, updated, and more.

This is the first time that Apple has sanctioned downloading an app directly from a website. Support for this feature will allow apps like Spotify, Fortnite, and others to be downloaded directly on iPhones should the developers behind those apps opt in to Apple's terms.

Apps offered through the web do not have to pay any commission to Apple, but they are subject to the 0.50 euro Core Technology Fee.

As with alternative app marketplaces, app downloads from the web are available in the European Union only under the terms of the DMA. Note that apps can only be downloaded this way on the iPhone as the changes do not apply to the iPad .

terrible UX. no thanks. glad Apple is doing the 0.50 euro fee. developers should not be freeloading off the hard work Apple has done to make this possible.

Now people in the EU can download apps with spyware and viruses in them, then get mad at Apple when their Apple ID stuff is stolen. Ill stick to the App Store myself.

I´m tired of the paternalism of the European Union, as if the user is stupid.

You Should Update Apple iOS and Google Chrome ASAP

Illustration with web windows download code loading sign and settings icons.

It’s time to check your software updates . March has seen the release of important patches for Apple’s iOS , Google’s Chrome , and its privacy-conscious competitor Firefox . Bugs have also been squashed by enterprise software giants including Cisco, VMware, and SAP.

Here’s what you need to know about the security updates issued in March.

Apple made up for a quiet February by issuing two separate patches in March. At the start of the month, the iPhone maker released iOS 17.4, fixing over 40 flaws including two issues already being used in real-life attacks.

Tracked as CVE-2024-23225 , the first bug in the iPhone Kernel could allow an attacker to bypass memory protections. “Apple is aware of a report that this issue may have been exploited,” the iPhone maker said on its support page .

Tracked as CVE-2024-23296, the second flaw, in RTKit, the real-time operating system used in devices including AirPods, could also allow an adversary to bypass Kernel memory protections.

Later in March, Apple released a second software update, iOS 17.4.1, this time fixing two flaws in its iPhone software, both tracked as CVE-2024-1580 . Using the issues patched in iOS 17.4.1, an attacker could execute code if they convinced someone to interact with an image.

Soon after issuing iOS 17.4.1, Apple released patches for its other devices to fix the same bugs: Safari 17.4.1, macOS Sonoma 14.4.1 and macOS Ventura 13.6.6.

Google Chrome

March was another hectic month for Google, which patched multiple flaws in its Chrome browser. Mid-way through the month, Google released 12 patches, including a fix for CVE-2024-2625, an object-lifecycle issue in V8 with a high severity rating.

Medium-severity issues include CVE-2024-2626, an out-of-bounds read bug in Swiftshader; CVE-2024-2627, a use-after-free flaw in Canvas; and CVE-2024-2628, an inappropriate implementation issue in Downloads.

At the end of the month, Google issued seven security fixes, including a patch for a critical use-after-free flaw in ANGLE tracked as CVE-2024-2883 . Two further use-after-free bugs, tracked as CVE-2024-2885 and CVE-2024-2886, were given a high-severity rating. Meanwhile, CVE-2024-2887 is a type-confusion flaw in WebAssembly.

The last two issues were exploited at the Pwn2Own 2024 hacking contest, so you should update your Chrome browser ASAP.

Mozilla Firefox

Mozilla’s Firefox had a busy March, after patching two zero-day vulnerabilities exploited at Pwn2Own. CVE-2024-29943 is an out-of-bounds access bypass issue, while CVE-2024-29944 is a privileged JavaScript Execution flaw in Event Handlers that could lead to sandbox escape. Both issues are rated as having a critical impact.

Earlier in the month, Mozilla released Firefox 124 to address 12 security issues, including CVE-2024-2605, a sandbox-escape flaw affecting Windows operating systems. An attacker could have leveraged the Windows Error Reporter to run arbitrary code on the system, escaping the sandbox, Mozilla said.

CVE-2024-2615 sees critical-rated memory safety bugs fixed in Firefox 124. “Some of these bugs showed evidence of memory corruption, and we presume that with enough effort [they] could have been exploited to run arbitrary code,” Mozilla said.

Google Android

Google has released its March Android Security Bulletin , fixing nearly 40 issues in its mobile operating system, including two critical bugs in its system component. CVE-2024-0039 is a remote code-execution flaw, while CVE-2024-23717 is an elevation-of-privilege vulnerability.

“The most severe of these issues is a critical security vulnerability in the System component that could lead to remote code execution with no additional execution privileges needed,” Google said in its advisory.

The update also fixes six privilege-elevation flaws in the Framework as well as a denial-of-service issue tracked as CVE-2024-0047.

The March update is now available for Google’s Pixel devices and some of Samsung’s Galaxy range.

Microsoft’s March Patch Tuesday has fixed over 60 security vulnerabilities, including multiple issues that could allow an attacker to execute code remotely. These include CVE-2024-21334 , a remote code-execution vulnerability in the Open Management Infrastructure (OMI). The issue is rated as important, but has a CVSS score of 9.8. Using the flaw, a remote unauthenticated attacker could access the OMI instance from the internet and send specially crafted requests to trigger a use after free vulnerability, Microsoft said.

Among the other notable flaws patched during the month are two Hyper-V vulnerabilities, CVE-2024-21407 and CVE-2024-21408. The first is a remote code-execution flaw with a CVSS score of 8.1. The second issue is a denial-of-service issue rated as critical with a CVSS score of 5.5.

