One of our favorite things to do on weekends here in Seattle is exploring nearby cities for a PNW getaway. I found out that there are many kid-friendly things to do in Kent, WA and we immediately jumped at the opportunity given to us.

This past weekend, Visit Kent, WA , invited my family on a press trip to discover what makes Kent such a kid-friendly place in Washington State.

If you’ve been to Seattle Center or downtown Seattle, and you enjoyed a trip to the Pike Place Market, T Mobile Park, Seattle Seafront, or Seattle’s skyline, then you will definitely enjoy Kent.

The city has a lot to offer for whatever type of traveler you are. You can go for a day trip history package, visit and discover their acclaimed art scene, or go “nightlife shopping” if you want to explore its lively nightlife.

You can also go for a custom tours adventure or other interest tours if you want a mix of all those.

Visitors in the city can also enjoy a wide range of outdoor attractions, from hiking trails to scenic parks, all while savoring delicious outdoor attractions food at local cafes and food stalls.

We had so much fun yesterday. I spent all day writing about this trip!

Lake Meridian Park

One of our favorite parks in Kent is Lake Meridian Park. We started coming here when my oldest was a baby for little baby play dates with our PEPS group.

Now, 4 years later, it’s still a destination park we love to visit!

Top Kid-Friendly Things to Do in Kent, WA in 24 Hours: Visit Lake Meridian Park

As a preschooler and toddler mom, I appreciate that the entire playground has cushy rubber mats, wood chips, or turf. I don’t worry about my kids running around (especially when they are wearing shorts!)

And it’s pretty easy to see my boys no matter where they are at the park. One can be swinging, and the other can be racing cars down a hill, and I can keep an eye on both.

Top Kid-Friendly Things to Do in Kent, WA in 24 Hours: Visit Lake Meridian Park

While the playground is fabulous (I mean, there’s a PIRATE SHIP!) I also appreciate the vast grassy fields and the lake itself! That makes it easy for us to spend hours here.

Top Kid-Friendly Things to Do in Kent, WA in 24 Hours: Visit Lake Meridian Park

There’s also a great covered area with lots of tables. We saw a family bring hot pizza to eat while the kids ran around. Such a great idea!

Airways Brewing Bistro

All that playing made my boys hungry, so we headed to Airways Brewing Bistro in Downtown Kent. I’d heard they have a kids’ menu and that their food was tasty.

When we arrived, I saw they had two separate entrances: One for the 21+ brewery and another for the family-friendly brewery. They are separated inside by a long hallway.

Top Kid-Friendly Things to Do in Kent, WA in 24 Hours: Dine in Airways Brewing Bistro

The family-friendly side was awesome! We picked a table that looked into the open-concept kitchen. Our server was super friendly and helped us choose an array of items.

While they prepared our food, I took my toddler out to the courtyard to check it out, and I was floored!

Top Kid-Friendly Things to Do in Kent, WA in 24 Hours: Dine in Airways Brewing Bistro

They have a whole kids’ play area set up! At first, I saw a cart filled with tons of chalk, a couple of containers of bubbles and a bunch of bean bags. Then, I realized they also have corn holes!

So, instead of managing antsy kids at the table, we were able to fully engage with them on the patio! And it was semi-enclosed, so I was able to let my toddler run around a bunch.

Top Kid-Friendly Things to Do in Kent, WA in 24 Hours: Dine in Airways Brewing Bistro

When the food arrived, it was fantastic! My kids had macaroni and cheese and french fries as their entrees.

But, they also shared a mini charcuterie plate with prosciutto, cheese, bread sticks and blueberries. The kids LOVED it!

Top Kid-Friendly Things to Do in Kent, WA in 24 Hours: Dine in Airways Brewing Bistro

And I had a caprese sandwich with honeycrisp apple slaw that really hit the spot! Plus, I had sea salt truffle fries with an aioli that I’m still salivating over!

While I didn’t sample any of their beers, I can say that they offer many varieties, including cider.

Top Kid-Friendly Things to Do in Kent, WA in 24 Hours: Dine in Airways Brewing Bistro

So, this may be the coolest kid-friendly brewery I’ve been to! I can’t wait to return with another family (or a few families) just to hang out while the kids play!

