Things to do

See paris aboard a gourmet double-decker bus.

Bustronome Paris is an innovative, double-decker gourmet restaurant that meanders through the streets of Paris , during lunch and dinnertime, allowing guests to see the city, and take in the sights, all while dining on a gourmet meal. It’s one of the best food-oriented things to do in Paris.

You might be wondering how it works. How do the waiters stay on their feet as the bus drives over cobblestone streets? How do the glasses stay put on the table. We can assure you that the whole experience has been designed with bumpy roads in mind.

Bustronome in Paris

Oh, and the waiters are highly skilled acrobats who can juggle plates, glasses, and tableware like pros. Not a single crumb gets spilled. Read on to learn their secrets.

Yes, we felt some bumps in the road as we set off from our meeting spot near the Arc de Triomphe, but after a few minutes, we were having such a good time looking at everything as we passed by that we forgot all about it and just enjoyed the ride.

» Check the Bustronome website for more details on dining times and schedule. Ticket prices vary as well.

The Bustronome Concept

You could ride the double-decker sightseeing bus in Paris and see the sights, but Bustronome adds a whole extra layer of fun and excitement to the typical sightseeing bus.

Not only do they serve you a gourmet lunch or dinner while driving through past the top sights, they also provide expert commentary on each stop in a very non-invasive way, so you can decide what type of experience you want.

A team of very experienced (and well-balanced) chefs and servers make the experience charming and pleasant from start to finish. After riding the bus with my sister, niece, and nephew, we all agreed it was a fantastic way to see all the sights while relaxing and enjoying some food, at the same time. We all agreed it was the best activity we did in Paris.

Dinner on a Double Decker Bus: The Gourmet Way to Experience London

You won’t be struggling to find ways to experience London’s exciting food scene when you’re in town for a visit. But there’s no better way to ...

What to Expect Onboard Bustronome

You’ll be given a time and location for your Bustronome departure. The buses assemble near the Arc de Triomphe, in a very visible spot so you can easily find them. You’ll want to board the bus about 15 minutes before departure, so you can be shown your table and sort your drinks.

bustronome seating

The bus fits up to 38 people in 2-4 person tables. A six-top can also be arranged for larger groups. Each table has a fantastic view out of the tall windows. Being on the second floor gives you the height advantage to see over cars and buildings for the best view as you drive along. Seriously, what restaurant offers this kind of view from your table? ↓↓

Eiffel Tower from Bustronome

I was a bit worried that the experience wouldn’t be interesting for my teenage niece and nephew, but they enjoyed it very much. The only thing I would mention is that the food is a bit high-brow for a picky eater.

My nephew agreed to try one bite of each dish, but he didn’t particularly enjoy any of the food. The tour might be a bit boring for younger children, but I think it all depends on your kids. We’ve been on the Bustronome in Paris and London and both times there were small children aboard who looked to be having a great time.

What’s the Food Like Onboard?

starter course bustronome

The dining experience varies depending on which meal you choose. Lunch is 4 courses and dinner is 6 courses (with or without wine pairings). Brunch is also served on Sundays and includes pastries, eggs, cheese, fruit, and coffee. We took the dinner service with wine pairings for my sister and I.

Upon boarding, we had a glass of Champagne and an hors d’oeuvre. Then the bus pulled out of its parking spot and we began the ride. This was when I learned the secret to how they keep the wine glasses from falling over. The table is expertly prepared with the means to keep everything in place.

Water and wine glasses slide into slots in the centerpiece. There were absolutely no slips or spills, despite the occasional bump in the ride. You wouldn’t know it by looking, but the silverware are all magnetized to the table, so they won’t slip around at all.

Dinner service aboard the bus

We didn’t really know what could be expected of a dinner served aboard a bus. I can honestly say I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the meal. This isn’t your typical tourist attraction dinner. It lives up to its billing as a gourmet meal.

salmon course

It was more than enough food, and was nicely paired with both a white and red wine along the route. The timing of the courses deliberately matched the lulls in the tour guide, so you could listen to the program without interrupting your meal.

