The Cure will embark on their first North American tour in seven years this summer as the Rock Hall-inducted band ’s Songs of a Lost World trek have added four additional dates to their previously scheduled slate of 30 shows.

Following their 2022 European jaunt, Robert Smith and company will kick off their 2023 North American dates on May 10 in New Orleans. After circling the U.S. and parts of Canada — including three-night stands at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl and New York’s Madison Square Garden — the leg concludes July 1 in Miami.

The new dates include a stop in Portland as well as additional nights in Montreal, Atlanta, and San Diego. “Please please please don’t buy tickets if you don’t intend [on] going to the show,” the band pleaded on Twitter, hoping their tickets make it into the right hands and don’t end up on secondary markets.

Fans can sign up for Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan now ahead of the on-sale dates. New dates will be available beginning Friday, April 7 at 10 a.m. local time. The fourth extra show, the Portland stop, will be “an experiment to see whether non-transferable tickets are enough protection,” thus Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan will not be required for those purchases.

Other than the Cure’s 2019 performances at their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, the Austin City Limits Festival , and their own Pasadena Daydream fest , the band last staged a North American tour in 2016.

The Cure have announced a 2023 tour of North America. Find their Shows of a Lost World dates below. The schedule comes with three dates apiece at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl and New York’s Madison Square Garden. Support on all dates comes from their longtime tourmates the Twilight Sad .

In recent years, Robert Smith has been teasing a Cure album, giving regular progress reports. In 2019, after being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame ( by Trent Reznor ), Smith said , “If I’m optimistic it will be finished before the start of this summer.” The album still hasn’t materialized.

The band’s last studio album was 2008’s 4:13 Dream . In recent years, Smith has collaborated with Gorillaz and remixed Chvrches , Deftones , and, just this week, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds . Last year, the band reissued 1992’s Wish . See where the Cure landed on Pitchfork’s list of “ The 250 Best Songs of the 1990s .”

The Cure Delivers the Remedy as ‘Songs of a Lost World Tour’ Hits San Diego

The Cure at North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre - Photos by SYLVIA BORGO

Photos and Review by SYLVIA BORGO

SAN DIEGO – The Cure delivered a captivating performance at the North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre, marking the sixth show of their highly anticipated Songs of a Lost World Tour. This tour, spanning the major North American cities, kicked off in New Orleans on May 10 and is set to conclude in Miami in early July.

The beloved UK band opened their two-night residency in San Diego with a remarkable show before heading to the Hollywood Bowl for three consecutive nights May 23 through 25.

From the moment Robert Smith stepped onto the stage, it was evident that he was in a playful and spirited mood. He gracefully walked from one side of the stage, personally greeting the fans and warmly welcoming them to the show. Waving his hands and scanning the crowd, he established a connection with the audience right from the start.

The setlist showcased a perfect blend of new songs and long-standing favorites, creating an atmosphere of nostalgia and excitement. The initial portion of the set featured tracks like “Alone,” “A Night Like This,” and “And Nothing is Forever,” alongside top hits “Pictures of You” and “Lovesong.” These timeless classics elicited big cheers from the crowd, setting the stage for a truly unforgettable night.

The more introspective and emotive segment of the set left a lasting impression on the audience. The poignant combination of “Endsong” “It Can Never Be the Same,” “A Thousand Hours,” and “A Strange Day” showcased the band’s ability to create deeply moving experiences. The stunning visuals that accompanied these songs enhanced the overall impact. One of the evening’s highlights was the performance of “I Can Never Say Goodbye,” a song written by Smith for his brother Richard.

During the heartfelt rendition of “A Thousand Hours,” Robert Smith sang without his guitar at the beginning of the song. Standing in the center of the stage he expertly reined the amphithearter with simply his voice. It was a remarkable moment of vulnerability and raw emotion.

The concert reached its pinnacle during the performance of the band’s massive hits. The energetic sequence featuring “Hot! Hot! Hot!,” “The Walk,” and “Friday I’m in Love” electrified the atmosphere, prompting fans to rise to their feet and dance. The audience immersed themselves in the music and the band’s infectious energy.

The night also featured a standout performance by the supporting act, The Twilight Sad. Lead vocalist James Graham, accompanied by the cohesive unit of Andy MacFarlane, Grant Hutchison, Johnny Docherty, and Brendan Smith, delivered a powerful set. Their steady percussive elements and skillfully crafted wall of sound captivated the audience, filling the expansive North Island Credit Union Amphitheater with a moving and immersive sonic experience.

The Cure have expanded their 2023 “Songs Of A Lost World” North American tour by announcing additional dates in San Diego, Montreal, and Atlanta, as well as a new show in Portland, Oregon. Frontman Robert Smith has also teased that concerts in Mexico and South America will be revealed later this month.

The newly announced dates are The Cure’s latest efforts to get tickets in the hands of fans following a frustrating initial on-sale process. Fans who were previously issued verified fan codes but who were unable to buy tickets to shows in San Diego, Montreal, and Atlanta will have first crack at tickets for the new dates.

