The annual Trip Out: Choppers, bands and more
The Trip Out , now in its sixth year, is an experience not to be missed. Harking back to those halcyon days of the 60s and 70s when the chopper was king, metal flake ruled and freedom was everything, it’s an antidote to modern trends.
The event welcomes everyone with open arms and the brotherhood is truly international, with regular visitors from Australia, Japan and the west coast of the US, not to mention a vast European contingent. It’s not an event for posers; these are builders and enthusiasts with a real passion for traditional choppers and bobbers. That said, the atmosphere is totally inclusive, so ride-up on whatever you’ve got and join in the fun.
The bikes in the arena are the real deal – hardtails are de rigueur, as are extended forks, narrow seats and skimpy fuel tanks. Many have a drum front brake (if any at all) and almost everything has a kickstart. Most of the hundred or so bikes featured are ridden to the rally, no mean feat when you consider the unusual ergonomics and reliability issues of vintage custom machines.

As if the bikes and camaraderie aren’t enough to occupy the thousands who flock to this event, a full package of entertainment runs right through the weekend. Bands and DJs rock until the early hours and for those who want to kick back, a selection of cult road movies are screened in the cinema – plus there’s the all important chill-out tent.
Daytime distractions feature some seriously gnarly skateboarding, a kickstart competition with Le Mans style start, award-winning tattooists and of course the biker build off.
This year’s Trip Out is taking place at Bentwaters Park near Ipswich, once known as RAF Bentwaters and location of one of the UK’s most famous UFO sightings, the infamous Rendlesham Forest incident.

What to Know About Venice’s Fees for Day Trips
Venice is trying to mitigate overtourism with a small fee on busy days. City leaders hope it will make visitors more aware of the city’s fragility.
By Elisabetta Povoledo
Reporting from Rome
After years of debate , Venice on Thursday began charging day visitors five euros to visit its fragile historic center on peak days, making it the first city in the world to adopt such a measure to counter overtourism.
Critics question whether a nominal fee will put people off from visiting one of the world’s most desired destinations. But officials hope that it might encourage some to rethink their plans and decide to come on weekdays or in the off-season.
That might help mitigate the impact of the estimated 20 million visitors who descended last year on the city’s beleaguered residents, who number fewer than 50,000, according to municipal statistics . About half of those visitors came only for the day, city officials said. Overnight guests are exempt from the fee.
The spirit of the initiative, city officials have said, is to make people aware of the uniqueness — and fragility — of Venice. Overtourism is creating an economy solely based on tourism that risks killing the city by pushing its dwindling residents out, said Nicola Camatti, an economics professor and expert in tourism at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice.
When will Venice start charging?
The fee went into effect on Thursday, a holiday in Italy. For 2024, city officials have singled out 29 peak days when single-day travelers in Venice between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. have to pay. The days run until mid-July and are mostly on national holidays and weekends. The access-fee website provides a list of the dates.
Who must pay?
While just about everyone visiting the city has to register to obtain a QR code, not all visitors have to pay the fee. Overnight guests at registered accommodations like hotels or Airbnbs are exempt, because they already pay a daily tourist tax, as are people who study or work in Venice and those visiting relatives. There are other exemptions as well.
