Where is EastEnders’ new set and can you visit?

  • Published : 17:01, 13 May 2020
  • Updated : 17:44, 15 May 2020

EASTENDERS is currently in the middle of building an entire new £87million set only a few yards from the old one.

The project has come under fire for being expected to go over budget by a staggering £27 million as well as taking two and a half years extra to complete - so why was the new set necessary in the first place? Here’s everything you need to know...

EastEnders is building a new set

Where is the EastEnders new set?

The new EastEnders set is being built at the BBC's Elstree Centre in Borehamwood , opposite the current one used on screen.

EastEnders showed fans a glimpse of the new Queen Vic in April, which is finally taking shape on the corner of the Square.

The new updated set will also include additions to the Square including a block of flats as well as a railway tunnel and line for the famous Walford East tube station.

The new set will replace the show's original one, which was built in 1984 from steel frames, plywood and plaster brick panels.

The new EastEnders set is opposite the old set

Why have BBC made a new set?

BBC bosses took on the mammoth task of building a new set to make Walford HD-ready.

The current set was built back when the show originally launched in 1984 and was only intended to be used for two years.

The current set is stopping EastEnders from filming in HD as show bosses fear viewers would notice that the fronts of the Queen Vic and its surrounding buildings are made of plaster and plywood.

The HD set’s buildings will be made entirely out of brick, but look identical to the old ones.

The BBC said in a statement: "The set of EastEnders was built in 1984 and only intended for use for two years.

"Over 30 years later, the show remains one of the BBC’s flagship programmes and yet is filming from a set that is no longer fit for purpose.

"The new set will be suitable for HD filming for the first time and extend Walford to better reflect modern East End London."

Can you visit.

Due to the soap’s filming schedule - which was four 30-minute episodes prior to coronavirus - there have previously been no tours of the EastEnders sets or of the studio.

And given that the current home of EastEnders in Elstree isn’t accessible to the general public, it seems unlikely that the new set will be.

EastEnders have announced that the set, which was originally supposed to be completed by 2018, won't be ready until around 2023, s o fans will have to wait a few years for more news on potential visits.

EastEnders - Borehamwood

can i visit eastenders set

If you’re missing your regular soaps and limited episodes just aren’t enough, there is a way to visit the set of EastEnders without breaking any government guidelines.

EastEnders’ fictional borough of Walford is actually filmed in Borehamwood, and you can take a nosy around the set on Google maps here and also visit the set via a virtual guided tour on YouTube .

Only Fools and Horses - Acton

Del Boy and Rodney might be known for living in Peckham but the actual tower used for the exterior shots on the show is based in Acton.

Although it was the tower was to be demolished in 2019, fans of the show can still visit it virtually using Google maps here .

Sherlock - Euston

Although the fictional address of Sherlock Holmes is well known as 221B Baker Street in the hit BBC series, the exterior shots were actually filmed right near Euston Square.

To take a tour of the familiar exterior buildings fans can explore the area using Google maps here .

Absolutely Fabulous - Holland Park

can i visit eastenders set

Edwina’s house on the popular show AbFab is set in Holland Park and exterior shots for the programme were filmed in the same area.

These were different locations to the ones used in the film which were in Hampstead. You can explore the AbFab house here .

As Time Goes By - Holland Park

Also filmed in the AbFab location was the romantic sitcom which aired from 1992 to 2005 was filmed and set in and around London.

Most of the exterior shots were filmed in Holland Park, and you can explore the exterior location used for Lionel’s flat here .

Other filming locations of our favourite TV shows

Holby City - Borehamwood

As well as fictional Walford, the hit hospital drama was set up in North London, right by Barnet.

Outnumbered - Wandsworth

Possibly the most relatable show ever was set and filmed in a nice semi-detached, three floor house in Wandsworth.

