Outstanding Tour My 2 adult children and I took this tour, as our time was limited, and boy did it deliver! Excellent overview of Venice, all the highlights! A lot of walking, but a gondola ride and lunch break in the middle makes it work. And got to see and hear about areas in the city that we wouldn’t ordinarily have been able to see. nik4nt

EXCELLENT My girlfriend and I decided to try this mask making class. I have to say it was one of our favorite experiences. We walked in and were greeted by a man named Nicolao who was the son of a mask maker and an excellent mask maker himself. We were given all the supplies to make beautiful custom mask. ... SeanLuc K

“I began to feel that the old Venice of song and story had departed forever. But I was too hasty. In a few minutes we swept gracefully out into the Grand Canal, and under the mellow moonlight the Venice of poetry and romance stood revealed… There was life and motion everywhere, and yet everywhere there was a hush, a stealthy sort of stillness, that was suggestive of secret enterprises of bravoes and of lovers… Music came floating over the waters−−Venice was complete.” – Mark Twain, The Innocents Abroad.

Venice Tours FAQs
You don’t need a tour to explore Venice and enjoy all it has to offer. However, a guided tour of Venice will provide you with insightful commentary and incredible facts about the city’s history and culture, allowing you to see Venice in a new light. I especially recommend joining a tour if it’s your first time in the city.
In my opinion, the best Venice excursions are the ones below, as they’re the most comprehensive options and include a visit to major landmarks. • St Marks, Doges Palace, with Murano and Burano & Gondola Ride • Venice In a Day: Basilica San Marco, Doges Palace & Gondola ride • Welcome to Venice: Walking Tour, St. Mark’s Basilica & Gondola Ride
2 days are enough to get a glimpse of Venice and its main attractions. I would recommend staying an extra day to ensure you see it all or add a fun day trip or experience to your visit. If you have limited time, make sure to spend at least 2 full days.
You can certainly see the major landmarks of Venice in one day, however, it’s going to be a rushed day and you might miss some attractions if you don’t plan your itinerary carefully. If you can’t afford more than a day in the city, I’d recommend joining a Venice In a Day: Basilica San Marco, Doges Palace & Gondola Ride Tour to see it all hassle-free.
Yes, Venice offers hop-on hop-off boat tours to explore the city at your pace.

The first time I ever arrived in Venice, I was taken aback by just how many things there were to see and do. The floating city is not only visually aesthetic, it’s also filled to the brim with history, rich culture, and delicious food.
The Private 5 hrs Grand Day Tour of Venice on Foot and by Boat with Tickets Included is the perfect way to get to know the Floating City in one comprehensive experience that will make you fall in love.
The only thing that I felt could’ve made this tour better, was offering a hotel pickup instead of having to meet up in central Venice. However, it was still quite easy to access from our hotel and our guide was super friendly and welcoming, answering any questions we had.
I was really excited to discover that we had skip-the-line access to many of the most popular sites, including the impressive St. Mark’s Basilica, leaving us more time to explore.
Our first stop was at the Doge’s Palace, where I learned about the dark history behind this place, even getting the opportunity to walk through the famous prisons, where countless prisoners were held.
The Piazza San Marco and Basilica di San Marco (St. Mark’s) were absolutely beautiful, learning about the history of the church and the square as our guide led us around.
Speaking of churches, I also loved seeing the Santa Maria Formosa Rensaissance Church dedicated to the Holy Virgin and boasting quite the interesting background.
We cruised along the Calle del Paradiso typical Venetian alley way with breathtaking Byzantine and Gothic architecture, before arriving to the gorgeous Grand Canal to take a relaxing 1-hour ride along the waterways.
If you’re looking to see a lot of the city in a short amount of time, this is a fantastic choice!