Residents of Venice, those born there and minors under 14 are among those who do not have to register. But they must have documents that prove their status.
It is possible that different fees will apply next year on a sliding scale that will depend on how many people city officials expect on any one day. City officials said the fees could be as high as 10 euros per day.
How will the system work?
Before coming to Venice on peak days, visitors should use the website to register and get a QR code.
The code will be scanned at points where visitors enter, like the train station, the city parking lot, the airport and the sprawling waterfront along the San Marco basin where boats dock. The access points will have one line for tourists and another for residents and what officials call city users, who are coming into Venice for reasons other than sightseeing.
At least for now, those who do not register ahead of time can do so at some access points or on their cellphones, officials said. Assistants will be available.
Initially, the controls will be “very soft,” said Michele Zuin, the municipal councilor responsible for the city’s budget.
Speaking to reporters at the foreign press association in Rome this month, Mayor Luigi Brugnaro said the fee was not about cashing in on tourists. “The costs of the operation are higher than what we’re going to make,” he said.
Why is Venice doing this?
City officials hope to relieve some of the stress that tourists put on the city by encouraging them to come on less busy days. They also say that by knowing ahead of time how many visitors to expect, the city can better deploy services.
“We want to better manage the numbers of tourists and disincentivize mass tourism” that makes it difficult for residents and visitors to “live in this city,” Mr. Zuin said this month.
To track the flow of visitors, the city already monitors them via phone location data and surveillance cameras, a system some critics have likened to Big Brother .
Venice has also fallen under the scrutiny of the United Nations’ culture agency, UNESCO, whose experts are concerned that not enough is being done to protect the city. Last year, Venice risked being added to UNESCO’s list of Endangered World Heritage Sites after experts at the agency listed mass tourism , along with climate change and development, as a major threat to its future. It urged City Hall to take steps to ameliorate the damage.
The municipal council approved the access fee just days before UNESCO was to vote on its status, and Venice stayed off the “in danger” list . But UNESCO officials said in a statement that “further progress still needs to be made” to conserve Venice.
Critics of the access fee note that officials have not capped the number of visitors, and they say that the nominal fee is hardly a deterrent. As recently as Friday, city officials said that about 80,000 visitors swelled the city’s narrow calli, as the streets are known, and the gardens of the 2024 Venice Biennale , still the world’s principal place to discover new art .
How else is Venice trying to restrict visitors?
Venice also has taken other steps it hopes will reduce what city officials call “mordi e fuggi” tourism, or “eat and flee,” referring to those who seek the city’s greatest hits — the Rialto Bridge and St. Mark’s Square — and who bring packed lunches and dump their garbage, contributing little to the local economy.
After years of heated debate and protests by vocal Venetians, the city banned cruise ships from its inner canals in 2021 , though Mr. Camatti, the tourism expert, said the ban on the ships had not reduced the number of day visitors.
This year, the city imposed a limit of 25 people per tour group and also banned the use of megaphones.