The Bill - Colliers Wood

The fictional Borough of Canley, policed by officers in The Bill, is more like Tower Hamlets - and Sun Hill police station was even once stated as being in Wapping. However, it was filmed in Colliers Wood.

Ashes to Ashes - Bermondsey

Set and filmed in Bermondsey, Southwark and Lewisham were actually the first places that were scouted as locations. It was perfect as the area looked a little more dated, and wasn't as busy or built up as boroughs north of the river.

Duch Set ( 1993 ) [ ]

Introduction by Dreek Biesiot Directed by Eddy Habbema - Vara - 1993 Soap series about the residents of the Rotterdam neighborhood 'The old north'. The data for the series came from the well-known series Eastenders, but the Dutch version only lasted one season. With design assistant Nick de Weerd I designed a square in the working-class neighborhood and all the interiors. The Burgemeester Roosplein is such a small, normal square. A greengrocer, Surinamese toko, dump shop and a launderette. In the middle a small playground with some seesaw chickens and a telephone booth. Director Eddy Habbema preferred to shoot everything on location, but that turned out to be very expensive. The facades and streets of the square are therefore 'real' - of (brick) stone and wood - only at the back you can see that it is a decor. The interiors are in a studio in Almere.

EastEnders Set Budget

In 2014, then executive producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins said that he wanted Albert Square to look like a real-life east London neighbourhood so that the soap would "better reflect the more fashionable areas of east London beloved of young professionals" giving a flavour of the "creeping gentrification" of east London. A temporary set will be created on-site to enable filming to continue while the permanent structure is rebuilt.

The new set (Project name E20) would increases the size of the set by 20% compared to the original set and the project will be managed by Jenkins Design Services Ltd.

In May 2016 the rebuild was delayed until 2020 and forecast to cost in excess of £15 million , although the main part of the set is scheduled to be able to start filming in May 2019. In December 2018, it was revealed that the new set was now planned to cost £59 million but a National Audit Office (NAO) report stated that it would actually cost £86.7 million and be completed two-and-a-half years later than planned, in 2023.

It was completed ahead of schedule and began being used in February 2022. The first episode on the new set aired on February 28 2022

BBC Elstree Centre

Entrance to BBC Elstree Centre, 2010

Studios at Elstree Elstree was a major centre for film production from the early days of cinema. There’s a great deal of confusion about which studios at Elstree were used for which movies / TV shows.

This page covers  BBC Elstree Centre  (also known as Clarendon Road Studios, Neptune Studios, Rock Studios, National Studios, ATV Studios, Central TV Studios).  The location has been used for movie / TV production since 1914 and has been the home of BBC Soap ‘Eastenders’ since 1985 (see below)

Unfortunately there are  no public tours of the Eastenders Sets or of the studio itself at any time .

This gritty and groundbreaking BBC soap opera has been based at the BBC Elstree Centre since day one back in 1985. The soap is based in the fictional London borough of Walford in the east end. The Albert Square permanent exterior set was designed by the late Keith Harris, the senior designer in the EastEnders production team. Extensions including a fictional Tube station have been added over the years. In 2014 it was announced that a new, 20% larger exterior set would be built for EastEnders, within the BBC Elstree Centre grounds. Following planning permission, construction work took place in 2015 & 2016 to prepare the new site. Although it was originally planned to have the new sets operational by 2018, it’s now believed that part of the set will be available from 2019, with the entire development not complete until 2020.

Tours of EastEnders:

Unfortunately there are no public tours of the Eastenders Sets or of the studio itself at any time . This has never been possible due to the production schedule and additional security concerns. Please do not contact this website about tours, as there are none available. Some BBC facilities offer tours (but NOT this location) so please check the BBC Tours website for more information.

History of the BBC Elstree Centre site

Percy Nash and John East, early British filmmakers, built Neptune Studios at Boreham Wood, near Elstree village. Although conveniently close to London, it was far enough away from the metropolis that the air was clear of smog and traffic fumes. One of the stages was over 70 feet in length and was described as the first ‘dark’ stage in Europe as it had no glazed roof and relied totally on artificial illumination.