Kent Teaching & Toys

After lunch, we played a little corn hole at Airways Brewing Bistro before walking to Kent Teaching & Toys.

This is another spot that’s always a hit with my kids! It’s right behind the Kent Library, so we walk here after storytime sometimes.

Top Kid-Friendly Things to Do in Kent, WA in 24 Hours: Go for something educational in Kent Teaching & Toys

My friend is a former kindergarten teacher, and she’s the one who originally told me about Kent Teaching & Toys. She suggested having a play date there a couple of years ago, and we’ve been coming back ever since!

It’s the perfect spot to go if you are looking for good-quality toys for your kids or to give as gifts. They have a wooden train section and sell individual train track pieces (which saves so much time when your child is looking for a specific piece that may be ANYWHERE in your house!)

As I looked around the store, I found many items that would be perfect travel toys! Here are a few of my favorites:

Top Kid-Friendly Things to Do in Kent, WA in 24 Hours: Go for something educational in Kent Teaching & Toys

My kids always enjoy the train table! They also play a bit with the Calico Critters table but usually return to the train table.

And don’t forget to check out their bargain sections. I found a really cool building toy on clearance that kept my son fully occupied in the hotel room!

The boys picked out mail trucks as their souvenirs. My brother is a mail carrier, so they were ecstatic to get their first mail truck toys!

Punjab Sweets

One of the things I love most about Kent, Washington, is the sheer vastness of ethnic cuisine! My family thoroughly enjoys food from around the world.

Top Kid-Friendly Things to Do in Kent, WA in 24 Hours: Have a sweet tooth? You should definitely try Punjab Sweets!

So, I was excited to check out Punjab Sweets. My husband visited India last year for the Holi Festival and tried several sweets there. He tried to explain them to me, but I figured we better just try them ourselves.

Punjab Sweets is located right next to a sari shop! I was tempted to go in and peruse the colorful outfits, but I had my boys with me, and I had promised them treats!

Top Kid-Friendly Things to Do in Kent, WA in 24 Hours: Have a sweet tooth? You should definitely try Punjab Sweets!

The first thing we noticed was the display case featuring their tempting sweets. Without knowing exactly what everything was, I picked a few colorful items, a few featuring flavors I knew I liked, and then asked for recommendations.

I also ordered a chai tea and lassi drinks for the boys. After running around a bit all day, sitting and drinking something hot while sampling the goodies was nice!

Top Kid-Friendly Things to Do in Kent, WA in 24 Hours: Have a sweet tooth? You should definitely try Punjab Sweets!

We also got a bag of Indian snacks. My friend’s mother-in-law sent them similar snacks we had tried, so I knew my kids would like them. Nice to know we can buy them in Kent!

Trapper’s Sushi

My boys still had a lot of energy, so we went back to Lake Meridian Park to play more before dinner. They spent most of that time racing their mail trucks down the hill at the park!

After a bit, we were ready to head to Kent Station to enjoy a meal at Trapper’s Sushi.

Top Kid-Friendly Things to Do in Kent, WA in 24 Hours: Try Trapper's Sushi.

My husband and I can eat sushi almost every day. The kids can be hit/miss. We usually give them rice and miso soup. But we always encourage them to try new things.

Top Kid-Friendly Things to Do in Kent, WA in 24 Hours: Try Trapper's Sushi.

The kids menu at Trapper’s Sushi is perfect for families with adventurous (and not-so-adventurous) children. The portions are large, and my boys were able to split a kid’s order of teriyaki chicken, rice, and fruits.

Fruishi is fruit sushi. Cute, right? This one was sliced-up green apples rolled in rice. I tried one, and it was good! It’s a fun (and healthy) dessert option!

Top Kid-Friendly Things to Do in Kent, WA in 24 Hours: Try Trapper's Sushi.

With the kids situated, my husband and I wanted to try some of Trapper’s Sushi’s specialty items. We found a couple of tempura rolls that sounded amazing. And they lived up to our expectations!

As parents, we appreciated that Trapper’s Sushi was a bit loud. Our toddler was melting down a bit, and it was barely noticeable. That allowed me to finish eating without feeling stressed out. We left very full!