Tom Brady accused of ruining collectibles with shoddy autograph at $3,600 event: 'It's horrible'
Seven-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback Tom Brady left collectors who paid $3,600 for his autograph disgruntled after they alleged his sloppy penmanship ruined pieces of treasured memorabilia.
"It's the same thing as being in a graveyard or cemetery and knocking over stones or defacing them," memorabilia collector Glenn Gagnon told USA TODAY. "That's what Brady did."
The former New England Patriots footballer was a guest speaker on Saturday at a conference for EXMA , a global marketing education platform, held at the University of Miami's Watsco Center, according to the company's website.
On the flyer for the event, EXMA promoted a photo and signature opportunity with the 46-year-old former pro athlete. The flyer also said the event included a three-hour yacht ride to view the Miami skyline, a VVIP party and a VIP lunch for attendees who paid for a $3,600 ticket. The additional events occurred throughout the weekend.
Gagnon and other memorabilia collectors paid for the pricey tickets. Gagnon, who lives in Methuen, Massachusetts, felt his items were "defaced" and "ruined" by Brady.
NFL DRAFT HUB: Latest NFL Draft mock drafts, news, live picks, grades and analysis.
USA TODAY contacted Brady's reps on Wednesday but did not receive a response.
Glenn Gagnon, son paid $18,000 for trip to EXMA conference
Gagnon, 58, and his 21-year-old son traveled to Miami together and paid $18,000 for the trip, including the cost of Brady's autographs.
"My son never met (Brady) and the whole nine yards," Gagnon said. "It's horrible, I'd rather have (Brady) reject the stuff."
The memorabilia Gagnon brought to the event included a seat back from Gillette Stadium designed for owner Robert Kraft in 2002, Brady's game-worn cleats from the 2018 NFL season and an unused book of New England Patriots tickets from the 2001-02 season he called "priceless" due to only two being in existence.
"These pieces were like the holy grail of my collection," Gagnon said. "... I've been collecting for 40 years. I am a diehard collector."
Gagnon said he did not see Brady sign the items, instead, he and other collectors waited while the retired quarterback went into a room with his reps and Fernando Anzures, EXMA's founder and CEO, to do the autographs.
'This is something like a 4-year-old did'
Gagnon said he's gotten free autographs from Brady at benefits and other free events, but after paying $3,600, he expected better.
"That's a free autograph, (so) that's the risk you take," the collector said. "There's no risk in what we did. Everything was going right, and then we get the stuff and it's like, 'What is this.' This is something like a 4-year-old did."
Beckett Collectibles rejected the signed memorabilia after Gagnon gave it to them for authentication, according to the collector.
Gagnon said he would have preferred a partial refund from EXMA to cover travel expenses.
'Simply inexcusable,' EXMA event attendee says
Greg Nazareth, another collector who attended the event, said Saturday in a Facebook post that what happened the day of the signing was "simply inexcusable."
"Now don’t get me wrong, Tom’s interview and talk was simply amazing….he exuded poise, cursed quite a bit making him feel like one of us, and was incredibly humble…if only that would have translated to what he did just an hour earlier when he signed our items," Nazareth's post said.
The items Nazareth brought in "probably totaled close to six figures in value, and were one of one items in totality," according to the Facebook post.
"All in all, I would have never paid $3,600 to receive the signature I got today on the items I brought," Nazareth said in the post.
Collector Brad Jarrett felt similarly to Nazareth and Gagnon, saying Monday in a Facebook post he still blames "Tom a lot for this." Jarret went to the event to have Brady's 2000 NFL Draft ticket signed, according to the post.
"Tom let his emotions get the best of him and didn’t hurt the promoters he hurt those of us who were there with items," Jarrett said in the post. "He could’ve easily refused to sign, he could’ve signed only items that matched what he was contracted to sign. What he didn’t have to do though was put squibbles on everyone’s items and ruin them, that was a choice Tom made and it was wrong and makes him just as accountable as the shady promoters of this event."
'I'm trying to fix it,' EXMA founder and CEO says
Fernando Anzures told USA TODAY on Wednesday that he's "not an expert" but he welcomed cooperating with fans of Brady who were displeased by the signing.
"If they were there, they are fans," EXMA's CEO said. "I'm going to do my best."
Anzures said he's "not the one signing" the autographs but wants to support the collectors' grievances in "any possible way." Anzures said the disgruntled collectors were a small portion of the 93 tickets he sold to the $3,600 event; about 80 of those attendees said they were "so happy" about how the weekend of events went.
The 2,400 people in attendance were "showing love to Tom Brady" because he helped deliver an "amazing and outstanding conference," according to Anzures.
Regarding refunds, Anzures said he did issue them for collectors who brought trading cards because Brady's contract with EXMA stipulated that the quarterback could deny signing certain items.
"I'm trying to fix it," Anzures said. "I don't know what is the solution because I don't know what is the problem, but I'm hoping to receive every phone call."
Once Anzures speaks to the concerned collectors and others unhappy about the signing, he plans to message the agency repping Brady to solve the problem.
"I'm trying to make this happen," Anzures said.