Neptune Studios closes due to World War 1, and the site is bought by the Ideal Film Company.

Ideal Films moves out of the premises.

Ludwig Blattner, inventor of an early sound recording system, took over the studios, making them the last in the Elstree area to be converted for sound recording.

The studios are leased by Joe Rock, an American producer, the same year as Blattner committed suicide.

Joe Rock buys the studios outright (now known as  Rock Studios ) and constructs the four main stages, still in use today as studios A-D. This major investment ensured the future use of the studios for many years to come.

The Rock Studios are taken over by  British National Films , and almost immediately, the studios are taken over by the government for war dutues. After the war British National Films continued to make films on the site, now known as  National Studios .

The studios go dark for five years.

Douglas Fairbanks Jr buys the studios. He uses the four stages to make filmed TV programmes for the American company NBC. His initial contract was for an astonishing 39 films as well as many commercials. Many of the short films made for the US market were shown in the UK as part of  Douglas Fairbanks Presents  from 1955 .

May: Lew Grade’s  ATV  purchases the former National Film Studios.

One by one the four studios are brought into use as (at the time) state-of-the-art television studios. Many classic TV series used the ATV facilities:  Robin Hood ,  Lancelot ,  The Saint  (with Roger Moore),  The Persuaders  and TV specials for stars such as Shirley Bassey and Tom Jones. Later,  The Muppet Show started life here, along with  Emergency Ward 10 ,  The Plane Makers ,  The Power Game ,  Sergeant Cork ,  The Golden Shot  (game show),  Sapphire and Steel ,  Tiswas  (Saturday morning kids show) and the first 13 episodes of  Carry on Laughing .

ATV lost it’s London TV franchise and was reshaped into Central TV. Central remained at Elstree while their new facilities in Nottingham were constructed. Many staff (and much equipment) moved to Nottingham when the studios there were finished.  Auf Wiedersehen Pet  filmed at the studio in the meantime.

16th January – The official documents are signed, transferring ownership of the site to the BBC, and it’s renamed  The BBC Elstree Centre . Popular BBC shows including  Grange Hill ,  Top of the Pops  and  Kilroy  move to the new site. The backlot area formerly used as the  Auf Wiedersehen Pet  building site is used to construct the exterior Albert Square sets for  EastEnders .

19 February:  Eastenders  debuts on BBC1 television, and the Albert Square sets are seen for the first time.

Holby City , a spin-off of BBC medical drama  Casualty  (filmed in Bristol) starts filming at Elstree, using Neptune House, one of the existing BBC office buildings, as the hospital.

The Times reports that Eastenders may shift production to another location (e.g. Pinewood Studios) due to the deteriorating quality of the 25 year old sets at Elstree. The original sets were never designed for this length of run, and under the unforgiving HD cameras, the fake brickwork and wooden walls are beginning to be very obvious. >  Link to The Times article

Eastenders is to remain at Elstree ‘for the foreseeable future’, with sets being upgraded when necessary.

Work is underway to prepare a new site slightly east of the existing location for an expanded Albert Square, with higher quality sets, some of which may be practical. Build cost is believed to be £15million. > Link to The Guardian article about the move > Link to Metro article about delays to the work

The BBC begins the process of selling the studio property to French insurance company Axa. A 25-year lease will be in place for the BBC to lease back part of the facilities to continue to film there. The purchase is due to complete in 2024.  > Link to Financial Times article about the sale

*Warning: contains spoilers for EastEnders' episode airing 23rd April 2024, which is now available to watch on iPlayer.*

EastEnders has revealed the true motives of returning character Nadine Keller (Jazzy Phoenix), as Jay Brown's (Jamie Borthwick) latest storyline continues.

Nadine recently told Jay that she's expecting his child, leaving the widower horrified!

