Ratings and Reviews

Wouldn’t be without it.

Very easy to use. I remember when you used the same login name and password repetedly and I thoght “all is well”. In this version you find that dashlane will let you know to change repeted passwords or login names. They tell you if your password has been involved in a breach and take you to the website to change it right away. Now the smartest thing to do is to have separate login id’s and passwords. There is no possible way for me to remember them, so Dashlane to the rescue. It can automatically log me in or I can look up my creditentials by going to the store/company/institution name in my search and it shows me both my login and password. I like to add things in notes about other things besides my password, such as the date my subscription will auto-renew so I can cancel on-time or when my special offer for the sattelite service expires so I don’t have a surprise bill, if the customer service representative gave me any additional information I have it recorded there. I can also share my passwords with my husband, so if I’m not around he doesn’t have to panic to pay bills. I guess my only issue is I used to be able to have 3years for the price one year is now and they don’t offer a family deal if your family is two people, where it would be more economic if you had a larger family. I feel I should have been grandfathered in since I was with them at the start and have been loyal to their product.

You need this even if you don’t know it

I can not tell you how much I love Dashlane, I’ve never had a issue, never had a complaint and never want to go without. I have so many accounts it’s impossible for me to keep a secure (not reused) password for them all, until I started using Dashlane. All these years later... I’m still with them 100%. Nothing makes me more happy then having crazy password that even the NSA couldn’t crack. The security of knowing that if any one account gets hacked or compromised, they will not effect any of my other accounts. Looking back I can’t image a life without a password service. Yes it cost money but the stress relief of not worrying and not remembering, makes it so worth it. You literally only need to remember 1 password, the one to sign into Dashlane. You get to have your cake and eat it too. *Update* It has been a while since I first reviewed this app and I know most see a update as they “finally failed” or they fixed serious issues. Honestly, I still use Dashlane daily, I still tell everyone about Dashlane, I’m a very happy customer and I don’t plan to leave anytime soon. All of that being said, I liked the PC application but it has been phased out, it’s in the browser only now. It hasn’t really changed anything, nothing is particularly harder or easier to do but I miss the app because I didn’t have to open the browser.

Dashlane is Password Manager available — currently

I check periodically, and I continue to find Dashlane is the number one or number two password manager in different comparisons. But, when I consider the functions and features, the kind of rapid customer support I receive, and the cost—I use the Premium Family plan, giving me up to six licensed users—there is simply no comparison. Given the number of major hacks annually, and how often those user credentials end up for sale on the Dark Web, the days of keeping your passwords manageable—easily managed, all the same across web sites, have them easy to remember, and/or writing them on sticky notes or a notebook “hidden” near your computer—should be long behind you. Dashlane makes it so easy to keep you passwords unique for every site, and meeting all complexity requirements. They can be sync’d across all devices, logged in using biometrics, and randomly generated using Dashlane. In many websites, they can be automatically entered by the app/extension, without little or no interaction on your part. Especially on the iPhones using FaceID, I don’t have to do anything but look at my phone—amazing!! And sharing them with friends and family couldn’t be easier. I can recommend them highly enough. Best product available for several years now—nothing would make be changed.

Software Reviews and Criticism

Not free, difficult to use

It shoulld say free trial, but it says FREE, so that's a bit deceptive, and the version you download isn't the free version, the free one is much more limited and you have to set up DL all over again in 30 days. Setting up was a mess. I counted 38 screens to navigate just to get an account and log-in. Plus it kept repeating the same screen when I tried to log in "You're all set" and the only option is "Got It!" then...nothing. No control panel, no welcome tutorial, nothing. Looking for it, where is it? Playing hide and seek. AND, 4 customer service support staff could or would not explain how does it work? Instead a bot kept sending messages that it wanted to close the support ticket, mark it resolved several times. I got it working eventually, there are two versions you need, one for desktop and one for the web, and you have to log in both places before it works on ONE browser only. AND It keeps asking if I want it to save the password that it just used to log me in to websites. I know it's free and I get what I paid for, but I don't enjoy the hassle of loading the extension, setting all the security preferences in sys pref and the perplexing "You're all set!" screen when you click on the Icon in the apps folder instead of opening the app.