Best Western Plus Plaza by the Green

The Best Western Plus Plaza by the Green is a two-story hotel located on a golf course. It’s also next to shopping and restaurants and has plenty of parking.

As soon as we entered the hotel lobby, my son said, “This place smells GOOD!”

We quickly discovered that they offer complimentary freshly baked cookies in their lobby! They had chocolate chip as well as macadamia white chocolate cookies. We grabbed two before checking in!

Top Kid-Friendly Things to Do in Kent, WA in 24 Hours: Stay at Best Western Plus Plaza by the Green.

Check-in was a breeze, and we quickly took the elevator to the second floor.

Our room faced the golf course. We arrived at dusk, and the course was empty.

Top Kid-Friendly Things to Do in Kent, WA in 24 Hours: Stay at Best Western Plus Plaza by the Green.

We decided to get into our jammies and enjoy our chocolate chip cookies before heading to bed!

Top Kid-Friendly Things to Do in Kent, WA in 24 Hours: Stay at Best Western Plus Plaza by the Green.

The next morning, we decided to check out the continental breakfast spread and have a little something to eat before we packed up. My 4-year-old enjoyed filling up his own glass of orange juice and looking out on the golf course.

Then, it was time for us to pack up and continue exploring Kent!

Turnkey Park

Since we are early risers, we thought we’d hit up another park before breakfast. After a quick Google search, I found Turnkey Park.

This is another super cool park in Kent!

Top Kid-Friendly Things to Do in Kent, WA in 24 Hours: Go to Turnkey Park.

First, they have a giant sandpit with interactive construction diggers. But they also have a water spigot where kids can pour water down some hills INTO the sand pit! It’s like what they have at Northwest Trek !

Top Kid-Friendly Things to Do in Kent, WA in 24 Hours: Go to Turnkey Park.

Second, they have a Hidden Mickey scavenger hunt! Since we are a HUGE Disney family, we set off immediately to find them!

Third, they have an ADDITIONAL scavenger hunt featuring fruits and veggies! My son joined a few other kids in running around the park to see what they could find.

Top Kid-Friendly Things to Do in Kent, WA in 24 Hours: Go to Turnkey Park.

I felt a little bad piling back into the car for breakfast, but my tummy was rumbling! We’ll definitely be doing a play date here soon!

Saimin Says

If you’ve never had a Hawaiian breakfast, you miss something special! I discovered Saimin Says years ago while working on the Live Aloha Hawaiian Cultural Festival at Seattle Center.

Top Kid-Friendly Things to Do in Kent, WA in 24 Hours: Visit Saimin Says.

My husband and I started coming here for breakfast when we were dating and it started to be a regular thing.

But, since we had our youngest, we haven’t made it back to Saimin Says.

Top Kid-Friendly Things to Do in Kent, WA in 24 Hours: Visit Saimin Says.

So, we were extra excited to enjoy a leisurely breakfast here. The kids split a plate of scrambled eggs and a Mickey Mouse pancake (after my oldest used banana slices to place Mickey’s eyes and nose!)

Top Kid-Friendly Things to Do in Kent, WA in 24 Hours: Visit Saimin Says.

My husband got the Loco Moco, his favorite Hawaiian breakfast item. This time, he ordered it with more meat patties and less rice to be “low carb!”

Top Kid-Friendly Things to Do in Kent, WA in 24 Hours: Visit Saimin Says.

And my favorite thing to order here is their fried saimin. I mean, saimin is right in their name, so you should order it!

Top Kid-Friendly Things to Do in Kent, WA in 24 Hours: Visit Saimin Says.

Finally, we grabbed a SPAM musubi and Portuguese sausage musubi to snack on later. OMG, so good!

Kent Farmers Market

After all that yummy food, we needed to walk it off a bit. Luckily, we were there on a Saturday to take advantage of the Kent Farmers Market.

Top Kid-Friendly Things to Do in Kent, WA in 24 Hours: It's worth going to Kent Farmer's Market!

It’s located right by the Kent Library, Kent Teaching & Toys, and Airways Brewing Bistro! Super convenient!