Venice is one of my favorite cities in the world, and one of the tours that made me fall in love with it so, is this next one. The Venice in a Day Private Tour allows you to dive into the romance, mystery, and allure thanks to an expert local guide in a private tour setting.
Through narrow alleys to smooth waterways, there are so many stories ready to be explored from this once major financial and maritime power.
Our tour began in the Piazza San Marco, which is simply breathtaking, featuring Saint Mark’s Basilica, the Doge’s Palace, and plenty of ornate arches and stunning structures that will take you back in time.
After our guide asked us about our specific interests to incorporate into the tour, we then headed to the Basilica di San Marco, skipping the lines to admire the ornate beauty of the Patriarchate of Venice without the wait.
We then headed to the Doge’s Palace with VIP entry once again, so there was no waiting and we got to see all of the private hidden apartments, along with the Hall of Great Council, Bridge of Sighs, and more.
It was very interesting, albeit a bit sad learning about the wrath and torment that occurred here. After walking around and learning all about the Doges’ span of nearly 1000 years of ruling, we then took a more lighthearted turn onto a fantastic eatery for lunch.
We then took a leisurely stroll through the charming streets to all kinds of bridges and piazzas, like the famous Rialto bridge and Marco Polo’s house! Closeby, we stopped by Campo Santa Maria Formosa for a private gondola ride, which is so exquisitely “Venice” in all its glory!
It may be cliche, sure, but it was one of my favorite parts of the tour, which is saying a lot because I loved it all!
3. Highlights & Hidden Gems With Locals: Best of Venice Private Tour
- Duration: 3 hours
- Departure Time: Between 9:00 AM & 12:00 PM
- Includes: Custom private tour, local guide, see the city’s top attractions and secret gems, 1 local drink and tasting
Venice is a city of romance, mystery, and intricate history, but there’s so much more than what originally meets the eye. If you’d really like to capture its authentic essence in just one day, this is one of the best tours to take.
The Highlights & Hidden Gems with Locals: Best of Venice Private Tour does a great job summing it up, offering a more behind-the-scenes look at the floating city.
We met our guide in central Venice, who was a local and very passionate about his city, which made the tour that much more intriguing. As it is a completely private tour, he even asked for our input and what we were specifically interested in, to tailor it to our liking.
With exclusive access and skip-the-line tickets to major attractions, we also got to see so much more than we would have had we purchased the tickets separately.
While being able to see the most popular sites like this was certainly fun, it was equally as interesting being able to see the more off-the-beaten-path discoveries like little campos, tranquil canals, and plenty of breathtaking architecture I’d never even heard of before.
Our guide really tailored the tour to our needs, taking us to many little treasures along the way – like the Banksy painting on one of the canal walls!
Again, this is an experience that likely wouldn’t be possible unless you’re going with a local guide who really knows the city like the back of their hand.
It’s perfect for taking near the beginning of your Venice stay, so you can explore all the various little shops and fantastic eateries throughout the rest of your time there.
This is definitely one of those experiences that will show you the “backstory” of the city many don’t know about.
4. Private Tour: Venice Half-Day Walking Tour