The Sightseeing Tour

views from the bustronome

The great part about Bustronome is how low-key they keep the tourist factor. Of course it’s a bus full of tourists hoping to catch glimpses of the magnificent sights of Paris, but we don’t need that fact broadcast to us. When you board the bus, there is no mass welcome, instruction or introduction to the tour.

The aim is for this to be an elegant and relaxing experience. The tour takes a back seat to the dining experience onboard. But they do offer an informative audio guide that you can listen to at your leisure during the ride. The menu doubles as a tour map.

Each person has an audio pen at their place setting that is used to deliver information. As you near a stop of interest, you just hover the little pen device over the dot on the map and listen to the audio track through the handheld device. The bus tours lasts for 1:45 for lunch and 2:45 for dinner.

Along the way, the bus stops at top spots, like Invalides, the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe. You can take pretty good pictures from the window. They also stop for a time at the Eiffel Tower and let you get out of the bus to enjoy the twinkling lights of the Eiffel Tower (which only happens for a few minutes once per hour).

Eiffel Tower at night

Important Information

The bus parks at 2 avenue Kléber, right off the circle of the Arc de Triomphe. You’re asked to arrive 15 minutes before the departure time to get seated. As I already mentioned, the tour lasts 1:45 for lunch, 2:45 for dinner and 1:45 for brunch.

The upper level of the bus is surrounded by windows, all around and above. The windows are not open like a tour bus; it’s entirely enclosed so the tour happens regardless of the weather.  There is a bathroom on board.

If you’re looking for a fun and unique foodie activity to do in Paris, this is one of the best. It’s classy and even a little romantic. It’s not your typical tourist bus — it’s way better than that. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this tour. Even for locals, it’s a treat. Book here .

(Disclaimer: We were given  discounted tickets for Bustronome, but that in no way affects our opinions or views.)

Enjoy a bus tour and dining experience in paris.

BUSTRONOM : A unique restaurant in Paris

In Paris, there are a lot of monuments and sites to visit such as: the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, Champs-Elysees, Concorde Square, and so much more. Not only does Paris have great tourist attractions, but it's also a city unique for its atmosphere and ambiance that attracts lots of visitors. For a fun and different way to tour Paris, we recommend a city tour bus in which you can have a delicious meal while enjoying a panoramic view of this gorgeous city. Bustronome is a classy and luxurious bus restaurant in Paris that starts its tour at the Arc de Triomphe. After settling down and getting comfortable, let Bustronome lead you on a wonderful special sightseeing tour through Paris.

Dining with a marvelous panoramic view of Paris

Best Tour bus in Paris

As you can board Bustronome only with a reservation, don't forget to reserve your spot in advance. Also, be aware that bus reservations may be fully booked faster for public holidays or special days like Valentine's Day. When you get on the bus, you can check in and leave your coats on the first floor. Then, a marvelous panoramic view is waiting for you on the second floor. All sides of the bus, including the ceiling, are made of transparent glass so you can have a clear view of the city from wherever you are on the bus.

Bustronome offers lunch and dinner service. You can enjoy a 4-course meal for lunch and a 6-course meal in the evening. You can also have a wine pairing with an extra charge. The menu changes every season depending on the seasonal food. Click here  to check their website and review the menu in advance. A vegetarian menu is also available. Additionally, if you want a gluten-free dish or if you have a particular allergy to certain ingredients, the chef will consider your concerns.

Bus tour and dining experience in Paris

Also, depending on your choice of whether you're there for lunch or dinner, there is a slight difference in the bus route. Commonly, the journey starts from Arc de Triomphe and passes through Trocadero Square, Eiffel Tower, Champs de Mars, Invalides, Alexander III Bridge, Grand Palais, Concorde Square, Madeleine Cathedral, Garnier Opera, Louvre Museum, Orsay Museum, Paris National Assembly, and returns to the starting point. During the evening route, Pont des Arts, Saint Michel, Conciergerie, Notre Dame de Paris Cathedral, and Paris City Hall are added between Louvre Museum and Orsay Museum.