After Nadine told his stepdaughter Lexi about the baby, a hurt Lexi eventually made up with Jay after he ran the London Marathon .

As he recovered from his efforts, Jay ignored a call from Nadine - but Lexi told him it was OK if he wanted to talk to her.

More like this

Lexi admitted she had been upset because she wasn't really Jay's child, but this baby would be. Jay insisted that he would never leave Lexi, as he loved her as his own.

Later, Nadine called round to apologise to Jay for speaking to Lexi, and Jay remained furious. But after Jay pointed out that the baby might not be his, Nadine offered to do a paternity test and showed him a scan, revealing the child is a girl.

Jay gradually came to terms with his new situation, while Nadine broke down into tears over the prospect of single motherhood.

Jay apologised for his behaviour, and told Nadine he wouldn't make her spend money on a test. He gave her some cash for food and maternity clothes, which she accepted after trying to turn it down.

But as Jay looked to be coming around to the idea of being a dad, everything was not as it seemed.

Alone and heading out of Walford, Nadine was seen on the phone to a mystery caller, who she promised would get their money "soon".

Hanging up, Nadine then pulled a fake baby bump from under her top and discarded it in her bag, revealing to viewers that she isn't carrying any baby at all - let alone Jay's!

Borthwick recently chatted to RadioTimes.com and other press about Jay's baby bombshell, and how his alter ego steps up to the concept of being a father .

Now we know the truth, though, there's hope that Nadine may be exposed sooner rather than later, as Lexi can't contain herself around Nadine .

New EastEnders spoilers also confirm that Lexi will enlist the help of her great-great grandfather Stevie Mitchell (Alan Ford) with Jay and Nadine, and Stevie doesn't trust Nadine either! Will her scheme be rumbled? And how will Jay react to her cruel con?

3 Netflix shows we can’t wait to see in May 2024

Netflix killed it in April . From artsy thrillers like Ripley  to supernatural fare like Dead Boy Detectives to the stalker drama Baby Reindeer , the streamer produced enough original content to justify its ever-increasing subscription rates …  for now, at least.

Netflix ‘s May programming slate doesn’t appear to be as packed as April, but there are a few shows on our radar that are worth checking out. There’s a big-budget adaptation of an acclaimed novel, a low-key comic mystery set on the Emerald Isle coast, and a show about a man and his puppet on a quest to find a missing child.

A Man in Full (May 2)

He may not be in fashion right now, but there was a time when author Tom Wolfe was all the rage. His novels about America’s upper class, particularly The Bonfire of the Vanities , captured the imagination of critics and readers worldwide, and his thoughts on capitalism, race, sex, democracy, and the role of personal politics in everyday life made his books attractive to Hollywood. His acclaimed 1998 novel, A Man in Full , is finally being adapted by Netflix, and it should satisfy both fans of Wolfe and those who love a nice, juicy miniseries.

The show pivots aground Charlie Crocker (Jeff Daniels), a prominent member of Atlanta’s high society and real estate tycoon who is defending his personal and professional interests from ruin. Those vultures circling Charlie’s increasingly vulnerable empire include his wife, Martha (Diane Lane), and deceptive co-worker Ray Peepgrass (Tom Pelphrey), both of whom give Charlie nothing but headaches. Throw in a scandal involving an heiress and a famous athlete, sexual misconduct allegations, and the threat of a citywide race riot, and you have yourself a recipe for one of Netflix’s most memorable dramas of the year.

Bodkin (May 9)

It’s never not a good time to watch a mystery series set in a bucolic coastal town. It’s even better when it’s set in Ireland, where those lush green hills hide all sorts of beauty — and dark secrets. Fortunately, Netflix has a new show that will scratch that rural thriller itch with Bodkin , a seven-episode limited series that stars Saturday Night Live  vet Will Forte plus a gaggle of the U.K. television industry’s finest character actors like Siobhán Cullen and David Wilmot.

