European Cruise Interior Design Industry to Unite in London
Registration opens for Cruise Ship Interiors Design Expo Europe, returning to ExCeL London 29 – 30 November 2023. Designers, suppliers, and decision-makers from cruise lines and shipyards will take to London to hear the industry’s latest trends and challenges, update their portfolios and samples, and grow their network at this specialised exhibition and conference.
Attendees can look forward to a display of high-quality innovations and expertise from the European cruise interior industry’s leading design firms, outfitters, and suppliers at CSIE. Buyers can also expand their supplier order book with the Speed Networking program. With two sessions running per day, CSIE will match industry suppliers with relevant buyers from cruise lines, design studios, and shipyards.
Notable industry players RODA, Cristallux, De Wave Group, and more will be joined by 60 CSIE newcomers including Gruppo Mastrotto, a dynamic fabric and tanning supplier whose clients span automotive, marine, and aviation industries. Also new to CSIE is Marino Projects, an established contractor within the European cruise market boasting over 450 completed ship finishing and outfitting projects across 21 countries.
CSIE will unite the cruise interiors community through a variety of networking opportunities, from the Opening Party to the Happy Hour crowning day one. Throughout the show, delegates can connect with peers over a British pint at the CSIE Pub, which will also be hosting the Pitch & Pint competition. Following a popular launch drawing large crowds last year, this high-energy event gave new to CSIE suppliers the chance to pitch one headline product or service to design studio and cruise line judges. Among these were George Scammell (Director, Interior Design, Princess Cruises), James McIntyre (Procurement Director, MSC Cruises), and Peter Joehnk (Founder and Partner, JOI Design).
Interactive sessions run by industry thought leaders will be also taking place at exhibitor stands throughout CSIE. These CPD accredited talks will delve into the industry’s most pressing topics and trends, from project management to appealing to the next generation of cruising, wrapped up by an exploration into how disruptive technologies will shake up the cruise design sector.
To commemorate the end of a successful year for the European cruise community, the CSI Awards will wrap up day two of Cruise Ship Interiors Design Expo Europe. These coveted awards will celebrate the industry’s biggest achievements over the last year.

The excitement and champagne bubbled as Toby Walters, CEO of the CSI Awards and CSI Design Expo Europe, took to the stage to open the ceremony and announce the first winners.
This year, 13 awards were up for grabs. The awards themselves were crafted by Spared by Volume Creative. The material of the trophies was created using waste, transforming unwanted items into a beautiful and unique new design. New to 2023, CSI introduced two awards within the Spaces category that reflect the industry’s growing passion for improving onboard crew experience and reducing industry emissions. The first of these, Best Crew Area was awarded to the crew area on board A-ROSA Cruises’ A-ROSA SENA, designed by JOI-Design. Tui Cruises and P-O-I Design took home the Most Sustainable Interior award for Grööne Bar on board Mein Schiff 3 . Princess Cruises won Best Casual Dining for O’Malley’s Irish Pub on board Enchanted Princess , while the Horizon Deluxe Stateroom on board Mystic Cruises’ World Traveller , designed by Oitoemponto, was crowned Best Stateroom.
Within the Products category, NIT Naval Interior Team won the Sustainability Award for its cutting-edge Carbon Footprint Calculation for Ship Interiors tool. This calculates the environmental impact of marine interiors, enabling NIT to identify and improve factors with the highest carbon footprint.
As the awards ceremony came to a close, Toby Walters made a special announcement. After four years of providing support, guidance, and leadership as head of the CSI Advisory Board George Scammell, ASID, IIDA, Director Interior Asset Management at Princess Cruises would be handing his title to My Nguyen, Director of Interior Design at Holland America Group. This was commemorated with the presentation of the CSI Advisory Board gavel.