While none of the vulnerabilities have been used in attacks, they are still pretty serious, making it important you update soon.

At the start of the month, Cisco released fixes for two issues in its Secure Client. Tracked as CVE-2024-20337 and with a CVSS score of 8.2, the first vulnerability in the SAML authentication process of Cisco Secure Client could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to conduct a carriage-return-line-feed injection attack against a user.

Meanwhile, CVE-2024-20338 is an issue in the ISE Posture System Scan module of Cisco Secure Client for Linux that could allow an authenticated, local attacker to elevate privileges on an affected device.

Midway through March, Cisco released its semiannual Cisco IOS XR Software Security Advisory Bundled Publication. This fixed nine bugs, three of which are rated as having a high impact.

Enterprise software firm VMware issued an important update in March to fix four vulnerabilities, one of which has a CVSS score of 9.3. The use-after-free bug in XHCI USB controller is tracked as CVE-2024-22252 and rated as critical. “A malicious actor with local administrative privileges on a virtual machine may exploit this issue to execute code as the virtual machine's VMX process running on the host,” VMware said in an advisory .

CVE-2024-22253 is a use-after-free vulnerability in UHCI USB controller that could allow an attacker to execute code. Meanwhile, CVE-2024-22254 is an out-of-bounds write flaw with a CVSS score of 7.9.

SAP’s March Security Patch Day came with 10 updates, including fixes for two serious vulnerabilities. CVE-2019-10744 is a code-injection issue in applications built with SAP Build Apps with a CVSS score of 9.4.

Meanwhile, CVE-2024-22127 is a code-injection vulnerability in SAP NetWeaver AS Java with a CVSS score of 9.1. This would enable the attacker to run commands which can cause high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the application, security firm Onapsis said .

iPadOS 18 is Apple’s upcoming operating system for its iPad models. After offering a few design changes and focusing on health with iPadOS 17 , Apple might focus on AI applications and other key changes with its next iPadOS update, as it also readies a new iPad Pro .

What will Apple call the next iPadOS?

While it’s difficult to predict what Apple might call macOS system versions, it’s pretty straightforward with iPadOS.

If Apple follows the trend, iPadOS 17’s successor will be called iPadOS 18. Internally, Apple calls this next operating system Crystal – but, of course, it doesn’t mean the Cupertino firm will name its iPadOS updates the way it does with macOS.

iPadOS 18 features

Journal app.

iOS 17's Journal app logo

First launched with iOS 17 , it makes sense if Apple expands this app for the iPad with iPadOS 18. Using on-device machine learning, it displays personalized suggestions that can inspire a user’s journal entry.

AI is key – and should come to iPadOS 18 too

With several Apple AI features expected for iOS 18, they could also be available with iPadOS 18. Bloomberg ‘s Mark Gurman corroborates with Jeff Pu and The Information, as he believes generative AI will be a massive part of the system. These are some use cases:

  • Auto-summarizing and auto-complete features for core apps and productivity software (Pages, Keynote). This was also  rumored by leaker yeux1122 , which says code on iOS 18 suggests this function.
  • Better playlist creation in Apple Music
  • Siri (a big overall overhaul with a focus on AI)
  • Code completion in a new version of Xcode for developers
  • AppleCare tools to assist employees in helping customers with troubleshooting

Tim Cook confirms AI is coming – but core features might be left for later

Apple CEO Tim Cook before WWDC 2023 keynote kicked off

Cook said Apple will spend a “tremendous amount of time and effort” on AI, with details coming later this year.

Moments like these [the Vision Pro launch] are what we live for at Apple. They’re why we do what we do. They’re why we’re so unflinchingly dedicated to groundbreaking innovation and why we’re so focused on pushing technology to its limits as we work to enrich the lives of our users.  As we look ahead, we will continue to invest in these and other technologies that will shape the future. That includes artificial intelligence, where we continue to spend a tremendous amount of time and effort, and we’re excited to share the details of our ongoing work in that space later this year.

Some AI features might be powered by Google Gemini, ChatGPT, and Baidu

Google Gemini illustration

According to Bloomberg,  Apple is apparently in talks with Google to license Gemini  after previously considering OpenAI’s ChatGPT. While there’s no telling if Apple will partner with Google, the move isn’t necessarily surprising. Gemini already powers generative AI features on the Pixel 8 and the Galaxy S24. The latter certainly made an impression earlier this year.

On the one hand, it’s exciting to hear that Apple is open to such partnerships. Whether Gemini, ChatGPT, or something else, Apple could use a third-party large language model to power some AI features on the iPhone. The alternative is waiting for its own Apple GPT to become as powerful as the GPTs of Google and OpenAI.

Freeform app update

According to  MacRumors , Apple is preparing for an update to the Freeform app. The publication says a new “Freeform Scenes” feature is coming with iPadOS 18, which will help with board navigation. Users will be able to select, edit, name, and collaborate with scenes.

  • Save:  Shift + Command + S

Apple ID might change to an Apple Account brand

Apple is reportedly considering changing the name of Apple ID to  “Apple Account.”  It could happen once  iOS 18  arrives. While it’s unclear why Apple might make the change, it would make a lot more sense in the context of Apple’s current business.
