Swedish House Mafia Teams Up With the Weekend for Coachella
The announcement of headline acts comes a day after Swedish House Mafia collaborated with The Weeknd for an extensive set at this year's Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in California.
Titled "Swedish House Mafia x the Weeknd," the two acts joint forces and perform some of their biggest tracks in front of thousands of people.
The set was split into two halves; Variety reported that the trio opened the show with their songs and then performed with The Weeknd with their previous collaborations.
The Weeknd donned a casual outfit consisting of a black shirt, military vest, loose pants, and a pair of boots.
The singer later, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, transitioned into his solo set, performing his hit tracks "Blinding Lights," "I Can't Feel My Face," "Hurricane," and more.
The set ended around Monday midnight with their collaboration "Moth to a Flame."
Kanye West was initially scheduled for the set, but he pulled out two weeks ago. The music trio was originally placed in a different lineup, but they were upgraded to headline the festival.

Paradise Again , which was released Friday, April 15 by Republic Records , came together in the wake of the group rediscovering their musical synergy on their highly touted 2019 reunion tour. The trio spent innumerable hours in the studio over the subsequent years, exorcizing new sonic palettes, textures, and tones from an arsenal of analog synths. While the material is recognizably Swedish House Mafia, it also represents a broadening of their musical scope.

Swedish House Mafia Recruit ZHU, Grimes, Kaytranada, and Alesso for Paradise Again Tour Support
Swedish house mafia returns with a bang as they release their world tour dates and the artists that will be opening for the group..
Following the release of their new fantastic album “Paradise Again” and a Coachella performance , Swedish House Mafia announces a world tour. This tour around the world will have an impressive collection of artists opening the shows including ZHU , Grimes, Kaytranada , and Alesso. They will be touring in cities such as Prague, Glasgow, Lisbon, Seattle, Toronto, Detroit, and many others near you.
Swedish House Mafia is comprised of artists Axwell, Steve Angello, and Sebastian Ingrosso who have produced one of the best albums of the year with “Paradise Again”. Every single song on this album is different from one another and so amazingly made. From the dark tones in “Mafia” (my personal favorite) to the melodic nature of “For You” there is not a single miss on this work of art.

The last time SHM released a full album and went on tour was a literal decade ago so it is safe to say fans have been waiting patiently for “Paradise Again”. The wait was worthwhile and featured artists such as the astonishing Mapei, and the rap king A$AP Rocky. The range of different genres that can be experienced while listening brings listeners to a private paradise of sound that they never want to leave.
SHM was able to showcase their album for fans at Coachella this year, where they brought up vocal god The Weeknd as support for their first show back. I am jealous of anybody who was able to attend that show and I would’ve flown to the valley myself just to see their set if I could. The show was just a sneak peek of what the trio has in store for their fans this year.
Tickets to the tour dates are currently on sale. Get yours now and make sure to listen to the new album below!

was an amazing show, the guys were amazing!!! they played his own songs of solitaire and his songs as swedish house mafia and I loved it and enjoyed it a lot..They have a lot of talent and were super nice with all of us, I hope They come back soon, and the moment when fireworks came in was totally magic. Absolutely had a great time :)

Show was amazing, should have brought better support acts with alesso being in the town at that time. Light visuals were somewhat ok, should have been more spectacular for their «first» gig after the reunion. Lasted a bit short, and they only had a few minutes playing their most famous songs. After all it was a cool experience!
Let's just say that Swedish House Mafia opened my eyes to a world of love. I attended the EDM group's concert in Madison Square Garden back in 2012 on the 'One Last Tour'. It was my fist Rave type of performance and easily the best.
As i waited for the show to begin i hardly knew what to expect. SHM kicked off the night with their hit single, "Greyhound" accompinied by impressive visuals and an energy unlike anything else i had experienced. I truly felt alive for the first time in my life, now knowing what i had been missing. Their repertoire, songs from their album 'Unitl Now' released in 2012, were strung together and played back to back, just as a story would unfold and cease to have any pauses. I was on a journey. A journey that included some of the most intricticate and pleasing sounds i had ever heard.
The most special thing about my night spent with SHM was the way their music brought the audience together. Accompinied by my four friends, we were surrounded by a crowd of people who geuniely were happy to be there. Everyone wanted to take care of each other, whether it was lifting someone up on your shoulders or a simple smile, everyone was loved. I think that this is the best message that an artist can send and create; pure love and compassion between strangers through their love of music.

