The Script Announce Headline Australian Tour for 2022

Dublin trio The Script have announced they’ll return to Australia next year for their first headline tour of the country in four years. The run of arena dates will kick off in September 2022, with stops booked in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth.

The band will be touring in celebration of  Tales from the Script: Greatest Hits , a compilation that’s set to arrive tomorrow, cataloguing hits from across the band’s career like ‘Breakeven’, ‘The Man Who Can’t Be Moved’, ‘For the First Time’, ‘Superheroes’ and will.i.am collaboration ‘Hall of Fame’.

The shows will see The Script performing a slew of classics from across their discography, along with tracks from their most recent studio album, 2019’s  Sunsets & Full Moons .

The Script announce Australian ‘Greatest Hits’ tour for 2022

It’ll be the folk-rock mainstays’ tenth stint on local soil, having first made the trek over in 2008

The Script have announced a four-date run of Australian headline shows for 2022, set to go down next September.

The tour will kick off on Thursday September 15 with a show at Brisbane’s Riverstage, before moving down the east coast with shows in Sydney and Melbourne. It’ll wrap up the following Tuesday (September 20) when The Script headline Perth’s RAC Arena.

Tickets for all four shows go on sale next Friday (October 8) at 11am local time, with a presale being run via Frontier Touring for the 24 hours prior.

It’ll be the folk-rock mainstays’ tenth stint on local soil, having first made the trek over in 2008 with their eponymous debut album. For this run – their first since 2018 – they’ll be touring in support of a greatest hits compilation, ‘Tales From The Script’, which is due to land tomorrow (October 1) on Sony.

In addition to the new single ‘I Want It All’, the 17-track release features a slate of the band’s most popular songs, drawing from all six of their studio albums. It also includes an acoustic version of the track ‘Never Seen Anything “Quite Like You”’, pulled from their 2018 ‘Acoustic Sessions’ EP.

In a press release shared when The Script announced the UK leg of their tour , frontman Danny O’Donoghue described ‘Tales From The Script’ as “a springboard to our next chapter, but it’s also our story so far”. He added: “We’re so excited to be taking it on the road. I know I’m gonna lose it on stage, night after night.”

Drummer/bassist Glen Power echoed his comments, saying: “We’re taking all the best songs and playing them all together in one place. It will turn it into a celebration that we’ve survived and we’ve all got through to this moment together.”

The Script: Greatest Hits Tour 2022, Sidney Myer Music Bowl, Melbourne, September 17, 2022 – Live Review

It’s been four years since The Script last visited Australia. After having their tour interrupted by Covid, The Script have finally made their triumphant return, this time performing their ‘ Greatest Hits Tour 2022’ to promote their latest album ‘Tales from the Script’ , and at the iconic Sidney Myer Music Bowl in Melbourne.

The Script members Danny O’Donoghue and Glen Power , alongside their touring bandmates, really appeared to be genuinely chuffed be back on stage performing in Melbourne, just as much as fans were to see them. Lining up for hours and braving the pouring rain, nothing was going to keep these excited fans from seeing their favourite Irish band. Some patrons were even super-prepared, already donned in ponchos to protect themselves from the elements.

For me, this was a new experience, as this was my first time seeing The Script . And while there were many long-time fans in the audience, there were also many, like me, attending and seeing The Script perform live for the first time.

Kicking off with ‘Superheroes’ , complete with confetti, streamers, and the occasional firework, every song was a joy to listen to. Some of the standout songs of the night included ‘Rain’ , ironic considering fans were previously drenched in it, ‘Paint the Town Green’ an energetic tune that is a hymn to The Script ’s homeland, and ‘The Man Who Can’t Be Moved’ , the first ever song I remember listening to by The Script .

The Script joined the audience for two numbers, the first being ‘If You Could See Me Now’ , and I really couldn’t, as the band were among the audience on the side of the venue that was obstructed from my view.

The other song ‘Nothing’ , where Danny requested a fan to call an ex-partner so he could sing them a song via video call. Fellow patron, Georgia was quick to call her ex-boyfriend Josh, which then had Danny singing to the phone, ending the call prompting audiences to say, “Goodbye asshole!” and then Danny saying “See ya, fucker!” before the phone call ended. Personally, I found this quite puzzling, as I believe it would be nicer to call someone you love and create a wholesome moment. But I suppose vengeance is just as fun, and if this was not an act of poetic justice, then I don’t know what is.

Every moment with The Script felt like a fun almost religious singalong experience and it didn’t matter if you didn’t know all the words, nor if you could sing any of them in tune. I was surprised by how diverse their audience was too, differing from families, a group of friends, and couples – people of all ages and from all works of life. While a handful were sadly glued to their phones and spent the entirety of the time watching the concert through a screen ( something I’ve never understood ), the majority were living in the moment and Danny gratefully acknowledged this.

The band also thanked the crowd for their patience and attendance after all these years and earnestly stated that this Melbourne show was “the best outdoor show we’ve done” with ‘absolute scenes’ , while liking the phone lights of the crowd to stars.