With Bustronome, you can enjoy the guided tour while sitting comfortably, and without being disrupted by the weather. There is a QR code right next to the table. Once you scan it with your smartphone, you will find a meal menu, a journey map, and a series of audio guides of each attraction to learn its history while enjoying the view.

Harmonious contemporary French cuisine during a bus tour

A beautiful restaurant in the heart of Paris

Look at this magnificent view of the Eiffel Tower! You can take memorable photos with your family or friends while sharing a great meal prepared on the ground floor of the bus. Sébastien Nicolleau, Bustronome's chef since its launch in 2014, creates harmonious and contemporary French cuisine perfectly cooked on wheels thanks to his skills. Although it is a meal on the bus, the quality of the food is the best, just like dining in a restaurant.

Salmon Gravlax, goats cheese mousse, and asparagus pickles

A unique restaurant recommendation in Paris

It is a healthy and delicious appetizer made with salmon and asparagus pickles. Fresh salmon goes perfectly well with creamy goat cheese mousse mixed with refreshing herbs. Sweet and gently sour pickles add an extra freshness and crunchy texture.

Green herb crusted Cod, petit pois purée and saffran crisp

What to eat in Paris / Best restaurant in Paris

After the appetizer, the first meal will be served. If you have two main dishes in France, they usually come in the order of fish first, then meat. The cod fried with green herb batter is very soft and juicy. The meal comes with creamy flavorful green pea purée. If you have ordered a wine pairing menu, a glass of white wine will be served as a perfect match for a fish dish.

Beef fillet, seasonal vegetables

Paris restaurant near Eiffel tower

The meat dish of the day was beef fillet. The meat was perfectly cooked and very soft. Its peppery sauce made with the meat's juice brings out the rich flavor of the meat even more. The addition of fresh seasonal vegetables completes the dish. Especially, the sweet and lightly spiced vegetable purée makes a great combination with Beef fillet. It is best to drink red wine with a meat dish.

Iced Nougat, red fruits

Bus tour / Bus restaurant in Paris

For dessert, an iced Nougat with red fruits is prepared, with red berry sauce added to the sides of the dessert. Iced Nougat looks like ice cream, but firmer and creamier than ice cream. It is an excellent dessert under the gentle sunshine from the glass ceiling, perfect after a full meal.

O'bon Paris' tip

What to do in Paris? Try Paris tour bus

While on the bus, you might be worried about the drinks spilling on the table or the plates falling down when the bus makes a turn or stops suddenly; but you don't have to worry at all. As soon as you board the bus, you can easily see the small details that prevent any accident. The table mats are made of a special material that is soft but grips the plates so that they don't slide. In addition, special equipment is provided so that the glasses don't spill. These additions help you concentrate on the tour and meals with your friends, kids, or families. Do not forget to download the O'bon Paris discount coupon  in advance and get a special discount code. T he Paris Big Bus Tour is the gift that keeps on giving. Truth be told I love to walk and see cities on foot, but Paris is a must by bus because it makes financial sense, and it will save you a lot of time.

The Big Bus Tour in Paris

Is it worth it.

When traveling, I am a fan of taking public transportation and traveling like a local. It’s environmentally friendly and you can save money on car rental expenses.

Taking the Big Bus Tour was one of the best decisions that we made because the tourist attractions are spread apart, and you can see many more points of interest while saving time and money.

Paris is made up of 20 neighborhoods (or arrondissements) and the Big Bus Tour will travel through 7 of them.