“Songs Of A Lost World” marks The Cure’s first North American tour in seven. The band originally attempted to make their shows as affordable as possible by offering zero “platinum” or “dynamically priced” tickets, and also only limited their sales to those registered as Ticketmaster Verified Fans in an attempt to prevent scalping.  A Verified Fan pre-sale for new shows in San Diego, Montreal, and Atlanta go on sale beginning Friday, April 7. Any remaining tickets will be made available to the general public on Saturday, April 8. Tickets to the Portland show go on sale on April 7.

The Cure Announces 2023 North American Tour

The Cure  has announced tour dates that will bring them to the U.S. for the first time since 2019.

The Lost World Tour will kick off on May 10 in New Orleans and continue through summer, coming to a close on July 1 in Miami. Along the way, the band will appear in major cities like Dallas, Seattle, Denver, Chicago and Toronto, plus perform two three-night runs in Los Angeles and New York City.

You can see a complete list of dates below.

Tickets will be available via Ticketmaster's verified fan sale program  beginning on March 15. In a statement, the Cure noted that "apart from a few Hollywood Bowl charity seats, there will be no 'platinum' or 'dynamically priced' tickets on this tour."

The alternative legends have been off the road since wrapping up a fall European tour last year. The run was their first since the pandemic and featured the debut of material from the band's long-delayed new album.

According to frontman Robert Smith, the Cure has recorded at least 20 songs for two prospective albums. In April 2022, he told  NME  that the first one is tentatively titled  Songs of a Lost World . It marks the band's first studio album since 2008.

Guitarist Reeves Gabrels previously told UCR that the Cure had amassed a wealth of recordings during the pandemic that could fill up to three albums. "We were overproductive," Gabrels said. "Which is great, except it means you really can't judge the songs until you get them close to finished. You kinda have to bring all that material up to the point where you can hear what they are."

Smith had hinted in a  2021 interview that the upcoming songs could be the end of new music by the band. “The new Cure stuff is very emotional,” he revealed to  The Sunday Times . “It’s 10 years of life distilled into a couple of hours of intense stuff. I can’t think we’ll ever do anything else.”

Tickets for all 30 dates will go on sale via Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan program beginning March 15; pre-registration is required and registration will close on March 13 at 10 a.m. PT. In the wake of ticket sale snafus affecting Taylor Swift and Bad Bunny onsales, in a message to fans, the Cure wrote, “we have priced tickets to benefit fans and our efforts to block scalpers and limited inflated resale prices are being supported by our ticketing partners.”

At press time there was no information about new music from the band, though Smith has been promising a follow-up to 2008’s 4:13 Dream for several years .

The Cure is hitting the road for a North American trek that includes three dates each at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl and New York’s Madison Square Garden. This will be the first time the band plays any North American shows since its 2019 festival appearances and its first tour in the region since 2016.

Following a slate of 2022 European concerts, the Cure’s “Shows of a Lost World” tour will kick off on May 10 in New Orleans and hit 30 stops across the U.S. and Canada with a closing show on July 1 in Miami. The Cure will be supported by Scottish post-punk band the Twilight Sad at all shows. See the full lineup below.

Though the band’s last studio album was 2008’s “4:13 Dream,” frontman Robert Smith has regularly teased a new body of work from the band throughout the past few years. Last year, the band reissued 1992’s “Wish,” and Smith most recently remixed Noel Gallagher’s “Pretty Boy” single.

The Cure Add New Dates to North American Tour

New shows in San Diego, Montreal, Atlanta, and Portland, along with the promise of a visit to Mexico and Latin America

The Cure Add New Dates to North American Tour

Meanwhile, the band is using its May 31st concert in Portland as an “experiment” to see whether simply have a non-transferable ticket policy sans the usage of Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan experience will provide enough protection.

Despite these efforts, many fans were shut out of tickets , while others were subject to “unduly high” transaction fees (leading Smith to compel Ticketmaster to offer partial refunds ). As of last week, the band had canceled 7,000 tickets to the tour that were obtained through scalpers.

A Verified Fan pre-sale for new shows in San Diego, Montreal, and Atlanta go on sale beginning Friday, April 7th; any remaining tickets will be made available to the general public on Saturday, April 8th. Tickets to the Portland show go on sale on April 7th via Ticketmaster .

In a tweet , Smith asks fans to “PLEASE PLEASE DON’T BUY TICKETS IF YOU DON’T INTEND GOING TO THE SHOW!!!!”

Update: Robert Smith issued a status report on ticket availabilities via Twitter on May 3rd along with a tease for a future South American leg featuring shows in Argentina, Brazil, and more. “SORTING OUT THE DEALS IS TAKING A BIT LONGER THAN I THOUGHT IT WOULD,” he shared. “MORE DETAILS WHEN THEY EXIST.”

The Cure adds 4 more North American concerts; dates in Mexico, South America to come

The Cure today expanded its Shows of a Lost World 2023 tour by adding four additional North American dates, including second concerts in San Diego, Montreal and Atlanta, plus a new stop in Portland, Oregon, that bandleader Robert Smith says is an “experiment” to see whether simply using non-transferrable tickets is “enough protection” to keep seats out of the hands of scalpers.

