Position Overview

Set sail on a new career with Carnival, and help us bring the FUN to life aboard one of our fantastic vessels! We’re looking for dedicated individuals to join us as a Guest Services Associate! 

A career with our Guest Services department can be one of the most rewarding. If you enjoy assisting guest and meeting their every need then this is the path for you. From the moment guests board, we need vacation heroes who will help them with any questions or issues that may arise. Our Guest Services Team's enthusiasm and positive attitude mean they are the frontline ambassadors of fun.   

As a Carnival Guest Services Team Member, you will be the focal point of our guest’s experiences onboard. This is one of the most vital positions in the fleet and a big reason why Carnival remains number one!

Position Tasks

• To assist international and domestic guests with the everyday activities on board maintaining guest relation standards and ensuring maximum guest satisfaction.  
• Front desk and phone duty shifts as required ensuring that the highest standards of customer service are provided.  
• Complete duties assigned by the Guest Services Supervisor including, but not limited to Lost Luggage, Lost & Found, Access Services, and Executive Reports as per company guidelines.  
• Handle guest issues or concerns, record relevant details into the shipboard capturing database, and ensure timely resolution and guest follow-up.  
• Provide cash and guest account services such as accepting cash payments, cashing personal or traveler’s checks, or exchanging foreign currencies.  
• Follow established procedures to maintain, safeguard, balance, and reconcile assigned cash float.  
• Assist guests during the boarding and departure process, including establishing onboard credit, selling and printing Shore Excursion tickets, and closing guest accounts.  
• Maintain a service culture throughout the Guest Service team.  
• Conduct oneself professionally and courteously at all times with guests and shipboard employees.  
• Greet all guests with a friendly and sincere welcome, making sure to acknowledge past loyalty when appropriate.  
• Use a positive and clear speaking voice, taking the time to understand all requests in detail.  
• Respond to escalated guest concerns in a considerate, professional, and positive manner by showing empathy and listening actively.  
• Perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with environmental and safety policies.  
• Ensure that proper telephone etiquette is always used; answering calls within 3 rings using a positive tone and clear English pronunciation. In addition, using the guest's name at all times.  
• Employ proper timekeeping and follow the CCL work time recording standards (as per MLC - MARITIME LABOR CONVENTION).  
• Maintain current knowledge of all ship’s regular events and special functions by reviewing all available data to provide guests with accurate and up-to-date information to answer questions and handle any special requests.  
• Maintain current knowledge of voyage memos and relevant e-mail communication to provide prompt updates to inquiring guests.  
• Maintain service and hospitality standards to all guests by extending information as warranted and following up on requests as needed.  
• Familiarize yourself with shore excursions by attending tours and reading the brochures to provide guests with accurate information.  
• Stay current with new company procedures and apply them when necessary.  
• Proper handling and knowledge of operating systems.  
• Display a positive attitude towards Guests and Crew and maintain healthy interdepartmental relations, while ensuring communication channels are followed.  
• Assist guests with Customs & Immigration procedures.  
• Attend meetings, training activities, courses, and all other work-related activities, as required.  

Minimum Requirements:

• A minimum of 2 years of experience working in Guest Relations  or Two years of Front Desk experience, customer service experience, or in a similar environment required
• Must have fluency in English.
• Personify Carnival’s image of a fun and memorable vacation experience by providing friendly, prompt, attentive, courteous, and personal service in face paced environment.
• Possess excellent communication abilities – displaying fluency in both written and verbal skills. A secondary language is a great asset.
• Work scheduled hours at the front desk, and on the phones with the primary focus of extending information as warranted. Document all complaints and concerns from our Guests, and focus on a quick and efficient resolution.
• An ability to perform cash transactions, as well as guide our Guests on various payment options for their onboard accounts (cash, credit cards, debit cards, gift cards, and onboard credits).
• Execute various administration duties.
• Actively participate in all of the Ship Safety drills and training.
• Display a high level of Guest Centricity, with the natural ability to engage our guests in social activities.
• Positively contribute to the diverse and energetic team environment. 

Undergo assigned trainings to develop skills & knowledge for the future positions.

Report any equipment malfunction, difficulties & concerns to the supervisor on duty.

Follow additional duties, other than listed in the job description, assigned by management due to the operational needs/shortages/changes.

Ensure beverage stations are full at all times and cleaned daily.

Engage in light conversations with guests always greet them with a smile.

You should have at least 1-2 years of experience in a similar role.

Advanced level proficiency in English is required.

Customer service experience gained in a similar role is required.

You must pass a Seafarers Medical Fitness Examination.

You focus on continuous improvement and collaboration.

Ben Irwin joined Goodwin Recruiting in March 2014. Ben has a wide range of experience in the hospitality industry. Before joining Goodwin, his career included 10-plus years in Beverage Operations and 7 years in Beverage Sales Consulting.

Ben has an AS in Culinary Arts from Sullivan University and a BS in Criminal Justice from theUniversity of Louisville.