We spent a total of 9 days and Paris and had a pretty full agenda which included lunch at the Eiffel Tower , a river cruise on the Seine, a day trip to Versailles, a classical concert at La Sainte Chapelle, trips to outdoor markets like Marche des Enfants Rouges, visiting the rooftop of the Arc de Triumph, souvenir shopping, Sacre Coeur, the Louvre Museum, the Champs Elysees, the Catacombs, Rue de Cler, Pont Alexandre , a croissant making class with a Parisien chef, Ile de la Cite, Berthillon, and more. We also ventured out to see Paris at night and the views were stunning!

How Long is the Big Bus Tour in Paris

The Red Route is the main tour, and it takes about two hours to see everything if you don’t exit the bus. We stayed on the bus from start to finish to get a idea of places that we wanted to visit on foot.

How Much is the Big Bus Tour in Paris

The ticket fee will vary based on the number of days that you want to join the tour bus. I recommend the combination ticket where you can see the points of interest for the Big Bus, and take a cruise on the river Seine.

It is possible to do both the tour and the cruise in one day. If you join the tour and finish by 5 PM, you can then join the cruise on the river and catch the sunset depending on the time of year that you go.

Check for tickets on the Paris Big Bus Tour here .

Are There Toilets on the Big Bus

Sorry, but no matter what the city it is very likely that you won’t find any restrooms. However, you can ask the driver or attendants on the bus to guide you. The wonderful thing about Paris is there are public restrooms available for just a euro.

When is the Best Time to Visit Paris

We went on the bus tour at the end of March for Spring break. The weather was a bit chilly and in the high 50s to low 60s. It was sunny, but not incredibly warm.

The prime months are April, May, September, and October when highs reach a comfortable 60-70°F (15-21°C).

Big Bus Tour Review

We purchased our tickets online using a smartphone after touring Notre Dame. Because the cathedral was one of the tour stops, we thought we were close, but the stop was a 7-minute walk away.

To add, the area was congested, and the instructions were confusing. After calling the tour company, we found the stop heading west but then learned that the bus stop was across the street and coming from the south direction.

Fortunately, we caught it in time and were able to get nice seats on the upper deck.

It was a sunny, cool day and one would think would be an excellent opportunity for photos. The problem for me is that I don’t have great photography skills and I was using my smartphone.

When we got to a landmark or icon, it was difficult to take a good shot due to the speed at which the bus traveled, bumps in the road, construction equipment, or overgrown trees, not to mention the hands, heads, and cameras of other passengers.

On our tour there were two routes in operation, the red route, and another color (which may no longer be available). The red route took about two hours to see everything. Then we had to exit the bus at the last stop to catch another bus that went into other neighborhoods.

The most interesting point on the second route was The Moulin Rouge. Otherwise, the sights were non-eventful, so we caught up on rest and napped on the lower level during the ride.

Overall, it was time well spent. And since we planned activities at a few of the attractions we had the chance to make up for bad photos taken on the bus.

Where to Catch the Big Bus Tour in Paris

There are 10 stops on the red route and the buses will arrive in frequent intervals. During peak visiting months, like spring to summer, you can expect longer waits and slim pickings for a good seat.

1 – Louvre Pyramide / Big Bus Information Centre (11 avenue de l’Opéra)

2 – Louvre at Pont des Arts (2 rue de l’Amiral de Coligny)

3 – Notre Dame ( 3, Rue Lagrange (outside souvenir shop, opposite park entrance)

4 – Musée d’Orsay (58 Place Henry de Montherlant, facing the museum)

5 – Champs-Elysées (156, avenue des Champs-Elysées, facing the Arc de Triomphe)

6 – Grand Palais (Avenue Winston Churchill, facing Grand Palais and Petit Palais)

7 – Trocadéro (Avenue Paul Doumer, next to the Musée de l’Homme)

8- Tour Eiffel (Quai Branly, Entrée 2 Tour Eiffel, at the north pillar of the Eiffel Tower)

9 – Champ de Mars (Avenue Joseph Bouvard)

10 – Opéra Garnier (Facing 15 rue Scribe, next to the Roissy airport shuttle bus stop)

Things to Know Before You Go

  • The tour is pre-recorded and the audio narratives can be heard in English, French, Italian , Spanish, German, Brazilian Portuguese, Mandarin, and Korean.
  • Be mindful of potential traffic delays, especially during peak hours so that you can plan your tour for off-peak times to avoid congestion.
  • Be aware of any events that may alter the experience (rallies, protests, huge sports competitions).