Alesso: Inside the Manic World of a Swedish House Sensation
By David Drake
David Drake
When the streams of fire burst up from the front of Perry’s Stage at Lollapalooza, the heat feels close enough to touch, even standing 15 feet away. It burns clean with no lingering smell; and is momentarily blinding, obscuring the tens of thousands in the audience on the other side. When standing just down the steps from Swedish DJ sensation Alesso ‘s onstage platform, the smoke machines are louder than the music, billowing clouds forming with a hiss of intensity like a hydrant on full blast.
To stand on stage while Alesso goes to work behind four CDJs is to see just a part of a careful balancing act. The coordination between lighting, pyrotechnics, music, lights and visuals (the cycling images illuminating the wraparound screen that hugs the platform) takes place primarily over headsets, an invisible guiding hand which transforms 24-year-old Alessandro Lindblad — a slim, delicate Nineties baby — into Alesso, a DJ superstar who stands astride the world, his long hair slicked back, producing massive, moody anthems of emotional transcendence for an audience of millions.
Or so he hopes. Breaking in America, even in the wake of the EDM boom, remains a tricky maneuver for Europe’s biggest DJs. Like Sebastian Ingrosso, his mentor and member of the now-defunct Swedish House Mafia, Alesso’s profile is bigger overseas; and while he has a Las Vegas residency and no trouble packing festival stages in the States, true pop stardom currently eludes him. He’s collaborated with some of popular music’s biggest names — artists like One Republic, Ryan Tedder and Tove Lo. “Heroes (We Could Be),” his collaboration with the latter, has become his first song to reach the American Top 40.
Editor’s picks
The 250 greatest guitarists of all time, the 500 greatest albums of all time, the 50 worst decisions in movie history, every awful thing trump has promised to do in a second term.
Alesso was born in 1991 to a blonde, blue-eyed Swede and an Italian mother, neither of whom made music professionally, although his father did some DJing and dancing for fun. But as a child, Lindblad was always into music. “I used to dance, sing, you name it,” he says of his childhood in Stockholm. “Played the piano, everything.” When he was 14 or 15, he became enamored with house music through DJs like Erick Morillo, Roger Sanchez and Eric Prydz. “When I was drawn into this whole world around it,” he says, “it became like a drug to me.”
Even as a kid, Alesso felt apart from what he deems as his country’s laid-back national character. “It’s a positive thing . . . to be a typical Swede, to be very chill and be like, ‘I have my thing . . . I don’t want to work my ass off too much.’ Some people are like that and that’s great,” he says. “I’m not that guy. I’m the guy who wants to work my ass off.”
A few hours before he was scheduled to perform that night in Grant Park, Alesso and a portion of his small team navigated a white van through the congested streets of Lollapalooza weekend in downtown Chicago. He’d just arrived in the city that day: He was in the middle of a European tour and had made the trip across the world specifically for the fest. Everyone is, accidentally or intentionally, clad in black. “Team stage black” someone jokes. Alesso is slender, with skinny bird legs inside grey jeans and fashionable white hi-tops with a snakeskin texture. He wears a medium-sized silver watch; a ring; a bracelet. He has sharp facial features, and cleanly groomed scruff. His small-talk is nutritional in nature — Alesso is a recent convert to Bulletproof coffee, a recipe that incorporates butter and coconut oil, rather than the usual creamer.