I couldn’t believe how affordable this next tour was, especially considering that it’s 100% completely customizable!
This is one of the most affordable private tours I’ve seen in Venice, where a professional guide will lead you and your party alone throughout the places you’re most interested in!
If that sounds like fun to you, do yourself a favor and check out the Private Tour: Venice Half-Day Walking Tour !
Something else that made this tour so convenient to me was the fact that they have a whopping 5 different start times, ranging from early in the morning to later at night.
Whether you’re interested in architecture, food, Renaissance art, etc., do not doubt that these guides can whip up a fascinating tour that will show you the best of the best. I told them I was most interested in both Renaissance architecture and art, and wow, they did not disappoint!
Along the way, we stopped at a couple of locales to try traditional Venetian appetizers and a couple of glasses of local wines, too. The Basilica di Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari was one of the most impressive sites I’ve ever seen, and while many tourists miss it, I’d advise you not to.
Inside is just as impressive, with art like Giovanni Bellini’s ‘Madonna and Child with Saints, ‘Saint John the Baptist’ by Donatello, and ‘Assumption’ by Titian.
What was really cool is that our guide was so thorough that he even set up reservations for us to see additional experiences and try busy restaurants, with impeccable timing!
I learned so much about Venetian foods, customs, wines, and of course, the history relating back to local architecture and art. I truly can’t recommend this tour enough, no matter the age or background!
5. Private 4 hrs Venice Tour: St Mark’s Basilica, Doge’s Palace and Secret Venice
- Duration: 4 hours
- Includes: Professional English-speaking local guide, guarantee to skip long lines to Doge’s Palace and St. Mark’s Basilica, headset to hear guide with 9+ participants in the group
This is another private tour throughout the floating city that’ll take you through its winding canals and alleyways, uncovering little hidden gems and famous landmarks.
If you have a larger party or you’re traveling with the entire family, this is the tour I’d recommend most as it’s ideal for bigger groups.
The Private 4 hrs Venice Tour: St Mark’s Basilica, Doge’s Palace and Secret Venice has a fantastic guide to tailor the experience to your preferences to ensure a personal tour, too.
Like most tours on this guide, it starts off with you meeting your guide in the center of Venice – in this case, right outside the Royal Gardens. Our guide asked us about what we’re most interested in and designed the next 4 hours around it.
Our first stop of the day was a quick stroll over to Doge’s Palace located in St. Mark’s Square, where we were able to skip the massive queues and head straight inside!
We followed our guide throughout the different opulent rooms, decorated with gilded decor, murals, paintings, etc. from floor to ceiling!
After learning all about the Doges, we headed closeby to St. Mark’s Basilica, where we also skipped the line and headed right inside to explore the towering golden domes and marble for half an hour.
We then went to the backstreets to check out fascinating hidden gems like the imposing San Zaccaria Church, Campo Santa Maria Formosa, and “hidden Venice”.
I loved the stories our guide shared with us as we explored, further enriching what we were seeing in a way that was engaging and natural – not like audiobook tours that just repeat information you can find anywhere.
Oh, and if you’re traveling with easily distracted teens, this tour will keep them entertained with intense stories and fun guides! While the price is a bit higher than the others, it’s more than worth it!
6. Private One Day Tour in Venice!

This next tour is the most comprehensive of the bunch, and is perfect if you are only going to be in Venice for a short amount of time!
If you’re going to be in the city for only a day or two, this tour does a great job of offering insight into Venice’s history while showing you a huge amount of top sites. The Private One Day Tour in Venice starts out at 10:00 am, and you’ll be back just after dinnertime!
Instead of having to head to a meetup point and figure out how to get there, rest easy waiting in your hotel lobby for your guide to come pick you and your crew up! Our first task of the day was to explore the Cannaregio district.
It is surprisingly lacking the masses of tourists, but is brimming with history – most notably, the Jewish Ghetto filled with old synagogues, art galleries, and museums.
Next up, we visited the San Polo district, which is known as the old trade center of the city, and is where we were able to see and explore the treasures that are offered at Rialto market! I really had a fun time in Santa Croce, which is filled with all kinds of art and talented artisans!
We then crossed the Ponte di Rialto, appreciating the beautiful views and learning about its history before arriving at the Mercati di Rialto for a traditional lunch.
After fueling up on cicchetti and local wines, we made our way to the legendary San Marco square where we saw the basilica, Doge’s Palace, and Bridge of Sighs.
The only thing that was a slight “con” for me was that we had to pay extra to enter the Doge’s Palace, but it was still quite affordable and worth it.
After that, we got to see one of the oldest glass factories on Murano Island, finishing with a private water taxi ride on the gorgeous Grand Canal while sipping on a glass of Prosecco.
7. Private Guided Tour: Venice Gondola Ride Including the Grand Canal
- Duration: 1 hour
- Departure: Campiello Traghetto, 30124 Venezia VE
- Departure Time: 2:00 PM
- Includes: Private guide in English, French, German, Spanish and Italian, Private 1-hour gondola ride
If you’re looking for a tour that will easily fit into even the busiest of itineraries, this one is right up your alley!
It’s a fantastic way to see Venice from quite possibly the most “iconic” perspective: a gondola! The Private Guided Tour: Venice Gondola Ride Including the Grand Canal comes with tons of different start times throughout the day and evening, so you can surely find a time that works perfectly for you.
I feel that everyone should have the experience of riding a gondola when in Venice, down the famous Grand Canal lined with opulent palaces, impressive basilicas, and old homes that simply can’t be found anywhere else in the world.
With 5 passengers maximum per boat, this is definitely an intimate experience ideal for friends, families, couples, and even solo travelers. Meet the guide in central Venice to take off close to St. Mark’s Square, which is very easy to access from just about any hotel in the city.
The gondoliers are quite charming, themselves, though it was our guide who really made the experience so memorable and educational.
He spoke various languages but was a local, born and raised, so he knew just about everything one could know about Venice’s past and present! Taking in the gorgeous canal-side sights was something else, offering incredible opportunities for photos and videos.
As we cruised down the famous Grand Canal, he quizzed us on fun facts and trivia, while also regaling us with interesting anecdotes from his own experiences of living there.
It was so cool being on the water as we passed by all kinds of water taxis, barges, and plenty of other gondolas!
Going under the gorgeous Accademia Bridge was quite the experience, and I really enjoyed getting to go through the narrower little canals that I felt exhibited perhaps the most charming homes and wonders.
However, there’s no underestimating the grandeur of the Ca’ d’Oro palace and the Rialto Bridge, passing through centuries of history.
This is so much more than just a gondola ride – it was a great balance between a relaxing ride and an educational experience. It’s perfect for every age, too!