I can’t emphasize the awareness of events enough. There was an enormous parade outside our hotel on one trip, and protests that caused the Champs Elysee to be boarded up during another trip.

Final Thoughts on the Paris Big Bus Tour

Overall, it was a pretty fun girls’ trip but the last thing I wated to do was spend most of our time and money riding the subway all over Paris.

The Big Bus is a no brainer if you want to see the best of Paris without wearing yourself out.

As a US citizen, I try to make the most of my visits to Europe.

The more countries I visit, the more I am convinced that I’ve made the best use of a 10-hour flight.

A quick trip to the Covent Garden in London, Venice , Italy, or any another country is always must for me.

And as always, you can see whether you are in New York , Paris, or Chicago , you experience so much in a short amount of time with a Big Bus Tour.

When I was planning my February trip this year I looked up the forum for other peoples’ opinions. I thought it might help other people in the future if I wrote about my own experience.

The main downside to me is wintry weather in February.I was in Paris from 30th January to 13 February.

I knew it would be cold and I was prepared with a thigh length warm down coat.Although I live in sub-tropical Australia, I often visit Japan in winter. The temperatures when I was in Paris didn’t worry me, varying from 6 to 10 degrees maximum.I was a little surprised about how windy it could be at times, making it feel colder.I wore thermals only twice. It didn’t rain much but the skies were grey almost the entire time which was more than I expected. The few periods of sunshine and blue sky were very welcome but short-lived.(Some buildings such as the Bourse de Commerce-Pinault collection with its glass cupola and churches with their stained glass are best appreciated on sunny days.) Short daylight hours are another downside.

I love green trees and parks (and fountains) .Three things stood out for me personally when the trees were leafless.Walking along the Seine, I could more clearly appreciate the quayside buildings on the other side of the river. The photos I took contrast with my previous visits where the trees were green, showing a different beauty. The bare trees, especially pruned ones, I found very visually interesting because normally the leaves mask the underlying detailed branch structure.I found that because the grass is green even in winter, this for me significantly lessened the “harshness” of barren trees.(By contrast in Japan, grass is drab yellow in winter.) I visited the Tuileries, the Jardin des Plantes, Versailles gardens (on a Monday to avoid crowds),Fontainebleau and St Germain-en Laye. I saw the earliest signs of spring with crocuses coming, some very early blossom and even some daffodils on the approach to Versailles.

I was intending to go to Troyes for a day or two but was put off by the dreary weather and short daylight hours.I’ll go another time.

I learnt that fountain pipes freeze in winter. So I don’t remember seeing any working fountains. The Stravinsky fountain is my very favourite.I was disappointed it wasn’t working. The fountains in the Tuileries were drained and a lot of work was going on, presumably for the Olympics later in the year.In the Versailles gardens also.

I found some very good accommodation at low season prices.I stayed solo 2 nights at the Hotel d’Orsay for 200 euros per night including breakfast,2 nights at their sister property Hotel de la Place du Louvre for 200 euros per night without breakfast and 10 nights in a studio at Citadines Bastille Gare de Lyon , steps from the Reuilly Diderot metro station on line 1 for only 110 euros per night! I found an excellent off season return airfare from Australia business class on Japan Airlines for AUD 6200.

There were still plenty of other visitors, especially at popular museums. The Louvre was very busy,as expected, but I treasure my Ami du Louvre membership card so I really can go straight in with no queue!

I’m hoping to go again next year, maybe in late March.

Always good to provide fresh information here. February 2024 was apparently the least sunny February in more than 30 years. Better luck next time!