Team Building Activities
Company outing ideas.
Team-building activities and games boost morale, break down barriers, and create a supportive and pleasant environment to work in.
As people with different backgrounds, needs, ambitions, and personalities make up teams, their group performance improves, resulting in smoother operations and enhanced business productivity.
Team-building activities also help to break down silos that may be detrimental to business performance.
Furthermore, they foster diversity and inclusion (D&I) by promoting collaboration, mutual understanding, and appreciation of individual differences. Activities create opportunities for employees from diverse backgrounds to work together, reduce biases, and build a more cohesive team.

1. Improved Communication Skills
Engaging in activities encourages employees to open up, leading to an atmosphere of open communication, which improves understanding and collaboration.
2. Enhanced Productivity
Better communication has a domino effect on productivity levels. When your employees work together and communicate, there is less work duplication and less friction between workers.
3. Identification of Strengths and Weaknesses
Managers get to see employees in action. Who performs better under pressure? Who holds everyone together? Who leads the pack? Qualities shine, and new leaders are discovered.
4. Higher Employee Retention
Companies that invest time and money in team-building activities enjoy higher employee satisfaction and team camaraderie, resulting in low turnover rates.
In recent HubSpot research , we discovered that marketing leaders are concerned about quiet quitting and find it unacceptable, even though 57% say it is happening in their organization.
They view it as a sign of poor work ethic, though they also recognize it is their responsibility to prevent and address it by boosting morale, encouraging work-life balance, and supporting workers’ mental health.
5. Enhanced Creativity
Employees get creative. They think outside the box and explore new approaches to problem-solving.
Before planning any team-building activities, it’s important to take specific variables into account for a successful outing.
1. Define your goals.
Determine what you want to achieve during team-building events. Have a clear goal in mind, whether it’s improving communication, fostering collaboration, or enhancing problem-solving skills. Align activities with your desired outcomes.
2. Set a budget.
Set aside a budget and plan activities accordingly. Pick activities that serve the purpose without exceeding financial constraints.
3. Set up a planning and execution team.
Hire professional facilitators who possess the expertise to plan and lead the event effectively. You’ll need moderators who can ensure activities are executed properly and help derive meaningful insights from the experience.
4. Make it inclusive.
Ensure you design inclusive and suitable activities for all employees.
Take into account the cultural backgrounds of diverse employees and the physical restrictions of disabled employees. Select activities and venues accordingly.
For example, choosing a venue that is inaccessible to disabled employees can have a counterproductive effect.
5. Select the right activities.
Consider the interests and preferences of your team members when selecting activities while ensuring they align with your goals. Choose activities that are interactive and build collaboration among employees.
6. Get your timing right.
Pick a time that works for all employees without causing disruptions to business operations. Also, take weather conditions and season into account, especially when planning outdoor activities.
7. Choose a good location.
Select a convenient location and arrange the necessary logistics in advance to ensure a smooth and comfortable experience.
8. Market the event internally.
Marketing the event internally will elevate its significance and help create a memorable experience. Creating and sharing an “Event Day Agenda” that showcases all activities increases anticipation and gets folks excited.
9. Follow up and gather feedback.
Include a follow-up process to evaluate the impact of the activities on team dynamics and productivity. You can then use this feedback to improve future activities.

Are you thinking of launching a trip planning startup or actively working on one? Travelers use dozens of websites and apps while planning their trips, frantically brainstorming ideas, comparing prices and compiling options into spreadsheets. There simply must be a better way, right?
Trip planners have been the holy grail of travel entrepreneurs for decades and Phocuswright has received thousands of pitches for them. Biden highlights chip investments during New York trip
During a trip Thursday to Syracuse, N.Y., President Biden touted up to $6.1 billion in federal grants to Micron Technology, part of an ongoing effort to bolster the nation’s supply of semiconductors. The funding is the result of the bipartisan Chips and Science Act passed in 2022, which Biden is highlighting ahead of November’s general election against former president Donald Trump.

Kim Kardashian Throws Up a Peace Sign Following White House Visit With Vice President Kamala Harris
Kim Kardashian celebrated her recent trip to the White House by breaking out her signature millennial pout for the ultimate selfie.
“Can’t wait to share all about the second chances event today at the White House,” Kardashian, 43, wrote via her Instagram Story on Thursday, April 25. “Thank you, Madame Vice President.”
The Kardashians star thew up a peace sign as she posed for a picture on the lawn outside the historic Washington, D.C. site. She also puckered her lips while giving her followers a glimpse at the president’s workplace.
Kardashian wore a black blazer with her long brunette locks falling softly around her face. She topped off the look with a golden eyeshadow and nude lip.