The Doge Palace, also known as Palazzo Ducale, is an iconic landmark situated in the heart of Venice, Italy. The palace was the official residence of the Doge, the elected leader of the former Venetian Republic, and served as the seat of government for several centuries. Today, it is a popular tourist attraction that offers visitors a glimpse into the rich history and culture of Venice. The palace features an impressive collection of artwork, including paintings by renowned Venetian artists such as Titian, Tintoretto, and Veronese. Visitors can explore the ornate halls and chambers of the palace, which are adorned with exquisite frescoes, intricate carvings, and opulent furnishings. One of the most impressive features of the palace is the Golden Staircase, which leads to the Doge's apartments and is decorated with stunning gold leaf. With its rich history, stunning architecture, and world-class art collection, the Doge Palace is a must-see destination for anyone visiting Venice.

St. Mark's Basilica, also known as Basilica di San Marco, is one of the most iconic landmarks in Venice, Italy. This beautiful church is located in the heart of the city's historic district and is renowned for its stunning Byzantine architecture and intricate mosaics. The basilica was built in the 11th century and is named after St. Mark, the patron saint of Venice. Visitors to the basilica can admire its ornate exterior, with its intricate carvings, arches, and domes, before stepping inside to see its impressive interior. Grand Canal Gondola Ride
A gondola ride on the Grand Canal is one of the most iconic experiences in Venice, Italy. The Grand Canal is the city's main waterway, lined with grand palaces, historic churches, and picturesque bridges. Gondolas are traditional Venetian boats, long and narrow, and propelled by a skilled gondolier using a single oar. A gondola ride on the Grand Canal is a leisurely and romantic way to explore the city, as you glide along the canal's shimmering waters and take in the stunning sights and sounds of Venice. As you drift by ancient palaces and historic landmarks, your gondolier will regale you with stories and legends of Venice, adding a touch of enchantment to your experience. Whether you're traveling alone or with a loved one, a gondola ride on the Grand Canal is an unforgettable way to experience the beauty and magic of Venice.

The Rialto Bridge is one of the most iconic landmarks in Venice, Italy. This stunning bridge spans the Grand Canal and is a testament to the city's rich history and culture. The bridge was built in the late 16th century and was originally a wooden structure, but was replaced by the current stone bridge in the 16th century. Today, the Rialto Bridge is one of the most famous and photographed landmarks in Venice. Visitors can stroll across the bridge, taking in the breathtaking views of the Grand Canal and the city's vibrant architecture. Along the bridge, there are many shops and stalls selling a variety of souvenirs, including handcrafted glassware, jewelry, and textiles. As you walk across the bridge, you'll feel the energy and excitement of Venice, surrounded by the hustle and bustle of locals and tourists alike. Whether you're admiring the bridge from afar or walking across it, the Rialto Bridge is a must-see destination that embodies the beauty and spirit of Venice.
Islands of Murano, Burano and Torcello
The Islands of Murano, Burano, and Torcello are a group of small islands located in the Venetian Lagoon, just a short boat ride away from Venice, Italy. Each island has its own unique charm and character. Murano is famous for its centuries-old tradition of glassblowing, and visitors can watch skilled artisans create exquisite glass objects at the island's many workshops and studios. Burano is known for its brightly colored houses and intricate lace-making, and visitors can wander its narrow streets and admire the colorful architecture and delicate lacework. Torcello, the most remote and least populated of the three islands, has a rich history and several ancient landmarks, including the 7th-century Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta and the Attila's Throne, a stone seat dating back to the 5th century. The Islands of Murano, Burano, and Torcello offer visitors a glimpse into a unique and fascinating culture and are a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to Venice.