Vincent Frankowski

Regional Director of Recruiting

Vince Frankowski joined Goodwin in 2018. He attended Temple University for business management, but his true training occurred in the real world, on the job. Prior to joining Goodwin, Vince was a Director of Operations for an eight-location restaurant group in Atlanta, and the bulk of his experience came with his 14 years of owning six restaurants in the Philadelphia market, as well as five years as a managing partner with Bloomin' Brands, Bonefish Grill division. He loves the recruiting industry, and the successes of others bring him true happiness. It is an awesome feeling to tell someone that they got the job.

Rico Villavicencio

Area Developer & Senior Recruiting Partner

Rico joined Goodwin Recruiting in 2021 after 20 years in the Entertainment industry. He started in the music business as a Royalty Manager, then moved to Disney in 2006 as a Finance/Accounting analyst. In 2009, Rico moved to Technicolor Home Entertainment Services as an Account Finance Manager, where he managed the relationship between Disney and Technicolor as it relates to the physical media business of Disney. He was later on involved in Logistics, Supply Chain, and Operations as he got promoted to Account Director. Rico shifted gears into recruiting where he has found great success. He is relentless while having the ability to understand your needs and requirements, whether you are a client or candidate.

Miko joined Goodwin Recruiting in 2021. She has a Bachelor's degree from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and is also a Court of Masters Sommelier. Jessica began her career with the Four Seasons Hotel in Philadelphia before transitioning to the recruiting industry. She joined the Goodwin Recruiting team in 2006 and has since become our VP of Training & Partner Support as well as a Certified Diversity & Inclusion Recruiter. Gary joined Goodwin Recruiting in 2018, bringing with him 40 years of business operations experience. He entered the business world at age 14, as his family owned a leather goods company for 125 years. From manufacturing to hospitality, owning restaurants, a catamaran charter business, a construction business, and more, Gary is a wealth of knowledge in endless areas. He passes that knowledge along to our recruiting partners, clients, and candidates on a daily basis and has been an integral part of our growth and success.

Jenny has been with Goodwin Recruiting since 2008. She has a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from Bowling Green State University, majoring in Hospitality Management and minoring in Entrepreneurship. Her background is in boutique and upscale hotels. Here at Goodwin Recruiting, she has built extensive experience in sales, client relations, and marketing - supporting our team across the nation and working to build brand awareness through SEO, videos, blogs, and more.

Phil joined Goodwin Recruiting in 2018. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Rider University and has a background in recruiting and business development. He works alongside our Internal Recruiting team to grow our team of Recruiting Partners nationwide. Phil’s passion is in building relationships, and he enjoys helping candidates become recruiters themselves - to have the opportunity to work remotely, build their earnings, and create the work-life balance they’re looking for.

Allegra Highsmith

Allegra comes from a background in hospitality management and started with Goodwin Recruiting in 2013. She found quick success, moving from a recruiting partner to the Director of Team Development, further leadership roles, and now a VP. The amount of money you can make working as a bartender on a cruise ship varies greatly, depending on whether guests are expected to tip. But the average salary for bartenders is $29,380 annually.

Casino dealer

Working as a dealer at a cruise casino can be an exciting gig. These workers may oversee poker, blackjack, roulette, and more games.

Gambling service workers make $31,290 a year. However, as with tending bar, the actual wages for casino workers on a cruise can vary.

Many cruise ships have cafeterias and restaurants for when guests are in the mood for fine dining.

Cruise ship chefs may be involved in cooking and planning menus for guests and staff. Chefs or head cooks make $56,520 on average annually.

Many cruise ships also offer various fitness classes, including yoga, Zumba, spin, and more.

For qualified instructors, this can be a great way to stay healthy, make money, and travel the world all at the same time. The average fitness instructor makes $45,380 annually.

Hair/makeup artist

On cruise ships, hair and makeup artists may work in spas, providing services to guests looking to get pampered while on board, and may be needed to work with the ship’s performers.

The BLS groups barbers, hairstyles, and cosmetologists together and states an average of $33,400 annual salary for these workers.

Some cruise ships also hire nurses to provide care to passengers and cruise staff.

The amount of money nurses make on average usually depends on the type of nurse. Registered nurses (RNs) make $81,220 annually. Licensed practical nurses (LPNs) make $54,620 a year.

Massage therapist

Many cruise passengers opt to take advantage of spa services. Massage therapists may work in a spa or travel to guests’ rooms with their equipment to provide massages.

Licensed massage therapists make just under $49,860 annually on average.

Pay for these workers can vary, depending on the cruise line’s tipping policy. The average salary for a server in the U.S. is $29,120 annually.

Sales associate

Part of the beauty of the typical cruise ship is that it’s kind of like a floating mall, filled with gift shops and retail stores galore. Ships often need many sales associates to staff these stores.

Again, depending on the cruise line and the job, the pay for these gigs may vary. However, BLS data puts the average salary for a retail sales worker at $30,750 annually.

That’s not huge money, but perhaps it's enough for students to get ahead financially during breaks between school years.

Bottom line

Working as a cruise crew member is certainly not for everyone — lodging for staff can be cramped, days can be long, and you might be away from home for weeks at a time.