Top Kid-Friendly Things to Do in Kent, WA in 24 Hours: It's worth going to Kent Farmer's Market!

The kids were immediately drawn to the crazy-shaped pumpkins and gourds. They looked so perfect for Fall decorating!

Top Kid-Friendly Things to Do in Kent, WA in 24 Hours: It's worth going to Kent Farmer's Market!

I liked seeing the brightly colored flowers! They were so cheery, and the sellers were so excited to talk about them!

It was a great way to end our adventure in Kent, Washington!

Other Things To Do in Kent, WA If You Have More Time

If you’ll be staying in Kent a bit longer, I have a few more kid-friendly options for things to do in Kent, WA:

NORTHWEST HARVEST

For families with kids ages 9 and up, sign up to volunteer to pack food at Northwest Harvest. I did this while mentoring at Seattle Girls School years ago, and we’ll be doing this as a family in 5 years!

CARPINITO BROTHERS

If you love fresh produce, this place is awesome! It’s seriously my Mother-in-law’s version of paradise! Plus, you can usually meet a camel or reindeer during the holidays. And they have an incredible Pumpkin Patch at their field in Kent.

CAVE MAN KITCHEN

If you like roadside BBQ, this place is a ton of fun for families! You can eat outside on picnic tables (and yes, they have kid-sized picnic tables, too!) My Mom first came here decades ago, and I’ve been bringing my kids that past year.

SOUND TRANSIT

Last month, we took the Sounder Train during a play date, which was awesome! The kids excitedly hopped on board the Sounder at Kent Station for an adventure around Seattle’s Chinatown Neighborhood. It’s also an easy way to get to Kent from Seattle.

This is another great breakfast spot. Get a table by the window because, chances are, you’ll see trains whizzing past at least once! My boys go NUTS, which provides a lot of entertainment while we eat. And you can get yummy treats to go!

Thanks, Visit Kent, WA, for hosting my family on this press trip. All opinions are my own.

Marketing description.

Paragon Real Estate Advisors is pleased to announce the exclusive listing of the Canyon Crest Apartments. Seller financing is available as a financing option to purchase this property. Current ownership has improved operations over the past 24 months, but rents are still below market and a value-add opportunity exists to fully renovate the units and lift rents higher.

The Canyon Crest has seen extensive updates during the last 12 months, with over $160,000 spent on improvements. 6 of the 9 units have been updated with LVP flooring, new appliances, bathroom remodels, and paint. All the electrical panels have been replaced during the process as well. The unit mix of the 9 units is 4 – 1-bed/1-bath units and 5 – 2-bed/1-bath units.

Exterior improvements include the installation of a brand-new membrane roof, fresh exterior paint, replacement of the sewer line connection, landscaping and the Puget Sound Energy box replacement. The building is “L-Shaped” with a courtyard which provides a sense of community for the tenants.

The City of Kent is a strategic location for property ownership, offering easy access to major cities and outdoor activities. Its growing economy and diverse population make it a promising area for commercial investments and rent growth.

What to see and do in Spokane, Washington

Washington State’s second most populous city, Spokane effortlessly mixes urban sophistication with striking outdoor attractions. Stop by for scores of sensational sights, events and activities.

Sandwiched between the Cascade Range and the Rocky Mountains in eastern Washington State, Spokane is a ruggedly handsome city that owes much of its current character to an early-20th-century construction boom and the legacy of the environmentally themed 1974 World’s Fair (widely referred to as Expo ’74). While the building rush endowed the city with an attractive assemblage of Romanesque revival architecture, the World’s Fair lives on in downtown Riverfront Park where various trails, sculptures and pavilions overlook the spectacular waters of Spokane Falls. Bringing the natural world into the city's downtown core, Riverfront Park exemplifies the diverse charm of Spokane. From long riverside bike rides in the morning to elegant pre-theatre drinks in the evening, here's how best to explore Washington State's most underrated city.

A gondola over a river with a bridge in the background.

What to see

The focus of downtown Spokane is the lush Riverfront Park centred on Upper and Lower Spokane Falls, where visitors can loop around a network of interlinked bridges and trails, or take the Numerica SkyRide gondola over the falls themselves. Other eye-drawing attractions include the beloved Looff Carousel , a hand-carved fairground ride dating from 1909, and the huge, cone-shaped Spokane Pavilion , a nexus for year-round light shows and summer concerts.