Crashes Safari [UPDATED]

This is my second update (see original below). The original problem I had with this browser extension has been fixed. It almost always recognizes a site and offers to fill in passwords/user info. The new problem is that it's causing Sarari to crash. I will especially notice it overnight. I'll wake up the computer and I will have a report that Sarari "needs to be reopened due to a problem" and when I look a the report it names the Dashlane extension. Is there a problem with how the extension handles the browser/computer going into a sleep state? This is big issue! I've used Dashlane for years and loved it. But the new integration with Safari just doesn't work. It will correctly autofill about 10% of the time. I have to sign out of the extension and then sign in to make it work. Even then it will eventually stop autofilling correctly. VERY frustrating. The only good news is that the new button makes it easy to get the password copied so that you can use it to manually log into the site. Please FIX.

Great Product, VPN not working on Windows!

I LOVE Dashlane. I love how seamlessly it stores passwords across my devices. I love using the password generator if I need to change a password. I love how quickly i can change a password, have that saved, and never have to think about the new password again. I love using the secure notes function. Overall Dashlane has made my life SO MUCH simpler! HOWEVER, IT works BEST on iOS devices. It's functionality is decreased on windows desktops. And it has extremely limted options on Windows Safari. VPN isn't even an option currently on Windows OS w/ Safari.

You Need This!

In the past I was guilty of using two or three passwords across all websites. Then I tried keeping a spreadsheet when I expanded the number of passwords I used. It was just too challenging. With Dashlane I find it so easy to create random, secure, and different passwords for every website for which I have an account. I also find it easy to change passwords as necessary. With Dashlane, my typical password is 18 characters long. Yep, eighteen characters long! For the most important sites, like financial, they are 26 characters long! With the large number of threats, which increase every day, you need Dashlane! BTW, the nickname I used for this review was generated by Dashland.

Dashlane Migration Hub for Businesses

Dashlane’s Web-First Experience

In January,  we announced  that Dashlane’s default desktop experience was going to be our browser extension and embedded web app. This move towards the web and away from our legacy desktop apps has allowed us to provide a  superior autofill experience , made setup for new customers and new employees a breeze, and unlocked faster development of new and improved features.

The web-first Dashlane experience is already available to all customers. On January 10, 2022, we will sunset the legacy desktop apps and automatically log users out. From then on, users can access Dashlane on their computers via the browser extension and web app. This blog post is meant to centralize everything business account administrators need to stay informed on upcoming changes.

After that January announcement, we lost no time building key features from the desktop app into the web-first experience, along with some brand-new features. A few key capabilities are listed below, but for a full recap of our year to date, you can check out our  Q1  and  Q2  product reviews.

  • In May, we made our new single sign-on integration available for all existing customers, made UX improvements to our autofill and password generation experiences, and released the Sharing Center on the web app.
  • In June, we released our Machine Learning Engine, which doubles the speed of our autofill and makes autofill and password capture nearly 10% more accurate.
  • In July, we released Account Recovery within the web app and .csv export of all Personal Space items (passwords, IDs, payments, personal information, and Secure Notes).
  • In August, we released an  all-new native experience for Safari  users, launched a brand new Resource Library for administrators, and now upon request can have your company’s new employees onboard to Dashlane on the web-first experience!

Through the remainder of 2021, we are working on :

  • An all-new, work-from-anywhere VPN : Our new VPN experience is significantly faster, more reliable, and makes for a fantastic employee perk that also enhances your company’s security.
  • Adjusting 2FA settings from the web app : Currently, users can only adjust their 2FA settings from the legacy desktop app (these policies do carry over to logins from the web-first experience).
  • Password change history : Currently, users can view their last 20 generated passwords directly in the extension popup by going to the  Generator  tab. However, we want to give customers access to the full history of their generated passwords. This update will be released in the web app before the end of the year.

If you’re curious about a specific feature or policy, you can get more details in our  Help Center .