0.2 miles from city centre
The beating heart of Venice. From dawn till dusk, stunning San Marco buzzes with footfall and camera-shutter clicks. Start the day with fresh pastry from Pasticceria Tonolo before getting your fill of selfies at Piazza San Marco and the Bridge of Sighs. Cap it off with a cocktail at Harry’s, the legendary bar loved by Ernest Hemingway. “Salute!”
Places to stay from £28 per night
0.7 miles from city centre
This one-time ghetto is a cache of offbeat treasure. Start the day with breakfast from a café in Campo di Ghetto, then get inspired at Bragorà, a funky handicrafts workshop. On sunny days, you can’t beat Al Timon, a small canalside bar with a moored-up gondola. It’s a tip-top spot to sit and tuck into spritz and “cicchetti” (snack dishes).
Places to stay from £4 per night
Keep it real in Dorsoduro. Away from the tourist swarms, this quiet district is home to bona-fide Venetians. Behind artistic treasure troves like Galleria dell’Accademia, you’ll find a whimsical labyrinth of picturesque squares and canals. Stroll down Zattere promenade to bask in the setting sun, then dine by candlelight at atmospheric La Bifora.
Places to stay from £22 per night
Santa Croce
Far from the madding crowds, where the real Venetians live. Friends have a tête-à-tête over biscotti and cappuccino, children chatter and play, and young couples idly stride across the square hand-in-hand. The humble (yet elegant) buildings contrast with the baroque and byzantine monuments that lord above the canal at every turn.
Places to stay from £23 per night
0.5 miles from city centre
History is writ large in San Polo. Ditch the map and follow the slender alleyways like Calle dei Botteri, winding past crumbling façades and impossibly small cafés. Head to Calle del Tintoretto, where Scuola Grande di San Rocco boasts a slew of paintings from the great man himself. Sip a riverside spritz in Ancorà, before a fresh fish supper at Muro Frari.
Places to stay from £17 per night
0.4 miles from city centre
Old-school Castello is decidedly laid-back. Neighbours chatter, shirts drip-dry from washing lines strewn above alleys, and mornings start with cappuccinos and newspaper-rustle at the cafes around Giardini Pubblici (the public gardens). It’s also home to the Venetian Arsenal, shipyards that are anchored to the city’s history.
Places to stay from £9 per night
0.8 miles from city centre
Most visitors head to the Redentore Church. However, if you only go there you’d be missing half the fun. This humble, car-free district is only accessible by waterbus. It was once the city’s industrial centre, where fabrics were woven and rolled, flour ground and turned into artisanal breads and tourists came in droves; now it’s as quiet as it gets.
Venice City Centre
In the city centre
The colour of street signs matches the city centre’s interiors – pure gold. Modern-day Medici’s live in luxury in Venice’s most elite district. Before the stream of tourists becomes a river, watch the morning sun strike St. Marco Square – it’s magnificent. Afterwards, slip into Pasticceria Tonolo for a standing espresso and Venice’s best pastries.

About Venice
Including tips for the best time to visit venice.
Venice is one of the world's most unique cities, due to the fact that in the six centuries since it came into existence, it hasn't really changed. And despite being a sprinkling of islands built on water, it's home to spectacular buildings like the Basilica of St. Mark. Located in Veneto, a region of North-East Italy, Venice is a city worth getting lost in. Flanked by a labyrinthine network of charming canals, its spaghetti-like layout of narrow streets offer a new discovery around every corner.
Venice's famous Piazza di San Marco is the city’s centre of attention, with the majestic basilica towering over the square, as well as the Doges' Palace (Palazzo Ducale) and the columns of San Marco and San Todaro completing the iconic ensemble.
If you've got time, take a romantic gondola ride along the Grand Canal and under the Rialto Bridge, or a water taxi to Murano, world-renowned for its glassmaking. Venice also hosts the oldest film festival in the world, which takes place in late August or early September on the island of Lido di Venezia. Other cultural highlights include the prestigious Art Biennale exhibition which is held every two years and the annual carnival, where locals and visitors put on their traditional period costumes and elaborate Venetian masks.
Situated in the mainland area of Mestre, Venice Marco Polo is the closest airport to Venice itself, but many low-cost airlines touch down at Treviso Airport, 25 kilometres away from the city.