Beyond the park, Spokane’s downtown entertainment district nurtures a strong cultural tradition. Broadway shows feature regularly at the First Interstate Center for the Arts , while the 110-year-old Bing Crosby Theater hosts musicals, comedy shows and tribute bands. Crosby grew up in Spokane and his former home has been made into a museum on the grounds of his alma mater, Gonzaga University.

The city also has an under-appreciated architectural tradition. The best place to immerse yourself in its splendour is the grandiose Browne’s Addition neighbourhood. Here you’ll find the Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture , a showcase for Native American artefacts, where the largest exhibit, Campbell House, is an exquisite Tudor revival mansion with a lovingly restored Victorian interior.

A close-up of the horses on a colourful indoor carousel.

Spokane is a short drive from Washington’s two largest state parks, Mount Spokane and Riverside. The former hosts a low-key downhill ski area with 52 wide, intermediate runs. In summer, 100 miles of multi-use trails are unveiled, with options to either hike or drive to the top of 1,794m Mount Spokane for 360-degree views of the inland Northwest.

Riverside Park is only six miles northwest of downtown Spokane and protects large tracts of ponderosa pine forest crisscrossed with trails. A park focal point is the Bowl and Pitcher , a shallow gorge containing huge boulders and swirling with angry water. A wooden suspension bridge, built by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Great Depression, crosses the river linking to a campground on the other side. The holy grail for cyclists is the 40-mile-long Centennial Trail that tracks the Spokane River from Riverside State Park through downtown to the Idaho border.

Spokane is also distinguished in the sporting domain, hosting a huge outdoor basketball tournament called Hoopfest , and one of the largest mass-participation running events in the world, the annual Bloomsday .

A house made of stone with a purple-sky sunset background.

Where to stay

Spokane is home to one of the finest hotels in the nation. The 284-room Historic Davenport Hotel dates from 1914 and was built by prodigious local architect Kirtland Cutter in a striking retro style known as Renaissance revival. While the exterior is relatively restrained, the gilded interior is unashamedly lavish. Even if your budget doesn’t stretch to an overnight stay, it’s worth taking a peek into the ornate lobby or stopping for a cocktail in the genteel Peacock Room Lounge with its extravagant stained-glass ceiling.

Supplementing the Historic Davenport Hotel is the Davenport Lusso , a deluxe downtown haven of warm earthy tones and elegant furniture. Nearby, Spokane’s oldest historic boutique hotel, the Montvale Hotel , which opened in 1899 to house itinerant miners, mixes antique design features with snazzy modern touches to lure in 21st-century guests. At the more economical end of the market, the Hotel Ruby in the downtown entertainment district is an upgraded former motel embellished with funky art and cool splashes of colour.

A dish of frybread with a sprinkle of icing sugar.

Where to eat

Once a proud meat-and-potatoes kind of place, Spokane has diversified over the past two decades to become a melting pot of envelope-pushing international cuisine. This growing sophistication can be sampled in pioneering chef-led establishments such as Inland Pacific Kitchen , which marries intense flavours with creative presentation, and Zona Blanca Ceviche Bar , revered for its Baja-style fish and formidable cocktails.

Of older provenance are perennial favourites such as Wild Sage , an American-style bistro where local ingredients form the culinary bedrock; Frank’s Diner , a hub of no-nonsense breakfasts dispatched inside a 1906-vintage railway carriage; and Steam Plant Restaurant & Brew Pub , whose homebrewed suds and homespun handhelds, such as burgers and tacos, can be enjoyed in an ex-industrial facility — another of Kirtland Cutter’s creations.

To sample the true soul food of the region, head over to Indigenous Eats in the Gonzaga district, which offers such salt-of-the-earth delights as ground bison tacos and frybread with a huckleberry sauce, all sourced from local Native American businesses. The restaurant first opened in 2022 and its recently added second location (also in Spokane) was voted the fourth-best new restaurant in the country for 2024 by USA Today readers.