When three strangers go missing in a small town on the coast of Ireland, a ragtag band of podcasters, led by Forte’s Gilbert, descend on the town to investigate … and make some money in the process. But when they begin to uncover secrets that implicate the whole town, they soon discover that it’s hard to separate what is real and what is imagined. Bodkin sounds a bit like X-Files , but with a dark, comic twist. It also could be Netflix’s next surprise streaming success like Baby Reindeer , only without the severe emotional trauma. (We think.)

Eric (May 30)

New York City in the ’70s and ’80s is often romanticized as being a wild, unruly place where graffiti adorned everything and rules were broken almost by the minute. It’s this time and place that Eric , a new six-part limited series starring Doctor Strange actor Benedict Cumberbatch, takes place in, and which serves as one of the chief reasons why you should watch it.

Cumberbatch stars as Vincent, a down-on-his-luck puppeteer who cares for his 9-year-old son, Edgar. When Edgar suddenly disappears, Vincent becomes obsessed with finding him, and turns to the only things that he thinks can help him: Eric, his 7-foot-tall puppet. Yes, it’s that kind of show, but this blend of realism (you really believe you’re in NYC before it was cleaned up in the ’90s) and absurdity (how many large puppets do you talk to on a daily basis?) is what makes Eric so interesting. The quality of the show has yet to be determined, but by the premise alone, Eric is sure to be memorable.

Georgia Recruiting Tour - Spring Practice Kicks Off For Biggest Prospects

  • Author: Brooks Austin

Every spring, I set out to see as many high school football prospects as this great state of Georgia provides as I possibly can. Here are my thoughts, notes, and experiences from the 2024 trail.

The State of Georgia is not short of football talent or resources. At the conclusion of the 2023 NFL season, there were 136 players from the state of Georgia. It's become the place to be not only during the fall when looking for football talent, but it's perhaps even more paramount to be out on the trail during the spring time for college programs looking to land Peachstate products.

Here in Georgia, spring practices involve ten practices and a scrimmage against either yourself or an opponent. For comparison, in California, they can't put the pads on until August. So, during this time every year, I set out to see as many high school football programs in this great state as I possibly can. These are the stories from the road. Enjoy.

Jonesboro An (8-4) football team in 6A a year ago, the Jonesboro football program is not short of talent. They are not short of players with major offers, particularly their junior defensive back group. DL, Jeremiah Ticket, DB, Cortez Redding, LB, Jeremiah Collier, DB, Jamar Owens, and DB Hontavious Wyman all hold division one offers. I left impressed with 2026 corner Jamar Owens and 2025 DL Jeremiah Ticket. Owens is a 6'1, 190-pound corner with tremendous length and athleticism, it should be a massive spring and summer for Ownes with regards to offers from some of the biggest programs like potentially Georgia and Ohio State where he's expected to camp soon. As for Ticket, Ticket is originally from Alaska and has only been playing football for about two seasons now, and boy is he athletic at his size. I was simply blown away by his movement skills at his size.

I’m keeping tabs on @JeremiahTicket7 6’3, 270 pounds relatively new to football. Big joker from Alaska originally. Think he’s just scratching the surface. pic.twitter.com/7RD4hLmB36 — Brooks Austin (@BrooksAustinBA) April 24, 2024

EastEnders couple set for proposal ‘confirmed’ as leading names revealed

Ian, Jean, Zack and Suki in front of a pink Queen Vic in EastEnders

It was recently announced that one EastEnders resident is set to get down on one knee to propose to their beloved in an upcoming episode that will see Eurovision hopeful Olly Alexander guest star – but who is set to pop the question?

Fans of the show have taken to social media to speculate over who may be set to take a trip down the aisle in the near future, and it’s safe to say that they are torn.

There are a number of couples on the Square at the moment who could be ready to take their relationship to the next level, which means the actual answer could be anyone’s guess.