2 April 2024
Although I've been told how amazing Venice is before, it didn't prepare me for how beautiful it actually was. Walking around the small streets, crossing little bridges, and getting truly lost was a joy. It was a unique experience where cars are replaced by boats bringing with it a peace and tranquillity that cannot be faulted. The food, as expected, was exquisite, the wine, wonderful, and the Spritz', delectable. If you're a foodie, I would highly recommend booking one of the street food tours which allowed the opportunity to try some of the best Cicchetti (small bites), the local wine and a real insight into the culture of bar-hopping, that is Venice. If you enjoy the slightly alternative, rather than catching a Gondola ride, instead book a Kayaking tour, where you can explore the canals of Venice. This was a stand-out for the trip. All in all, Venice was breath-taking and will hold a special place in my heart - one to return to again and again!

It is how it appears in media (just as beautiful etc) - definitely recommended. Potentially too many tourists for the space, but we were two of the 'too many' so can't complain that much!
It was our first trip to Venice, we loved it.
29 March 2024
It was our first trip to Venice, we loved it. Did lots of walking, lots of window shopping, a bit of actual shopping. Took a 5 hr two island (Murrano and Burano) guided trip, unfortunately it was raining so did not get to enjoy as much. The glass making tour at Murano and the lace making at Burano was good. We wanted to walk around more in Burano, the trip guide told us since Burano was our last stop, we can stay back for more time and tax a water taxi back to the main island if we want, but the forecast had rain for another couple of hours, so we just headed back on the guided trip itself.
Venice is everything that you imagine it to be.
Venice is everything that you imagine it to be. Depending on your ability, we found it best to walk throughout the city, not using the public water transport. Walking offers you so much more in seeing the 'real' Venice, how people live in the deep and dark back streets, great experience as you get lost in the labarinths. We have heard the negative reports of how it is dirty and smelly, but we found absolutely no evidence of this. A genuinly joyful educating and facinating experience. Just be aware of the obvious rip-offs and over-priced restaurants, and you will be fine. Use the Alilaguna airport transport, which is well organised, and relatively cheap and easy to navigate, both at the airport and in Venice.

Taking a water bus down the Grand Canal has to be the highlight as is the view towards the lagoon on the dell’Academia Bridge. We loved exploring the less touristy areas of Venice…we enjoyed strolling down wider streets and being surprised by lovely squares and beautiful views down canals when crossing numerous bridges. St Marks Square and Rialto were obviously great but it was very, very busy even in late March. Last few days it rained which is uncomfortable trying to dodge umbrellas and continually walking in puddles that make sure you return to your apartment with wet shoes and socks. I worry about what will happen to Venice…it’s getting loved to death by tourists. I know we were part of the problem but something needs to be done to save it from tourists.

Read more about your Evening Gondola ride Venice & city stroll
Your Private Evening Gondola Ride in Venice starts from the picturesque square of Campo San Giacometto where you will meet your local guide. This square is home to the oldest church in Venetian history, dating back to 421 AD. The area is in the daytime a bustling part of the city since it’s where the Venetians come to buy fresh groceries at the nearby fresh food market, the Rialto Market, located next to the Grand Canal.
The Rialto area gave the name to the famous Rialto Bridge, known for its unique architecture. Learn the story behind the design as you cross over. We will make sure to stop at the top of the bridge where you can take stunning photos of the Grand Canal. Venice at twilight is a sight for sore eyes!
You will continue your stroll in the calmer evening air of Venice, through the small streets without the daunting crowds, and walk across the charming bridges and discover hidden piazzas. Your guide will make plenty of stops along the way to tell you more about this city’s history and its anecdotes. Feel free to ask as many questions as you want.
No tour of Venice would be complete without visiting the political and religious center of Venice, Saint Mark’s square. Reaching this beautiful square at this time of the early evening allows you to admire the Basilica of Saint Mark completely lit, along with the Bell Tower and the Doge’s Palace. Surely an unforgettable moment as your guide shares with you the stories and history of the buildings that surround you.
Just a stone’s throw away a gondola is waiting to take you on a peaceful and romantic ride through the canals. Your LivTours private guide will make sure you are comfortable and take some photos of you in the gondola before waving you off. For 30 minutes you will enjoy the gentle and very classical way to see Venice, from its narrow canals!