By the final three songs of the encore, the entire venue was up on their feet for ‘No Good In Goodbye ’ , crowd favourite ‘Breakeven’ , and final hit number ‘Hall of Fame ’ . It felt like time had rushed by so quickly during the concert and suddenly, it was all over.

I know it’s taken me a long time to see this crowd-pleasing band perform live, but despite the rain, the pain from standing, and the cold, the wait for The Script was worth it. As much as The Script believe that Melbourne is “fucking amazing” (their words), I left the Sidney Myer Music Bowl thinking pretty much the same about them. Hopefully it won’t be another long four years before they return.

The Script Announce Australian Tour for 2022

Dublin three-piece band, The Script , is heading back to Australia, four years since their last headline shows down under.  The group will touch down next September for four stellar performances in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth as part of their Greatest Hits Tour 2022 .

Kicking off on Thursday 15 September 2022 at Riverstage,  Brisbane  the tour will head to  Sydney ’s Aware Super Theatre on Friday 16 September, then to Sidney Myer Music Bowl  Melbourne  on Saturday 17 September before wrapping up at  Perth ’s RAC Arena on Tuesday 20 September.

The group will be touring in celebration of their Tales From The Script: Greatest Hits album (out tomorrow October 1 through Sony Music Australia), a compilation of their biggest hits and fan favourites from their six studio albums so far.

The Script tour 2022: Tickets and venues for The Script's Greatest Hits Tour

This is their first run of live dates in over two years, and the includes a huge London show at The O2 and culminates with two homecoming performances at Dublin’s 3Arena.

The Script celebrate a journey that has included five UK #1 albums, six billion streams, and over two million ticket sales with the release of the career-spanning greatest hits album ‘Tales From The Script’ on October 1st.

The celebrations will extend deep into 2022 with the confirmation of a huge UK and European Greatest Hits Tour, which includes a huge London show at The O2 and culminates with two homecoming performances at Dublin’s 3Arena.

The Script will be joined by special guest Ella Henderson on their UK and Ireland arena dates.

‘Tales From The Script’ compiles all of the biggest hits and fan favourites from their six albums so far, and honours everything that the trio - Danny O’Donoghue, Glen Power and Mark Sheehan - have achieved together since forming fourteen years ago.

Priscilla, Queen of the Desert sequel is happening — complete with its original stars, director says

Stephan Elliott revealed that Hugo Weaving, Guy Pearce, and Terence Stamp — who played the original film's fabulous trio of drag queens — are all "onboard."

Director Stephan Elliott says a sequel to his Oscar-winning 1994 film, The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, is on the way — and its original stars Hugo Weaving , Terence Stamp , and Guy Pearce are all “onboard” to reprise their roles. Elliott — who will serve as writer, director, and producer on the project — told The Guardian Australia that the movie's script is already completed but that negotiations with production companies and financiers are still underway. 

Elliott was initially opposed to penning a sequel to the cult classic, which follows three drag queens — Anthony "Tick" Belrose/Mitzi Del Bra (Weaving), Adam Whitely/Felicia Jollygoodfellow (Pearce), and trans woman Bernadette Bassenger (Stamp) — as they drive a tour bus named Priscilla from Sydney to Alice Springs in Australia. However, the director changed his tune, realizing, “I had something that needed to be said.”

“People have been screaming for me to do this for 30 years. And suddenly I had the realization that we’re all getting old. We’re losing people,” he told the outlet. “And with Trump coming in now — it’s all about to erupt again. Somebody said to me, ‘Is this the right time to make this film?’ I said, ‘It is the perfect time to make this film.’”

Elliott revealed that he spent five years writing the sequel's script and credited the loss of his father and mother, who died in 2020 and 2023, for pushing him to finally finish it. 

“This is not a dire story — it is pretty extravagant," he said. "I’m going to give RuPaul a run for her money, let me tell you that. But I don’t want to repeat myself, so it’s taken me a long while to come up with something, to realize that there’s something that needs to be said about tolerance.”

Elliott noted that Stamp, now 85, also thinks the trio have more stories to tell. “It took him a long time to think about it until he got there,” the director recalled, “but eventually he said to me, ‘You know what? You’re right. We’re not finished yet. The story is untold.’”

He also gave a brief tease of what fans can expect from the forthcoming film. “You have to remember that Tick had a kid — now that kid has grown up, and now he’s got his own family,” Elliott said. “We have our three principals, but we have to build in the new world.”

And yes, Priscilla will return too — especially because the bus was recently discovered in New South Wales after going missing shortly after shooting wrapped decades ago.

"When the bus surfaced it felt like, 'Is this some kind of celestial lineup?'" Elliott said. "There's lots of work to be done. But we're off."

Representatives for Elliott, Weaving, Stamp, and Pearce did not immediately respond to EW's request for comment.

Deadline was the first to report the news of the sequel.