But don’t worry, because we’re here to give it a go. So, without further ado, lets dive in and take a look at whose wedding could be on the horizon!

Sonia Fowler and Reiss Colwell

A sad-looking Sonia and Reiss hug in EastEnders

Sonia Fowler and Reiss Colwell (Natalie Cassidy and Jonny Freeman) recently revealed the exciting news that they’re expecting a baby – so could a wedding be the next thing on the cards?

Reiss is currently still married to wife Debbie, who has been in a coma since long before he met Sonia, but that hasn’t stopped him from living life with Sonia to the full so far.

Though it is clear he still cares about Debbie, could he be set to divorce her and get down on one knee in front of Sonia?

Suki Panesar and Eve Unwin

Suki and Eve kissing in EastEnders

Suki Panesar and Eve Unwin (Balvinder Sopal and Heather Peace) are head over heels in love with each other, and neither of them cares who knows it.

The couple have come a long way since the beginning of their relationship, but is it time for them to put a ring on it?

With the proposal episode set to feature LGBTQ+ advocate Olly , it would be pretty iconic if an LGBTQ+ character was to pop the question.

Ian and Cindy Beale

Ian comforting Cindy in EastEnders

While recent scenes have seen Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins) lock lips with ex-husband George Knight (Colin Salmon), Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) remains oblivious, and very much in love with her.

We have previously seen Cindy marry Ian despite her heart being elsewhere – and we all know how that ended – but could history be set to repeat itself?

Adam Woodyatt did recently reveal that Cindy was the love of Ian’s life , so is he prepared to risk it all all over again?

Whitney Dean and Zack Hudson

Zack wraps his arm round Whitney while they sit by Peach's tree

Whitney Dean and Zack Hudson (Shona McGarty and James Farrar) are another couple who are expecting a little bundle of joy, so could they be inspired to tie the knot before her arrival?

Both Whitney and Zack are hiding big secrets from each other at the moment, so could they be set to be exposed during some dramatic wedding scenes further down the line?

Patrick and Yolande Trueman

Patrick and Yolande in EastEnders in the Vic

Yolande Trueman (Angela Wynter) has been going through a tough time since being sexually assaulted by Pastor Clayton (Howard Saddler), and Patrick Trueman (Rudolph Walker) has been left concerned by her behaviour.

Unaware of what is really going on, could Patrick be set to pop the question to Yolande in the hopes of bringing them closer together? And could this prompt Yolande to confide in Patrick about what happened?

Jean Slater and Harvey Monroe

Jean and Harvey linking arms in EastEnders

Jean Slater and Harvey Monroe (Gillian Wright and Ross Boatman) are one of the strongest couples in Albert Square at the moment, though, to be honest, that doesn’t take much.

It’s about time the Slaters have some happiness, and a wedding for Jean could be exactly what they need.

EastEnders' Anna Knight to get devastating news in George story

Anna pays Eddie a visit in prison.

preview for EastEnders Soap Scoop! Bianca returns again

EastEnders ' Anna Knight is set to receive some devastating news in upcoming scenes as she pays Eddie a visit in prison.

As viewers may know, Anna’s grandmother Gloria recently passed away after suffering a heart attack while her husband Eddie stood trial for the murder of George's biological father .

In scenes airing next week on BBC One, Anna decides to visit Eddie in prison. However, given how fraught things are between Eddie and her father George, she keeps the visit to herself.

While speaking to Eddie, Anna is devastated to learn that Gloria's funeral has already taken place without the Knight family in attendance. She then worries about how she’ll break the news to George.

Before Gloria’s death, George’s life was thrown into disarray when he discovered that Gloria and Eddie had adopted him as a result of a practice known as child farming .

Previously discussing the storyline , George actor Colin Salmon said: "It's been beyond expectation to travel this journey and to see the response from the viewers and my friends and family, as well as people who have encountered farming and complex family situations, and the younger generation who have been excited about seeing the colourism debate being explored."