We had the best evening with Nico, our guide, who took us around Venice. He was very informational and new so much about the history of Venice. After the tour, we went on the gondola and it was amazing. Recommend!

We are so happy we took this evening walking tour while in Venice. The city is so much more peaceful in the evening and the views and monuments at night are simply enticing. Our guide Sara was a lovely person and very excellent guide. The gondola ride at the end was the perfect way to end our Venice experience. Very romantic!!
Just enchanting

We Tried GetYourGuide For Finding Tours And Excursions, And We Love It For Trip Inspiration
T he internet is full of endless sites and tools that claim they can help you plan a trip. One of these is GetYourGuide , a free website and app on the App Store and Google Play. This marketplace platform allows users to search and directly book excursions at the destination of their choice. Activity providers (like tour companies) list their experiences on GetYourGuide and receive commission fees. With this in mind, we decided to test GetYourGuide for ourselves to see if it was worth the hype.
First and foremost, we found that navigating both the website and app was extremely simple. One of the first things you will see when the app or website loads is a search box that asks, "Where are you going?" If you continue scrolling towards the bottom of the home page, you will find an array of suggested activities from cities like London, Abu Dhabi, and many more. For this review, we chose Los Angeles, one of the biggest tourist destinations in the world.
Using the website, we input the city into the search box, and bam -- we were met with 317 activities and even an itinerary for a trip to Los Angeles (note this itinerary only showed on the website; the app is more streamlined for the list of activities). Nevertheless, we were happy with the diversity of activities offered in the city.