Districts [ edit ]
The city is divided by the River Oka into two major parts: the Upper city ( Verkhnyaya or Nagornaya chast ) on the hilly right side and the Lower city ( Nizhnyaya or Zarechnaya chast — what literally means "the part over the river") on the left bank of the river. The Upper city is the old historical part of Nizhny Novgorod, whereas the Lower city is larger, newer and consists of more industrial districts.
Understand [ edit ]
History [ edit ]
The city was founded by Grand Duke George II of Russia in 1221 at the confluence of two most important rivers of his principality, the Volga and the Oka. Its name literally means Newtown the Lower , to distinguish it from the older Novgorod . A major stronghold for border protection, Nizhny Novgorod fortress took advantage of a natural moat formed by the two rivers.
Along with Moscow and Tver, Nizhny Novgorod was among several newly founded towns that escaped Mongol devastation on account of its insignificance and grew up into important centers of Russian political life during the period of Tatar yoke. For a short period of time it was the capital of the Suzdal Principality and competed with Moscow for the power in the region. However the competition with Moscow was lost and in 1392 the city was incorporated into Muscovy. Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin was built in 1508-1511 (under supervision of the Italian fortress engineers) and became one of the strongest Russian citadels. There is a legend saying that the project was initially developed with participation of Leonardo da Vinci. However there is no documented proof of Leonardo's work for that project, the only thing the legend is based on is the striking resemblance of Leonardo's sketches and the actual Kremlin schemes. The fortress was strong enough to withstand Tatar sieges in 1520 and 1536.
In 1612, the so-called national militia , gathered by a local merchant Kuzma Minin and commanded by Knyaz Dmitry Pozharsky expelled the Polish troops from Moscow, thus putting an end to the Time of Troubles and establishing the rule of the Romanov dynasty.
In 1817, the Makaryev Monastery Fair, one of the liveliest in the world the 16th-18th centuries, was transferred to Nizhny Novgorod, which thereupon started to attract numerous visitors and by the mid-19th century it turned Nizhny Novgorod into trade capital of the Russian Empire.
Under the Soviet period, the trade connections of the city were abandoned and Nizhny Novgorod became an important industrial centre instead. During the communist time the city was closed to foreigners to safeguard the security of Soviet military research. The physicist and the Nobel laureate Andrei Sakharov was exiled there during 1980-1986 to limit his contacts with foreigners.
Climate [ edit ]
The climate in the region is humid continental and it is similar to the climate in Moscow , although colder in winter, which lasts from late November until late March with a permanent snow cover.
By car [ edit ]
Nizhny Novgorod is situated on the M7/E30 road. The road is in decent condition, although with traffic it can take anywhere from 4 to 8 hours to drive to/from Moscow .
By boat [ edit ]
Turflot [dead link] , Infoflot , and many other companies operate multi-day river cruises down the Volga from early May to the end of September.
Many companies operate passenger boat service between Moscow and Astrakhan , with stops at most cities along the Volga River.
Get around [ edit ]
By foot [ edit ].
The city centre is compact and walkable. However, there are many inclines or steps from the river banks. The bridges are not pedestrian friendly since the sidewalk is very narrow and cars drive extremely fast close to the pedestrians.
By city rail [ edit ]
The City Rail connects areas where there are no metro lines. Connects with the subway at the Moscow railway station. It has 2 lines: Sormovskaya and Priokskaya. The fare by train costs 28 rubles. According to the Citicard Transport Card, the fare is 26 rubles. Also by train you can get to the nearest suburb, or transfer to suburban trains to Dzerzhinsk, Bor, Semenov or Arzamas.
By bus and trolleybus [ edit ]
As of May 2017 in each district of the city there are several city bus routes. The number of trolleybus routes is much less. In one district of the city there are 1-2 trolleybus routes. Trolleybus routes are completely absent in the Leninsky city district. It is worth noting that trolleybuses do not connect the Lower City to the Upper. This is because the trolleybuses do not have enough power to climb the mountain.
The trolleybus network is divided into 3 parts:
- The upper trolleybus network (it unites all three districts - Nizhegorodsky, Sovetsky and Prioksky) with a turning circle on the Minin Square, near the Kremlin.
- The lower trolleybus network (connects Kanavinsky, Moskovsky and Sormovsky districts)
- The Avtozavod trolleybus network (connects all the distant sleeping microdistricts among themselves)
By tram [ edit ]
Throughout the city, land trams run. The longest route of all is 417. It connects the outskirts of Avtozavodsky district with the Moskovsky Rail Terminal. The journey takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes. The route passes through the sleeping areas (approximately 75% of the way). Also in remote neighborhoods there are routes of several more trams, but in most cases, they are in the Upper City. By the way, you can reach there by tram 27 or 10 directly from the Moscow railway station.
By marshrutka [ edit ]
Marshrutkas do not stop at every stop. To indicate your intention to exit a marshrutka, press a button and to indicate your intention to enter a marshrutka en-route, you need to wave your hand.
By bicycle [ edit ]
Nizhny Novgorod has not very developed bicycle infrastructure. Special bike paths exist only on the Upper-Volga and Lower-Volga embankments and on Rozhdestvenskaya Street.
The upper city is very hilly and full of steep inclines and even many locals will get off their bicycles and push their bikes up the hill by foot. Drivers can be reckless and pose a danger to cyclists. The roads can also be icy during the winter. City cyclists solve this problem by replacing summer tires with winter tires.
Also, in 2017 the implementation of a new integrated transport scheme of the city began. It provides for a large number of bicycle paths in the Upper City (including on Bolshaya Pokrovskaya Street) and in the Lower City.

- A big variety of other churches and convents.

Sleep [ edit ]
All hotels and hostels offer free Wi-Fi and many have computer terminals. Almost all accept credit cards. Hotels and hostels will usually provide a visa invitation and registration for an additional fee.
Connect [ edit ]
Phone [ edit ].
For information on purchasing a SIM card in Russia, see Russia#Connect .
Note that Nizhny Novgorod is in the Volga region zone, and SIM cards purchased elsewhere, such as in Moscow or Saint Petersburg , may be subject to roaming charges.
There are payphones in the streets; however, you can only buy phone-cards in the post offices and in a few newspaper kiosks.
Internet [ edit ]
Free WiFi is available in most hotels, shopping malls, university buildings, restaurants and cafes, the airport as well as several metro stations. There is also free public WiFi on B. Pokrovskaya street.