To make the rest of the migration a breeze, we put together a short checklist for Dashlane administrators to follow to guide their teams to the web-first experience.

If you can't find the email and want to implement this change now, visit our Help Center to learn more about our support options for Business plan users .

While we are confident the web-first experience is superior to the legacy desktop apps, we can also appreciate that many people have set habits around how they use Dashlane. To make the transition smoother, we have created a number of new resources!

  • We offer live trainings for your colleagues to learn the product (these trainings are in English only)
  • For employees who want to skim something quickly, we recommend our  Quick Start Guide
  • For access to always up-to-date documentation, we recommend linking to our Help Center from your company’s internal website/wiki:  https://support.dashlane.com/hc/en-us/articles/4403164856082-Getting-started-with-your-company-s-Dashlane-plan
  • Sometimes, you just want to access a password without opening your browser. You can follow the instructions in this video to learn how to create a  shortcut to the web app  to pin it to your desktop, dock, or task bar.

As part of the migration, some of your colleagues will have to change the way they are using Dashlane. Communication is key, so while we are providing instructions within the app, it’s also important to give your team a heads up about the changes. Below is a templated message to send via chat or email.

We recommend sending this in October, when you may want to start getting your employees who already use Dashlane familiar with the web-first experience.

Hi all, there are a few upcoming changes to how our team will be using Dashlane.

Over the next few months, Dashlane is moving away from its desktop application and offering its full product through its browser extension and web app experience. If you are already using the browser extension, you’re basically already all the way there! Instead of using the desktop application to view the contents of your vault, you can do so by clicking on the Dashlane extension (the teal D browser extension) and selecting the option to  Open the web app .

If you don’t use Dashlane’s extension, I can’t recommend it enough! Dashlane not only helps keep our company secure with strong passwords, but it’ll save you time every day by storing and autofilling passwords for you. No more password resets or asking a coworker what a shared password is!

My goal is to have everyone comfortable on the web-first experience, so the desktop app going away isn’t a big deal for our team. I have a bunch of resources on how to use Dashlane for anyone interested. In the meantime, check out the links below, and let me know if you have any questions!

–   https://www.dashlane.com/blog/quick-start-guide

– If you want a more immersive experience, I suggest signing up for one of Dashlane’s live trainings

We’ll continue to be in touch about upcoming changes and timelines. As a reminder, we will begin the desktop app sunset on January 10, 2022.

The short answer is yes. The web-first experience is as secure as our desktop apps, and thanks to the review process of extension stores such as Chrome, Edge, and Firefox, you could argue there's even more attention paid to our app's security than ever before.

If you want to read more about the security of Dashlane, check out our CTO Fred's articles on web extension security ( part 1  from January, part 2 from August).

Even though Dashlane's new experience is web-first, it doesn't mean you can't access your vault if the internet goes out or you're on the move. Watch this video to learn how:

  • Check if you have the extension installed. If you’re on Chrome, Edge, or Brave, click on the puzzle piece icon at the top-right corner of your browser to see if Dashlane’s extension has been installed. If you’re on Firefox, go to the hamburger menu (three horizontal lines) and then click  Add-Ons and Themes .
  • If you have the extension installed, “pin” it to your browser bar so that it’s always visible. You can do this by clicking the small pushpin icon next to the name of the extension.
  • If you do not have the extension installed, go to dashlane.com/download and follow the instructions.

Transitioning to our web-only app gives our customers more reliable performance and simplifies the overall Dashlane experience without sacrificing feature richness. You’ll have one fewer app cluttering your desktop and be able to access what you need from Dashlane in your browser without hopping back and forth to the app. Think of it like moving your pots and pans to the cabinet right next to the stove—it just makes cooking easier!

Additionally, the transition has allowed us to move faster, and build more that ensure you and your team stay secure. Check out our Q1 and Q2 product recaps to learn about what we're recently released!

Though we are hoping to build these soon, there are a few features that we will not have in the web-first experience prior to the migration. You can read more about them in the  Help Center .

  • Emergency Contact
  • Secure Notes templates

Deleting the legacy desktop apps is simple. We have instructions available on our  Help Center .