Searching For An Activity On GetYourGuide
In Los Angeles, GetYourGuide has something for everyone and every price range. Those wanting to visit the city's iconic attractions, like the TCL Chinese Theatre , can take a 7-hour, $95 grand bus tour of LA. For true crime lovers, there's a $59 dark history and haunted LA bus tour.
Other activities include bike tours on the beach, walking tours of Downtown LA, guided hikes to the Hollywood sign, dinner cruises, and more. In addition, you can buy entry tickets to various LA attractions on GetYourGuide, including Universal Studios and the Aquarium of the Pacific, to name a few.
Of course, 317 activities is a lot to scroll through. Users can filter results using price range, ratings, language, duration, time, interests, and points of interest. GetYourGuide tries to simplify finding a suitable activity as much as possible. Despite this, we found that the website was far more in-depth than the app, which has its pros and cons.
Users who search for a city using GetYourGuide's website are not instantly met with a tidy page with listings, like on the app. Instead, the page is organized to show the top activities of that city, followed by the top sights, and finally, all of the activities. In other words, there's a lot going on, and it can be hard to focus on one thing. If this could be a problem for you, opt to use the app rather than the website, which is much tidier and to the point.
The Booking Process With GetYourGuide
This review would not be complete without trying one of the activities GetYourGuide offers for ourselves. We opted for a $75 Venice Beach food tour . The description states that the tour is 2 hours long and features five food samples, historical information, and various stops around Venice Beach. In addition, it notes that the tour is not suited for individuals who can't walk long distances or have other mobility impairments.
Notably, the listing makes clear what is included in the price. For this specific tour, guests only have to worry about tips for their guide and getting to the meeting spot. To book, we had to choose a date for the tour before checking out. Once we were ready to pay, we had the option to book as guests or sign in via Google, Facebook, or Apple ID. Alternatively, we could create an account using our email.
Payments can be made with Paypal, Google Pay, and a debit or credit card. Apple Pay is also an option, if you're using the app on an iPhone. Once the payment has gone through, a QR code and a voucher will appear. This has to be presented at the time of the tour. We recommend you download the GetYourGuide app to save the voucher on a phone. However, it can be printed, too.
The Inside Scoop On The Tour We Booked With GetYourGuide
The Venice Beach food tour is provided by a tour company called Junket. It took place at 11 a.m. on a Saturday, and the listing on GetYourGuide said to meet at The Cow's End Cafe, the first stop on the tour. The listing did not mention the tour guide's name or distinguishing characteristics. We ended up being the only ones on the tour and did not know who we were looking for. Eventually, a man named Jean Michel Arlin introduced himself as the guide.
At The Cow's End, we were given an acai bowl. The second stop was at Vegan Pop Up by XMarket, where we were supposed to eat a vegan fried chicken sandwich. However, the sandwich was sold out. Arlin did ask if we wanted something else on the menu but did not have a backup meal; thus, we declined and skipped ahead to the third stop, Teddy's Red Tacos, for a birria taco.
The last two stops were at the Sidewalk Cafe for Hawaiian pizza and the Pink Elephant Espresso Bar for ice cream in the flavor of our choice. We ate at each restaurant, and Arlin ordered each item. Every sample was delicious, and Arlin was a gem and clearly dedicated to his job. He provided tidbits of history at each meal and was incredibly engaging as he showed us different landmarks around Venice Beach and the boardwalk. As outlined on the GetYourGuide listing, Arlin took us to the canals, Muscle Beach, and the Venice Beach Skate Park.
The Venice Beach Food Tour Had Some Pitfalls
While the tour was tasty and fun, it was not perfect. There was a disconnect between the listing on GetYourGuide and Junket's website. Jean Michel Arlin did not check or mention the voucher from GetYourGuide -- he only requested our name. When asked about GetYourGuide, he was unaware of its existence and did not know how the tour ended on the platform.
Likewise, the tour was three hours long, not two, as it said on the GetYourGuide listing (Junket states on its website that it's 2.5 hours). This discrepancy could be a problem for individuals with limited time or who planned something else for the day. Besides the acai bowl, we were not explicitly told in advance what else we would be eating or asked if we had any allergens. While we had none, this could be an issue for people with dietary restrictions.
This was brought up to Arlin, who admitted that he knew this was a dilemma but explained that the tour was relatively new and that Junket was still working out the kinks. He also acknowledged that the tour needed backup restaurants for individuals with allergens or if a menu item was sold out, as was the case with our tour.
In another discrepancy, the listing on GetYourGuide states that the tour included a tasting from the Win~Dow and Minor Figures. However, neither was a stop. (After some digging, it seems that Minor Figures partnered with PlantX to create the Vegan Pop Up at XMarket we went to, but this isn't explained and was a bit confusing).
The Final Verdict On GetYourGuide
While GetYourGuide caters to tourists, there are so many activity listings that locals can easily find an activity they haven't done before. Overall, the platform is incredibly comprehensive for those who need to book an activity for their vacation in advance or even on the day of. It's user-friendly, and if something comes up or you change your mind, GetYourGuide allows you to cancel up to 24 hours before the activity for a full refund.
In addition, the price you pay for said activity includes taxes and fees. In some cases, you can find some slight discounts. At the time of this publication, an adult entry ticket to the Aquarium of the Pacific on GetYourGuide is $42.95. On the aquarium's website, it's $44.95. But overall, the prices on GetYourGuide are usually the same as the activity provider's website (the Venice Beach food tour is priced at $75 on GetYourGuide and Junket, for example).
As mentioned, our chosen tour had flaws, but we are unsure if GetYourGuide or tour provider Junket is to blame. Junket's listing on their website is more accurate than GetYourGuide's. Nevertheless, thanks to the yummy food and knowledgeable guide Jean Michel Arlin, we still enjoyed every moment of the tour.
Despite its pitfalls, we would use the platform again. It's perfect for gaining inspiration, searching for activities, and comparing prices. However, before you book anything, we suggest you compare the listing on GetYourGuide to the listing on the tour provider's website to ensure there are no inconsistencies.