The new concerts are set for May 21 in San Diego, May 31 in Portland, June 17 in Montreal and June 28 in Atlanta, the band announced this morning on social media .

Anyone with previously issued, but unused, Ticketmaster Verified Fan presale codes “from any market” will have the first crack at tickets for San Diego, Montreal and Atlanta, the band says. That presale begins at 10 a.m. local time Friday, April 7, with a limit of four non-transferrable tickets per person.

“Please, please, please don’t buy tickets if you don’t intend going (sic) to the show,” Smith writes on Twitter.

If tickets remain to those concerts after the Verified Fan presale, a public on-sale is set for 10 a.m. local time on Saturday, April 8.

Additionally, non-transferrable tickets for the new Portland show will go on sale at 10 a.m. local time Friday, April 7, with no Verified Fan presale. See thecure.com for more details.

FOUR EXTRA SHOWS ADDED TO OUR ’SHOWS OF A LOST WORLD’ NORTH AMERICAN TOUR – THREE OF THEM ARE ‘EXTRA NIGHTS’ – 21ST MAY SAN DIEGO / 17TH JUNE MONTREAL / 28TH JUNE ATLANTA #ShowsOfALostWorld2023 1/5 pic.twitter.com/BDVMGBnNXB — The Cure (@thecure) April 5, 2023

Smith also revealed, in a tweet on Tuesday , that The Cure is planning to play in Mexico “and seven of the 12 sovereign states of South America” — the details of which will be announced before the end of this month.

The Shows of a Lost World tour will find Smith joined by his longest-serving bandmate, bassist Simon Gallup, as well as drummer Jason Cooper, keyboardist Roger O’Donnell and guitarist Reeves Gabrels. Smith surprised fans last fall by bringing back guitarist/keyboardist Perry Bamonte, who played in the band from 1990 to 2005.

The Cure announced what initially was a 30-date North American tour on March 9, and spelled out efforts to thwart scalpers and try to keep tickets affordable — including by barring the transfer of tickets, prohibiting resale above face value and the use of the  Ticketmaster Verified Fan system.

When tickets went on sale, though, sky-high demand meant many fans were shut out from even getting codes to access the presale that began March 15 — and through which it seemed most of the seats available at the 30 shows were sold. Fans also grumbled as the band’s attempts to keep prices low were met with services fees that, in the most extreme cases , exceeded ticket prices.

By the time the general on-sale rolled around on March 17, Smith had secured partial refunds of Ticketmaster’s “unduly high” fees that he had felt “sickened” by. Still, by the Friday general on-sale, the majority of tickets already had been sold and buyers quickly snatched up most of what was left.

Smith has urged fans to use face value exchanges like  twickets.live  if they need to buy or sell tickets, and repeatedly has asked fans not to buy tickets to the shows in Denver, New York City and Chicago from ticket brokers, as they are in states with “laws protecting scalpers.” According to Ticketmaster, it those three states, “state law prohibits artists from restricting resale.”

Last week, Smith announced that he’d been informed that approximately 7,000 tickets to the band’s North American tour have been canceled because they were bought with “fake accounts” or listed on the secondary market. A day earlier,  Smith had tweeted  about how ticket scalpers were getting around The Cure’s attempt to limit the digital transfer of tickets by reselling entire Ticketmaster accounts, with tickets included — a method  detailed by Vice’s Motherboard in an extensive article  last month.

All tickets bought that way,  Smith continued , will be canceled and the original fees won’t be refunded — instead the fees will be donated to Amnesty International, “and the tickets themselves will be resold to fans.”

The 7,000 canceled tickets were linked to 2,200 individual orders, Smith wrote on Friday. “These are tickets acquired with fake accounts/listed on secondary resale sites,” he wrote. Any fans who believe their tickets have been “wrongly canceled” should contact Ticketmaster via  @TMFanSupport  on Twitter, Smith added.

The Twilight Sad Conect Festival 2022

Who Is Opening The Cure’s 2023 Tour?

Flisadam Pointer

Last year, The Cure’s frontman Robert Smith announced a new album was in the works. Although the rock band didn’t drop a project of original music, they did share a remastered version of their breakout album, Wish , to celebrate its 30th anniversary. Now, the group is heading out on their first North American tour since 2016 .

Kicking off in New Orleans in May, supporting them on tour is Scottish post-punk band The Twilight Sad . Consisting of vocalist James Graham, guitarist Andy MacFarlane, bassist Johnny Docherty, keyboardist Brendan Smith, and drummer Grant Hutchison, the group has successfully toured with The Cure in the past, as recently as 2016, for international dates.

While The Twilight Sad hasn’t reached peak popularity in the States, alternative music fans consider their 2014 album, It Won’t Be Like This All The Time , to be groundbreaking in the indie rock scene. The Twilight Sad and The Cure’s discography pair well with each other, making them ideal for touring companions.