A few hours prior, Kardashian shared a picture of the President of the United States’ (who is currently Joe Biden ) seal from the Oval Office. The reality star also gave a closer view of the White House itself and the lush greenery that surrounds the massive building.
Kardashian was on site to meet with Vice President Kamala Harris , who was hosting a criminal justice reform meeting in the Roosevelt Room. The roundtable discussion also included White House public engagement director Steve Benjamin and several recently pardoned former inmates.
“I want to thank Kim for your advocacy and for using your platform in a way that has really lifted up the importance of talking about and being dedicated to second chances,” Harris kicked off the meeting, according to a video shared by the White House.
Kardashian first visited 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue during President Donald Trump ’s term in 2018 to discuss prison reform , sentencing and ask that he grant clemency to a first-time drug offender. Trump, 77, later pardoned Alice Marie Johnson , and Kardashian has continued to work to help others in similar situations get justice.
During this week’s meeting, Kardashian commented on Biden’s Wednesday, April 25, decision to grant clemency to 16 inmates. He pardoned 11 of the prisoners and commuted the sentences of the remaining five .
“I am super honored to be here to hear your stories today and I think it’s so important to share them and amplify them because there are so many people that are in your position that could use the inspiration,” Kardashian said according to USA Today , looking to the four former inmates that were on hand of the discussion. “I’m just here to help and spread the word.”
The Skims founder later reflected on her work as an advocate for the wrongfully imprisoned, saying, “It was actually in this very room that I was in years ago, my first clemency meeting, that really inspired me to take a journey.”

She recalled, “I didn’t know a whole lot, and I was inspired to go to law school and really further my education to see what I can do to help.” Kardashian announced in May 2019 that she was studying for the bar exam. In December 2021, she said she passed the “baby bar” exam but has yet to pass the official test and become a full-fledged lawyer.
Kardashian appeared to be in good spirits during her White House visit despite recently being seemingly dragged on Taylor Swift ’s The Tortured Poets Department album.
Swift, 34, raised eyebrows earlier this month when she dropped the song “thanK you aIMee,” which eagle-eyed fans think is about Kardashian since the capital letters spell out “Kim.”
Related: What Really Went Down Between Taylor Swift and Kim Kardashian?
In the song, Swift alludes to her past drama with Kardashian which began in 2009 when Kardashian’s now-ex husband, Kanye West , interrupted Swift’s MTV VMAs acceptance speech. (Kardashian and West, 46, divorced in 2021 .)
West alleged in his 2016 song “Famous” that the awards show scandal propelled Swift to even bigger fame. When Swift claimed she didn’t sign off on West’s lyric about her, Kardashian defended the rapper and leaked a phone conversation between the pair, again without Swift’s approval.
While the feud seemed to calm down over the years, Swift reignited it with her TTPD album and the lyrics that pointed at Kardashian.
“When I picture my hometown / There’s a bronze spray-tanned statue of you,” Swift sings, seemingly describing Los Angeles. “And a plaque underneath it / That threatens to push me down the stairs at our school.”
Swift also called Kardashian, or rather Aimee, a bully who was “throwin’ punches” while she was “buildin’ something.”

“Kim isn’t happy about it but doesn’t want to add fuel to the fire,” a source exclusively told Us Weekly of Kardashian’s reaction to Swift’s “thanK you aIMee.”
The insider claimed that Kardashian “had no idea she was going to be a part of this narrative” and was “upset that Taylor is still harboring negative feelings toward her.”
Kardashian hasn’t commented on the song publicly, but she told Jimmy Kimmel on Monday, April 22, that “life is good.”