"As an actor, I just feel this storyline is some of my best work and it's a great honour to be able to lead the storyline with some great actors," he added.

"I can't stress how important the team have been, we all came away nourished by it. Bold and brave, that's public service broadcasting to me."

Elsewhere on the BBC soap, there's another father/son story brewing as Billy Mitchell's life will turned upside down next week when his estranged father Stevie ( played by Alan Ford ) turns up in Walford.

EastEnders airs on Mondays - Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast.

  • The Future of User Management | Summer ’24 Be Release Ready

Summer ’24 is almost here. Learn more about user management below and check out Be Release Ready to discover more resources to help you prepare for this release.

Welcome to a new era of user management! At Salesforce, we believe in the power of community-driven innovation. Your feedback as Trailblazers is invaluable—it’s the compass that guides our continuous improvement efforts.

At TrailblazerDX ’24, our session, The Future of User Management, showed the power of community collaboration, drawing insights from our Awesome Admins. Over the past year, your feedback on the admin user access refinement journey has highlighted the need for a less overwhelming Setup, simpler troubleshooting, and fewer clicks for straightforward tasks.

At TDX, we also made some exciting announcements on how we’re improving Setup, starting with user access, as these are the most-used areas in Setup.

Our plan for improving Setup is a three-pronged approach where we have a Setup framework, improved Setup experiences, and a copilot to assist you in everyday tasks. Summer ’24 is the first release of the new Setup platform, with user access being the first customer. For all of the details on our action plan and the new Setup platform, tune into the Future of User Management on Salesforce+.

The three-pronged approach to fixing Setup, starting with user access.

What you can expect to see in Summer ’24

We know that Setup, particularly user access, has a lot of complexity and clicks, and that you spend an inordinate amount of time troubleshooting. My goal and vision from a product standpoint is that you’re able to navigate user access in under five clicks. The features we are releasing in Summer ’24 start that process, so let’s dive into them.

1. Automate and migrate access with User Access Policies

In Summer ’24, User Access Policies are now generally available (GA)! If you haven’t used User Access Policies before, they simplify your user creation process. You can activate a user access policy so that when a user is created or updated and meets the criteria you set, which can be user attribute-based or user entitlement-based, you can automatically assign access. You can assign permission sets, permission set groups, permission set licenses, managed package licenses, public groups, and queues. In addition to being able to assign access automatically, you can also mass migrate access as you have both a grant action and a revoke action.

On the user access policy, you’ll notice a new section that shows access changes. The access change feature is a brand new concept that starts to build the connection between the user and the Setup audit trail. You can expect to see more from this feature in future releases.

A user access policy that is going to be automated.

You even get to control the order in which you want the policies to trigger via the Order field on a user access policy! You will have 200 active user access policies in your org, starting in Summer ’24.

For more details on enabling and using User Access Policies, see this Help article .

2. Gain a comprehensive view with User Access Summary

What does your user have access to? You would think this is a fairly simple question to answer, but as Awesome Admins, we know it’s not. We’re excited to announce the User Access Summary in Summer ’24. In ONE click you can see which user permissions (System and App) or custom permissions a user has access to, what access a user has on an object and fields, and which public groups and queues the user belongs to.

With this feature, you can swiftly get a comprehensive summary of a user’s permissions in under five clicks!

The user access summary for user Sam Oh.

3. Get all the details with Permission Set and Permission Set Group Summaries (GA)

Part of the journey to improving Setup is to make consistent experiences. You all loved the permission set and permission set group summary we released in Winter ’24. Your love of this feature is actually what sent me down the path of “let’s ‘summary’ all of the things.” What we did in Summer ’24 is move this to our new Setup component as well as add some additional features, such as custom permissions and the ability to see the permission set group summary from the groups the permission set is included in, and vice versa for the permission set group summary. This feature was previously in beta and is now GA!

The permission set summary for a permission set called Advanced Support Admin Access.

This feature will not only provide you details about the access each permission set or permission set group provides but also map out how these permission sets or permission set groups connect. We’ve even added the specific custom permissions that each permission set or permission set group is authorizing.

The permission set summary showing the new tab for custom permissions.

This update will make managing permissions much easier and clearer, helping you save time and understand access rights without the hassle.

4. See where a public group is used with the Public Group Access Summary

Determining where a public group is used has traditionally been a puzzle. In fact, it was so confusing you all created an idea for it . You might have often found yourself having to recall and examine each location where a public group could potentially be used, or alternatively, a developer might be tasked with intricate SOQL queries to uncover this information.

And for that reason, we’re happy to introduce the new Public Group Access Summary, which will dramatically simplify it all. This feature provides a detailed summary that reveals the access a public group holds, the sharing rules the public group is used in, the report and dashboard folders it grants access to, the other public groups this one is included in, and the list views by object that the public group grants access to.

We know this isn’t everywhere that a public group can be used, but they’re currently the most-used areas. We will make future enhancements to this feature and would love your feedback, so keep leaving comments on this idea!

The Public Group Access Summary.

Our hope is that these features save you time, help you understand user access, and generally relieve some of the frustration you have with user access and user management. We also hope all of these innovative features will show you our commitment to improving Setup, reducing clicks, and helping you do things faster.

Summer ’24 Resources

Each release brings tons of amazing new functionality and it can be a lot to digest. Throughout Summer ’24, we’ll publish blogs and videos to help you prepare to get the most out of this release! Lyrid meteor shower to peak tonight. Here's what to know

By Aliza Chasan

Updated on: April 22, 2024 / 7:26 AM EDT / CBS News

Look up, astronomy fans: The Lyrid meteor shower is set to peak overnight Sunday into Monday, according to NASA.

The moon will be in its waxing gibbous stage as the full moon nears, which will make it difficult to see meteors. Even in ideal conditions away from city lights, only a few meteors per hour are expected to be visible to the naked eye.

"For a dedicated observer, it may still be worth spotting members of one of the oldest known meteor showers – the Lyrids have been observed for 2,700 years," NASA wrote in a post .

When and where to see the Lyrid meteor shower

The best time to see the meteor shower is overnight Sunday into Monday. EarthSky recommends viewers go to country locations where the sky is as dark and clear as possible. Viewers should try to place themselves in the moon's shadow to watch.

"If you can block out the sight of the moon, yet still have some sky left for seeing meteors, you might see some of the brightest Lyrids blaze past in the bright moonlight," EarthSky reported. "Remember, even one bright meteor can make your night!"

The Lyrids are known for surges that can bring up to 100 meteors per hour, but viewers are unlikely to see that many this year because of the bright moon, EarthSky notes. Viewers may see 10 to 15 Lyrids per hour in a dark sky with no moon.

What are meteor showers?

Meteors — space rocks that enter Earth's atmosphere — streak through the sky every night. During meteor showers, which happen several times a year, many meteors hit Earth's atmosphere over a short period of time. As the meteors speed through Earth's atmosphere, they leave behind streaks of light caused by glowing, hot air.

While most meteors burn up as they fall, some survive the trip and reach Earth. Those are considered meteorites.

Look up — what else can you see in the sky this spring?

Astronomy fans can check out the Pink Moon this month as April's full moon rises. April's full moon will reach peak illumination at 7:49 p.m. EDT on Tuesday, but it will appear full from Monday morning through Thursday morning, according to NASA . The Old Farmer's Almanac details specific moonrise times for different ZIP codes across the United States.

The Eta Aquariids meteor shower is estimated to peak Saturday, May 4 through Sunday, May 5. NASA notes these meteors are known for their speed. There will not be much moonlight interference during the Eta Aquariids meteor shower.

May's full moon, the Flower Moon, reaches peak illumination on May 23.
